(00:19):
Bethany Warren here Welcome back to seasontwenty three to twenty four of our Millwall
Fans show with new panelists but thesame focus. Just everything Millwall enjoy.
Welcome to the twenty three twenty fourthseries of mill No One Likes a Stalkins
Millll Fair Show. I'm your hostSamon Barclay and with me, I have

(00:42):
the No One Likes a Stalking teamof Debbie, Julian's, Miles Thornton and
Jeff Burnett. Not everybody likes them, but they don't care. Who was
sad news this week when we heardthat Brian snow Odan had passed and Jeff
Burnage is going to share some wordswith us. Well, Brian's part of

(01:07):
that magical team that people old enoughcan remember that won fifty nine home league
games in a row, the teamthat was put together by Billy Gray,
and two of the important members ofthat team were Brian Stowden and Debbie's dad
then Julian's. Brian was captain ofthat team. He had three seasons with

(01:30):
US sixty four to sixty seven, and unbelievably, two of the three seasons
were promotions from what would now beLead Too and then after what would now
be League One, so consecutive promotions, so that was an amazing achievement.
Brian was the skipper. It wasa great side and I know that one

(01:52):
or two players I've spoken to abouthim have always said what a great leader
he was. Debbie has been friendswith Brian's daughter and she can tell us
a little bit more. Thank you. Jeff Lee was my childhood friend when
our dads played together at mill Hall, then in America when our dads were

(02:15):
with Detroit Cougars, and as teenagersin Kent, Lies asked me to say
a few words on her behalf.I'd like to thank you all for your
kind words about my dad. BrianSnowden, a genuine legend, captain and
player, rock solid super line,a great of his time, a tower

(02:39):
of strength. Just a selection ofsome of the amazing comments left on Facebook
and the tribute from mill Hall FootballClub. I can't tell you how much
these words mean to me and mytwo brothers, Gary and Dominic. We
were over whelmed and moved to tears, but these were tears of love and

(03:02):
pride for a man who had broughtso much joy and happiness to so many
fans, who remembered watching him playall those years ago. We have chosen
the Millwall colors that he played forin Millwall for the funeral. His coffin

(03:23):
is blue and the flowers are white. Dad died peacefully after a short illness.
He was all that the fans havedescribed and more, a fantastic dad,
grandpa to four girls and the latestedition a boy at last. I

(03:45):
wonder if he'll follow in his greatgrandpa's boots. He will be loved always
and remembered forever. Thank you somuch for your support at this saddest time
for our family, Lee Well. Our sincere condolences go out to Brian's family,

(04:10):
the extended family, and our heartsand thoughts are with you. Brian
Snowdon, You are a lion,You were a lion, and you always
will be. Brian Snowden, Restin peace. Moving on from there,

(04:31):
we had the John Berylson Memorial gamelast Saturday when mill played Bristol City.
It was a tough game, butit was a wonderful remembrance of John Berylson.
All that took place and all thathappened were exceedingly well done and so

(04:59):
many p pol were affected fire. The proceedings that took place. But then
there was a game ninety minutes ofplaying against Bristol City. How did you
see it, Jeff Well? Ithink the offense prior to the game did

(05:25):
have an effect. There wasn't thefocus on the game entirely because that wonderful
tribute that was paid to John. The club and the fans handled that situation
very well. The game itself, the stats don't look good. I think
we had one shot on target. We weren't at our best. People are

(05:49):
concerned about the home form. Theaway fall has been really good, but
it would have been one of thosegames that if it had gone to nil
nil, we probably would have gonehome four points out of two games.
Maybe the manager's mind wouldn't have beenconcentrated so much, but losing the first

(06:10):
home game, losing that cup gamefour nils to reading it will have given
in pause for thought. It wasn'ta good performance. It's hard to pick
someone that performed up to their normalcapabilities. A little bit of excitement when
the Romaine and Idomo came on towardsthe end, they both tried for their

(06:34):
lives. They injected a bit ofa spark, but it looked like petering
out to a nil nil draw untilthat sad, very late goal where from
a throw on so many people triedto get their head on that board,
three attackers and three defenders. Itglanced off ahead right to the boot of

(06:56):
the Bristol City center half and heput it away. I think that was
only one of only two shots theyhad on target. So it's not a
game that will go long, willlive long in the memory. No Miles,
you will report him for as MaritimeRadio. What did you make of
it? Yeah, well, firstly, it was a great send off to

(07:20):
our late German mister Belson, andunfortunately the game didn't live up to the
bill in that we thought it would. It wasn't a great game. We
had ten shots and goal and onlytwo of them were on target. I
think it's a bit of a concernthat eight of our shots went off target,
and I think that's something that Ihope isn't I hope is improved of

(07:41):
the Norwich game. Yeah, itjust they just didn't. They just didn't
get into the game really. Buthopefully for the Norwich game they'll be back.
And as Jeff said, our awayfrom him in this league has been
good in our home from hasn't,so hopefully the away from will continue.
Debbie, I got any though,Yeah, I mean really just repeating what

(08:03):
both Miles and Jeffers said there.I mean, it was a poor performance
and it's such a shame in ninetyfive minutes to lose that goal. It
would have been a tad easier ifit was Neil now, but never easy.
But so I think there's a lotto learn from that game and make
the manager look and really go backand have a look hard. Good look.

