(00:06):
Let me not until your down downWelcome, Welcome, This is necessary roughness.
I am Darbia Kingpin Morrow in forErica Rodriguez Today a longside c J.
(00:31):
Cobb, Guards Infinite. What's goingon the running in today? That's
right, that's right, and I'mfeeling right. Oh yes, it's homies
night. I'm kind of hype,I'm kinda no, I'm good man,
(00:52):
I'm good obviously coming off the holidayfestivities. Uh, safely, I may
add, definitely still practice all oursafety precautions, but feeling refreshed, renewed,
um and had a couple of drinks, so I'm rebrewed there you go
over there over the holiday. Uh, that's that's trademark too. I'm copyright
(01:15):
now, I'm rebrewed. You knowwhat I'm saying. Yeah, put that
on the shirt definitely. Yeah.Yeah. But family is good. We're
starting a new year off correctly withwith mindset focus. Hey man, it's
no time wasted this year. Everythingis purposeful in our intentions. Let's get
(01:36):
it all right, let's go Guardsand then the words of Erica Garbs the
infinite carves, Carbs infinite, theother ladies Carbs. I'm good. It's
gonna kill me for that. She'sgonna kill me for that. She is,
she is. I'm spectagonal it thoughI can't complain. I'm alive and
(01:56):
breathing, made it through another year, enjoyed the holiday time. You know,
I had my have my you know, week of Christmas sweaters. You
know, so you got, yougot, you know, Wolverine, you
got the Grench, you got aFestivals sweater, you know. So you
know I don't. I don't playaround with it, you know. So
(02:16):
do you keep those or are yougonna like, are you gonna rewear them
next Christmas? Or are you gonnaget new ones? No, I'm gonna
keep them. I'm gonna rewear themand add to the collection. So here's
my goal, right, Okay,So eventually it's gonna be a couple of
years. I'm not just gonna goand buy them all at once, but
I want to start at Thanksgiving andjust have enough to just go all the
(02:38):
way through through Christmas with ugly Christmassweaters. That is commitment, it is.
That's why I say it's gonna take. It's gonna take a few years.
So I've been working on the collectionfor like three years as of right
now, so, you know, and when I see something I like,
I buy it, So it hasto be something dope, Like I had
to the crying Jordan Mean Christmas sweater, so I had really appreciate it that,
(03:00):
you know, it was. It'sa dope sweater. You know what.
Any any sports basketball fan, anymeme fan, is gonna relate to
that. I'm good. I'm good. And then and then my Buckeyes and
my Brown's winning the same weekend.I'm so excited. That's right, that's
(03:21):
right. Speaking of which, let'stalk about it. So, of course,
the Cleveland Browns have made the playoffsfor the first time since two thousand
and two, and they go SundayNight Football to try to win their first
playoff game since nineteen Yes, um, this is obviously a momentous occasion.
(03:46):
There's obviously a lot of other issuesgoing on, and we'll talk about that
a little later, right right,But first I think it's important to take
some time to just talk about themoment, this occasion of the Browns making
it to the super Bowl in thefirst place. Garbs, since you are
a fellow lung Cleveland Browns, howdid you? How did you jump off?
(04:15):
We got a few more games becauseI believe I have faith. But
Garbs, since you are a lungsuffering Cleveland Browns fan, you get the
first word on this. How youfeel, I'm man, it's it's I'm
elated, like watching that game, especially UH from watching the other game that
(04:40):
we lost we should have won,you know, UH with against the Jets,
and then watching us beat Pittsburgh andthen clinching a spot that it really
just made me happy, Like justwatching it. I think I applauded,
and probably my neighbor has heard itbecause I screamed, so I all want.
You know, the game was oncethe game, once Baker made that
(05:01):
that that final that that last playthat you know, just solidified it.
With the time, I'm like,I'm just so happy because you know,
I remember when the team UH left, you know, even before that,
when the team was you know,we were at the end where of the
team being good. I remember whenthe team left. I remember when the
(05:24):
team came back and how excited wewere, and the last time that we
actually made it to the wild card, how excited I was. And it's
interesting now that we're eighteen years later, now that our our postseason UH drought
can actually go out and vote.Um, it's interesting that we're returning back
(05:49):
to this game against the Steelers, who we lost to that wild card back
in two thousand and two. Seedsyour thoughts on the Browns finally getting back
to the playoffs for the first timesince two thousand and two. Well,
I knew this day was coming whenthe Cavaliers finally won the championship. There's
(06:15):
a curse that was on the cityof Cleveland, and the Cavs started by
lifting it back in twenty sixteen, and it was only a matter of time
before the Browns followed suit. Iwill not give them the Super Bowl.
