We'll welcome back everybody to Superman on Saturdays. So glad
that you are tuning in as always. If you have
any comments, you can send them to otr msh at

kick off a brand new storyline here on the Old
(01:21):
Time Radio Superman Show. And this is actually one of
my favorite storylines. I really like the mystery and the suspense.
They wait a few episodes in before they really start
to kind of tell you what's going on, so I
love how they keep it a mystery as long as
(01:41):
they can. Those tend to be my favorite episodes on
the Superman Radio program. The title of our storyline that
we are kicking off today is the Emerald of the Incas. So,
without further ado, let's go ahead and get into part
one of the Emerald of the Incas. The title of
(02:05):
this episode is the Brent Wood Mystery, and this one
aired April first of nineteen forty.
Speaker 5 (02:16):
Enjoy presenting the transcription feature Superman Up at the Sky,
It's a plain, It's Superman, and now Superman.
Speaker 6 (02:34):
As our story opens today, Clark.
Speaker 5 (02:36):
Kent sits at his desk in the city room of
his newspaper, putting the finishing touches on a follow up
story about the bursting of the Great Dam at Dire Bill,
a strange adventure in which Superman played a thrilling part,
but already an even stranger adventure is at hand. Above
the clatter of typewriters and newstakers, Kent hears the door
of a private office open behind him. He half turns
(02:56):
in his chair just as Jay Hamlin, assistant to editor,
called him by name.
Speaker 7 (03:03):
Here, Clark Kent, right here, Come in here a minute.
Speaker 6 (03:07):
How's the door?
Speaker 7 (03:09):
This is something very special, Ken, and that mister White
we're here. I know that he'd want you to take
it on.
Speaker 6 (03:13):
Oh I don't think you know, miss Beecham.
Speaker 8 (03:15):
Do you know I'm afraid I don't, Elsie.
Speaker 6 (03:17):
This is Clark, Kent.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
How do you do, mister ken to lot it to know?
Speaker 8 (03:19):
He was Peacham?
Speaker 7 (03:20):
Sit down, Kent, Tay, close attention. You heard of doctor
George Haven Beecham, haven't you? Explorer scientist doctor Ellis?
Speaker 4 (03:27):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (03:27):
Yes, indeed. Well, elsie's his daughter. Oh yes, I've known
her since she was an infant, and her father is
one of my closest friends.
Speaker 6 (03:34):
Now here's the situation.
Speaker 7 (03:36):
Something mysterious and unusual has happened to doctor Beecham.
Speaker 6 (03:39):
But suppose you tell the story, Elsie.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
It may sound a little silly to mister camp for.
Speaker 8 (03:44):
I'm sure it won't go out ahead, mis Peacham.
Speaker 6 (03:47):
From the beginning, Elsie, Well.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
It's this way. Nine months ago my father went into
the jungles of South America to supervise the excavation of
some ancient tombs. He wrote to me regularly, and everything
seemed to be quite all right.
Speaker 6 (03:58):
How often did you hear from Elsie?
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
About once a week. The last letter came two days
before he sailed for home. Entity he told me not
to meet him at the boat.
Speaker 8 (04:07):
Ah, that's strange. Did he give any reason?
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Well? None, At all. He said he'd phone me, and
did he. Yes, he did, two hours after the boat docked.
Speaker 8 (04:15):
What did he say speech him?
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Practically nothing. He sounded almost ghostly, like a man afraid
of his life.
Speaker 6 (04:22):
Oh now you're just imagining things, Elsie.
Speaker 7 (04:24):
If I know your father, and I do, he's never
been afraid of anything.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
That's just what's had me worried. That and the instructions
he gave me.
Speaker 8 (04:32):
What were the instructions, Miss Peacham?
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Well? First he told me he couldn't see me for
quite some time.
Speaker 6 (04:36):
Betton itself is a natural, can't. Elsie and her father
have always been devoted to one another.
Speaker 8 (04:41):
I see, I'll go on to speach him.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
He said he was going out to Brentwood for a while,
that he had to be alone.
Speaker 8 (04:46):
Did he say where in Brentwood, Misspeach him?
Speaker 2 (04:48):
The Stonehouse? But he wanted me not to try to
communicate with him. He said he was quite well, and
that he'd brought back a native servant to look after him,
a half breed named Zingr.
