All right, welcome to not superfor adults, I will say, welcome
back. It's not super for adults. But so you guys are so this
you guys heard us last week, but that was an episode we've kept in
our pocket for Erle. That wasknow, we planned to do these back

(00:36):
to back, and we did froma recording sense, but in another more
real sense, we did them acouple of months apart. So right now
this is actually us recording for thefirst time in a couple of months in
the new year. We've had holidays, we've had family, we've had snow

(01:00):
and ice, we've had illness. We got the VID, all three of
us, and we're yeah, we'retotally fine. It's very odd to me
how different it is in every person. Um. But we I mean,

(01:23):
we don't have to go into that, but it's just I mean, we
were we were, thank goodness, very mild cases. Yeah. Um,
I guess Cora probably had the highesttemperature out of us. But she runs
high. So I've always said thatabout it. She just she's a high
runner. She just runs high.Um. So we are on the tail

(01:45):
end of all of those things, except it's like supposed to snow again.
Tomorrow. Well, yeah, butlike snow. Yeah, I think you
guys know we live in middle Tennessee. Yeah, so we don't. We
never know when they say it's usto know if that means it's just going
to rain ice from the sky, which it does, or if it's going

(02:07):
to be six inches of the fluffywhite stuff. And we just sit back
and hoard our bread and milk andjust see what happens. Speaking of which,
we need to go to the grocerystore. Yeah, we don't have
bread or milk. Yeah, andnot like from an emergency standpoint, it's
just that we're out of groceries. We have been I've been working, but

(02:32):
then we've also been sick. Sowe've been out of work and out of
society for a week and essentials arerunning low. They are speaking of that.
I saw on Facebook. I sawthis. I saw this picture and
it said snowfall in Tennessee or somethinglike that. And then oil on canvas

(02:57):
like it's the name of a painting, and then the painting is what looks
like an oil painting of a loafof bread, a picture of milk,
and a roll of toilet paper. That's what happens. Yeah, also because
we are getting over the virus alittle bit. I just want to make
everyone aware every now and again,I may have to turn my head and
cough. Yeah, but not inthat weird not in a weird way and

(03:22):
a totally normal, clear your throat, Yeah, getting over a sickness kind
of way. Yeah. Well, this is uh, this is a podcast
where we talk about if you're justjoining us because we've been on a break,
if you've never been before and you'relike, this seems like a brand
new podcast. So we review mediathat's been made for mainly children, but

(03:44):
sometimes we go into more family stuffand that's sort of what we're in the
middle of nowhere. We're doing atwo parter on the Jamani movies. We
started again two months ago. Werecorded in an episode about the og Jamanjie.
We talked about the sequels, butwe didn't really get into the sequels.
We just kind of talked generally aboutthem. Right, So today we

(04:06):
are going to talk about the twoDwayne the Rock Johnson sequels, as well
as a lesser known a spiritual sequel. Yes, a spiritual sequel. I
like that that people. I don'tthink anybody would normally say was in the

(04:27):
Jamungi verse. But absolutely its likein the Jamungji verse. So let's start
with the sequels. Let's start withthe sequels. Okay. So the original
Jumanji came out in like nineteen ninetyfour or stuff like that. Oh no,
it's been two months. I don'teven remember what we talked about.

(04:48):
The official second Jamanji movie came outin twenty seventeen, Jumanji Welcome to the
Jungle. And I was very excitedab about this one. I have.
I grew up with Jimungie, lovedJimungie, was really excited about the remake.
And then I watched it and Iwas not disappointed, sort of like,

(05:16):
wait, was not good, andI was not disappointed. I mean,
the thing is is that if yougo into it thinking it's a remake
of the original, it's just notright. Um, but it is us
true. It's a sequel and itis. I very much enjoy this one,

(05:39):
and I enjoy the third one,the third installment of the Jimungjie movies.
Yeah. Um, so we startwith First off, we start with
the Jimungie game is on a beachsomewhere. It has floated up on a

(06:00):
beach. So when we last sawthe Jamunji game that, um, little
baby Robin Williams and little baby BonnieHunt threw it into the river, right,
but they had attached like stones andstuff to it, right right,
So I would like to know howit got on pretty far up on a
beach, um next to like anocean. Is this is this the same

(06:27):
did we look this up? Isthis the same town? It is?
It is the same town. Theygo back to Brantford, New Hampshire,
which is a made up town, real in a real state. Okay,
well, yes, we all knowNew Hampshire. Um, so this takes
place in the same town. Veryinteresting. So that little river in the

(06:48):
middle of town that they dunked itin how many years ago, like twenty
or thirty twenty ish years twenty we'llsay twenty twenty years ago, twenty plus
years ago. Um, now ithas swept up on shore on the beach

(07:08):
of New Hampshire. Yeah, thebeach at the end of well, the
thing is say Brantford, Branford,Okay, at the end of um,
yeah, I think they take alittle bit of liberty because at the end
of the original Jumanji did not seemlike a beach town Brantford. No.

