(00:14):
All right, welcome to not suitablefor adults. It's a podcast for kids
stuff, but with grown ups.Coora is standing here with us, and
she looked at me, she wouldyes, that is what this is,

(00:35):
Cora. Really we can we canget into our regular spiel in a minute.
I think I think Cora kind ofwanted to participate. Yeah, we'll
do a quick jump ahead. Oneof the things we're gonna be talking about
this week is, uh, thethe Disney Pixar film Luca, and Cora
wants to tell you some of herthoughts about Luca. So here is Cora

(00:58):
can new baby. Hello. Um, this is kind of a weird show
because they could turn into sea monsters. Right? What else did you like
the movie? Yes? Yes?What's your favorite thing about Luca? He

(01:19):
when he see monster, when heturns into a sea monster. What about
when he's eating all pasta? It'sfunny. What what did you learn when
watching me? What did it teachyou? Like? Did it teach you
anything? What did it teach me? We're asking you did you learn anything

(01:40):
when you watch Luca? Now?Did you learn things in a different language?
Oh? Yeah, did I saya different language? They said different
language? And the normal language, the different language and the normal language.
There's some things in Italian and English. Right, do it right? Come

(02:00):
on, if we're gonna do it, you have to do it right.
I don't wait, she's too closeto this. Yeah, don't put your
face on the microphone. Thank you, Cora. So, yeah, before
we get into it, we're like, this is so. It's been a
couple of weeks now. I don'teven want to get into why that is.

(02:20):
Yeah, suffice it to say we'rerecording on a new computer I got.
I took a while today to getall the bugs worked out, but
we're here. We also have takena while to get all of our bugs
worked out. We have also hadsome bugs. There's been bugs in US
and bugs in the machines. Andall the bugs now, for the most

(02:45):
part, are gone. Hopefully we'rebug free in Tennessee. Hopefully we're still
waiting on um my computer to getfixed. That's true. The day,
the day this new computer arrived,Natalie's computer decided it didn't have a hard
drive anymore. I didn't care.Yeah, I just decided, you know

(03:06):
what I am. I'm just youknow, I'm done with my hard drive.
I just have decided I don't haveone in me. You are telling
me I have a hard drive,and I disagree. It's what it said.
So now we're we're waiting on thatto be repaired. But we did
watch some fun some fun and funnythings for children for the young, for

(03:28):
the young uns, the young, for the young es. Uh. And
since we've already sort of spoiled spoiledthat where you did it, let's talk
about Luca. How do you Howdo you like Luca? I thought it
was cute. I I was.I didn't know much about Luca going in
to seeing Luca, so I actuallyI actually um, I actually didn't even

(03:54):
really realize it was a Pixar movieuntil as we were watching it, and
you were like, this doesn't looklike Pixar, And I was like,
is it Pixar And you were like, yeah, it's surprising to me because
it does not look like a Pixarmovie. Yeah. I feel like Pixar
has a very specific animation style.Um, and this does not have that.

(04:19):
Yeah. They broke the some ofthe Pixar sort of traditions with this
one. We actually I was,I told Natalie about this. I watched
the the honest trailer for Luca cameout and if you don't watch honest trailer
Honest trailers on YouTube, you shoulddo that. It's a it's a funny
yuh funny bit. Yeah, they'regood. Um. It's usually about five

(04:43):
minutes on why the movie that they'rereviewing is like either good or whatever,
but like it tells like it isit's honest. Yeah. Yeah. And
it starts out and it goes likefrom the studio that make that forces you
to have an existential crisis and questionin your childhood. Yeah, and it
goes and then it's like comes afun summer romp about two boys just like

(05:04):
learning to be out in the world. Yeah. Like it's totally a feel
good movie and it you know,it doesn't make you question everything. Yeah.
Um, so yeah, there's noexistential crisis in this one. Uh,
there's no, no, there's noLike it's not like Soul where you
thought about souls, Yeah, whereyou have to yeah, where you have

(05:26):
to determine, like let's let's spendan hour and a half thinking about what
it is to to exist and whatall of our purpose on earth is.
Yeah. Um, Now that doesn'tmean there's nothing here like there's nothing.
There's plenty emotional here this is andwe won't spoil it. Hopefully you have
a chance to see. It's onDisney Plus. Um. But like you

(05:46):
can tell from the from the trailer, a lot of this it's it's a
young boy who is who is asea monster living off the coast of Italy
somewhere. So that's kind of whatCore was talking about was a lot.
They speak a lot of Italian yeain this movie, and it makes it
feel very genuine. They do speaka lot of Italian, but they also

