We start minute 106 with Davidson checking on Pericles and ends with Limbo pulling a Yoda and stealing some shit.

The “Planet of the Apes” is kicked off in only the way Tim Burton can kick off a franchise, by adding Dirk Diggler to the world of apes!

(00:00):
On today's Man of the Apes,Richard will never hear this tease because he
never listens to the podcast Drinking Helloand Welcome to Many of the Apes,

(00:49):
the daily podcast where we break downevery minute of the play of the ape
movies, one minute at a time. Across from me is my dear friend
Sean. We can do this becausewe're doing it together, because we look
over at the guy with the flowingred hair and we realize he's never once
listened to a single thing that wedo. How many episodes? Okay,
so Sean, I did thirty withoutyou before you joined. So you have

(01:12):
done perhaps many six hundred and somethingepisodes of this podcast. You've let me
get this right. We ever listenedto one? Well, well, let's
follow up with let Sean then askedme after that, I said, have
you ever ever listened to a podcast? Any poser was not all the way

(01:32):
through? I think you know,I think it curiosity. You know,
there was like a CrossFit something ornerds something where maybe I would listen like
thirty or forty seconds of it andthen didn't care that. You have to
understand, I am I'm dizzy,I am at this very boy or coaching
somewhere between eight and twelve hours aday, and I'm not in a place

(01:55):
where podcasts can be listened to.I'm at the store where music is being
played for customers. I'm at thegym where I'm actually doing. Wait saying,
you're not playing our podcast over yourspeakers at the work so people here,
do you have the QR code likeup in the store so people can
find the minuet of the apes? And this is this is not a call
me up, It's not a callBut I don't. I don't play podcasts
in the store. We play musicin the store's when people will be happy

(02:17):
shopping music. But I don't.I don't do that. The gym,
uh my live three to four minutesfrom everywhere that I go, so it's
not something that i'd put on inthe car. And when I'm at home,
I probably have a little bit oftime on Sunday when I'm actually at
my desk where I could probably dosomething with a podcast, but I don't.
I don't Monday through Saturday. I'malways moving to be fair, as

(02:38):
you were going through that thought.First, I'm going to slap him around
this because I can go and sayI do my regular job. I'm in.
How many bands am I am?I do this podcast with you,
guys, I just told you.In fact, I think you probably heard
the teas at the first this.I'm contemplating putting a teas up that my
friend and I are starting a newpodcast called Jeff and Todd make a movie.
We're working together with the script thatwe've worked on, and we're putting

(03:00):
things together and we want to kindof tell that story of how you do
that and whatnot. Right, SoI've got that one too. And I
sit there and I think, Okay, Richard, I'm busy too. But
then I started thinking, I purposelythe only time I listen to podcast is
when I go for my I goon a two and a half mile walk
every day, so roughly about thirtyminutes and I listened to a podcast.

(03:20):
Now you flip over to our otherfriend over here, who was like,
hey, have you watched this?If you've done that, the man consumes
more, And a lot of peoplelook at me and think, I consume
a lot of shit like that thatguy, And I think you would agree
with me. Yeah, I've gothe has a non stop suck in of
everything pop culture. I've got twentyhours and twenty five minutes of podcast to

(03:42):
listen to you. But I listenedto it at three times a week and
I can't do that. I've triedit, and that just drives me borderline
crazy. My husband works at home. My husband also takes walks. My
husband also, like my husband, will occasionally do dishes between stuff. And
so what he does is he hassomething almost always on and playing when he's
at his desk, when he's goingfor his walk, when he's doing some
dishes or some laundry, who puthis headphones on and I'll listen to a

(04:05):
podcast, He'll listen to musical list, all that kind of stuff. But
for me, just having that quietmoment, I don't have those moments,
and that's the key, a quietmoment where it's one just you and only
you, that you could do that. I'm always at the story, I'm
always in front of people. Wanthim at the gym, I'm always in
front of people. I get upat four, I feed the dogs.
I'm immediately out the door by fiveor sorry, at four or forty five.