(07:29):
But but what happens is it doesn'tjust wash up on a beach. It
watches up on a beach and twokids are walking towards it and they're speaking
another language. Yes, so theso the idea is that like it's moved
on to another plant. Yeah, but the but but in the plot,
the uh, maybe it's traveled aroundsome maybe. Um, but according to
the according to the story on Wikipedia, it's nineteen ninety six, so it's

(07:53):
just two years later. Are yousure ninety four was the original? I
think. So let's let's double checkthat real fast so that we know.
So it's in nineteen ninety six,so we're kind of like back in time.
At the beginning of this movie,it's nineteen ninety six. A man
is running on the beach. Hefinds the game in the beach and decides

(08:15):
to take it home. We neversee this man river except for his old
person character later nineteen ninety five.Okay, so just a year later.
Okay, interesting, But I meanno, no, no, no,
hang on, no no, no, no, no, no, absolutely

(08:37):
not. That was not nineteen ninetyfive that they dumped it. And they
go into no no, No,they go back You're right, they go
back to what to what nineteen sixtynine? Okay, nineteen sixty nine,
Yeah, nineteen sixty nine is wherewe're going from. They dumped the game
in the river in nineteen yes, yes, it goes to the river in

(08:58):
nineteen sixty nine at up on abeach somewhere far away. Yes, in
nineteen sixty nine. Yes, Andthen in the course of time, yes,
it comes back and we pick itup back in Brantford one year after
the previous movie ends, because becauseit flashes forward right, and then one
year after one year after the timejump right of the movie, right of

(09:24):
the original movie. Whoa. Soit's almost like it's almost like it never
left right, except it dead.So Dad brings this board game home and
knocks on the door of his teenageson and says, hey, I found
this. Oh we do see himmaybe. Um knocks on the on the

(09:45):
door of his teenage sons and says, hey, I found this game,
and the sun kind of like rousesfrom sleep, you know, like how
were the name um, and thenlooks at the game goes like board game,
lamo. Yeah, Because we're inthe age of video games and so

(10:05):
he picks up his video game andstarts playing it. Um. Yeah,
the game sees this. The gameknows Jamunci knows how to conform, conform
itself, transform itself to the surroundings. So the next thing we see is

(10:26):
that Jamuni has kind of goes throughthis little and now it's a video game
game. It's it's actually a cartridge. Yeah, it's like a cartridge for
it's like a sixty four cartridge. It's smaller than that. I mean,
it looks like it. It lookslike a game cartridge for like an Atari

(10:46):
type thing like that. It's hard. I don't think I should, but
what I mean is it's a thingthat with a Nintendo or a Sea yeah,
or an Atari. Yeah. Andthen green Light Flash is and um,
then we jump ahead. I'll justwant to say for this part of

(11:07):
the movie, just super quickly, the funniest part about this, the funniest
part about this is the kid looksat it. He opens up the game
and he sees a board game.He sees the game like the dangerous game
that no one should play, right, And he goes, no, thank
you, and he closes the boxand he goes back to playing. And
the and the the game like flashesan ominous green, magical glow, and

(11:31):
he looks at like what And hewalks back over and he opens it back
up again, and now it's justan empty it's just an empty wooden box
with a video game cartridge in itwith the same name as the game,
as the name of the game ofthe outside, and he goes, now,
I'll play. Now this makes moresense, thanks a lot, And

(11:52):
so he stops what he's doing. He unplugs the game, he plugs it
in the cartridge, and then wesee another flash of light from the street
eight mm. Flash forward again, flash forward, and now we're flashing forward
two. This is in the inthe movie. I guess it's supposed to
be Um, it's supposed to beuh, let me get back to it.

(12:13):
Twenty six sixteen, the movie isreleased. I'm looking at the wrong
one the movie is. This iswhere it's weird because it says twenty one
years later, it's twenty seventeen. But in the movie they say, like
later we're gonna here's mild spoiler alert, Like later on they say it's been
twenty years right, So I thinkI think in the movie it's supposed to

(12:35):
be twenty sixteen because it's supposed tobe a twenty year gap. Yeah,
okay, I don't want to becausewe're talking about three separate movies. I
don't want to. It's super deepdive. But we're jumping ahead. We've
got some teenagers that all go toschool together that are all very different.
We've got the geek, We've gotthe jock, We've got that it's the
Breakfast Club. And literally, becausethey all get to ten, they all

(13:00):
get to tention, they have toclean out the like storage room, basement
or whatever of their school. Theyfind this old game console that the geek
boy sets up and they start playingit, and then they get sucked into
the Vigio game. When they getsucked into the video game, they turn
into different characters. Yeah, youchoose your character, you always, Yeah,

(13:26):
you choose your character. So,um our main nerdy kid gets turned
into Dwayne the Rock Johnson. Sonow he's like the muscly hero that leads
everybody. Um Our Jock gets turnedand he's a big he's a football player,
he's very tall, and he getsturned into Kevin Hart, who is

(13:50):
not tall or very big, andhe is the sidekick of Dwayne's character.
So yeah, Dwayne's character is doctorsand smolder bravestone, right, bravestone.
And then and then it's Franklin Mouse, but they think it's Moose. They
misread it and think it's as Moose, and he's like, oh, yeah,
he's Moose because he's big, butyeah it's mouse because it's small.

(14:13):
Um. Our main kind of quietgirl gets turned into Karen Gillian, who
is Ruby Roundhouse and she's like karatechopping, dance fighting, like barely wearing

(14:33):
any clothes and she's like, whyam I wearing this in the middle of
the jungle? Stereotypical female video gamecharacter? Right? Um? And then
our um super pretty popular blonde girlgets turned into Jack Black, which is
the best professor Sheldon Shelley Oberon,Yes, um, and I have to

(14:58):
say, like every single one ofthem are perfect, are perfect? They
so well they go through the game, they're figuring out who they are in
these characters. They're figuring out thatsome people can be smarter, some people
don't, like can can Like evenwhat I like about it is that popular

(15:24):
girl Bethany is her name, thatgets turned into Jack Black actually kind of
takes on this why are you judgingme? Can't we all just be what
we want to be right kind ofthings instead of instead of the other way
around. She doesn't. She doesn't. She's not judging anyone for the way
they are. She just doesn't wantto be judged herself on being like the