(06:11):
do a lot of joke Italian.Yeah, um, not in a mean
way, I think, But likethe there's this one girl, Julia,
who is like one of the friendsthey meet along the way sort of thing,
and she through the whole movie sayslike Santa Rita and every time it's
a different cheese, it's always likeSanta santazz It's always which is I mean,

(06:33):
that's a funny joke. But andthere's a lot of there's a lot
of joking about like eating a tonof pasta and all these things that but
it's not like they're making fun ofItalian. No, no, no,
not at all. That's what Imean by like it was genuine. It
felt like and even like the creditsat the beginning, um uh A lot

(06:56):
of it was in Italian when itwas, you know, coming up,
Like what am I saying? Thecredits, Yeah, opening credits. The
opening credits make it look like itis an Italian film. Uh, yeah,
it's it's it's pretty, it's prettycute. It's so basically the the
the overall plot is this young man, he's a he's a sea monster.

(07:19):
And he's saying this young man.It makes it um that it feels he's
a he's a little boy. Itmakes a young man to me sounds like
ten eleven. I know, butI don't know that feels weird. I
wouldn't call him a young man.Yeah, it wasn't. Yeah, I
wasn't doing anything with that. Iwas just using a word. So,
yeah, this kid, it's akid. Uh, he's a he's a

(07:44):
sea monster and he lives under thesea and his family is very like,
we don't go over, we don'tgo to the surface, and he like
discovers that. When he does goto the surface, he meets another kid
who who lives up there, whois also a sea monster, but who
mainly lives on the surface, thatwhen you go up there, you just
transform into a human. You justlook like a human until you get back

(08:05):
in the water, well unless youget wet. Not getting back in the
water, even just getting a littlebit of wet water, Yeah, the
part of you that gets watery becomessea monster again, which is a running
gag in the movie. They they'reconstantly having to like dry off, so
they sort of go up to thesurface and there's this, uh, there's

(08:28):
this little town nearby, and alot of it is centered on like this
this other boy wanting to get avespa, Like his whole thing is that
he needs a vespa so that hecan get out of there, so that
he can go traveling, so hecan see the world. And there's a
joke about that actually in the Honesttrailer too, it's like does someone does
there's one of the sea level peopleat Disney owned stock and Vespa because they

(08:50):
literally say Vespa by name about aton of times um through through the through
the story, they meet this othergirl, this actual human girl, Julia,
and it's sort of about how theybecome friends and how how that friendship
sort of like weighs on uh Lucathe main character and tournament Alberto Um,

(09:16):
how that weighs on them sort ofas friends too, uh So, but
it's and so it's very much likethat's I feel like, pretty relatable as
Yeah, it's like who's your bestfriend? Is kind of right. It's
there's a little bit of a jealousythat happens when they meet a new friend.

(09:39):
And this new friend is she's teachingLuca about things that Alberto didn't necessarily
know about or something like that, because Luca is coming up and he is
just not ignorant of the world, and so he's wanting to learn everything.
Alberto um claims to know all andhe's wrong about it, and he's wrong

(10:01):
about a lot of the things, but he says everything with such confidence and
he just feels like he knows everything. And then later when Luca learns,
hey, the stars actually aren't fish. The stars are stars. That's something
that he learns. Um, thenAlberto starts to become jealous that this other

(10:24):
person is kind of taking over asthis you know, this role of being
looked up to and m being reliedupon and stuff like that. Yeah,
it's um, it's a really goodone. I do want to take a
really quick moment and this will thisis this is a new segment. It's

(10:46):
not, it's not. But Iwant to let's have a serious, a
quick, serious discussion about art.Can we talk about just like the nature
of art for a second? Wow, I'm not quite qualified for that.
It's gonna be fun. I mean, you're more than me. Um here.
So here's the thing. This isone of those movies that became polarizing

(11:07):
for some people, and in myopinion, for bad reasons. And here's
so, here's what it is.There are members of the LGBTQ community who
saw themselves in this film because themovie has a lot to do with like

(11:30):
being a young person who needs tohide something significant about themselves from the world
and who is like making friends withpeople who are who are who share that
situation and who don't, and howyou share that with people who aren't,
who don't understand where you're coming from. That's a big part of this movie.
And when you do finally show yourselves, you can be accepted as Yeah,

