Speaker 3 (00:04):
I'm Deshanie and you are listening to the monthly mill
Fan News and Views show, broadcasting live on Maritime Radio
on ninety six point five FM and on the Maritime website.
Speaker 4 (00:15):
Welcome to our monthly meal News and Views show at
the Maritime and Radio. I'm Ted Robinson, your host for
the evening, and I'm excited to introduce a fantastic panal
he's got here, the energetic stand Godwin. If you'd just
seen them just come up the stairs, I'm not so sure. Yeah,
Energey anyway. But even better than that, we have one
(00:36):
of our own, very own lionesses in mere Locket.
Speaker 5 (00:40):
Hello, Mia, Hi, guys, you're right evening, you're right, yeah, all.
Speaker 6 (00:47):
Good, Thank you all good? How are you?
Speaker 7 (00:48):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (00:49):
We're wonderful, brilliant have you on the show. It's nice
to have someone is really a footballer and not us
people that just talk about it, So thank you for
joining us, Mia for having me. Let's start off by
considering the new signing is mill Wallstown. We'll start with you.
What do you reckon about the new goalkeeper that we've got,
(01:09):
Max krow coom.
Speaker 8 (01:10):
Well, I was when I saw he that he'd signed
for us, and because the name was completely unknown to
me at the time, and I thought, we said, well,
you know, I never heard of him, never seen his
name mentioned or anything until then.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
But I read up on him.
Speaker 8 (01:25):
And you know, because it's all different on papers, what's
what we're going to see. But clearly, uh, you know,
people have seen something in him. So he's an unknown quantity.
But I've got no doubt once he gets into the
swing of it down at the Den, he'll be okay.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
I mean, well he was at Burton last year. He's
New Zealand's number one, okay, has never already made it
through to the World Cup, so he's an international player.
So he seemed to have a pretty good record last
year with Burton, so on his fingers cross him. It's
it's something that we needed.
Speaker 8 (02:00):
Yeah, I mean, there's no doubt because I think the
injury to the goalkeeper from last Sea is going to
go on longer than anticipated. So yeah, no, I mean,
that's that's fine, and of course all the best to
Liam Roberts with his new club at Mansfield. Let's hope
the mister Cloff there is not as nasty as the
mister Clough that there was before him. But I'm sure
(02:21):
if you w what about you, mey, do you know
anything about Max Krokou?
Speaker 6 (02:28):
You know what, I'm not really not really familiar.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
Come on, you're a professional footballer to know these people.
Speaker 5 (02:36):
Yeah, I'll let you down there, and no, I'm not
familiar with him, but hopefully he comes in and he
shows us at the back.
Speaker 6 (02:43):
Hopefully.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Well, what we talk about, which you will know me,
is how important having a good goalkeeper is to any team.
And I mean obviously we lost our number oneions and
so bringing in someone him was in really important, a
bit like the lion Isses. I don't doubt you've got
to have a good goalkeeper.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
Yeah, yeah, now, one hundred percent. It's a massive part
of the squad. Obviously, the keeper can see everything from
the back, so they've got the best view on the pitch.
Speaker 6 (03:07):
In my opinion, I'm going.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
To keep floating in and out with the line is
is as we go through the show me obviously, because
I want to make the most of you being on it.
Did we not just sign a young lady who's a goalkeeper?
Speaker 6 (03:18):
We have? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (03:19):
So abby she I believe she came from QPR. She
also does a bit of coaching with our with our youth.
So Abby is our new number one. We've also got
Ev as our number two. EV's a young promacy and keeper.
She's been at Millwall for a few seasons now, coming
(03:39):
through from the under eighteens and so yeah, we've we've
made a good addition in Abbi. So like I said,
it's really important to have a sturdy keeper. So looking
forward to them to getting the season started with her.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
It sounds like both Millwall and the mill line Isses
have brought in already very good keepers. One that coach
is brilliant for the line that says, let's move on
to our next signing Stanley and come a little bit
out of the blue. But I for one am absolutely
over the moon that we've signed him. And that's Josh
Coben coming on what they say. He's going to be
a man to a record fee by the end of
(04:14):
the day by understanding that the add on payments are
identity to do with us going up, so hopefully next
season whoever we're paying that money to, we'll get it. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (04:22):
No, I mean he's a good sign and in a
way I think we're lucky to get him.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
In as much as one.
Speaker 8 (04:29):
I was surprised that he was allowed to come out
on loan in the first place, you know, you know
when we got him on loan, uh, and we've seen
him before and he was, you know, he had all
the makings there have a good player. And he come
down to the award and he's I think he scored
on his debut, didn't he right, yeah?
Speaker 4 (04:46):
Right, And so he's you know, he's a good player.
Speaker 8 (04:49):
And what I like about him, he's got he's not
got blinding pace, but he's got a good.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Pace, so we can play the ball through fruit.
Speaker 8 (04:57):
Of him and then he can run onto it like
you know. And again, and I'm really pleased with the signing.
So presumably the new manager wherever that's likely to be
his fortunate self. Well, he's not what I want, So
that's how we've got it. Not that I'm complaining, but no, no,
I think he's a good sign.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
I think it was vital to get him, having seen
the partnership that hopefully we're going to see a lot
more of with Mailer Vich. He gives us a bit
of strength up there. He's a mobile, old type center
forward for one of a better way. I put it
because he was going to knock a few center afts
about like he did last season. I mean last season
he was interrupted with a nasty injury that he got,
(05:37):
which was just one of them things when he got
it at Oxford, you know, and us mill will fans
his injury prone. He's had one injury, He's twenty one
years of age coming up with twenty two bags are potential.
I can only see hopefully he keeps himself fit for
the next season, but I can see what we've had
in the past in your Cascarinos and sharing them's and
(05:58):
your Morrison's and Neil Harris and Morrison and Gregory are
partnership there really do well for us, I think, really.
