Cruella and My Little Pony: A New Generation

Welcome to episode seventy! This week we watched a couple of movies together, one mainly the two of us, and one because the kid wanted it (and, ok, Rich enjoyed it too.) We're talking about Cruella, relatively new to Disney Plus, and My Little Pony: A New Generation from Netflix. Let's have some fun!

Welcome to an episode of not Tobut for adults. Yay, we did
it. Excuse me, I forgothow to podcast. We didn't. Yeah,

Yeah, welcome, we're where thepodcast where we're where we do talk about
the kids things. Um, andwe haven't been very consistent lately. Well
that's what I am now, butwell I want to like commit to now.

You'll never know when an episode.I mean, the reason why like
we're even really able to be doingthis right now is because we've put ourselves
under extremely precautionary quarantine. Yeah,like someone someone got it, and then
you were like I was in thevicinity in the in the same room,

but not in close contact, right, and then we were near people who
were who had been in close contact. So we just to be sure we
all we feel everybody's fine, We'regood. Yeah, even uh, everybody's
okay, So we're good. ButI mean, we had like lots of
plans this weekend that we were goingto do, and we just decided,
you know what, Nope, let'snot, let's not. And so I

think it was kind of like aforcible forcible, forcible slow down, forced
slow down force, which is good. Yeah, and it let us talk
to you, your listener, Sorryif I clear my throat a lot.
I've just had, like the changingof the weather. Yeah, frud.

We're in the we're in the inbetween time and Tennessee weather where it's still
right now, it's like still warmoutside. It's not hot and cool.
It's cool enough to have a lightsweater in the mornings. But if you
have on that light sweater by thetime it turns, you know, eleven

noon, yeah, one, you'regoing to burn up. Yeah. So
and then in the evenings it's niceagain. Yeah, it's it's the it's
the brief period of time where youjust you can't know, you can't prepare
for the whole day. You See, in Tennessee, we have um summer
for the most part, summer summer, we have a week of autumn,

and then we have ice. Yeahright now, right now, the leaves
are falling. This is it.So we're enjoying autumn until inevitably next week
it drops below freezing. And it'sit's very rarely do we get like a
super good snow here. We didlast year. Yeah, but it's mostly
just ice and then it's just ice, ice ice ice summer. Yeah.

Yeah, so but that will befun. Anyway, You didn't come here
listen to talk about the weather.You presumably came here to listen to us
talk about the show or a movie. And we're going to talk about two
movies. Yes, again our forcedkind of slow down. We decided to
watch a couple of movies. Onethat um, I had been looking forward

(03:46):
to and really wanting to watch andwe had just not had the time,
and another that we just happened tobe sitting there while Cora was watching something
I feel like the old Um.We're also on fall break now too,
so um, I mean Core hasbeen in school. We haven't been watching

(04:08):
a lot of kids programming. Yeah, because Core has been in school and
when she gets home she wants tochill and like watch blue And we've already
talked a million times about Bluey,so we could do it. We could
talk about I mean all day.I did see um I saw talking about
Blue. Um. I did seea TikTok the other day where someone someone

(04:31):
it was like someone that stitched avideo and the first one was like has
anyone else watched this show blue It'slike it's it's it's a kid's show,
but it seems like like there's abunch of stuff in there for parents.
And then the stitch cuts in andit's this, it's this woman. She
goes, no, listen, listen, Bluie is not a kid's show.
Bluie is a parenting show, andit's just got kids stuff in it.

(04:57):
It's like it's like a Pixar movie, like it's for the grown ups.
None of us can live up tothe standards of the parenting that is involved
in Blue though. No, Andthat's depressing because also we see the parents
in Bluey fail sometimes right right,They're not perfect and we still can't quite
doing. Must we be? Anyway, Let's talk about what we watched this

(05:20):
week, starting with Cruel Well that'snot the name of that. She's called
Cruella, and I like how sheI like how she says it. She
says Cruella. Yeah. Starring EmmaStone. Amazing, She's always good on
a Disney plus. Actually, Ithink this is like a step, a

(05:43):
big I think I love Emma Stone, I think she's great. I feel
like this was a step for herI thought this is a big step a
big step up. Yeah, well, we haven't necessarily seen her in her
super dramatic roles. Yeah, we'veseen Emma Stone in a lot of the
light hearted things, and she's beenin a lot more dramatic things that we

(06:03):
just haven't been as interested in watching. Yeah. Um, but this was
a very she did really well.Yeah, she does a really good job.
She. Um here's what I thoughtwas interesting, just to kind of
like, this is spoilers. Yeah, we're gonna spoil this. We're gonna
spoil Cruella. So if you haven'tseen Kruella, it is on Disney Plus.

