I'm going to pay.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
It's a plane, It's Superman.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
Now, Superman strange visitor from another world Champion of the
Week and the oppressed who walks the earth as a
man among men, in the character of Miles Clark Kent,
news reporter for the Daily Planet. When we last saw him,
Kent was still investigating the cause of mysterious airplane crashes
at lonely Bridger Field in the Southwest with young Jimmy Olsen,
(02:28):
copy boy on the Daily Planet. He had gone to
the grounds of the law backed circus at Del Rio
in the hope of finding the connection between the accidents
and the strange figure of Professor Hagen, apparently a simple
animal trainer, in reality an inventor of terrible and deadly machines.
Professor Hagen's underground hideout, they had been surprised by Podor,
(02:49):
a strong man of the tent Show, but Fodor was
no match for Superman. As our story continues today, Jimmy
has emerged from his hiding place in the closet and
gazing of awe at the unconscious figure of this strong man.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Crumpled down the floor in the corner.
Speaker 5 (03:04):
Suddenly, an exclamation from Superman, now back in his character
of Clark Kent, brings him to the table which holds
Professor Hagen's radio.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Listen, Jimmy, if I'm not mistaken, this piece.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Of paper here on the table is just what we're
looking for.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
What do you mean? What's on the paper, mister Kent.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
It's that weather report we heard in the radio when
we came in. Look here, read it, Jimmy, read it
out loud. Listen, mister Kent, no fool, and we haven't
got time for that stuff. I think we have read
it on important storm coming, special precaution for planes we'll
meet arriving rains near midnight, set all masters signals which
(03:41):
say take shelter, must avoid win, not try to miss.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
That is wrong. What's it all about anyway? Make much sense?
Speaker 6 (03:51):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
I suppose it's.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
An ordinary weather report, all right, I wonder.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Now listen to this.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
It's another report when I heard at the airport just
before the dust storm for mister Puller's plane came in
and went up in planes. Listen, Jimmy, mister can't what
about photo. He's beginning to move. Look he won't move far.
Get this, Jimmy, and see if it means anything. Now listen,
storm coming planes will meet arriving gales in next or
possibly few hours or minutes. They should use precautions for
(04:20):
all our gale force.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Now what do you make out of that? Not much,
mister Candid. Sounds a lot like the.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
Other has, doesn't it. The funny part of it is
that there haven't been any gales or rains or anything
at all except the dust storm, which he didn't even mention.
So what so these weather reports either aren't much good
or they aren't weather reports at all. There's something else,
mister Kent' what do you mean? I think it's a
cold Jimmy. Now, let's see. Try crossing out every.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Other word that's show. No, that doesn't help. What about
every third word, Jimmy, I believe that's it.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
Look, mister Kent, you got it. See will It's take
the first message here, the one I heard at the airport.
If you take every third word, it reads planes arriving
next few minutes, use all force, great Scott, Gee, that's.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
It all right?
Speaker 4 (05:14):
Almost at once. President Puller's plane did come in. But
it's his plane, that's all right. They'd understand. Not for
the other message, the one we just heard. Quick, Look,
mister Kent, this is a code too special planes arriving
midnight masters say, must not miss You've got it. You
understand what that code message means, Jimmy, Well, it means
it's a plane coming to bridger Field. I can understand
(05:36):
that much. And and somebody is being told to bring
it down.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
You know what that plane is.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
It's the one Puller spoke about, a special, brand new
mystery ship, the one they've been experimenting on for a month.
See more on that. Tacon knows something that.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Even Fuller doesn't know. Jimmy, what is it?
Speaker 4 (05:51):
That ship wasn't expected at bridger Field till day after tomorrow,
but apparently it's coming tonight, tonight at midnight, mister Kent,
What do we gonna do? I'm gonna play it like this, Jimmy.
You get back to bridger Field as quick as you
can and I'll stay here. Listen, you better cometoon, mister
caml There may still be something to find out. Hagan
may come back, and if he does, he.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Won't come back. He's gone.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
I heard him say so. He's going to take charge
of breaking the plane. That's the one thing we don't know.