Speaker 8 (06:06):
I mean what I'm opening is where we don't have
a repeat of net last season is on the question
of the injuries, because I mean that, I mean they
were just at one point when it was two a
week and it wasn't for a couple of days. He
just went and you just thought, where's to in can
account all this? And then it did. So all I'm
opening is we've got these players and his presuming is
(06:27):
more to come. We know players are going to get injured,
but all I'm opening is we just don't go through
the same injury, crist.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
What do you reckon? Josh Coben.
Speaker 6 (06:38):
And sorry guys, and I'm still here.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Got it off already.
Speaker 6 (06:43):
There's a chance technical difficulties.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
Yeah, no, Josh, So the information I haven't Josh was
he originally at Millwall when on loan at Middlesborough.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
No other way around, he was at Middlesborough.
Speaker 6 (06:59):
That's it. Goalscorer, I mean just as important as a keeper.
The keeper stops goals from going in. The goalskeeper, the
goalkit scorer are wins your games.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
So well, you need to center forward in these days.
That's mobile and brings other players into the game as well,
didn't you me? I mean, that's that's fight. It's the
ball gets hoofed out. You need someone that can hold
it up and bring the rest of you into play,
or you can play the ball into a player that
can you know, get you up the pitch. Basically.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
Yeah, No, I think it'll be a really really good
addition for the men's side. War with last season we
were flying and I think we just need to obviously
now have that clinical touch and that's the that's the
bit we're missing to get us promoted into the prem
So fingers crossing he hits the ground running, will stay.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Awake me because I'll be back with I've got a
list of about eight players. I know that the Lionesses
have signed, and I want you to film me in
on a minute. In a minute, but we just go
one bit further. Stand, what do you reckon about who
else we need to come in? There's been obviously a
lot of talk about Zack Sturge from last season, who
we all seem to hope he's going to come on board.
But I think I'd like to see one or two more.
Speaker 8 (08:08):
Yeah, yeah, I mean as regards to Sturge, I mean yeah,
I mean I think he would be a really important
sign in the web because I just think that when
he come on he gave his base at the back,
he got up the field, you know, and he'd be
he's critical. Yeah, I mean, it's yeah. I mean, I've
(08:29):
got no doubt there will be other players coming. But
then I think what's going to happen is I suspect
that there might be players that if they come our way,
we might not even know they are. Yeah, because I
think because I think now last season did it. I mean,
we'd never heard of my highly of VI shop but
until he turned up and some of these others, and
I think that wouldn't surprise him if that happens again
this year, I'm not complaining.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
If he does, fine, no, I think, and I know
we've had a sort of chat off there about this
sort of thing, But I believe it was the loss
of not the loss that moving on should we say
of George Honeyman, George Saville and losing Hutch and Murray Wallace.
That's a lot of championship experience that's gone out of
the team. And I believe that we need, certainly in
(09:12):
the midfield area, someone to back up Billy Mitchell and
Casper Deanora. So I'll be looking to sign personally a
good championship class center of midfield player to come in.
Well that would be God only knows. But I mean,
I'm all for the youth of what we've been bringing in,
like in January when we had the Zach Lovelaces and
(09:34):
Benicia Bago and you know, and we're going to wait
for them to develop and see what happens with them.
But I think if we're going to have a real
pushy this year, we need to have another class midfield player.
Speaker 8 (09:45):
Well, I think, I mean, I mean, with regards to
the players you mentioned sid, I mean, I mean it
was all if you like the wrong side of thirty,
I mean, and that school is going to be a problem.
But then in saying that, you mean all that you
want players and whatever. I mean I just said the
other day, Right, if he takes Sunderland, I mean, Somedon
could promoted with a team of what average age of
(10:07):
twenty two?
Speaker 4 (10:08):
Yeah, but they had someone like Ballad in there, who
was you know, he's only early twenties, but he'd a
lot of championship That's right, That's right. That's what I'm
looking at. I think you need a midfielder somewhere from
the age of twenty three up to twenty eight in
that bracket that's got plenty of championship experience, so that
we're not going to miss the likes of Billy Neil
war I think, which is where Seville used to towards
(10:29):
the end of the season. That's what Alex Neil seemed
to do. He had Mitchell and Donor playing there, and
George Savil used to come on for the last twenty
minutes son. But then the other thing he said, who knows.
Speaker 8 (10:39):
I mean, he might well change it around the way
he plays in midfield is something we just don't know.
But I mean, but we definitely, we definitely need replacements in.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
I'm sure there's going to be another couple coming along,
absolutely without any shadow of that. And I'm with you,
by the way, was that Sturge. I was very impressed
with him last year. I think it would be a
real good addition. But it seems to be taking a
bit of time to get done that one. But let's
keep their fingers crossed right now, Mia, have you you
still wait right? This is your moment to shine me
(11:13):
and now because this is all about the Lionesses. Now,
I don't know if you know this, but I mean,
you've been back to preseason training, haven't you recently? You've
been back into preseason training.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Yeah, yeah, so the girls were back here and I
believe we started two weeks ago. So yeah, we've had
now had about four or five sessions underneath a belt,
got to know all the new players. So yeah, we've
been hitting the ground running season quite early.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
I think I've got a list here of eight players.
I think that roughly, but we've got some let me know,
we've got some funny names in the monks. And yeah,
I mean it would be my turn to eyes to
show when I've got to read this lot out, but
I'll give it a go, and if as Ike speak
to them, you can let me know where they play
and who they are. The first one I've got is
Gabby Buddle Smith.
Speaker 6 (12:01):
Yeah, yeah, so Gamy.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
She's as good as her name.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
It's a bit of a mouthful, it is, So yeah,
Gabby's a striker. So, like you were saying, really important
part of the squad this season coming in. We've also
got obviously Cadar who's one of our under eighteens who
has now joined us permanently in the first team. So
Kada's she's obviously young and hungary, which is really good.
(12:31):
She scored a hat trick at the then last season.
But yeah, Gabby's she's came from Sutton and she is
a striker, really directs a bit like what you were saying,
hold up play, I think is one of her strongest
points and something we definitely need someone strong upfront to
hold up play. And and yeah, just slowed the game
(12:53):
down a bit for us. So Gabbia be a really
important part of what we're what we want to achieve
this season.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
That's brilliant. I hope we've been a contract that she signed,
that she went. Her shirt gets sold with her name
on the becks. She gets paid per letter, if you
know what I mean, because that would be a few.