(04:25):
Right, it's just I'm always going. And that's not excuse, but
that's just it's your Josie. Yeah, and I think that it is,
you know a little bit that alot of people will ask about the podcast,
and what I tell them all thetime is what it is to me
is three friends getting together and talking. And it's not anything more than but
what's funny? As a friend didto me, Hey, I mean,

(04:46):
I don't want to call it.He's like, I was on a podcast
and I listened to it, andI'm not trying to go oh, and
I'm not saying our podcast is beautifullyproduced or that our camaraderie is just impeccable.
Damn, we're better than it was. Like listen, I was like,
oh, that's hurting me. It'shurting me. It's hurting me.
Speaking of which, why do wedo a podcast about? Yea, we
want to talk about apes. We'reonly five minutes in. Do we not

(05:08):
want to go on a little bitmore? Well, that means we're just
gonna talk about It depends about whathappens. It depends about what happens with
this minute. And also down Isent my mouse flying over there, so
it's minute one of six. WhileI work on the mouse, Sean,
tell us what's going on? Allright, we're gonna start minute one or
six with Davidson checking on pair clesand into limbo, pulling a yoda and
stealing to a right. Here itcomes a minute one of six. While

(05:29):
I fixed the mouse playing at theapes. Okay, came home, It's

(05:50):
safe, come out now. Whatit's over all, right, is just
getting ready to make my move.We will leave the graves unmarked. No

(06:15):
one who comes here will be ableto tell apes from humans. They will
be born together as it should befrom now on. As a miniument of
six, we have an oberon's worthof apes and humans too, displaced pods
worth of humans and apes. Somany while humans and apes and he minus

(06:38):
two girls and a pot has arrivedas a battle pause, all right,
So visually we get Leo getting intothe cell with Pericles. Pericles down there
a little knocked up and injured, but he picks him up. Oh,
the buddies are back together as theystep out of the thing, which,
by the way, how many timesdid they have to shoot that where Lego
probably bashed his head and take theget used. Leo steps out with Pericles

(06:58):
in his arms, and then helooks over his shoulder and tell someone they
can come out and there is Limbo, who is suddenly in those cages.
We cut outside to the Oberon andeveryone's together. Ari's laying on the ground
in the weird sand and just pushesuh sand over the face of her crawl
of her buddy, and then weget hr talking about the humans and apes

(07:24):
will be very together. Everybody kneels. Limbo has gone over to the pod
and takes something from it and putsit in his pocket. We see Leo
coming up behind Ari carrying Pericles, and that is the end visually. So

(07:44):
I think I think the first monkeyin the cage we get to talk about
is the Limbo moment. Oh mygod, dude. So there's really not
much here with no Leo. That'sthe reasons being okay, yeah, because
we didn't know if Pericles is deador not. So I'm glad Pericles is
a lot. Yes, yes,so it gets Heracles alive. But then
there are two things to this.It is it is Leo knowing that Limbo's

(08:07):
in that cage. Why he's neverseen anything, and we've never seen anything
about Limbo even being in the comicrelief. Yeah, but it was supposed
to become a relief. But thisthe thing that, the thing that the
way the moment is so quiet, and the way the moment is done,
and the fact that this is probablythe first time we've seen Leo unclenched this
entire movie. True, this isthe first moment he showed any type of

(08:31):
humanity or anything to Pericles or anybody. He just seems relieved, He seems
happy. The actor himself even seemscasual. So when he leans over,
it's safe, it says it's safeto limbo and I was about to make
a move. It feels like itwas that moment when you're watching the bloopers
at the end of the film anda whole cast just starts cracking up.

(08:52):
Because it was an ad libbed moment. It doesn't feel like it was meant
to be in the script. Itreally felt like it was that well was
it in the script? Yeah, okay, the end credits. Basically when
they have that blooper moment, right, it didn't feel it didn't feel natural.
It also feels I think at thismoment, were the previous moments constructed
correctly. If we had seen youcan't see him flee the battlefield somehow,

(09:15):
well, if we'd seen Atar, like I like I asked to see,
you know, espousing some of hisreligious beliefs, so we actually understood the
religion and not just bow your head, but I understood it. If we
then saw the Senate, we sawthese things, this would be a very
heavy moment that should be just allowed, to my opinion, linger without humor.

(09:35):
I don't need the limbo humor moment. I think it's actually out of
place. It's like, oh wait, now we're gonna be yuck monkeys again.
It's just it's silly and it doesn'twork. No, it doesn't work.
Particularly you're right, because we're comingoff. If we just have we
now have fade huddling in a corner. We have a victory moment, if

(09:56):
you will. But it's really it'sabout it's about Pericles being fine and and
that should be a tender moment thatcarries us. I don't need the humor
behind it. Well, and thenwe jump outside. We get we get
the kind of the the uh,we shall have the apes and the humans
buried together. They'll be unmarked graves. That was kind of a jump.
That was a weird up to thisfunny moment to be going outside. Yeah,

(10:18):
I mean the whole First of all, she barely covers Krawl's face with
sam, which you know, astrong breeze is just going to blow that
stuff off. Again, that's whyyou bury people deep and not just a
shallow grave. And then we're notgonna be able to tell people apart.
Apes have different body structure than humans, have different shaped craniums, Their arms
are longer, their legs are shorter. We absolutely know who is a human