(06:28):
Um, and you can just skipahead to the next movie, which
you're not gonna care if we spoil, so probably not yeah, yeah,
unless you're really into the lore orsomething. So this is Cruella spoilers.
All right. So, um,this is the if it's not clear,

(06:49):
it's the origin story of Corurella deVille. Yes, and it's And it
begins by talking about, um thisit shows this like little girl and she
sort of has this thing where she'slike a genius, and she and her
mother are very into fashion and andshe has like a hard time at school

(07:09):
because she's so smart. She's sosmart, and therefore she does not conform
to the rules set before her.And so her mom is like, she
says something, and she goes,dear, your name is Estella, not
Cruella. And then it becomes thisthing where it's like, Okay, you're

(07:30):
going to school, leave Cruella athome and just take a Stella with you
to school. And so it setsup this like there are two sides to
this person. It's a dual personality, which I think is super cool.
Yeah, I love that Cruella isactually another personality of a person. It's
not she's never just been Cruella,right and well, and the thing is

(07:53):
like until well, until like yeahand so, but yeah, this is
so. This is the thing isthat something something bad happens the kit the
um they have to like leave thelittle town where they're living. She's expelled
because she's expelled, and her momgoes, Okay, we need to make

(08:13):
a stop so that I can Ijust need to ask a favor of a
friend. Which, by the way, Estella slash Cruella. Her hair is
naturally black, naturally divided in themiddle black and white. Yeah, just
that's that's an important part of thisstory is that that's how she was born

(08:33):
with half black, half white hair. Um. And so they stop at
this big manner for and the andthe mom is off talking to a very
important looking lady. Um, andEstella decides she's going to break in and
like see what all's going on,because there's a fashion show going on and
she's very into that. And soshe comes in and causes a huge,

(08:58):
a huge mess, a big ohat the party and they and uh,
and she has to make a runfor it, and she's actually like chased
by these Damatians who are like thepetrifying Dalmatians. They're very angry and very
mean looking Damatians. Um. Andso she has to run and while she's
running away, they they sort ofbreak off from her and they see her

(09:20):
mom with this like regal looking ladyand they run over. They run past
her to her mom and knock hermom over a cliff and that's the end
of a Stella Cruella's mom Um.And so she says, and so I
did the only thing I knew howto do. I ran ummis her voice,

(09:43):
her hobty British accent, and thisis really really good um, and
so she runs to lunch. Shemakes her way to London and becomes like
a street urchin slash underground Ris andJasper Horris and Jasper. She rented a
little children. Yes, they're justkids. Now they're what probably ten or

(10:07):
this the the Wikipedia page. Shesays she's twelve at this spot. Twelve
Okay, she's uh, she lookedyounger to me, but that makes sense.
We have to also mention that whenshe was in like her prep school,
she made friends with Anita Darling Yeaas a child and like she would
like protected her from Estella protected Anitafrom a lot of stuff, and that

(10:33):
a lot of times would get herin trouble because she would fight the mean
boys. Right. So, um, so so they're they become this like
uh, this little sort of likeOliver Twist style gang of of of thieve
children and grow up together and they'relike a little family, right and um,

(10:54):
like ten years later where it's kindof like, um, and that's
how we grew up. We grewup stealing things that we needed and then
later stealing things that we just wanted. Yeah, and sort of her role
in the gang was to make theirdisguises because she was such a good clothing
designer. Right, I'm going tokind of YadA YadA for it a little

(11:15):
bit because because Jasper gets is itJasper? Yeah, Jasper gets a stella
an interview at this like really nice, posh clothing store, not an interview.
He gets her the jobs, right, he gets to the job,
he just drops her accepted resume inthe in the resume button. That's right.

(11:35):
There's like a little a little sceneof him breaking in and doing that.
Yeah. And so she gets thisjob, and she goes in and
she's just like a cleaning lady atthis department at this clothing store. But
she's constantly trying to impress the manager. And the manager is a very snooty
guy. This is all set inlike the sixties and seventies, by the

(11:56):
way, just for the for context. And so he's he's very snooty,
very snoody. And finally one nightshe's staying late and cleaning and just decides
she's gonna like break into his liquorcabinet and and she's gonna get a little
bit slashed. And then she likewanders into a window display and goes,
oh this this looks so bad.So dreadful and like stays up all night

(12:18):
and like a drunken stupor redesigning thiswindow display. And when she wakes up
in the morning, it's like avery fashion forward thing. And the baroness
who's in charge of the of thestore, and shocking is who who would
have seen? This? Is onething this movie doesn't do well. It
doesn't hide it in no way hideslike what sort of the next we're not

