Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, I'm Carla Campo's and Happy Memorial Day everyone. I
actually get a break today. This is why I'm here
on this podcast to chat with you guys, because I
definitely have been extremely busy for the month of May
and it's finally over, yes, so I've decided to kind
(00:20):
of slow down. And I know some people were talking
about that they found it odd when people say happy
Memorial Day, right, But at the same time, my dad
was a veteran. He's no longer with us. But I
like to remember the happy moment, so it's not always
about remembering the sad moment. Because sometimes people give up
(00:42):
their lives to better the lives of others, and that's
something that is to be greatly recognized and to be
appreciated and to be happy about that somebody would make
such a sacrifice to make lives better for everyone else.
And sometimes I don't want to get into this topic,
but I mean, it's kind of inedible, inevitable, thank you,
(01:02):
not to talk about the wars and things that are
going on in our world affecting our families, children and
the most innocent people out there are being affected because
people can't get along. People rather turn to violence, a
lot of the times instead of talking about issues that
can make the world a better place for everyone. Hence
(01:23):
wars begin and a lot of people lose their loved ones.
So I would like to take this time to be
thankful and grateful for those out there who defend the innocent,
and at the same time, like, if we're going to
be thinking about loved ones who have lost their lives,
let's also think about how we can make the world
a better place so people don't have to unless really
really necessary, right, unless it's a super threat. I don't
(01:46):
know why I laugh there, but I guess it's because
of the irony of it, right, that we could do
so much good in the world without having to get
into the physical conflict and wars. So much we could
do to try to avoid that. So yeah, anyway, Happy
Memorial Day. I hope you're having a good day. I
know we've had some rough years here for humanity. I
(02:09):
would like to, I mean, talk about the pandemic a
little bit. That created a lot of change and rough
times for many people. And since we're just thinking about
those we have loss. At the time of the pandemic,
a lot of the medical staff, a lot of people
were calling them heroes. A lot of people were losing
a lot of people and everything. So I think it's
(02:29):
a good time to remember those people as well, because
not all heroes were capes, and I think that was
the slogan at the time. And it's just a good
time to sit down and really think about life and
what it means to us and what we can do
as entrepreneurs, as entrepreneur moms to make the world a
better place with our product. And I've been reading tons
(02:49):
of posts across social media and many people have that mindset,
let's add to the world, right, Let your business be
the gift to leave for the world, if that's what
you want to do. So this is a good moment
if you're already an entrepreneur, to take the time to
remember why you started. Right. Maybe it was out of necessity,
maybe you needed to make money, but maybe it was
(03:12):
just you were I don't know, board at work you
wanted to do something bigger in your mind. Not that
the people working are not doing big things, because a
lot of people who are employed are doing big things.
They're part of big organizations. Take some environmentalists, for example,
that are trying to make the world a better place.
Take a lot of these social entrepreneurs who are trying
(03:33):
to make the world better for different communities, and also
their employees because it takes a team. And I've been
talking about it's across social media how sometimes people take
entrepreneurs and try to put them against the employees. But
you can't have one without the other unless you're a
solopreneur doing it all, and that's fine, that's your thing.
But if you're an entrepreneur with a larger business, you
(03:54):
know you can't do it all and you have to
have people in place, so you can't actually be like, hey,
I'm better than all my employees, I'm the lord here,
like a dictator, because then your employees are not going
to be happy. And I was also talking about this,
like it doesn't mean you have to be happy all
the time, because in life we're not happy all the time.
But you want to be in a good environment where
at least that's the goal, where people are treated well,
(04:16):
where people are respected, where you know, we try to
redirect when performance is low and we're honest about it,
and we don't have to feel resentment if somebody gives
us feedback, we don't like we actually take that feedback
and try to improve ourselves. Because we're in a good
environment environment, we're motivated to just be better people. And
our goal in the end is to make the world
(04:38):
a better place for everyone, because if you have an
abundant mindset, you know there's enough of the pie for everyone, right,
You're not like hiding the pie inside the oven and
waiting for the guests to leave so you can eat
the pie. And I say that because my grandma sometimes
used to do that. But I understand her mindset because
(04:58):
where she grew up and how she grew up, there
was scarcity. So my grandma was from Esalavador. She's no
longer with us, and she wasn't rich. I mean, she
wasn't necessarily super super poor. But in that environment, there's
like a scarcity mindset where what you have you have
(05:18):
to hold on to because people are trying to take
it because it's such a poor place that other people
are just trying to grab what they can. You know,
because when you have that garcity mindset, when you're used
to that environment, that's how you adapt. So she used
to do that. Even when we moved to the US.