But anyway, there's a few others that might make. The
next one I've got is abb Abbie Berevik. Is that right?
That's the goalkeeper.
Speaker 6 (13:15):
That's it. Yeah, that's Abby and that's our keeper from QBI.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Yeah, welcome.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Yeah. Next one I've got is Yearly's Dervis.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
Yearly is Servish. Yeah, another mouthfuls. So well I'm there.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
Am I doing all right?
Speaker 6 (13:27):
So you know what, you know what, you'll do better
than me.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
If I was pronouncing, I thought you were going to
ask me to pronounce them.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
I might do the next one, but looks of it.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
Yellois is I believe Yellows is a winger slash left back,
well like a full back position. Again, Yellis is reasonably young.
So we've got new young fresh blood coming into the
squad to really make it exciting this season. And I
think we're going through it and we want promotion. So
(13:58):
so yeah, Yellis is another a bit like Gabby. She's
she's young, and she's direct, so an exciting player I want.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
To watch definitely, that's exactly what you want. And now
you could pronounce the next one if I say it
starts with a plan. I've got Plin Langley, right, is it?
Speaker 6 (14:17):
Ah? That's it?
Speaker 5 (14:18):
Yeah, welllang pla Milan Langley right.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
Yeah, sounds about two shirts to get her name one
and what's plo is she? What's all?
Speaker 5 (14:30):
So Porsche is twenty two years old and she is
a winger. I believe she's righted so again really direct.
Speaker 6 (14:41):
Myself being a winger as well, it's.
Speaker 5 (14:43):
As playing the opposite side to me, So it's we
we've obviously been building that relationship in training and she's
a really she's a really promising players who and just
like I said for the other girls, really direct, really athletic,
really quick, which we need.
Speaker 6 (15:01):
Obviously, you're like your wingers.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
To have a bit of speed about not saying that
I'm using.
Speaker 6 (15:06):
Bolt, but I try.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
Remember you've got to keep up with her.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
Yeah no, no, well yeah, that's the that's the worrying
things I've been doing my sprints.
Speaker 6 (15:15):
But yeah, she again, she's she's.
Speaker 5 (15:18):
Going to come into the squad and give us that
attacking dynamic, which again maybe was lacking a bit last season.
But to have the diversity up front in terms of
what players can bring now is something which is going
to be really exciting. And Jack and Tees have done
a great job recruiting this season, so yeah, exciting times ahead.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
So's Porulscha. Then the right wing across to the far post,
and who's going to be there?
Speaker 6 (15:40):
Mere looking at the back place.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
You've got it right, good, good, you're listening. And then
I've got Olivia Coldrick.
Speaker 6 (15:48):
Yeah, so Olivia.
Speaker 5 (15:50):
I believe Olivia came from Bromley Academy, so which obviously
is nice for me as well, because I think when
I spoke to you guys in the past, I tell
you about my coaching experience down up Bromley. So Olivia
came from their academy. I believe Olivia is a defender.
I think she can do a fallback position but also
(16:13):
a center back.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
So versatile.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
Yeah, sadly what we need.
Speaker 5 (16:17):
Like I just said, so, Olivia is one of our
probably one of our younger.
Speaker 6 (16:22):
Players in the side. But technically really good.
Speaker 5 (16:27):
And yeah, the way she can play, the way she
plays or I can already see in training she's she's
got a mature swagger about about her style of plays.
Speaker 6 (16:37):
So age is just a number.
Speaker 5 (16:39):
She she's fitting really well with the girls. One to
look look for definitely, yeah, yeah, definitely one to look for.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
Next one. They're getting easier these names. Ellie Manning, Ellie Manning.
Speaker 5 (16:49):
Yeah, so Ellie was originally at Millwall Lionuses before, so
she's actually come back. She's returned to the stumping ground
she used to play at the Lionesses before. Well, obviously
I'm twenty three.
Speaker 6 (17:06):
Now I am.
Speaker 5 (17:09):
You know what, yeah, I am, I am. But Ellie
is definitely one of our more senior players now. She
used to play for meal Wall with Kira Watling when
Kira used to play for meal Wall before she left
and then came back.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
So oh no, Kira sponsored her last year.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Kira.
Speaker 6 (17:27):
Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 5 (17:27):
So yeah, Ellie, Ellie would be such a final part
of the team, even just to bring experience in.
Speaker 6 (17:34):
The level she's played at.
Speaker 5 (17:36):
Ellie's played at all different levels, I believe championship level.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
It's good to have someone like that. The experience company.
There's plenty of young young girls around there, so it's
nice to have a little bit of experience as well
with it.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
Yeah yeah, and definitely I believe Ellie plays at the
back too, So definitely to have that maturity at the
back alongside with with Jordan Butler osly our club captain,
and then to kind of guide players like Olivia, to
kind of guide them in the right direction.
Speaker 6 (18:02):
And Olivia will come.
Speaker 5 (18:04):
On and leaps and bounds if she's learning from the
lights of Elie. So yeah, really promise and sign them.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
And it was one more yesterday. I can't think of
her name else.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
Elsa, Yeah, yeah, yeah, so again else is another winger.
So a lot of competition this season out wide.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
You're going to play will Welf running the line.
Speaker 5 (18:25):
Girl, Yeah, picking up the bottles.
Speaker 6 (18:30):
And the changes. I'm aware of it.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
So Elsa is again, just like the other girls, a
young winger, and she's athletic, got a good eye for goal.
So like I said, I think she can also do
a center forward role.
Speaker 6 (18:48):
So again we've we've also.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
Got that, Uh, a lot of players can play in
different positions. I can even do a roll up front,
So yeah, Elsa, she's another promising youngster coming from the ranks,
and and yeah, it makes it more exciting for.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
This It sounds like not sited me, but your said
the manager. He's gone for some young, versatile players, so
hopefully make a dynamic squad this season undred percent. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (19:16):
And are you going to mention Sidney Brooks? Have we
mentioned her?
