(00:14):
All right, you were going todo it. You thought I was going
to do you took a breath ofright, when I took a breath,
I know, welcome to not suitablefor adults. The podcasts, where the
shows and the things that we talkedabout are for kids. And yet where
are the grown ups? Well, usually we're Usually we're the grown ups.
Are usually the things we talk aboutfor kids, Usually we're the grown ups.
(00:35):
I see, Oh man, it'sbeen a little bit again. Yeah,
we've had a I mean, I'mdone making excuses at this point.
You know what's weird is um likeall during most of the pandemic, so
most of the existence of this podcastwas during the the year that time.
(00:56):
Wish it could forget twenty twenty. It hasn't. It hasn't stopped. And
we went we recorded where we can'tstop, not stopping here. I never
stopped, never stopping. Um,but we we barely missed an episode in
twenty twenty and twenty twenty one hasbeen like we didn't have anything to do
in twenty twenty twenty one has beena mine field of busyness and sickness and
(01:19):
technology issues. Um. And sowe're sorry. I think we were sick
two weeks ago, and then wehad actually family visiting last week, so
it was it's just been yeah,a whirlwind, whirlwind, But thank you
for coming back and listening. Dearlistener, you already know we're not going
(01:42):
to be here every week, butwe want to be. We we're like
a debeat Oh no, oh no, sorry, I don't know if that's
what we are. Oh anyway,So yeah, we're here now, and
we're going to talk about some thingsthat we that we watched together. This
(02:06):
will be coming a little bit laterin the episode. But we finally broke
down. We finally got HBO Max. I don't think it was much of
a breakdown, though, wasn't Webroke down with the weight of the we
did it for you really, noteven for we did it for our for
our loyal tens of fans. Iwas gonna say, who did we do
(02:30):
it? We did it for thetens of fans out in the world.
Anyway. Um, yeah, wewe did finally get HBO Max, which
meant that we could watch a coupleof the things that you can only watch
there, and we'll talk about thosein a little bit. But I wanted
to talk about something else. Firstone is about how old we are.
(02:50):
I'm not that old. No,neither of us are that old. Honestly,
we're in our mid thirties. Andthe thing is that I had two
thoughts recently. I told you aboutone of them. Um, I had
two thoughts recently that made me feellike the oldest person in the world.
Oh, um, I'm gonna I'mtrying to remember the second one now off
(03:12):
hand. It's been a second sinceI since I had the thought. But
here was one, Um I was. Actually I told you about one the
other day. Do you remember whatI told you? I felt, I
said something I was like that mademe feel really old. I thought I
had just now I don't remember.Okay, well, here's one of them.
I'll remember. I remember one ofthem. I'm trying to remember the
second one off the top of myhead. Now, I had it a
minute ago. So okay, there'sthe third one. Now that there's proof
(03:35):
that I'm getting old because you forgotimmediately, thies are just flying out of
my head. Here's one, umI was. This has nothing to do
with kids, shoes or anything. It's just that I realized how how I
was. I was listening to anotherpodcast, and they were doing an ad
for Rothy's Shoes UM which which weare not sponsored by. We're not doing
(03:58):
an ad for, but if you'refamiliar with them. So they started offering
men shoes and the type of shoethey offer is a loafer, okay,
And I was like, oh,I was like, you know, I
had this thought. I was like, you know, when I was a
kid, a loafer was like areally old man type type of shoes.
Right when you just said loafer,I thought of old man in a suit
right going to business. But Iwas like, but you know what,
(04:20):
loafers are actually really comfortable. Andthen I went, oh, no,
it's just because I'm thirty five. Now I'm old and yeah, and now
I'm like, I just want apractical comfortable shop. I have wanted a
practical comfortable shoe since I was inmy twenties. So I am not the
(04:44):
high heels kind of girl. Ihave a pair of heels for when I
need them, but I don't wearheels. So and then the other one
I just remembered, oh there is. And then the other thing was the
other day I was on my way. I don't go to I don't drive
to who work very often. Thisis for the Natalie knows that I'm telling
you, Why really, where doyou go? So? I work from
(05:11):
home most days, but I goI drive into work one day week,
mainly so that I can then goto another thing that I have after work
that's near where I work, Yes, because I live far from we live
far from his place of business.Yeah, and I'm very fortunate to be
able to work from home. Butso I was on my way to work,
I started feeling sick and I andI had to stop. And I
(05:31):
was near where my parents live now, and so I just I was like,
hey, I'm I don't think Ican drive anymore for right now?
Can I stop at your house withthe sickness where you did not want to
be in your car? Right? It's one of you know, when you're
sick and you got to get outof your car. It's one of those.
Yeah. And so they're like, yeah, come on over, And
so I went over to their houseand I went and like to sort arrestingly
(05:56):
down and this is what you toldme the other day. Yeah. So
when I got out, my momI was like, Hey, do you
want some pepto bismol? And Iwas like yeah, because that's not something
that we like. We don't keepthat stocked to our house. That's the
stuff, okay. Um. Andso I was like, yeah, that's
a good idea. And so shebrought it to me and I took my
little dose of it out of thecap, and like within ten minutes,
(06:19):
my stomach was felt a lot better. And I was like, man,
pepto bismol. We should have someof that around the house. And oh
no, oh no. So I'mthinking of my grandparents and something they always
have around is like pepto. Yeah, you gotta have the air masks.
And then they also have milk ofmagnesian. So I'm thinking the next time
(06:44):
we have both pepto and milk ofmagnesia in our house, that's when we
can officially call ourselves old. Iwas so the other day. So the
other day I went and ran anerrand because Natalie takes a different kind of
manast is fairly regularly. Yeah,um, And I was picking that up
for we're old. We need well, you have a different thing like you
have, you have some like yourstomach. I have an actual condition.
(07:09):
And so I was picking it upfor Natalie and right there next to it
was the pepto bismol is almost likemaybe I should just spipe the bullet.
Maybe it's just going to pick upthe good pink bottle and just and just
arrive. I've arrived. Then youcome into your old wife and say,
here's your an asset bought some peptobismol, and here are here's a bottle
(07:34):
of probiotics that I also bought, which you literally did right. Um.
Anyway, so the whole point isthat I feel like I've aged two decades
since we last spoke everyone, andthat's just where we are, that's where
we live now. I mean,I feel old because we've had family in
(07:55):
town, which I absolutely love.I love to see them. I don't
get to see my ka home afamily very often, so when I do,
I try to take out the timethat I can to go see them.
And we I took Cora several places. I would take her over to
my grandparents house several times, andthen also I drove to like Chattanooga,
(08:18):
and also I drove to and thenafter driving to Chattanooga to do the aquarium,
then I also took Cora to seerichest parents and stuff like that.
And I literally have been laying onthe couch all weekend, exhausted because I'm
like, I drove to Chattanooga. No, yeah, so that's yeah,
(08:41):
that's the other thing. I guess, like I'm just I'm just tired.
Yeah, it's like I left allthe time. I have the house twice
this week, I'm going to doit again. Well, I've left the
house a lot more than you didthis week, don't You're right? I'm
not downplaying the amount that you leftthe house. Yes, but like also
just the idea of taking a napwould be so good. Wow, I
don't remember the last time I tooka nap. I have to be actually
(09:05):
sick. Yeah. Yeah, Sowe're old. So we're old. And
if sorry, if you're older thanus, because Rich did say his age
earlier. Yeah, and I'm actuallyjust a little bit younger than him.
So yeah, and this isn't likeI know that that's I realize that I'm
not that I'm fine. And there'snot an age that you become old because
(09:28):
there are so many people who areeven older than than we are who are
active felt old. Oh, whenwe were watching Black Widow, so Cora
went to be with Rich's parents overnightand they had a fun, fun sleep
overnight and then Rich and I decidedto premiere access stream because Natalie was too
(09:50):
tired to go to the movie earlier, like should we go to the movies?