She used to even though we were abundantly. Okay, like
(05:38):
we were not rich, but we were good. You know,
a lot of Spanish people are good and have family
parties and invite people over to share in food, sometimes
on the weekends, sometimes for holiday, et cetera. But there's
always an abundance of food at these parties. And she
used to just hide food in the oven for some reason.
And you're like, Grandma, what are you doing, oh, so
(06:00):
that everybody doesn't eat everything. And I'm like, we have
like three we have like three trays of lazaga. You
don't have to hide one because the guests will eat
it and take some home. We'll still have enough. So
from observing that, I understand that people can have that
lack mentality instead of the abundant mindset. And you have
to watch that because the lack mindset causes you to
(06:23):
become jealous, bitter, angry, sad, It causes all those negative emotions.
And I don't like to necessarily say that emotions are negative,
but there those emotions are on the subtracting side, right,
So when you're angry, it subtracts from your happiness, and
it's an indicator that something's not correct in your environment.
Because it's making you angry, but at the same time,
(06:43):
you don't have a right to act on that anger
on other people. You have to sit down with your
emotion and understand why you're feeling this way right, why
you're in this emotion that is taking away from your happiness,
And once you figure that out, you can make a
plan instead of acting out of anger and on violence
or anything like that, or thinking black. You have a
(07:04):
clarity from sitting down with your emotion instead of acting
upon it. So I hope that's making sense. Because emotions
run people. Emotions can sometimes actually self sabotage your own
business and work. And I know that we can't control
a lot of situations, and I've heard so many stories.
Don't think that. I'm only like, Hey, life is about
rainbows and butterflies. Nothing bad ever happens. Horrible things happen
(07:28):
to good people. That's life. And we chose this journey
for whatever reason to experience everything we're experiencing. And I
know that doesn't give you necessarily a shoulder to cry on,
but I hope at least these words inspire you to
just sit down with your emotions and think, hey, sometimes
life is not fair. But I can't sit in my
(07:49):
emotions about that. On fairness, I have to keep moving
forward with my plan because at least if I feel
like I'm giving something back to the community, if I'm
making the world a better place, I know that I'm
adding to the world and helping take away those emotions
from people at times, not all the time. Look, I'm
not a sponge of your emotions. Everybody has to take
(08:12):
care of their own stuff because you can't put the
weight of your life with others as well, because now
you're subtracting, right, And it's different because some people pay
for therapy, right, and you're giving back because you're paying
in money, digital or paper currency, whatever you're paying, and
you're exchanging your energy for someone's time. So that's an
equal balance relationship, right. It's not you're just taking, you're
(08:36):
just taking. You're in your emotions. You want everyone's to
feel like you feel instead of like figuring out or
getting help figuring out why you're feeling like you're feeling
and then working on that. And that's so important in
business because if you are feeling a certain way, it
could take away from your business. It could make everything
feel like it's a lack like everything's lacking when it
(08:56):
may not be lacking. You just might be feeling that
emotion so much that you you see the work environment
in the wrong light. Right, You're not seeing clearly because
your emotions are clouding everything. So I think that's an
important topic. And a lot of the time when I'm
talking to business owners and just people in the business world,
they have a lot of heavy feelings. They have a
lot of heavy feelings because things are not going the
(09:18):
way they expected. People were acting like A or like
B or like C. And it's just like, hey, this
is not the ideal that I learned in school business
should be like. But you're dealing with people, so it's
not going to be the ideal. Right, So regardless of
how you're feeling, everyone else is feeling ten million different
ways at one time. And if you're dealing with large crowds,
(09:42):
they're all in their feelings for whatever reason. Right, And
I'm not saying feelings are bad, but it's just like,
it's not the workplace. The entrepreneur environment is never it's
never the ideal. It's never perfect. Like you're there to
serve as a business owner, right, you have a product,
you have a service, that you're offering people because they
need help. Right, You're being of service to the people
(10:04):
because they're not perfect. They need they need your expertise
for whatever reason, to help them cope with their feelings,
to help them solve their problems. And it's never perfect.
So again, I just want to wish you a happy
Memorial Day, or at least a good hearted Memorial Day
where even if you're sad, you can take the positive
out of somebody's life and sacrifices and see the good
(10:28):
in that. I'm Carla Campos for the Entrepreneur Mom's podcast.