That is just fullhearty because I don'tI don't know if you know this,
uh DERBYO, but there's a teamin Kansas City that's pretty freaking good.
(06:40):
Um. They have pretty much everythingyou could want on an all maddened team
with all the players maxed out atninety nine going up against you know,
your Cleveland Browns, so uh wellthat they would go up again if they
make it that far, I'm notsure that would be then AFC Championship exactly.
(07:01):
So first they got to get throughPittsburgh again, which is this is
this Actually I'm excited for because it'slike it's like the the end of the
of a good action movie where thatthat villain who's been kind of getting the
upper hand for for a while finallyhas to face off with the up and
coming hero and now they got aclass in a in a final battle.
(07:24):
Uh, and we're gonna see,you know, who's gonna get uh knocked
off? You know, are wegoing to see a sequel uh with with
Cleveland moving on? Or is thisgoing to be the end of the series.
You know. So I'm excited forit. You know, congrats to
Cleveland. Obviously the city is electricwith the news. Uh. Yeah,
(07:45):
man, it's it's a great dayin Cleveland. Hey, didn't we make
a bet about that? Because didn'tI say that we were going to the
playoffs the very first episode? Youknow, It's it's crazy that you bring
up the pass because what I've learnedfrom the past is that sometimes things are
said without proper context, and unlessyou have proper contexts, then you cannot
(08:11):
really hold or build a foundation orhold accountable to that situation of words that
was propostated and propagated onto that saidsituation. So it's so Facto one to
(08:31):
seven eight. Remember I remember whatwe said. I remember what we said.
At the same time, I feelthat you cannot hold me to that
because at the time, see,as a babe, I ate as babies
(08:52):
do. But as a man,I now require solid food, as the
Bible states, Now you miss youdid the good reverend give that good reverend
gave that to me. He gaveme that gym. So it's okay,
you know, you don't you don'thave to uh, you know, you
(09:13):
don't have to pay me or anythingor give me my my just just do
uh you know, loser, ifyou prefer, I'll tell you what as
right now. I plan on beingin Cleveland, coming up pretty soon here,
and I will pay what I owe. There you go. What the
(09:33):
bet? Do you remember the bet? We have to go back? It's
something. But I cannot be expectedto pay in full what I owe because,
once again, due to the contextof the situational period of which was
(09:54):
stated, the proprietary deal that wasput on the table, bowl cannot.
If so factor will be re launchedand re brewed into what is now a
suitable uh congratulatory gift for you.But but I'm like Aaron Beric b Rock
him. You know what I'm saying. I'm trying to be paid in full.
(10:20):
All right, we have we havetwo minutes left. We have more
to talk about on this topic. But I have to ask you this.
Guards. This is a one ofthose radio questions. Okay, if if
somebody told you that the Browns weregoing to go to the Super Bowl and
win it, but we had togo through twenty twenty in order for that
to happen, would you take thatdeal? We had to go we had
(10:43):
to go back. Oh man, would you take that deal? Twenty twenty
was horrible? Bro? Like thefuture and the President? I remember,
remember that time when you couldn't buytoilet paper at Walmart because that's twenty twenty.
(11:07):
Do you have to go back throughthat? Right? I don't know
about that, man, Like Iwant to the Browns to win the super
Bowl because of course, you know, everybody, you know, people are
saying, of course the Browns wouldmake the playoffs in the year like what
we just had, right. Ithink that that's that's part of this whole
(11:28):
thing, is that you know,uh, we got through all this,
the Browns go to the super Bowland we can't even go That is movie
quality irony right there. Very goodpoint, So stay stay tuned when we
come back. We have more totalk about with the Browns. Of course,
they have some issues going into thisgame, so we're gonna discuss that
(11:52):
in a little bit more when wecome back here on Necessary do you feel
like everyone is yelling at each otherbut no one is listening to each other
or themselves. I'm Cura Davis postof Just Listen to Yourself, a weekly
exercise in critical thinking and drawing ourtalking points all the way out to their
logical conclusions, because I believe whenwe take the time to examine our own
(12:13):
talking points, we can realize we'renot always saying what we think we're saying.