Speaker 6 (04:57):
You did try to call him, though, didn't you.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
I I waited until yesterday. Then I couldn't stand it
any longer.
Speaker 8 (05:03):
You phoned, Yes, there was no answer. H that's queer.
If your father was using the stonehouse in Brentwood as
a hideaway, and what seems to me be there.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
That's just how I thought, mister Kent. No, no, you
know why I'm so worried.
Speaker 8 (05:18):
Have you thought of notifying the Brentwood police.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Oh no, I didn't, dare. Father despises publicity. He'd be
furious with me.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
There's only one thing to do, Ken, You'd take Elsie
to brent Would and find out what's what why?
Speaker 8 (05:30):
I'd be glad to let's see it's it's six now.
I'll suppose we have dinner, Miss Beecham, and then drive out.
I'd love to mister Ken, how shall we leave now?
We don't want to get out there too late.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
I'm ready if you are, let me know the moment
to find out anything.
Speaker 8 (05:45):
Sure things to.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Have one goodbye, Uncle Jay, and thanks a million forget.
Speaker 8 (05:49):
It and stop worrying.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Oh goodness, what a dreary looking place is this Breadwood?
Mister Ken.
Speaker 8 (06:05):
This is Breadwood, all right, Miss Beacham. And I think
that stonehouse back of those trees and behind that iron fence.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Well Dad's there. He simply doesn't want callers. Hi looks
completely closed up.
Speaker 8 (06:16):
Yes, not a light anywhere, I'll say, I guess we
passed the gate, the gates, you know, leading into the ground.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Oh well, what are you getting out for? Where are
you going, mister Ki?
Speaker 8 (06:29):
I just thought i'd run back and see if the
gates are open. Wait here a minute, will you?
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Well, don't leave me alone here too long, mister Kis.
Speaker 8 (06:34):
Don't worry miss Beecham.
Speaker 6 (06:35):
I'll be right back.
Speaker 8 (06:36):
I hope she doesn't try to follow me. Something about
the look of this fence and gate I don't quite like.
It's too carefully hidden away back at the shrubbery, purposely hidden.
I wonder why ah, here we are?
Speaker 9 (06:54):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (06:54):
I wonder if I can get through the fence or.
Speaker 6 (06:56):
Over it or.
Speaker 8 (06:59):
Electrified?
Speaker 10 (07:01):
Quite a joke, too, Ah, this looks like a job
for Superman. Pretty smart shooting high powered voltage through an
iron fence, but not smart enough. Get back out of
the shrubbery and look around. Ah, here's the gate that's
(07:22):
probably electrified too. Well, I'll just kick it in and
drive the car right through. Nothing like arriving in style.
Speaker 6 (07:29):
Here goes.
Speaker 8 (07:33):
Hey. Whoever built this gate certainly did want privacy. Well,
he won't have it long?
Speaker 6 (07:43):
That does it?
Speaker 8 (07:44):
Now back to miss Beecham as Clark.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Kent, Oh, here you are? Is everything all right?
Speaker 8 (07:55):
I can't say just yet, but things are certainly opening up.
Let's turn the car around and see what's going on
at that house?
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Eh, what are we going to do? Drive right in?
Speaker 9 (08:03):
Sure?
Speaker 6 (08:03):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Doesn't seem exactly as I rewarded, mister Kent.
Speaker 8 (08:07):
We'll find out soon enough. Ah, here's the entrance.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Why those pates did you say you've just.
Speaker 8 (08:13):
Opened them more or less?
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Why they look like they were blown in in a hurricane?
Speaker 8 (08:17):
Well they were old and rusty, Miss Beecham, they just
fell apart.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Well what are you stopping here on the driveway for?
And why are you switching off the lights?
Speaker 8 (08:27):
I look here, miss Peacham, I'm gonna tell you, quite frankly,
that we may run into trouble.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Mister Kent, what do you mean?
Speaker 8 (08:32):
No, Please don't get hysterical. I won't, oh, miss Peacham.
I want to go up to that house and have
a look around before well before they know we're here.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Mister Kent, do you think do you think anything's happened
to my father?
Speaker 8 (08:42):
I'm as speech him, honestly, I don't think anything.
