Speaker 2 (00:14):
Hello, really and welcome to the twenty twenty four twenty
five series of Millll's No Alights's talkins our mill fan Show.
I'm your host Miles Thaunton and with me of the
No ALIGHTSS Talking team of Phil Coleman, Dave Hart and
Sam Robinson.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Not everybody likes them, but they don't care.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Get ready for an exciting celebration tomorrow. It's the fiftieth
anniversary of the twenty sixth of April nineteen seventy five
and that's a really special milestone. The person who holds
that special date will be at the den, so watch
out and see what unfolds. Millwell had some fantastic news
to share this Thursday. They've partnered with eleven Sports Media
as the official front of shirt sponsor for the mill Liners,
(00:56):
his first team, starting with a long term deal from
the twenty to twenty five for the sixth season. This
partnership highlights their commitment to supporting the club's rich community
ties in advancing women's football. Eleven's investment will play a
crucial role in supporting the Mill Community Trust, which is
making a real difference by providing a pathway for young
female footballers to develop a thrive on their journey brilliant.
(01:19):
For further details, check out the Mill Committee Trust or
the club's websites. A great bounce back from our defeat
at Blackburn was beating Norwich three run at the denal
Easter Monday. With two games to go, we're now mathematically
still within a chance or a playoff spot. The loss
of our goalkeeper Lucas Jensen ahead of Blackburn for what
appears to be an extensive period believed to be nine months,
(01:40):
it was a dent to our form. He wasn't the
only one. Joe Bryan also had an injury which made
him miss our Ewood Park and against Norwich ted good evening, mate,
we'll use at Ewood Park and he was at the
Den this Easter. What would you say, apart from winning
the latter were the differences between the two games.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
When we lost the one we won that was you Well,
I think, like everybody else, I was a bit shocked
to see the news and I feel for Lucas Shenson.
You know, I understand he's done his achilles ruptured. He's achilles,
which is would be about nine months, I would think,
And obviously we had no backup because Roberts has got
(02:23):
an injury in the moment. So the young lad George Evans,
who by the way, I don't think I had much
chance with any of the goals, was thrown in. But
the trouble is, and I think Phil will be able
to tell you more about this than me, but even
in my standard of football, you're back four and your
goalkeeper all you're all one team altogether, but that's your
knit and to lose something like that, I thought at
(02:45):
times the boys looked like they was trying to protect him,
And when you start not concentrating on what your job
is and trying to protect somebody else, I think it's
led to what I considered goals that we could have
prevented that we didn't at knowledge. So it finished up
being although up to our time we as many chances,
(03:05):
and then when it could have been anything afterwards in
the second half, we just sort of more or less
fell apart a little bit. So it was disappointing, but
I've got to say I was so impressed with the
way they bounced back against Norwedge and I thought knowledge
was probably our best performance of the season. It was
very close to it anyway, And yeah, it's strange. I mean,
(03:29):
if if I could put my finger on why you
could have one performance like that and the other like
that and even out I've been I'll put you in
the premiership of managing the team because it you know,
it was more or less the same people but obviously
a completely different result. But what a day Monday was
because every result went for us as so we're now
(03:51):
backing it with a shower. So but yeah, fantastic performance
against him. I was disappointed with Blackburn, but thankfully we
bounced back and showed what we could do.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Greet ed, agreed, feel good evening mate. From my perspective,
I believe the black Bone result was a minor setback,
due in part to force changes, as Ted sort of
explained that. However, it did lead to some people on
social media claim that it demonstrated alex Nil's lack of
quality to lead us to re enforcing their argument of
(04:22):
our heavy defeat of Plymouth. Sorry, is this a realistic
assumption considering your professional experience in the game.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
No, it's not. Realistic at all and I agree with Ted.