(12:58):
as Oh way, don't forget tosubscribe to the show on iHeartRadio, Apple
podcast or wherever you get your podcasttoday, so you never miss a moment
of this show. So we weretalking about the Browns. Of course,
the Browns making it to the playoffsfor the first time since two thousand and
(13:20):
two, and of course that doesnot come without some drama. As of
right now, there are I don'teven remember how many people are out on
the COVID list have COVID, butthere are players, coaches, including the
head coach, Kevin Stefanski. Obviously, this is nothing that the Browns wanted
(13:45):
to hear. Stefanski will not beable to coach the team in any way,
even electronically, because that is againstthe NFL rules. So now the
team is going into the playoffs.Alex Van Pelt is going I believe he's
the quarterbacks coach. He's going tobe um calling the plays. So now
(14:05):
they have to go into the playoffswithout their head coach, without their offensive
lineman, Joe Patonio, the longestthe longest tenured Brown still on the team,
and several other players and coaches. So CJ, I'm gonna go to
you first, as a former footballplayer, what does this do to their
game? Plan doesn't really look becausepeople always ask do coaches really have that
(14:28):
much of an impact on the footon the football game? Will this really
upset their their game plan? Willthey really have to make an adjustment?
Oh, they're They're hundred percent haveto make an adjustment. Um, anytime
you lose your head man, that'sthe head coach, just the guy that
has his finger on the post, not only of the team, but of
(14:48):
the game, and who's usually whothe buck stops with. Uh, it's
definitely going to be an adjustment.Now. They're obviously going to do the
best they can eating up into thegame with practice in preparation time, they're
gonna try and script out as manyscenarios as they possibly can. So on
fourth and long, if this,if they're lined up in this coverage,
(15:11):
we have these pool of plays topull from. UM and he's gonna give
his his advice or his two centson what he would call. But ultimately,
for the players, it's gonna bea big adjustment just because going into
a game of this magnitude and youdon't have everybody with you that got you
(15:33):
to this point, it's it's reallygoing to test the depth of the team.
I would say on the player's standpoint, it's going to test the depth
of the team. Who can comein and step up and be a significant
kind I would say, hero,Who's who's gonna step in and really fill
some big shoes, especially along theoffensive line when you're losing your most tenured
(15:56):
line alignment of today on that frontto protect Baker Mayfield. So it's definitely
going to be a big adjustment. But like I said, they're gonna have
to make the most of their preparationtime leading up to this game. Before
I go to Garbs, I wantto ask you a follow up question on
that talk. Talk a little bitabout like how important is the head coach
(16:18):
really to to a football team, because, like I said, people people
question that, what kind of impactdoes does a head coach have on the
football team. Well, he's theguy that he kind of gets the sense.
He's the one that circles the wagons. So if if stuff is going
crazy, stuff is not going theway it needs to go, he's the
one that hits that emergency stop button. Okay, bring it up, everybody.
(16:42):
I need to talk to you, you, you, you, everybody
who need to get on the samepage. He's the one that controls the
tempo, the mindset of that teamto make sure that they're on one accord,
and not only of his players, but he also has to coordinate with
the coaching staff. So he's twofronts. He's coordinating the players making sure
(17:02):
that they're on the same accord, while also coordinating with the coaches through the
headset, making sure that the gameplan is being followed and if anything goes
awry, okay, what adjustments dowe need to make. That's why you'll
see the head coach get into anargument with the defensive coordinator or an offensive
coordinator on the sideline because something didnot either click or someone missing assignment and
(17:25):
they need to get that fixed now. And if you take out the head
coach, you kind of take outthat guy who has the emergency stop button,
the guy who coordinates everything. Nowyou just have the coordinators kind of
on their own trying to make surethings go correctly without that unifying bridge of
(17:45):
the head coach to coordinate both playersand coaches on the same page. All
right, guards your thoughts on whatthe Browns have to do now to make
sure that they could still be competitiveand win this game. First, I
just had to let that sigh outbecause it's almost like twenty twenty just said,
(18:06):
Hey, I'm not good yet yet, I'm still here. I'm still
here. I don't know. Imean, I'm I'm super excited that we're
in this game. It's definitely troublesomethat we have so many people out,
uh and then specifically they head coachout because Stefanski has done a spectacular job.
(18:33):
I mean, you think just twoyears ago, Uh, we had
an O and sixteen parade outside ofCleveland Brown Stadium. That was two years
ago, wasn't it. Yeah?I think it was yeah sixteen, And
then now in one year for forhim to be brought into the team and
(18:57):
for us to be able to flipbit and change things to where, you
know, these guys this year foundways to win games that you know,
if it was a couple of yearsago, we probably would have caught an
el on and he's a big,big part of that. So it's definitely,
Uh, it's definitely troublesome that he'sgoing to be out this week.
(19:18):
But I think that because this teamactually has worked on finding ways to win
uh and and digging deep this year, I think it still gives us some
potential for this game to to topotentially still win this. So it's not
you know it, it's not completelyout of the question for us to get
(19:41):
a w one this. Uh.You know, one thing that I wanted
to kind of rehash though, youknow, granted, this is the playoffs
and we're in new territory because it'snow the playoffs under COVID guidelines, But
one question I wanted to see whatyou guys thought about is, you know,
(20:04):
Steelers and Ravens both had games pushedback because of the amount of COVID
cases within the team. On theteams, we were not allotted that same
opportunity when we played the Jets andwe had had our wide receiver corps out.
