Daily Planet newspapers.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Our story opens today.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
The huge presses of the Daily Planet are working at
top speed. A horrible catastrophe has struck the manufacturing town
of Melville. Harry White, editor of the Planet, has ordered
an extra edition of the papers. At the same time,
he has instructed Clark Kent and Lois Lane, the Planet
Star reporters, to hurry to Melville or an witness story
of the catastrophe. As their car see thought of the
(03:03):
darkening city, they discussed their assignments together.
Speaker 6 (03:09):
How long will it take you to get to Millville,
mister Kent, About an hour.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
We make good time, mister White.
Speaker 5 (03:15):
Wire The owner of the factory, a man named Hobeim,
is probably expecting.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
Us Portola must be all broken up. What caused explosion?
Speaker 7 (03:23):
I didn't get the details.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
No, there aren't many details.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
Explosion occurred in a doll factory and killed thirteen employees.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
That's all we know.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
What sort of an explosion could wreck a doll factory
and take such a terrific toll of life is a
mystery to me.
Speaker 6 (03:37):
Every assignment you go out on seems to have a
mystery connected with the mister Kent. I sometimes wonder whether
you don't manage to create the mystery.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
What do you mean they get it?
Speaker 7 (03:46):
Not worth discussing? Really, how about stepping on it. I'm
asked to get this thing over with and get back
to town.
Speaker 8 (04:03):
Joe, I told you to stay at the fact that
they keep people from snooping around.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
I don't know it's hole mind, but a telegram came
and I figured it might be important.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
You don't have to worry about the factory.
Speaker 8 (04:14):
Nobody's snooping around here, Joe, it's matter me colemone, listen
to this telegram. Clark Kent and Lois Lane Daily Planet
reporters will arrive Melville eight tonight to get a complete
story in factory explosion.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Your cooperation will be appreciated.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
Perry White editor, reporters, Uh, well you'll handle them, okay.
It's like to handle the chief of police and Empire inspected.
It is a different Joe just reported can I've read
about him.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
He won't be so easy to handle it. Now.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
We can't take any chance with the town. Well, they're coming.
You can't stop.
Speaker 8 (04:48):
You have to stop and listen to me. There's no
train until ten, so it means they're coming by automobiles.
You will meet them before they reached the bridge and
see that they turn back.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
Suppose they don't want to turn back the you know
such things. You will tell them the road is closed.
Speaker 8 (05:03):
If that doesn't work, do the next best thing you mean,
I mean, accidents can happen, very serious accidents.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
I get you. I remember, Joe.
Speaker 8 (05:15):
They must not reach Melville under any condition, under any.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
Girl.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
You must have taken the wrong road back that fort,
mister Kent. We've been riding more than an hour.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
I'm sure this is the right road. Are you getting tired? No?
Speaker 7 (05:34):
Just just boyd put that up ahead, red light.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
Someone's waving a ladder in the middle of the road.
Speaker 7 (05:40):
Now, don't tell me we have to do tour. That's
all I need to make the trip perfect.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
I don't see any construction. Now, what's the trouble walled Mewville.
We're reporters daily planets. Oh yeah, well you'll have to
turn back. Roads closed.
Speaker 7 (05:57):
Can't we possibly get through?
Speaker 4 (05:58):
Got a chance? Wading river? Whatever its banks? Roads fo
feet deep in water. There isn't any water here. You're
on a hill, mister Rivers down in the valley. We've
got to get through. We're covering a story, that factory
explosion in Melville. Nothing to it, mister oiler blew up,
No story there.
Speaker 7 (06:14):
Well, we're not turned back.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
We've waited in Enoughtown just a minute. Isn't there another
road we can take?
Speaker 5 (06:18):
No, this is the only one goes into Melville. Well
I gotta be getting back.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Sorry.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
Well, I don't see the point in sitting here staring
in his face.
Speaker 7 (06:27):
Mister can't turn the car around.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
Oh wait, this doesn't look like a hill to me,
And I don't see any valley below, all of which
proves what it may prove nothing, But I'll find out
soon enough.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
You stay here, I'll run up ahead and have.