(12:45):
we're not surprised to learn the nextthing that that is a shot. So
it turns out that there is abaroness who's who's like over this store and
she's the fancy lady. But sheshe's the fancy lady from the beginning that
was talking to that was talking tothe mom when mom got knocked off the
cliff, right, But we're notsupposed to really know that, but we

(13:05):
do. The movie doesn't. Themovie doesn't try to hide, like right
when when we see the face,when we see the fancy lady, she
turned but she's blurry, you can'tsee her. And then and then here
is Emma Thompson and you're like,oh, okay, she must be the
she's the fancy lady. Yeah,the baroness. Also, yeah, she's

(13:28):
like the designer for this, forthis shop, Emma Thompson. And what
I loved about Emma Thompson in thisrole is that she is extremely fashionable.
She's got the heels, she's gotthe dresses, she's got the makeup,
her hair's all done like and Ifeel like that's not a usual Emma Thompson

(13:52):
type role. I feel like sheplays a lot more quirky characters. I'm
thinking, you know, like professor, I can never say trelawnee, Nannie
McPhee, Nanny McPhee. I'm alsothinking like um um her in um the
the Will Ferrell Stranger than Fiction,Sure, you know where she's the author.

(14:16):
She always kind of plays I feellike, quirky kind of characters that
but in this one she's she isfashionable and she is evil and I felt
like that was new for me tosee. I feel like, yeah,

(14:37):
for sure, she does very well. She's a great job um. And
so she's like this very yeah,she's this very haughty, very regalis regal
British lady. And she sees thewindow display and she loves it and she's
like, you do you work herein the in the Manor's like, no,
of course not. She's fired.And they're like, okay, well

(14:58):
you're hired over at my place.And so they give her a job on
the spot at her like design factoryfactory house thing. Yeah. And there's
a funny moment where they give her, like give her a card and she
gets she takes a card, andher like assistant is like, Emma Thompson's
assistant is like, be there atfive o'clock tomorrow, five am, five

(15:20):
am, Monday, and she's like, okay, I'll be there, and
so she she shows up at fiveo'clock on Monday and she goes inside and
clearly already for many hours already workhas been happening at this place. She
walked it and I was like,wow, wow, there are people here
at five am. And then we'relike, whoa, no, they're in
the middle of it, been peoplehere since five am the day before.

(15:45):
It's like so um. So shecomes on and it's the beginning of of
like the winter design season, andso she's like all right, everyone give
me looks and make it work.Yeah, make it work. And and
she designs. She's very good,and Emma Thompson likes her a lot yep,

(16:06):
right, YadA YadA forward and uhwe we more and more are finding
out like in the story, likeall right, now here's another thing confirming,
like the thing that you guessed whenyou saw Emma Thompson on the screen
um, which is like okay,now here, here's another thing. It's
like, oh, okay, she'sthis person. She sees that she's got
this family heirloom necklace that was Estella, was given to Estella but she lost

(16:30):
at that party, and she's like, oh, yeah, this is mine.
My husband gave me this UM andso it's like that's confusing. Why
why does why does she think it'sit's her family? Like is she lying
that she really? Is it reallyhers? Is? There's some connection here?
And it was at this point thatNatalie and I were like, okay,
one of two things is true here. Yeah um. Either um Estella

(16:56):
is like the illegitimate child or grandchildor something of of the baron and the
baroness, like like the baron steppedout with with like this with an employee
or something and had an illegitimate childand she is related to this royalty or
um or she's like legitimately the granddaughterand like the daughter ran away with her,

(17:19):
um, and and so that atthat point, we're like, we're
locked in. It's gonna be it'sgonna be something like that. It's gonna
one of those things. Um.And we weren't far off, actually,
farn't weren't farn't far So at thispoint Estella decides, I'm going to wreck
this lady instead of well, shefinds she finds out kind of like a

(17:42):
truth about her, which is likethat she ru she ruined the life of
who she thought was her mother,right well, and yeah, she she
did that and then shell so likethere comes a point where, um,

(18:03):
she's got these same Dalmatians, thesame Dalmatians like ten years later, old
old and very hearty dalmatians, verymean. Um. At one point she
blows, she blows this dog whistleto like summon the dogs, and that
flashes back and a Stella remembers thesound of that high pitched dog whistle,
and she realizes that not only didshe like mess like mess up her whole

(18:27):
childhood and her mother's like the womanwho raised her her life, but also
she like summoned the dogs. Itwasn't that the dogs were chasing a Stella
and like got distracted and went overand killed this other person. It's that
they were specifically summoned by the Baronessto knock her off of the cliff.