(11:54):
and so that's a big part ofthis movie. Now, I will
I would argue that that that thathas broader implications to to oh, Yeah,
it doesn't have to be it doesn'thave to be specific, right,
um. So so, but that'snot what I want to get down on
because because one thing that's good aboutmovies and about art in general is that
the person who creates it creates itand it is what it is. But

(12:18):
also, like you can, artis different for different people, So you
come at it with your own experience. Absolutely, nobody's going to look at
nobody's going to look at something andsee it the exact same way that somebody
else sees it. Even if youhave similar experiences, somebody may somebody may
look at something different and see somethingdifferent. So so that is so this

(12:41):
is not the portion that I wantto that I want to sort of criticize,
because I think that it's valid tocome into a situation and bring in
your own experience and put that onthe on the art um. On the
other hand, there were people whoheard that that was the case and who

(13:01):
assumed that that's what this movie wasabout. Right. The point of the
movie was about a coming out, right, yes, which which I will
say, like if that was theif that was the filmmaker's intent, which
it wasn't. Like he went onrecord of saying like, listen, I'm
I'm supportive of that, of thatperspective, and I'm so glad that people

(13:26):
found like a certain amount of comfortin the film that way. But that
just wasn't his intent when he madethe movie. He made it as like,
no, these are these are youngchildren, and that's not what they're
dealing. That's not that those aren'tthe struggles that we're talking about in this
movie. We're just talking about sortof broadly being yourself and being a kid,
um and like finally figuring out friendship. So, but my problem is

(13:52):
with people who for whatever reason, like hear about something like something about a
movie that they don't like, andthen they're like, no, I don't
like that, that's bad, boycottit without even really looking into it.
You mean, yeah, um andso and so I just want to I

(14:13):
just want to say, I justwant to put into the universe. If
you're a person, um, andI think that that the person I'm about
to describe is very much sort oflike our target our our our target audience.
UM, if you're a person wholike wants to curate the stuff that
your kids watch, which is nobleand good and reasonable, and you should

(14:39):
do that. That's that's why we'redoing this. Um, I just want
to encourage you and remind you thatthe best way to do that is to
see it for yourself and make yourown judgment. Absolutely right, Yeah,
you can't. You can't. Youcan't say anything about what you have no
experience. Yeah, that was aterrible sentence. But and you can't always

(15:03):
do that, Like, it's reallyhard to do that when it's a movie
that's in theaters, so like youcan't go and watch the movie in theater.
And so like, I understand thatto some degree, you rely on
reviews and maybe a show like ourshow to like to give you some idea
about something, But don't pigeonhole something, especially something you have immediate immediate access

(15:24):
to. Yeah, like like amovie that comes out on a streaming service.
I mean we sat down. Wehad not watched this. Before we
sat down, we were like, this is Disney Pixar. We're gonna sit
down and we're gonna watch this withCora. We hadn't pre watched it or
anything. Even though we had heardthese rumors about this potential quotes agenda that

(15:45):
it was that it was trying topush on children we still sat down and
watched it with Cora. And Imean we watched it with Cora. Yeah,
I mean we very rarely let herwatch anything that we haven't that no
idea about, um. But alsolike it's it's Disney picks are like like

(16:11):
it's very rarely will there be morethan a child can really understand. I
feel like in Disney Pisar, Ithink that they will stretch, um,
a child's mind and imagination and stufflike that. But I don't feel like

(16:34):
they're trying to push social agendas. And I'm saying that in quotes social You
can't see my air quotes social agendason children through their movies now not yet?
Yeah, right, And and Ithink, I mean, they they're
a modern company, and they're gonnaand they're gonna make movies that appeal to

(16:56):
their audience. Yeah, and itseems like that's something that like appeals to
their audience and so that. Butagain, like that's not even really the
point. Although I will say,um, I do think that Pixar has
like dipped their toe into like notreally like I still contend that Soul is
not really a kids movie at all. Oh No, I mean it's animated
And that's about I mean again whenI meant like something that they can't grasp,

(17:22):
it's right, it was if they'renot going to put I don't believe
they're going to put something on screenthat children are going to watch and be
harmed by, is what I mean. And whether you take one subject to
be harmful more harmful than another subject, I don't think any anything that somebody

(17:45):
would potentially think is harmful, yeah, really is going to be brought out
by Pixar, right, you know, But I mean, like you said,
if you're worried about something, don'tgo like, oh I heard blah
blah blah blah blah. Yeah,so we're not going to watch that,
Like that's that's the opposite of growth. Yeah, and you don't. And