Speaker 7 (06:41):
A little Clark can't you're an optinate pool.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
You're backing the rve.
Speaker 5 (06:47):
She can't see me around that bend. Lucky too, This
looks like a jump for Superman.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
Well, here goes. So the road's flooded?
Speaker 5 (07:01):
Is it not a drop of water?
Speaker 4 (07:03):
The river is just what it should be. I thought
that man with a lantern was lying for Why? What's
his purpose in trying to keep us out of Melville?
Wait here it comes. Now.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
You might not be willing to talk for Clark Kent,
but he'll save plenty for Superman.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
I'll just drop down on the road. Good evening. Hey
where do you come from?
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Never mind that I understand you've been telling people this
road is flooded.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
What's the big idea?
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Listen, I ain't got time to pull around with no
guy in a masquerade, because don't beat it.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Not before you answer a few questions, need it? I said,
go on, before I let you have it, put that
gun back in your pocket. It might go off.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
That's what it's for now, scram I said, put that
gun up, Stand.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
Back her on, shoot, stand back, go ahead. Shoot.
Speaker 5 (07:52):
Those bullets bounced off my chest and you're lucky they
didn't snap back and take your eyes out.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Now it's my turn. Number one. You're getting rid of
that gun. Number We are going to talk around. Take
you apart. Who sent you to stop us on the road? Nobody, nobody?
You're lying? Maybe let's all loose in your top. Don't
don't let me again. Gone, I'll talk all right, make
it fast behind all this. It ain't my poor drum
getting paid. Who's paying you? And why give me a chance?
Speaker 8 (08:18):
Mister?
Speaker 4 (08:20):
You had your chance and missed it. Now it's too late.
Miss lane is coming up the road. I'm afraid I'll
have to put you to sleep.
Speaker 5 (08:25):
No road, no sorry, next time, don't wait so long
an thot lowers see me this way, I'll go behind
the push and change back to clark Ken again.
Speaker 7 (08:35):
Yet, where are you right again?
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Here? I am his lamb.
Speaker 7 (08:40):
Harp, and I heard shot and getting cried for help.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
That man who stopped us on the road wasn't telling
the truth. Thor isn't front of at all.
Speaker 7 (08:46):
But the shot I heard too.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Shots. He pulled a gun and fired me. Fortunately he missed.
Speaker 5 (08:50):
We had a fight, and well, I guess I knocked
him out there He is on the grass at the side.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
Of the road.
Speaker 7 (08:55):
You knocked him out, Well, he.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
Just sort of ran into my fist. Let's get back
to the car. Soon as we reach Melville the better.
What about the mayor? Who will come to all? Right?
Come on stay?
Speaker 7 (09:06):
What it's all about, mister cann I.
Speaker 5 (09:08):
Don't know, but looks like someone's trying to keep us
from reaching Melville.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
Why that's what I can't explain.
Speaker 7 (09:16):
Here, Get in, mister Kenned. You told me everything.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
Of course. I don't like this at all. Oh, whether
you like it or not, miss Lane, you're in for mystery.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
And unless I miss my guess, plenty of mystery.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Hell call what goo good Joe? Yes, they got proved,
it's reported. Poor a girl. They had to Melville. You fool.
I told you to stop, and I couldn't freak.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
I grabbed me.
Speaker 8 (09:46):
I ever mind, now, listen to me. Take the back
roote and get here before they do come to my house. No, no,
go to that factory and keep watching there.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
You understand it? Yeah, sure, and this time make no mistake. Ah.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
That must be Holdvine's doll factory across the street, and
much of it left is the miss lay.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
There's one wall standing.
Speaker 7 (10:14):
Terrible. I think that Rick, What do you intend doing?
Speaker 5 (10:17):
Oh, I'll look around. Must be a watchman or a
caretaker to wait here in the car just a.
Speaker 7 (10:23):
Moment, mister Kenned.