Speaker 4 (19:20):
No?
Speaker 5 (19:20):
Who is it Sidney Brooks? So that's another signing. Yeah,
they've been doing their recruitment. So Sydney Brooks is a
center midfielder.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
Young visit Sydney Brooks, Hughes, I've got yeah, that's it. Yeah, sure,
mar sorry Sydney.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
Yeah, so, yeah, Sydney's she's definitely probably one of the
soller players in the squad. Always nice to have a
tall midfielder, really athletic and can cover up a lot
of ground. I believe a style of play is a
bit like who's a good.
Speaker 6 (19:53):
Comparison, a bit like a Declan Rice I would saying, yeah,
that'll be good. Yeah, someone in the middle who.
Speaker 5 (20:00):
Again, yeah that's it kicks feeble. But someone in the
middle who loves to get forward but can also do
a shift and get back. So a good engine in
the middle for us, which again will be.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
It'll bring us something really good this season.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
Right, Well, thanks for that, Mia, He's done brilliant, absolutely
brilliant here. Because I was worried. I see all these names,
I thought, I don't know any of them. But thankfully
me over here. That give us a little insight there.
We'll just take a quick break there and we'll be

there for a reason to protect you and others from danger.
The lane may be blocked by a broken down vehicle
or road workers, or the lane may be needed for
the emergency services. So if you see a REDX, change
lanes safely Highways England connecting the country.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
This is Maritime Radio.
Speaker 3 (23:24):

Trust website.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Thank you our very own Bevnida for at the end
of them, I'm Sed Robinson and with me our tremendous
panelists are the wonderful stand Godwin and the even more
wonderful Mia. Lock it. Mia. It's great to have you
in the showing person, not just on the end of
via phones. But I'm saying that I missed last that
(24:08):
you and your teammates shirt presentation against Ashford. I promised
your teammate I always get a name wrong, ki Ara
Heira Gira. I don't know why I was singing the
song Kira that I will be with you next season
as our sponsored but I'll thank her very much for
the shirt. There's a much bigger audience with us tonight,
(24:31):
so briefly tell our listeners about your journey at the
Mill Lionesses and what your goal target is for the
season ahead. I know what your target is because Ted
told me, but let's see what you think.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
It is.
Speaker 6 (24:44):
No pressure then, So my journey to Mill all.
Speaker 5 (24:48):
Linus is a bit background information on myself. So started
playing football when I was ten years old. Have three
elder brothers and my dad was a heavy part of
my heavy part of my career of how I've kind.
Speaker 6 (25:03):
Of just got into football and stayed in football really.
Speaker 5 (25:06):
So he used to coach me down at Palace and
all the way through to I would say this when
I was seventeen, and then I started to break into
the first team, made my Championship debut at Crystal Palace in.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
Yeah it was unfortunate Crystal.
Speaker 6 (25:23):
Palace, but yeah, yeah, Crystal Palace.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
We'll let you off that one.
Speaker 6 (25:28):
Your line is and then.
Speaker 5 (25:31):
Went on to make my FA Cup debut in the
quarterfinals against Brighton at the age of seventeen, which was
still to this day.
Speaker 6 (25:37):
It's a real experience and one I loved and when
I was really lucky to have.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
And then I kind of dotted around a few clubs.
I went to Tottenham full time football, played in their
academy for a while, and then I got back into
senior football when I was around about obviously eighteen, turning
into an adult. So I thought I wouldn't senior football.
I want that exposure because I loved it at Palace
and then and then yeah, I found myself kind of
dotted around a few clubs and found myself coming down
(26:06):
to Millwar.
Speaker 6 (26:07):
I knew about Millwall before.
Speaker 5 (26:08):
Obviously I knew the lights of Kira Are because I
used to play with her Palace and same Jordan Butler,
so obviously that those were two girls where there was
a massive influence for me to come over. It's always
nice to have familiar faces in the setup and I
think it makes it that bit easier just to settle in.
So yeah, I'm now on my going into my second
(26:30):
season with Millwall, and the first season it.
Speaker 6 (26:34):
Was absolute blast. I loved it, absolutely loved it.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
So when I sat down with Ted and Jack before
pre season and just went through my contract terms, it
was kind of it was a no brainer for me
to start at the club and really push and hopefully
achieve our all our targets for this season.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
I'll say one thing me, it sounds like the Linus
is a mill Linis. We've got a wonderful team spirit
amongst every time we spoken to any of you girls
that you seem to be so being in part being
part of that team.
Speaker 5 (27:03):
Yeah, yeah, no, it's it's definitely. It's definitely something special
we're creating down here. And I just think from from
an outsider looking in and even for you to say it,
it's definitely something where it's a nice environment to go
into and players don't really leave saying that it's an
environment they wanted to get out of, and if players
(27:23):
are have to departure, will leave the club. It's it's
done with a heavy heart. So I think I think
we're we're really creating something special and hopefully that can
just shine the pitch this season.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
That certainly gives you the opportunity to be a great
team without doubt. Now, staying sitting here desperately to ask
your questions are partial? Stay are you here? You're okay?
Speaker 6 (27:47):
Yeah, I understand? How are you not bad?
Speaker 8 (27:49):
Leaning forward all the way as they say, right, The
question I got for you is along with your day
job as a quantity surveyor yeah, you do so much
work or do so sorry, you do so much more?
Speaker 4 (28:02):
And then played football for all.
Speaker 8 (28:03):
Recently and in the past, I've seen you promoting a
new kid, visiting dementia house and attending soccer camps at
the Aris Academy in sabbok what which?
Speaker 4 (28:16):
What about the new shirt?
Speaker 8 (28:17):
And what drives you to get involved in other activities?
Speaker 5 (28:23):
So but the new kit, what advertised was that you yeah, yeah,
that was me done the kits?
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Shoot, yeah done, A very good job, man, a very
good job. Yeah, thank directing the new shirt.