(18:47):
Yeah. Um, and so yeah, and so it's a and so finally
Estella's like, okay, I'm donehere, like I'm we're we're going to
ruin this lady. I'm going toget what's mine. And then she turns
into Cruella. But to do that, she must become Cruella. And so
she sets a Stella aside and Cruellatakes over. And Cruella is a lot
like the Baroness. Cruella is crazy. There's a thing that there's a thing

(19:11):
that she's fabulous. Um, Nataliepointed out. And I had been I
had actually been thinking this, umfrom from for most of the movie.
There's this really good like, um, there's this really good scene. Um
it's not I guess it's a montagekind of there's a sort of montage scene

(19:32):
of like Cruela coming onto the fashionscene and sort of showing up the Baroness.
So she's very, like I saidbefore, like super fashion forward and
very like very sort of like,um, what's the word. It's like
I want guard kind of um,and so everything the proud you know that,
thank you, And so the Baronesswill like keep trying to have these
shows and then the Cruella will messit up or crash it or something and

(19:56):
do something way over the top ofshow, upstage her completely, and Natalie
goes at one point she goes,I feel like this is Disney's The Joker,
and I was like, yes,one hundred percent. I've been thinking
that for a while now it is. She goes through very much the same
kind of thing where it's like I'mnuts and I'm leaning into it right like
right, and we even say bythe end because they because they clash several

(20:21):
times throughout the rest of the movie. Um. What's funny is that these
characters are actually two very similar characters, the Baroness and Cruella, And the
difference between them is that the Baronessis evil and knows it, and Kruella
is crazy and knows it. LikeKruella isn't pure evil even like that's and
that's one thing that she can't bepure evil because she has she has fondness

(20:45):
and love in her heart for thewoman that raised her and for Horace and
Jasper who help her through everything,and even and even Anita, like oh
yes, yes, because Anita comesback around. We had like Anita is
in the story as like reporter whouh and we and we also see the

(21:07):
er Roger. We see Roger two. He's he's a lawyer. He's a
lawyer. He's like the baroness's lawyeruntil he gets fired and then he's kind
of out of the story. It'sjust a fun little little things like that,
here's this person, here's Roger.Here's here's why she hates Stalmatians,
Like here's why, um, here'swhy Horace and Jasper just follow her when

(21:29):
there's quite Um, there's a bitof conflict because Horace will just follow Jasper
is uh um a lot smarter.He's like trying to help Estella, and
when Estella gets put aside, he'snot as into Cruella as But then when

(21:52):
um they get captured and um takenprisoner. Uh I mean they get captured
and taking a jail. Um,she like comes and breaks them out of
jail. And after that point he'sjust like, this is who she is.
Now we're going to follow her becausewe're family. He's still like he's

(22:15):
still not a huge fan of Cruela, right, but he is, like,
but he does like still see Estellaat that point because it's like it's
like he realizes, Okay, becauseKruella acts like for when Cruella is talking
to Jasper and Horace, she's alot like from the cartoon. She's mean
and she treats them like henchmen.Yeah, but then like when the cards
are all down, she still isgoing to come and get them because they're

(22:37):
because they're a unit, and shecalls them like her family. She needs
them, she says, she needsthem, which I liked that. Um.
I liked that even in her Cruellapersona, she has fondness for these
people that she grew up with andshe's not going to treat them well all

(23:00):
the time, right, and she'scrazy and um like, they're not going
to be satisfied with some of thethings she does, but they're in it
together. By the way, thereason Jasper and Horace could have jail is
nuts. Also, the baroness breaksinto their house after one after after realizing

(23:22):
that Cruella and Estella are the same. Yeah, she tracks them down and
her and a bunch of her likethugs come to their place and they're like,
well, She's like, I'm they'regoing to be arrested. And Carol's
like, well, why that doesn'tmake sense for your murder of course.
And so the idea is that Jasperand Horace were supposed to be like street

(23:47):
thugs and they burned down Cruella's apartmentand Krella was inside, yeah, and
that she was supposed to have died. Yeah, and she's She's like,
I'll let the press know, andI've already called the police and all this
stuff. And so the press allthink in London thing that Carola's gone,
and they like people like Cruella.People think Carola is cool. Um,

(24:07):
and so she um, and soshe kind of goes away. She gets
oh, she gets rescue. Iwomen talked about Mark Strong yet no he's
I mean he's a part of themovie from the beginning. He when she's
a little girl and she breaks intothe fashion show, Um, he sees
her, grabs her, sees herhair and immediately puts a hat on her

(24:32):
and goes like and says like youcan't be here, you can't like and
starts trying to get her out ofthe house. She breaks free, and
that's when she runs away and seesthat her who she thinks as her mom,
gets pushed off the cliff. Allthat. So Mark Strong is is
like the Baroness's valet, her personalassistant. Yeah and um yeah, so