No, that's literally how tired Iwas. I was like, I
don't want to get off the couch, so let's pay stru to stay home,
which was amazing. Um but wewere streaming Black Widow and we're not
talking about Black Widow, but um, Rich was like, Scarlett Johansson's looking
(10:15):
a little old in this movie, older of course than what she was like
as as like the first her firstrendition of Black Widow right, like,
I mean that was some years ago. Um So Rich was like, I
wonder how old Scarlett Joanson. She'sonly she's only like, she's only like
(10:37):
fifteen months older than I am.She's just like a year older than Rich.
And Rich I think had an existentialcrisis for a second because he just
kept going, oh h h.It hurt me to realize, and the
thing is, it's not me going. That was not me going, oh
(10:58):
I'm as old as Scarlett Joe,because I don't think that. I don't
to be clear, like I wasn'tsaying that she and you know this,
but like she I wasn't saying like, oh she looks old. No,
you were just saying the last movieshe was in. Yeah, and that's
just you know, because we're humans. But um, then Rich was like,
(11:18):
oh my goodness, she's my age. Yeah. So yeah, there's
that. You always want, um, the person you're watching on TV to
be older than you so that youdon't feel like you've done nothing with you
right right, Oh my goodness.Okay, all right. So then there
was one more thing I wanted totalk about before we started talking about movies,
(11:41):
and that is um sort of afandom thing. And this again,
it's not really in the it's notreally in sort of our niche. So
I'm sorry to like take us ona on a tangent, but I felt
really strongly about this um over thelast couple of weeks, and I'm like,
whatever platform we have, which againis not a tall platform, but
(12:03):
whatever platform we have, I wantedI wanted to really quick talk about like
how terrible like gatekeep gate Keeping isin uh in like nerd fandoms like star
Wars and uh and you know, done and Dragons and all the sort of
things that we like, really enjoyum nerd stuff mainly. UM, I
(12:26):
just want to talk about this becauseI, um, something I haven't had
a chance to do in a whilebecause we most of most of what I
consume over the last year and ahalf has been for the podcast, and
and a lot most of that Ienjoy, so like I'm not that's no
complaint, but I haven't like hada real chance to go back and watch
like the Star Wars movies, whichI enjoy. Um. But another thing
(12:50):
is that like, um, andwe've talked about this before, and you
are free to disagree with me,fellow adult, but I really enjoy the
the sequel Star Wars movies. Ithink that they're a lot of fun.
I think they look really cool.Um. I I much prefer the sequels
over the prequels. I M Ilike them all. So I'm I know,
(13:13):
I know Wars, but but mypoint is it in our marriage,
our marriage, just like maybe inour in our friend friends. Yeah,
um we so so I really enjoythose, but I've had a hard time
going back and watching them because whileI really enjoy them, I also acknowledge
that there's some weird things about thesequels. UM and and bear with me
(13:39):
for a moment while I talk aboutthis, particularly because I think this applies
across a lot of things. Um, So, I recognize there's a lot
of things, but I have funwhen I watched them. Yeah, but
I've been having trouble lately like watchingthem, mainly because I remember all the
like really toxic stuff that people putout about how much they d people have
jaded your point of view. Yes, so I can't not see all the
(14:01):
negative stuff and so, uh soI haven't. I haven't watched them in
a second. And uh and soI wanted to one call out this is
if you're like a big Star Wars, you gotta be a big Star Wars
nerror to enjoy this YouTube channel.I'm going to recommend it's called ordinary adventures.
Um, it's adventures or adventures Okay, ordinary adventures. I couldn't tell
(14:26):
if you said adventures or adventurers.Oh, no, adventures okay. Um.
And this is a this is acouple who basically have I don't know
where they got their money, butthey have lots of it. And there's
a lot of people that in thisworld and their and their thing they love
the most is Star Wars and they, from what I can tell, are
like me. They at whatever comesout that Star Wars They're like, give
(14:50):
me more of it, like Iyea. Um, they enjoy everything that
comes out. And they talked aboutin one one thing they do is like
go every couple of weeks and anotherlightsaber from like the Disney World like shop
where it's like two hundred fifty bucksa pop. Um. Yeah, so
they live close to Disney World.Yeah, fairly close. Um, And
(15:11):
so they but they go when theyget these And they were talking about one
of the ones from this they werebuying from the sequels, and the girl
was like, if you can't tell, this is the one I'm here for
today. And she was wearing aRise of Skywalker t shirt with like ray
on it, and I was likethat is like so it so refreshing.
Yeah, to see not just peoplewho agree with me, because I think
(15:33):
I want to hedge the idea thatyou that you should like just be encouraged
by people who agree with you, because, like I said, I fully
acknowledge the stuff in those movies thatisn't great. Um, but like having
someone who wasn't gonna say like I'mno, that doesn't exist to me,
that's that ruined my childhood. Thatkind of thing, um just really it
(15:54):
bums me out and it makes menot want to enjoy the things that are
good, that these that are comingout. And actually this kind of applies
to the movies that we're going totalk about here in a little bit,
like come to think of it,I mean, the thing is is that
that falls on you. Yeah, right, it's not someone's it's not someone
else's problem. Like I have aproblem with the Prequels, Yeah, I
(16:17):
really do. I think they're terrible. But that shouldn't keep you from liking
the Prequels, right, And Iwill argue with you from dusk till dawn
why the Prequels are terrible. Yeah, But I never expect you to change
your mind about something you love, right, because of how I feel.
(16:41):
But a lot of people do dothat. They they expect everyone to hate
the thing that they hate well,or or even just to just to like.
So there's there's even two sides ofthis sort of talxic thing. I'm
going to keep using Star Wars becausethat's the thing that I know best.
But like like I said, thishappens in in video games. This happens
(17:02):
in other movie fandoms like this happensin all the superhero movies. So if
that's a thing that you're into,if you're into a nerd thing this,
there are people like this in yourcommunity. On both sides, there's people
who are like, no, thenew stuff is trash and it's not real.
Dungeons of Dragons fifth editions just waterdown three point five I only play
three point five editions were hard corednerds. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna
(17:26):
watch the new I'm not gonna Allthese new Marvel movies are trash because they're
just they don't pay they don't payenough respect to their comics and that kind
of thing. So there's all thatkind of people. But there's also people
who are like, and I wasalmost like this for a second night because
I because I I personally agree withthis philosophy. There are also people are
like, you're not a true fanunless you unless you want to consume at
(17:48):
all. Um. So there areother people who who I think have an
equally sort of toxic effect. Wellmaybe not equally because there's like a lot
of negativity on the other side. But but there are also people who are
like who gate keep in another waywhere it's like if you want to accept
everything, then you're out. You'reout of the club too, You're out
of the club, I think.I mean, what it boils down to
is like what you like and don'tcare what other people think about it.
(18:11):
And this is sort of what we'vetalked about when we've done the like let's
talk about art for a second inthe last few episodes. Is like,
me enjoying these movies doesn't make youhave to watch them, right, and
me enjoying the prequels doesn't Like ifyou can be you can be a Star
Wars fan and not like the prequels, you just don't watch them and you
watch the parts that you like andenjoy them. I know everything there is
(18:33):
to know about the prequels. I'veseen them several times. Yeah. I
don't like them. Yeah yeah.And that doesn't mean I'm less of a
Star Wars fan than someone else outthere. I just kind of, you
know, choose more of what Iwould like to consume versus what I don't
want to consume. Some things giveme the hebe gebs like Hayden Christensen,
(19:00):
and some things don't like and that'snot that's not anybody's problem but mine.
