Gustavo de Arístegui, diplomático, destaca la complejidad del conflicto actual entre Irán, Estados Unidos e Israel. Señala que Irán mantiene un doble discurso: uno conciliador hacia Qatar, con quien comparte intereses energéticos, y otro más agresivo por parte de la Guardia Revolucionaria, que busca alimentar el nacionalismo interno tras las duras pérdidas sufridas. Los ataques iraníes con misiles balísticos fueron, según Arístegui, más simbólicos que efectivos. Estados Unidos y Qatar estaban avisados y lograron interceptarlos con sistemas Patriot, lo que demuestra que Irán buscaba evitar una escalada directa, pero necesitaba “salvar la cara”.
Arístegui insiste en que EE.UU. no quiere una guerra abierta y debe frenar a Netanyahu, quien podría intentar prolongar el conflicto por intereses políticos internos. También advierte del poder de la Guardia Revolucionaria iraní, que controla gran parte de la economía y no quiere que la guerra termine, ya que la utiliza para justificar represión y control.
Sobre la OTAN, es muy crítico con el presidente Pedro Sánchez por negarse a aumentar el gasto en defensa más allá del 2,1%. Según Arístegui, esto daña gravemente la credibilidad de España como aliado y debilita a la Alianza en un momento de máxima tensión geopolítica.