(24:56):
he ends up rescue you weighing Cruellafrom her burning apartment. Um. And
then he's the one that tells herthe big news, the big news which
we all sort of guessed already,which is that Cruella is actually the Baroness's
daughter. Yeah. We kind ofwe were thinking more of like granddaughter just

(25:21):
because there's it felt like an oddage difference. Yeah. Um, but
we were thinking granddaughter. It wasactually daughter, um, and a legitimate
daughter with the baron and everything.There wasn't any illegitimacy going on. So
the baroness, there's a flashback,the baroness has this baby and gives the

(25:44):
baby to Mark Strong is like andthe baby has white and black hair,
and and is like, get ridof her. Yeah, I don't,
like, I don't need this inmy life. Yeah. And he's supposed
to supposed to have supposed of thebaby. So what he did was find
a cleaning lady in the house whichis which is the woman who Estella thinks

(26:04):
as her mom and gave her toher and said run, like take the
baby and run. Um. Andso that's why that's that's how that all
went down. And that's why thewhite and black hair is important. Is
that is that that's a recognizable thing, right only for him and for the

(26:26):
people that knew that she was thebaroness's daughter, like the baroness, right,
the baroness knew, he knew,and the lady that raised her new.
So they were always trying to kindof cover her hair. Yeah,
so there's a point, there's apoint when Cruella first came on the scene
where she's wearing her black and whitehair openly and because she we didn't mentioned

(26:47):
it, but she dyes her hairfor like as Estella, she dyes her
hair red. Yeah, but she'swearing her black and white hair openly,
and um and Mark and Mark Strongand Emma Thompson like do you think that
could be? No, can't be, but what must be a coincidence?
Another another another? Well then andby it doesn't take them long because then

(27:12):
the Baroness is talking to him andgo and says like so when I said
dispose of or take care of?Yeah, she said like take care of
this. Yeah, you didn't understandwhat I was saying. He was like,
well, I thought you meant takecare of her. Yeah. Well,
but the thing is like he doesn'tkind of dumbly like he knew what

(27:33):
she meant, right, but hegoes, what do you mean Surely you
couldn't have expected me to know youmeant kill your only firstborn baby. And
then she and then she was like, I guess we didn't know each other
well enough or something. I mean, she's pure evil. Yeah. Um
so blah blah blah. I feellike we're talking about this a lot.
Well, we're spoiling the movie alot. We're spoiling so you should watch

(27:55):
the movie. Yeah, but we'retelling you everything that happens because it's good.
It's fun, it's really good.So anyway, there's a there's a
final um confrontation. Yeah, umCorella. Corella comes back because she was
saved. She comes back and shecrashes this final like big it's a whole
thing, this big party back outat the big Manor house where her mom

(28:18):
died, and she sets up thiswhole thing where she's going to confront the
Baroness on this on the same likeprecipice that her mom was at, and
she knows that the Baroness is goingto try and kill her, and so
she she she makes it aware.And by the way, she sends black
and white wigs to all the femaleinvitees of this party, which is pretty
hilarious. It's pretty good. Um, and so like it looks like Couela

(28:41):
is there everywhere you turn. Um, So she's outside and they like,
the Baroness would like you to joinher outside on the veranda and like,
so the whole party comes outside,but far enough away that they can't see,
and the Baroness does order her dogsagain to push. No, no,
she doesn't, that's right. Shepushes. She pushes her off of

(29:02):
the cliff, which Kruella was expecting, right, and now we see as
a stella, right, so shehairing, Yeah, she's a Stella.
She's there. All of the partyguests are seeing this, and what they
see is the Baroness just pushed oneof her employees off of a cliff,

(29:25):
right, and so she's taken intocustody. Astella actually has on like a
parachute, which actually was Yeah,we're gonna talk about some like corny things,
but this is one of them.That section was super cgi looking,
and I feel like they could havedone better. Yeah that that felt like

(29:45):
a Okay, she's fine, we'lljust throw away this scene really quickly.
She she's in a parachute and shelands in the water. But like you
could tell, no, like thatactress didn't do any of that, which
I mean, I'm not saying sheshould have jumped off a cliff in a
parachute to get a perfect shot orwhatever, but it didn't look real.