(15:46):
pretty popular one, right, that'sjust who she wants to be like.
So I thought that was an interestingtake on that. So for sure,
they go through the game and thenthey meet further on end they meet um
who the boy that was sucked intothe game in nineteen five? Yeah,

(16:11):
yes, ninety six, and hehas transformed into Nick Jonas yea who is
the pilot Jefferson see playing McDonough.Yes, and he's a pilot. He's
been there and he doesn't realize he'sbeen there for twenty years, right because
time time is weird there. Yeah, he thinks he's only been there for

(16:32):
a much smaller amount of time. And this one they also have lives.
Yeah, and they have stats.Yeah, which is really funny. Um
and trying to think of something yetso um they it's it's a pretty straightforward,

(16:55):
yeah, Like it's the thing that'sfun about this movie is the character
interactions more than the story to behonest, right, Oh there are holes
in this story. Yeah, there'slots of problems with the like the like
that when you see the element beginto climb. Yes, the clues,
the clues that they get to getthem to the next section of the game

(17:15):
make no sense. It's like it'slike the writers just went, Okay,
well, like we're just going toscribble down some clues real quick and go,
and they tell the actors to go, and the actors just react to
each other and that's what makes themovie. The story is nothing, but

(17:36):
I will say there's a couple ofcool things. Um. One, I
wanted to point out that the sortof villain character is played by Bobby Cannavale,
who I think is one of thosepeople who, um gets kind of
shoehorn into the thing I remember BobbyCannavali from is like he was always in
a bunch of like sitcomy things andin the like two thousands, Like he

(17:59):
was always I feel like he wasa guest on Everybody Loves Raymond and a
bunch of shows like that, becausehe's like this sort of stereotypical like Italian
looking dude. Yeah. Um,but he's like First of all, he's
he's really good in aunt Man.He's the like cop yeah, yeah,
boyfriend of of the of what's hisname aunt Man's wife. Yeah, I

(18:23):
can't remember his name, Yeah,Paul Red, but I'm trying. I
was trying to think of the character'sname. It doesn't matter, um so,
but he but he's really good inthis as the bad guy Professor van
Pelt, who like gains the abilityto evil lee control nature. So I
want to say he's really cool. Also, uh, Reese Darby as Nigel

(18:45):
Billingsley, who's like the the theguy who is like the NPC at the
beginning of the game. That's like, I'm the one who's he had to
tell you all about how the gameworks. Yeah. Um, And so
they're they're really they're really good.Um. But I wanted to say that.
Also a cool thing about this becauseit's easy to see this as just
sort of a reboot of Jamanji, but there's actually this whole section where when

(19:07):
they meet up with Nick Jonas's characterwhere he's been living in this fort and
he's like, I don't know whoAlan Parrish is, but I owe him
a lot. And it's where likeRobin Williams's character like stayed and survived in
this world when he was here, right, So basically they all get sucked
into the Jamungjie world that Robin Williams'scharacter was sucked into in the original one.

(19:33):
So, and I'm sure there haveprobably been changes in the world because
Robin Williams's character is supposed to havelived in a jungle for how twenty something
years? Right, But this theplace where they find Nick Jonas's character is

(19:56):
close to like a town, itis, But there's also I was thinking
about this. I think you're right. I think I guess well, I
think they made they did make alittle bit of change because it's near,
it's near a lot of people. But there's also nothing in the original movie
that tells us that he was likenecessarily always alone. In fact, he

(20:18):
like he recognized when the hunter likecame around, right, But he talked
about how he lived in the jungle. Yeah, and he didn't wear it.
He came out not wearing any clothes. It was makeshift clothing that he
had, so it seems like hewasn't around any sort of civilization. Yeah,

(20:38):
yeah, you're right. I meanthe game definitely did have to change
to become the video game I supprised, right, Um, anyway, because
this is all real, it's ourtrue Um. So yeah, like we
said, we don't have to golike into the full details. There's not
a lot really to the story. They have to find a gem and put
it back where it belongs and callout its name, call, And it's

(21:03):
mainly about um kind of unlike thefirst movie, this one's like all about
like discovering who you really are inside, right, and and and being okay
with being okay with the person youare in the real world, right,
yeah, yes, like don't okaywith all versions. You don't live in

(21:25):
fantasy world. You have to beokay with the person you are in the
real world. Well, that's morethe second one really, the first one
we'll see first, because the firsthe asks her not to. He asks
her, he says, don't youwant to just stay here and you be
you and me be me? Andshe says, and she says, no,
I want to be me and no. In the first one, he

(21:47):
says, I want to like Iwant to be I want to be these
versions of ourselves, and she's saying, let's be like this. There she's
saying, like we've discovered who wereally are inside in the game. So
let's be like, you be BraveStone in the real world. Yeah,
I'll be Ruby Roundhouse in the realworld. So this one's the first one's
more about discovering who you are.The second one, the second sequel,

(22:10):
is where he goes over and he'slike, I needed to be Bravestone.
They're like, dude, you're notBravestone. Like, yeah, you can't
just be brave. You can't.You're not Bravestone. So the second one
is more about being, is moreabout being who being okay with. It's
about like separating fantasy from reality. So at the end of this one,

(22:30):
they all come out of it,they all get back to it, and
they've all found something in themselves.Like pretty popular girl Bethany has decided to
be more adventurous and do more thingsin nature. Umu the Fridge, the
big football player guy has decided tobe a better friend to his nerdy,

(22:55):
skinny white dude friend who has decidedto try to be braver in the world.
He and uh, cute girl oryou know, cute little nerdy girl
kind of like hook up Martha, and then they find out they're like Oh
well, I wonder what happened toum. Nick Jonas is what's his name?