You goal keep them back for you build partnerships the
right side. Center back builds a partnership with his right
back and right away across the back four. And you
have to be consistent. So when you lose your keeper,
when you lose a left back, it takes them juggling
around and you have to build new partnerships and it's
not easy. Alex Neil came in just after Christmas. The
(04:54):
club was I think being only table. I think I
remember one win being about eight nine games and it
is tough going in mid season. You're going right in
the middle of the season. The games are coming thick
and fast over the new year. You've got to get
to know the ground, the training ground, the routines. You've
got to find out the players. You really have got
(05:16):
to work out the players. Then you've got to find
a way to play, or shall I say find the
players or get the players to play your way. And
he's coming with a proven track record in the championship.
He's won lots of games and he's got a record
of developing players. And for me, I looked it up
this afternoon. Alex has led us to twelve wins, four
(05:38):
draws and eight losses. That's forty points and a fifty
win rate. Well, fifty win rate in any league is outstanding.
He's got a young squad, he's had some tough interest
to deal with, he's had suspensions obviously a highlighted rue
at Crystal Palace, and he's trying to mold the squad
how he wants them to play, and then will be
(05:59):
poor games like Plymouth. But there's one thing that the
players have bounced back, and they've proven they can bounce
back because they don't have run after run of defeats.
But also that's the championship. And I've said on this
program before, you know, the championship is brutal. Unless you
are one hundred percent bang on it, you're going to
get done. And if you're not quite there and you
have injuries and dropouts before Blackburn, you get done. To
(06:22):
use another word, consistent the team and has to be consistent.
It's okay to lose, but if you're consistently picking up points,
you're going to be in an around the playoffs, you know.
And I would say, as well, let's judge Alex n
Neil after he's had his own summer where he's had
his pre season where he might have got a couple
of players in to strengthen the team. He might let
a few go and then let's see how he kicks off.
(06:43):
And if we're chomping at the bit and we are
improved after about ten games, then we can start judging
Alex Neil. But he's coming at a really tough time
and for me, he's done a great job.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Yeah, totally agree with you, Phil Dave Good even him
as Easter Monday saw a great result which void fans,
players and staff alike. Was there much said by players
about defeating Norwich at the annual Millwall Awards still which
you regularly attend. The dinner was a fantastic evening and
a great new venue. But speaking to the players around
(07:18):
the room during that evening, everybody was absolutely buzzing to
be back with being a chance of actually securing the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (07:30):
There was no there was no doubt in anybody's mind
as far as I but I could pick up, every
player we spoke to was looking forward to basically two wins,
and I think their their attitude and response to the
Blackburn defeat was obviously in their minds during the evening,
(07:51):
please talk about on that the Ward's evening. Alex Neil
actually summed it all up when he he said when
he when he came into the club, he was a
bit aware of what the club was like and he said,
having seen the rivalry between Rangers and Celtic in Scotland,
(08:14):
he realized that being a millwall that everybody actually hates us.
He said, it's absolutely great. So he expects to get
six boys and I spoke to him. He's looking at
two wins, so that's hope he's right and we get
those three wins.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Yeah, Dave, I do love that story about Celtic Rangers
and his when he found out that everybody really does
hate us. Do we care? Absolutely not. We'll take a
break there and hear about our sponsors Motors.

Many thanks to our sponsors. GINM Motors will check the

Lion who, along with our Phil Coleman, Grace that talented
youth side to FA you've cut victory. Despite being the
nest boy from Ausort in Essex, despite his birthplace, he
(11:03):
played for the Irish Republic under twenty one s on
twelve occasions. He joined me all as a youth player
with us. He went on to play one hundred and
two games in our first team over two terms at
the Dend, between nineteen seventy eight to eighty one and
from nineteen eighty four to eighty six. Let's welcome Tony Kinteller.
Good evening all, a good time, good Evening Alien Hell Time,
(11:28):
philill Tony, We're delighted to have you back on the show.