(20:30):
We did not get that. We'renot getting that same thing now,
right, So it's kind of like, I don't know, I feel a
little some type of way that thatsame thing was not extended to us this
year. And I don't want tobe like, oh, everybody's against Cleveland,
but it's kind of like, comeon, now, why can't we
get some of that same look?So let me let me say what they're
(20:53):
what their reasoning is, and thenget you guys' response to it. So
basically, what the NFL is sayingis that they they extended those to those
teams because they found that COVID wasin the facility. So what they are
(21:15):
saying, what they are alleging, because we don't know for sure, but
what they are alleging is that theBrowns are getting it through community spread.
So whether it's through family members oryou know, girlfriend, wife, whatever,
going to the store or whatever, they're saying that they're getting it through
community spread. I tend to agreewith your perspective on this because at some
(21:41):
point when they are like twelve, either twelve or thirteen something like that,
people on the COVID list right now, at some point, when does it
cross the threshold into outbreak Because theNFL is only going to read, is
only going to read schedule or postponegames in the event of an outbreak.
(22:04):
And they are still saying that theBrowns are not experiencing an outbreak, But
it looks like an outbreak to me. So you know, it's close.
I mean, it's right there.I mean, at the end of the
day, is that these people werestill when you look at the time frame
that you had that these people couldhave caught this and then them being around
(22:26):
each other, and then within daysof them playing a game against the exact
team that we're playing this week,we played them last week. Wow,
this potentially could be an outbreak betweenthe two teams. Between the two teams,
you know, any boy giving propsto each other at the end of
the game too. So I don'tknow, I just I questioned that decision
(22:52):
making. Maybe it's because we're theunderdog. I don't know. I don't
want to assume anything, but Ijust think it's a little bit um spected,
suspect. It's definitely a little bitsuspect toward towards the land. I
mean, show us the same love, show up, show us the same
(23:15):
uh things, the same respect thatyou've shown other teams in their core players,
UH and and and try to giveus a chance to get better,
Give a chance to get better sowe can play at our uh at our
highest highest level. Right it is. It is a little suspect, like
the NFL not being able to findthat Mason Rudolph tape. But moving on,
(23:37):
uh CJ your thoughts on this wholeissue with the COVID outbreak and in
the NFL's response to it. Yeah, first, real quick, I want
to go back to again with thehead coach being out. Uh One,
one major thing that Cleveland now isis that head coach is one of the
(24:02):
main stays of who that team is, so he was the one that kind
of foresaw. Yeah, the teamidentity now is it takes a little bit
of a hit because the team usuallywill take on the identity of that head
coach. So even though the teamidentity now is running the football, we
know that now that's established, let'shope that they still keep with that.
As as far as the NFL's responseto Cleveland's, we have thirty seconds,
(24:29):
so let's let's table that for thenext segment. We'll give your thoughts on
that when we come back, andthen we'll move on to the next top.
Well, Guard's got time to speon it. But when it comes
to CJ's turn, I can't geta lot of that same courtesy, you
know what, Like what we're talkingabout, Ye go to break outbreak That's
(24:51):
what we're going to right now, outbreak, And I'm not getting the same
respect that these other teams get andother people out go ahead to break right
back necessary roughness. Oh man, here we go again of yelling at three
am my enemy another friend energy.I let you take it then to make
it even Stephen on the weekend, you're gonna buy me things love just to
(25:11):
get arranged where you desturb my balance, that's the thing. So is it
worth it? It's Aaron Leik here. Check out my new single worth it,
and don't forget to follow me everywhereon all social media platforms and streaming
platforms to hear my new music rightwhen it drops. It's gonna say we
deserve this, you know, Soit's it worth it I really wanted Sometimes
(25:33):
this is necessary roughness. Welcome back, Welcome back, once again, you're
listening to necessary roughness. I'm DarielKing couldmorrow in for Erica Rodriguez today alongside
CJ Cole and guards in Ford. And of course we're gonna go to CJ.
(25:56):
You heard CJ was bellyaching a littlebit because we had to go to
break. So if I had asmuch money as the nerve you have,
so we'll go straight to CJ.Uh your thoughts on on the COVID outbreaking
and well, what they're not callingan outbreak, but what we're calling an
outbreak that the Browns are dealing withand the NFL's response to it and them
(26:19):
not postponing or moving that game.Listen to make it short and sweet,
money talks and everything else walks. The NFL has been postponing games all through
the season. Uh and at thispoint, now we're in the playoffs,
this is big money time. Thisis where you know, people are going
(26:41):
to be tuning in more to seetheir teams who made it in to watch
these games where the bars are well, I don't know if the bars are
going to be filling up, youknow, obviously certain circumstances, right,
but this is this is where youknow, uh what am my? One
of my thinking of vendors and differentcompanies are going to be paying for that
(27:03):
valuable advertising space on during these games, So I think that plays into it.