(18:11):
you also don't have to like comeout the other side with your mind changed.
But just like right, and youjust do it. Don't have to
watch it. You don't have towatch it. But please don't be getting
on like social media in saying thismovie is all about this, right when
you have not seen it for yourself. Yes, um it. It doesn't

(18:34):
make sense to have an opinion aboutsomething that you know nothing about. Yeah,
that's that's that should be a quoteI love I want to it is
a quote. I just did it. You can quote Natalie from now on.
That was a beautiful thing she hassaid. So here's the deal.
We we watched Luca. We likeLuca. Corea has watched it several times
now. She really enjoys it.It's a really unusual Pixar movie. It's

(18:57):
it's uh. I would say it'smaybe the most light light not lighthearted,
but the lightest from a content standpoint, it's the lightest Pixar film that's ever
existed, very much. So itis just fun. It's a little unfocused
but that but it's fun. It'sjust fun. It's it's not it's not.

(19:18):
And this is something that Pisar hasa tendency to do, like you
said, cramming down something existential downyour throats, like like I mean,
we all love inside out, weall love. I mean Soul was it.
Soul wasn't my favorite, but itwas great. Um, and we
all love movies, the movies thatPixar brings out. But sometimes you can

(19:42):
be you go into it going like, okay, am I going to be
a weeping mess on the floor whenI'm done with this movie. Yeah,
with Luca, there is there isemotion in it. So if they're not
going to set any toys on fire, no likeness, They're not gonna no

(20:02):
toys are going to be sliding downinto a fiery dumpster of despair while holding
hands, and you're you're not goingto have your giant husband sitting next to
you in a theater going that movie. Man got It, Got Rich hard
Man Toy Story three. It hitsyou. It does a one two punch

(20:26):
at the end because it gets youbecause you think that they're all about to
be set ablaze and that's going tobe the end of tory. There was
no way they were going to setall those toys ablaze, and then they
save them and then like two sceneslater, it's like all about giving away
your childhood And that hits Rich.It hits me right in the fields.
Luca's good, Ka's good. Comeinto it, however, you are right,

(20:49):
Come as you are, Come asyou are. Take from it what
you want, Yeah, take fromit, the take from it, the
the the good that it brings you. Yeah, if you are if this
relates to you in a way, that in a way that um like if

(21:10):
you are a member of the ofthe LGBTQ community and this relates to you
in that way, fantastic, watchthis movie and go like this is me
and I see me in this andthis is a movie for me. If
you are not a member of theLGBTQ community and you've just gone through similar

(21:32):
things that Luca or Alberto or Juliahave gone through at some point is everything.
At some point we've all gone outinto the world and had to make
new friends, and that friends havea friendship triangle which I feel like everyone
has had. Like you like thembetter than eat out, Like that's perfect,
it happens, and go into itand come out with that in your

(21:57):
heart, like just know yeah,we uh just really quickly here at the
end of this. We didn't talkabout the cast. The cast is great.
Um. Luca is voiced by Jacobtremblay Um who is just a an
excellent young young child actor. He'she's done, He's done a bunch of
stuff. What's he done? Uh, he would ask me, and well,

(22:18):
I don't know, I don't knowhim, I don't know his name.
Jacob tremblay has been in let's see, he was in uh where what's
the thing. What's the thing thatI'm thinking of? Oh? No,

(22:40):
okay, So he kind of cameon the scene in Room. Oh I
never saw Room. Um, he'she's the Little Room Okay. Um.
And he's been in I mean thatwas just in twenty fifteen, So he's
been in like a movie a yearsure since then. Um. He was
in uh, let's see shut inthe Book of Henry. He was in

(23:03):
The Predator. Okay. Uh.Yeah, he's been in a bunch of
things, apparent. Apparently he's thevoice of Oh. Interesting, he's gonna
be the voice of Flounder in TheLittle Mermaid in the in the live action
little quote you can't see my airquotes the action Little Mermaid. Yeah,
okay, cool, he's in there. Maya Rudolf is in there. She's

(23:26):
the mom. Jim Gaffigan makes hisDisney I think his Disney debut as the
Dad, and he's one of myfavorites. I really like him. Now,
Maya Rudolf in this doesn't sound likeMaya Rudoff to me. Um.
I could hear Jim Gaffagan a lotof times. I can hear those those

(23:47):
actors that have very particular voices Maya. Rudolf to me, doesn't have one
of those crazy stand out voices, but has a unique enough voice where I
can usually tell yeah, she's notall right be a character, right,
so, but she she does agreat job. And I was actually a
little bit surprised to hear that thatwas her. All right, good one.