(30:07):
Yeah, yeah, that part Iwas just like me. So the Baroness
is arrested. Baroness is arrested.There's dozens of witnesses that saw her do
this thing, so she can't getout of it. Um And and then
it turns out that Estella, therightful heir to the Baroness's estate, who
is now dead in the public's eyes, had a last will and testament and

(30:33):
left everything to Cruella de Ville,and she picks up the name Deville.
This is another corny thing. Fromthe car from the car, like they
they swiped the one of the Baroness'scars and it's Coope deville and and they're
like, oh, it's a deville. Huh. She's like, I like
that, and so that just becomesher name. Um so. Yeah,
So she inherits this this fortune andeverything and gets to go on being and

(30:57):
then changes the name. At thefront it was called Hellaman Hall and now
and she took the m a noff and now it's hell Hall um so.
And then like they just lock themto their mansion and look around,
and Jesser was like, what's next, and she goes, I've got some

(31:17):
ideas. Roll credits. Um So, it's a good one. This is
this is a fun movie. It'sgood. She does another thing. Another
thing I really do enjoy about thisparticular movie is that she does capture those
three Dalmatians that killed her mother,and she ends up like being able to

(31:44):
command them herself. Um and butthere's a point where she crashes one of
the parties and is wearing a Dalmatiancoat or a coat that looks like and
the baroness says, she killed mydogs and made a coat, and we're
to think, oh, no,she went way too far off the deep

(32:07):
end, and then it turns outshe just did it. She didn't kill
the dogs. Well, even beforethat, the scene before that is like
she's talking to Jasper and she's like, they would make a beautiful coat and
he's like, what are you talking. No, you can't make a coat
out of dogs. You can't dothat. And she's like, I'm just
joking, but like there's this twinklein her eye like and that wouldn't happen.

(32:29):
And then the next scene she's wearingthe coat. Yeah, and you're
but but then I mean, butthen the dogs if we're to yeah,
but but then the dogs come backand she and they're actually like a part
of her, like little pet.She's they've got dogs. Dogs are a
big part of this movie. Um, but it doesn't that right there doesn't

(32:52):
particularly flow into then we have onehundred and one Damatians well, which Kruella
is actually trying to kill Dalmatian puppies. So here's here's what I here's what
I was thinking about, and andI guess we haven't I haven't watched one
hundred one Damatians in a while.Um so I did not too long ago.

(33:15):
Okay, I was wondering if thiswasn't supposed to be like both an
origin story and also like an alternateretelling of like, no, the details
are wrong. This is like,yes, Roger was there, Anita was
there, and there were Damatians involved, but she didn't steal Dimasians from Roger

and Anita. She stole the Dominatiansfrom this person and there were only three
of them. Like I was wonderingif this is supposed to be like a
real life retelling of the story,because what dog would have one hundred ninety
nine puppies? Well, but youremember from the but you remember from the
movie. They have like a litterof like thirteen puppies and then the rest
are just like she had gathered alreadya bunch of Damatian puppies and then they

and then Michael McKean was Argyle Starshine, who is Sonny's father at the beginning,

and he goes away. So ifyou know those names, great.
The ones that we know are FanessaHudgens, James Marsden, Jankerkowsky, Ken
Jong Um. So the movie starts, and I'm not gonna we're not gonna
do the full scene by scene withthis one, right, but the movie
starts with like a version of animationthat looks similar to what the current like

My Little Ponies show looks like withthe with with the My Little Pony characters
that are currently on the show.Yeah, we're gonna go do this and
that, blah blah blah, andthen suddenly they start like I'm gonna attack
you, and they start finding eachother and you realize that we're in the
imagination of Sonny, and we popout and she's like playing with these little
figurines with her friends. But thething is, for some reason that no

one knows the earth ponies who arewhich is another word for which is another
word for regular horses. They're justhorses. This is what they this is
what the people call the one.The ponies that don't have horns nor wings
are earth ponies, yes, umthere for what a reason? They think

that unicorns and pegasie are evil andmean and don't like them, and so
they like they're scared of they're scaredof them, they're scared of the of
the flying, and they're scared ofthe magic that comes from these sparklier pony
versions. But Sonny and her dadbelieve that, well, that's not true.

We were all friends once and wecould be again if we would just
try. That's basically the whole idea, And no one really accepts that.
No one thinks that that's okay.And she grows up that way like it's
she goes from a little kid togrown up And anyway, we're gonna I'm
gonna quick YadA YadA through through thisone. A what nothing? Go ahead?