Obviously, they they postponed games before, and the scheduling and logistics of
this the season for them to beable to get it done as far as
to this point has been amazing. But I think that may play into it
and not maybe naive on I don'tknow, but I think that plays into
(27:26):
their decision not to postpone these gamesbecause now you're get into the playoffs,
and they just want to bring thisthing home. That's what That's what it
appears to that they just want toThey don't want to have any delays.
They want to get the playoffs andthe super Bowl on time. Go ahead,
Guard, Yeah, I do.I can understand that, you know.
But at the end of the day, is that don't wouldn't everybody want
(27:48):
to see the best game possible andsee the star players play, see the
star coach be in the game andmaking the decisions. So so isn't that
kind of selling the fan base short? Because everybody in clear every Browns fan
is going to be sitting there watchingthat, and it's gonna be in prime
time. It's prime time. It'sthe last game of the whole of that
(28:14):
whole whole round. Yeah. Thereports that I've heard is that basically they're
not going to move this game unlesslike half of the team gets infected.
So, yeah, I guess iswhat it is at this point. I
mean, I'll say this is thatbottom line. I hope that the whole
(28:37):
next man up mentality has stuck. You know, you've been working on all
seasons, which I think that we'vebegan to develop, you know, and
it is what it is. Imean, at the end of the day,
I'm still happy that we've made itto this point, you know,
from where we've came from, evento where we were last year. So
we still have to be thankful asBrown fans that you know, the Browns
(29:02):
were in the playoffs for the firsttime in eighteen years. That's a long
time. It's a long time.Man in a long time. And then
and the obviously that that mentality hasto stick. Like you said, uh,
guards, next man up. It'swhat they get paid to do,
you know. That's why you havea depth chart. That's why you have
(29:22):
backups for cases in which your numberone guy goes down number two. It
shouldn't be that much of a dropoff. Now, I understand that some
guys, some guys are astronomical talents. I get that, But in this
sense, you would hope that you'veput together a team. That's that's the
key word. They're a team thatmeans a set of like minded individuals with
(29:45):
a certain skill set that blends welland messes well with each other. You
would hope that that team has thecorrect number of guys and the correct guys
that can step in there and fillthose shoes or those players that they're that
they're going to be missing. Soyou hit a right on the head.
The next man up mentality is goingto be big here. And that's what
these guys who play are paid for, you know, to step in there
(30:06):
and and when their name is called, their number is called, can't you
step up to the challenger perform? And that's what's going to be tested for
the Cleveland Browns coming up right?Last thoughts on this, Garbs, and
they won't move on. I'm justhappy that, you know, we get
to watch the Browns in the playoffgame and you know, if we're able
(30:26):
to lock it in, which Istill think that it's still a possible and
probable thing that we can still winit. So you know, Cleveland,
things be positive. Uh and let'srock go Browns. Let's do this all
right real quick, Guarbs. SoI'm guessing you got the Browns for for
(30:47):
the game, right, Ceja? Why would you even ask me that?
Uh? I don't know. Yourpicks have been wrong all year, so
I don't know why. You know, your attitude, your tone, and
your perspective has been wrong. Howabout that, you're quite frankly, they've
been they've been offensive. That's whatI feel. Okay, But you know
(31:12):
what, I'm going to go outon a limb here and I'm gonna agree
with you, Guards, and I'mgonna say the Brown's gonna get this because
eighteen years of frustration. Don't.Don't get me wrong, there's some guys
on that team that don't know aboutthe history of Browns losing. But I'm
sure not only the coaching staff, but the front office and fans alike has
(31:33):
been chirping at them, letting themknow how long it's been since the Browns
has been in the playoffs, Sothat has not been lost on the players.
And they're going to really try andgo go all out and give it.
They're all for the city. SoI'm looking for the Browns to kind
of ride that wave of momentum ofthe joy of Cleveland being in the playoffs
and look to pull off some whatsomeone would calling upset. We're gonna We're
(32:00):
gonna go go ahead. Guards.Good to say, one thing is that
I think the theme that they cameup with is that we want more?
Is am I right about that?Ye? Yeah, They're not satisfied love
that we want like that's like,Okay, we got to the playoffs,
let's go to the next level.So let's like, that's where I'm at,
(32:21):
and I think that that's where theteam's at. That's where I think
the mentality of the city and thefan base is at. That's that's just
the commercial that they got that from, the commercial with the little kid.