(24:10):
This has been This has been agood discussion about Luca. Let's take
a quick break in Promoville. Whatdo you say? Great, and we're
back. Um. Natalie always excitedto stop in Promoville. She's got to
get a souvenir at the truck stopevery time. You know, I don't
care about souvenirs. Natalie is oneof the most souvenir ee people. She

(24:36):
has this huge collect I'm just makingstuff up. She doesn't care about things
that's terrible. I like T shirt. Yeah, you like to have a
T shirt from a place. Yeah, and that's why you're wearing that Bucky's
T shirt. I am currently wearinga Buckie's T shirt. Good stuff.
Let's talk about the other thing.Let's talk about the other thing. This

(24:56):
is a this is a joint efforton this particular episode. Yeah, we're
not We're not splitting up this episodewhere because we've had joint Yeah, because
we had a weird couple of weekswhere were we saw a couple of things
together. But yeah, we've seenmore together lately because, like we said,
we can kind have been passing aroundsickness. There's been a lot of
just hang time in the living room. Yeah. The past couple of weeks,

(25:21):
Inspector Gadget, we watched Inspector Gadget. Y'all Okay, So I think
rich was actually surprised because as wewere watching that the Inspector Gadget and we're
talking about the Matthew Broderick Inspector Gadgetyet American superhero comedy film. Um,

(25:41):
as we were watching this every nowand again, I would do a quote
as I was watching through it inrich Wit, how many times have you
seen this? This girl has thismovie and she's got it all in her
memory. I mean, it hadbeen a hot second since I'd seen Inspector
Gadget, but I remember it likewe watched it a lot. Loved an

(26:03):
Inspector Get, loved institution. Twofunny things come out came out of watching
this movie. For me. Oneis um, while this isn't like a
thing that came out of it.It's just like a reminder of how funny
Matthew Broderick is. And also likewhat his like acting situation was in the
late nineties, what his whole actingsituation is, because we were talking about

(26:27):
how like he was sort of sohe was fair Spueller, which is one
of my all time favorite movies, and he was one of those kids like
in the eighties. Yeah, andthen like in the nineties he did a
lot of voice stuff and he dida couple of like silly things like this.
Um. But then of course, like we were talking about, we're

(26:47):
like, yeah, he did amuch of sili thies. I was like
he was also adult Simba in TheLion King, like he was in a
Godzilla. Yeah, he was ina Godzilla. Later on after this he
was in The Producers. Yeah. But that was like in the was like
into the two thousands, like yeah, but just listen to that range that
I just so um. So thatwas the one thing. The other thing

(27:11):
was, um, when when Natalierecognized the villain in this movie whose name
is don't laugh at me. I'mI'm not laughing at you, I'm just
um, she she I don't knowwhy it hit me, but she was
just like, oh, yeah,Rupert Everett. I'm like, what do
we know him. She's like,oh yeah, he's been a ton of

(27:33):
stuff. I was like, hehas. I was like, why has
he been in? She's like, well, he was in my best friend's
wedding and he was in and shelisted like three important and she was like,
you know, the important and theimportance of being earnest and my best
friend's wedding. I'm like, theseare not movies I watch. Like,
I'm not saying I've never seen them, because I have. But she's like,
yeah, obviously he's in these movies. And I'm I was just like,

(27:55):
this is a person. Oh sothings you've seen. I was like,
excuse as you, sir? Yeah, And then what did we watch
the next day where I was like, look, there's Rupert Ever. It
I don't remember. It was avoice he was being he was doing a
voice act um. I can't rememberat the time, But then I was
like, that's him, that's RupertEver. We heard we got him again.

