(00:20):

(00:41):
Oh, I'm always excited when youcome on. You to me have an
incredible topic to talk about. Justgive you a little bit of information,
folks. Our first show on JenniferLee Cobb occurred on May twenty three,
or great introduction. We encourage youto go back to that show, and
we gave you a lot in thatepisode, including your back ground or information
with the St. Louis Rams andso forth. And I'm going to tell

(01:03):
you, folks, okay, thisyoung lady is determined to find a cure
for Parkinson's disease and bring awareness. And I just love Jennifer's tenacity and passion
for what she does. You tome are an absolute godsend for doing what
you're doing, Jennifer, Thanks,I need to come on here more often.

(01:25):
I'll make it happen. If youwant to come on more often,
you know how to get me.Just send me a text message and you
have an open invitation. Jen,all right, let's get to it.
I know you have some things todo with your son swim me tonight.
But I can talk faster than Indiecars or nascars can drive at Sometimes I'm
the interstate intimidator. All right. On a topic, Number one, pickleball

(01:47):
in Parkinson's Disease, punch out Parkinson'sand Muhammad Ali's first Jen, explain that
one to me, Jen, Yeah, so pickleball that because it seems to
be a very popular sport nowadays.Have you played before? No, but
I know a lot of people thathave. One of my best friends actually
broke two risks playing it, andthe doctors love it because they get paid

(02:09):
a lot of money. I'm nottrying to scary away, but I was
talking to some people over at worktoday and they say, hey, pickleball
is a physician's dream and you geta pay raise because of it. With
my track record of falling apart, getting busted up, I would probably be
advised not to. Just like skiing, that's not a good thing for me

(02:30):
to do. But I've heard plentyabout it. I know it's one of
the fastest growing sports out there. But explain to me everything behind it.
Yeah, So pickleball is kind oflike kindergarten tennis, you know, or
preschool tennis. It's pretty easy tolearn. Tennis is a really hard sport
to be competitive, and unless youplay a lot and practice a lot,

(02:51):
it's tough, especially if you havea competitive nature. So pickleball is really
a little easier to pick up andin terms of coordination and balance and to
be competitive, it's you know, pretty much the same concept as tennis,
just the courts are smaller, therules are a little different, and of

(03:13):
course the ball is you know,a little bit of a like a whiffleball
to rere light. Paddles are bigger, easier to manage. But the one
thing that pickle ball is great forwhen you're dealing with someone with Parkinson's is
it really works on hand eye coordination, balance, side to side movements for

(03:37):
the back movement, your gate, your step, and thinking before reacting,
which is really great for the cognitivepart of the brain. So UM,
it's become really popular with those withneurological issues, particularly Parkinson's, and there

(03:57):
has been quite a few people thathave taken up the sport of pick a
ball that have Parkinson's and have hada really good success um in terms of
those symptoms that I just explained.So it's it's UM. It's not just
uh an up and coming popular sportfor just someone without a neurological disorder,

(04:21):
but it's becoming even more popular withthe that general that that population of people
that are suffering with UM, youknow, UH Parkinson's, ALS, Louis
Bodies, dementia, UM, concussions, um MS. So uh you know,

(04:42):
I'm really excited to see how manyof that uh particular UM group of
people are taking up the sport ofpick a ball, just as excited to
see how many that group is takingup boxing and so UM punch out Parkinson's

(05:08):
which actually was started by a groupof scientists that looked at studying the sport
of boxing and the movements of boxing, and the first jim that they did
this study in was the Mohammed's MohammedAli's Jim in New York City. The

(05:30):
first one that he UH was atpracticing. And so what they did was
they took people who were battling Parkinson'sand did UM all of the movements that
boxing, side to side movements, bouncing off of the ropes on the side
of the ring, you know, using their voice projection every time they would

(05:54):
punch. Ah. You know, because that's the one thing that the voice
projection go down. UM, theParkinson's is affected with your voice projection,
UM, your gate, your sideto side, forward and back movement,
your balance, your reactive time, reaction time, and so UM punch out

(06:15):
Parkinson's. UM. You know thathas become really really popular UM with UM
with the the population of Parkinson's becauseUM, if you really think about those
movements very similar to pick a ball, except you don't punch. You know.
The program is actually called rock steadyand UM. And again going back

