The views expressed in the following programare those of the participants and do not
necessarily reflect the views of Saga ninesixty am or its management. Well,
(00:21):
hello, and welcome to the MindsetMentor. I'm your host, Hanya Kolar.
It's so great to be with youand have you joining in today.
I hope you're having an absolutely outstandingday. You know, today I wanted
to talk about something that is justfun. I think that the world has
you seen such a huge shift inexperiences and negative, negative news that can
(00:47):
be a little bit overwhelming. SoI thought, well, what can I
talk about today that's just going touplift our spirits and just you know,
spread some joy and fun into theworld. And I thought, why not
talk about chocolate. I love chocolate. I don't know about you, but
I certainly love chocolate. And Ihave been doing a little bit of research
(01:11):
into the benefits of chocolate. Didyou know that chocolate can boost your mood?
And according to the John Hopskins Medicine, they say that chocolate increases your
heart health. So well, firstof all, let me just be clear
that we're talking about dark chocolate. So it was a little bit of a
(01:33):
difference between the dark chocolate that's more, you know, pure versus the milk
chocolate, which is my favorite thatis loaded with a little bit more you
know, cream and sugar and calories, all that delicious goodness. But when
it comes to dark chocolate, theysay that it's antioxidant levels are quite high.
(01:53):
They've been known and shown to lowerblood pressure, reduces the risk of
clouding, and also to increase bloodcirculation to the heart and really interesting and
you know, all of those benefitsof course, lower the risk of stroke,
coronary heart disease, and and youknow, death from a heart disease.
(02:15):
So imagine just corporating a little bitof chocolate. Of course, you
know, I'm not a medical professional, so I'm not giving any medical advice
or whatsoever. I'm just telling yousome of the research that that that I've
seen when it comes to dark chocolateand the health benefits. And sometimes we
just want to incorporate those little thingsin life that make us feel good.
(02:39):
I know that I've done this inmy life where I deprive myself of things
that are good because I feel like, you know, sometimes you just have
to stay on this path and dothe right thing and not indulge in some
of the things that you love. But I've also now discovered that it's so
important to incorporate joy into your life. Why not have that chocolate cake or
(03:05):
you know a little bite of chocolateor whatever it is that you know makes
you feel good and provides that momentof joy. I find that so many
of us put a cap on ourhappiness because we prohibit certain things in our
life, and not just with withyou know, foods or you know,
(03:25):
you know, beverages or whatever whateverit is. It could actually just be
activities, you know. We weput a cap on our activities, and
we put a cap on our joylevel because sometimes we just don't feel that
we are worthy enough to have joyand to feel our absolute best, do
(03:46):
you know what I mean? Likeway back when, I had very low
regard for myself, very low selfesteem, and I believe that I wasn't
worthy to have a life that feltamazing I for some reason, And this
(04:06):
is just you know, a beliefsystem that I had growing up was that
I had to suffer just a littlebit more than everybody else. And it's
so interesting because even as I asI speak those words right now, and
I'm sharing with you how I felt. It sounds kind of ridiculous, doesn't
it right that, but this isreally truly what I believed. And why
(04:30):
should I or why would anybody haveto suffer more than anybody else? It
doesn't make any sense, But thisis the the the thing that happens with
our beliefs. They really dictate ourlives and could put a very different color
onto our reality. So I wouldjust want to, you know, have
(04:55):
this show today to just say howwere they? You you are? I
want you to know to your core, to your to your absolute core truth
that you are worthy of having alife that feels absolutely amazing and you are
(05:15):
worth it. In life, westart to sometimes take on other people's belief
systems, the belief that you know, we're not good enough, we don't
deserve other people you know, deservehappiness or whatever. That that belief system
might be the long, outdated, limiting beliefs that we hold as absolute truths.
(05:39):
So today I want you to reallystart to look at some of the
belief systems that you have. Iwant to help you to to reprogram some
of those limiting beliefs, and Iyou know, my goal is really to
help everybody. I want the worldto shed those limiting beliefs because I know
(06:01):
what it feels like. I knowwhat it feels like to have those doubts,
those self doubts, and to feelyou know, unworthy, and it
doesn't feel good. I can tellyou that it really does not feel good.