Speaker 9 (08:45):
Not yet.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Then why all the secrecy? Why are you leaving me
here and going to the house yourself? Oh you must
know more than you're telling me.
Speaker 8 (08:52):
To believe me. I don't. It's just that your father
and whoever else is with him in the house seem
to want privacy, and they've tried to make sure of
it for some unknown reason. That privacy is vitally important
to them.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Oh, let me come with you now.
Speaker 8 (09:04):
Please. You just stay here and watch the car, and
if you see anything or want me for anything, blow
the horn.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Mister Kent. I'm afraid I do like it. Here be awful,
silence the.
Speaker 9 (09:15):
Dark, hawn.
Speaker 8 (09:15):
Now there's nothing to be afraid of. You just sit
tight while I investigate.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Where will you be?
Speaker 8 (09:20):
Not too far away? Remember now, if anything happens, just
blow that horn and keep blowing.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
All right, mister Kent. But please, Harry, Please Harry.
Speaker 8 (09:32):
Poor kid, she's frightened, stiff a little wonder. I don't
like to leave her alone, but she can't be around
when Superman's doing his stuff. That looks like he has to.
Speaker 10 (09:42):
Well, I'll just climb up the side of the stone
house a little way and see what's doing.
Speaker 5 (09:51):
Clinging to the second story window of stone house, Superman
peers into the dark interior, listens intently.
Speaker 8 (09:58):
A door slams, and suddenly the night ist.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
But the wild blowing of the auto horn and the
weird baying of hounds.
Speaker 8 (10:04):
That somebody's blowing the horn else you must be in trouble.
Speaker 5 (10:08):
All right, miss Vincham, I'm coming being attacked by huge masters.
Speaker 6 (10:18):
Miss Vincham, I'm coming.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Get me out. You're climbing through the window.
Speaker 8 (10:26):
In the carnisch.
Speaker 6 (10:27):
Don't get out.
Speaker 8 (10:28):
I'll take care of them.
Speaker 6 (10:40):
I'm black one.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
You can get you.
Speaker 6 (10:45):
Be like, all right?
Speaker 8 (10:47):
So do I how have this?
Speaker 6 (10:51):
How are you I want, Miss Beecham?
Speaker 8 (10:53):
How that you hounds home before I tell you?
Speaker 6 (10:55):
The piece is gone? Get away?
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Don't come back, mister Are they going?
Speaker 8 (11:01):
Mister Kent coming right back, Miss Peacham, And I've gone,
Miss peache You can come out of the car if
you like.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Oh, they frightened me, so mister Kent came out of nowhere.
Out of the dog is like woolves.
Speaker 8 (11:12):
It did look pretty dangerous, a black one particularly.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
I was sitting in the car waiting for you when
I heard them barking. Suddenly they were up in the
running bood. Oh, mister Kenneth was ghastly.
Speaker 8 (11:21):
Well it's all over now.
Speaker 11 (11:23):
I think I'll take you along with me, just in
case the dogs decided to return. I've discovered there's someone
in the house, maybe your father or mister ken what's
that hella?
Speaker 8 (11:36):
I don't know. Sounds like a.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Drum drum, mister Kenned's a tom Tom. Someone's beating a
tom town Why listen, it's coming nearer all the time. Look,
mister kemp yil through the trees. What a man a giant,
He's coming this way.
Speaker 5 (11:55):
Look what is it that Elsie Beacham is seen bearing
down on them?
Speaker 6 (12:03):
Man or monster?
Speaker 5 (12:04):
Does the weird beat of the jungle Tom Tom herald
its approach?
Speaker 6 (12:08):
What these father? Doctor Beacham? Is he or is he not? Safe?
Speaker 5 (12:12):
Behind the gray walls of Stonehouse. Tune in next time
and follow the exciting story of Superman.