(28:15):
So apparently this is a person whojust like was and he's and he's
a and he's a whole there's alot of voice stuff to his own thing.
Um. So, if you're notfamiliar with Inspector gadget Um, I
learned actually an interesting thing because Idid a quick like pull it up and
let's learn some some facts about Inspectorgadget When do you think Inspector Gadgett came

(28:38):
on the television? Originally? Theoriginal came on the television, Grandma?
Yeah, like, um so sonot the movie you're talking about, like
the old animated version. Right. So for those not in the know,
this movie came out in nineteen ninetynine. It's based on a cartoon show.
When did the cartoon first first airthe seventies? Oh wow, you

(29:00):
went way back it Uh? Itcame on TV in nineteen eighty three.
I'm not too far, You're notfar off. I was surprised. I
thought this was an early nineties cartoon. Well, I remember, I remember
the style and look of it,and it felt seventies to me when I
was thinking back. But I meanearly eighties is close to seventies. I

(29:25):
suppose it originally came on TV andat e three, um with Deek Entertainment,
which I remember. I'm I didn'thave cable. But I remember there
was like a whole uh series ofshows that like at the beginning whenever we'll
be doing like the production or atthe end when it was showing all the
production logos really quickly. One ofthem was always this, it's d I

(29:47):
C Entertainment. It would go deek. It was a little girl boy.
I always thought it was funny.Yeah, because it sounds like a word.
Um anyway, it sounds like aninspector. Gadget is a it says,
I'm just gonna read a quick synopsys. The franchise follows the adventures of
a powerful but dimwitted cyborg police inspectornamed Gadget as he investigates the criminal schemes

(30:11):
of Doctor Claw and his organization Madand Fruitlessly. Mad Mad and Fruitlessly attempts
to stop him. However, neitherside is aware that it's Gadget's niece,
Penny at her dog Brain who aretruly responsible for thwarting Mad. Penny,
played by Michelle Tracktonburg, later wenton to be Harry at the Spy.
She may have been Harry at theSpy before that. Actually, I think

(30:33):
she was Harried the Spy earlier, and then she was gotcha, And I'm
not sure what else Michelle Tracktenburg hasdone since it's Vector Gadget to be honest,
according to I just hovered over hername in Wikipedia. According to Wikipedia,
she's best known for playing Jennifer andeuro Trip. You know, the
sequel to the movie road Trip. No, it's like a raunchy comedy series.

(30:59):
No about college students. No,apparently that's what she's best known for,
Not Harry the Spy and not InspectorGadget. So in this one,
h it's we follow What's is thename? Just John Brown? Um,
he's a he's like a mall securityguard. Yeah, well he's not a

(31:19):
mall, it's like a it's likea laboratory. He's the security for for
the laboratory that, Um, what'sher face is in charge of? Who
dreams of of serving on the actualpolice force and who, for whatever reason,
can't Although he seems like a likefit human h and should have been

(31:41):
able to achieve that dream. SoI feel like it's not clear in the
movie why he can't achieve being apolice officer. He got a letter at
the beginning of the movie, um, saying that he wasn't going to be
accepted. But they didn't really becausehe's a the dim witted maybe it's the
dim witted part. It's kind ofa dummy. Um. But he uh

(32:06):
so he he's involved a terrible accidentand uh he but he saves the life
or attempts. Does he save him? No? He, but he tries
to save the life of this uhresearcher's father who she's working on the Gadget
program, which is like a wayof engineering. They talk about like it's

(32:29):
a way of engineering super soldiers orsomething. Um, and later they're going
to try and glue some rubber duckiesinside of him. Yeah. Um.
The whole thing at the beginning iswe moved the foot like it was important
to them to move a robotic somethingrobotic with their brains. Yeah, it's

(32:50):
actually interesting, Like at the beginning, it's stuff that they were actually trying
to do, like in the nineties, which is like how do you how
do you give someone like a workingprosthetic foot that will move when they want
it to move kind of thing. That's stuff that we were actually trying to
like figure out how to do.And at the beginning, like that's that's
really cool because it's like, ohyeah, and there's like a human looking

(33:13):
foot there. Um. And sobut then so John Brown gets in this
bad accident, She's like, we'regoing to save him. Whatever we have
to do, let's use the gadgetprogram. Right. Therefore, during the
surgery scene, they are putting slinkiesin him, Umbrella's rubber duckies, like

(33:35):
you said, And I was likewhy, yeah, why because like and
we were talking about it. Andthen on the cartoon show, he had
like really he could do a lotof stuff. So he had like he
would have like his hands were likea armie knife, which the kind of
show a little bit, but likehis main things were extended arms and legs

(33:55):
and the helicopter hat and it waskind of it. And and the springs
out the bottom of his shoes werea thing a lot. But they showed
a lot of things like bubbles andballoons and rubber ducks and like really comically
silly stuff. Yeah. Both thenand then later when he's captured spoiler alert.