(08:31):
Thanks for that, guys. Yes, it's a difficult one to take
in many different ways, but let'sbe hopeful. Let's hope that that's put
put behind them and things improve.I'm sure they will. Anyway, We'll
take a break there and hear aboutour sponsor, g and M Motors by

and Debbie Julians, Miles Taunton andJeff Burnage. We're most grateful to our
sponsor G and M Motors of Gravesendand Mepham. Thank you. Our first
guest is well known and many Millwallfans. He was born in Greenwich but

(11:11):
grew up in Samsmead and started hisfootball career with the Lions. Back in
two thousand and three. He wasplaying for EFL League Two club Carauly Town
as central defender when we spoke last, but it's now with a National League
Dalking Wanderers. He began his careerat Millwall and made three hundred and twenty

(11:33):
two appearances across four spells with aclub, but kept the bench warm on
another sixty three occasions and scored ninegoals. He also played league football for
Brentford, Bristol, Rovers, WeCan Wanderers, later An Orient and even
Crystal Palace. Most recently, heco presented Millwall Versus Fortuna sit out with

(11:56):
Carl Bates, and I've got tosay Carl said, what lovely bloke.
Yes, well there you go,and I think we know exactly who it
is. I'll say no more andwelcome the one only Tony Craig. Hello,
Tony, Hello, good evening.Everyone know you are well? Hello
Tony. Jeff Bernard's here, Hello, Jeff. How are you mate?

(12:20):
You're good, very good, Thankyou very good? Good good, Elimate,
you're right, Demi, Hi,Debbie, how are you? Yeah,
very well, good to speak toyou. Good, good, good,
look forward to it. Well,it's always worth looking forward to,
that's for sure. An Yeah,Tony, great to have you on the

(12:41):
show once again. Before I letyou off to the panel, I mentioned
you made three hundred and twenty appearancesfor the Lions. You crashed through the
seven hundred appearances last November. Butwhere are you now? Many of you
planned? Now? Oh what amI up to? Now? I'm up
to seven hundred and twenty something. Now it's one then obviously I'm I'm very

(13:05):
proud of that record to get thatsort of number of games. Obviously,
it's been a long career, onewhich I've thoroughly enjoyed, and it's it's
one of them as long as mybody holds up and I'm doing myself justice
on the playing field, and Iwill continue as long as possible. You
know, I'm thirty eight years youngnow and that's so still putting out their
week in week out, which I'mvery proud of to say that I'm still
involved in the game, which Ilove. It is very intastic and we

(13:28):
appreciate every moment when I was threehundred and twenty games and the one in
particular ask getting back to the championshipwhen you catch in the side anyway,
so only I'll pass you over toDebbie, Debbi, that sounds great,
keep on going, turning, thankyou. I listened to your thoughts.

(13:50):
You express express sorry with graduate they'repassing about Chairman John Person. Most players
have personal memories this great man. What sticks out in your minds most?
John? I think first and foremostthe word is he was a great man.
You know, he was a manwho had time for absolutely anybody and

(14:11):
anybody. It didn't matter you asthe captain and the football club, or
he didn't matter used the dinner ladyat the training ground. He knew your
name, he knew your family. He just cared about you. You know,
he just won them. It justseemed that he always had a smile
on his face. I've never learnedso much about American history in my life
acually know. It's one then, which he loved talking about. And I'd

(14:33):
be honest with you, I'm asort of a little bit of a history
buff and there was one which Isort of thoroughly enjoyed talking about him himself.
But he was one of them.It didn't matter who he was or
who you are. He's just alwaysthere and he always made time for absolutely
anybody, and it's one of them. Obviously it hurt me like everyone else
connected with the football club because obviouslyI spent a lot of time with him.

(14:54):
We used to have a monthly phonecall, and I certainly won't miss
them phone calls going forward. Yes, Lovely, Lovely Ella, Tony Miles
here Ello Males might Yeah, AndI was impressed. If you're co commentating
with Cole Bates, it's broadcasting somethingthat appeals to you when you hang up
your boots or have you got anyother roles that appeal more to you?

(15:18):
It's one of them. I'm verylucky that Max and Cole sort of asked
me to come on. You know, Max is sort of busy behind the
scenes, and I can make thegame because obviously I'm still playing. I
don't mind doing it, you know. It's one of me said to me,
do you want to give it atry? And give it a go?
And yeah, I just felt comfortabledoing it, you know. Obviously
it's easy to do it at meall because obviously I know the players names

(15:41):
and personally and positions they play andeverything night. So again, if if
I'm called back and when when thatmay be, I don't know, I'd
love to do it again. Andgoing forward, maybe something I could look
into, you know. I've certainlygot the face on radio as they say,
So it's one of them, oneof them that long, and I

(16:02):
don't mind giving it a go,you know. And thankfully I think a
few times which have been kindly invitedto do are thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed it.
If I enjoy something, why notdo it again? Tony's Jeff here it's
my turn to ask a question. But before I do that, I'm wondering
how John Belson ever understood your estuaryLondon accent when he first started speaking to