Speaker 9 (12:22):
Up in the sky.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
Wop, it's a bird, it's a pain, It's Superman.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
Superman is a copyrighted feature appearing in Action Comics Magazine.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
All right, everybody, welcome back. Well we're off to a
nice little mystery here with this whole Brentwood mystery and
what is going on with this man, Elsie's father, mister Beacham,
And he's sort of gone into high it looks like,
(13:01):
and they're not hearing from him, and so there's a
lot of mystery and concern about whether he's okay and
what's going on. And at the very beginning of the episode,
we have a new character here on the show. We
don't have Perry White opening the storyline like normal. We
have Jay Hamlin. And that makes me wonder if Julian Noah,
(13:24):
the one, the man who played Perry White. That makes
me wonder if he was either sick or on vacation
or for some reason had to be out during this
story arc. The fact that they had to have someone
in his place, but I just found that interesting. We
also have a new character, temporary character. Marjorie Anderson, plays
(13:47):
the role of Elsie Beacham. Marjorie Anderson a little bit
of information about her. She was born November seventh of
nineteen thirteen and was a leading BBC radio broadcaster for
over thirty years. Between nineteen fifty five and nineteen sixty eight,
(14:08):
she presented Home for the Day on the BBC Home
Service and is remembered as a presenter of Woman's Hour
from nineteen fifty eight until her retirement in nineteen seventy two.
She passed away December fourteenth, nineteen ninety nine, So that's
(14:29):
just a little bit of background about her. One of
the things that I found interesting was that before Clark
and Elsie go to find out if Elsie's father is okay,
they're like, should we get a bite to eat first,
And it's like, yeah, you know, if you're worried about
(14:53):
your father's or anyone for that matter, if you're worried
about someone's well being and whether they might be in trouble,
probably not a great idea to stop and get dinner,
you know, probably need to get on out there and
see what's going on. But at the same time, though,
I do kind of like little stuff like that because
(15:16):
it makes the show feel real, you know, instead of
it just being serious dialogue all the time. These little,
seemingly meaningless interjections of dialogue really do help to make
these characters feel real. And you could imagine, you know,
being a kid listening at home in the forties and
being like, you know, well, Clark and Elsie go eat dinner,
(15:38):
and I go eat dinner. And so you know, that
makes it feel, you know, more real, I could imagine
to them. And Clark gets a date out of this.
I found that funny. Now, once they get out there,
they run into some mysterious circumstances and Clark finds out
(16:01):
that stone House is being protected by electrical wiring, and
we have the very first time on the Superman radio
program where Superman says, this is a job for Superman.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Wait here a minute, will Well, don't leave me alone
here too long, mister kids.
Speaker 8 (16:20):
Don't worry, Mimus beecham.
Speaker 6 (16:21):
I'll be right back.
Speaker 8 (16:23):
I hope she doesn't try to follow me. Something about
the look of this fence and gate, I don't quite like.
It's too carefully hidden away back of the shrubbery, purposely hidden.
I wonder why here we are now? I wonder if
I can get through the fence or over it? Electrified? Eh?
Speaker 10 (16:47):
Quite a joel too. Ah, this looks like a job
for Superman. Pretty smart shooting high powered voltage through an
iron fence, but not smart enough.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
So I found out they very interesting. And then of
course we have Clark continuing to investigate and the dogs
come up to terrorize Elsie. One thing about that scene
was he was obviously Superman in the leading moments up
to where the dogs come to attack Elsie. And so
(17:22):
when he's out there fighting the dogs off and protecting Elsie,
he's obviously speaking in his Superman voice, not in his
Clark Kent voice. So does that mean that he's in
his Superman costume and that Elsie is seeing him in
his Superman costume or did he switch back to his
Clark Kent outfit but still he's using sort of the
(17:43):
Superman voice, or does it mean that he was Superman,
you know, fighting off the dogs, but Elsie was just
so distracted and so terrorized by the dogs that she
just didn't notice. Found that very interesting and I didn't
really know what to make of that. Now, those are
obviously people in the studio that are doing the dog barking,
(18:07):
and I have to say it's you know, it's actually
pretty good in my opinion. I mean, if you listen
really carefully, you could probably pick out that that's definitely
humans that are acting and making the sound effects. But
they're doing a pretty good job with it. And you
could imagine in the studio with Bud Collier in the
(18:27):
sound effects team, you could imagine them sort of acting
this out without laughing, without just busting out laughing. I mean,
that had to have been hard to not bust out
laughing during that scene as they were acting that out.