I know you know what I'm talkingabout. We've all had those days
where you just feel, you know, the pressure and overwhelm and that you
(06:23):
know things are not moving in thedirection that you want. But life is
not about suffering greatly. It's notabout having to sacrifice your wants and your
needs for others. You know, the world is limitless, the possibilities are
endless. What you can do,what you can achieve, and who you
(06:47):
are are absolutely magnificent in your limitlessYou can absolutely cultivate a life that you
love. So let's get back tochocolate. How does chocolate make you feel
worthy? Well, listen, here'sthe thing is that you know, I
(07:08):
just want you to allow yourself tohave the experience of joy, to incorporate
whatever that feels like. But whateverthat is for you that makes you feel
joy, whether that's spending time youknow with loved ones, you know doing
something with your kids, doing somethingwith your partner, you know, having
fun, or just having time together, making a little bit of time because
(07:32):
often we shut out the external worldor we'll say we just don't have time
to do this. You would maybelove to spend more time with loved ones,
but you get stuck in a rutand you get stuck in that that
daily grind of working so hard, you know, doing things for everybody,
and you forget about yourself. Well, today is really about that focus back
(07:58):
to you and back to yourself andknowing how absolutely magnificent you truly are.
And it's good to have those remindersbecause we can forget, we can forget.
And it's interesting because jever, noticehow how kind we can be to
other people, how you know,we encourage them and we say amazing things.
(08:22):
But then when we look a littlebit deeper and to our own being,
then we can see sometimes or here, if we listen to our mind
chatter, we can be just awfulto ourselves and tearing ourselves apart. And
you know, criticizing ourselves, thatnegative critic, the inner critic that is
(08:46):
incessantly obnoxious, allowed and annoying. That really highlights all the negativity. You
know, as humans, we dohave a pension to look at the negatives
in life, right, It's justone of those things. But if we
can start to now recognize those patternsthat we have, that's where the shift
(09:11):
happens. We can shift and wecan maneuver into you know, a different
area, and so we can startto cultivate a supportive environment for ourselves.
That supportive inner environment. That iskey. It's absolutely key to living your
best life. How you treat yourself. You know, there is no relationship
(09:37):
that is more significant than the relationshipthat you have with yourself. You are
magnificent, and you should treat yourselfas that magnificent being that you are.
Treat yourself like you would treat yourbest friend and somebody that you will love.
Because if you think about it,and I know, for me,
(10:00):
my goodness, my negative chatter wasabsolutely awful. I was terrible to myself.
And there is no way I wouldever ever ever say these words or
thoughts even just even have a thoughtas negative. You know, I would
never have those thoughts about anyone else, So why would I be having them
(10:20):
about myself? You see, thisis the deep conditioning that we have throughout
our lifetime. And we again sometimeshold these as absolute truths, but there
is no truth to that. It'sa falsehood that we believe is true.
We often pick up our patterns andour belief systems from our environment, our
(10:43):
you know, our our parents,uh, you know, family growing up,
and they pick it up from theirs. You know, there's this transgenerational
epigenetic inheritance. It's called where we'reactually picking up not only you know,
are the thoughts and patterns of ourancestors, but we can actually hold on
(11:07):
and pick up on their trauma. So it's been proven that you know,
that the trauma can actually go backabout three generations. And we live out
the trauma of somebody else's life.We live out the negativity of someone else's
life. We live out the negativebeliefs and the and the the lack of
(11:31):
of you know, support and confidenceand esteem for ourselves because of somebody else's
reality. So today I just wantto awaken your reality. I want you
to express that magnificent being that youare because you are worthy and maybe nobody
(11:52):
has told you that. And andsometimes here's the thing, it may not
even necessarily be that nobody has youknow, told you how worthy you are.
Sometimes the block is in our listeningand how we perceive things, right,
because our perception creates our reality. And if you believe that you're not
(12:13):
worthy, and someone tells you thatyou're worthy, guess what, Sometimes you
just don't even hear it. You'regonna hear the words differently. You're going
to interpret the words differently. Doyou know what I'm talking about? Have
you ever had those conversations with peopleand all of a sudden you got a
different meaning out of what was actuallybeing said. Maybe eventually you kind of
(12:39):
heard it correctly after. I knowthat's happened to me where I've someone has
said something and I already have apreconceived notion of what that, you know,
is going to mean, and soI didn't really hear it for what
it was because now my belief systemsare impacting those words. So it's kind
(13:01):
of interesting when you can really startto disassociate from negative belief systems, from
the old patterns that keep us stuckand that keep us, you know,
playing small. We're not meant toplay small. You are not small.