(23:18):
Nick Jonas is car no Um AlexAlex Um. So they end up
going back toward where they know Alexused to live before he disappeared, right
because Yeah, And they walk upto the house and actually the houses lit

(23:41):
up for the holidays, and it'sgot like a lot of family at it.
And they see this guy step outof this minivan with like kids and
everything like that, and he seesthem and walks towards them, and it's
Um Hanks. Colin. It's ColinHanks, and he had the game spit

(24:03):
him back into his time and hegrew up and now he has a wife
and a family, and one ofhis kids is named Bethany because Bethany like
really like she saved his life inthe game. Yeah, saved his life
and impacted him in the game. And it's really cute. Yeah, it's
really very cute. And so theygo about kind of like happy life.

(24:26):
As you feel like that's a littlebit of an oversight because in the in
the course of the story, likeBethany as Jack black Jack black Yes,
develops a crush on Nick Jonas, right, um, and you're kind of
like, how are like, how'sthat going to work out as once you
learn that like he's from the past. Yeah, and yeah, I don't

(24:48):
know if they shoehorned that or ifthat was like I think it was perfect.
I mean it's great. I lovethe way that they ended up doing
it, but it's kind of it'sa it's an interesting thing. He's like,
yeah, we named my daughter afterthe the girl who saved my life.
And they're just like, oh,well he never showed any as much
interest in her as she did inhim. So anyway, that's Jumanji into

(25:10):
the Jungle. Then we go intoJumanji the next level and Jumanji the Next
level. Well, at the end, sorry, at the end, they
smashed the game console. Yeah, they're like, no one should ever play
this again. They smashed the gameconsole. Okay, now we're going into
there. So remember all the funthat you had in the first one,
and then you're going to have morefun again, even more, and so

(25:34):
add all the cool, all theall the cool and funny character interactions that
you had in the first one,and now we're going to add oops,
now we're going to add Danny Defto, Yes, Aquafina yes, um,
Danny Glover yes, um, ohwho is I'm missing someone? Uh that's

(26:02):
everybody? No, Yeah, that'sright, because yeah, because they get
because then they get all mixed up. That's what I was saying. Yeah,
I'll tell you what I was thinkingof. Do you know what I
was thinking of? I was thinkingof the new version of Kevin Hart.
Kevin Hart's a total change of thetype of character he has to play in.
This is totally different. So sothis again shows some acting chops.

(26:23):
Yeah, it's this is this one. If you really really like Jamunji Welcome
to the Jungle and how these actorshave to take on the personalities of someone
else to play a different part. This one does that even more. So

(26:44):
we go into this, we gointo this and we find out that um
what is his name, the mainkid, the real oh, his real
name Spencer, Um Spencer, whois the main kind of like a nerdy
kid, has really kind of likebacked himself away from the group. The

(27:04):
group of the other of their peoplethat went through Jamanji together have been texting
and they've all gone to like collegeor gone on trips or stuff like that.
So they decided they want to meetup a not Alex. Spencer is
um like, he's he's not reallyreplying, he doesn't he doesn't feel good

(27:26):
in his own skin. He's he'she's dissatisfied. Um. He comes home
and his grandfather is staying in hishome and that's Danny DeVito, and um,
we we come to find out DannyDeVito has a little bit of a

(27:47):
beef with an old friend of hiswho is played by Danny Glover. And
Danny Glover comes in. They're talkingand then the kids come over and are,
oh, no, first, no, we don't know where he is.
We don't know where he is now. Um. The rest of the
group comes over saying, like whereSpencer. We can't we were going to
meet up. They never He nevercame and they go kind of like into

(28:14):
the house and they're like looking aroundand then they start hearing the drumbeats and
they're like, no, how canthis be. They go down into the
basement and find that Spencer went backand got the smashed game console and has
been putting it back together, butit's all glitchy, and um, it's

(28:38):
wires are hooked up and it's notfully put back together. It's very like
makeshift put back together. So theyrealize Spencer has gone back into the game,
and who's gonna go in and savethem? I guess they are.
So they're like, so they turnon the game, Come Soul to go

(29:00):
in and like choose their characters togo back into the game. But it
never lets them choose their characters.Yeah, it just sucks amount. And
you see the streams of light cominginto the game, and some of the
streams of light are coming from thesepeople and some are coming from upstairs,
which you go like, oh,the game's sucking in more people than it

(29:22):
should. And once it all issaid and done, Bethany is still standing
there, the popular blondeheaded girl. She never got sucked into the game.
But Dandy DeVito Grandpa, and DannyDeVito's friend Danny Glover Miles and um,

(29:45):
Danny Vito is Milo Milo, DannyGlover is Milo and Eddie, and Milo
and Eddie get sucked into the gameas well. So when they all land
in the game, Ruby Roundhouse danceup. This is Karen Gillians and she's
like, okay, I'm back towho I was, all right. The

(30:07):
rock stands up and she goes Spencerand he goes Spencer. Who's what,
where's Spencer? And and it's Dannydevitos Danny Now the rock. The rock
is now emmolating Danny DeVito. KevinHart stands up and he is Eddie who

(30:30):
is Danny Glover and he this isthe best part of the Yeah, Kevin
Hart doing Danny Glover is so fun. It's that slow talk and this it's
through the whole thing. Like thejoke through this whole movie is that he's
so slow talking. Yeah, He'slike, now there is an amazing thing

(30:52):
that is an ostrich Now ostriches andthen Fridge the big the big football player
guy um gets put into Jack Black'sbody, and we don't know where Bethany
is because they and we know whereBethany is, but they don't know where
Bethani is. They it comes tofind out they follow some clues. They

(31:15):
figure out that Spencer should be followingthe clues as well, and it turns
out Spencer came into Aquafina's body, who a new playable character in the Germanji
game whose name in the game isming Fleetfoot and she's a thief, like
a thief like yeah, um pickpocket, uh, thief thief um. Not

(31:42):
all thieves are pickpockets, and notall pickpockets are thieves. All pickpockets are
thieves, not all thieves are pickpockets. Um anyway, So that's yeah,
it's the way the characters, it'sthe way the actors are their characters.

