The Pulitzer Prize-winning podcast returns for its second season!

Seven years after his release from prison, former juvenile lifer Luis "Suave" Gonzalez seems to be thriving. His career has taken off, he’s in a committed relationship and he’s received public recognition after telling his story on the podcast. Suave always thought once he was out of prison and found stability in his new life, he would finally feel truly free. But freedom, it turns out, is more complicated than it seems. "Suave" is a deeply intimate portrait of a man battling the lingering trauma of incarceration and his search for happiness in the outside world after a near-lifetime in prison. In this season we explore the long shadow of prison.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
You can leave prison, but does the lingering trauma of
prison ever leave you? That's what Future Studios new season
of the Pulitzer Prize winning podcast Suave explores. In the
new season, the podcast documents the story of Leuis Suave Gonzalez,
a Philadelphia man who gets a second chance at freedom
after decades in prison serving a life without parole sentence

(00:21):
handed down as a teenager. Today, I'm sharing with you
the trailer of the second season. It's a story about
life after incarceration, the challenges, the joys, and the complicated
ways in which people reandering society must learn to redefine
themselves after prison. Season two of Suave releases new episodes
weekly starting on April fifteenth, twenty twenty five. A warning,

(00:44):
this episode contains explicit language.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Okay, Swabe, so this is the first time that you've
been back in this studio. How are you feeling.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Let's get it done.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
It's been seven years since David Louise Swabe Gonzalez was
released from prison after being sentenced to serve life without
paul as a teenager. We're driving away, yes, Swabin, We're
driving away from grit and it was this unexpected friendship
with journalist Marino Josa that brought this story to a

(01:22):
national spotlight. Louis Swabe Gonzalez is working hard to give back.
Do you like it when people call you mister Pulitzer?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
N Listen, I ain't gonna lie.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
That shit plays in my eagles. But not everything is
what it seems.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Being free is not what everybody think it is. It's
really not. Everybody hype it up, like all your pains
and misery are gone. That's bullshit, man. My miseries and
pains are just starting.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Because life on the outside means a whole new set
of problems from dealing with lifetime parole.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
I can't drink, I cannot smoke a little bit of weed,
I can't travel. I'm like that down there, everybody here
got a gun, and I'm like, I gotta get out
of here. Being in a relationship is giving up part
of your freedom? Am I willing to give my freedom
up again? Because I'm searching for love? Man?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Fuck love?

Speaker 3 (02:23):
If it comes to that, No, no, no, no, no,
and no.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
To the complexities of human relationships. What kind of an
asshole would I have been if I didn't answer your
clothes from prison?

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Or you know, people do nothing. Yeah. Yeah, later on
they throw it in your face.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
This season, we look at the long shadow of prison.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
With me.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
That's how it's gonna go down. It's on sight. That's
the do y'all wanted. Y'all got them.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
I just don't want to see your batter hearing you
say that like that, scar as the fucking shit at me.
I'm Julieta Martinelli and this is Suave, season two, a
story about life after incarceration and the search for the
true meaning of freedom. They check his bag and what

(03:20):
did they find? Julieta shit out now on the suavi Feed.