What were you going to say?Someone? No? Go ahead?
Are you sure? Okay? Aunicorn comes to town and everyone's scared of
her, but she's nice and theyand they're basically like she's like, Sonny
goes, okay, well can youshow me how to use magic? And
she says, we don't have magicanymore? Used to what we don't anymore?
And basically what comes to light throughdealing with her and sort of running

away from the earth Ponies who wantto try and capture her. They end
up going on this big quest acrosslike the world, and it turns out
that not only do the unicorns nothave magic anymore, but also the Pegasi
can't fly anymore. So we findout that the earth Ponies were raised to
think that the Unicorns and the Pegasiare evil, but each of those thought

the other two was evil. Sothe Unicorns think that the earth Ponies and
the Pegasi are evil, and thePegas, I think the Unicorns and the
earth pony they all were led tobelieve that the two other factions of pony
was did not like them, right, Yeah, And so so a little

band comes together. We've got acouple of Earth ponies. We've got Sonny
and was Marsden's character are there,and we've got a couple of Pegasi,
and we've got a couple of unicorns. And and so they find out that
there are these crystals that used togo together for the for the pegasion and
the unicorns. They can see thatthese crystals, like there's pictures of them,

(44:15):
and they can like, okay,they fit together. And so they
they're like, it must be thatthere must be magic involved in these crystals,
and they got separated, and weneed to if we can put them
together, then the magic will comeback. And so they've gone a bit
of a quest to go find thesecrystals. They find the crystals and they
put together on what No, itdidn't work. And this is the point
when Kora got very upset. Shewas like, I thought that they were

(44:39):
gonna have their magic back. AndI was like, Babe, they're gonna
have their magic. Don't worry.She goes, how do you know us,
like because the magic is friendship,and she's like, no, it's
not, it's the crystals. AndI was like, babe, literally the
name of the show is that youwatch with my little ponies. My little
pony Friendship is magic. That's thename of the show. And in that

(45:00):
show, the magic is powered byfriendship, and so that's what they're going
to be, okay, when theyrealize they're all friends and so anyway,
they discover that, oh, there'san Earth Pony crystal missing, and so
they think that that must be whatthey need to get together to make it
work. And nope, that doesn'twork either. And Ken John's characters like
tearing apart there. They're like lighthousethat she lives in where she's trying to

make all this happen, and thatdoesn't work either. Why not because the
magic is friendship And they realize thatabout that time, they realize the way
to get the crystals together is forall of us to come together, and
that's what's all about, and therewe can all be friends. And they
kind of had this moment of feelinggood and then the crystals glow and come

together and everyone gets their magic andpowers back, except for the Earth Ponies
who never had anything. That's thething. So this is the thing that
I had the issue with. So, so Sonny is an Earth Pony.
Yeah, I think when the crystalskind of glow, I guess the crystals

knew who the most worthy of allthe ponies was. I don't know how.
How did they know that? Theydon't know. But the crystals start
doing this like circular thing around Sonny, and Sonny's kind of taken up,
and suddenly she sprouts wings and ahorn. Yeah, so she's not an
Earth pony anymore. She is aPegasie unicorn, Pegasus Unicorn, Unicorn,
Pegasus Pegicorn. She's a pony,Pegasus Unicorn. She's all of them.

(46:30):
She is what you called the Avatar'sthe avatar. She's the pony avatar.
She has all of the things.And then the Pegasie their wings kind of
come out and they're able to flynow, and they're flying around, and
the Unicorns their horns start to glowand they're able to do magic with their

(46:50):
horns. Oh it's I knew thatit would be in here. I had
to look at real quick. It'scalled them Alicorn, and Alicorn is a
Pegasus, and the Unicorn combination andal Corn go on, and I'm like,
what do the earth ponies get?Nothing? They get friendship, They
get the friendship of these other morepowerful ponies the other but everybody gets friendship,

some of them get friendship and flying, some of them get friendship in
magic, and the Earth Ponies getfriendship, friendship and friendship well, and
the the avatar gets to come fromamong them. I guess like they they

all of them. She's she's theavatar, she's the avatar, she's all
of them. But she's not anEarth pony. I mean, you can't

uh, you gotta have the ponypart every Yeah, they without the
pony part, you're you're just warnand so that and so that's the part,
that's the part of reality. Partis that they are the pony.

have the best part. They havethe most important part, which is which
is well, which is friendship firstof all, and also which is pony.

We've always been pony. That is. That is one thing that So
there's two things that I wish wecould learn from this movie. One we
do learn one thing, and that'sthat friendship is magic. We knew that

the kind of person I am.I do wish I understood, like what
the ponies feel like they got outof out of the final thing? Right,
um, because everyone's happy that Noseriously, but I mean yes,
everyone's super happy at the end likeyes, we did it. And the