We don't know where he is, but we can guess how. Jimmy,
it's somewhere up in the hills with a direct view
of Bridger Field.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
It must be. Come on, where are you going? Get
you out of here, up to the shack. Help you go, Jimmy,
say care.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
I hate to run off and leave him like this.
Don't worry about me.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Hello here, Jimmy, when you get to bridgerd Field, find heaven.
Speaker 6 (06:38):
Tell him what we found out.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Tell him to get searching parties out and scour all
the trails into the hills.
Speaker 7 (06:42):
Get back.
Speaker 6 (06:43):
I've done it.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Tell him to find all the capitals he knows anything about,
particularly the ones that look down all the field, and
tell him to work fat.
Speaker 6 (06:50):
I'm telling him.
Speaker 8 (06:51):
Tell him that we think now the mystery plane is
coming in at midnight.
Speaker 6 (06:55):
Tell him whatever he does, it's got to be before then.
I'll get going bed it. So long as I can't,
I can.
Speaker 7 (07:05):
Well, you have news for Door, Professor. The man and
the boy. They were here in the Punel's hut. The
man can't where's he now? Isn't the boy away? He
suspects something, Professor.
Speaker 9 (07:18):
He's still about it.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
I think he comes back. I think I hear something
very well. Listen now for Door.
Speaker 9 (07:24):
This time there must be no mistaken If that man
leaves the tunnels. All my plans maybe sports, Yes, I
do my best. Just beyond my chamber in the tunnels.
You know what is there?
Speaker 2 (07:36):
I know.
Speaker 9 (07:36):
Be prepared. I shall help you. He will hear my
voice over the wires. You will think I am the
next room. He will break in when he does that
PHO door. I understand. The must be no way out.
Remember that it must appear to be an accident. Yeah,
so he lost his way. I shall range and just
in case, remember Fodor, he has been strangely success who
(08:00):
before have a.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Right all rightful professor? He comes.
Speaker 9 (08:05):
I hear him in the tundred go go quickly before
he times seeing what.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Happens to him.
Speaker 8 (08:11):
Now I get my hands on the professor, or if
I don't, my friend Photo will do.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
But what the where is he? I left him right
there in the corner.
Speaker 8 (08:27):
What are where are you?
Speaker 2 (08:29):
No?
Speaker 6 (08:30):
He was hiding?
Speaker 2 (08:31):
What are Photo? Is no longer where you can reach him?
Speaker 7 (08:35):
My friend?
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Who's that? Oh?
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Are you?
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Where's that? Boys coming from?
Speaker 9 (08:38):
I'm the one who has planned. He would like to
know I am hanging.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Mister Kim cloud speaker. That's what it is. Must be
somewhere right nearby well, if I find him, I'm not
merely in the next room.
Speaker 8 (08:52):
Next drum, and we'll just see how strong the walls are.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
I throw the.
Speaker 6 (09:00):

And meanwhile, if you hurt the boy, no, no, no,
Hegan does not cut boy.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
He say not to make you mad.
Speaker 6 (10:39):
He did, eh, and you've certainly succeeded.
Speaker 8 (10:43):

And when I find you in hey can go up there.
Speaker 6 (10:50):
You can play, I know.
Speaker 8 (10:52):
And it's coming at midnight. That means there isn't much time.
Look out for yourself, Hagan, Here I come.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
Superman is on his way, but not even he knows
just where to go. Somewhere high up in the hills
is the cabin from which Professor Hagen plans swift and
deadly destruction of the airplanes at bridger Field. And Superman
get there in time to prevent tragedy. And what of Jimmy,
already racing back to give warnings. Climbaxis at hand, Tune
(11:27):
in and follow the story.
Speaker 6 (11:30):
Up in the sky.
Speaker 7 (11:31):
Whoop, it's a bird.