(06:40):
to what I said earlier is thesescientists UH did a huge study with people
with Parkinson's and they saw that howbeneficial the boxing movements, the sport of
boxing helped assist those that had theUM the Parkinson's. And over time,
if you're consistent with the rock Steadyprogram, UM, you're going to see

(07:05):
a lot of YMCAs or starting thisprogram. UM, they're incorporating that into
their UM other classes that they have. UM. You can actually do the
classes in a chair. You don'tnecessarily have to have you know, stand
up and do them. And sothere's a lot of different variations to the

(07:26):
rock Steady program UM. But it'sinteresting Scott because in order to do this
program, like at the YMCA's UHdifferent fitness centers, you can actually log
online. You can find these programthese classes on you know YouTube, UM,
you know different internet programs. Youactually have to go uh and be

(07:49):
UM certified. And you can actuallyget certified at the Boxing Ring gym in
New York City where it originated initially, which is where Mohammed used to practice
years and years and years ago.Is the first gym that Mohammed it started
at, and that is it's interestingbecause that's the gym where the rock Study

(08:16):
program started out of well incredible,Before I go a through further, Gen
just want to love everybody that NoLimits is being heard around the world,
So being broadcast around the world, your message is going to go everywhere.

behind the scene footing it all together. Coming up later the summer of the
Motor City Madmile Show will be debutingon the Eagle ac Court Media Studios and
Poker or tom Flora. They're ownedby doctor Edwin Hernandez. This is a
technology company based company and doctor EdwinHernanzez is going to be behind me on

(09:22):
my new book that I'm working on, Jen adjusting to new media. So
we'll keep you a post on bothdevelopment. I like the title, Oh
thank You. I guarantee you'll begetting one of the one of the first
jobs. You know what, Jen, it's one of those things where you
know you're in the I had somany ideas for books, but then this

(09:43):
one just someone. You know,it is sometimes when something just feels right
and it does and then boom, that sort it became activity in the chat
room. Jen, Okay, thereyou go. Good evening, Scott and
Jennifer, George Korn and actually he'sgonna be writing the forward in that book.
Another thing here, Rock said.He sounds like it will help a
lot of people, and that's agood thing. Well, there you go,

(10:07):
Wayne Weinstein, look at that's activityin the chat room, hang around
first conceiving. Definitely a much betterguest tonight than George and I, Oh,
this guy's being honest. He's good. He's one of my all those
kinds of things that I remember.I told you I met Muhammad Ali over
at the Allen Park gym with AngeloDundee many years ago, and he's always

(10:31):
been a favorite of mine. Ithink you've seen to pick Mmad Ali and
I so so that's pretty good stuff. And that's one of the things I
love bringing you back on is youalways find a new angle and your tenacity
and passion for this disease is offthe charts. It's a great cause,
as Kevling Andy Ebling mentioned, Soyou know I bring on a lot of

(10:52):
times. This is cute. Waynewins he better looking to Hi, Jen,
I can tell we don't have anyblind huh. Oh, they're referring
to you. I'm not better looking, you are, okay, but yeah,
and you guys are free to askme questions. I'd love to answer

(11:13):
any questions. And how many outthere play pickleball or do any kind of
boxing workouts? You know, boxingis a really amazing workout, whether you
have Parkinson's or not, just toanyone, I mean if you think of
the whole the sport in general,I mean from head to toe. You're
working. You know, reaction, your or you know, eye, hand

(11:37):
coordination, your foot movement, yourbalanced side to side, forward, back,
Um, you're you're working. Um, you know your cardio vascular you
know, constantly moving around the ring. And then gosh, talk about workout
muscularly like your shoulders, your chest, your back, your legs, your
calves, you know all of it. You're ligaments in your tendons which hold

(12:01):
the muscle to the bone, You'reyou're working areas, not just the big
muscle groups, but the little littleones, you know, and as you
get older, you know a lotof people think that, you know,
I got to use it to loseit. Absolutely, but a lot of
people they really don't like or verymuch enjoy lifting weights. But wow,

(12:24):
what a great way to get allof it in with cardio, muscular training,
tendons, ligaments, flexibility, andthe next thing you know it,
after twenty thirty minutes you're dripping wetwith sweat. You got a great workout.
You just worked all of the musclegroups in the whole body and you

(12:46):
know, flexibility, I mean allof it. So if you think of
the whole boxing, you know, from head to toe, what an amazing
all around exercise movement, whether youhave Parkinson's or whether you're just you know,
wanting a really really good workout, and it moves along with Also pick

