Według danych Głównego Inspektoratu Weterynarii w roku 2016 wykryto 22 przypadki wścieklizny w Polsce. W 2017 było ich 10, w roku 2018 poinformowano o 9 chorych zwierzętach dzikich, a w 2019 o 11. W 2020 statystyki GIW informują o 10 przypadkach wścieklizny u zwierząt dzikich i 2 u domowych. Wyraźny wzrost widać w danych za rok 2021 - ponad 110 przypadków. Nagromadzenie wściekłych osobników głównie na Wschodzie Polski wynika z faktu, że łatwiej i szybciej dotrzeć tam zwierzętom z Rosji i Białorusi oraz Ukrainy. Są to bowiem kraje, w których wścieklizna jest bardziej rozpowszechniona.
