Speaker 3 (00:19):
You So, for the best few months I've been working
with the National Foundation on Swimming Disorders on becoming a
panelist for an upcoming event which is tomorrow at ten
(00:40):
ten am called the Externally mad Uh Patient Focused Drug
Development Meaning for dysphasia, and they will be true panels.
(01:02):
First panel is in the morning and that focuses on
the life are the patients said I have this rator
and how it affects of their lives daily. And then
(01:22):
the second panel, which is in the afternoon starting around
one o'clock, is the panel that I'll be on, which
focuses on more of the treatment side of tysphrasia and
when we talking about current treatments that we're doing or
(01:47):
I have done, and what we would like to see
in future treatments.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
You know, I just it's been a little while. Tell
us how you're doing and what what's been going on.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
I'm doing pretty well. I am. I am dealing with
some that's why it's pain. I've been doing with that
since December last year. Otherwise I'm doing very well. Just
been busy, you know, prea preparing for this meeting that's tomorrow.
(02:34):
Otherwise life has been pretty pretty good.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Yeah, I know, it's it's it's been a minute, but
I'm just I'm always glad to hear that you're doing
well and I'm excited for this pretent. Now, what kind
of prep work maybe tekets behind the scenes have you
been doing to make this presentation tomorrow or later today?
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Yeah, so the preparation has been, uh, very involved. First
we had a meaning about what the actual meaning will
be about, and then we had to talk about what
(03:20):
the panelists on both planels are going to be doing.
Before and during the meaning, we had to right statements
about our experiences with dys rasia. Planel one, like I said,
(03:46):
was is focusing on daily life with dys rasia, and
Channel two, which is my channel, who who focuses their
statements on any kind of chantments of that that they
have done what will be doing for the chatment of
(04:09):
the radia.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Now, this is a national organization, so how many folks
are in this organization and how many will be presenting.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
To So each channel has five people on both patients
and caregivers. Caregivers of people with this radia and the
whole organization. I'm not sure how many people there are,
(04:39):
but there are counting. And then I should say this
whole meaning is gonna be infanto, the f p A
and other, yeah, and other, I guess an organization related
(05:01):
to the FDA.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Well, congrats on this honor.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
And by the way, for those who don't know, Danny's
been working at this for years and years and years.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, been going.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Eating so well, oh, that's the thing I should talk about.
So a couple of weeks ago, my former UH speech
therapist in my swallowing a therapy for in the past decade.
(05:35):
Both times she reached out to me saying that she's
doing research on swallowing and voice and she was. She
wanted me to come in and pretty much be a
laborat uh UH and do a swallow test and then
(05:58):
do some voice exercises. So of course, I said, guest,
so that I did this lot of test. I have
to tell you that this is the first lot test
where I was very relaxed because I didn't have to
think about all on with the fail or path. I
(06:20):
could just do my thing and be done. So that
was that was exciting. And then we did some voice
exercises like I read some words and write some folwebs
and all that. So I'm very happy that I did
(06:40):
that because because I knew that it's important, especially since
I'm also doing this meeting.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Absolutely, Dan, Now let me ask you this, uh, because
us in this prep is it did you get connected
with them through Mercy Hospital?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Is their connection there?
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Because I know Mercy was a major part of what
you've been, uh, you know, going through and and you
know achieving.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Really yeah, and I see now this organization, the National
Founders Foundation of Swallowing Disorders. I I got connected with
them through a friend of my mom who's a speech
therapist and also part of this organization. So for the
(07:41):
past three years, almost three years, I've been pretty active
with contending all the webinars and uh support group meanings
which actually one one's coming up the fun Fridays.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
So yeah, that's awesome, And I want to thank you
for inspiring me to get involved with the u o AA.
The awesome association. Look out that's taken off. Have you association?
Are you part of this group or what?

he signed up together?
Speaker 2 (08:24):

Speaker 1 (08:24):
No, that's right, and your story inspired me to join it.
And now we're both bringing awareness, which is which is great.
And we've talked about the crossover from these different uh
you know, disabilities, whatever you want to say they are.
You know, there's a crossover. Everybody's supporting each other in
different realms.
Speaker 2 (08:43):

Speaker 1 (08:44):

involved with the Spine Association. Any updates there that you
can right, I'm waiting to see you on a webinar.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Suit Yeah, I too long, So I just we had
two webinars last month, one or one last month and
then one the month before about the first one was
about medicaid because you know they're threatening to cut that,
(09:20):
so we talked about our experiences with medicaid. I didn't
get to talk about mine during that such session because
we ran at a time. But last month we also
(09:40):
talked about education because they're starting to cut the ball
of the education, and I did get to talk about
my experiences with how my school life was.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
And all line, well that that's awesome and I gotta
jump on there again.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
I know that you and Joe are very involved in
it can really again crossing over to different things. It
helps everybody hear each other out. Really, so I love
all right now. You know, I know we talked about
this before, but it is the fortith anniversary of the Games,
and I swear I asked.
Speaker 2 (10:26):

Speaker 3 (10:29):
Yes, I was fucked to damn up onto high school.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
And do you do you have any fund where they
found memories for you?
Speaker 3 (10:39):

class came to chimney on.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
No, that's awesome. And by the way, I.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Every yere you go and you see all the kids
cheering everybody on, you know, the able body kids steering on,
the kids physically challenge.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
It's special. You know, there's something about watching these kids who.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Are never well you know, may never experience that coming
out and cheering on. It's good to have both. You know,
it's gonna have those kids exposed to this. And then
you know, as someone that I could lessen bullying too.
If these able body kids can see it firsthand, definitely,
so it's always great. And man, we gotta catch up.
(11:26):