We also have a little bit of what I think
is over acting by Elsie Beacham or Marjorie Anderson who's
(18:50):
playing Elsie Beacham, you know, the whole time through the place,
She's just kind of like, Oh, my goodness, whatever are
we going to do, Clark, Please don't leave me, Please
don't leave me alone. We're all going to die. Oh
my gosh. And this sort of this sort of overacting
(19:10):
is a little bit annoying, But I know what they're
trying to do. They're trying to play up the suspense
as much as possible for the listener. That's exactly what
they're trying to do. But I felt like she's definitely
definitely going overboard with it just a little bit, I
think if I remember correctly. And I don't know this
(19:31):
for sure, but I think she might tone down on
a little bit of that overacting for the rest of
the storyline. I can't say that for sure, but I
think she might, And we have her cliffhanger. Always got
to have a cliffhanger. And they see this giant man
coming at them, and of course Elsie is like look, look,
(19:52):
and that part of them where she's like look, that
was pretty intense. I mean, she was like screaming her
lungs out there. That was pretty.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
What a man, a giant He's coming this way.
Speaker 6 (20:06):
Look.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
But in conclusion of this particular episode, we have a
nice kickoff to what sounds to be a very fun
little mystery here on the Superman Radio Show, and I'm
definitely looking forward to the getting into the other five
episodes with you of this storyline. Notice also that we
(20:33):
haven't come into contact with mister Beacham yet, so we
don't know if he's even still alive or not. He
could be dead for all we know, and so they're
really leaving a lot of mystery and I love it
when they do that. All right, everybody, we're going to
take a quick break and then we'll be right back
with part two of the Emerald of the Incas. All right,
(21:02):
welcome back. So let's go ahead and get into part
two here of the Emerald of the Incas. The title
of this episode is The Giant of Brentwood. In this one,
aired April third of nineteen forty, Enjoy.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
Presenting the transcription feature Superman.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Up in the Sky.
Speaker 9 (21:31):
It's It's Superman.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
And now Superman When we Last saw him. Clark Kenneth
come to Stonehouse in the suburb of Brentwood with Elsie
Beacham to investigate the mystery surrounding Elsie's father, doctor George
Haven Beacham, world famous scientist and explorer. Recently returned from
the jungles of South America. Doctor Beacham has hidden himself
away with only a native servant for company, and refused
(21:55):
to see even his own daughter. Arriving at Stonehouse, Ken
had left the car to investigate the house, only to
be recalled by frantic blasts of an auto horn. Elsie,
left alone in the car, had been attacked by a
pair of vicious masteps and was in danger of her
life fighting off the dogs. Kent turn to reassure the girl,
only to be faced with a new terror.
Speaker 6 (22:16):
Listen, Oh, mister.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Kent, a giant man. I saw the tree is right,
He's gone.
Speaker 8 (22:21):
It's probably only the shadows in the branches.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
No I saw him, I know I did, And.
Speaker 8 (22:25):
There's nothing there now I can't see a thing. Look
do you see anything?
Speaker 2 (22:30):
I'm not sure. I don't think so, not now. But
I did. I know I did. Well. You heard the
tom tom beating, didn't you?
Speaker 6 (22:38):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (22:39):
And I saw the man, a gigantic man, and he
just stood there peering.
Speaker 8 (22:43):
Well he isn't there now, at least I don't think
so he is.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
I know he is. He's close to us, hiding somewhere,
stealing up on this.
Speaker 8 (22:52):
No, he's not for speech him. Now look here. You
stay here and I'll have a look around.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
No, don't go, mis Ken, don't leave me alone again.
I'lcome to.
Speaker 8 (23:00):
Can't tell what we may run into.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
I don't care. I feel safer with you.
Speaker 8 (23:03):
Please, Well, come on, we leave the car right here.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Who what are you going to do?
Speaker 8 (23:09):
First of all, we want to get into that house.
It looks completely deserted. But I know someone's in it,
my father, Do you think I maybe? I'm not sure yet.
I hold my arms beecham.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Oh wait, I thought I heard something, mister Kent. I
did the tom doom.
Speaker 8 (23:26):
Quick back of these bushes.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Crouch down there, mister kin, look out there in that
patch of moonlight.
Speaker 8 (23:33):
Great Scott, dear that's.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
What I saw, mister Kent.
Speaker 8 (23:38):
It is a giant, all not a giant, Miss Beauchamer.
