We start minute 107 with Davidson giving Pericles to Ari and ends with Ari saying one day they’ll tell a story.

The “Planet of the Apes” is kicked off in only the way Tim Burton can kick off a franchise, by adding Dirk Diggler to the world of apes!

(00:00):
On today's Minute of the Apes bleepbloop, my ship is doing something I
didn't tell it to do, drinkingHello and welcome to Minute of the Apes,

(00:49):
the daily podcast where we break downevery minute of the plan of the
Ape movies, one minute at atime. I'm Todd Sean's breaking into his
grogu. I could not get thatword in my head. Tomaguchi and Richard
is just standing there as ever,in vescent as always. How are we
today? All right? We are? We excited about this? Are we

(01:11):
here? We are? We're oneminute closer to the end. You know,
I apologized a lot when we wouldnot No. I it's funny because
the the other films when we didthem, I was apologizing because it felt
like we were being harsh on them. That we enjoyed them, but we
were harsh because it was almost Ithink our admonishment was of the studio for
cutting budgets and all that. You'vegot this thing that's working, you want

(01:34):
to make more of it. Whatthey forged with they created was so cool,
what they made with this thing.I wonder those studio executives are still
in the business because somebody should havesaid you need to go away to stop.
So minute one oh seven. Iknow Sean's taking out the instructions for
the in between. Okay, Sean, please please tell us what's happening with

(01:57):
minute one or seven. We're gonnastart a minute one of seven with David's
giving Pericles to Airy and end withaverything or ariy are saying one day they'll
tell a story, all right, riy Ari minute of the apes, planning
of the apes, minute one orseven, take care of him. Okay,

(02:20):
yeah, I can promise you Iwould do in a cage. Let's

(02:40):
found the cordiners of the story inthe propt here. You know, it
would mean a great deal to everyoneif if he would stay, mean a
great deal to me. I Believenknow have to take a chance and get

(03:01):
me back. You know, oneday they'll tell a story. As a
minute one to seven, we havean obrion's worth of apes and humans,
two displays pods worth of humans andapes, so many while humans and apes
city minus two gorillas and a pieceamong humans and apes. Visually we get

(03:22):
the wide shot are he's looking downat her buried compadre as Leo walks up
with Pericles, hands it off toher. They'd go over the shoulder a
little bit. They're standing on whatlooks like a rock quarry. Limbo comes
in and doesn't really touch anything,as best I can tell, and everything
goes beat boots so alarm. Leoruns over to the pod. The kid

(03:43):
looking at Leo runaway. Leo comesthe pod, checks some things out for
what looked like star charts as arewalks up behind him. He turns back
to her. They have another overthe shoulder, a tense moment, A
couple of cuts in a little bitcloser. I'm wondering, you remember we
were talking about Pericles earlier and stuntactors and whatever. I'm wondering if this

(04:03):
is a scene where he attacked HelenaHelena Bonham Carter whenever she's holding him.
So I'm immediately bothered in this moment. He hands off Pericles, assist take
good care of him. Okay,he's not just saying I'm fucking off right
now, Yeah, I mean he'snever said I'm leaving yet. Then if
you fast forward up to after heruns to the pod and she puts it

(04:27):
down, Pericles and comes right backover and she says to him, he
says, the coordinates of the stormthat brought me here, that whole thing,
right, and then he begins tosay that he has to leave.
I mean, what is his plan? But why is he not announcing he
has to leave before he hands offPericles? Because I mean, guests,
Pericles, if I'm her go,why you can stay and take care of

(04:47):
him? She should ask that question. He's not said I'm leaving? Has
he? He? He is not? But it the assumption with the landing
of the pod is that it's goingto but it were it also only seats
one person, like he's got it. There's got to be so a little
more here for this. This theship finding something would be his indication that

(05:09):
he's got to go, right,That would be the eye cannot stay here.
I've got to go. I needto pass off Pericles onto you.
And what is his plan? Imean, his station, his crash,
He's in the future. So ishe just going to fly back to Earth?
I mean, and why does hethink that that that cloud is going
to do? From what he can'tget back to Earth as far as we
know with it. But yeah, from what we've seen, that cloud shuns

(05:31):
you into the future. So ifhe jumps into it, he just gonna
go further into the Maybe that's onceagain it's internal logic is screwy. But
there the weirdness too. I wishit would stay mean a lot to me.
All these things once again, thesexual which we were trying to build
up on that, Yeah, Idon't get it. I don't get why

(05:53):
they care about each other other thanthat they've had quiet moments that have tried
to say they do. There's nota lot that happens in this minute.
And this may be finally the one. You know, Richard had predicted there'd
be short minutes. I think thisone could be because again it's hand off.
The monkey limbo makes some noises,Leo runs over and says, I