You're a true favorite of the panel tonight, especially for
Phil Coleman, with whom you've shared the field in some
great coaching moments. Could you share who the standout players
and characters were at the club during your time of
us By the way, I've muted field just for now.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
When I joined, obviously Big Kitch was a big part
of the club when I walked into it, and I
think as a young player coming into the club he
was a talisman. But I think being a left sided
player and left footed player, I think the person I
really warmed to and watched was Phil Walker. Lovely left foot,
(12:16):
lovely lad, very humble boy, and him and John Seasman
were probably the boy the two boys I really looked
at as role models.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
My tons tell you, Hey, ed just finding out that
you grew up in Essex, it was just making me
wonder how did you find an Essex boy find his
way to mill Wall as a young player. I'd also
love to know about your journey through the ranks from schoolboy,
the being in that seeing your team.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
What was funny to say because where I was born
this is a west Ham mannor to be fair, where
I was born. It was all west Ham and mainly
Arsenal supporters. You see the lot, Yeah, that's it said, No,
but what what it? What it was, mate? It was
(13:11):
I was brought up with Paul Allen. We played in
the same district side, the same county side, and Paul's
uncle Les Allen, as you know, played for Tottenham. So
as youngsters we were training at Tottenham Arsenal west Ham.
(13:32):
But I think the thing for me to more, more
more than anything when I was trained all these clubs
was I was looking at it and you know, it
wasn't until Bob Pearson really appeared on the scene. I really,
I really looked at the Mill situation and I thought myself, yeah,
(13:54):
you know, I'm going to go along now train at Mill,
have a look to see to see what the situation is.
And Bob Bob all along. All along the journey, Bob
was Bob was assuring me that it was getting getting
a good group of young boys together from different parts.
I mean there was Kevin from Essex, you know, Paul Roberts,
(14:18):
s six, Dave Martin, and there was a few others
but after training there a few times I looked I
looked at it and I thought myself, you know, this
could be this could be the start of a group
of young boys that that could that could that could
do a little bit, because I could see by training
(14:39):
there that you know, majority of the maternity boys they
could all play. So that was the main reason I'd
come down to Millwall, was mainly because you know, looking
at the lads, I could see there was a lot
of talented boys. But it was mainly to do with
Bob Hears and Ted. If I'm honest, you.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
Never mentioned field here in the chality one, but we
won't go into that. Just ship.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
I agreed.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
I still still was ahead of a kicker, but it
was all right.
Speaker 5 (15:08):
I wasn't telling you it was just destroyed pole.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
That's a talented zone.
Speaker 6 (15:17):
Hi, it's Dave here.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Hello, David Hell.
Speaker 6 (15:24):
When you made your Fall League debut, who did you
play against in that game? And what members do you have.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
Of that day?
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Maybe debut at the Den seventeen it was against Wrexham.
I don't don't really remember much about the game, David.
If I'm honest, if I think it was a really
wet night, it was a miserable night, and I remember
sitting in the dugout and Geles saying to me, George
pectually saying to me, well that it's twenty minutes ago, son, Neil, Neil,
(15:58):
can you go on and do it?
Speaker 4 (15:59):
Do it it?
Speaker 3 (16:00):
And I looked at him and thinking, do a bit,
you know, I try so. I remember getting up out
the dugout, going down the oh a little bit of
red grab by the pitch, getting getting stripped and going
on there. But it was, to be fair as a
bit of a blur because it was only sort of
fifteen twenty minutes, so it just seemed a flash by
(16:22):
Davy Vomnist. I can't remember that much about it.
Speaker 6 (16:26):
What about your full were when you've started your full
full games as a player?
Speaker 3 (16:33):
Yeah, well, when I think we it was well, it
was exciting in the fact that we'd we'd all started
to break into the first team. I think, you know
it was It weren't as though I was going into
a side with a lot of strangers. We'd you know,
we'd all training in around the first team. We all
knew that we were gradually getting introduced into the first team,
(16:57):
and you know, it was like walking back into the
U team because you know, field Wood played, mem had played,
Paul Robertson played, Kelly had played, So there was you know,
there was a there was a lot of us that
sort of broke in around that first team at the
same time. So it wasn't foreign to me. I think
it was. It was just a situation where I looked
(17:18):
at and you know, went into you know, confident that
you know, I knew every everyone in the side, and
just felt comfortable in that environment.