Speaker 6 (10:24):
If you think I came along to watch you get
a story, You're crazy.
Speaker 7 (10:27):
You don't go ahead and mess around in that pile
of breaking. I'm going up the interview, mister.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Hold it home.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
Laura's wait. Oh the silly little fool. Hope she doesn't
get into trouble. Oh well, might as well look around
that explosion, whatever it was, certainly you wreck this place. Hello,
here comes someone watchman. I guess a dog is the
man who stopped us on the road. And hellow I
hit he recognizes me.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
Hey, what do you want me? Oh?
Speaker 5 (10:57):
Nothing, just looking around a terrible explode, All right, keep walker, mister, Hey,
wait a minute.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
Ain't you the reporter? Porter? No, no, I'm a traveling salesman.
I sell ties. I got some samples in my hotel.
If you're interested, I never mind.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
Keep moving, Yes, sure, and I oh right, that was
a close shit you he'd seen.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
Me before, and I just stuck around the corner here
out of sight. Now that's for these clothes.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
I think it's high time superman did a little investigating
something hidden under that pile of bricks, and I have
a faint idea and maybe a clue to the cause
of the explosion.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
Well you'll find out soon enough. Up up, right away.
You have a cigarette, this man, perhaps a break?
Speaker 7 (11:45):
No, thank you? No, tell me how the explosion in
your dog? Thank you?
Speaker 5 (11:50):
K oh, yes, man, it's not easy to talk about
miss Lane, all those poor people.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
The boiler, yes, the boiler and the blew up, all
of a sudden, mislaying without warning. Oh, it was terrible.
Speaker 7 (12:05):
Were you in the factory at the time, mister.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
Holbron No, no, But it would have been better if
I had been, Yes, much better.
Speaker 5 (12:10):
But twenty years I have made dolls, pretty dollars, and
then comes business.
Speaker 6 (12:14):
And it wasn't your fault, mister Holburn, You're not to blame. Why,
I think I have enough information.
Speaker 7 (12:19):
I'm back big up with.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
Kent, mister Kent. The telegram it said mister Kent was coming.
Speaker 7 (12:24):
Yes, he stopped off. Looks exactly. Probably rummaging through the
brick what I said. He's probably rumging through the brake.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Oh he is, is he?
Speaker 7 (12:31):
He won't find anything.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
I'm not so sure about that, mister Holburn, what do
you mean my man.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Joe doesn't take care of him.
Speaker 8 (12:39):
Maybe he will find something, So in case he does,
I think you're gonna stay here.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
No, I'll keep you here just in case it's luck
of mis Lane. Don't wait your time.
Speaker 7 (12:50):
You can't do this.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
I can do this on more.
Speaker 7 (12:53):
Why are you holding me here anyway?
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Because you comes sniping into my business and I don't
like to have people.
Speaker 7 (12:57):
So you're hiding something coming about the boot.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
Yes, I am hiding something. And if your friend mister
can't find out what I'm hiding, you will never leave
this house alive.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
You will Superman find anything in the ruins of the
doll factory?
Speaker 4 (13:12):
And if he does, will it mean death for Lois?
How far does hold mind?
Speaker 5 (13:15):
Dare go to guard the mystery looking behind the shattered
walls of his doll factory?
Speaker 4 (13:19):
And what is that mystery?
Speaker 5 (13:21):
Junim next time and follow the thrilling story of Superman.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
Up at the sky.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
Look it's a quain and Superman. Superman is a copyrighted
feature appearing in Action Comics Magazine.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
All Right, everybody, so I've got some comments here before
we wrap up. First off, we see that Clark and
Lois do not start in the office this time. Of Typically,
the sort of way that they have been beginning a
lot of these storylines is by Clark and or Lois
(14:09):
and Jimmy starting off in Perry White's office being called
to Perry White's office, and Perry White officially briefing them
on the story and what they are supposed to do.