(16:25):
you, because you have got agood and presumably some of the history lessons
might have lost a little bit inthe translation. But I want to ask
you about your long career at Millwallthree h twenty games over four different spells.
I can't believe it was for differentspells in that time. He paid
a lot of games at the centerback. Of all the center back's partners

(16:48):
you had, who would you saywas the best and who you most enjoyed
playing with? Oh, that's agreat question. That is Jeff. You
put me on the spot there aswell, you know, because I've got
mate in a position as well.So a few of them. Yeah,
No, obviously the first and almostobviously Paul Robinson. You know, what
a leader, what a man,what a mate, what a dad,

(17:11):
what a family man? You know, he was literally a man who left
everything on the pitch. He was. He led by example, and it
was it was one name we knowwhen sometimes like things ain't going right for
you. He was the man youlook up to. Do you know what
I mean. He's one who gaveyou that glare and sort of got the
best out of you, do youknow what I mean? And he obviously
I think we had a good understandingwith each other when we did which wasn't

(17:33):
a lot, but he was.He was a partner which I thoroughly,
fooughly enjoyed plan with. You know, he's wonning a man like my own
heart. Put our body on theline week in week out. We both
knew our strengths and we both knewour weaknesses and thankfully how our strength rectified
this football club. You know. The other one, I've got to say,
Darren, would you know for mewhat a man I learned a lot

(17:57):
of him over the years. Hewas. He was a pro who I
looked up to him, you knowwhen you're sort of coming through youth team
and everything like, and he wasthe one everything He done things first.
When I mean done things first, like the protein shapes, the stretching,
the stretching after training, the bandsbefore that. I've never seen anything like

(18:18):
this, you know. It's justpure dedication to the game. He's diet.
We'll have nights out, He'll havea banana and peanuts in his pockets.
You know, everyone else is goingout having a beer and all that.
But he was such the pro, anyone who put himself in the best
shape. He had the protein snackswith him, you know. So obviously,
yeah, he enjoyed himself. Heknew that to be in pristine conditioned

(18:41):
that he needed to look after hisbody as well. And again, what
a pro. He read the gameso well. Everything seemed effortless from him
to say with student never cut aswell. He was the obviously, he
was a leader when I first comefrom he was the voice, the vocal
point of the whole team, andhe was someone who you wanted to please
when you're coming through the youth teambecause you knew if you had him on

(19:03):
side, you were close to thefirst team. You know, that was
the sort of presence he had abouthim and every nine He's always someone who
at that time coming through, Iknew that my voice and I to use
that getting older, and he wassomeone who I learned a lot of as
well. Trify over to you,Debbie, I just wanted to ask you,

(19:25):
can you tell me about your memoriesof when you first joined Millville at
the age of sixteen? Oh wow, God, might must gone through his
story a good number of times now. It was one of him I joined
when I was fifteen. I gotreleased by Wimbledon because that shows that shows
my age. It's winmdan football clubback then. It was one of them.

(19:47):
My trials at a couple of clubswhich unfortunately didn't happen. But lucky
me, Dad Me Dad knew abloke called Dave Memmit, you know,
part of the youth team there obviously, and just got me troll. You
know. Sometimes it's not what youknow, is who you know. And
it was sort of the last chancesaloon for me, if I'm being honest,
I knew that and sometimes you turnup your face fits and that.

(20:11):
And then I just turned up andwe had Alan McCleary, Kevin O'Callahan,
Andy Massey, who are part ofthe youth set out there. Obviously they
memt and they needed left back atthe time, so obviously at the time
I was a left back. Soit just it just seems to work,
you know. And again I've sortof the story goes I to miss my

(20:32):
English GCSC to go on a trialin France, and that's because I see
Andy Massey today and I was speakingto him about it today, so even
now, like it's just a storywhich I love talking about. So I've
just missed, yeah, to missme English GCSC at the time, go
on a trip to France to guardon this trial to impress really to see
if I was worth a ryts. And thankfully after that sort of that trial

(20:55):
within France, it just seems thatI never looked back from there, you
know. It just seems I wentthere as a little boy and I sort
of come back as sort of aman really, you know, because obviously
I've just got that bit of confidencein myself and that gut and I knew
the desire to give it this footballclub and sometimes again as I said earlier,
the strengths just do the justice forthe club. Yeah, I think

(21:19):
you do miss out the fact thatyour skill as well as as just being
in the right place at the righttime and had determination. Oh man,
yeah, now that's it, youknow, of cause you need determination,
obviously need a bit of skill aswell, but sometimes you need a bit
of luck as well, you know, because obviously again when your opportunity comes

(21:40):
up, sometimes it was the injurieswas lucky come in my position, you
know, So obviously that got mesort of chucked into the first team quicker
than maybe what should have happened. But then again, in football you only
get one opportunity, and I'm soglad that I took it, and,
like I said, to get threehundred and twenty two appear it is Football

(22:00):
Club is something I look back withgreat fondness. Fantastic, fantastic, thank
you turning thank you. Yeah,Tony, I just wanted to ask you
my main highlight as a mill fanis being at Wembley in twenty seventeen.
I just wanted to ask you howdid that feel when you was there obviously
playing and lifting that trophy. Ohagain, that's just a dream come true

(22:22):
for me. You know, asthe saying goes, I actually dreamt that
as a boy doing it, SoI've actually done it, you know,
and it's one of them going upthem steps is something which yeah, wow,
even now, you know I boremy boy about it. Now do
you know my boys literally just startedhis journey playing football now, six year
old kid, if he has twominutes, I'll bore him every time.