Speaker 6 (17:30):
Phil, what do you think.
Speaker 5 (17:34):
About totally Uh, talented, great left peg works hard and
as Tony says, when you're in the environment and you're
being supported by manager backs and George Petty, he brought
so many youngsters through and you've got big kitchen around
Phil Walker, Dave Donaldson, Tony Hazel, Don Seisman, these players,
(17:56):
John Mitchell came in later on. They were the people
that sort of led the team. But it was comfortable
being around youth teammates and we were playing against the
first team when we were kids, and we were playing
with the first team in and around it, and it
was it was a really good transition. I found it
quite easy to be honest with Returnal got about you.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
Yeah, after I was saying, Phil, I think, like we've
spoke before, I just it was just an environment we
stepped into where, you know, the senior boys were different
class with us. There was no no big time Charlie's
I think, you know, once you once you step into that,
you know what the normal fans wanted. They wanted you
(18:37):
to to give hundred percent. And we were all honest
boys who just went out and tried to tried to
try to work hard, and and lucky enough, you know,
we were you know, we had a little bit of
talent about so you know, it was just it was
just as we know the story goes. It was just
a shame that it was just broken up a little
(18:58):
bit too soon.
Speaker 5 (19:00):
It was an amazing time. If you look at some
of the stats, there's games in probably seventy nine to
eighty where there was eight youth team.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Players in the first team. That is that's bonkers.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
You know, we might, as we spoke about before, Phield,
I think in the history of football and the history
of youth teams, and we said this, We've said this
many a time to each other and to other members
of the squad that I don't think there's many youth
teams in the history of the game that every single
(19:31):
member of that youth team has gone on and played
in the first team.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
Yeah it thirteen out of thirteen all side pronal played
in the first team.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
That's unbelievable and it may never happen again, Phil. But
the thing is, you know, we we come into a
football club that you know that supports were different class.
You know, they were hard at times, but I always
felt they were fair. If he was having a bad game,
they'd let you know, you know, and in terms, but
(20:01):
you know, if you were doing well, that was with
your one hundred percent, which you know, I've always found
that the mill support was you know, good, very good.
Speaker 5 (20:11):
Yeah, you put a shift in your work old you
get their support even if you get beat. I just
want to see your grafting and working and putting the
shifting for the team.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
That they and all they want.
Speaker 5 (20:20):
Yeah, I'll move on.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
Time.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
Good to see a doctor's day at the dead and
we celebrated the good mate Dave Memmit members we call him.
I spoke about men quite a few times on here
over the last year since we lost him, and the
last time I spoke it went out on maritime radio.
But time, what's your most in deary memories of Men?
You've got any good stories and those those nice memories.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
Yeah, I mean the thing about Men was, you know,
it was all devastated when we lost him. But growing
up with him, you know, we played against some tality
kids in the youth teams, your your kids from Everton
and Men's City, and we played against your Crystal Palaces
when they were when they were the top youth team.
But I don't think I ever played or come across
(21:07):
a boy with as much talent as Men.
Speaker 9 (21:10):
You know, he was.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
He was special then. And I was lucky enough to
spend some time when we went out in Tampa with him,
well quite a bit at of time. And I remember
turning up at the airport when we flew out to
Tamper and we had to meet up with Big Frank Worthington,
and he was going out and obviously Frank had Addy's
(21:32):
career where and me and me and Men were just
starting out. And I remember Frank saying to the pair
of us as we were waiting to board, he said
to them myself and them, so what you're looking forward
to boys?
Speaker 5 (21:46):
You know?