(10:39):
and who is an ape. Andif they buried him deeper, maybe not,
but it is. It's a weirdlittle moment, and I'm assuming this
is a forbidden area, and soI'm now the area isn't forbidden because people
are going to be able to comeout there and not tell human. For
me, well, I also findit weird that they've already buried them.
And that's when we proclaim this shouldbe that somebody's digging and starting it,

(11:01):
and you know, I don't know. It just is a very weird proclamation
that again, hr is jumping alleight places. Arr to be fucking freaking
out because he killed his mentor,he's betrayed his friend, his entire religious
belief has been changed. Um hembe ari the one that says in that

(11:22):
in that situation, he's freaking out. Ari could say to him, don't
mark you know, don't mark youone we were together. He should be
reaching for the bottle at this point. I mean he should be. Maybe
they'll shocked, and that's why Aricould be his buddy at this point talking.
Maybe they form an alliance here.Oh, Richard looked shocked. He's
picking the other thought. His eyesare crossed. For for a big blockbuster

(11:48):
action adventure sci fi film, wasthat the end was that it fade firing
a gun off and flipping off andgoing into the corner and then him picking
up pericles and we're walking out inthe movie's done? Is this? Is
it done? We still because thisis really a week ending. We didn't
defeat an army we have, wereally didn't even defeat a villain and everything's

(12:11):
just like fine now okay, sorry, I'm just really thinking about this.
I'm used to I'm used to likea big battle or a big something,
someone solution to kind of get usto this moment, and there's just there.
It's just Peter there a theory ina movie like when it's over,
you need to get out as fastas you can you know Rocky, he
wins a fight, he calls forAdrian, they hug. That's the end
of the movie because the fight iswon you. But then you have the
off the the other version where youhave the last Hobbit or Lord of the

(12:37):
Rings movie where they defeat Sawn thering has been melted. Then you have
a half hour of everybody going backhome. So I mean it could have
ended right when they Hey, everybodywon movies over this one. We have
a battle, but then everybody's gotto linger around for another seven minutes,
bullshitting with each other, chilling.I just I got her caught up on

(12:58):
Ted Lasso less Night, and Ifinally got an Apple Plus account because tmobile
gave it to me for good.Have you watched it Lesson? I'm saving
that Jay didn't have to watch it. Very sweet, very beautifully written,
but the end of season two shenever watched the final two. It does
the idea and I won't tell youwhat, but it allows for a little
jumps of time. But each onefeel like a little vignette that I need

(13:20):
to complete it. This is oneof these things to this point where this
just feels this should be If anything, this should this should be a passing
comment as they walk off in someplace where there's the horizon and they come
together. But to stop down anddo this, it just feels like,
well the problem is I think,Well, I mean, you are going
to compare it to the first movie. So in the first movie, you
know it ends with a big twist, so you're thinking to yourself, well,

(13:43):
what's supposed to be the big twistswith this? Well, it's not
Earth because he's not he's not onEarth, so it's uh, it's not
it's the future. But apes,I mean it just so I was just
it didn't even occur to me.He has nowhere to gel just now,
well we're talk talking about this movielike wait, it's done. Yeah,
that was it. What else dowe have to do? We've discovered everything

(14:05):
we possibly discover. He came,he doesn't have a ship to go to
you because his ship has crashed. The next thing is to find out I
guess whether he stays or whether heleaves, and if he leaves, where
does he go? I mean that'sand also we don't know anything that's really
changed this movie. What has changedthat side of Atar now is confused about
religion, that we've never again,we don't know his religion, we don't

(14:26):
know the constraints of this world. The first film, we knew they hunted
humans. Humans were stupid, Theywere stupid. They did science experiments on
him. And then maybe Taylor hasexposed some of that. But then and
what he finds out he was theproblem all along? What the fuck is
Leo found out? He has notfound a single thing about himself. Even
if even if you well, evenif you found out that the humans or

(14:50):
the humans from the ship and theapes are the apes from the ship,
the apes back in Ape City, even if they hear that, what is
that going to change for them? They still aren't gonna like the humans or
they're gonna love the humans. Theirattitudes are not going to change. It's
because they found out that they camefrom outer space, I mean at hearted,
magically become king, I mean whatwe mean? Yeah, they dies