You are an absolute extraordinary human.I mean, just think about it.
(13:24):
I mean, what it takes tobe human, the trillions of cells that
we have in our body, theuniqueness to each and every one of us.
We are remarkable beings and we shouldbe living or remarkable life. I
want you to jump up and justreach out and claim the extraordinary life that
(13:46):
is right there for you, becauseyou absolutely deserve it. And you know,
it's so funny because you know,I started talking about chocolate and I
went into you know, this kindof a different pathway, but it's just
really indicative of how we live ourlives, whether we are able to allow
(14:09):
ourselves the experience of joy. Soreally that chocolate when I'm when when I'm
talking about chocolate today, chocolate encompassesan entire belief system. Right, It's
that joy, that joyfulness, thebliss that we can all experience in life.
(14:30):
But oftentimes, again we sort ofyou know, just limit limit ourselves.
And so what can you do today? I want you to think about
this, What in this moment willbring you joy? Is it smiling you
know, you know at a stranger, is it you know, buying that
that a stranger, or a cupof coffee in the in the drive through,
(14:54):
uh, brightening someone's day? Buthow are you going to brighten your
own day? What is look liketo you and what does that feel like?
Oftentimes it's so foreign to us toknow what that joy feels like because
we've suppressed that, We've put thatcap on happiness, and sometimes we don't
even know what that looks like.So I want you to think about it
(15:18):
a little bit. Consider what canyou do in this moment to bring joy
to yourself, to your day,to to you know, brighten the light,
to illuminate your soul, and toto really just radiate your truth.
I find that so many people getstuck with trying to make others happy,
(15:45):
and in the process of doing that, they suppress their own wants and their
own needs and their own desires. So I love when I when I hear
people, and when I see peopleand they share their story about pursuing their
dreams. Right, it could havebeen a passion from you know, decades
(16:07):
ago, and then they have nowfinally taken that step and pursued a path
that feels amazing to them. Itcan be scary. It's scary sometimes to
delve into a new career or youknow, to delve into a new hobby,
to finally do what it is thatyou want, and sometimes you want
(16:30):
it so bad that it feels sobig and scary and and it's so it
feels unreachable. But everything is reachable. It's there for you. It is
there for you when you start tobelieve it's possible. And that belief system
of I'm not worthy, I'm notenough, you know, I don't deserve
(16:51):
That is archaic thinking. That doesnot belong to you. It is not
true. It is not reality becausethey're reality is is that you are an
absolute remarkable being living in an extraordinaryworld. And I really want you to
thrive in life, not to survive, you know, And I think that
(17:15):
in the past little while, certainlya lot of people are literally just surviving
the day to day, the grind, getting through, paying the bills,
you know, all the responsibilities, the hardships that people have experienced of late,
and you know, it's a challenge. I mean, it feels,
(17:37):
you know, when you're in thatspace, it feels so daunting and you
feel like you're never going to getout of that experience. And I just
want you to remember, if youdo feel like that, life is about
cycles, so nothing lasts forever.I promise you things will shift, and
you want to just remain hopeful becausethat having hopelessness, feeling hopeless, that
(18:06):
is so stressful, and that's wherepeople feel like they want to give up.
But I never want you to giveup, because there is always hope.
I promise you there's always hope. And if you're feeling like you are
overwhelmed, please reach out to afamily, to friends, to love ones,
(18:29):
to support systems, to the experts. There is help right there for
you. You know. Just don'tgo through this alone, because you're never
alone. Even though sometimes, especiallyin those dark moments, you can feel
so isolated and alone, you arenever alone, you know. Please reach
out to someone and reach out tome. If you feel like you don't
(18:52):
have someone to talk to, reachout to me, send me a message,
send me an email. You canreach me at Tanya at Tanya Kolar
dot com. And I'm always therefor you, you know. For me,
I love doing the show The Mindsetmentor Here on Saga nineteen sixty because
(19:15):
I get to impact people because Iknow what it feels like to feel hopeless,
to feel unlovable, to feel thatI, you know, I'm unworthy,
and to feel like I don't deserve. I used to feel like that,
and it took me, you know, decades to reprogram my mindset to
really shift and to really understand thatI am worthy and that I do deserve,
(19:38):
and you are worthy, and youdo deserve. You deserve the best
in life. You deserve to havethe things that bring you joy. And
I want you to just start topay attention to the the you know,
the language patterning. So listen tothe words that you say about yourself.