(22:44):
Whenever Wembley comes on, always sayyeah, I've all tacked him steps.
But again it's a game which well, we all knew what the pressure was
because obviously, like I said,we come on stut the year before and
that, and there's some pressure onus as a team and that, and
sometimes the script's already written. AndI honestly do believe that script and that
year was written from the beginning becausethere was too many things which went in

(23:07):
our favor when things wasn't going rightfor us. You know, she had
a bit of a blick that season. You know, we weren't really consistent.
You know, we'd win a few, lose one and everything like.
And it seems that when the teamsbelow I was got close, they just
didn't take them opportunities and then sometimesyou got to take them and go,
well, yeah, let's go.Like the script is written, and thankfully

(23:27):
it was. And it's a daywhich me, my family and obviously the
fans, the club will cherish forever. Royal the Rovers staff, that Tony
Royal Rovers. Sorry, Tony ofthe rights. I want to go back
to that answer you go to Debbieabout how it came to join the club.

(23:49):
I just had something to what yourrecollection was. It was the end
of the season, and I thinkthat that child game. I think we
played Tottenham, so I'm not mistaken. And after that, we were going
on this tournament in France in Paris, just east of Paris, and you
were invited to come along on thatand by the time you came back the

(24:11):
decision was made. I was onthat trip, we'd probably remember, and
I was heavily involved in the youthdevelopment at that point. I think i'd
stop being youth I think I'd stoppedbeing Academy director, but I was still
heavily involved. And you made agreat impression. And you said about taking
opportunities, Sony, I've never seenyou ever failed to grab an opportunity if

(24:34):
one came along, So that's Ithink that's the mark of you. But
to tell us a little bit more, apart from the Wembley appearance that got
us into the championship, yep, what do you recall about that following season
when we were in the championship. But yeah, obviously, like I said,

(24:56):
we had all the positives from theseason before it was one of them.
It was a bit of a disappointmentfor me, you know, the
following season, but I think onlyplayed six or seven games, Jeff,
I think that following season till January. You know, it was just unfortunately
obviously new Aris went in a differentdirection. You know, that's football,
you know. Obviously, like Isaid, he makes his decision. He

(25:18):
was the manager at the time, and obviously he went with someone else,
which sometimes you just got to takeon the chin. But to get them
seven championship games underbelt was always alwaysa pleasure, you know. And it
was always a pleasure to get theclub back into the championship, you know
that that was my aim when theclub signed me back, was to get
mill Football Club back in the Championship. And I'm just so grateful and so

(25:38):
pleased that I was glad and thatI could well, not only me,
but the whole team could do that, you know, because we always knew
that, let's be honest with millFolk Clubs a championship club, you know,
and to be in at League oneit wasn't good enough. At the
time. You mentioned that you playedover seven hundred games and you must love
playing, Tony, you must loveit. And you're now at Dorking Wanderers,

(26:02):
an up and coming club who arenow I think making their debut season
in the National League, and Ithink Callum Best is involved. Is that
right? He's with the Ladies. To be honest with you, Jeff,
you know it isn't any he's withthe Ladies team. When you say he
was with the Ladies took it's aboutto say Ladies Ladies team. He was

(26:26):
with the Ladies football team. He'sa part of that one. But no,
it's one of them. I wasthere on loan from February last year,
National League last season, you know, so I went there and I
thoroughly enjoyed it. I think,I think if people know me, I
think, if you're honest with me, I'm honest back with you. And
if people promise me something that theykeep their promises, I'm in. I'm

(26:49):
in the hole like the whole way, because let's be honest, in this
game, you meet a lot ofbluffers. You know, a lot of
people promise you this, promise youthat, and don't come to tuition.
And so for me that the managerand the people work behind the scenes were
fantastic with me and I finally enjoyme time there. And Jeff, I
think you know me. I thinkas long as I'm playing, I've got
to smile on my face and I'mdoing myself justice. I want to stay

(27:11):
stay in the game as long asI possibly can. You know, I
know that game. I know thattimes closer than what it was, of
course I do. You know,it's one of them. I'm a thirty
eight year old man now. Butagain, the body feels good, the
mind feels good, and I stillfeel sharp. And again like I'm still
doing myself justice on a Saturday anda Tuesday. So as long as that

(27:33):
continues, well why not can Inot reach forty? You know, that's
my aim. I want to playit on forty at least and that and
then I can sort of sit back, look look back on my career and
absolutely no regrets because I'll be honestwith you. Of course I've had bad
games, yes, but it's oneof them throughout my career decisions I've had
to make. I ain't got noregrets. And that's the way to live

