In Non-Compliant Episode 40, Host Jay Edelson, nationally recognized plaintiff’s attorney, and Founder of Edelson PC, is joined by David Lat, Founder of Above the Law, and more recently, Original Jurisdiction.

To start the show, Jay and David discuss the evolution of David’s legal career. After attending Harvard College and graduating from Yale Law School, David clerked for a federal appellate judge, spent time in Big Law as an Associate, and worked as a federal prosecutor in New Jersey. While working as a prosecutor, David started “Underneath Their Robes”, an anonymous humor and gossip site focused on federal judges, under the pseudonym, Article III Groupie (4:30).

Next, Jay and David discuss the formation of Above the Law, and the unprecedented impact it has had on the legal field (6:33).

Later in the show, Jay and David talk about David’s experience with COVID-19, and his decision to live tweet his experience, which included three weeks in the hospital, and one week on a ventilator (16:30).

To close the show, the two podcast hosts discuss David’s current projects— including Original Jurisdiction, a substack newsletter, which Lat describes as “a source of incisive, fair-minded, and occasionally entertaining commentary about law and the legal profession”, and Movers, Shakers, and Rainmakers, a new podcast, hosted by David and Lateral Link Senior Recruiter, Zach Sandberg, focused on the BigLaw lateral market.