Speaker 3 (21:46):
For for two young boys to start to start out
in Tampa. He's very unusual. It's normally. It's normally a
end of season affair. So, you know, we said to
him about the financial situation at Millwall, and this's the
reason we were out here. But I remember Men turning
(22:07):
around to Frank and he says to Frank, well, the
two things I'm really looking forward to is playing against
Nay Skins and George best So Frank says to Men
and myself, well, we so I know, I know George,
he said, when we play Jose, that's where George is
(22:29):
playing at the time. He said, I'll introduce you to him. So,
I mean, Men was like a dog with two you
know what, and he you know and and all on
the plane going out there, I'm sitting there, and then
kept saying to me, going to meet Bestie, going to
meet Besty Tone And I said, yeah, I know, Men,
(22:52):
you must get out there and we can. We can
meet George whenever we play them. Well, we play. We're
playing in New York Cosmos at home and about seventy
thousand people there and Gordon Jago names the side and
myself and them were playing in the center of the park.
We hadn't been out there long. And he names the
(23:13):
New York side, New York Cosmos side, and he said,
in midfield for Cosmos, every playing a lad called Bogovic
who's a Yugoslavian four international. Every year he gets into
the All Stars American team. Fantastic leffort, good player, he said.
Alongside him, will be Nae Skins, he said, Dutch international,
(23:35):
he said, rated one of the best midfield players in
the world. So anyway, we're changing and John Gorman, who's
the captain at the time, loved a bit of banter
and he come over to me and Mem and he went,
he looked at us and he went, all the best boys,
he said, against them to him midfield and started laughing
and walked off. So as we're going out into the pitch,
(23:59):
the girl there were the old Pompons and we're walking
out into the pitch, Mems in front of me. Men
turns around to me and it's like, I mean, I'm
absolutely crapping myself. I've got to be honest, and I'm
walking out of the pitch and Mems looked at me
and he's gone, listen, He's forget about Bogovich and nayskins.
He said, let's show him. We're two boys from Millwell
(24:23):
and we can play a bit. We win the game
to one. Men gets Man of the Match. Unbelievable. I
remember I remember coming up with Pitch looking at him thinking, wow,
watch a player. And that's that's my memory of mem
and it and the other thing that struck me about
them growing up with him is reputations meant nothing to him.
(24:48):
He knew he was as good as anything he played against,
and that was Men.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
Great, so brilliant.
Speaker 6 (24:55):
No thanks for that, Yeah, members of fantastic player and
he's missed by lots of people anyway, Tony's dive again.
I've wanted to play you play against who was the
toughest you play the gamest?
Speaker 3 (25:12):
Oh, there was a few. I remember being I switch
and coming on against Liverpool Portman Road and within five
minutes the ball, the ball gets played out to me.
I'm just I'm just about to control it and soon
ness has absolutely cleaned me, nearly snapped me and ask
and as I'm on the pitches above me saying you
(25:35):
know what you're doing on the piece? Does your mum?
Speaker 4 (25:37):
No, you're here?
Speaker 3 (25:38):
And and that was that was probably the artist. I
think the best player I ever played against it was
probably Hoddle. Oddle we played at Wahot Lane. I switch
against Tottenham. Maybe it's free one. Hoddle was just different.
(25:58):
It was just different. And I mean you can you
couldn't get you couldn't get near the fellow. I mean
people used to annoy me when he was to say
about Hoddle, he can't sackle, he can't run, and they
didn't tell you what he could do. I mean he
could drop a ball sixty seventy yards over the top
of people on a sixpence. He just had two great free,
(26:19):
great vision. It was just it was just for me.
People talk about Gascoyne, but I think for me, Poddles
up there with the most talent, one of the most
talented English players ever.
Speaker 6 (26:34):
Yeah, great start, Tony.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
I'll tell you what the names that you're rolling out here,
there are world class people.
Speaker 10 (26:41):
Now.
Speaker 4 (26:42):
I love that story about them, about you two being.