Speaker 6 (11:33):
It's the brain, It's Superman.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
Superman is a copyrighted feature appearing in Action Comics magazine.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
All Right, welcome back, everybody, Well, Clark Kent and Jimmy
figure out that the weather reports are phony and that
they're really secret code, and they found out that the
mystery airplane is arriving by midnight that night. I still
(12:07):
get cracked up because here again Clark was talking about,
you know, these weather reports must be funny because it's
talking about gals, and we didn't get any gales. We
just got dust storms. And it's like, oh, what do
you think causes dust storms? I don't know, But at
(12:28):
any rate, Clark surmises that Hagan is hatting out in
the hills and bringing down these planes as they approach
bridge or Field. We also have this interesting part in
the tunnels where Hagan is talking to Clark and Clark
(12:49):
is talking in his Superman voice, and then he starts
busting through the walls and everything, and then that interaction
with ford Or And does that mean that Hagen knows
that Clark Kent is Superman once Superman shows up. I
don't know. It's it's interesting, but we've got one more
(13:11):
episode left in this storyline, and so they've got one
one more time to wrap things up here. All right, folks,
we are going to take a quick break and then
we'll be right back with Part six of Airplane Disasters
at bridger Field. Okay, everybody, welcome back. Let's go ahead
(13:38):
and get into Airplane Disasters at bridger Field Part six,
the final episode of this storyline, which aired May tenth
of nineteen forty, enjoy.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Nding the transcription, featured Superman out of the Sky Whoop.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
Superman now Superman Dalliant, fight her for truth and justice,
Champion of the Week, and the Helpless has appeared on
Earth with a physical structure never.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Before attained by mortal men.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
Superman, who is stronger than a locomotive, faster than the
speeding bullet, walks about among human beings as Miles Clark Kent,
news reporter for the Daily Planet.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
When we last saw him, Kent was in the.
Speaker 5 (14:34):
Southwest that lonely Frigier Fields with young Jimmy Oaks and
Coffee Boy on the planet investigating the connection between the
man known as Professor Hagen, animal trainer in lawbacked circus
and the series of mysterious crashes among cast planes of
the privately owned National Air Service. Finding evidence of Hagen's
plans in the caverns below the circus ground. Superman had
taken off in the last desperate attempt to save a
(14:56):
brand new mystery plane last word in aviation science. To
reach Bridgerfield at midnight, so he continues. Today, not much
time is left.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Moonlight shines down on the slopes of the rocket, and
on the third party headed by young Jimmy and that
Hamlin of the airport, making their way up the narrow
trail by muleback, and also on the tiny cabin in
which Pagan makes his deadly machine.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Ready listen, so it.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
Works well most instructively, How what is it for the pas?
What exactly does he do? The capable pedro over here
he can show you to the Queen States. Where did
you send him back to Delileo, back to de Real
by no means call, merely down the trail to operate
the signal devices.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Do you think that is someone coming?
Speaker 4 (15:43):
I'm quite sure of it thanks to that interfering newspaper man,
mister came.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
What would he do?
Speaker 4 (15:49):
I believe he sent out a party to scover the
trails above bridge or Field by muleback.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
If they do that, they will find the cabin.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
Here rares easy much will before they reach year. Now,
see you watch what occurs when I approcused the machine.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
See nothing at all. What does the teleplane do?
Speaker 4 (16:13):
That is my secret car It stretches out into the dark, silently, invisibly,
until it meets the metal of the plane's engine. Then
then heat terrific heat, ten times hotter than the electric guard.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
The metal is made white hot.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
Then in then it gives way and disappears in the
form of gafts long how completely gone.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
That's why they found the no motives in the racks
just so, and it is also why they will find
no trace of this mystery ship at all.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
It will vanish, completely carved like a puff of smoke
in the wind.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
And exactly in something less than nine minutes.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Now stand by again while I make another adjustment, and
be careful, my friend, be careful to keep well the rain.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
How watch out, Jimmy, don't try to guide the new one.
I'm not, mister Hamlon. He know it's more about these
chairs than you do. Wait, let's put it onto that.
Oh you think we ought to stop, mister Hamlin. How
much time is that?