It's a man. He's big, all right, But it's a man,
a tremendous, big black man.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
He's listening. He is. It's mister Kent. Oh who is he?
What's he doing?
Speaker 8 (23:50):
I'd like to know, wonder if he's the one I
heard walking in the house.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
Look he's moving again, mister Kent. He's coming this way.
Speaker 8 (23:57):
We're in the shadow. He can't see us here. Shut
this way toward the house. Keep down as much as
you can.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
He is, he's running.
Speaker 8 (24:04):
Mister quick you hide an air of speech him back
in that angle of the wall.
Speaker 6 (24:07):
How take care of this?
Speaker 9 (24:08):
No, no, you kill you go on quick, stay at
the sight, don't move till I call quick, speech and run.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
It's so done. I can't see it now.
Speaker 8 (24:15):
Then the girl out of the way. Superman goes to work.
I'll just give that giant a chance to try his
voodo on me. It's coming this way, all right, Oh,
my friend, you're due for a shock. About three more
steps and out we go.
Speaker 6 (24:31):
All right, what you're doing?
Speaker 8 (24:33):
Never mind what I'm going?
Speaker 6 (24:35):
What are you doing?
Speaker 8 (24:35):
And Where did you come from?
Speaker 6 (24:37):
So you'll come off the back. I've been looking for you.
I picked you a white man. Look out, I'm giving
you a fair warning. Oh you're sure running my tattoo.
Speaker 8 (24:45):
Now I'm not running.
Speaker 6 (24:46):
Oh you want to fight for you? Hop type tattoo?
Now I cut it. I don't pull that knife. Ives,
don't bother me. Just gonna pick you right off the ground.
Speaker 9 (24:59):
My head.
Speaker 6 (25:00):
You'll put me down, I kill you. Won't have a chance.
You're going up at the top of that tree, so
that'll hold you for a while.
Speaker 8 (25:11):
Oh where's that girl?
Speaker 6 (25:12):
Got to her?
Speaker 8 (25:13):
Miss peach? Miss peachum? Oh good, she never saw me?
Back to Clark Kent again?
Speaker 6 (25:21):
Or are you.
Speaker 8 (25:21):
Speachim are here?
Speaker 6 (25:23):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Mister Kent? What happened?
Speaker 8 (25:24):
Why didn't you see?
Speaker 2 (25:25):
Oh? I didn't dare Look. I just crouched into the
wall as close as I could. Mister Kent, the giant?
Where is he?
Speaker 8 (25:32):
Oh he just went away. I showed him off, didn't
you hear us?
Speaker 2 (25:35):
I heard you arguing? And then then a crash? Oh
what happened?
Speaker 8 (25:39):
Why he tripped and fell? Come on, speech, I want
to get into the house. See if that's the doors open?
Speaker 2 (25:46):
No?
Speaker 8 (25:46):
Oh, it's locked me inside, and in this case, I
think we're justified in housebreaking. Stand back a little my speech.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Him, Goodness, you can't break through that.
Speaker 8 (25:54):
That isn't so strong. I'll just throw a stone at
the lock. Stand back of that tree at might bounce
right now?
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Why, mister Ken you broke it all a beer.
Speaker 8 (26:05):
I told you it wasn't strong. You want how quick? Inside?
Speaker 2 (26:08):
Mister Kent? Do you think it's safe?
Speaker 8 (26:10):
It's safer than outside. Just now, maybe I can fasten
what's left of that door behind us. Yes, Look, while
I broke was the lock and there's a steel bar
that drops right across it.
Speaker 6 (26:20):
There we are.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Now, it's black as pitch. I can't see a thing.
Speaker 8 (26:26):
No, wait, wait, while I strike a match.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
You seemed to be in kind of a hallway.
Speaker 8 (26:31):
Eh, that's a little better, not much. Yes, you're right,
miss Beach. And we are in the hall and this
looks like the library or living room.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Come on, Oh, here's a piece of candles.
Speaker 8 (26:42):
Oh good, quick, match is almost out. That's the stuff.
Now I can at least see where we're going.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Goodness, a dreadful place, mister Kent. Wait, it looks.
Speaker 8 (26:52):
Halted, Yes, sir, I admit, I've seen more attractive places,
that's a fact.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
What was that? I heard something? Creaky?