(20:00):
Uh, stop doing that self deprecatingstuff that we do. You know sometimes
in a conversation we tear ourselves down. And remember that you want to treat
yourself like someone that you love. You want to treat yourself like you are
your best friend. What would yousay to encourage your best friend? What
(20:22):
would you do to be supportive toyour best friend? How would you show
your best friend that you love themand that they're important and that they are
worthy. These are the things thatI want you to start thinking about when
you when you start to feel thatyou're not worthy, when you start to
feel that you are, you know, tearing yourself down. I want you
(20:47):
to just pay attention to that andshift shift that that language, shift the
thought pattern that you have, becausethat is where the change happens. Is
first of all, when we havethe aware the awareness of some of the
things that we do, the thingsthat we say, and there's always a
reason why we do things right, and sometimes the reason is is that we
(21:10):
don't want to outshine other people orwe don't want to take center stage because
we don't feel good enough right. And so when we start to recognize these
patterns, that is the greatest opportunityfor change, is when we really start
to recognize the patterns that we have. And you know, oftentimes the awareness
(21:36):
can come from a big shake upin your world and in your life,
and certainly for me that's the youknow, that was a huge wake up
call for me in my life whenI experienced a traumatic event which I wrote
about in my book called Breaking theStupid Mold. And for me it was
such a huge monumental shift. Butit was interesting that it was like all
(22:00):
of a sudden, the switch wenton and I now started to see the
negative patterns like I had tons ofthem. There were so many. So
if I can reprogram that and toshift my mindset and to now understand and
know how worthy I am if Ican do it, and am telling you
(22:22):
if I can do it, youcan do it. I'm not special,
there's no there is no magic toyou know what I'm doing. This is
something that anyone can do. Youknow when you start to pay attention,
when you start to have that awareness, and by the way, you don't
really need to have this big monumentalshift. It can come at any time,
(22:47):
and it comes at the time whereyou make the decision that you want
change, that you are going towelcome in joy, that you are now
going to really know and understand yourvalue and remember that you are absolutely magnificent.
(23:10):
And we're going to take a breakhere on Saga nineteen sixty. You're
listening to the Minds That Mentor.I'm your host, Tanya Kolar, and
I can't wait for this conversation tocontinue when we come back after this break.
Stay tuned, no radio, noproblem, stream us live on Saga
(23:41):
nine sixty AM dot C A.Well, hello, and welcome back to
the Mindset Mentor. I'm Tanya Colar, helping you cultivate a life you love.
(24:07):
So, if you've been tuning inand listening to the Mindset Mentor throughout
the years, you know that Ialways talk about how your mindset is like
a muscle that needs to be strengthenedand conditioned, and this is your mindset
workout. You know, I wantto help you work out your mindset so
that you can truly cultivate a lifethat you love, a life that feels
(24:30):
worthy of you, a life thatyou feel good living. And so it's
so important that we start to kindof look at some of our you know,
language patterning, our thoughts, ourbelief systems. And because it's our
our thoughts, our patterns, andour beliefs that are going to create our
(24:52):
reality, and we certainly want areality that feels amazing. We don't want
to limit ourselves and put all ofthis pressure on ourselves or to suppress our
needs and our wants. So we'regoing to continue the conversation. Before we
took a break, we were talkingabout you know, joy, bringing joy
(25:14):
and worthiness into into your life. And I started the conversation talking about chocolate.
So what does chocolate and joy haveto do with anything? And how
do they sort of you know, coincide with each other. Well, you
know, I'll tell you this.So chocolate is representative in this case.
(25:37):
It's almost like a metaphor, right, a metaphor for bliss, for joy,
allowing in these expansive moments in lifethat feel amazing, that feel good.