But this time here we see that they start off
with Clark and Lois already on their way in their
(14:30):
car to follow the story. So a little bit of
a nice change there in the way that they're sort
of going about the introductions of these storylines. And we
have Lois being her normal snarky self, just kind of
ribbing Clark and giving Clark a hard time and just
kind of having an overall attitude, doesn't seem to be
(14:53):
too excited about this case, kind of just wants to
just get it over with. We also see that we
have the bad guys revealed right away. There is no
waiting this time. It is revealed from the very beginning
that Hans Holbein and his partner Joe are up to
(15:15):
no good, that they are the bad guys of this storyline,
and that is revealed to us right away from the
very beginning. No mystery or suspicion or anything like that
for a few episodes. This right from the beginning, we
know who they are, and it's your typical two man operation.
You've got your main bad guy, Hans Holbein, and also
(15:39):
you have his sad kick Joe. That's kind of been
a common paradigm that they have been working off of
as far as the bad guys go. We also see
that Clark Kent is starting to get himself a bit
of a reputation as a sharp report because Hans Holbin
(16:02):
is afraid of Clark Kent even more than the police.
He's afraid that Clark Ken is so smart and he's
heard so many good things about Clark Kent. He's afraid
that Kent will actually find out something that the police missed.
And it's also because of Clark's sharp wittedness that he
(16:24):
suspects that when they are in the road, stopped by
Joe and told a lie, Clark Kent obviously sees past that,
he sees through that he's suspicious about that, and he
goes to check it out, whereas Lois was just going
to fall for it. Hook line and Sinker. So good
(16:45):
job Clark for not being a dummy. One of the
things I really enjoy about this show is the way
that Clark does use his brain. It's not just all
about muscles and strength, but he really does use his
brain in these cases. I think that Hans Holbinen and
Joe would have been better off not even trying to
(17:07):
lie about the river being overflowed or the road being
blocked or whatever, because all that did was make Clark
and Lois really really suspicious. They would have been better
off not even trying. We also have this scene where
Superman confronts Joe and Joe tries to shoot him and
(17:28):
the bullets bounce. Such a classic scene of Superman history.
I think of more modern pictures of this on Smallville
and things like that, and it's just we see that
this classic sort of bullets balancing off of Clark goes
all the way back to the very beginning. This is
nineteen forty and so just such a classic scene here
(17:53):
that has been in the Superman myth thos since the
very beginning. We also have a very rough and tough,
no nonsense Golden age Superman. Superman is really ready to
rough up Joe to get the truth and he's not
playing around, and that is your classic Golden Age Superman.
(18:16):
Of course, Lois interrupts and kind of ruins what Clark
was trying to accomplish.
Speaker 5 (18:21):
There.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
We see here that these storylines would probably be solved
in taken care of pretty quickly if it were not
for the people that Clark had to be with on
these cases. There's always Lois or Jimmy or Perry Whiter,
somebody around that prevents Clark to really be himself and
(18:45):
to really get work done fast. But you know, without that,
you really wouldn't have a storyline. I guess it would
probably be over. In the first episode. I love Clark's
excuse when he's trying to explain to Lois what happened
to Joe, and he was like, well he he must
(19:06):
have ran into my fists. Oh man, wow, love it,
love it. I feel like at the doll Factory, I
feel like Hans Holbyn really showed his hand way too early.
(19:31):
He revealed way too early to Lois that he was
up to no good and Clark hadn't even found anything yet.
And for all Hans Holbein knew Clark would never find
anything I mean, think about it. The police and the
inspectors didn't find anything, so maybe Clark wouldn't either. But
(19:53):
Hans Holbien really did show his hand just way too early.
Lois is in trouble now, and you know, I just
feel like that was not very smart on Hans Holbeen's part.
All right, everybody, we're going to take a quick break
and then we'll be right back with Part two of
(20:15):
Hans Holbein's Doll Factory. Okay, everybody, welcome back. Let's go
ahead and get into Part two of Hans Holbein's Doll Factory.