Earth Ponies are like, we didit. We also did it. We
will bring the ponies. We helpedyou get flying and we helped you get
magic, and we'll just you'll juststay here. We're so happy. Um.
So I wish I understood what theEarth Ponies felt they got out of
it. And I also wish becausethey don't go into this why how did

this happen? How did they becomenot friends anymore. And how many years
in the future are we from MyLittle Pony? Well, oh right,
because because in og My Little Ponywe have we have these characters. We
have Pegasie and unicorns and earth ponies, and they're all friendship friendships, they're

all friendships. They're all ponies,and they're all friendship, they're all pony,
they're all they're all together and they'rehappy. So this is called the
New Generation, which means this isin the future. And she has figurines
of the my Little Ponies we know, so like those are real people from

they broke up, they don't explainwhy they broke up at all, I
don't think. So, okay,maybe you should read the plot Summaria.

this, just the whole scenario remindedme a lot of Trolls World Tour.
Yeah, the strings and all thedifferent factions of the trolls and then trying
to get the poppies, trying toget all the trolls to be friends and
gather all the strings together. Andthat's what kind of popped into my head,

except instead of like seven, likehow many five or seven different types
of trolls, there's really only threetypes of pony. But it reminded me
of that for sure. Yes,I thought that too the first time.

I saw part of this the otherday with Cora, and then we watched
it. I don't think she watchedthe whole thing the other day, So
this is the first time we watchedall the way through, and I was
thinking that. I was like,I wonder if there's a moment that's where
we learned that the earth Ponies arereally the root cause of all the problem,
Like we learned that the poptrolls arethe are really the they were the
problem right way back when, andthen they have to be the ones to

fix it. Like maybe that's thething. Yeah, but that's did you
find anything, Nope about why theydivided. Here's what it says. I'm
just gonna read the first part.It says an earth ponytown of Maritime Bay
mayor Argyle star Shine teaches his daughterSonny star Scout the tales of old Equestria
when earth ponies, Pegasy and Unicornslived together. Most other earth Ponies believe

these are fairy tales and have grownup in fear of other pony races.
Sonny hopes that the three races canbe friends. Okay, so this is
super. This has to be superin the future. Yeah, but it
doesn't history, but not so farin the future that there can't be accurate
figuring depictions of the my little poniesthat we know. Well, everybody grew

up thinking. So I guess thehistory was lost. Yeah, but don't
you want to know what happened toTwilight Sparkle very much? I'm not.
I want to know what happened.I want to know what happened to Rainbow
Dash, why and why there's nowanother Pegasus that looks just like her.

Um. Okay, so this isactually also a really fun movie. It
is. It was fun to watch. It's not like it's not it's not
a Pixar movie. It's not gonnamake you cry or anything, but it's
fun. It's very well animated.You know what's going to happen. You
know what's going to happen the wholetime, but you still are okay with
watching it, um, if youhave to, if you must. There

have been some people who think thatNetflix with this one is trying to do
like a woke thing for kids becausepolitical because there's a there's a thing about
Um maybe I missed it, butI saw some one say something about like
with I think the Pegasie that likethe people who don't believe that magic is

real, like are somehow equated tolike science deniers and the real life anti
science, and how like there's likeand how like everyone talking about the Basically,
it's like everyone who doesn't believe thatthat they can all be friends and

Netflix decided, here's what we're gonnado. Finally, they they tapped their
fingers together and went, here's whatwe're going to do. We're going to
introduce children to fake news. We'regoing to introduce children to anti science.

We're going to show how science andthe church can't get along. And we're
gonna do that with the Unicorn todo it with unicorns, Pegasi and regular
and also pony. So that's whatpeople think Netflix did. Some people do
think something along those lines. Listen, I wouldn't put it passed. Some

people to go like, okay,I would love to further my agenda.
This is the most power I have. I'm going to put it in my
little pony generation. But also everybodyjust needs to chill out. Palm down.

traditional animation to creepily anthropomorphized digitally animated. What oh, the animation was really

but like, come on, Um, it hasn't made a lot of money,

did with it and what I thinkwas really cool and what most again,
I always found myself like opposed tomost Star Wars fans. But what a
lot of Star Wars fans are nothappy about that. I think it's really

there's Jedi, there's Sith. Gogo do whatever you want with that.
They didn't say like you have torespect Cannon. You don't have to.

You don't have to have doesn't haveto fit into the story anywhere.

these nine stories actually exists in theStar Wars canon. They're just cool,
fun Star Wars stories, and andthey're most and they're all very cool.

the Star Wars canon because like theyintroduced some new fun lore. Um.

like this overstylised like Japanese style,like the anime style doesn't really fit
with Star Wars. And there's peoplegoing back to you, well, first
of all, excuse me, whoare you? Yeah? First of all,

who are you? And second ofall, George Lucas is on record
saying that his h that Star Wars, which was originally inspired by Kirosawa films
and like and like the Magnificent likenot Magic seven Samurai, which is what

all of that is based on Japaneseculture. He took so much from jab

from so many cues from that style, and then people are like, I