(32:07):
To me, that is so funnyin this movie. Again, the story
isn't that great. The clues aredumb, like they don't make any sense,
and they're just coming up with Brandon, and then there there are times
that they end up finding this likemagic water that switches their bodies around,

(32:30):
so that they do every now andagain kind of switch around and another actor
has to play another character and it'sand that's kind of fun. So eventually
in the real world, Bethany islike, I don't know what to do,
and she's like, wait, there'sone other person who knows about Jamanji,
and she goes to Colin Hanks's character, Yeah, and they sort of

(32:51):
get together, and I guess ColinHanks is like the implications that Colin Hanks
also has some like fixing video gameexperience because he was a video gamer in
the nineties. Um, a videogamer. That's the word I just said.
Um. And so later on theyshow up Nick Jonah shows up in
the game, and this and thisblack beautiful, beautiful black Stallion shows up

(33:15):
and that is Bethany Um and soyeah. By the end, they find
the like magical switching water and everyone'sbodies get sorted right into the um into
the last movies order. So theso the original characters get in that we
know from the first movie get intotheirs. Danny DeVito goes into Aquafina and

(33:37):
Danny Glover goes into the Horse.Yes, um and so, and that's
and that's gonna be like their finalsort of they have to go raid the
bad guy's castle or remember what itum, So they have to go get
this another like stone thing, yeah, from from gem to get um and

(33:58):
and so we discover I'm gonna againsort of spoiler for the end of it,
but like, uh, we findout that the reason that Danny Glover's
character came back to sort of makeup with Danny DeVito's character is they were
they were they've been friends for yearsand years and h and Danny Glover like
went and stole Dany DeVito's girl orlike asked out the girl that he was

(34:20):
into. I'm not sure that wasit that I thought he quit the he
quit the restaurant to go hang outwith his girl, but yeah, to
be married instead. He quit therestaurant. Is the thing I don't think.
I don't think they had a lovetriangle thing. I think it was
just that he stopped doing the businesswith I thought there was a love triangle
thing too. Maybe there wasn't.Maybe it was just the business part.

(34:43):
But anyway, he comes back tomake amends with his friend because it turns
out that he is like he haslike terminal cancer and he's trying to make
up make up at the end ofhis life. Yeah. And so the
very end, when they're doing likethe handshake with the NPC to the real
world, he chooses to like staybehind Yeah, because he's also a magical

(35:07):
horse that can fly. Yeah.It turns out that one of his one
of his abilities is be a pegasus. Yeah. Um um. The business
thing that they were fighting over,by the way, was the restaurant,
and the restaurant was what the kidswere eating at and at the beginning and
everything like that. They end upat the end all going to the restaurant

(35:29):
to meet up and say hey andhang out and stuff, and Danny de
Vito also goes in. Milo alsogoes in. And it turns out that
the owner of the restaurant that likebought them out or that like that like
took over their restaurant when their partnershipdissolved is actually the ant from the Oga

(35:53):
Jamungie. So the ant that wasDunst's aunt, who's like the one who
is keeping the kids, and it'sthe same actress. Yes she, um,
I mean so that house that shebrought bought in that original the original
you know, I think she's goingto make into like a bed and breakfast

(36:14):
or something like that. Yeah, and you know the house gets like completely
destroyed or no, because it allsucks. It stays, it stays house,
right and right they get married.Um so, so I guess miss
aunt whoever her name whoever, sheis right, because the restaurant is called

(36:37):
Nora's right. But she was theone. Yeah, so she was the
one that like this is why Iwas thinking it was like a triangle thing
because that's the restaurant. Yeah. But then it's like but then it's like
the the didn't wasn't like we shouldhave watched it again before we wasn't.

(36:58):
I thought it was that Danny Glover. No, Danny Glover got married to
somebody else and and just wanted tobe married and like hang out with his
wife and in travel and stuff likethat. And so they rest and Norah

(37:19):
took over the restaurant okay and changedOkay, yes, I'm with you,
okay. Um So anyway, lovethat they brought her character back so that
we could see where she ended upbeing in rewritten time. Yeah, still
in Branford, New Hampshire. Right, right, Um, The last we
see of this movie is um AnOstrich running down the road. Uh not

(37:45):
just stampede, Yeah, stampede actuallyrun by the restaurant in like a post
credit scene. Yeah. So somaybe there's another one. Imma. There's
an implication is that Jamunji has nowcome into the real world like it did
in the in the very first right. Um, okay, how long have
we run? Oh for a bit? Okay, we have enough time to

(38:10):
talk about though. Okay, wellwe didn't say what we're gonna talk about
the next one, yes, um, just so just so we know though,
before we switched gears because um,well we'll take a we'll do a
break. Okay here in a second, because we're we're out, We're out
of practice. This is the firsttime we've done this, so I forgot
to have us take a break sooner. Feel like we're talking, you're like

(38:31):
a lot. We are kind ofpodcasting. Yeah, we're doing fine.
Before we take a break in promoVille, I did just want to point
out that I just did a quickgoogle and yeah, Jumanji the Final Level
it's coming out this year. Ohyeah, I'm excited. I hope it's
I hope it's good. Good right, yeah, um, So yeah,