(34:16):
Um, and they're trying to liketurn create the bad the bad gadget
Clothe who is also played by MatthewBroderick. Um, And yeah, it's
and I know it's a nineties Nickelodeonmovie. Like, right, if the
point was to make a detective,a super detective of a member of the

(34:38):
police force m for the city.I believe they're in San Francisco. Maybe,
Um, if that's the point, then don't fill somebody with rubber ducks
in toothpaste. Yes, there's awhole scene. There's a whole scene where
he's trying to like learn how touse his new abilities, and he goes

(34:59):
go go ga oil slick, whichlike also why but but and then it
starts shooting. This blue goop startsshooting out of his hand, and he's
like, what's going on? Shegoes, that's toothpaste. And there's a
ton of toothpaste. Callan's of toothpastein this man? Why why? I

(35:20):
mean even if you want to makea case for putting toothpaste in him,
like why not more? Why morethan a tube? Why not have a
place where you could replace a toobe? Just how much toothpaste do you think
he needs? It took up alot of his body, masks. Matthew
Roderick has very nice teeth, hedoes, Um, he does have good
teeth. And then his clone selfthe way that they make him look different

(35:44):
in the movie is he's a reallyterrible bleach white veneers. Yeah, that
really make him look pretty creepy.Actually, yeah, super big teeth.
Anyway, it's just a it's asilly this is a silly one. It's
a silly one. But it reallytook me back. It made me really
happy. Um. And there wereseveral times where I was like, oh,

(36:07):
we used to say that all thetime, like a particular quote or
um, oh my brother really likedthat part or something like that. Amy
happy to watch it real quickly. So we talked about Matthew Broderck, Grouper
Everett, Michelle Trachenberg. Um.Also in this movie, uh Andy Dick

(36:30):
plays the sidekick of doctor Clawe, who I don't remember them ever actually calling
him doctor Clawe. Um. Maybethat's more towards the end, although he
gets his claw about halfway through.Yeah, uh he's in there. SHERRYO.
Terry is in there. She's themayor of the town who is like

(36:50):
all about publicity and she and shemaking herself look good. Yes, because
the what's the what's the what's hisname? Hang on, I'm gonna find
the chief of police. The policeguy's name, what's his name, Quimby,
Chief Quimby, who's played by DabneyColeman. Um, so he uh,

(37:19):
he's constantly like, no, you'rereally bad. He's the one who
who tells John he can't be apolice officer. Yeah. And then he's
like on the constant on the vergeof firing him. And then Ryo Terry
shows up and she's like all bubblyand all about uh making sure that he
can stay at the force. Yeah. Um. And then let's see Dabney

(37:39):
Coleman. Oh. And then Dealhugely is the voice of the Gadgetmobile the
car. Yeah. And you knowit's fine. This movie is only seventy
eight minutes long. It's a veryshort movie. Um, it's barely a
movie by those And they did makea sequel starring French Stewart. Yeah.

(38:02):
I don't remember ever really watching thesequel. Did you know they're making a
reboot. They're rebooting it and they'remaking a show. Really Yeah, there's
a there's a cast for Gadget.There's like a three D animated show that's
that's in development, and a rebootfor the film right now. It is

(38:24):
in the being written days, gotcha, there's no no actors attached to that
project yet. Let's take a quickquick think. Who would we want to
cast for Inspector Gadgets. Well, there's a couple of ways you can go,
So you can go just a straightup. Are we being silly or
are we being serious? Is thislike a gritty Is this a gritty reboot

(38:49):
a Gotham version of right? Yeah? If if it's Gotham version, yeah,
benedictcumber Boots, bendybum cumber Boot.I don't know, because he's kind
of like that tall, linky kindof saying. I'm thinking body type um

(39:09):
has to be a part of it, you know, who would be interesting
and who hasn't I feel like wehaven't heard from in a second, and
who could do the goofiness and alsobring a seriousness to it. Andrew Garfield.
Yeah, because he's a few yearsold. Now, he's not a
young he's not a kid anymore, but he's not like old. Yeah,

(39:29):
he probably retired. You think heretired, I don't know. From being
dodg just flipped out. She gotshe is apparently just super itchy and really
scratched from ear good. Um yeah, um, one more thing about this.