You know, you have a biteof chocolate and it feels delicious.
You're really in the moment and experiencingit and fully being present in the moment.
(26:00):
And in life, we can sometimesbe stuck in the past or we're
so focused on the future that weare missing those those solid moments of just
pure joy. That's it. It'ssimple. It's simple. Get focused in
the present moment. If you feellike indulging in a piece of chocolate or
(26:23):
whatever it is that you love,I just like, go for it.
You know, we can put acap on our happiness. We think that
we can't have this, we can'tdo this because X, Y Z,
right, fill in the blanks whateverthat looks like to you. But sometimes
all you need and all you wantto do in that moment is just to
have some joy, that pure bliss. And that's why I'm kind of like
(26:47):
equating it to chocolate, because Ithink we all know the experience of having
a piece of chocolate that you love, how deconant and how delicious and how
indulgent that feels in this moment, and it can feel really satisfied. But
then sometimes the negative patterns come inand then we beat ourselves up. Why
did I do that? Why didI indulge? You know, I'm so
(27:11):
blank blank blank, you know whatever, whatever it is you're patterning, what
are the things for me? Apattern that I had that was very strong
and deeply ingrained in me was thebelief that I was a stupid kid.
It's it's something that I held ontoliterally for decades from the age of four,
and I believe that I was justa stupid kid. And so anytime
(27:34):
that I did something that you know, I didn't agree with or that I
wish that I didn't do, Iwould always go back to that, Oh,
I'm just so stupid. I'm justa stupid kid. And I'm talking
even like as an adult. Iwould say these things to myself. And
then I started to realize that thoseare are negative patterns that were are so
(27:56):
old, deeply, deeply ingrained patternsthat were not true. And I really
held onto that for so long untilI was able to finally break those patterns
and to recognize that I am aworthy being just like everybody else just like
you right now listening. You areso worthy. You're worthy of the life
that you have. If you wantto indulge in a little piece of chocolate,
(28:18):
you know, I say, gofor it. And when I say
chocolate again, can you think ofthat as a metaphor, you know,
whatever that chocolate represents to you inyour life, that joy, the bliss,
So that chocolate is that blissful experience. You know. I probably have
chocolate on my mind too, becauseI have an event coming up in November.
It's the Chocolate Ball. I'm sograteful to be a part of it.
(28:42):
I actually my dear friend Joey Ce, who has you know, been
in the music industry for literally, you know, sixty years, an incredible
career. He has been putting onthe Chocolate Ball for quite some time,
and it's it's always great to seewhat he can come up with and what
(29:03):
he can create. You know,he's he's a master at creating an experience
for people, that joyful experience forpeople. You know, amazing chocolate tears
that come together for the Chocolate Ball. But also it's it's just about the
collective environment that he creates. Andthis year he's used his creative imagination to
(29:29):
create an incredible experience in Niagara. It's gonna be in Niagara, and it's
a Bridgerton theme. Who watches Bridgerton? I know a lot of people love
that show odd Netflix. You knowit's that you know, uh, sort
of a Romantic regency period era inin England. It's a very sort of
(29:56):
close knit siblings. Uh. Andof course the powerful Bridgetin family all about
finding love, that joy, thatbliss, that experience. So I think
that's kind of perfect that Joey hascreated. Uh. You know this this
event happening in Niagara, the ChocolateBall. You know, we're going to
(30:18):
be dressed up in you know, beautiful outfits and costumes, and I will
be part of the Queen's Court.Liberty Silver will be the wonderful Queen,
and Patty Janetta Baker also will bepart of the Queen's Court. You are
invited. Tickets are available. Itis also a fundraiser, so you know,
(30:42):
check it out if you can,or just go out get yourself some
chocolate today and and you know, experience it with us in that regard.