There's a UM, I'm so sorryif you're not a Star Wars fan and
you're listening to this episode. Um, there was a really like touching momentum
after after Disney bought Lucasfilm, theywere going to do another uh every year
(19:26):
there had been a Star Wars conventioncalled Celebration, and it was going to
be the first Celebration convention post Disneypurchase. Which I have to say,
you've been to Celebration and you havehis signature? Whose signature? I have
actually a couple of signatures. Ihave Peter Mayhew's signature who played Chewbacca,
(19:48):
and it's not passed away, whichis really really cool. He signed my
past. It's not cool that hepassed away. No, no, no,
no, no, I'm sorry,it's cold that he signed it.
Yes, he signed my He signedmy pass and I also got this less
important um, but I also gotthe signature of the guy who plays Grido.
Yeah, um, he also signedmy past. YEA. It was
(20:10):
one of those things where like Ihad a certain amount of money. Peter
may he was the biggest person atthe one that I would say almost all
your money on Peter Mayson got hisand then it was like I got ten
bucks, Greedo, that'd be cool, and so that guy signed it too.
Um. Yeah, so yes,I have been the celebration. It
was a lot of fun. Um. But um, the first celebration post
(20:32):
Disney purchase. Um, Hayden Christensen. They like they wanted to bring everyone,
so they got everyone that they could. Yeah, and Hayden Christensen like
didn't go to celebration because people dumpedon him so much. Yeah, because
a lot of people just didn't likehis portrayal, which I think like over
the years, peoples his heart. He did not do a fantastic job.
(20:55):
I mean I think most he wasa very young actor, and I feel
like that showed. But we're notgoing to go into I'm just gonna say
I think a lot of people agreenow that like, yes, he was
a fresh actor, but also alot of the problems in that movie weren't
even him because because he was ina lot of really great movies at the
same time, and he did agood job was given. I'm sorry this
is turning into a Star Wars podcast. We need to wrap this up.
(21:18):
I know I'm almost done. Okay, there's just a really touching moment because
he was there and when he cameout, he got this huge ovation from
everyone that was there. Yeah.Um which which he had been avoiding said
he didn't go. He did go. He he had not been he had
not been going to celebration, buthe came to this one first. When
he had gone to he came tothis one and they didn't interview with him,
(21:41):
and he was like, I justcouldn't believe it. He was like,
I just like he felt like hewas back. He felt like he
was back, and I just thoughtit was such a touching thing for him.
Anyway, Yes, we have talkedabout this now for a while.
We could talk about Star Wars.My point is long time. We're going
(22:03):
to talk about two movies for therest of this episode that are like fresh
takes, yes on old things.Absolutely, And the first one we're gonna
talk about is Scoob Scoob, whichI have talked about on this podcast.
Scooby Doo Where are You? Yeah, I grew up, grew up watching
(22:25):
is hard to say because we didn'treally have cable until I was cable.
We didn't have cable until I wasolder. But there were times when we
would watch TV, like at mygrandparents house or something, and we loved
watching Scooby Doo. Where are you? So? Were you a big you
(22:47):
didn't watch as much Scooby Doo?Right, Yeah, I was familiar,
but it was so I think itwas like I think I got to the
point with Scooby Doo where I waslike, once I had watched about ten
episodes, I was like, Iget it. Yeah, yeah, I
mean it's it's the same thing overand over, but it's fun. Um.
So watching Scoobe by the way, which was a film that just came
(23:10):
out last year, um, itwas a lot of fun. It made
me It kind of took me backa little bit, um to those times
when I was watching it. Uhyeah, so, uh Scube is a
new one. I just said thatit was released last year. I'm sorry.
(23:33):
I was trying to get information pulledup on that while you were while
you were talking about you weren't listening. I was listening, but not apparently
all the way. Um, sothis is a new one. This one
sort of goes back and it doesa an origin yes for Scoobe. Yeah,
we see how Scooby and Shaggy meat, and we see how Scooby and
Shaggy and the rest of the gangmeat. So Scooby and Shaggy meat first.
(23:57):
Well, yeah, we see themmeet first, um, just as
a neither one of them have friends. Yeah, and it's really cute because
Shaggy's trying to have a picnic withum, with people that he's built out
of sand. Yeah, his family'slike, you need to go make some
friends, and so he goes andmakes He goes makes sand people on the
(24:18):
beach. It's the fattest, buthe has He's having a picnic and he's
talking to these people. He's beingout of his sand and Scooby's there and
he comes out and he's like, you know, I like sandwiches too,
so let's eat a sandwich together. So um. Then they become friends and
he gives him his collar, hegives him the Scooby collar, and he's
(24:41):
like, you know, we're goingto be best friends forever. Um.
Then Halloween night happens. They're goingaround, um um trick or treating and
they don't want to go into thisparticular house because it's haunted. Right.
But then m oh, first, some bullies show up, conscientious bullies bullies
(25:06):
show up and they're like, um, give us their candy. They're like
no, They're like when you sayconscientious, you mean because of that they
what they do when they come upand threaten them. They say they try
and take their candy and they're like, you don't need to eat all this
candy. It's bad for you. It's like it like hurts your teeth like
(25:27):
um. And then the bullies takeit away and throw it into the widow
widow into the window of the hauntedhouse. And these bullies are like being
mean. But who was to showup but um Freddie, Daphne, and
Velma as children who are already friends, who are already friends. We didn't
(25:51):
see them become friends. They're alreadyfriends. Um Freddie's dressed as like this
night and shining armor, and umDaphne's dressed as wonder Woman yep, and
Velvia's dressed as Ruth Vaderkins yep yea. And um, so they were like,
no, let's go get your candyin their and so they go in
(26:14):
and that's when they um de masktheir first ghost and um it becomes this
friendship where they become mystery mystery ink. Uh why am I feeling like that's
not right, but I think that'sright. Yeah. Yeah, they become
Mystery Ink and that's what they do. They go around and they demask,
(26:38):
they debunk ghosts, and the implicationis that, so then there's a flash
forward of the the Wikipedia page hasit's a ten year jump, and the
implication is that, like we seethe interest, we see the beginning,
and then all the adventures of ScoobyDoo happen, and then we sort of
pick up on like, Okay, now we're up to date, right kind
(27:03):
of thing. So, um,do you want to take over for a
little bit. I've been talking alot. No, it's fine. So
so they I'm trying to remember basicallythey they they're wanting to Yeah, they're
wanting to like expand the business ofmystery and Canadian investor Simon Cowell as Simon
Cowell. All of it's animated,by the way, this is not live
(27:26):
action. This is animated. SoSimon Cowell as Simon Cowell, voicing Simon
Cowell. He comes in and basicallyhas a business meeting with them, and
he's not impressed by Scooby and Shaggy. No, He's like I would love
for mystery ink to continue, andI am willing to invest in this,
but you have to get rid ofScooby and Shaggy. Yeah, because they're
two bonkers, I guess. Yeah. So they kind of wander off.
(27:49):
They they leave because their feelings gethurt, and they go to this bowling
alley and while they're at the bowlingalley, they get attacked by shape shifting
robots. Yes, you know, like life happens, like life happens in
a weird bowling alley. Um,and they're actually they end up getting rescued
by h by this like Superhero, which is which which is unexpected. It
(28:14):
doesn't feel I felt okay, sothis movie, yeah, it felt like
they could have done without the superheroaspect, which but the Superhero brought on
a whole level of another level oflearning. The superhero had to learn to
kind of like be himself and notlive in someone else's shadow. Um.
