Zaproponowaliśmy spacer po Aszchabadzie, stolicy Turkmenistanu, która została wpisana do księgi rekordów Guinessa mając prawie 600 budynków z białego marmuru. Byliśmy w spektakularnym kanionie Yangykala i u „Wrót Piekieł” na pustyni Kara-Kum. Na naszej trasie znalazły się ruiny starożytnego Merw, zwanego Antiochią Margiańską, które w XII wieku zaliczane było do największych miast świata.
Trafiliśmy na stanowisko archeologiczne Nisa z pozostałościami po starożytnej stolicy państwa Partów, stanowiącej barierę przeciw ekspansji rzymskiej. Ostatnie miejsce z listy UNESCO, które odwiedziliśmy to Kunia-Urgencz, dawna stolica starożytnego Chorezmu, należąca do największych miast na Jedwabnym Szlaku.