But I want more, I wantmore. That's the commercial that they took
that from. That's not that's allright, so real, real quick,
(32:43):
we have we have four minutes left. Well, uh, we'll move our
our our next topic to the lastsegment. We'll just use that for the
whole segment. But you brought upsomething, CJ. When you're talking about
the atmosphere of playing uh playoff playoffgames in Cleveland, you happen to have
a little bit of experience in doingthat. Come on, talk a little
(33:07):
bit about what that is like toplay in playoff games in Cleveland. Let
me tell you something. The electricityis enough to freaking run my PlayStation,
my TV, my standing up lamphere a foot massager, charge my kindle,
(33:31):
run my electric stove, power incharge my electric car outside if I
had one. That's how electric thecity and the atmosphere is when you're talking
about Cleveland and playoffs. Let itbe Cleveland playoff basketball, hockey with the
Lake Erie monsters. Let it befootball with the you know, rest in
(33:55):
peace. The Gladiators Arena Football Leagueis no more, but back when the
Gladiers are playing, and then ofcourse the Browns, I mean the Gladiators
played in the Arena Bowl and Clevelandfans sold it out, sold out,
they sold it out. It wasI mean packed quicken Loans. Back then,
(34:16):
it was the Quicker Loans Arena.I think they've changed it now,
right. Yeah. The Rocket MortgageField, the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse was packed
out back then. It was thequeue back in my day the Q and
the Q was a capital que becauseeverybody in there was up screaming loud.
It was amazing, amazing, amazingto play in front of the Cleveland faithful.
(34:42):
Uh there, I will, Iwill say this, There is no
place like a rocking playoff, hungryand excited Cleveland crowd. Um. I
do recommend. I was a Iwas a Gladiators fan of was a season
ticket holder, and this is howI met met this hooligan over there.
Um, I recommend you guys,go to YouTube. There was a video
(35:06):
that I actually taped of the introsfor the for the ArenaBowl when the Gladiators
were in the ArenaBowl, And goand watch that. Just google Cleveland Gladiators
ArenaBowl and it should pop up,um just a few thousand views on there,
and you'll see how electric that environmentwas. It was amazing. And
(35:27):
again this was pre calvs. Championship, This was pre the Indians going back
to the World Series, you know, so the Gladiators had everybody's attention.
It was it was incredible. Imean, it was amazing. Go ahead,
go ahead. This was the yearLebron decided to come back yes to
(35:50):
Cleveland. And all I'm saying iswhen you watch that video, keep a
sharp eye out for number seventy one. It's a guy, just a great
guy. And all I can sayis the the syncres, the secreticity between
him and the Pootex and this guywas amazing. All right, Well,
(36:13):
moving on, were quick and wehave another topic to discuss. Stay tune.
We're gonna get into it. Weare going to tackle no pun intended,
but we are going to tackle whathappened with the Philadelphia Eagles. Stay
tuned. You're listening to necessary Wewant more hot topics, celebrity news,

other but no one is listening toeach other or themselves. I'm Cura Davis

when we take the time to examineour own talking points, we can realize
we're not always saying what we thinkwe're saying. Download Just listen to yourself

Roughness. Welcome back, Welcome back, and listening to necessary roughness. And
once again, of course, makesure that you subscribe to the show on
iHeartRadio, Apple podcasts, or whereveryou get your podcasts. Before we get
(37:52):
out of here, we are goingto talk about what happened in Philadelphia.
So there was an university. ThePhiladelphia Eagles were playing the Washington football team.
Correctly, Yes, So they wereplaying the Washington football team. They
were in a position they were onlydown I believe, either six or seven
(38:13):
points something like that. It wasin the fourth quarter, and the coach
removed their start, their starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts, to bring in a
journeyman who's been with the team forfour years, and he led, and
the coach alleged that Doug Peterson. He alleged that he wanted to see him,
(38:34):
he wanted to see him play.People are saying that they threw through
the game. Obviously, the NewYork Football Giants are very upset because as
a result of Philadelphia not winning thatgame, it kicked the Giants out of
the playoffs altogether. And also,by virtue of them not winning that game,
Philadelphia improved their draft positioning. Theirdraft pick went their number one draft
(38:59):
pick went from number nine to numbersix. So Joe Judge from the New
York Giants spoke briefly about this andgave his thoughts. So we'll go to
that real quick and then we'll getthe guy's opinion on the other set.