(28:38):
And then of course, like thissuperhero is kind of one of those uh
daft, daft. We've been watchinga lot of Doctor Who's So I have
a lot of British words in myhead. So he's kind of um,
he's kind of uh. I canonly think of British words that's okay are
(29:00):
dull and blosh and um thick um. He's not interested super much in being
a superhero, so um, Ican see where the like learning happens,
like because he learns to be himselfand to be a superhero and stuff.
(29:21):
But this is Scooby Doo. Itfeels like not superhero. It shouldn't necessarily
be superhero tomorrow. And there's severalthings in this that are like that.
So well, we won't do afull very new take on Scooby Doo.
Yeah. Well and it's different too, so um, so we won't do
like a full beat by be necessarilybreakdown, right. Um. So they
(29:45):
get they get rescued by the superherowho's like a superhero that Shaggy really looked
up to as a as a child, the Blue Falcon um. But it
wasn't that his like dad or so. Yeah, so it's a blue Falcon
but like the original blue Falcon hasretired and now the son's taking up the
mantle and the man and the son'slike I don't know, but he has
(30:06):
a sidekick called Dino Mutt yes um, who is voiced by um Kin Chong
kN Jong yes and he's really good. Um and the sidekick superhero d d
Skies uh. And and so theyhave this sort of like team that actually
they're real live crime fighters. Yeah. Uh. And like Dino mut is
(30:27):
like basically inspector gadget but a dog. Um like he he has like extendo
parts and he's basically just a robotwith a real dog's head on. Um.
And Um Blue Falcon or son ofBlue Falcon, who is now Blue
Falcon is also voiced by Mark Wahlberg. Yes, but you can tell if
you mean he's got he's got thatvoice. He just has the voice.
(30:49):
Um. So yeah, they getpicked up by them, and it turns
out that that Scooby is being uhis being pursued because he's he's connected to
this like ancient myth about Alexander theGreat and Alexander the Greats like mystical treasure.
(31:10):
And it turns out that the villainof the movie, Dick Dastardley is
trying to is trying to uncover thisall the clues he needs to to unlock
this treasure, which I think ifyou're a old Scooby Doo fan, you
will recognize Dick Dastard. So thisis what I was looking at before when
I when I when you tuned meout for a little bit, just for
(31:30):
a second, because I had to. I had to find the information on
Dick Dastardly, Right, Dick Dastardleyis like an old Hannah Barbara if you
like that kind of So he madean appearance in several things, um,
but the main thing he tended toshow up in was Yogi Bear. Okay,
See, I felt like when wewere watching this, I felt like,
(31:53):
because I don't even know why, because maybe, um, um,
shoot the squirrel. Rocky and Bullwinkle, are they Hannah Barbara? I'm not
sure because as we were watching it, Okay, as we were watching it,
I felt like he was a Rockyand Bullwinkle villain because he has the
(32:14):
dog with him, the sidekick dog. But for maybe I'm thinking of someone
different, because he did not feellike he he did not feel like he
He didn't belong there, he didn'tbelong in Scooby Doo. But he was
recognizable, right, Yeah, Sojust a quick rundown. So Dick Dashley
like first showed up in the latesixties and a show called Wacky Races,
(32:37):
and he was like he was likethe bad guy racer in that show,
and that was like a Hannah Barbarathing, and then it spun out into
he started making appearances, so likehe and Mutley had their own show called
Dashley Mutley and Their Flying Machines. And then he showed up in Yogi stuff,
and then he went back and forth, and like this racing thing would
(32:59):
come back every now and then,so he would show up there too.
So he's a recognizable villain as faras like old animation and cartoons go.
But he doesn't feel like he belongsin Scooby Doo. But it's just because
he's a part of different types ofanimation. Barbara, Dude, it looks
like through the years he's shown upin basically almost a lot of things now
(33:24):
that that are now on by CartoonNetwork. He's shown up at a lot
of Cartoon Network things. It's justa generic feels cartoon Network, right,
catwork is creepy. Sure, somecartoon network is creepy. Now, was
putting your foot down? Cartoon Networkis creepy? It is, okay,
I mean if you think of justlet's let's continue. Okay, we can
(33:47):
talk about Cartoon Network another time theytended to do they tend to do more
a little more cowardly dog, alittle up. Yes, they did scary
things. Yeah. Yeah. Sothe the way that the Scooba is a
little bit different from normal Scooby Doois there's real there's real magic and real
(34:07):
ghosts in this one gang real magic, there's real ghosts. Well it's it's
not so they they are tackling theCiberus Cerberus, Cerberus, and he is
an ancient Yeah, he's an ancientbeing. Yeah. And he's hug so
and he's huge. It's like athree headed dog or something like that.
(34:30):
So it's like it's almost like mythicalGreek type of thing. Yeah, um,
which they do. But the bigbattle happens in Athens. Right,
that's the point of it. So, um, it's a mythical thing rather
than a guy dressed up in acostume with wires like which is the usual
(34:53):
stick for Scooby Doo. Right, yeah, there is. Um, I
will spoil this one thing the end, well all of this everyone should know.
These are always spoiling. I know. I just want to say because
this is one of the one ofthere's a lot of fun moments in this
movie where we're talking about how it'snot it doesn't feel like a normal Scooby
Doo. It's pretty fun. No, it's fun. It's just that it's
(35:14):
not traditional Scooby Doo. Right,Yeah, but they do throw in a
lot of the tropes, so likethere are there are moments when they run
through a bunch of doors chasing eachother and then the wrong person chasing the
wrong person, they run into eachother, and then right at the end
they they have Dick Dastardly trapped andthey're like, let's see who's really behind
this, and they're all like whatAnd they go to rip off and he
(35:36):
rips off Dick Dastarley's face, andSimon Cowell is there and they go Simon
cow and he's like, oh allyou all you kids, I would have
gotten away with it too, andthey're they're like, it't make sense and
they pull it again and it's DickDastardley again under Simon Cowley goes, oh
drat. They never go for thedouble mask revealtad on Simon Cowell's face,
(35:58):
which head on Dick Dusty leets, right, So they do ridiculous, Yeah,
so they do. They do allthe they do all the tropes for
Scooby Doo. Um, it's it'sa lot of fun. It's everyone learns
more about themselves. Everyone's friendships arechallenged, and ultimately they come together to
be best friends. Um. Friendshipis the name of the game with this
(36:22):
movie. It's it's Scooby Doo andShaggy and their original like friendship being tested
in lay. But the secret wasfriendship. The secret was inside them all
along all that. So that's Scoob, that's Scoob. It's uh, it's
fun. It's fun. If you'rea Scooby Doo fan, you'll enjoy it.
(36:43):
I just wanted to really quick.Oh, we didn't talk about the
cash. We didn't talk about thecast. Go ahead and go ahead and
run it down. Um. ScoobyDoo is played by h Frank Welker,
who very often plays Scooby Doo.He is the only member of the original
cast. He very often played ScoobyDoo. But he also was Fred.
(37:04):
But he is not Fred, notin this one. He's not Fred.
And this also worth mentioning. Whilewe're talking Aboutcooby Doo, Scoop. Scoop
talks a lot in this movie.Scoop talks full sentences. Yeah, he's
not just raggy. It's a grossthere's like it's like it's like, Raggy,
you're my brush, Fredd, Iwill never leave you ever. It's
(37:24):
like that's how if we were sittingthere going why Scooby talking so much?
Yeah, he talks a lot.It's just a lot. It's not I
mean, it's fine, No,it's just it's more than he's ever talked
before. He just talks. Hetalks like, um, a real dog.
Yeah. So I mentioned Mark Wahlbergplays Brian the New Blue Falcon.
(37:51):
Yes, um Will Forte is Shaggy. Um. Gina Rodriguez is Velma.