(38:51):
let's take a quick break in promoVille, and then we'll come back and
we'll talk about our mystery. Wetalked about it last in the last episode
two, Like we said we weregoing to talk about this time and we're

(39:13):
back. Uh. Have you everthought about if Jamungi could be in space?
What if space? I don't.We don't have to wonder now is
this in Jamungi Cannon Lore or isthis just a movie that somebody made that

(39:37):
was like, let's do Jamungi butlike in space. So we we did
talk a little bit about this lasttime. I remember, if I remember
correctly, I'm gonna look down here, I'm gonna click on the thing that
I think is true. Um yeah, if i'm unless I'm mistaken, I
can't find it here. But ifI'm remembering right from our from the episode

(39:58):
we recorded two months ago, theseare Jumanji and Z are both books written
by the same person, and sothey're similar. Um, they're similar in
story, but that's why, andso they're not officially in the same canon.
But I did want to point this. I didn't want to say this
because I don't know if you sawthis the other day image to share it
with you. I don't think Idid. M I came across a there

(40:22):
was a news article that came outa couple of I guess maybe a week
or so ago, a week ortwo, and it was all about like
it was a spoof article about someoneuh hunting down the creators of Jumanji,
like as if Jumanji was a realgame, and they like, we're going
and finding those people and like suingthem for damages. And so the idea

(40:47):
was like they finally tracked down thecreators of this magical game that's caused so
much havoc in our world. Ye, and they and so they talk about
like all the incidents that happened inall the movies, and then at the
end, just kind of as afootnote, they're like, they're also being
investigated in a similar in a similarstory related to a game called Zathura from

(41:09):
the early two thousands. Yeah, and so like the idea is that they're
all loosely related, but nobody shouldknow what happened because time rewrites itself.
Right, But so how would soyou wouldn't be able to prove anything,

(41:31):
no law, not unless um AlanParish was like, yeah, I recognize
that game because the because he andBonnie Hunt would recognize the game. Yeah.
But now they're just two crazy peoplethat have had a perfect life together
that say in a past life, yeah, but now there's four kids and

(41:53):
an old man and a middle agedman who also are all now talking about
Jumanji. And there's a stampede ofanmals coming down the street, and so
I say they're walking that this isthis is my head cannon. Now they
see the stampede, go buy andthey walk out and they're like, oh
man, it's just like in Jumanji. And you flash across the street and
here's old man whoever's being recast.I hope they don't recast Alan Parish and

(42:16):
we have to see someone other thanRobin Williams. But like old man,
Robin Williams is across the two goesJumanji like because he recognized I give yeah
exactly. So like Kirson Dunst wouldn'tand and Nora wouldn't hurt the aunt.
They wouldn't know about Jumanji. ButKurson Dunce does. No, No,

(42:38):
she doesn't. She remembered at theend of the movie. No she did
not. She did. She said, if you guys say anything about what
happened, and you said she shouldn'tbe able to remember anything. Oh,
Kurson Dunce, I'm thinking, Kristin. Okay, I'm looking at you,

(43:00):
going, what did I did notsay that? How she's so small at
in that movie? Okay, thatwas my bad. I was thinking of
the wrong Kristen. Kirsten, imagineJumanji been in space. That's what I
said already. Um. And insteadof all of the characters we've talked about,
there's two young kids and Kristen Stewartand Dark Shepherd. Yeah, so

(43:20):
we have two brothers that don't getalong. And one of those brothers is
baby Josh Hutchinson, a little babyPeter. Is it Hutchins or hutcher I
always forget Hutcherson, hutcher little babyJosh Hutcherson, who is by the way,
in all of his like kid likefamily movies, is a jerk.

(43:42):
Yeah, he's always like rude tohis family face. Oh my goodness.
Josh Hutcherson also was in a moviewith Robin Williams in RV. Oh yeah,
he wasn't r V. Wasn't he? Si Degrees of Jim Munchie,
you know who. Here's here's anotherimportant Hey if you play six degrees,

(44:04):
here's a very important one. Um. The voice of the robot in in
Zathura that we meet is Frank Oz, the voice of Yoda. So now
you have a very important connection betweenRobin Williams and the cast of Star Wars,
which you don't get. That's that'snot an easy connection to make.
Apparently it is, though it's avery small cast. It's Josh Hutcherson.

(44:25):
The younger brother is played by JonahBobo, who I don't know if he's
been on other stuff. Dak Shepherdis in there as the astronaut. Christen
Stewart is the older sister Lisa, and Tim Robintons plays the dad yep,
and then we get the robot andthe robot um two brothers don't get alone.
Man, it's all Danny's fault thatmom and dad got divorced and all

(44:52):
Danny. I don't want to Idon't want to downplay like people who who
like because that's the thing that peoplefeel. Right, But that's like the
sea of this, it really is. It boils down of that. But
then Danny is such a whiny littlehe's so he is annoying. What's the
boy Walter? First of all? Also the Walter he like speaks with a

(45:16):
baby voice the whole time. It'sreally it's really annoying. Um. So
I like this movie. Rewatching itagain like last week, I was like,
man, these kids are so annoying. Yeah, it's a. It's
a. It's weird watching it becauseit's it's definitely kittier, yes than Jumanji.

(45:37):
There's it doesn't feel as dangerous eventhough they're in space right um being
hunted by meat eating lizards. Yeah, it still doesn't feel as dangerous as
that freaking as like the vines inthat house. Yeah, um, you
remember how dangerous those behinds were.Um, but I will say that the

(46:00):
that the twist is pretty good.Yeah. Um. If you guys haven't
seen Zathura and you think you're gonnasee Zea, there will be spoilers.
I mean we know. Um throughthey find they find Zethera in the basement.
Also, who finds these games intheir basements that nobody has played before?