(39:51):
Oh, I guess let's finish thethree cast Andrew Garfield. Who would
be the silliest option, the silliestoption. Matthew Broderick, do it?
Um? Let's yeah? I meanyeah, he could come back, Phillia's
option. Sasha Baron, Baron,Sasha Baron Cohen? Um, who would

(40:15):
be someone like the right age,the right age? Yeah? Like who?
Like if we were doing it now, we wanted to make let's say
we wanted to make exactly the moviethey made, but we're making it now,
dear, who would who exactly theMatthew Broderick. Who's Matthew Brodrick,
who's like mid thirties Matthew Broderick. Now, oh man, that's that's what

(40:39):
we got to figure out those shakingOh my goodness, I'll have to let
it. I'll have to really thinkthat one through. I don't know if
we have one. Do we haveone of those? Do we run out
of Matthew Brodricks. There's only everbeen one? Oh no, what are

(41:00):
we gonna do? Keep living keeping? Maybe just don't make anymore inspector gadgets?
Yeah, we could stop making those. Speaking of which, um,
there have been a million versions ofthis show. It came out in nineteen
eighty three, and then there werethere were a bunch of specials, and

(41:22):
then there was Gadget Boy, waslike a version of Inspector Gadget that got
introduced that didn't really pan out.Uh there's a there's a short call or
not short but like a feature calledGadget and the Gadget teenies, and then
uh, Gadget Girl was was developedand canceled, and Gi Gadget was also

(41:46):
developed and canceled as well as anattempted reboot for the series in two thousand
and nine. So like they there'ssomething that they see in Inspector Gadget.
Yeah it has potential, Yeah,it has a lot of potential. Sure,
it's just can you do it right? You know? And I,
you know what, I've been thinkinga lot lately, and I don't like,

(42:06):
ultimately this shouldn't happen because it wouldkind of ruin the specialness. But
there's almost nothing that you couldn't makea really good reboot out of by doing
like the animation style of Spider Maninto the Spider Verse. What about hold
On, hold On, go ahead? What about the guy I'm with you
that plays Steve on Stranger Things.Okay, yeah, let's find his name

(42:35):
real quick, because he would bea great option. I could see that
happening. And he feels like theright age. Uh huh, Steve from
Stranger Things, Joe kiriy Sure,he'd be great. Now. I don't
know if he has Matthew Broadreck esquetendencies, but that's not necessarily what I

(42:59):
was looking for. I was tryingto think of somebody that could come in
at the right age and kind oftake it and potentially have like us,
not a silliness, but like bringsome humor to it, but also make
it good. Yeah. Sure, and I like him good, he's good.
Yeah, I like him. Um, I would I would support that

(43:20):
if if if you were, ifyou voted to make movies, that'd be
fine. There'd be no reason tovote against him. Look at our dog.
She's so such a weird dog.Now she's lying on her back as
if someone was offering to scratch herbelly, and no one is. Nobody's
even around her, no one's evenclose. This has been an episode of

(43:42):
not suitable for a surprised a littlebit get used to it is? This
is this one gonna take we'll seewe're back. Well, we're very hopefully
back every single week. I reallyhope so. Um, well, I'm
I've kind of forgotten some of oursign off stuff. Thank you to Shad

that would care about it, huh, spread the word. Spread the word
even if I mean, you cancare about it too and tell other people.

(45:15):
But I'm just saying, like, you don't have to like us,
but if you know somebody else thatwould also tell them about us, like
that us us. Yes. Whatnow he's saying is there's a chance you
didn't like the last forty five minutesof content, but you might have someone
in your life who would absolutely justthink about those people. Yeah, are

(45:38):
you being so selfish? Think aboutsomeone else for a second. Don't be
selfish, geez, Karen. Butalso, thank you so much because yeah,
thanks really? Oh man, Okay, we gotta we gotta wrap this
babe up. You know, weknow there's tons of options out there right

(46:00):
now. There's lots of streaming, there's lots of TV. There's a regular
old cable, Um what what whatis this? People still have it?
Not us, but some people. It's gonna come back around and people are
gonna go like, have you guysheard of cable? Listen? No joke.
I was thinking about that the otherday. I heard someone I know
I was closing it out. Wewere so close, and I'm going to
say something else, but there wassomeone who's talking about, like, I

(46:22):
wish that there was a way forme to pay just like one price and
get a bunch of those streaming thingslike all together, and I would pay
like seventy dollars a month for that, And I'm like, that's just cable.
That's just cable with on demand. That's what that is. Um.
But listen, all those options areout there, um and and there's even
there's more stuff than ever for kids. There's don't forget that when you're in

(46:44):
front of the TV, you arethe boss, So watch whatever you want.