And I wanted to mention really quicklyis that they did they made Velma more
Latina. Um. And she sayssome Spanish words some and she has a
(38:12):
little bit of I've noticed darker skinthat they animated, and I'm like,
super cool, Like they made Velmamore Latina and that's um, one little
thing that is a little bit different, but I think that was needed.
Um. Zach Efron is Fred, which I think zac Efron doesn't do very
(38:35):
many animated voiceovers. So when Iwas listening, I was like, Okay,
we like to listen when we're doingum animated movies. We like to
listen and see, like, Okay, we know this is mostly a star
studded kind of cast, and we'retrying to listen because so we knew like
Mark Mark Wahlberg pretty quickly. Um, but we were listening. I was
(38:59):
like, okay, hey, Iknow that voice, but it doesn't feel
like a normal animation voice. Andit was zac Efron. And then Amanda
sat Cyperid I can never say hername correctly is Daphne. Um. We
also have uh likely said Ken Jongis um the robot dog, Yes,
(39:21):
and um. Dick Dastardley is playedby Jason Wising. It's so good.
It's such a weird role for Jasonisis that I really like it a lot.
Then we have Simon Cowell and um, um several other Henry Winkler I
was just gonna say. Henry Winkleris in here as as one of Blue
Falcons like assistants and there in theirbase when they get there, So that's
(39:45):
funny. That is funny. ChristinaHendricks is in here as Officer Jeff,
who is another uh disguise, Solike there's a moment when they think that
the police are like handling something andit turns out that this officer is actually
Dick dastardly but why that's yes.And they also for a moment they're sort
(40:06):
of out in the woods and they'retrying they're trying to track the mcguffin in.
This is they're trying to track downthese three ancient dog skulls that end
up making the Cerberus um and sothey have to go out in the woods
to go find one of these andthere's this like, uh, mountain cavemen
tribe out there, and the chiefof the cavemen is Tracy Morgan. Yes,
(40:27):
I remember sitting there. I remembersitting there and listening for voices again,
and I was like, oh,Tracy Morgan because you can only hear
him in my brain, say likeLiz Lemon because of a thirty rock Like
yeah, it's hard to not hearhim as not as Tracy Morgan. Right
one more, Uh, I reallyliked this and I only realized this really
(40:52):
recently. Um. The and Idon't know, I don't don't know to
what degree this is like a tributeor if they just need an name,
but the the the laugh for Mutley, they used like the original like archival
sound of he has like a reallyiconic uh laugh that he that that has
(41:13):
always been used that Mutley is likethe psychic dog for Dick dastardly. Um.
And so they used the original one, which was voiced by Don Messicum.
The the mountain where everything like sortof comes to a head in this
movie is is Messic Mountain? Um. And I don't know, Like I
said, I don't know if that'sa tribute to Don Messic or if they
(41:34):
just need a name, or ifthey didn't even realize it. Does it
feels too coincidental for them to havejust chosen a random name and they came
out with Messicum. But I thoughtthat was kind of cool. It seems
like they did a little bit ofa tribute to Don Messic, which which
tracks because they also have um aquick appearance of a police officer named Officer
Casey who they named after Casey Caseum. Oh. And also I meant to
(41:59):
say with Officer j H. Jaffwas the was named after Nicole Jaff who
was the original voice of Elma.So it's there's a lot of tributes happening
in this film to the original series. Yeah, So anyway, it's good
it's fun. Yeah, we foundit because we're on HBO Max now,
(42:20):
so you gotta you probably have tofind it there unless you already have it
somewhere else. Yeah, let's takea break. We're taking out of a
late break, so I might Imight have to get creative with how we
do the break. But let's takea quick break because we've been driving a
long time, stopping from a beltand we're back. Everybody get up,
(42:44):
it's time to slam now. Ohdear, we got a real jam going
now. Do you guys remember umone of our pretty earlier episodes, So
like in the low twenties, wecalled up my sweet baby brother Benjamin and
his wife Katherine, and we spoke. Ben and I had grown up with
(43:10):
Space Jam. You had as well. Yeah, not as like we were
deep into it, not as deepinto it as you were, but yes,
definitely a fan of Space Jam andCatherine at the time had seen it
the time of our recording for thepodcast, so it was fun. We
were able to speak about new newwatchers and old watchers and everything like that.
(43:37):
We got HBO Max again. Wegot it. We got it.
Therefore, I think the first thingwe got it almost literally minutes after we
got it, we started watching SpaceJam Jam a new legacy. Um,
(43:57):
I'm gonna go ahead and say thata couple of things I'm going to pull
from. Some knowledge that I'm pullingfrom is going to be from an episode
of my brother or my brother isright, because they did they did a
watch a Space Jam watch. Theydid they U they talked about space Ham.
Well they didn't do a watch, but you're right. They talked about
(44:20):
space Jam and they talked about someof the details of it, and some
of those are kind of sticking outon at me at this moment, fixing
to talk about it. Um soUM, I'm just saying, like full
disclosure, some of the things thatwere brought to my attention, which our
attention probably came from my brother,my brother and me. I know.
(44:42):
Yeah, I will say I noticeda lot of the things that they talked
about too. So yeah, yeah, um, space Jam a new legacy.
We got Lebron. Lebron's in thisone. Um he right off the
right from the jump, I'm gonnasay, let's I want to set the
stay age and just and say thesewords. I'm just gonna say it.
(45:05):
Space Sham one is a classic andit's not a good movie. Yes,
thank you. Absolutely. It isa classic movie. You should watch it.
It is not a good, verygood you should watch it. It's
mainly good for the cartoons and justkind of Michael Jordan's there. Yeah,
Like when we watched it before,I was talking about this to someone too,
the like how someone one of ourfriends was like, I don't know
(45:27):
if I can watch it because Ilove the first the original so much.
I was like, yeah, butif you remember the original, Yeah,
about half of the movie is likejust straight on camera pointed at Michael Jordan,
like, Okay, Michael, yournext line is this, and then
I deliver the line. Pretend whenyou're talking to bugs bunny. Yeah.
There's not a lot of like interactiveinteraction right with Michael in the original movie,
(45:49):
right, there is a lot morein this one. Yeah. Lebron
James is a better actor than MichaelJordan. Lebron James, let's stop right
there. Lebron James is a betteractor than Michael Jordan, and they're both.
Bron James is not a good actor. No one is saying that Lebron
James is a good actor. No, we're just saying he did a better
(46:10):
job at acting than Michael Jordan did, but he is not an actor,
right, Yes, And nothing wejust said has any bearing on what on
who we think is the greatest basketballplayer of all time. I don't care,
right, That's mainly the reason isthat we don't care a lot it.
Um, But he's in this one. Um. I'll say. The
(46:31):
one thing that they that they pointedout and that my brother and my brother
and me that I also know thisis like, um, he it's another
one where his family is very involvedin this one. Right. We obviously
can tell that it's not his wifein this movie because it's Sniqua Martin Green,
right. Um. But also, his kids are not in this one,
nor are the kids in this movienamed after his real life kids,
(46:52):
right, exactly so. In theoriginal Space Jam, Michael Jordan's children are
played by his children, And Ibelieve that's true. At least his wife
is played by his wife. I'mpretty sure. And they're Um, I
believe they've No. I feel likeI'm being wrong because now you're not gonna
(47:13):
I'm just double checking, That's allI'm doing. I really thought that that
was so. I thought so too, But I'm double checking okay, um,
because that's one of the things that'sa little bit different in this one
is that Lebron James plays Lebron James, but the people that play his wife
and children are not his actual wifeand children, and they actually use different
(47:36):
names, um than his children.Did you find it? Um, Michael
Jordan's real kids were not in themovie, but the names of the kids
in the movie are his real kids. Okay, but that was his wife,
right? Why did I feel likethat's his actual wife? Was Michael
Jordan's wife in Space Jam? Thankyou Google? But no? Oh?