(46:22):
Like that's just there was insane tome. There was a moment and
I wish that it would be coolif there was a way that they could
tie this. This was like away that they could tie it into the
real Jamanji verse. Is at thebeginning, they're like, Um, so
the boys are with their dad andum, and they're like, why are
we Why are you in this gianthouse? He goes, Hey, this

(46:43):
is a cool, very special house. He never goes into why it's a
special house. And I wish thatit was because it was like the old
parish house or something. But thenwhy would Zathura be there because of Jamanji
magic? If you will, um, it's magic. Um yeah, he
says like it's a very Oh therewe go it's a very special house,

(47:06):
he says at the at the beginning. And it's special, I guess because
it's it's the it's the it's spaceshipsa thorough no. Um. So Danny
just wants to play with Walter andwinds about it constantly. So Danny uh
ends up finding this game in thebasement, brings it back up and like,

(47:27):
well, there I'm playing with me, and he starts playing the game,
and um, it's a space gamethat little um rocket ships go down
the you know, like how JimMungjie was where the character or the um
and it pops out of card andthe card is like the little game clue

(47:51):
like Ja Muni had the swirling greenthing or something like that. This has
little cards that pop out that thenwhatever it says happens. Suddenly they're in
their house and they are also inthe middle of space in their house.
Um. Through it all, theycome across this lone astronaut guy that's been

(48:13):
floating in space for like again twentyyears or fifteen years for some reason,
it's always fifteen or twenty years.Yeah, and he comes in and like
eats a lot of their food andlike helps them escape the lizards and everything.
And this is Deck's shepherd, whoreally in this particular movie, isn't

(48:38):
that funny? No, this isa pretty serious character, but he's like
kids serious. Yeah, Like he'sa he's like a jokey not full adult,
but he's an adult. But likeyeah he I mean he doesn't he
doesn't have he doesn't have funny jokes, but he's like a quippy character through
through all this. Lisa, who'splayed by Chris since Stuart um she the

(49:02):
boys at first were trying to tellher, like what's going on like this
game, and she's like, leaveme alone. She's like a really mean
older sister. She's like, leaveme alone. She goes in there.
She ends up being frozen and likecryogenic cry in the game. Um So,
like she's like that for like halfof the movie. Like they were

(49:24):
like, we don't need an oldersister in this movie, right, we
just need her to be up there. They basically this is again like other
like setting aside original Jumanji, andI know that we're thinking of these as
related, but they're really not.Like this movie. This movie wasn't made
in relationship with Jumanji. It's justthat it's like a Jumanji for modern times.

(49:49):
Um. But whether you think ofthem that way or not, like
set that aside, set the newones aside even too, Like we've talked
about how there's not a lot ofstory to the to the newer ones.
There's some story here, like there'scharacter development and there's a point to it.
Um. But they definitely with christand Stewart, were like, we
need like a we need like awe need like a teenage girl to like

(50:15):
make the older younger kids want tocome to see the movie or something,
and then we need her to belike an interaction. I didn't feel like
she had much of a part init. No, that's this is what
I'm saying. Yeah, there was. I think she was literally there as
like better or worse. I thinkshe was mainly there to be seen,

(50:37):
um and also to have like chemistryinteractions with Dak Shepherd before we find out
the twist. Yeah, even thoughlike he doesn't have that with her,
but she like but she like hasa crush on him. Yeah. Um,
So she gets unfrozen and realizes what'shappening in the house and does nothing
to help. Unhelpful. She's she'sno thing to be fair. She's nothing

(51:00):
character. She does not she she'snot there when the like she's she's present
when the game starts, but prettymuch the first thing that happens is she
gets frozen. So like for her, it's all right. But even when
she's unfrozen, she does nothing.I know. But I'm just saying,
imagine that you went to get ashower and then you came and then you're

(51:22):
like, wait a second, whyam I frozen? And you go to
find out what's going on and yourhouse is in space, you would you
wouldn't know what to do either. Are you standing up for the character,
Lisa, I'm not. I'm justsaying not overall. I'm just saying the
initial reaction I think is pretty natural. She does nothing, she does nothing.

(51:45):
She does she has time enough tosay how beautiful deak shepherds are true?
That's true, So she has enoughtime to you know, put thoughts
together. But anyway, it turnsout in this game a card pops up
that says there's going to be ashooting star and who and the player that

(52:05):
got that car gets to make anywish they want. Yeah, um,
we have for for a minute, think that older brother Walter j Josha jejard
Um is going to wish away hisbrother Danny because he really dislikes his brother.
He says, Danny, aren't you'rethe reason Mom left? You know

(52:25):
all this stuff? Um, AndDax even comes up, comes over to
him and I was like, don'tdo it. I know what you're thinking.
Don't do it at all. Sothere's this fear um. And turns
out he wished for a football.Yeah, it's stupid. It's stupid.
It's really um. Even in themovie though, they're like you wished for

(52:47):
a football, you could have wishedfor the game to be over, and
he's like, I was under pressure. Um. Then what happens later towards
the end of the movie is hegets another So there they come to appreciate
each other more. The two brothers, Josh trying to be a bigger older

(53:10):
brother to little brother and like protecthim, and little brother is trying to
I guess not be so whiny.I don't know. He never really gets
there, but um, but hegets another shooting star. Older brother Walter
does played by Josh. That's whyI called him Josh um. And he

(53:32):
when he gets the shooting star,he again doesn't wish the game over.
He doesn't wish the game over.He learned that Deak Shepherd's character had lost
his little brother to the game.Yeah, he says, like, I
was playing a game with my youngerbrother, just like you guys, and
I got a shooting star and Iwish my brother away. Yeah, and

(53:53):
but that made it so he waslocked in the game because it was his
brother's turn, so I never gotto finish. So when he when Walter
gets the shooting star, he wishesDak's Shepherd's little brother would come back to
him, and suddenly appeared is anotherDanny, another of the little brother.