Speaker 5 (28:36):
Yeah no, no, yeah, no, you know what. So obviously
it was a massive one. And again I was really
privileged to be part of it because I know how
special it was, not only for the staff but also
for the fans because it's one hundred and forty.
Speaker 6 (28:52):
Years off Millwar, so to.
Speaker 5 (28:54):
Go back that many years is it was really special
to be part of the whole setup.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
You out of all the line sues did yeah, no,
you know Julie one volunteered.
Speaker 5 (29:06):
No, so yeah, so Jack and Jack asked me if
I wanted to do.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
It, and it was a no brainers.
Speaker 5 (29:13):
So yeah, I was really happy to be asked and
just represent the girls and represent the Lionesses. So but yeah,
in terms of the shirt, I think it's it's clean.
Obviously we've gone for a middle crest now, so I
don't know what your opinion is on that, but I think.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
One hundred and forty years isn't it? And I do
like it. It should be something slightly different, so why not.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
Yeah, No, I really like it. I think I prefer
it to last year. But I think it's like the
round neck. I think it looks smart and even like
our training kit obviously no no got our new training kit.
Speaker 6 (29:49):
And yeah, I.
Speaker 5 (29:50):
Think it's stepinitie an improvement from last season, and so
it should be one hundred and forty years. It's a massive,
massive stepping stone.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
So about visiting the Mills House, what did you do there?
Speaker 5 (30:01):
Yeah, so we went to I think myself, our club
captain Jordan Butler, and a couple of the other girls.
Shanna also went, one of our players. I visited the menchme,
sorry is it?
Speaker 6 (30:17):
That's it?
Speaker 5 (30:18):
I visited there around about Christmas time and yeah, it
was basically just just going in and just spreading a
bit of Christmas spirit to those who obviously are are
a bit less fortunate than less fortunate than us. And
and the work, the work the staff are.
Speaker 6 (30:39):
Doing down there is amazing.
Speaker 5 (30:40):
So I actually said to them when I left, I
gave him my work email and I've now got my
work involved with just you know, like just social value
stuff where if we can give him like a few
stationary or toys.
Speaker 6 (30:55):
And because the work they're doing down there is everyone
appreciates it. But it's such good work those ladies are doing.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
A place inspect, you know. And that's fantastic that you
went and done there. Did you go along with Lionesses
or or was there some of the wall players with
you or was it just Lionesses?
Speaker 6 (31:14):
We just visited with the Lionesses.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
Yeah, yeah, we went with the Lionesses and I think
a few of our girls have gone and represented us
further to that as well. So I went on the
Christmas one and I think they've been back. So yeah,
it's definitely something what and it's definitely a relationship we
want to carry on. And yeah, as long as they'll
have me down there, I'll go down there and heartbeat
(31:36):
because again, the work they're doing for the kids is amazing.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
Well I could keep talking you for ages, but staying
prodding me, I think once I ask another question.
Speaker 8 (31:45):
Yea, the lion light ain't the word, but anyway, right
me out. I've followed the lines Lionesses ups and downs
over the past few years, and I sense that the
Lionesses manager Ted Jones his assistant Jack Quizon they playing
capable of yielding higher rewards for the team in the
(32:08):
upcoming season.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
What do you think.
Speaker 8 (32:14):
Me A Kenda line is season and the England Ones
repeat the performance brought to them, brought them European glory
last time out.
Speaker 5 (32:26):
I think this season, in terms of the expectations what
Ted and Jack have set us, it's definitely achievable. Like
I said before, I think Ted and Jack they've done
amazing work over the summer in recruitment and we knew
that we needed to bring fresh blood in sorry, so
I think for them to I think we signed around
(32:48):
about nine or ten players now, which it's really promising,
and the girls who were there last season, we kind
of look at it and go, right, it's competition, but
it's healthy competition and it makes everyone work that bit
harder to keep their shirt. So I think in terms
of the new players they've they've brung in, and then
(33:09):
Jack obviously have high expectations for us as a team
and also has individuals. So I think our targets this
season would definitely be promotion achievable. It would definitely be
to at least get to the second proper round of
the FA Cut achievable. So, like I said, every goal
(33:32):
what they've set us is definitely achievable like it was
last season, and anything less will be disappointed not to achieve.
Because the talent we're now having the squad and the
depth in positions is yeah, we have depth and we
have talent, so we could go on. We could go
on to really make something special this season.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
There's also then there's also a pretty decent under eighteen
side that are pushing you as well.
Speaker 5 (33:57):
I believe, Yeah, yeah, the under eighteens are absolute flying
and like I said, we've got talent coming through the ranks.
Even when I went down to Harris Harris Academy, I've been.
Speaker 6 (34:07):
A month ago to so they do coaching sessions on.
Speaker 5 (34:11):
A Friday evening with the I think it's Underswelves all
the way through his under sixteen and it's for the
girls who didn't quite get into the meal Wall setup.
Speaker 6 (34:21):
But there's another chance for them.
Speaker 5 (34:22):
To retrial and go back work on their technical ability
and then go and retrol for Millwall Academy.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
Again.
Speaker 5 (34:30):
There's so much talent coming through and again for us
first team girls to be looking down the talent coming
through and when we play against the lights of the
under eighteens, for me personally, it makes me proud. It
makes me proud that there's young girls and it reminds
me of myself when I was eighteen obviously not fortunate
enough to play for meal War.
Speaker 6 (34:49):
Unfortunately I've had crystal values.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
But I wish you would't mention.
Speaker 8 (34:59):
Just one more quite mea for you right there as
you know, the Euros are going on with the other
lion Is is playing tonight. But do you think that
they can repeat the performance of winning the team which
they did four years ago?
Speaker 6 (35:15):
One hundred percent.
Speaker 5 (35:17):
I believe with favorites so again a bit a bit
like mill all Lionesses. Anything that they don't achieve this
summer they'll be disappointed in and their target will be
to win the win the competition.
Speaker 6 (35:29):
So yeah, I'm backing the girls all the way. I
think they'll do the nation proud.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
I think they expect to at least get to the final.