Speaker 6 (26:44):
To be a wall boys.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
It's going shown meet and play. But he was a
fantastic player, but you weren't about yourself done by the way,
it was pretty pretty decent as I remember rightly.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Yeah, famous mate, I feel I don't remember faus made
were meant though.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
It was pretty good mate. But I've got you had
extensive coaching background as well, most recently with the old
Field who I'm not sure it was he as good
manager as he was a player that might have a
brain tree, I believe in the National League.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
So yeah, we've done a bit of this. He had
done a bit this year and said with brain three,
I mean film more so than myself. I mean I
was getting involved with with the coaching. I mean I've
done a little bit of switch because I had to
do all the the UA for badges because I was
working in the academy for three years and then just
(27:43):
putting around non leagues football until I've got a phone
call film and fil so would you like to get
involved a brain tree? So and I just said, yeah,
I'll come along Film give you a end. And I
started going along with Phil, putting a few sessions on
working with the boys. Really enjoyed in it. And then
I had to step away from mixing my youngest daughter.
(28:03):
I've got three daughters and the youngest all got married
in South Africa, so I had to step aside and
knock it on the edge a little bit really, But yeah,
I mean the brain trew thing at that that level
where field's working is decent because you're it's a good standard,
good players, decent crowds, and it's really like the watch
(28:26):
Fish Football League and it really in the National League.
It's a decent standard.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
As your mindset on formations and things. I mean, we
all know that football's changed a lot, and I think
you know I've spoken we feel bad before. I think
sometimes I think it's a bit overcomplicated in my opinion
about formations and what it still comes down play it
in a certain way, and yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
One hundred percent said, I think there's never been a
system that's won a game with football. It's all the
game is all about players. I mean, you can set
up five one, four, three three whatever system, but you've
got to pick a system that suits your players. I mean,
it's no good having a center forward that's great in
the air if you play two hundred passes and don't
go no where, you get the ball wide, don't deliver
(29:13):
it in the box him to attack. I mean a
boy Ivanovich, he looks a player, so you know, so
there's a boy Coben. But the thing is, you know
they need service. So you know, I'm a great believer
in mixing it up and I think me and Phil
are spoken about this. I mean, what people don't realize
about man City when they're watching play. They think it's
(29:34):
all tipy tappy possession football. But when you watch MANC
the amount of times that the Brauner over the years
is not the ball long in behind the oppositions back
for for Harland to chase. And you know, to be
fair to Alex Neil, I think I watched some of
his games when his manager at Norwich and he's done
(29:55):
well at Sunderland. And what I like about him and
I did like about him as a manager, is the
fact I don't think he's he's worried about changing formations
and if he thinks he needs to add strikers to
the to the to the scene, he does it as
he's to come one against Middlesbrough when we didn't really
(30:16):
look as though we were going to score goals first
off and it's completely changed the game second half, and
you know with Middlesbrough are pieces to be fair second half.
So I think there's too much emphasis on systems. I
think it's it's all about just getting the best out
of the players you've got and putting them in, putting
them in a system or a pattern of play where
(30:39):
you know, home and away. Like Phil's just said about
being consistent, you know what you're going to get from
your players.
Speaker 5 (30:47):
You agree, So you've just answered my next question because
Oscar to ask you about the Middlesbrough game and what
you thought Alex Neil when now he managed it. But
we've done it, make brilliant. So what's your thoughts on
Alex Neil?
Speaker 3 (30:59):
Do you know much about Yeah, I know a little
bit about him Phil because like living down here in Ipswich,
I you know, I used to cover a lot of
the the knowledge games for the press and I used
to and when he was in charge of Norledge, he's
done a great job. I mean I like him. I
think he you know, he does like possession football, but
(31:20):
he also he doesn't mind the ball in behind the opposition,
which I like. I think it asked but as you know,
being a back forth player, the last thing you want
to be seen is all gone over the top of
your red and you're chasing him back towards your own goal.
So I think if you can mix it up, which
I think he does. He done well at Sunderland's. I
know the press and the Stoke situation didn't really work
(31:42):
out for him, but I do like him Phil and
I think, you know, given time, I think he could
he could be the answer to the situation. And I
still think we've got a chance. I think we'll be
anyone at the Den. Swansea won't be fancy coming there
setting and Burnley away, yeah, are they in party mode?
(32:03):
All they fancy? But you know, I look at the
fixtures and I mean Coventry have got to go to
loot and who were desperate for points and be Bristol
City last week. They've got Middlesbrough last game of the season.