(54:15):
So now we're realizing, we're realizingthis is another like alternate reality universe thing.
Jack's Shepherd is actually the older versionof Josh Hutcherson's character Walter. Yeah,
so the astronaut is old Walter. Is old Walter Walter who had gotten

(54:38):
a shooting star and wished Danny awayand therefore got stuck in the game,
and he lost his brother and helost and he had to get stuck in
the game. All right, wehad to take a quick break from we're
all sitting in the room here together, so we're back. So yeah,

(54:58):
the so Dak Shepherd is is Walter, and um, now that they know
that duplicate Danny and astronaut Walter canresorb into the real version, they literally
go over and like they do likeum uh the twins on mountains escape twitch

(55:22):
mountain. They like put their handstogether and he goes and but then like
old Walter dissolves, it gets absorbed, like you said, into young Walter,
and clone Danny gets abs like absorbedinto real Danny, and they're like

(55:43):
like amazing, and then I guessand then that's and then and then they
all live, and then they allknow that's not quite the end. They
um, they have to there's likeone more thing they have to do aftergot
the black hole. Yes, that'sit. They spend they spend the last

(56:04):
thing. They make it as athorough but it turns out as a as
a black hole. And that's basicallythe like the end of Jermanju when everything
gets stuck back into the game.Yeah, and suddenly they're in their house.
Everything's fine, and Dad comes backin and he just had to run
to the office for ten minutes andhe's like, hey, did you guys
have a nice time? And they'relike, you'll never believe all the things

(56:27):
we saw, blah blah. He'slike, you guys have great imaginations.
And then their mom comes to pickthem up. And this is what I
was talking about, is that thenchrist and Stewart comes out of the house
and tells the boys we're never tospeak of this ever again, and they're
like and but then Walter goes like, you mean you're not going to tell

(56:50):
me how beautiful my eyes are orsomething like that, Like, and that's
the end of the movie. Andthen the very last thing that happens on
screen is one of the first thingsthat happened, like when they first realized
they were in space. Yeah,is like one of the kids bike's got
knocked. Yeah, and you couldsee like the you could see the bike
like floating off into space. Andthen the very last thing that happens in

(57:10):
the movie is the bike falls outof the sky into the yard. Yeah,
as if to say, like, but he come back, And then
that's in the movie. This movieis directed by Jon Favreau. I just
wanted to say that out loud,um and like just a couple of years,
just literally like a year before hestarted working on Iron Man. Yeah,

(57:36):
he made Zathura. Yeah, that'squite a leap there in it.
There is an iron Man in Zathuraugh, it's a root. Yeah, that's
another another way to say. It'slike I'm I'm like a man made of
iron. No, it's a robotand he even flies. He has like
he has like Booster. He's likeBooster rockets and he has like a little

(57:58):
hole in his chest. I'm justsaying to use Workshopp and some Iron Man
stiff. Interesting. He doesn't lookanything like Iron Man. Um. Yeah,
but John Vavro made this movie, which great good, Like, okay,
I know you do, we alldid. Jhavro was great. He's
he's revitalizing star wars. Um didour recording stop? No, it's just

(58:23):
going really slow because we're resumed out. Oh see we're still going. Oh
okay. Uh so that are Thatis all of the current installments of the
Jamungji Verse, including Zathura, excludingthe Nickelodeon cartoon. I never saw that.

(58:45):
No, so um, we willcome back at you when we see
whatever the twenty twenty two version bringsus. The final level is I think
what it was called when we lookedfor a Second Ago, which like I
said, I went into the DwayneJohnson Joe Mungies with very low expectations and

(59:10):
was very pleasantly surprised. Oh yeah, extremely, it's been a great run.
Yeah, I really hope they canend it on a on a good
level. Again, the stories notdon't make sense, they're nothing, They're
not much of anything, but theacting and characters and all that, it's

(59:31):
worth it. It's fun. Yeah, Um, and Zathur is fun to
just kind of watch every now andagain. Again, that's so whiny.
It's more of a it's much moreof a kid movie than any of the
other things we've talked about. Yeah. I do kind of hope that the
new Jumanji finds a way to somehowtie them together. I think that would

(59:52):
be fun. I think they'd befun. It would be interest to formalize
that canon. It's gonna be great. This has been not suvile for adults.
Um. We will hopefully be backto a more normal schedule. I
joked about like calling like thinking aboutthis is like season two, because like

(01:00:15):
sometimes podcast two seasons. How doesseason a season last? As long as
it doesn't? Well, it canbe whenever you want. This is the
thing, Like it can be that. There's no rules for prob and I
say, this is season sixteen.Well there you go, this is this
is the episode one of season sixteen. Get caught up on all fifteen seasons.

(01:00:36):
Um, but yeah, we wejust needed we just need their break,
guys, and well on it.Like like I said, it was
one thing after another after another afteranother. And it wasn't just COVID either
or it also got the flu atChristmas. Like it was just there was

(01:00:57):
a lot, a lot, alot of stuff happening. Yeah, we'll
try a more normal we We've alreadygot a couple of other things that we've

(01:01:46):