(13:09):
a ball, but it's hard todo pickleball by yourself, but boxing,
of course, you can. Youcan shadow box. I mean, thank
goodness for the Internet nowadays. Imean you can pull up anything on the
internet on your phone. You canbe in a traveling in a hotel,
room, pull up on your phoneand you can shadow box and do you

(13:30):
know fifteen you know, ten fifteenminute workout just boxing, and what in
a great what an amazing workout justyou know, in that short amount of
time. And you can add youknow, squats or push ups or whatever.
But look at the look at thefigure of a boxer, Like these

(13:52):
guys are in really good shape. So it's a testimony to say, like,
you know, it's it's kind ofa no brainer. Anybody can do
it. You can do it inyour chair, you can do it standing
up. It doesn't take a wholelot of coordination right at the get go,
just to get into some kind ofmovement with boxing. So it's pretty

(14:15):
interesting that these scienists over years havetaken the movements of boxing and created a
wonderful way for people with neurological symptomsto be able to use this kind of
exercise program to but also keep aheadof the symptoms to degenerate yourself with the

(14:41):
disease. All right, Well, actually is brewing up in the chat room,
so here we go, Jen,All right. George korn Scott has
featured interviewing Muhammad Ali in my bookcalled Detroit Sports broadcasting on the air.
How do you like that I wasinterviewing the champ. All right, let's
go back to the chat room, and who knows that we'll get to all
the topics. We'll get to theones that are important. What's a workout?

(15:03):
All right? Marking? What's aworkout? Great show as always?
All right, George Iicorn, Herewe go. Detroit has a great boxing
tradition, which is great. Somany youth and young adults have come through
the kron program. Now I appreciateit more how it helps keep one's mind
and body. There you go,Jen. All you have to do is
get your message across to a coupleof people. Then what we've done is

(15:26):
in the eyes of Jimmy Walker, dynamite. But I won't go that late
with my voice, and I don'twant to strain its. All right,
then, Wayne Weinstein, pickleball isstuff. But because now I have nowhere
to store my pickles while I playa joker? All right, what's that
really? Okay? All right?I don't know if you know this.

(15:48):
Do you seriously know how the namepickleball got its name? And I know
a lot of people won't believe me, but this is the truth. Would
you like me to share it?Sure? Why not? Okay? So
and even google this because this isthe truth. They were two gentlemen and
they were playing outside, and theywere playing ball with each other, throwing

(16:12):
the ball back and forth and overthe years, what would happen is when
the ball wouldn't be caught, orthey had paddles, and they would throw
the toss the ball back and forthand paddle back and forth to each other,
and the ball would go you know, you would miss it and the

(16:33):
ball would roll away. Their dogpickle would go and retrieve the ball and
bring it back. And so overthe years the game was called pickle ball
because of that, the dog pickle. That is incredible. All right,
there you go. Now everybody hasa kendyambling back on your here load watching
the Rocket movie where he goes toRussia to train and he trains with nature

(16:56):
as opposed to the Russian who usedsome team. I believe a fight memory
serves me correctly, Jenneral's Rocky forright. I believe a drago in it?
Yes, right, okay, Rockyfor all right? Well, you
know what you're giving us a greatexplanation. Do you want to talk about
your Major League Baseball Cardinals for aquick second. Sure, go ahead,
as I'll just say this before weturn it over to you real quick.

(17:18):
I know you obviously don't have alot of time tonight. I want to
make sure we can't get to whatwe can. The only I'll say about
the Cardinals is this, Mark McGuiregets traded there from the Oakland A's and
he decides to sign an extension withthe Cardinals. That just goes to show
you, when you get to SaintLouis, they love you, you don't
want to go anywhere else. Sothat's my Mark McGuire reference. I'm turn
it over due. Well, Imissed the game. I did not watch.