Didn't they mea having got to the World Cup final?
It was the last moment after winning the Euros. But
there's some good sides. Spain are good, I've seen them.
Germany are good and strong as usual. It's a bit
like talking about the men's World Cup or anything like that,
because the women's game is getting stronger and stronger, but
(35:55):
traditionally the Germans have been stronger as the Scandinavian teams
are normally pretty strong. The Swedens of this world. So
but we've definitely got a chance. It's just a matter
of going out. They were doing it.
Speaker 6 (36:07):
One hundred percent.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
Yeah, it's it's and I keep relating back to Millwall
and the Lionesses, but like what they you can see
the Lionesses, they've they've drove the nation and they've inspired
young girls to want to play football. So what they've
done off the pitch is just as important as what
they'll do on the pitch.
Speaker 6 (36:25):
But I'm sure they'll do us proud.
Speaker 4 (36:26):
Was there a name of a player that inspired you, Mia?
Is there someone that when you was younger you was
looking at and thought I'd love to one day.
Speaker 6 (36:33):
Be like her or yeah, you know what it was? Actually, yeah,
Kira was one of them.
Speaker 5 (36:40):
Kira was one of them, but it was actually Alex Morgan.
Speaker 6 (36:44):
So from from me being a young girl.
Speaker 5 (36:47):
I always looked at Alex Morgan and she was kind
of the face of women's football.
Speaker 6 (36:50):
And obviously she's American, so.
Speaker 4 (36:54):
Actually in America women huge in it.
Speaker 5 (36:57):
Yeah, it's huge, But yeah, Alex Morgan because she was
kind of like, in my eyes, like the female version
of Ronaldo for me. So yeah, I always looked up
to Alex Morgan and a lot of people now compare
me with Elatoon.
Speaker 6 (37:10):
So I'll take that. Yeah, no, I'll take it. I'll
take it. They say.
Speaker 5 (37:15):
The way I act and the way I play is
a bit like Elatoon, so I'll take it as a compliment.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
She scores very good goals at vital times Elatoon, and
she's a wonderful player without doubt.
Speaker 6 (37:26):
Yeah, she's a big game player.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
Right. I think we've got another red Book coming up
and we'll be straight back after that.

Thanks so much, Bethany. I'm Ted Robinson. I'm with the
artist to be here with our outstanding panelists. Were one anyway,
which is mea Lockett, and the other one is of
course my very old mucker Stan Godwin. So you heard
a bit about our Millwall Community Trust and some of
the things they do. They make a fantastic difference to
the communities they serve. And talking of the communities, here
(40:51):
is Millwall Community Trust CEOs Sean daily talking with Amon
Barkley about recent developments towards the Trust, organizing and managing
another extent of our community, a former Players Association for
both men's and women's Real Wall teams.
Speaker 19 (41:07):
Hello, Sean, it's great to catch up with you once again.
Speaker 6 (41:10):
Amen, how are you doing? Thanks very much for em on.
Speaker 19 (41:13):
Yeah, You've always got lots of interesting things to tell us.
Speaker 6 (41:16):
Thank you.
Speaker 19 (41:17):
While the club celebrates its one hundred and fortieth anniversary,
the Trust completes forty years of existence and incredible work
in the community. Amongst other things you will do to
celebrate this landmark. In twenty twenty five, you will also
launch a former players Association. Can you tell us about
how this came about.
Speaker 15 (41:39):
Yeah, It's something that I've always wanted to do when
I've been here. You know, I think it's important that
we celebrate the players that have played for the club,
and also they're part in developing the community Trust. You know,
I think I've spoke of before about you know, the
endorsement to have a player come to one of the
community programs and speak to the young people, speak to
(42:00):
the participants is something I can't buy as an organization.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
So I grew up supporting Millwall.
Speaker 15 (42:08):
I know about the history of the players and what
they've done for this club, and I've worked with the
club for the last possibly eight months saying that, you know,
I would like to celebrate in some way and have
a former Players Association and we induct people into that
association and we thank them really for their time and etc.
Speaker 6 (42:30):
Representing this club.
Speaker 15 (42:31):
And I'm hoping to get this all started before the
kickoff of the season.
Speaker 19 (42:35):
It would be good to see the people that have
served the club so well come forward and be inducted
into the Former Players Association. So what can the trust
and the fan base expect to see through the introduction
of this initiative.
Speaker 15 (42:50):
What we're doing is we're setting up a steering group
and from that steering group, what we're going to do
is we're going to contact some players, and some players
will contact us, and then what we will do is
we'll bring them to the games and they'll be honored
on the pitch before a game or a halftime to
the fans, and then they'll be inducted into our association.
(43:11):
And then what I'm looking for those players to do
is to support the club on match days player nights
for the Trust etc.
Speaker 6 (43:20):
But really to engage back with the club.
Speaker 15 (43:24):
You know, they spent time here, they spent a good time.
We talk about us being a family, so really it's
just engaging back with the club and how they can
support the club in different ways. But most of all,
you know, we've got young fans here who've only ever
heard about some of these players and it'd be great
for them to come back and people to see these players.
Speaker 19 (43:44):
Will do undoubtedly, and we've seen examples of what the
players do, Brian King when he's down at the Trust
with young people, and also Les Briley most recently when
he was with people that are formerly with the Armed Services.
It's great to see those initiatives being taken by former
(44:06):
players and of course the players that exist within the
team at the moment as well.
Speaker 4 (44:10):
Well.
Speaker 19 (44:10):
That's great news, Sean, and I look forward to hearing
some more about when that all begins to come together.
Speaker 15 (44:16):
Thank you so much, Sham and thanks for your support.
Speaker 4 (44:20):
Well. In my opinion, that's that's been a long time
in coming, but particularly when you consider that non League
Southend United ex Players Association the c SUEPA is quite
possibly the largest of its kind in the UK. It
was established on January tenth, twenty eighteen. From a standing start,
it has now grown into what is quite possibly the
(44:41):
largest former players former players group in the world. That's
brilliant me. It's going to include former Millwall line ses too,
So you could be a memoll. You're not a former
one yet, you don't go just yet, but you will
be able to. What do you think about that?