(06:14):
gotta go, and well, whywhy was she over on the left and
he has to run to the shipto the right, and then she's back
on the He's back on the leftnow and she's on the right. I
could like, I don't. Well, to be fair, they don't cross
the screen directions. They flip itbecause if you look, you see her

(06:38):
in the background still and then sheputs down pericles and comes over to him,
so like the whole point of himhanding it off, she like dumps
him off as fasts what she cando. He ran in one direction and
then it doesn't matter. It's goofyand all of it's. Man, I
can't even find anything to break apartin it because nothing happens. Well,

(07:00):
we know that he's not going backin the cloudy. We know that he's
leaving his monkey behind. Yeah, yeah, right, and you know in
the Sunday they're gonna tell a storylike someday they can tell a story.
Right now, everybody sees what's goingon, right, what doesn't he admonished
limbo? Limbo goes over and thatdoesn't touch anything, and alarms go off.
That's the best we can Yeah, why doesn't he turns? Get away

(07:21):
from that? Wouldn't you? Orwhat did you touch? Right? Don't
get nothing? Nothing? It didon its own. Yeah. Characters have
to act and react to with theenvironment and what's given to him. And
it's once again cut limbo cut himwell so again that I'm just annoyed.
The movie has just ended. Likethe movie has just ended. There's and

(07:44):
it's a weekending like sorry, madea big assumption, I mean, Davidson
made a big assumption that Ari wouldtake care of Pericles. I mean,
he just handed her either a childor a pet without her consent. Either
way, he showed so Richard calledout, and I agree with him,
he should humanity. In the lastmoment when he picked up Pericles, was
caring about him and even treated Limbowith a little bit of respect. Hey,

(08:05):
I understand where you're hiding, butPles, but then he's the worst
parent in the world, going, hey, you take care of him,
right, you're alive. Goodbye yourkid, nap bye. And and also
you've seen it before in a thousandmovies. Why didn't he kneel down to
his child. Hey, hey, buddy, I'm glad you came here,
but I've got to go. I'vegot to go. You know that we
can. I can't stay. AndI've also got it. I gotta see

(08:26):
if I can fix this. Whydoes he what does it he has to
fix? Well? I mean, does he think he's going to go back
in time and stop himself from goingout there or stop Pericles from going I
don't know what his plan is andis it the solar flares and all that
kind of stuff, and it Idon't fucking know. I don't get what
heat why he feels he has toleave because that pod they even they alluded

(08:50):
to that they were short distance podsor something like that. At the first
of it, that is not adeep space of view. His ship is
gone. Yeah, he got backinto a storm that could pretend actually kill
him and the hopes of going backin time time forward in time. Do
you know why he leaves because weneed to get faded into the weird future
that somehow wait changes, what endingare you talking? Whatever? I fuck

(09:11):
this, I cash it. Weneed we needed him to give us some
exposition on what he's trying to do, where he's trying to go, why
he needs to leave, so thatwe have some sense to the fact that
he's just not I'm just gonna getin the space him. See what the
fuck happens? Characters often have toexplain themselves like that so we emotionally can
latch onto it. And there's nothing. And once again Leo is given nothing

(09:33):
that makes me give two ships abouthim. Look at I'm done with this
minute. Let's go all right? How long are we talking about this minute?
Not even ten minutes? Ten minutes? Wow, not even ten minutes.
We haven't even talked for ten We'reslowly getting closer and closer. Does
anybody even care about the fact thatthe ship is just suddenly finding the storm,

(09:56):
Like there was no reason for theship to go, Hey, I
found the storm, dude, likewe needed you know, if if if
he had uh whenever, Perles likeprogrammed it to say where did you come
from? Let let him walk overwith Pericles Pericles hopping for a second,
do something right allowing this like Idon't know, that's just so bad.

(10:20):
All right, that's it. Icall this one done. We officially went
ten and a half minutes. Ithink that is our threshold. We have
to poor audience. This week itwas like, hey, we did eleven
minutes. We did it well. They don't have to suffer either. So
there you go again. We getto those next reason. I'm not saying
they're perfect. I'm not saying wewon't find wait till we get the laws.
But I can already think of whatI know. My first major flaw

(10:41):
is with the first movie, andit happens like when the first twenty minutes
and there are flaws, but stillI can think of the emotional subtext between
the James Franco character and why he'screating what he's creating that's beautiful and it's
beautifully done, and it's handled beautifullyand I can't wait to actually be gleeful
again about Hey, they did this, and I wish they missed an opportunity.

(11:05):
But this is so good. Thisis so bad. Yeah, that's
I don't even know. This isnot a scene where you look at inc.
I could simply fix the scene withthat. You would have to go
back and do forty pages of rewritesto make this scene work with a few
other changes. It's just terrible.Okay, that's it. Minute one oh
seven. It's just terrible. It'sterrible. Everyone have a great day,

(11:28):
by everybody.