(15:11):
who's in charge. They have togo back and deal with all You have
to go back and deal with peoplethat have had this long standing disgust and
hate of humans. And it's notgoing to change overnight just because a human
told us that they that we camefrom them. And maybe that's what's missing.
Maybe that speech is missing. Maybethat's speech where thinking that saying that
speech that Leo or Atar have togetherto the people that are assembled there.
That maybe that was the conclusion thatI needed. And maybe maybe it's because

(15:35):
I don't see Leo ever being thehero of this, and I don't think
he wants to be the hero.Maybe he looks Atar in their new form
friendship and says to him, youknow those things and actually gets a better
explanation, and he's like, howdo I how do we let the people
know? He's like, they're yourpeople, you let them know? And
then that would that would would beyes, the ascension, you know,
and here he is and he's theleader of it and they believe in him
and he has a new faith intheir shared humanity and aptom whatever. No,

(15:58):
you're right, it would it wouldneed something like that moment. I'm
sorry, I can't believe it.Just credibly, this didn't resolve itself.
It's just kind of ended. It'sdone. What happens to Faye, Yeah,
I mean while she just stuck backin the in the control room,
they get leave him there forever andwe know that the twist is coming and
I will say that at thirty twoseconds they do at least set up that
there's something here that there's still agun in a way in the shot.

(16:22):
In thirty or two seconds. Yeah, and then we get Limbo again coming
out and stealing from the that Iwas like, Okay, if I if
I were going through this movie, the first thing that cuts the limbo outside
of the at the very first Yeah, he's not needed after those first moments.
He didn't do anything that monkey heneeds. He's no, he's irrelevant

(16:45):
to anything after the He could havestayed in the city. And you do
that in movies where you have anactor who just shows up for two or
three moments and it's a name.Yeah, it maybe a little more than
a cameo, like a little smallfeature you would have had. There was
no reason for him to be chasingthem down out in the jungle. Uh
No, he could. You havehim at the beginning where he captures,

(17:06):
You have him at the party, and then you have him that little scene
of him doing his shower upside down, and then maybe they run through his
room and scare him, and thenthat's the end of limbo because you don't
see them. Lisa Marie and theother senator anymore. They were only in
the beginning of the movie, Soyou don't see the senator anymore. M.

(17:26):
David Warner anymore. They were justin the beginning of the movie.
You don't have to have limbo throughthe whole movie and you want to say
something. I was also kind ofjust confused with it. Atar and Ari
and everybody else just suddenly outside inthe way she was laying on the ground.
It almost looked like she's battle damage. We needed them all to kind
of emerge from the oberon victorious agreedto the assembled audience and something happened.

(17:49):
They're not just magically be out. That would have been a great shot if
they all came out of this youknow, Mecca like area, and they
came out with a new message, and they came there and stood for them
and it's and think of that shot. You could say something if they came
out and hear are apes and humansmingling together waiting to hear the truth that
has been learned inside the open seeingthem all walks, how powerful that would

(18:11):
be for them to walk out withAtar, Yeah, and Hr and Leo
are there and they're you know, clearly together together. They've found something that
puts holding hands and I haven't together, something that's put the apes and humans
together. Hr could put his handon on Leo's back, something, just
to show that there's no unity amongthe tribes of apes and humans. I'm

(18:33):
brought in mind as I watched this, the old screenplay thing where you you
know it's an onion that you havethat you slowly peel back the layers until
you get to that core. Itfeels like they would peel back layers and
then put them back up, becausethere is at this point. I also
don't really I know Leo is mymain character because they've cast him and we've
followed him, but he's not doneanything to make me follow him at this

(18:57):
point, and that's why I feellost. I don't know who I'm supposed
to be excited about. I don'tfeel sorrow is our pushes the sand over
her Dude's face. They've done toomuch. And again, if we've gotten
rid of Limbo, it's one lessthing we've gotten rid of the kid Estella
don't need her. No, she'sirrelevant at this point too, and I
think that's one of the reasons thatpoor actress probably gets beat to shit over

(19:18):
This movie is the role she's given, not the performance. Her performance is
fine when she's on camera. Yeah, but it's just this film doesn't make
sense because they've not gone linear. They could have. They really could have
removed so much of this other castand made focus made a better story.
I look at Star Wars. Itis Luke's story, but you also piel
Away, Owen and Brew you pilllAway these things. Until you get to
the end, you're still adding layersin. But it is about him.

(19:42):
This movie's don't know what the fuckit's about. We talked more about this
minute than I was expecting. Well, look at that. We are so
good at podcasting. You know what, you would know that if you listen
to original see what I did.I just all right. I think that's
it for today. We will beback tomorrow with another minute that I'm sure
that we will not understand why thereare how it works. But until then,
everyone have a great day. Byebye, everybody.
