Speaker 1 (00:11):
For a man who does a lot of flying, Larry
Olmstead is not keen on heights, and that's a sensible
thing to be cautious about. And he's seen all kinds
of activities up in the friendly skies and the airwaves.
But he's been on the chair lift more than any
of us have ever been. He's even skied out of

(00:31):
a helicopter, if you can believe that. And it is time,
with the holidays here to take a look at the
hill known as Hemlock at Boyne Mountain and the Highlands.
We've already had some snow, so it's time to strap
on the skis or the snowboard. And he's going to
give us a little skinny on what's the latest in
boy Country. We're heard on WMKT. He's on our radio

(00:54):
stage right now. How about it, sir? Are you ready
to switch from golf to skiing?

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Absolutely?

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
We've got some snow here in Vermont where I live,
and I know up in Maine and Montana where Boyne
also has some resorts. But up there in northern Michigan
there's a lot going on this winter. So if you
ski up there, you want to know about this. And
there's gonna be a lot of detail here, so you
want to check their websites for Boyne Mountain and Highlands
to stay on top of these dates. But at Boyne
Mountain they have taken an old gondola car and repurposed

(01:23):
it into a DJ booth to liven things up, so
there's going to be some rock and going on on
the slopes there. They're also going to keep the lifts
spinning along with the record spinning until midnight a couple
of times a year. They're going to do some Saturday
nights called Mountain Till Midnight, and you can ski right
until the end, literally the end of the day. In
January and February, they're doing discounts on the water park

(01:48):
there at Avalanche Bay for anybody staying over night, substantial
like forty five percent off, So that's a nice app
raay ski activity. And they've got a new kids program
if you've got kids between age two and four, The
small fry camps are full day ways to get them
out of your hair and let him learn how to ski.
Over at the Highlands, they've got a lot of holiday

(02:10):
programming coming up, a lot of one off things, so
again check the site they've got an artist in market.
There's going to be a brunch with Santa for more
adult people. They're going to have a little bourbon festival
up there. There's a ski scavenger hunt and New Year's Eve,
a big fireworks event, some Friday night concerts series with

(02:32):
live bands from across Michigan. That's pretty much all winter
from mid December to the end of February at the
Zoo bar there.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Who knew you could mix bourbon music with a DJ
and skiing. Larry Olmsted diz because he's an expert