Speaker 4 (17:21):
Where do I take a look at my watch? Eight
minutes to twelve? See if that's right, mister Hamlin. We
gotta keep going. There isn't time to stop doing all
we can. Hey, Jimmy, can't tell you just where to
find this cavin.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
No, he wasn't sure. He said it was someplace that
overlooked the field. Oh, then we're on the right track.
Up ahead, away we will find the shock. Mister Hamlond,
Come on, we've.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Got to find that cabin and take it easy, boy, praying,
we'll just get us killed.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
You can't take these narrow chairs at the gallop. Where
are we?
Speaker 4 (17:50):
Where we got to the way. Let's see where on
what's called the chasm trail right up ahead. It is
the narrowest part of it.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
You see where the moonlight shies against the rock. Golly,
it looks now it is. It's sort of a show
sticks out over nothing about it. He game to try
it is? It will stop? What's gonna happen down there
and field? I'll try it.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Listen, mister Hammon, what about the others. What do you
think they've got to the other trail parties? Well, one
of them took the heart back and the third one
around by Sunset Canyon.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
Are the cabins up there too, yes, indeed, and they
all have a view of the field. Well, come on,
let's keep going.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Mister Hammond, there is anything up there, We've got to
find it in the next seven minutes. Better let me
go ahead, Jimmy, especially when we get to the show.
All right, Well, I'll be right behind the cavil. Now,
if your mule loses his footing, throw yourself against the
rocks on the inside of the trail.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
He does he have to do that? I don't know,
but then you never can tell. It's a long way down.
I'll watch it, Jimmy. Here's the show. Just allow right
straight along and don't look down. I could anyway.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
It's too dark to see much except where the moonlight is.
Collis now all right, GI mean, don't stop going to
get off this place. Kevin's just up ahead away, mister Hamlin.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
How far isn't across the shelf? All four or five
hundred yards? Keep going, mister Hamlin. Listen, what's that noise?
Speaker 4 (19:15):
Just slide as a rock slide up on the mountain.
Get going, Tommy, from the sound that might be coming
right down here where we call mister hammer Right on ahead.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
It's quicking than going Back's true, so we can't do
it well sudden he just came down right on the trail. Folders,
big ones, get back, get back against.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
The rocks, their hamlets coming straight forward and all that
you quick, Jimmy, Now that behind.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Him, that's the way that is not quick, all right
against the rocks. Quick's coming against coming.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
Down from the top of the mountain, hurdles the mass
of rock and there. But suddenly another sound fills the air,
a great rushing of wind. Superman comes drinking over the trail.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
It's Jimmy, gimme and that hamlin.
Speaker 10 (20:05):
They're right out of that slide down down. If she jumps,
I can divide that slide right here and go jump
the shelf. But never touched them now because she is
right in the middle. For me, it's demiding. They're gonna
(20:33):
be all right, going right over their heads.
Speaker 7 (20:41):
Now.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
For Hagen, it's just time to stop him before midnight.
Speaker 6 (20:45):
Up, up and away.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Almost reavy. Now what's the glass sake?
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Two minutes to win, two minutes to go, two minutes
more my car and we are now pay for better.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
Is there any sign yet to the plane? Oh? Not yet?
Would it be on time? Do you think? I think so?
If what I've heard is true, it flies to the
split second.
Speaker 4 (21:17):
Quite ready. When the plane appears. I start the teleplane
in operation. Once started, it will do its work wherever
it is point, but mind my frame.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Keep out of its way. The better. There in the west,
lights wing lights of a plane, Carl. That's it. It's coming.
Just a few seconds more now till it gets above
the fields, coming like a lightning board. Let's the hook.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
And when it hits the Hagen teleplamee, it will be
even more like a lightning board, Carl, it will burst
into flames like a meteor. Now I start, I started
to tell aplae.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Hear it. I hear it's playing. Oh no, don't be ridiculous.
You can hear it. You hear a teleplane. Boom, It's
not a teleplane. It's something else right over my hits.