Speaker 8 (27:00):
Quiet? Oh, I don't hear anything.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
It was kind of a creaking upstairs, mister Ken. What
do you suppose my father is?
Speaker 8 (27:09):
I don't know, Miss Peacham. I'm afraid he isn't here.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Why what made you think that?
Speaker 8 (27:17):
I don't think anybody's here. If there were, why haven't
they turned up? Made enough noise breaking in?
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Listen? There it is again, mister Kent. There is someone
walking around in the room just above us.
Speaker 8 (27:33):
All right, stay here, miss Peacham, Old, what.
Speaker 6 (27:36):
Are you going to do?
Speaker 8 (27:37):
And want to find out who were?
Speaker 6 (27:38):
What that is?
Speaker 8 (27:39):
Let me come to No, not this time, please.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Mister k I'm frightened. I don't like this place. Something's
going to happen.
Speaker 8 (27:45):
Easy, No, miss Peacham, try not to give away like that.
We're all right, I'm dead.
Speaker 9 (27:50):
We're dead.
Speaker 8 (27:51):
And what's going on here?
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Mister Ki? What is this?
Speaker 8 (27:55):
Peacham? I don't know, but there's only one way to
find out, and that's why going right up there, I'm looking,
mister Kit. Don't got to and you've got to stay
here now, please, It's the only way.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
All right, all right if if that's what you want
me to do.
Speaker 8 (28:07):
Good girl, that's the way to talk. I won't belong
and if anything happens, I'll come right down again.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Oh hurry, hurry as fast as you can.
Speaker 8 (28:14):
If you want me, just call.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
Don't you don't you want the Canada.
Speaker 8 (28:19):
I want to leave you in the dark.
Speaker 6 (28:20):
I got the matches.
Speaker 8 (28:21):
You just stay right there in that room. Speachim.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Eh.
Speaker 8 (28:28):
Well then just see who is in that roman. Ah.
Speaker 6 (28:33):
Here, this is the door.
Speaker 8 (28:38):
Nothing doing, I thought so uh huh locked. I thought
that too. If there is someone inside, I can hear
him breathing.
Speaker 6 (28:49):
Open up, Please open this door.
Speaker 8 (28:53):
Come on, you can hear me, all right, I said,
open this door. Well, if you don't open this door,
I'll break it down.
Speaker 9 (29:00):
People.
Speaker 8 (29:00):
Well, I'll shoot open the door.
Speaker 6 (29:02):
I want you.
Speaker 8 (29:05):
For the last time, for the world, for all.
Speaker 6 (29:09):
Too bad.
Speaker 5 (29:11):
I don't try that gun again.
Speaker 8 (29:12):
Give it here. You haven't got stock it.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Give me that gun.
Speaker 8 (29:18):
That's better.
Speaker 9 (29:18):
Now then you've tracked me down, but you won't get it.
Speaker 8 (29:21):
You'll never get it.
Speaker 6 (29:21):
Put that chair down.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
Now.
Speaker 8 (29:24):
Listen to me, will you.
Speaker 6 (29:24):
I'm your friend. You'll lie.
Speaker 9 (29:25):
You can't fool me. How you doctor Beacham, you know
I am, but you'll never get what you're looking for.
Speaker 6 (29:29):
Doctor.
Speaker 8 (29:30):
I'm not looking for anything except you. How will you listen.
Speaker 12 (29:34):
I'm a reporter, Clark Kent, working for the Daily Planet,
The Daily Planets. Your friend Jay Hamlin, assistant editor. He
sent me down here with your daughter, Elpie Elsie. Don't
tell me she's here? Oh doctor, she's been worried to death.
She asked us to help her. I knew what I
was doing, but you shouldn't have come here or brought Elsie.
Speaker 8 (29:53):
But you were killing her with anxiety. She was afraid
something had happened to you. I was killing how you've
killed up by bringing you here?
Speaker 6 (29:59):
What he killed us?
Speaker 9 (30:00):
All?
Speaker 8 (30:01):
Where is she?
Speaker 6 (30:02):
Quick? Where is she?
Speaker 8 (30:03):
She's right downstairs in the library. Oh doctor, come down
and talk to her. When you're a fool. You don't know,
you don't know what's happening here. I can't go down?