(27:53):
your life, I think. Personally. Yeah, well, I said,
that's great to speak with your townbeing a plas a problem. Join us
again before we go. A predictionfor the weekend. We're at b the
Canaries, where we haven't won agame of football since nineteen sixty eight.
What do you reckon we might dothis weekend? So I did look at

(28:18):
that us all that one. Youknow, like you said that Almo's got
to be broken sometimes, so whywhy could it not be this weekend?
It's obviously like you said, wehad a great away win first game of
season. Gets I know Millis Reverendstarted the best, but they're going to
be a good side this season andthat's so why can't we go up there
and maybe win too? Nil?That'll be lovely. We take that all
day long. So Tony, welook forward to your returning again. Keep

(28:41):
your great work at Dalkin and there'sa legend doing extracurricular Millwall work as well.
All the best of you your familytoo. It's great to have you
on. Cheers problem. Thank youvery much, take it so, thank
you, thank you, good night, well lovely Tony Craig. What can

(29:03):
we say? What a lovely manwithout a doubt an Yeah, we'll take
a break there and listen to PaulOwens and Fisher FC before we hear from
Ellis Barr. Hi. I'm Paulor mill and Fisher of C supporter.

(29:26):
There's always been strong links between ourclubs and such FISHERFC. We like every
minds Millwall season to get holders andsupports club members that entry to watch Fisher.
It's just a fiver if you showyour car at the gate, I'm
your host. Damon barklay with me. I have the no one likes us
talking a team of Debbie Julian's,Miles Thornton and Jeff Burnage Well discount breaks

(29:56):
with the Fish at Salter Road. When mill We're not playing or are too
far away. That can't be abad deal. Get yourself down there and
see what you can hear and see. Hello, ellis here and I'm glad
to be back talking about Millwall.I know many have watched my videos,
so you will all know that Idon't wear experience as much anymore. I'm

(30:21):
really looking forward to start in secondaryschool in September. Thanks for your support
along the way. It is nowtime to hear what all the Millwall teams
are up to and what is nextfor Garrion, Rolletts Lyons. Come on
there, will yeah, come onMillwall. Ellis, what a style you

(30:44):
are. I'll see you on thevideos. You're walkings brilliant. You're really
coming on a bomb and keep usinformed of what's going on? Magic stuff,
magic stuff. Well, I'll caughtup with Paul loadin Millwall Romans prior
general manager. Let's hear what Paulhas got to say. Hi Allee's pool

(31:06):
owning from the mill Romans. Withjust a little update on how our preseason's
caring. Obviously we're training every Wednesdayat Saint Paul's. We've attracted a good
few players at a keen searts tostart, so if anyone who's interested,
half us seven till nine o'clock atSaint Paul's Sports Ground every Wednesday evening.
Our Pride team had our first preseasonfriendly against Charlton. Charlwood looking to add

(31:33):
another team to the to the leaguethis year, so they've sort of looking
to split it into effectively the firstand second team. They played the second
team first going back, I wasnever going to be easy and they did
to come four neil in the endto charlt One. But obviously preseason friendly
so it doesn't really count too much. We've got our fixtures out and both
teams are in action on the thirdof September in the in the yearly will

(32:01):
and yeah from our side, there'sa there's a couple of friendis coming up
another one on Sunday at home. It's a twenty past one kickoff prior to
playing the newly formed at London Freedomon Sunday. With Romans having a game
the week after first preseason friendly againstStone, will have se going against Norwich

(32:25):
weekends a bit disappointing obviously starts withthe season. But I'm going to say
one Neil to Millwolf, well, that's very good of you, Paul.
We've had a two and a oneand despite your lips getting stuck together there
you we're very informative. We enjoyit that. Let's move on to mill

(32:45):
Lionesses. They had their final friendlygame at money Field with against money Field
FC Women at the weekend and fromMaritime Radio, Jeff Burnished filed the following
report. This is Jeff Bernade reportingon the new season for Millwall Lionesses.

(33:07):
Well, the Lioness has concluded theirtough preseason schedule with a match against National
League opposition. They went down eightone in the end to money Fields from
the National League Southwest, conceding fivegoals in the last twelve minutes or so.
When they had made several experimental changeslast season, the Lionesses fell short

(33:30):
of their aim to get promotion tothe National League as soon as possible,
and the need for this is shownby the probable loss of up to ten
players from last season squad. Somehave joined National League clubs and others have
joined good clubs in the regional leaguewhere it is now common for players to
have a financial incentive. The departureof manager Jack Wheeler and the arrival of

(33:52):
celebrated and experienced FA Pro license coachKeith Bonus has caused a rebuilding of the
squad for this coming season. Keithwas Millwall manager when he led them to
the National League back in two tenand went on to manage Estonia for six
years. Eleven players have resigned forthis season, along with several players from

(34:17):
Welling Women who narrowly miss promotion toMillwall Division last season when led by Keith
Bonus. Keith has also captured forwardto Mile Lorraine from Long Lane and she
has been scoring goals in pre season, including Millwall's goal on Sunday against money