It doesn't look Look now then the plane is above
the field. Should bring the movies up so we can see.
I watched, Carl, watch them to the man, the man.
Speaker 6 (22:24):
In this ky like heid it comes.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Drop that machine.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
Got it off for that, Carl stopping get you, I said,
stop that machine to my friend.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Now, no it's not late. Just watch the take and
pick up Margine. Carl, stop him shooting, playing man, haven't
it coming down? Stop you go up?
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Oh boy, that was a barrow escape as that lot
slide almost godess mo to Hammon, what about the cabin?
Speaker 7 (23:08):
Where is it?
Speaker 4 (23:09):
Mind the cabin? Looked down the valley toward the field. Jimmy,
look the plane.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
I see it's lights the plane.
Speaker 7 (23:16):
Look.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Look, she's circling for a landing. She's coming down, Hamon,
What she goes up?
Speaker 6 (23:22):
Now?
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Why does she catches fire the cabin? Meant for the
cab on it's too late for that. She's got a chance.
Wait a minute, look, Jimmy, look look that down. They've
made it. They've landed in a safe Jimmy, they're safe.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
By her voice like Ken, mister Ken, darling, where did
you come off the other trail?
Speaker 2 (23:41):
Did you see what happened?
Speaker 9 (23:42):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Ken? Did we? We just watched it plane safe and
sounded bridge of her with the cabin, mister Ken? What
about the cat Oh the cabin, it's right up ahead.
I've just come from there. You're head. Well what about
professor Hagen?
Speaker 7 (23:54):
Was he there?
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Did he have a machine? Oh? Yes, yes, he went
there all right and he had his mission? All right?
All right? Then what happened? Hammon? I don't know. Something
must have gone wrong.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Instead of hitting the plane, Pagan's machine hit Hagan and
then destroyed the cabin.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
Whatever it was, it's gone now, Haagan and his machine
are finished.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
Forever, Ken, Are you sure of that? Absolutely positive? As
a promise now when you say we get back down
there and see what this mystery ship looks like. Hey,
Jimmy and I have a swell story to file for
our paperback east Oh boy, say we have.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Let's go to get it.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Just in the nick of time, Superman saved the day.
The mystery plane last word in Man's Conquest of the
Air rests safely at bridger Field and Clark Kent or
the Tremendous School. But there's another assignment on the way.
Even as he speeds eastward again with Jimmy, a strain
(25:00):
and unbelievable mystery takes form.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
Ahead of him.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
June in Next Time and follow the story of Superman up.
Speaker 10 (25:09):
In the sky.
Speaker 6 (25:10):
Whoop, it's a bird, it's a brain, It's Superman.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Superman is a copyrighted feature appearing in Action Comics Magazine.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
All right, everybody, welcome back. Well, we have an explanation
finally about how the bad guys are bringing down the
planes and making the engines disappear and so forth, and
we also have Clark aka Superman foyle Hagen's plans and so,
(25:51):
I mean, there's really not much for me to say
about this episode. They just kind of wrap it up,
you know, and as I said, Superman swoops in and
saves the day, and we are promised at the very end,
we're promised that a mysterious story is up next, and
(26:12):
so that's going to be exciting. By the way, that's
going to be the Buffalo Hills storyline, and this will
be another six part storyline. I think we are at
that point in the show where Joan Alexander, who plays
the role of Lois Lane, has been let go or fired,
(26:36):
and so they don't have a Lois Lane right now,
but here in a few storylines, John Alexander will reprise
her role as Lois Lane. Right now, it's just Clark
and Jimmy though, and a little bit of Perry White
thrown in. All right, everybody, that is going to be
a rap for this storyline and this episode. Thank you
(27:01):
so much for listening. Again. You can send comments to
otr msh at gmail dot com and if you like
the show, I want to encourage you to head on
over to the Apple podcast reviews, the iTunes reviews and
leave a five star rating if you like the show.
I would much appreciate it. All that stuff just helps
to keep the show going. Thanks so much, everybody. I'll
(27:24):
catch you next time.