(48:06):
Shoot? Well okay, so whydid I really think that they kind of
made an appearance? I truly don'tknow. I kind of I kind of
thought that too, but but butI guess the difference is like they at
least use real names in the originalSpace Jam. Maybe that's why, because
they use because they use their realnames. Yeah wow, Um, Lebron's
(48:30):
actual family does not play his actualhis family in the movie, and they
actually do not use their actual andtheir names are changed. Yes, okay,
so yeah there is that also.Um, this is something that I
actually that I actually appreciate it.But we'll hang on before I get there.
Another thing that's pointed out is isnone of this movie takes place in
(48:52):
space. No um, although itwas at the beginning at the original does
take place on an alien planet ofloon that has loooning tunes on it.
Yeah, and does take place withaliens. Yeah, so the the monstars
(49:13):
are aliens. It's been suggested thatit takes place in cyberspace, right,
but no one at any point inthem. I don't even remember them ever
saying the word space. In themovie, they take a lot of time
to talk about um the how whatwhat do they call it? There's like
a name, there's like a namethat the villain's character uses for like the
(49:36):
area that they're in. I can'tremember. It's not the matrix, but
it's matrix references. Okay, we'regoing to get into that. Yeah,
in this movie, every single thingthat Warner Brothers has ever done in their
existence, right, is in thismovie. Yeah. So when Lebron James
(50:00):
okay, yeah, just yeah, just let's do it. Lebron James's son
Dom doesn't care about basketball. Whatyou mean a basketball player's son may not
care about basketball as much? Well, ridiculous. So here's the thing.
This is how they set the stage. The movie opens with young lebron Um
(50:23):
sitting on the bench wanting to playa video game. Yeah, he's got
a Nintendo game Boy in his hands, Yes, and he's playing that,
not paying attention to the basketball gamethat he's that he is ostensibly gonna be
playing in at some point, andthe coach gets mad at him. The
coach who we recognize only as Julius, right, Julius from from Remember the
(50:45):
Titans, that's right, which wedon't even know his real is that Julius,
But he gets on him. He'slike, if you're gonna do this,
you gotta have your whole head inthe game. You can't be you
can't be talking about video video games. And then it cuts to and like
then it cuts to like the openingcredits that moves over, and the game
he's playing is like a Looney Tunesvideo game on the game Boy. Right,
(51:07):
it's also in color, which wejust talked about the Game Boy,
y'all. It wasn't. It wasn't. There wasn't a cut that wasn't in
color. So the beginning happens alot like the original Space Jam, which
kind of follows Michael Jackson's career MichaelJordan's It's a whole different, a whole
(51:30):
different movie. It follows Michael Jordan'scareer. At the beginning credits, it
does this again with Lebron. Yeahyeah, and actually, um, I
really like the opening credits really cool. Yeah um so yeah. But then
they flash forward and Lebron's son Domis like, not only is he not
(51:51):
super interested in basketball, he's superinto videos. He's like a video game
developer. He makes video games twelveBut Lebron James just you gotta get your
head in the game, don Theonly thing that exists is basketball if you
ever want to be good about andlike his and he even is like what
if I don't want to play basketball? Is like that doesn't make sense to
me. I don't understand. Whatdid you just say? What were the
(52:14):
words that just came out of yourmouth. I don't understand. We have
a facility that like you just haveto say this machine he goes ball,
It throws him a ball. Yeah, and then it's like they have this
like custom court that him and hisolder brother are practicing on. Yeah,
older brother, um, and theolder brother's really into basketball. So like
so so Dom is like he feelslike he's he's he's not accepted. He's
(52:36):
not accepted by his father, whowants him to play basketball, who is
a basketball star. Yeah, thiskid doesn't want to play basketball. He
wants to develop video games. Butthe thing is, he's working on a
video game that is based on basketball. It's inspired by his He makes a
video game, a basketball video game'sbasically and honestly, y'all, it's NBA.
(52:59):
It's exactly NBA Jam. It isum pretty much exactly. It's like
it's a one on It's well,I me a jam is a two on
two game. It's a one onone, like you get power ups and
like if you hit the right placeon the court, you can hit the
shot from anywhere. But he's it'sin me a Jam. Does this technology
even exist that he's using. Bythe way, you guys, if if
(53:21):
this doesn't make sense to you,go watch this movie really quickly and then
come back to this because this isn'tgoing to make sense to you. Does
this technology even exist? This camerathat he sticks onto his phone that just
like scans things and puts them intohis computer. So here's the deal.
Yeah it does. So, Yeah, there's a moment I'm old. So
(53:42):
here's the thing. It doesn't workthe way that it works in the movie.
Yeah. So what he does is, um, he wants to like
he's he's making uh like basketball playersin his game that are like based on
real real player stats but also arelike spliced together with like creatures objects.
Yeah. Um so. But andso the way he does that he has
(54:02):
this like special camera that I thinklater in the movie they say like he
developed, which again which for meis like, okay, we've jumped over
a big shark here to get tonot only is this kid a genius game
developer, which I could believe becauselike computers will let you do almost say
anything now, but also that helike designed this very smart Yeah. But
(54:27):
but yeah, but then that healso like created this camera. It's like
almost they I guess they don't saythat he developed the camera, but they're
like, you developed the program thatlets the camera do this tlogy or whatever.
But here's the deal, Yes,cameras really do this. So when
people are modeling three D three Dobjects in like virtual reality, for virtual
reality things, that's essentially what theydo. They get like they they have
(54:52):
specialized cameras that like take really highres images from every angle. Is literally
a camera you can snap onto yourphone. Is it that small? I
mean I'm a friend of mine. No, a friend of mine modeled okay,
a friend of mine modeled a threeD environment with his iPhone camera.
Oh okay, so it's oh,I'm not technologically inclined. Yeah really at
(55:15):
all. I know, like Iknow, like the basics, like if
it doesn't work turning on because wewatched The Ant Crowd. Yeah, um
yeah, no that that that kindof thing is real. But it's like
it's much more. It's like whatthey do in this movie is much different.
So Don wants to make video games. He wants to make a basketball
video game because that's kind of whatconnects him to his dad, but also
(55:38):
what separates him from his dad.Yeah. Um, So overall what happens
is Sarah Silverman Okay, okay, okay, Sarah Silverman is trying to be
a character played by Sir Silverman. She has a cameo in this movie,
(55:58):
but it sound we're gonna make it. She's the mastermind. Go on.
He is trying to pitch this umu um animated reality thing. So so
this is another thing that's pretty real. Yeah, and this is this is
actually what for me like made themovie like a little bit grounded. And
is that. So they propose thisthing which is similar to what Doma is
(56:21):
doing, which is that we're gonnascan you, Lebron, and then you
don't have to be here, rightyou can. We're just going to make
movies with you. We're going todrop Lebron into movies and then you just
get paid. And Lebron's like,no, not interested, Sorry, this
is weird. Yeah, and hewalks off and Doma is with him,
and they kind of get in alittle bit of a fight because Dom's like
(56:44):
this is cool, like or thisis like what I do or I just
want to I just want to pointout though that before we move on,
because this is a real that isa thing. Yeah, that happens in
movies right now right. Um.If you're familiar with, like with the
term deep fakes, um, alot of times these like so if you
watch a Marvel movie where someone's beenlike way aged down, yeah, sometimes
(57:06):
that's the actor and they've just likedigitally aged them back. When sometimes that's
a different actor that they've just splatteredsomeone else's face. One right right,
and so like I think this happened. Yeah, that's that's a thing.
Yeah. So, um, whatbrought this on was that Don Cheatle.