Speaker 5 (44:55):
MEA yeah, definitely, Yeah, something that obviously I would want
to get heavily involved with.
Speaker 6 (45:02):
So yeah, definitely.
Speaker 4 (45:04):
Well, I think it's important. I mean, we US fans
put you up there on pedal stalls and we love
to see you, and he loves to see you wanting
to come back to our football club, if you know
what I mean. So I think it's a wonderful initiative.
It's just amazing that it's like everything, a simple idea
like that seems to have taken so long to come through.
But it'd be great to see some old Lionesses, won't it.
Speaker 5 (45:24):
Yeah, percent, And we'll definitely be driving that for the
Lionesses to be involved.
Speaker 4 (45:30):
So stand, what do you reckon? How important is this initiative?
Speaker 2 (45:34):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (45:34):
I think it's very important. And when you can see it.
Speaker 8 (45:37):
I mean, I think one of the things that's where
it doesn't look too good for us is the fact
that he's taking so long, and to be perfectly honest,
so many response we've had from people within the club
in the past have not exactly been you know, they
talk well they're doing something else.
Speaker 15 (45:54):
But no.
Speaker 8 (45:55):
I mean I think that this is long overdue, the
the you know form of place as what's the name,
and I think the sooner.
Speaker 4 (46:02):
We get it up and running, the better.
Speaker 2 (46:04):
Well.
Speaker 4 (46:04):
I remember a few years ago me and you were
involved and we muted a little something about former players,
but we always it seems strange that it's coming through
the trust. But I think it benefits the trust more
because obviously, as Sean said, it'd be nice to do evening.
It's like we had the other last year. I think
it was with the Brian King was there.
Speaker 15 (46:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (46:22):
I mean we've had we've had them met.
Speaker 8 (46:24):
We've had the seventy two team there, haven't we Yeah,
then we had there was another team we had there
as well. Uh, and then we've had the goalkeepers like
toys end the last season. Because when they do these scenes,
they're always well sold out, are they? I mean you
know well they are.
Speaker 4 (46:39):
And I think I'm sure you'll agree with me when
your day comes, if you like, and you've all stopped
playing football. With all these brilliant footballers that are coming
into our club now, would be wonderful. We had to
get back every together every now and again.
Speaker 5 (46:52):
Yeah, yeah, definitely, yeah, definitely. And like I said, like
even even in our squad now at present, no one
like everyone who does leave us and departs they live
with a heavy heart. So to have that initiative to
bring players back together as it's definitely something we're well
me personally, I wouldn't think twice about coming back.
Speaker 6 (47:13):
So it's really nice and really nice.
Speaker 4 (47:15):
You just come back for the noes up anyway to
move me. I'm I'm sure you would the old is
that right?
Speaker 6 (47:23):
You know what? Yeah, you got me, You've got miss
us there.
Speaker 4 (47:25):
Yeah, I'll keep in eye on you, for Teddy said
to me, keep an eye on me in case he's
going out for a view after this this interview. But
but I'm saying, I mean, it'd be nice to see
some of the old players. But I mean, me and
you are in our sixties, so we'd like to see
you a few of the old boys going down, That's right.
Speaker 8 (47:41):
I mean, you know, you sit there and with some,
I mean with some you can sit and listen to
you know, they just they come out with what happened
India and what happened there, and you could just listen
to them all night.
Speaker 4 (47:51):
When you he just he.
Speaker 8 (47:52):
Just sit there spell bound in some respects as a
as a fan.
Speaker 4 (47:56):
We all didn't we we all we just idolized. I'm
not great for that sort of thing, but I do.
I haven't had the pleasure of speaking to Brian King,
who was my idol at the time when he was
our goalkeeper, and he's a wonderful guy to speak to.
It's just just the privilege I had the privience to
meet Barry Kitchener, and that my dad would have loved
to admit Barry Kitchener, you know everybody's I had at
(48:18):
the time. But it's just fantastic to speak to him.
Speaker 8 (48:21):
And I mean, I mean when I mean one of
my favorite all time players, it's been old George Jack's.
Speaker 4 (48:26):
Yeah, and he was an era of mine.
Speaker 8 (48:28):
From when I was you know, and when when I
bump into him, and I mean, it's brilliant. The one
guy that I wish I could have spoken to but
you can't now because unfortunate he's no longer with us.
But he's the player that, in my opinion, was the
greatest player Meal will have ever aded and never likely
to have and that was Keith Weller. If we could
have got him back, I mean, you know.
Speaker 4 (48:49):
Snap, yeah, he was saying the unfortunate pleasure of playing
against Harry Cripps once. Funny enough, when he was down
at phil Cool Revenue playing against us and bless he
was exactly the same as he was with Millwall, kicking
everybody and whatever it was in his about nearly forty
nearly fifty. I mean, but it was wonderful to speak
(49:09):
to him. But it is just nice to I know
it sounds strange, but they're just human beings at the
end of the day, and it's just wonderful to see
your the people that you've been idolizing watching week in
week out. And it'd be great to get that get
that initiative together and that old dear I've just seen
the Lioness is a two kneel down, I'm afraid, and
(49:30):
I'm saying, good does it. But it'd be great to
get like a group of players from a certain era
all back together in one money and have ever do
and Sean's ideas right, whatever they do when they come back,
there be people like us that will want to go
and see them in it and it hopefully is a
good day for the community trust, which is what Sean was. Yeah,
(49:51):
right there, but yeah, I'm sure there'll be a lot
more things that one from them. But yeah, where as
we going now, we'll be up to now right, Uh,
I want to watch the Lions. Tickets are available on
the mill FC website or in person at the Den
box office. Check the website for complete details. Season tickets
(50:12):
are also reasonably paced. The Den is a short walk
from South Bermansey station, which is a four minute transfer
from London Bridge. Caught your season tickets down, Well, I'm
waiting for it to come. It's not come through it.
They won't come.