Or here's the thing again, justremember that whatever that chocolate represents to you
try to incorporate, right, someof that into your day, right,
(31:03):
some of that joyful expression. WhileI was trying to think of the word
to say, there the joyful expressionin your day. I kind of love
the sound of that joyful expression, because again, we can be absolute inhibitors
of our own joy. So Isay, just go for it. So
to tell you a little bit moreabout the chocolate ball, there's actually a
(31:26):
whole festival happening. I believe there'sthree different locations. So let me just
have a look at this actually veryquickly if I pop on to the website,
which is Toronto Chocolate Festival dot com. Yeah, let's have a look
(31:47):
here. I want to give youall of the right information and I'd love
to see you there. Be sogreat to have you join in and you
know, be part of this blissfulexperience. Arians. Okay, here it
is the eighteenth annual Toronto Chocolate Festival. They are back and these are events
(32:13):
from Toronto to Niagara on the Lake. So the one event that I was
telling you about, the Bridgerton theme, that one is actually on November fourth.
That one is in Niagara on theLake, which is such a beautiful,
quaint town. I always love goingto Niagara on the Lake. I
love walking down the main street thereand all the cute little shops and you
(32:37):
pop in and just enjoy that time. So the Toronto Chocolate Festival has been
dedicated to celebrating all things chocolate related. And it's been four years since the
Chocolate Festival has been back. Ofcourse, COVID kind of through a little
bit of wrench a wrench into theplans for that, but it's back and
(33:00):
we're so excited. So this yearthey're going to feature, of course,
a wide variety of chocolate related activities. There's products and experiences. I always
think that that's like so incredible. It's the experiences in life that we remember
the most, right. So yougo to a wedding, and you know,
(33:21):
you remember the experience, right,I don't really remember like the face
ser chicken or beef or salmon orwhat have you. It's more it's always
the experience that we remember, right. So the Toronto Chocolate Festival is absolutely,
uh, you know, incredible increating those experiences for us, a
delightful, decadent experience for all thechocolate lovers out there, providing an opportunity
(33:44):
to indulge to enjoy yourself, youknow, some favorite treats and you get
to try some new flavors of chocolate. It's incredible what the chocolate tears can
make. Some of these chocolates arelike literally works of arts. They're so
decadent. Uh, there's a there'san art and there is a science when
(34:04):
it comes to chocolate making. Socome out and enjoy that experience. So
the Toronto Chocolate Festival, You've gotthe Chocolate Ball Affairs magazine, the Hot
Chocolate Festival Toronto on Demand magazine andget more information there on that. And
a portion of the proceeds from uh, you know, the various Toronto Chocolate
(34:24):
events are donated to Prostate and BreastCancer Initiative Programs, which supports the Guilda's
Club Greater Toronto, Canadian Breast CancerFoundation, the Prostate Foundation of Canada,
Credit Valley Hospital Foundation and the PrincessMargaret Hospital Foundation. These are really wonderful
(34:46):
charities and really near and dear tomy heart as well. You know,
I recently went through breast cancer andwas treated at Credit Valley Hospital and they
were just incredible in terms of theirtre treatment and so many valuable programs to
really help people get through, youknow, a time that could be very,
(35:07):
very challenging. And that's why Ithink we should all just enjoy a
little bit of chocolate, or actuallymaybe a whole lot of chocolate. But
again, you know, there's someincredible events coming up. The Chocolate Ball
is really going to be a funBridgerton style gala. Again, it's been
(35:28):
four years in the making, andso it's taking today's music with a little
bit of a mash shop with musicand fashion and dances of the Regency era
of course, which the Bridgerton Showis all about. So we're you know,
gonna feature that and so interesting thatit's going to be at Niagara on
(35:49):
the Lake, so the site ofthe War of eighteen twelve, so there's
a lot of incredible history. Thisis creating that wonderful experience at the old
Courthouse in Niagara on the Lake forall the chocolate lovers out there to come
together. There's gonna be a horseand buggy to take your right to the
front door. You can just imaginethat distinctive aroma of decadent chocolate emanating from
(36:15):
every direction. It's like a chocolateheaven. Once you walk through the doors
of the old courthouse. It's agorgeous historic building. It's located right on
the main street of town, inthe heart of wine country and just a
few miles from Niagara Falls, right, so this would be Niagara on the
Lake, and your taste buds willbe salivating and get teased and tempted by
(36:39):
their signature chocoltera, including the allnew sixteen foot shark cootery Board or chalk
cootery board. It's all about chocolate, right the chocootery board, because it's
to give sweet and savoring offerings presentedand catered some of Southern Ontario's absolute top