I think one thing to keep inmind with this season is we had a
lot of people opt in to thisseason, all right, coaches, players,
(39:22):
that includes family members as well.To look at a group of grown
men who I asked to give meeffort on a day and day out basis
and to empty the tank, andthen I can look them in the eye
ensure them that I'm always going todo everything I can to put them in
a competitive advantage and play them aposition of strength. To me, you
don't ever want to disrespect those playersin our effort and disrespect the game.
(39:42):
The sacrifices that they made to comeinto work every day and test before coming
in to sit and meeting, spacedout to our masks, to have shields
over those masks, to go throughextensive protocols, to travel on unconventional ways,
to get text messages at six startinga more intel practice is going to
be canceled. We have to avirtual day, okay. To tell them,
please don't have your family for Thanksgiving, Please avoid Christmas gatherings. We
(40:06):
know what's your wife's birthday. Let'smake sure we put that one off to
the off season. There's a numberof sacrifices has been made by all the
players and coaches in this league. There's number of sacrifices that come along as
well with the family members of peopleconnected to them. To disrespect the effort
that everyone put forward to make thisseason a success for the National Football League,
To disrespect the game by going outthere and not competing for sixty minutes
(40:28):
and doing everything you can't help thoseplayers win. We will never do that
as long as I'm the head coachof the New York Giants. So barbs
your thoughts of this. Does thishurt the first of all? Did they
attempt to throw that game? Didthey basically lose on purchase? Also,
if they if you believe that theydid, does this hurt the integrity of
(40:51):
the game? I think that's itwas definitely a bad decision first off,
you know because at the end ofthe day, Uh, just in that
clip, these guys are going througha lot just to be able to get
on the field every week, andyou know, especially during this time period,
and everybody is wants to play, they want to win. So now,
(41:16):
just like we've talked in weeks prior, that's gonna affect you. It's
like, okay, cool, great, you get you, you move up
in the draft. But people maywant out after this season. People may
wand out after after that situation, and maybe people don't want to come over.
(41:37):
Maybe people don't want to come andand this is a this is a
team that just what what year did, was there a super Now they seem
like you change to this, youchange from that to this. This is
what you're doing. Why would youmake that type of decision? Win the
(41:59):
game, the game, win thegame. It does affect the integrity completely.
CJ. Th Herm Edwards said itbest we played to win the game,
and that right there was one ofthe one of the most beyond me
moments I have seen so far thisSeason's because that was just beyond me.
(42:23):
While you would pull him out andthen follow that up with the response of
I just wanted to see him play. I thought he deserved it because he's
he's been with us so so long, he's worked so hard. I get
that. I get he's worked hardand played, you know, and you
know, done everything you asked ofhim and at scout team and practice and
(42:43):
things like that. I forgot whosaid it on I believe it was first
take. But when did we startgiving out participation trophies? All right,
this isn't this isn't you know,a feel good moment where you know,
the team manager gets to put onthe jersey for the first time. I'm
on a high school basketball team andgo out there and make a bucket and
the other team lets him do it. You know, this is this is
(43:06):
professional football, all right. NateSutfield is a professional football player, and
as professional he knows his role isthe backup quarterback and if something were to
happen where the starting quarterback could notplay, he is to go in and
play. This was something that wasIt was just so weird to see,
(43:27):
like for a team that has beenthrough as much as the Eagles have been
through the season, to end iton that note just was was crazy to
me. M And Joe Judge saidit, said it in his in his
you know, his press conference,is these players sacrifice. You don't we
(43:47):
don't really know the protocols and thethings that these players have to go through.
I mean to where you have towear face masks with a plexiglass sield
over it. You get text inthe mornings saying, hey, practice is
canceled. We have to do avirtual practice. Uh, your wife's birthday
was today. Put that on holdfor the off season till the off season,
(44:09):
you know, put your family onthe back burning, which they have
to do anyway in a normal situation, but now even more so during this
pandemic. The sacrifice, the workthat went into this season, and to
go out there and not give ityour all is not only disrespectful to the
(44:29):
players who you asked to give onehundred and ten percent, but to the
game itself that so many sacrifice tobe in and to play for, to
play in and to get to.So I don't I don't like the cash
judgment or anything, but that itwas just it was just so surreal to
me. I don't understand what themind. I get it, actually I
(44:52):
get it, but I don't getit because because this this falls into the
tanking realm, and you know howI feel about tanking. I don't believe
or players tank front officers maybe becausethey're on another side of things. So
this is the first instance I mayhave seen of a coach actually a game
(45:13):
a game, and yeah, Idon't and trust me, I don't like
putting that out there. That isnot that is a very serious indictment on
somebody's name, all right, Butwhat other reason if you want to see
him play why didn't you play himin the first game when Carson Wentz was
starting, you know, in agame where you can bounce back from that.