(34:37):
Fields. Recruitment is continuing a pace, particularly for a senior goalkeeper to work
with Millwall's excellent crop of young keepers, but the London and Southeast Regional League
season gets under way on Sunday witha trip to Sutton United, so time
is short. Millwall's men had athree nil win at and a green lane

(35:00):
in a preseason friendly at Sutton United, and a repeat of that result would
be a valuable start. Well,it certainly would. It certainly would,
Debbie. Would you make of thesepreseason friendlies? I mean you must have
heard your father speak about them,I would imagine over time. Yeah,

(35:21):
well yes I did. And whatdo I think of them? I don't
think they're treated the same as whatthey used to be. I spoke to
Tommy Wilson today and we had agood chat because obviously he used to call
my dad his teacher, because mydad used to say, let's go to
night school and he'd take him offto watch games at Arsenal and things like

(35:45):
that, just sort of watch theirtactics, watch what they do, try
and put that into your game.So he whistled as my dad as his
teacher. But he said, youknow, Billy Gray and my dad and
the team, there were no friendslist, there was no training. Everything
was given with passion, dedication andtactics, and it's you have to he

(36:08):
said, otherwise you become lazy. You said. Your mind has to be
the whole time on that tactical positivedrive that you're playing a game and for
the right reasons to win. Andit's you know, even with the free
kicks, he said, you hadto play to win. So his words

(36:32):
are there are no friendly games. It's about applying your best game. You
said, my dad was a technicalwith both he and Billy was so technical
that both he they would say, just get lazy, you forget. You
have to remind yourself continuously that you'reon the game. It's all about discipline

(36:54):
and it becomes a habit. Andso therefore never a friendly You can't just
switch off your mind. You haveto be committed and you have to play
to your capacity. So it shouldnever be different. And really with this,
is this a good indicator? Andnowadays let's hope not let's search forward,

(37:17):
but let's make treat everything. Andfor the and for all the fans
coming along to watch, they deserveit. Well, thanks for it,
Debby. That was a mostly informativeof a view and I think please look
at a great appreciation from that.Miles. You watch the mill lionesses,

(37:38):
what are your thoughts ahead of theseason. Do they have a promotion potential
then one, I think they area really good team that have some really
good players, some really good youngsters, and yeah, definitely I think they're
child harden off. They could easierpromade. Well, let's be hopeful on
that account. Yeah, what's upnext for our line is? And what

(38:01):
can you tell us? I'd justlike to say that those reports that you
hear from me on this podcast, they are the same ones that I do
on Maritime Radio on a Monday morning, which is sick ninety six point five,
and I was at the training onTuesday night which Milor Football Club came

(38:22):
up trumps because our training night atSaint Paul's clash with a Fisher game and
when we couldn't find the opportunity totrain, Mirll said come and train at
the Den. So the mill lionssfirst team squad trained on the beautiful turf
at the Den in preparation for thisweek's game. On the way home from

(38:43):
that, I had Maritime Radio oneand I could still hear it at Chelsea
Bridge. Amazing ninety six point fiveworth a listen. As for this weekend,
Mars is very optimistic but it isa new tea and I think I
personally think they will time. Theywill find that they need time to find

(39:07):
their feet. And because it's alwaysplayers on a holiday and injured and coming
back, and I don't think thatsquad is really finalized yet. Sutton United
at GANDHA Green Lane, they're goingto put the kick off back. I
think it's shown as two o'clock. It's likely to be three thirty for the

(39:30):
obvious reason that it clashes with anotherimportant game. What's that important game then,
Norwich versus Maull Live Sky TV andpreceded of course by the Women's World
Cup final. But I'll be doinganother report on Monday on the Sutton game
and let's keep our fingers crossed thatthe players find their feet after that beautiful

(39:53):
training session at the Den on Tuesday. Super staff Jeff all sounds good and
me. But next up for Garyrouts Lines is a trip to Carro Road
to face the Canaries and possibly aformer goalkeeper George Long, who joined them

(40:13):
yesterday. Anyway, Norwich have hada reasonable starts this season, which sees
them drawing four four at Southampton lasttime out in the league and defeating whole
City two one in their opening leaguegame at home by two goals to one.
On Wednesday night, they faced QPRand came out one meal winners with

(40:38):
a ninety nine minute added time goal. Well, I think you could knocked
down the QPR fans. They wereshouting for their manager out out, just
like they do for other managers. Not only that, they were taying he's

(40:58):
got to pack up playing game offive at the back it's no good.
Well, it obviously didn't work onWednesday night, but perseverance and playing different
games and how you play games worksdifferently in different places. The Lionesses,

(41:19):
I mean the England Lionesses, theyplay with free at the back, don't
they? Anyway? After that, something to add a bit of I suppose
spices is that I've heard that coldBates is going to get there early,
so that might mean he crashes intothe ground before everybody else. And we

(41:43):
all remember what happened many moons ago. Can we score goals for a long
overdue win at Norwich? As Imentioned to Tony Craig, it was nineteen
sixty eight when we were there lastWell, Debbie, what'd you reckon?