Now, now don Cheatle. Youknow, Don Cheatle, Don cheat I
(57:30):
remember Don Cheatle from the Marvel moviesand the Oceans movies. Well he's in
this one. Don Cheatle is ina computer, but he's not Don Cheatle
anymore. He's alg Rhythm. Soif you guys think about it really hard,
it's like algorithms algorithm, but he'salge Orrhythm. He is the computer.
(57:52):
Basically, he's the algorithm. Um, and he's really wanting Lebron.
He's really wanting to scale Lebron andto get him into his network and everything.
Um, well it's his idea. The idea to put Lebron in movies
was the algorithm's idea. But thenLebron says, don't like this idea.
(58:12):
This is a dumb idea, andJohn Cheetle doesn't like it. Yeah,
he gets his feelings get hurt.Yeah. Yeah, his digital's like,
here's what I'm gonna do. I'mgonna steal your son. Yep. As
they're talking about it, it's Iknow, I know. So he so
he he tricks Dom into coming downinto like the server area. They're both
(58:37):
of this where he where he DonCheedle remember him where John Cheetle has the
ability to create a portal into intothe Warner Brothers servers. Oh, and
it's okay. So he steals Doomand says to Lebron, the only way
you're going to get Dom and humanityback basically yeah, is if you be
(59:02):
yeah. So so it's so DonCheatle's idea is it's more and more ridiculous.
So remember the first Space Jam movie. In the First Space Jam movie,
Um, they there's in the FirstSpace Movie, there's these aliens on
a planet. They're like, weneed a new attraction. And they see
(59:22):
the greatest star on planet Earth atthe time, Michael Jordan, Michael Michael
Jordan, and they say, let'sget him and and the way and and
then the the Loony Tunes get involved, and he wants to save himself,
and so he has to play abasketball game to save to save his life,
and this and this one um Domwho's designed a video game based on
(59:49):
basketball. Um has resentment, resentmentfeelings towards his father, and Don Cheatle's
going to use that love that usingDon cheat as that's who it is.
Don Cheel is going to use thatto get to Lebron James and pit him
and his son against in a videogame basketball battle that for some reason also
(01:00:12):
is going to steal like humanity. So if he doesn't win, if Lebron
James doesn't win, not only willhe not be able to hug his son
again, but also all the peoplein the world will belong to Warner Brothers
start talking about it. It's justso much more ridiculous. So guys stop,
(01:00:38):
please stop this podcast right now.You watch it, please and just
go watch this movie and then you'llkeep it. So then he's like you
got twenty four hours put together ateam, and then boop and kicks him
into the into the Warners servers, and then there's like this thing of him
like floating plat past like planets,so it's meant to look like it's meant
(01:01:00):
to look like there are a littlelike mini planets that are for each ip,
each individual property. So he fliespast a Harry Potter planet, and
he flies past a Matrix planet, right, he flies pass a DC planete
and he ends up landing on onTuneworld where the only inhabitant is bugs Bunny.
Bugs Bunny. Um, yes andbugs. Bunny's like, well,
(01:01:22):
Warner Brothers stole everyone. Yeah,He's like no, it's like they they
all went to different ips. Yeah, they went to go be And this
is the part that really bugs thismovie actually everything. Yeah it does because
so long, This is a longone. This is gonna be a while.
Um. So so he it's notthat they stole them, it's that
(01:01:45):
they're like they went, they leftto go because they weren't being used,
right, which is a thing.Like, so they kicked they went out
to become other things. And likeso like Daffy Duck over being Superman,
Right, Daffy Duck went into Superman. Ip Um, Wiley Coyote went into
(01:02:08):
Mad Max. Yeah, he becamehe became You remember the guys on the
Mad Max movie that spray paint theirmouth silver. He becomes one of those
guys. Yeah. Um, Lolawas in The Wonder Woman. Yeahlo was
becoming an Amazon and an Amazon,um several several several things where they have
(01:02:30):
to go and pick up each ofthese people. Um, each of these
characters in these different ips literally inthem. But what's funny is here's the
thing, Oh, Granny the MatrixShe's yeah, she is Trinity, she
is she does the whole matrix thing. What do you call that? The
matrix thing? The matrix? Right, you'll remember that classic thing that Trinity
(01:02:53):
does in the mat Carrie and Mastdoes in the Matrix. Well, that's
the thing that she does. Yeah, um, this is what you're mean.
That's about this movie. Is Lebronhas the right idea. Lebron goes,
Okay, I'm in Warner Brothers. What do I have at my disposal?
He's like, okay, cool,we got Superman, we got Batman,
we have a lot of strong peopleand Warner Brothers. I'm gonna go
pick up all the strong guys andthose that would be my basketball team.
(01:03:15):
Because he has to assemble his team, and Bugs is like, no,
no, I don't think so.I think we're gonna make the whole team
Looney Tunes, right, and Lebron, we've done this before, n And
Lebron is like, but I thinkit might be a better Like imagine if
instead of a Looney Tune, hadSuperman on my team. And he's like,
well, no, we're gonna gowith loney Tunes. So yeah,
(01:03:37):
Um, well, I don't wantto talk forever about this because because but
there's so much. Let's just moveon to the inevitable basketball game. So
the basketball game happens, and basketballgame happens, and um um, don
cheat because I keep forgetting algorhythm. The actor, Don cheat, the actor,
(01:04:01):
don Cheatle the real life human beingJohn Cheetle brings everyone from the Warner
Brothers Siner verse and also everyone inthe in the world. Basically, what
he did was he sent out.He used the scanning technology that Dom had
created right to use his ability tobring them into, to bring them into
(01:04:23):
the world in the server room,to pull people anyone who was watching the
basketball thing he does like a bigmarketing thing that gets it on everyone's phone.
So whoever has the app and iswatching it, they get literally pulled
in, pulled into the phone, pulled into the algorithms. So half of
the audience are real life people whoselives are on the line, and the
other half are fictional characters from WarnerBrothers things, mainly the villains. So
(01:04:46):
we're literally sitting here watching a basketballgame between guys. Listen to this sentence.
We're here watching a basketball game betweenLebron James and his son dom Uh
who is coached by Don Cheatle.Yeah, the actor Don Cheatle. Lebron
James has the Looney Tunes on hisside. We're watching this game along with
(01:05:11):
in the audience. We have theMasks in there. We have the Um,
we have the Agent Smith from theMatrix. We have the the Monstars.
Yeah, the Monstars are there. We have um, the Scary Nun
Lady. The nuns in there.Uh huh then scary nun Lady. If
(01:05:35):
you can think of pretty much themostly villains that happen. The Penguin from
the Penguin, Danny de Vitos Penguin. It's not day Vito, but Davy
Vitos Penguin is there as well asas well as Jim Jerry's Riddler. And
the Joker is there to both versionsof the Joker, or what I mean
(01:05:56):
by that is to say, yousee Jeff Choon, Jack Nicholson's Joker and
Walking Phoenix is Joker there. Umlet's see, I had a list.
So they do several things. TheGame of Thrones. Bad guys in there.
The White Walkers are there. Umuh uh, shoot, they're all
(01:06:17):
there. They're all there. Everyone'sthere. The mostly the bad guys though,
um yeah, I feel some people, um summer, they're not all
They're not all the bad guys, but the ones like hanging out by the
bench, the one who who youalways see behind it the goon squad.
Yeah, it is there, Itis there, one sitting behind the gongs
(01:06:40):
there, the one sitting behind thegoon squad. Are are all the bad
guys, They're the ones who werelike on the goon Squad. The Goon
Squad is the bat is Dama's team. Um we got the Wicked Witch is
in there. They make fully threereferences to the Wizard of Oz in this
movie because they're like, that's WarnerBrothers too. Well know that one too.