This one aired June twenty sixth of nineteen forty Enjoy.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
Presenting the transcription feature Superman.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
With the paint.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
It's Superman, Superman, courageous visitor from another world, Champion of
the Week, and the oppress who came to work when
the planet Krypton was destroyed by a giant quakes now
mingles with Ordinary disguised as Clark Kent, a mild mannered
reporter for the Daily Planets newspaper, when an explosion wrecked
(21:06):
hands Holvine's dow factory in the manufacturing town of Melville.
Either Clark Kent nor Lois Lane, sent to cover the story,
suspected there was anything sinister behind the unfortunate accident that
took a toll of thirteen lines, but mysterious things soon
began to happen. An attempt was made to stop Kent
and Lois on the road, but Superman took a hand.
(21:27):
Arrived in Melville, Kent remained at the ruins of the
doll factory while Lois went to interview Hans Holbein, the owner.
Learning from Lois that Kent was at the factory endeavoring
to determine the cause of the explosion, Holvin immediately imprisoned
her in his house and threatened her with death if
Kent discovered anything in the factory ruins. Leaving Lois bound
and gagged in a closet, Holvine hurried to the factory
(21:50):
where Kent, as Superman, has already.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Burrowed deep down into the pile of bricks, searching for evidence. Yes, Joe, oh,
I do it? No, what's up?
Speaker 8 (22:02):
Keep that light out ways? The reporter can't report. I
ain't seen no reporter whatever.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
He's here stumping around. He didn't see him say it
wouldn't a minute. I thought that guy was him oh,
who are you talking about?
Speaker 5 (22:15):
The guy came up the street about ten minutes ago
and he looked like the same guy.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
I stopped on the road, that reporter.
Speaker 5 (22:20):
But he said he was electuiser him. You fool at
was clark Kent? Where they go?
Speaker 4 (22:24):
I told him to beat it. They did.
Speaker 5 (22:25):
Yeah, sure, I've seen him turn the corner. But that
eyes noise. I don't need no noise. Keep that light out,
not listen. Yeah, yeah, now I hear it. Maybe it's
rats seeing that flies by. Follow me quietly, you can.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
Get that reporter. Mister Holbine, got my gun in case.
Quiet you fools off home? Now do you think it's rats?
Speaker 5 (22:56):
That ain't rats? It must be him? Kept on the
other I had that pile of bricks. I'll fix him
the whole pine one slug from this perty.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
Eight now the other ways. Better way to you.
Speaker 8 (23:05):
They're gotta stupid like mus speak quickly. Yeah, the shadows
listen to me. We must work fast. I'm listening.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
That wall, the one that's still standing. He has the
crack in the headlin Yeah, big crack.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
Fire inspector said it'll have to be torn down in
the morning before it topples over.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
It'll topple over the night an accident. What I don't
get you.
Speaker 8 (23:28):
The wind could make it fall and would it be
our responsibility.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
But reporter Kent was underneath it when it fell.
Speaker 8 (23:34):
But the window is strong enough to topple it. And
we will help the wind with a small amount of dynamite.
I have a stick placed in the crack. I'll make
the wall top of out. Sure you can muffle it
so nobody you'll hear the charge go. They're a smart board, yo. Sometimes.
Now there's one more thing, that girless laying.
Speaker 5 (23:54):
She could be snooping around the factory two in the
wall topos. Sure she could, all right, take my car
and go for her. She's like my whole fow to
tie up here?
Speaker 4 (24:04):
The keys allry, but don't let anyone see you. Wait
on the corner. Okay, I'll be back before you know it.
Speaker 5 (24:14):
Oh, this is dusty work. I'm near the basement. Now.
It would have been much easier to plow right through
these bridge it. I had to be careful at watchman
or whatever he is, didn't hear me now to get
these beams out of the way.
Speaker 4 (24:33):
That does it? Oh? Clear? What's this? Oh?
Speaker 5 (24:39):
The boiler Eh, the one that was supposed to have
blown up didn't blow up at all. Evidently something else
was responsible for that explosion, something whole Bye would like
to keep undercover. Well, it won't be undercover very long,
not if I have anything to do with it.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
Ah.