(42:04):
Let's hope so let's hope. Sothey need to pull it out of the
bag. They really need to afterthe last time. So let's hope they
get in there. And you know, if long will pass along, as
I would say, it'll be onthe bench if nothing else, so it's
going to be different. But Ilet's hope. So I'm going to say

(42:28):
one nail, two super miles.Yeah, as Debbie said, they need
to put it out the bag afterthe defeat against Bristol City. But obviously
we haven't won there since nineteen sixtyeight. But I'm optimistic as I am
with the lines, and I dothink we're going to do it. I
think, I think, I thinktwo one, well, that'd be good.

(42:54):
We've only scored one goal so far. We could double our odds at
Norwige. That would be wonderful.Jeff, what a hard game to forecast.
Our home record is beginning to causeconcern. We've had those two games
so far this season, the CowbellCup game and the league game, and

(43:15):
we haven't played well. But ourway form has been good. If you
remember at the end of last seasonwe won at Blackpool. We've just recently
won at Middlesbrough, which not manypeople forecasts. We would, So I
think there's reason to be optimists optimisticabout going to Norwiche And that long record
back to nineteen sixty eight, Comeon, that's that's got to be broken

(43:37):
sometime. And I've just got afeeling we might do it this time.
So I'm going to go clean sheetknowledge nil nil war two excellent, absolutely
excellent. Wow. So all we'reall pretty positive, And why wouldn't we

(43:58):
be. We've got a bunch ofliars who can pull it out of the
bag when I want to. Wejust need to have the energy to fire
it in. Let's hope we cando that on Sunday. Any Yeah,
we take a break there and hearwhat Fantastic Fanatics can do with a little
bit of help from ourselves. Andlet's all of us. We can all

Sheerness, But it was not alwayslike that. He's often found airing thoughts

(45:27):
and views on Facebook. Mill fanMan and boy. Let's welcome a Roland
Pierce to have virtual studio. Hallo, Roland, good evening, Amen,
good evening. Everybody else there? He Hi, Hi, Roland. They're
all there, they all they areamazing. Our jest voice is always recognized.

(45:51):
I've noticed that. Yeah, Ican imagine. I can imagine why
as well. Anyway, Roland, before I let you off to the panel,
was supporting Millwall an option or wasit your destiny? I think it's
got to be a destiny coming in. Why that's supported the Lions uncle's cousins.

(46:19):
And I think I went to thefirst game in sixty two when I
was four years old. I can'tremember who it was against. My first
memory is Norride City, but Idon't think that was the first game,
No, believe it or not,Norride City. Well there you go.

(46:40):
That can't be bad, did you? Did you? Did you remember some
bloke called Lynn Julien's He was mydad's favorite player. I think, Yeah.
He always used to talk to meabout him. I couldn't remember,
but yeah, he always used toquote Lene has been one of his favorite

(47:05):
players. We'll say a load ofDebbie Julian's door. Yeah, hello,
by Harry you that's absolutely fine. And the thing I actually mentioned on Facebook
or one of the other sites toyourself about my dad's love for Lynne.

(47:28):
Yeah, yeah, it was.We had a conversation, didn't we We
did, b Yeah, lovely, that's really nice. Thank you. So
it's thirty years at the Den BlinaRoad and you have attended obviously many times,
but your standout game, which whichwas that and what period and why

(47:57):
it was a hard odd thing tochoose to be honest, and I've chosen
the eighteen nineteen season and the fA Cup fullth round versus Everson. And
the reason the reason I've chosen thatis to me, that's a typical Millwall
performance, underdog playing against a muchbigger club, a lot of fight,

(48:24):
not exactly the best game, butexciting with a great finish, and it
stands out in the memory. Yeah, it was a great game, fantastic
even even Jeff remembers that. Yes, that was the Murray wallest winner,

(48:47):
wasn't it from three yards? Yeah? Yeah, the the coops is second.
The second goal was a little bitjuby, but it stood. So
Yeah, Murray got the winner, which was a great finish. Well,

(49:07):
Endot Miles, now Ella Roland Marzy. Alright, Miles, you put us
some strong views posted Bristol City game. Can you share us share of thoughts
with us and the listeners? Obviously, you know I put that post up.
Obviously it was a great result ofBurry in the first game, and
I'll be honest, I was overthe moon with that and it was a

(49:30):
bit unexpected. But the second game, and obviously the Cup game in midweek
was quite disappointing to say the least. And Saturday against Bristol obviously an emotional
day, and what I was sayingwas like, you know, like John
Barrelson. Obviously the sad passing onJuly the fourth, right in the middle

(49:53):
of preseason, the guys were away. I think it's obviously affected the team.
I don't see how it could not. And then some of the other
points I made, the transfer rumorswith zim Flam. I mean, I

(50:13):
think in my view it looks tome that maybe his head's been turned,
you know, like sort of thinkingit may be going somewhere else. And
who would blame him, I supposereally obviously, I don't know that the

(50:34):
fact that we brought in some inmy view, really good players. The
full Mason has gone back to theback five, and I really think that's
where Joe Brian came into the fold. Obviously a really good signing, and
but really he is a left wingback. He's a you know, gets

(50:58):
up the picture a lot, getssome cross is in and it's he really
suits her back three. And Ithink that's in Gary Rowit's thing. But
it's also you know, we gotmost of our good results last year again
we were back four brad Shaw topsa last season. You know, he