You know, this this game here, it just it just didn't sit
(45:36):
right, didn't sit right, didn'tfeel right. And I agree, I
agree with you, especially the questionthat you just asked at the end,
because this was the reason why thiswas just so incredible to me is because
I've never seen anybody do it inthe middle of a game when you had
when you had the option of winningthe game. Normally, if you're going
(45:59):
to do something them like this, they would have started the game with him
as as the as the quarterback. Not wait until the fourth quarter, right,
Not wait until the fourth quarter toto to do this. I mean,
it's it's really that's that's absurd.I've never seen I've never seen anything
(46:20):
like that before. And guards Iknow, Um, we were reading an
article from Sporting News that was talkingabout this, and you notice another piece
of information in that article, Sowe'll touch on that real quick. Uh
So, one thing that this articlementioned is that you know, maybe the
NFL should think about, uh changingthe draft into a lottery. Now me
personally, I don't I don't.I have mixed feelings on that because at
(46:45):
the end of the day, Ido believe that, you know, that
the worst team should get that numberone one pick and give them the option
to you know, to try toget trying to get the guy that they
need. You know, speaking speakingof that, you know what I mean
is that, uh Clemson Trevor TrevorLawrence, Lawrence soon to be Jaguar to
(47:13):
be And here's the I'm super happyfor y'all because I think that he's going
to be a tremendous addition to thatoffense because he's a spectacular player. Um,
So they deserved that. They deservethat because those guys tried, Like
even though they didn't have a successfulseason, those guys really played and they
(47:35):
tried to win at the very least, but it just didn't work out.
So they deserve that number successful youknow, not successful on the field,
but on fan experience. But togo and to go to your point guards.
Just like a conversation that we hadwith sam Aliko before we went on
break, the NBA has a lotteryand teams still tank there too, So
(47:59):
so does it really meant well,it really improves the competitive nature of the
game to go to a draft lotterywhen they're still taking in the NBA too.
But here's the thing is that ifif there's a one win, one
win team or two win team, you know, I don't think a six
seven win team deserves to get thatnumber one guy. They don't deserve because
(48:20):
they have people, they still havepieces that they can build upon that that
team that that only won win ortwo games, they should get that first
pick to to try to enhance theirgame play. A good thing you're trying
to do with the draft is you'retrying to make it competitive. You want
you want a league that is competitive. So if you have if the Chiefs
(48:42):
somehow won the lottery and got anumber one draft pick, do the Chiefs
really need anything else? Do theyreally need anything else? I mean they're
already this year. Now, therewas a couple of games where they skated
by, but I mean looking atthem on paper, they don't need anything.
The Jaguars they'll need some even thoughi'd love Gardner Mitschew, thank you
for your service, but Trevor Lawrenceis coming in. Make sure that locker
(49:05):
is cleaned out. But you couldtake a step back show I'm around the
facility, you know, and behis backup and his number two. Uh,
and maybe we can use you onsome gadget players like over there in
New Orleans, you know, butthat's neither here nor there for a later
day. So yeah, but youwant to keep the league competitive. If
(49:28):
those teams that are always losing staylosing and they they're getting the mister I
relevant pick, well then getting excitinganymore. Yeah, that doesn't help competitive
balance. I agree. So realquick, we have about a minute and
a half left. Since Garbs isthe resident buck Eyes man, go at
it. I'm super super excited. You know this this upcoming week weekend week
(49:52):
is going to be spectacular with theBrowns playoff in the National Championship. Uh,
you know, the buck Eyes areplaying Alabama. So I'm I'm looking
forward to it. I hope thebuck Eyes stopped them completely. I won't,
you know, mince my words onthat, you know, So go
back all right? Last word,Look, I have ties to the buck
(50:17):
Eyes. I have my former coachthat recruited me in Cincinnati, coach Tim
Hitting coaches for the buck Eys.Gary Bones was up there with the buck
Eyes. Luke Fickle Cincinnati Bearcats. The University of Cincinnati. Bearcats head coach
Luke Fickle came from Ohio State,so obviously I have tied to a house
state. But Cincinnati was rob I'mhaving a Kanye and Taylor Swift on me.
(50:39):
Cincinnati together a perfect season and wasrobbed at the playoff spot and they
had to face a Georgia team thatwas pretty good. But we should have
won that game too, And I'mjust upset. Cincinnati deserved to be in
the playoffs. I think the playoffcommittee made a mistake of I don't know
who's gonna win. I don't care. I just know Bearcats, go red,
(51:00):
go black, cheer Cincinnati. Propsto Cincinnati, though, props to
Cincinnati. Y all right, allright, real real quick last words,
Guard is that the last words goBrowns, go Buckeyes. Follow me at
Guard's infinite everywhere, all right,And since since everybody's shouting out the team,
