Speaker 1 (00:01):
Nine one seven three Kadza so Outhern Colorado's classic Kids. Well,
I've got a couple of gentlemen here, and I'm gonna
say gentlemen, but a couple of gentlemen here. Zane Grant
from KLASA Pueblo, Michael Tafoya from the Colorado State Patrol.
How you guys doing today?
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Good morning?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Yeah, good to see you guys here this morning. And
it's about that time again, right, it is about that time?
What do we got going on?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Gearing up for the holidays at our organization? And if
you're unfamiliar with KASA, we work with abuse and neglected
children involved in the court system, and obviously when the
holidays come around, family stress tends to increase, and we
try to do what we can to make sure that
that children that are involved in our program have a
nice Christmas.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Right.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
And so a few years ago, Captain Tafoya came up
with a brilliant idea, I think, and approached us and
decided to help us create this event called Cram the Cruiser.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Cram the Cruiser, you know, I see you know Michael
Tafoya here, Captain Dafoya here, And you don't argue with
this guy he's packing some meat here, you know, so,
I mean whatever he wants to do is fine, right,
he takes the full lead. Yes, so cram the cruiser.
Not from what I remember the past couple of years,
you've crammed more than one cruiser, right.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Yeah, So this is actually going to be our third year. Okay,
it's been a highly successful event. I think on average,
in the last couple of years, we've you know, eighteen
twenty cruisers on average. I think it's been very successful.
I mean the community is the community support has been
overwhelming to.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Say, right, right, And so the cruiser will be parked somewhere.
Is that kind of how this is going to work?
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Or so we'll have cruisers as well as members of
the state patrol and members of KASSA in front of
all three walmarts here in public on the north side,
south side, in public West, we'll have cruisers parked in
front of there. And the ideas you go and buy
a gift into support using neglected Children of COSSA, right,
and you stuffed the cruiser with it, and then we'll
deliver the cost.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
So you've got a brand new item coming out of
Walmart that hopefully you paid for and.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
That would be the hope.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Yeah, but Constant Pueblo, as you say, man, what a
great thing for southern Colorado it is.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
And you know, this event happens on Black Friday, so
it's November twenty ninth this year, and you know, people
are already out and about doing their shopping and certainly,
you know, we have a variety of items that we need.
You know, it's not just toys. You know, a lot
of our children need warm clothing for the rest of
the winter. And we've already seen what this winner has
is bring into us.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
And it gave us already.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
That's right, that's right. We went from being warm to
to pretty brutal very quickly. And so you know, hats, gloves,
and the other thing that we always try to to
ask for is gift cards. That that helps us, you know,
kind of fill gaps. Our older teens they like to
do their own shopping. And there's there's a lesson in
there too when you're when you're trying to do some
(02:46):
money management planning, if you have a gift card, you
have to make sure that you're spending within the limit.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Of the gift cards. It's twenty dollars gift card you
only have twenty dollars.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yeah, So so it really helps us, and it's and
it's a great partnership because I really think the community
has obviously trust in our law enforcement, and so to
see the officers standing out in front, I think it's
also a great thing for the stores because they've got
some law enforcement present on a very busy and very
jam packed day for them. And obviously we benefit our families,
(03:15):
benefit the kids that we work with, benefit and so
all the way around, this has been an incredible partnership.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Well, now, as you mentioned, Black Friday is the twenty ninth,
and that's a short it's going to be a short
window between Black Friday and Christmas this year because Thanksgiving
and all that fall so late this year. If somebody
can't get to the store, or they're out of town
or whatever, can you help out financially somehow.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Or certainly certainly stopping by our offices. Sometimes people don't
have the time and they've even driven right up and
handed the troopers, you know, twenty dollars and drive off,
you know, whatever we can do to help facilitate that,
and then our staff can go and do the shopping
for what we have left on the kids list is great.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
You know, I've handed the troopers' money and then what
they want to get me for, you know, bribery or
something like that. This is nothing like that. So what's
your goal? What's your goal? Michael?
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Ultimately, our goal is just to support COSSA. I believe
in the mission of COSSA and what they do. Our
overall goal is just to support them, and you know,
to leave the community a better place than rise when
we came. I mean, Zay made a great point in that,
you know, we're ultimately out there to support the kids
of cost so they use neglected children of Costa. But
this has a far reaching, greater effect here. I mean,
this gives our members of the State Patrol an opportunity
(04:27):
to interact with a community in a way that they
don't get an interact.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
You're nice guys, Yeah, we're.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
People, right, we live in this community. We want to
make the community a better place, and we want to
give back. This also provides a community a great opportunity
to interact with us on a different level, which ultimately
then changes when we do contact you on the side
of the road, it changes to the interaction humanized. If
you will it humanizes the badge and less people see us, says,
you know, we're just people. We're out there trying to
do better. We're out there trying to improve our community
a job and doing a job and make it agother place.
(04:53):
That's right. So our job goes beyond just you know,
issuing citations or you know. We ultimately we want to
provide a safe environment for the community, safe roadways for
the motoring public. But we also want to give back
to our community in the best way that we can.
By the way, I've got this ticket in Never So
the effect of this is broad reaching. Sure, it's been
a monumental success, and not because of not because of
(05:14):
me or the state patroler. It's this community, the community publicist.
The outpouring has been overwhelming. It's a great community.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Awesome, well, gentlemen, thank you both for coming in. Thank
you and Cram the cruiser. You got a Facebook page
and some things like we do.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
There's an event right event an event page posted right
on Facebook, and you can also visit Kasso published facebook
page and you'll find the information there and we're good
to go.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Well, there you go.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
It's going to be a fun event.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Happy holidays, and you guys are making them a little
happier for folks. That's a good thing.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
We'll be out there seven am to five pm.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Oh you're gonna get up early.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Are We're going to get over there.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Let's see you guys.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Thank you,
