Speaker 1 (00:26):
Maybe there'll be people outside the White House today singing
and pounding on tambourines as President Zelenski and other world
leaders get together with the President of the United States
Donald Trump after he went to Alaska on Friday and
met with Vladimir Putin. It's Michael Patrick Shields with you.
I don't think Margaret Brennan is going to be one
of them from CBS because she was totally ticked off

(00:50):
that there was a red carpet for Vladimir Putin and
she had Marco Rubio on the Sunday Chat show. Secretary
of State used to be the Senator from Florida, and
she was small him saying, you know, these world leaders
have to come and meet because Donald Trump is gonna
bully Zolensky into making a deal for peace. And here's
a little of what that exchange sounded like.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
You know, there is concern from the Europeans that President
Zelensky is going to be bullied into signing something away.
That's why you have these European leaders coming as back
up tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Can you that's not true, But that's not why why
that's not true. They're not coming here tomorrow to keep
Zelensky from being bullied. They're they're coming here.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
To market television cameras where President Zelensky. Oh no, I know,
And I was just up into one with Vladimir Putin
where red carpet rules rolled.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
We've had more meetings we've had, We've had We've had
one meeting with Putin and like a dozen meetings with Lensky.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Saulnews is the former chair of the Michigan Republican Party.
Saulsnews dot com covers the Alaska Summit and he's on
our AT and T line right now. How about that exchange, saw.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Well, I think it's typical of those who just try
to attack President Trump for regardless of what he does.
And so, you know, I mean, obviously, you know, the
Secretary Rubio pointed out that Trump had invited these leaders
to participate, even going into the Alaska summit. He said,
ultimately this is going to have to be a decision
that is made by the Europeans and Zolensky. So I

(02:22):
think that you know, those who, you know, those who
want Trump to fail at every and any you know,
turn of anything here are constantly attacking the process. And
I think President Trump has set the stage for at
least a conversation to see if there's any openness to
coming up with some kind of deal. And that's I
think what we're going to find out here today and tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
She was so completely put off that there was a
red carpet in Alaska. That was what she wanted to
focus on. Now, let's not forget that there was a
red carpet under the feet of Ladimir Putin. But overhead
there was the military might of America with that bombing,
the bomber that flew overhead. What did you think of
all that stage craft?

Speaker 4 (03:05):
Well, I think that was awesome. I mean, you had
the B two bomber come over the overhead showing the
you know, America's strength. He had Putin literally walked between
American fighters to the meeting to again make a clear
showing of America's strength. So, you know, America has said
in the past, if it wants to get engaged, it
will make a difference in this process, and they would.

(03:28):
I mean, if the United States were to live up
to the Budapest Agreement which Russia and the United States signed,
which guaranteed the Ukraine its current borders, there would be
an end to the war because Putin would be forced
to abide by an agreement that he already signed that basically,
you know, forces them out of Ukraine. So you know,
this is the problem. I mean, President Putin has signed

(03:50):
and agreed to peace in Testa and then turned around.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
And attacked it.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
They agreed to peace in Ukraine, turned around and attacked it.
I mean, his credibility is very low. But President Trump
is bending over backwards to give him a chance to
come up with a peace deal. And he I think
Putin thinks he's smarter than Trump and keeps trying to
manipulate this process. And President Trump, wanting to come up
with peace, is giving him every chance he can that

(04:16):
at a certain stage that manipulation is going to end.
And I think, you know, I think Ukraine should stand
strong and I think you can't give up to a bully.
I mean, this is we have to remember Putin and
the Russians are the ones who attack Ukraine. They're the
ones who are kidnapping children in Ukraine. They're the ones
who continue to bombing civilian targets, including this morning in Ukraine.

(04:39):
I mean, the Russians are the bad guy in this situation.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
You're of Ukrainian descent.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Right now, actually Lithuanian.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
You know, back to the stagecraft for a second here.
Some of the people, but you know these when the
bomber went overhead, they said the nonchalance of Donald Trump
as well made it a super power flex, that it
was so gangster that Trump didn't even look up. It
was like, yeah, that's right, that's up there. But then
some people say that Putin is former KGB, so he

(05:11):
knows a psyop when he sees one.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Well, he may know one, but he needs the credibility
of a meeting with Trump. I mean, look, the complaint
that a lot of people had was that he gave him,
you know, his own pr victory. But the reality is,
you know, we were sending a message. The United States
was letting Russia know that, you know, we have a
power to make a difference, and he was trying to

(05:36):
give him room to play to Putin's ego, to play
the Putin's need for credibility, to let Putin make the
case to his allies in Russia that he is still respected,
that Russia is respected even if they pulled out of Ukraine.
And I think, you know, you've got to you've got
to create a situation that has the least amount of
negative impact to different leaders if you want those leaders

(05:58):
to agree with you. And that's I think what Trump
is trying to do is give Putin a chance to say, look,
I didn't have to give up and call it failure,
but we did have to negotiate and somehow save face.
And that's really what they're trying to do is create
a situation where Putin can save some face while losing
in Ukraine.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
You know what I heard that bothered me this weekend
too on one of the chat shows was I don't
remember who it was, somebody saying that what will get
Putin's attention are breadlines in Russia and that we need
severe sanctions. And I thought, you know what, you son
of a bitch? I mean, do you realize what it's
like to stand in a breadline and to hurt the

(06:42):
general population for a political outcome? To me, never really
spent a successful operation? Am I wrong?

Speaker 4 (06:52):
No, You're not wrong. I mean, look, obviously you have
to create domestic support for this war. But I think
the fact that the Russians have lost over a million
men in this war is affecting the Russian population in
almost every area except for Moscow in Saint Petersburg. I mean,
Putin has been very careful not to not to you know,

(07:14):
try to keep the pressure away from the two biggest
cities that have the greatest amount of influence on him
and have the greatest impact on Russia as a whole.
And so he's been recruiting, you know, soldiers from around
the rest of Russia. But you know, what Putin needs
to know is that they can't hold this land they
have taken. And so it's not it's not a function
of food lines in Russia. It's a function of Russian

(07:36):
soldiers continued continuing to have the losses and the military
losses that show that they're just not going to win.
I mean, in the last year, I mean Putin has
gained like one percent of land. I mean, they have
been fought back in almost every area they've lost. They've
lost significant amounts of land that they have taken since
the initial invasion. So I mean Putin is not winning.

(07:58):
He's just willing to be a terri And you came
out reward a terrorist.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
You would think that amount of death would be enough
for some, you know, but what recourse really do the
Russian people have. They are along for the ride like
the rest of us. We'll continue with saula News after
this short break. You can read his opinions. He's got
a very thorough publication this weekend too, Saulsnews dot com,