Speaker 5 (24:57):
Yeah, this looks like something broken packing case. And I'll
rip some of these boards off case of dolls. Most
of them are crushed. And there's the pretty one, blonde
hair in a blue dress who bare the bodies cracked her.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
I'd save it below.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
Hold on, something queer about this doll That inside the
body it's a metal cylinder.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
Wait a minute, they all have metal cylinders.
Speaker 5 (25:29):
Now I'm beginning to understand a few things, and I
think this.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
Is a job for the police.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
I'll just take some of these unusual dolls and discuss
the matter with the Chief of police.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
As Clark can't report her old fine, things don't look
so good for you. Up up, head.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
Away, Red Cape streaming in the night wind, Superman wings
through the darkness convinced els Umble On an important clue
to the mysterious explosion in the doll factory. Five minutes later,
(26:05):
as Clark Kent Baily Planet reporter, he is talking with
the local chief of police in the latter's office, and
I said, much we know about rules on it, except
that he rented the factory a year ago, set up
machinery and began making dolls harmless in them.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
If he asked me, harmless enough on the surface, what
do you mean by that? Here? Chief, fuck at these dolls.
Let me open one? Eh see? What's that? Yes, crowder
graves black powder. It looks like pepper, but I can
assure you it isn't. Here. We don't just pour a
few grains into this pashtray. It may be dangerous.
Speaker 7 (26:43):
How are you, Chief?
Speaker 5 (26:44):
Now, we'll touch the flame to the few grains of
black powder and the ash tray.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
Be careful, can't because for you? All right? All right? Chief?
There is enough of this powder in each of these
metal cylinders to blow.
Speaker 5 (26:54):
Up battleship apart. It's the most powerful explosive I've ever seen.
And holbein packing it inside doll.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
But why, Kim, Why?
Speaker 5 (27:03):
That's what we have to find out immediately. At least
we know what caused the factory explosion. Someone must have
set this stuff off accidentally. I'll have Holvin picked up
and brought down.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
Here, he's got twenty to explain.
Speaker 5 (27:14):
Oh no, no, wait, that's not the way she I
mustn't let him think we know as much as we do.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
It would be better if you and I had a
little private talk with him.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
Yes, maybe you're right. Chances are we'll find him at
his house. You know, Ken, Never in all my life
would I have suspected anything like clod Kent's plan is
a good one, but unknown to him, Hans holby And
has already set his doubly scheme of destruction into action.
At this very moment, he is huddled in the shadow
of the factory wall that is still standing, while Joe,
his helper, widens the crack in.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
The wall with a mallet and spie.
Speaker 5 (27:49):
Say the girl miss Laine painted, Joe, Yeah, she was out.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
Cold when I opened the car. Made it easy to
handle it.
Speaker 8 (27:57):
You took off the ropes and the gag before you
put her in time under this wall, and you sure good?
Speaker 4 (28:03):
It must look like an accident. It's that reporters still
in there, stoopid around.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
He must be he didn't come out on the street. Yeah,
he's ready for the dynamite. I wrapped the stick and
cutting back and muffling. Here she goes put a long
cues on of Joe. Five minutes time enough for us
to get back to the house, good and better. Like
the fuse, What time is it? Five minutes to ten?
It means she'll blow a ten shot.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
And she goes Joe.
Speaker 8 (28:36):
A car coming up a street. Quick this way.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
Now that hole Vine isn't here at the factory, chief,
we can question his watchman. He's the same fellow who
tried to keep miss Lane and myself from entering Melville.
I can't understand Holvine's not being home, Ken, but take it.
Since you're saying miss Lane went up to weather View,
that's what worries me. Her car was parked in front
of Holbein's house, but the.
Speaker 4 (29:06):
Place was empty. We searched every room after we climbed
to that open window. Well, don't worry, let's look around here.
Hello anybody here? No answer? Help me have your flashlight?
I know the way over these breaks? Where's that watch?
