Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's one on one nine one seven three. Katie's Ea
Southern Colorado's classic hits. And I'm invaded with all kinds
of folks, but they're all in the giving mood. It
seems like. Here Chris Sigura from United Way, Pebble County,
United Way, how are you, sir?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
I'm doing great, Nick, Thanks for having us.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Nice to have you here. You're all dressed up. No
place to go right over here? Yes for you. Uh
you know what it's about. Time for the Thanks for
Giving Food Drive.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
It is.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
It's a season of giving and uh we kinda we
started this event a little bit last year, bring this
stuff the bus concept back and it was hugely successful
to our partners at Cooperative Care, and it's only grown
in collaboration. And so that's why you have a room
here full of people and it's a season of giving,
and we're excited about where this event is actually going.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
It's November twenty first.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Okay, We've got.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
A schedule of stops that we are going to be
at and we take a bus tour Pueblo around Pueblo,
around Pueblo to pick up food at all these locations
that we'll we'll talk about here in a little bit,
and all that food and generos goes to our friends
at Cooperative Care, and so we're excited about where that
event is going and what it does for the community.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Now we got rid of that Corey Higbee guy. So
introduce who we have here now.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yeah, we have Stephanie here with Cooperative Care who's actually
taking the reins now that Corey is left.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
And I would say that to Corey if he was
standing here. So don't think I'm dogging with Stephanie. How
are you?

Speaker 4 (01:22):
I'm good, Thank you for having us. I'm just so
excited to be partnering with United Way and you again, Nick,
and go out and serve our community. And last year
we served five hundred and fifty families and awesome the
read is before Thanksgiving, so we definitely need lots of
support from our community and lots of food.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Well there you go. I couldn't have said it better
any other way there, But and what you were saying
here with Cooperative Care, all that food stays right here
in Pueblo.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
Too, Yes, it stays right here in Publo. We have
been a local nonprofit for forty two years and we
serve all of Pablo County.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Wow, forty two years. That's old than you, Chris.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
It is barely, but yes, I really love hearing that.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Now not only are we with Cooperative Care, but there's
some other avenues of this that's going on too, right, Chris.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
That's correct.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
We got word from Karen Share here in Pueblo and
they're doing some efforts to also feed the community that
same as us, and they're.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Doing a similar drive the week that we are.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
So we partnered up because the whole goal here is
to feed as many families as we possibly can, and
so we want to help them promote their drive and
it's take your Turkey to Work Day and that they've
been doing for several years. We have Rita Fox here
with Public Care and Share as well to talk about that.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Rita, how are you.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
I'm doing well. Thank you for having us today. Yes,
we're very excited to be partnering and collaborating with United
Way Public Cooperative Cares. But on Friday, Friday, November twenty second,
we have an event called take a Turkey to Work
Day and in that we were going to be at
the King Soupers on the north side and outside of Pueblo.
So that gives people. An opportunity to drop off a

(03:03):
frozen turkey has to be frozen turkey or ham and
then we're going to turn around and distribute that out
to the public community as well.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
So that's going to stay here in Pueblo too.

Speaker 5 (03:12):
That's correct.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Awesome, awesome, So a big collaboration of a lot of
folk here. It sounds like Chris.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Yeah, it's a great collaborative effort to feed again as
many families as we possibly can. So excited about the
partnerships that are happening, the growth for the efforts. You know,
those food drives all over, but for us to be
in close collaboration with all these organizations I think is
outstanding for the community and the community.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
That we serve.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Now I'm going to be Devil's advocate here. What if
you can't get out and drop off any food? Is
there any other way to help?

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (03:44):
I think Rita and her team is leading that that effort,
and they've got kind of a QR code or a
method to do that.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
So you want to talk about that, yes, So if for.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
Some reason you can make it to Thanks for Giving
or take a turkey to work day, we will have
QR codes available you can just get it donate money,
and again that money is going to go back into
the community. It's in the form of food, right. And
the beauty of Karen Share is and when we get
a dollar, we can make that dollar really stretch far
because we have agreements in place with different food entities

(04:16):
and so for example, you know, dollars can buy four
meals for a person or for four families in the community.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
And you buy green beans by the semi loads. Is
kind of what you're looking at here. Yeah, yeah, well
this is all great and it starts on November twentieth.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Right, Yeah, So the donation efforts are going to start now.
So any of the locations you know, King Supers will, right,
you can. Are they accepting turkeys now?

Speaker 1 (04:43):
For storage?

Speaker 2 (04:44):
I don't know storage?

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Who has turkey storage? Right?

Speaker 2 (04:49):
I guess that's true.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
But as far as the dry goods, non perishables, the
stops that you can donate food for up until the
twenty first are going to be the Pulo West Safeway,
Walmart on Dylan Drive, Beryl Brothers Liquors on the south side,
the Little Caesars on Prairie, Little Caesars in Belmont, and
the Pueblo mall, so you can actually donate food and

(05:12):
non perishables from now until the twenty first. To twenty
first is when we're going to be driving the bus
to pick up that food and to give people an
opportunity to do so. And then that week Rita and
her team are going to be driving to pick up
turkeys to distribute as well. So huge effort from now
until that week to feed Pueblo.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
And it's all over southern Colorado. But all that food
gathered here in Pueblo is going.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
To stay in days here in Pueblo to feed the
needs of the Pueblo community.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Yes, well there you go that thanks for giving food.
Drive lives on is what you're saying. That's right, just
got a lot bigger Well, thank you everybody that came
in here. If you need some details, where can we go?

Speaker 3 (05:49):
I can go to the Pueblo unit Away dot org
or the Karenshare website as well.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
Karenshare dot org. And just a note side note, you
know Karen Share has been in the community for well
we're celebrating our fiftieth anniversary this year.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
So you're even older than criticism.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
I don't mean you, I just mean Karen shares overy
there me, There you go. If you need details, of course,
as he mentioned, you can also go to katizaradio dot
com or my Facebook page and get those details as well.
Thank you all for coming in today, Thanks for having