Speaker 8 (50:25):
And sort of fixtures of where they're out there, but
they put them on the system, do they.
Speaker 4 (50:29):
Yeah, they'll be out. They're all come middle of you.
So don't panic everyone out there. I'm sure you all
begin at the panic. I'm sure you can also get
a season ticket for the mill Line issues, can't you.
I think Mia are you still there?
Speaker 6 (50:45):
Yeah, yeah, no you can, you can.
Speaker 5 (50:48):
I believe It's all over on Twitter as well and
also on the website. We're now doing season tickets, so
we've also got targets for that.
Speaker 4 (50:54):
Did you hear that England lionses are too kneel down?
Speaker 6 (50:58):
You know what I have heard? Actually?
Speaker 5 (51:00):
So yeah, I've still got believe in us. But against
what I was saying to the French, of all people,
welcome the French.
Speaker 6 (51:08):
Yeah yeah, well.
Speaker 4 (51:10):
Well never mind what but you ain't got your boots on, Mira.
I can run down there quick over to Switzerland and
get on the second half and put it right for us.
Speaker 6 (51:19):
Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 5 (51:20):
After the radio is done, then I'll go I've got
priorities with the radio, and then I'll go.
Speaker 4 (51:26):
Forget forget that going down the pub, get out there
and help me. Line is out there. Finally we return
on Saturday. Back feet there. Finally we return on Saturday,
the second of August with our monthly meal Wall News
and Views show ahead of our season opener, away to
(51:47):
Norwich City. Look you going to that monesday?
Speaker 15 (51:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (51:50):
Oh yeah, yeah, await to Norwich. So I actually get
back off Melos on the Friday before that Saturday, so
I should be going straight from the airport, I think
down to Norwich. But what do you reckon that note
stand open game? Nor is there going to be true?
Speaker 8 (52:05):
Well, yeah, I mean I think it will be an
open game because to be to be fair to notis
they're never a scene that there's a scene that they
always play football in the right way. Then you don't.
They're not these scenes that's only come along and step
ten behind the board and all that. I mean, they
don't what they do. So I think it'd be an open.
Speaker 4 (52:21):
Game manager and all down there. Yeah, all that, Yeah,
that would be interesting. There's a little thing just to
finish on predictions. Let's have a little prediction. Stand, what
do you reckon? Who's your free to go up? Out
the championship.
Speaker 2 (52:33):
Flowing? Me?
Speaker 4 (52:35):
Uh, well, I don't.
Speaker 8 (52:36):
I don't subscribe to I don't necessarily subscribe to the
view that the free that come down will automatically go back.
Speaker 4 (52:43):
And I think one or two of them might be
in trouble.
Speaker 8 (52:45):
Yeah, I know, it's just a bit difficult to say
at this daye because it's you know you you, I mean,
you could turn around and say.
Speaker 4 (52:54):
That let's have another question. Then, what's are on our chances?
Speaker 8 (53:02):
Well, I think I think they're quite good, right, I
think we need we must avoid this this injury disaster
that we had last season and I'm not in this
and to be fair that we were victims of it.
Speaker 4 (53:16):
It was nothing that the cup. But we've got to
avoid all that.
Speaker 8 (53:20):
Uh, but we've got to be you know, we have
to play consistently well you know, and it's no good
you know, and you know, I mean, you know my
what you know what my view is in the way
that we play, right, Uh.
Speaker 4 (53:34):
I think it's just a hope again to start with
that is the top and see where we go Now,
I think what do you reckon? Mia?
Speaker 6 (53:45):
I think Rixam have.
Speaker 5 (53:47):
A really good set up and obviously.
Speaker 6 (53:49):
The financially they have a lot of support as well.
Speaker 4 (53:52):
They're Welsh, so don't worry about him.
Speaker 6 (53:56):
Well wreck and you're going on from.
Speaker 4 (53:59):
That you're just struck by the hollywood ness of it,
and that's it.
Speaker 6 (54:02):
That's it?
Speaker 5 (54:03):
Yeah, is that it obviously me will we always we
always do so well, get to the playoffs and then
kind of don't go any furthers, Like it'd been nice
to actually to have a good running this year.
Speaker 4 (54:16):
What about the line this is I'm got sorry, you
got one more, one more.
Speaker 6 (54:21):
And it's switch.
Speaker 4 (54:23):
Yeah, I think it's switch.
Speaker 6 (54:24):
It's switch. Yeah, I think their favorites anyways, but yeah.
Speaker 4 (54:28):
I think the beat. But what about the line this
is promotion champions.
Speaker 5 (54:33):
Yeah, yeah, that's one of our Yeah, that's one of
our targets obviously, to to get promotion. And we definitely
got the talent this season, and we had it last
season but things didn't really go our way full them
with really strong side they got promoted.
Speaker 6 (54:47):
So yeah, this year hopefully is our year.
Speaker 5 (54:50):
And in terms of cups, yeah, also the League Cup
we got to the final.
Speaker 6 (54:55):
Last year out of things out of our country.
Speaker 5 (55:00):
The final didn't go ahead because the other team played
played a player who wasn't eligible to play, so that
was quite unfortunate.
Speaker 6 (55:09):
But hopefully the league can't.
Speaker 5 (55:10):
We can have a good run and get a bit
of silver wed this season too.
Speaker 4 (55:14):
Let's hope. So you're right. Thanks to Ourpanis, you've been
a wonderful guest. Mia, Thank you very much. We've really
appreciated it and enjoyed your company and we do wish
you all the best. Hopefully Miles is going to sponsor
you again this year. Our young Miles. I don't know
whether he is, but I'll put him in it now
so hopefully you will.
Speaker 6 (55:34):
Thank you. I really appreciate it. Thank you for having me.
Speaker 4 (55:36):
It's been our pleasure. Honestly, it's been our pleasure. And
thank you Stan a Ute. And hopefully next time you'll
have a proper host and not me, and we won't
have Dunk and they're producer. It'll be a better one.
But there you go. We'll see what happens. But thank
you all for listening, and we'll see you again on
the second of August.