What you were talking about? Oh? I don't know. It
(29:26):
seems to have vanished. I don't like this. What do
you mean? Oh, Holbin gone, miss Lane gone on the
watchman gone. He'll find them all. Chee wait a minute,
what you hear something? Ain't sputtering?
Speaker 5 (29:39):
No, No, I don't where's it coming over there? Well,
that's a blank wall. The only one left standing. Cried
upout them, condemned it. They're going to tear it down
in the morning.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
You still hear that?
Speaker 5 (29:48):
But yes, Painty, you didn't leave your car running, did you?
I can't remember chances how I did say. You've got
good hearing it. You can catch that motor riding. It's
pretty quiet.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
Oh, it's not a motor, it's just sputterings. I'm going
over and investigated. What that townholme, coun what time is it?
Must be ten o'clock, Chief? What's that over there? Cooks
like a woman's shoe. It is a woman's shoe, one
of Lowis Lane's shoes. Chief. Flow Us is somewhere around here,
maybe behind that wall. She's in danger.
Speaker 5 (30:20):
Ten o'clock and the fuse is burned down to its
last fraction of an inch. Only a few seconds left
or Superman to snatch low Us from disaster.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
What happens in these fleeting moments? June in next.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Time and follow the thrilling story of Superman.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
Up at the sky look in the plain and Cooperman.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
Superman is a copyrighted feature appearing in Action Comics magazine.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
Okay, folks, just got a few comments here and then
we will wrap up today. Well, I like that part
at the beginning where Clark is carefully looking through the
rubble instead of being really loud because he's trying to
not alert the Watchman, And it just goes to show
that Superman doesn't always have to be like everything is
(31:15):
just super loud and noisy and like full on superpowers,
but he can do things with stealth as well. And
he finds that the boiler is intact and immediately suspects
that something is not right with this picture. He also
finds something about the dolls and goes to the police. Now,
(31:39):
this part here I really like because Superman, with his
superpowers could easily just bust into the house of Hans
Holbeiner wherever he is and pick him up and fly
him off to jail and end of story. He could
(32:01):
easily do that. But Superman, and this is the thing
that I really like, is that he tries to when possible,
to go through legal means and to work with the
authorities and the police to go about things in a
lawful and legal way. So I really appreciate the fact
(32:21):
that Superman knows when to use restraint and when the
authorities should have a look at the situation. Also, when
he was talking to the police chief, I noticed that
the police chief sounded a lot like Hans Holbein, and
that makes me think that the same guy that was
(32:43):
playing the voice of Hans holbeen was probably also playing
the voice of the police chief. That really isn't an
anomaly on this show. It seems like many times these
sort of minor characters that only pop up for a
scene or whatever and then you don't see him again.
(33:03):
It seems like many times they are played by the
other actors, and that's probably to I don't know, save money,
maybe to keep from having to hire someone just to
act out a very small part. At any rate, the
kids at home probably would not have called on and
(33:24):
the police chief and Clark discover the black powder in
the dolls and that it's very explosive. So the question
at this point becomes, why is Hans Holbein packing explosive
powder into these innocent looking dolls. Now they don't say anything,
(33:45):
but I think it's easy to see where they are
getting their ideas from with a lot of their storylines
right now. This is right before America gets involved in
the world, and so there's a lot of conflict going
on in the world right now. In about a year
(34:06):
and a half from when this storyline aired, you know,
Pearl Harbor will have happened, and America will be getting
really involved in the war at that point. So the
reason that I say all that is it's no surprise
that a lot of these storylines, such as with the
Yellow Mass that we've heard earlier on and so forth,
(34:28):
that a lot of these storylines involved this sort of espionage, saboteuring,
and people secretly cooking up explosives to do who knows
what with Okay, so last we see in part two
here is that Lois is in danger, that her life
(34:51):
is in danger. Will Superman be able to figure out
what's going on and save her life? Well, we will
have to find out in the next episode. I guess
all right, everybody, thank you so much for listening. Really
do appreciate it. Send me emails and let me know
what you think about this storyline so far. O t R. M.