(51:27):
season is professional in and he's nowon the bench. I find some of
the some of the things a littlebit strange, to be honest. And
obviously George Long has gone to Norwich. Okay, Roman Miles, Thanks Roland.
It's interesting and very interesting. Goodthoughts mate, Jeff Rolland it's been

(51:53):
a while since we've spoken, hasn'tit. How are you? I'm absolutely
trying, Jeff, thank you verymuch and yourself good ah yeah. Also,
look, one thing I'd like toask you about your opinion and those
of that sit and stand around youat the games. We've brought in these
two youngsters, Romaine Essay and Idon't know Macu. We've seen quite a

(52:16):
bit of them both preseason and inthe game so far. How have you
taken to them? What do youthink the fans view of their involvement is
at the moment? I would say, like myself, it's excitement really.
Obviously, Remain is a very talentedguy, and I think hundred percent deserves

(52:42):
a chance, whether it be asan impact player off the bench or starting.
I honestly think at the moment i'dstarted I'm probably in the place of
Zion or maybe on the right, but a marker to me. I think

(53:05):
you see that in the interview thatthey gave after the middles of a game.
He's he seems very hungry. Heexcites me a lot. Actually,
I think he wants to go places. And as I say, the same
as remaining, whether it's off thebench or whether it's a starter, I

(53:28):
think the future is promising and tobe honest, I'd like to see a
lot more of the youngsters coming throughbecause they've obviously got a talented group there
with how well they did last year. Well they did do well. I
mean, did you go to thatUnder twenty one Cup final they won at

(53:49):
the Den? No? I sawit on live stream, but I didn't
mean it didn't go it is.It was a good group and I think
Kevin Nugent and Paul Robinson, whowho run the under twenty ones, they're
aware that this year is going tobe a different group because not only have
one or two players moved on,but we've got of Chin o'coley who's Bromley,

(54:10):
We've got done our Botang who's atWoking, and intriguingly we've got this
young goalkeeper, Joe Wright who's goneon a loan to a league club.
He's gone a loan to Salford andhe hasn't made the starting lineup yet,
but we've got to keep our eyeson that one. He's a very,

(54:31):
very promising goalkeeper. Indeed. Sodo you think in general, then,
Roland, that the fans will bepushing for Romaine and possibly I don't know,
to be starting games sooner or later, or do you think we'll stick

(54:52):
with the experienced players until the seasonsettles down Billy. So I think the
fans are looking for him to comein because of that impact obviously they made
at Middlesborough, but obviously they arevery young. One of the comments I
made in my post on the Middlesboroughgame, I said that if you was

(55:16):
a defender and you've had sort ofsixty seventy minutes of dunk and what more
running at you, and then yousee remain Essay and Marco coming off the
bench, Yeah, I think I'dlike to see him given a chance.

(55:37):
And I think it really Gary's gotfrom one of the better word to get
out of jail free card because ifhe did start them and it didn't work,
I think they're going to get achance they're going to get. The
fans are going to be a bitlenient with them because they know how good
they are made it right there,Yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyhow,

(56:04):
look before you go, as isa tradition, can you give us a
prediction for Norwedge versus Millwall. Wehaven't won there since she was a boy
back in nineteen sixty. Well,oh, look, I mean obviously they've
had a drawer and that four fouraway at Southampton and they won two one

(56:30):
against Hull and I think the wholewinning the lead in that game, so
they've they've scored six and they've concededfive. So I'm going for a scoring
drawer hopefully. I think that wouldbe a good result and I'm going to
go for I'm going to go bebrave two two two to the Lily White

(56:52):
Boys. Yeah, okay, thenwe'll we'll put that in the box.
Thanks Roland, it's been great tohear from you again and we were all
the best to you and many thanksfor sharing your thoughts. Thanks very much
everybody. In the not too distantfuture and tell us about the story of

(57:13):
Gillingham and running across the pitch orsomething I remember. Anyway, wait,
we'll leave that in the cupboard fornow. But anyway, now take care
of my friend hearing yours, soyou see very much. Bye bye bye,

(57:39):
Roland. Thank you. That wasgreat, Roland Pierce. Hey,
another one of Jeff's friends from thecupboard. But there you go. We'll
take a break there and listen toBethany Warrent talking about clean feet. Bethany

(58:00):
Warren here clean Feed by Ted Robinson. Ah holder, we're talking about an
online recording platform. Okay, ourTed Robinson sponsors our online clean feed recording
platform. What were you thinking of? Well, it sounded a little bit

(58:22):
like a pathumed intense really behave right, just just go online and see who
else uses clean Feed. It's agreat bit of kit at a great price.
Oh yeah, Hostamon Barkley with me. Oh, no one likes us
talking to m Are Devid, Julian's, Miles Thornton and Jeff Burnage. He

(58:45):
can't help but smile that advert, particularly when Ted Robinson listens to it.
And yeah, very kind of Tedto sponsor our virtual studio. And it
certainly is a great bit of kit. All right, well, we are
all looking forward to the next game. But In the meantime, here are
a few matters of interest for Millwallfans. First off, supporters who were