Speaker 9 (30:11):
Why not?
Speaker 6 (30:12):
Doctor?
Speaker 9 (30:12):
What's wrong? I tell you I can't. I can't leave
this room. Now we'll see else.
Speaker 11 (30:25):
Come on, doctor, quick, downstairs, let's be Jim, let's Beechob.
Speaker 8 (30:31):
Come on, man, I'm coming fork out for the stairs. Doctor.
Speaker 9 (30:34):
There was a light down there, Elsie, let's Beecham.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Where's the light?
Speaker 6 (30:39):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (30:40):
What's happening?
Speaker 9 (30:40):
I can't see and strike a light?
Speaker 12 (30:42):
What a mess my matches, Elsie, Elsie, here we are
now we can see something there?
Speaker 8 (30:50):
Where is she kent? Where's my thought?
Speaker 6 (30:53):
Why you fool? I told you you've brought a hero. No, no,
she's gone.
Speaker 8 (30:58):
It's Beecham.
Speaker 6 (30:59):
There's page jels elsieper rio, Elsie.
Speaker 5 (31:05):
The vast empty house rings with echoes, but no answer comes.
Speaker 6 (31:09):
Elsie.
Speaker 8 (31:10):
Beacham has vanished.
Speaker 5 (31:12):
Where is she gone? What shadowy figure came stealing in
through the half broken door? And finally, what is the
secret that doctor Beacham has been guarding so carefully in Stonehouse,
guarding with his very life. Be with us again next
time and follow the story, and remember be sure to
tune in the next thrilling installment of the amazing transcription
(31:32):
feature Superman Up in the Sky.
Speaker 9 (31:38):
Noop, it's a bird, it's a plain, It's Superman.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
Superman is a copyrighted feature appearing in Action Comics magazine.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
All right, everybody, welcome back. Well I couldn't help but
laugh at the beginning, saying where Clark Superman is fighting
this man? And he just kind of throws him up
in the tree. It's like, yep, I'm just gonna throw
you up in the tree and leave you there. And
then he goes back to Elsie and Elsie's like what happened?
(32:15):
And Clark was like, oh, I just shoot him off.
I just shoot him away.
Speaker 6 (32:21):
It's like, what.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
Is he a fly? Oh my gosh. And then we
have the scene where he like breaks the lock or
whatever and he's like, well, the lock must not have
been very strong. That reminded me of something like straight
off of Smallville, where Tom Welling is Clark can he
like busts the lock open and he's like, well, the
(32:47):
lock must have been rusted. Good stuff. And then Elsie
and Clark get in the house and Clark has matches
and that was I found that odd. Wow would you
just carry around matches four? And it made me wonder
did Clark smoke? I mean, this is the nineteen forties
and so smoking was kind of seen as pretty common
(33:10):
and pretty okay, So it makes you wonder if Clark smoked.
And from what I've been told, he did smoke some
in the comic books as Clark Kent, not as Superman,
of course, but as Clark Kent, so I found that
very interesting.
Speaker 6 (33:25):
And then we have.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
Clark who discovers that doctor Beacham is hold up in
a room and doctor Beacham starts shooting at Clark, and
of course that doesn't affect Clark at all. And this
one scene I just kind of found frustrating because doctor
Beacham was like, you ful, you fool. I can't believe
(33:48):
that you're here and that you brought Elsie. You have
no idea what's going on, and he just keeps calling
Clark a full and it's like, okay, doctor Beacham, why
don't you explain to Clark what's going going on instead
of calling him a fool. That way he won't be
a fool anymore. And then we find out that someone
(34:08):
breaks in and Elsie is taken, and so Clark is
really in hot water now with doctor Beacham. So there's
still a lot of mystery and suspense going on here.
We have another good cliffhanger with Elsie being apparently taken
and we still don't know what's going on. We are
(34:29):
through episode two now and we still don't really know
what is going on, and hopefully in the next episode
they will begin to unravel these circumstances surrounding this mystery.
All right, everybody, hope that you are enjoying this storyline
so far. I sure am a really cool setup for
(34:53):
a mystery here. We really just don't know much of
what's going on, and I really like that. Uh okay,
folks again, if you have any comments, you can send
them to O.
