Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's one on one nine katie Za Pueblo's classic hits,
and I'm being invaded by dental hygienis. How you doing, ladies?

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Good Nick, How are you good?

Speaker 1 (00:09):
And your name? Introduce yourself if you would.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
My name is Linda Blasi. I'm the program director of
the dental hygiene program here at Public Community College.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Very good and you and.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
I'm Marisa Camper. I'm faculty, full time faculty and for
sure course responsible for their clinics.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Very good, very good dental hygienis program. You know, a
lot of people don't even know that there's a dental
hyghgenis program here at PCC.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
That's very true. The program has been around since nineteen
seventy eight. We have a twenty six chair clinic that's
open to the public, so anyone can come in and
have treatment done by dental hygiene students that are supervised
by licensed hygienists and dentists. So any treatment that's done
from those students is double checked and you get a

(00:55):
very very thorough cleaning.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
I might say it's more than double checked, it's probably
quadrupled checked or whatever, because yes, and I think I
mentioned it to you off the air here. My sister
in law's a dental hygienist, has been for many years,
and she says, that's probably the best teeth cleaning you
ever got. Because I went through the program not as
a hygienist. I went through as a patient and very thorough.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
I gotta say, yes, and that is very true. Like
I said, everything is checked by hygienists and the dentist
for the students. And yes, the patients get very very
good in thorough care while they're in our clinic.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
And it's priced right too.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Yes, I'm very inexpensive and affordable. So yes, it's definitely
a place to come and check things out.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Very good, very good, you know, on the things I noticed,
there's a lot of things that you don't think about
when you go through that they check in your health.
They're checking all kinds of different things every time you
go in there.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Absolutely, Yes, we start with a thorough health history, take
your blood pressure, do an oral cancer screening exam, which
a lot of times patients haven't had before.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Uh huh.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
So that's part of our normal complete care for the patient.
And they again get a very you know, unique experience
while they're there, get to know the student and the program,
and it's again, it's a very rewarding experience for all

(02:24):
that are involved.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Well, I know the young lady that did it with me,
she almost had a heart attack when I filled out
the thing of what I eat. I mean, she thought
I shouldn't be alive right now. So we do provide
nutritional accounts like, yes, she was like, how many times
do you go to McDonald's in a week? And I
wasn't making it up here, but yet you do. You
supply a lot of other information as well.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Correct. Yes, you know.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
One thing that I'd like to add in with what
Linda was saying is the cost ranges from thirty dollars
to one and ten, and so it's very affordable in
comparison to what they would pay out in a private
practice setting. Okay, and then they can keep their insurance
maybe for restorative care fillings, crowns, that kind of thing,

(03:10):
and come to the clinic and receive their cleaning at
a lower cost.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Well, that makes sense.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
That's benefit the patients that way.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Also, you know, when I first met and I'll use
their name Peyton. When I first met Peyton, she says,
Oh my god, I can't wait to tell my dad,
I found somebody with deep pockets and I thought, little
does she know about me? I do not have deep pockets. Well,
I do have deep pockets, but not the kind I
thought she was looking for at the time. The money, Yeah,
not the money deep pockets. But again, yes, very thorough

(03:42):
cleaning and you know, it takes a few days to
get it done. But I'll tell you what awesome.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
That's what we appreciate from the patients out in the community.
And we are asking for the community to be more
involved with our students. It is a struggle to find
and identify patients for their requirements to complete their education.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Because one size doesn't fit all.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Yeah, and so we are reaching out to the community
to ask for them to volunteer their time and it's
a little bit of time, and again the cost is
cheaper and they have a very thorough cleaning and great experience.
We have yet to have anyone not appreciate what we do.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Absolutely absolutely, So if somebody is interested in this, how
do they go about it? And they register online or
phone number or what's the best way to do this.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
The phone number for the main office is seven nine
five four nine three two eight six. They can schedule
a screening appointment. You would be set up with a
student at that time. We verify that the patient will
be a good fit for the program and for the
patient or for the student, and then the student from

(04:55):
there would schedule their upcoming appointments that time. The student
is responsible for that patient.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Very good. And it's a brand new facility. You have
brand little remodeled. Yeah, it's awesome, Yes, awesome.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Very nice, very nice. And you know, I think the
biggest thing, the misnomer with dental care. It's not everyone's favorite.
We understand that, but dental care is so very important
for not only the oral health in the mouth, but
also overall body health. And so we sometimes will catch
things early on and actually help that patient become healthier

(05:32):
by removing plaque and debris that's on the teeth. And
so we're finding those things and helping those patients.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
So I think the good thing to look at here
is take advantage of this program really because you're going
to get a great teeth cleaning. It's going to be
priced a lot more affordable, and as you mentioned, instead
of using all your insurance for teeth cleaning, you can
save that insurance for something else that you might.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Need, correct, Yeah, just a regular basic cleaning and private practice.
You're looking around two hundred and fifty dollars that's going
to be used out of your insurance. And if you
need a deeper cleaning, you're looking anywhere from twelve hundred
to two thousand just for that cleaning, and our cost
would not go over one hundred and ten.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
There you go, more reason to take advantage of it. Yeah,
very good. Again, the phone numbers website, whatever we need
to know.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
If somebody's interested, phone number is seven one nine five,
four nine three two eight six is at the public
Community College dental hygiene program.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
There you go make your appointment and the help out
a student. It's kind of a win win thing.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yes, it is very absolutely Thank.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
You you bet ladies, thanks for coming in.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Yes, student, it's what one nine k dza