(17:41):
I know a lot of I haveactually had a few friends that flew
to London to be present and watchthe game, but I did not watch
it. I'm sorry. I wasso busy with kids and traveling. I
didn't I didn't get my eyes onthe game. You know what, You

(18:04):
apologize too much and take that asa kind compliment. You don't have to
apologize with not then. Yeah, but they're having a tough year right now.
But I know they have stories onthe planet. I know David freeze.
I didn't want to go into theirHall of Fame. I don't know
why. That's weird. We'll savethat for another time when you have more
time to talk about it. Butnow everybody here on No Limits got a

(18:27):
pickle ball lesson and a piece ofhistory. One other thing I want to
get to you. I know youobviously have a little bit of time,
but we're thankful for what you dohave. Okay, Wayne Weinstey says,
you don't want to watch them againstthe Marlins. Well maybe not, but
I was at the July fourth gamein the Marlins fifteen spout on all right.
One other thing I want to askbefore we close out the show,
Jan Okay, what do you havewind up? And how can people reach

(18:48):
out? Well, my website iswww dot team Gateway to a Cure dot
org and foundation focuses our efforts onsupporting the caregivers. And I'm just I
just finished writing my first children's book, Chair for Care, and it will

(19:12):
be published very soon. I'm goingto have a little bit of a teaser
on the website so you can geta little tease of what the story is
about and look at the renderings. But you'll be able to buy it through
the website, and I'm going tohave it in libraries, into schools and

(19:36):
in the different bookstores. And that'sI'm getting, you know, ready to
kind of get that all lined up. But I'm really proud of this book
because what it does is it reallyheightens the awareness of how incredible and how
philanthropic younger children really are. Wedon't give them enough credit. And through

(19:59):
the amount iagination through a child's eyes, how they come up with really creative
ideas and ways to bring hope andcomfort to their loved ones that are in
the home that might be battling somethingsuch as Parkinson's or cancer or you know
mental health, or you know identityor you know depression, whatever fill in

(20:26):
the blank. But the common denominatoris looking at the younger, the youth
and how they can bring really greatcare to their loved ones that are in
the home, and how they comeup with creative ways and being a great
caregiver doesn't have to cost a lotof money. It doesn't cost it doesn't

(20:47):
have to cost any money. Youknow, most times when I sat with
my father, he just wanted tosit and talk, watch movies, um
you know, uh, play gameswith me, you know, chess uom,
sit around reminisce about growing, youknow, raising us kids, and

(21:12):
you know, the weekends when wewould go camping or fishing and like Michigan
and just what's going on in life, you know, instead of talking about
therapy and medicine and the disease andthings that are going wrong and how I
don't feel good and just all thenegativity that comes from battling whatever it is

(21:34):
filling the blank. And so asan adult child and my children and their
you know, youth, how theywere able to bring love and comfort and
hope to my dad while spending timewith them and not bringing all of that
other stuff into our time together. And so the story really looks at through

(21:59):
the eyes and agenation of a child. How she Christina, who the person
in the in the In the book, the character talks about how her creative
ways in the current relative way ofthat generation, how she goes about bringing
smile to her dad throughout the daysof his life while he's battling Parkinson's.

(22:26):
It's a really sweet story and I'mreally proud and very excited to have written
this, but also I finished itright before my dad passed away a few
months ago, and so he wasable to read the story and now I
want to push it through the finishline and get it published. All right,

(22:47):
Jenn. Before we go, though, we have to go to the
chat room. This is what thisis all about. George Iicorn says,
pickleball was started by my church groupa couple of here's going. It started
up small, but really taught on. All right, Wayne Weinstein, your
favorite favorite double double? Okay?Is what is your rational rationale behind the
foundation? I'm going to put acouple more things up and then you can

(23:10):
answer that question. BTD. Ilove children's books as I'm an elementary school
media specialist. Will continue to writeit out, and George Eicorn says,
I'm sure your dad is very probablyI'll bet he is. Take the exclamation
points. This is Chepper who wehave, Jen. And now, of
course I was going to ask youabout your rational foot foundation. But upon
hearing you talk about the book,I gathered it was for your father,

(23:32):
right, Yes it was, AndI just I want people to know that,
you know, it doesn't take anyexpense at all to bring a smile
to someone's face. And my dadwanted his dignity. He wanted his family,
his friends, he wanted laughter, and that's what he wanted toward the

(23:59):
end of his life. And justto be remembered in his legacy, to
remember the man that he truly was. And he was just an amazing guy
that always made you laugh, alwayslooked at the positive of things in life,
and was probably the hardest worker ofanyone that you'd ever meete and had

(24:23):
just a huge heart and one ofthe most kindest person that you would ever
meet. And to have this bookin memory and honor of my father is
it really brings a joy to myheart. Well, Jen, all I'm
going to tell you is I willdo everything in my power to make sure
you get all the exposures you canto bring every aspiration that you have alive

(24:47):
on this I want to plant outone last time before you go off.