(01:07:00):
It's ridiculous. Guys, like ifyou think of Warner Brothers, like
Rick and Morty show up, butthey show up in a different part of
the movie. They have they havecaptured Taz and they give Taz to bugs
and they're like, we don't wantthem anymore. Oh man, Um,
it's it's ridunculous. There's a lothere. We have the basketball game Dom
(01:07:24):
versus Lebron, and Dom has onhis side the creatures he has developed the
professional basketball players mixed with a creaturelike they have I don't know professional basketball
by players names, so just knowthat. Um, they have a w
(01:07:48):
NBA player mixed with a snake andshe's a hybrid. And then they have
several other players like one that's mixedwith water powers, Ruby's in with her,
um, one that's mixed with Sorry, I had to that was a
(01:08:09):
that was a quick let's let's talkabout something's happening in the in our life
right now. Sorry. I wasjust saying the dog is in with Cora.
Sorry, guys. Um. Um, so they have these hybrid people,
but also John John don Cheatle hasa secret weapon who is like the
Chronos Sky Chronos. He's just aHe's just a He's just a um you
(01:08:33):
know Yberman about the controls time.He controls time so that he slows down
time and can make like a thousandbaskets in an he can make all the
baskets swallowing, which I'm thinking, like, why don't they just use Chronos
all the time. Yeah, butthey don't. They don't. They have
him on the bench a lot oftimes. Yeah, and then Don Cheatle
(01:08:54):
joins in at the end. Twocan you get to see a ripped Don
Cheetle, fake looking done Cheetle too, like he's much taller and like super
duper ripped. Yeah, um,I mean I didn't mind it. Well
whatever whatever, Um here's a quickthing. Uh, I just happened to
(01:09:15):
get to a place where it says, here are all the Warner all the
Warner Brothers, Harry Potter, Gameof Thrones, Mad Max, The Matrix,
Casablanca, the Wizard of Oz,King Kong, Iron, Giant,
Rick and Morty, Austin Powers,Mortal Kombat, dc UM and then also
in the crowd are it says Pennywisefrom it the guys from Clockwork, Orange,
(01:09:35):
the nun Um Stripe, and someof the Gremlins from Gremlins, Beetlejuice,
Robocoph, Yogi and Booboo are inthere. Dick Dastardleys in there with
Mutley, Um, the Flintstones arethere, the Rubbels are there, the
Great Gazoo from the Um from theFlintstones is there. Scooby, Shaggy,
Fred, Daphne and Valma are allin there too, as well as all
(01:09:58):
the Jetsons. Frankenstein is in theirSpace Ghost from Space Ghost Coast to Coast,
the Animaniacs are in their Gallum fromThe Rings. The goonies are in
there, guys, guys Jim Westfrom Widow West, Batman, Robin Joker,
Penguin, Catwoman in several of thegoons from the Batman TV series.
(01:10:18):
So they're all in there. They'reall in the audience watching Um. So
what happens is we kind of reallyDom kind of real Lebron actually, because
he's the adult, he's the parent, he needs to realize. It takes
him a while. Hey, Dom, you know what, You're cool?
(01:10:41):
Yeah, likes you do amazing Thethings you do are insane. You are
cool. You have my respect. You can do amazing things, even if
you don't care about basketball as much. Like it's cool, We're cool.
Yeah. And Dom's like, hey, Dad, yeah for sure yea,
and like goes over to the youknow what Dad, honestly same, Yeah,
(01:11:04):
he goes over to like the tunessquad side. Yeah, and Dom
cheatle Dom Cheatle loses it and kindof um becomes ripped and everything, and
there's a final thing that they haveto do. There's a final move.
Yeah, and it's literally called likeLebron's move or something like that. So
(01:11:28):
so Lebron has has like I guessa signature move, which which also I
just have to say, this lookslike the most basic move. It's like
it's like a pump fake and thena basketball so um, so it's like
Lebron's signature move. And Lebron's like, I'll do it, and Dom's like,
(01:11:48):
Dad, wait, whoever does itis going to be erased from the
cyberspace and therefore erased in time.Early in the movie, where Dom is
programming that character, it does themove and then it glitches and erases the
character riches. That's so, andso they know that if he does if
he does that move in this game, it'll crash the game and that'll allow
(01:12:12):
them to escape, but the characterwill go into cyberspace forever or whatever.
So Lebron's like, I got this. I'm gonna save my son, I'm
gonna save humanity, I'm gonna savethe world. So he starts suiting.
But what happens But it's Bunny. That's Bunny takes the ball and does the
Lebron move, and therefore he diesdies Bugs Bunny at the end Yeah of
(01:12:39):
Space Jam a new legacy Bugs Bunnydies. Yeah, he's he's being held
by all his friends, surrounded byhis tumb friends. Ola has him and
he's like, he goes, that'sall folks, and then he becomes and
then he like fades into into sparks. But what's the leg suite? And
(01:13:00):
then right before the right before thecredits happened, um, we're in the
real world and uh, and Lebron'staking Dom to basketball camp, which actually
Lebron's like, figure out, we'renot going to basketball camp. We're going
to You're going to your video gameconvence, your video game convention. And
Dom's like, thanks Dad, andlike runs off and turns around and bugs
(01:13:23):
and Lebron's like, I thought youdied, man, and and bugs are
He goes, you can't kill acart you can't kill a cartoon. That's
impossible. The end the end.Part of me thinks, Um, part
of me thinks that I think thething between Lebron and Dom where he like
gets it and doesn't make him goodto basketball camp. After all, he
(01:13:44):
can go to his video game thing. I think that that part was planned.
But part of me thinks that theykill bugs Bunny in the movie.
And at the end, the Rider'sjust like I don't think we can't do
it. I don't think we cankill bugs, Bunny. I think we
can do it. We would literallybe killing bugs, bunny. Um,
there's just one other thing. We'reall. I know, we've this is
a long episode, gall, sothanks for sticking with us. Um.
(01:14:08):
There was one other thing that Ithought was weird in this, which is
that the whole like obviously the tunesare animated, and there's a lot of
like sort of three dsh animation inthe movie. There's a point when they
when they come out and they seeGI the like when I have to play
the game, they turn them intoCGI characters, right instead of three D
animated characters, and all of theI just thought this was so funny they
(01:14:28):
become CGI and all of the looting. Who's like, oh gross, what
did you do to us? Putus back? Put It's just it's really
it's this is a weird one becauseagain, is it a good movie?
No, not really, But isit a fun movie? Yeah? Yeah
it is. I'm probably you goingto only see it that one time,
(01:14:50):
though I might watch. Maybe, maybe I'll watch. I want to try
and I want to try and catchall the references. Yeah. Um,
there are so many references, somuch any little Easter eggs. Yeah,
you guys, it's exhausting talking aboutthis movie. It's a lot, but
it is a lot of fun.So we thank you for sticking with us
(01:15:10):
through all of this. We feellike that was a lot. We did
a long episode this week, butwe haven't been here for a couple of
weeks, so hopefully this will gofor it. You can listen in chunks
if you need to. Well,we thank you for sticking with us.
This has been another episode not subofor adults. UM. Thank you to
Shad World for creating our theme music. As always, you can catch his
creations at SoundCloud dot com, slashShad Dash whorl. We're going to try
(01:15:33):
and keep up with our our episodesmore so. We don't do long that
every single time, but we aregoing to try or we're not going to
continue to try. We'll continue totry and continue to try. UM,
and no matter what, whether you'remaking a podcast or whether you're watching the
TV, just never ever, ever, ever, ever forget that you are
the boss and wherever you fall onthe fandom's right ever you want. Yeah,
(01:15:59):