You know, Bristol City have got to go to Leeds
yet you know, I know they've got Preston home last
game of the season. But you know, there's there's there's
(32:24):
opportunities in Middlesbrough. You know, Middlesbrough, I mean the end
of the day, they've got they've got commentary, They've got
to play commentary away. So you know, I still think
if we beat Swansea Saturday, you know, I think I
think it could it could be interesting last game of
the season.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
Yeah, brilliant.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Thanks for that, thanks to totally amazing stuff and some
amazing stories in that. Before you go, there's Ted's prediction league.
Were asked to show your predictions for free championship scores
at the season's end, which isn't actually very far away.
We'll see who has the best score predictors gills among
the gets the most. I can tell you now, I'm
(33:02):
nowhere near the top, Ted overt.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
Yeah, I'm quite close to the top town next week.
But there's I know anything really, but here we go.
So you mentioned a couple of games anyway that the
course this week I have to focus with on their
silves and having the opportunity of getting in the playoffs.
So the first game that has gone with is that
(33:26):
obviously beloved lines. I just see that one game Mill
will Swansea. What you reckon on that one?
Speaker 3 (33:31):
I think it would be Swansea, Ted, I think I
think there would be I think there'll be three mil
to us.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
They are the form team though it's only in the
division one day last.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
Yeah, but I mean you look at you, look at
you look at our last week results trans any any
anyone at the den me?
Speaker 4 (33:51):
I really would I've got to be honest, I'm happier
against the side coming here that's one day last five
games and that's just lost in five games. Is yeah, yeah,
it is free. But that the second game was the
one that you mentioned lot and a commentary. Have you
see that one?
Speaker 5 (34:10):
Go?
Speaker 3 (34:11):
Well, that would be interesting. I think if I'm Frank Lampard,
you know, after seeing lout and b Bristol City the
other day, I think I think that'd be you know,
that would be a tough that'd be a tough game
for for commentary. I take I'll take looton to one there.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
Yeah. Of course Comentry just lost to Plymouth as well. Yeah, yeah,
I think on with you. I think are going to
nick that one and the last one. And this could
be a strange one really is obviously the other team
in amongst it is Middlesborough and they're home to Norwich
who just sat there.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Yeah, see that that could work. That could work in
our favor because the Jack rulesh has gone in as manager.
There'd be players playing for their future. They want to
put there what they want to put shifting for the
new boss. So I think a change of manager at
knowledge might work in our favor. I'm going one all there.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
Yeah again I agree with your time. I think exactly
how you put it there. I think that I don't
think Norriedge was as bad as we made them look
for the players are, but let's hope not beget to
have benefits if it comes off like that.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
Yeah, let's so because I think that, you know, looking
at that knowledge, that knowledge thing, I think the thing
about us and I think Phil said it right. I
think we just got to get a little bit of consistency.
You know, Middlesbrough game was different class. But I watched
the Blackbird game, isn't it and it was a complete
obviousitely you want to thought it was the same mill
All side. But you know, let's less the results go
(35:42):
for a seading. We've we've got to shout last game
of the season yeahers huh okay.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
Mate, amazing, amazing, Tony, thank you very much for coming
on the show. It's been truly a pleasure to hear
your amazing stories and thoughts about the modern game and
the game back back when you guys were playing. We
can't wait for fulfilling you to appear on a long
waited podcast together. Wish you and yours all the best.
Take care, smiles, all the best fellers. Yeah yeah, thank you,
(36:16):
good night. We'll take a break there and hear about Ellie.
Listen talking about Harvest and cafe.
Speaker 10 (36:22):

Armys they and again tell me what goes on?

every match day from eleven thirty till half two. And
the girls up here all lovely and friendly.
Speaker 10 (36:45):

Speaker 9 (36:49):

hot chocolate, soft drinks, snacks, everything you could need.
Speaker 10 (37:00):
Yes, so it's all here, all available, a great team
to serve it up to you. Well, what else can
I say but carry on in Harvey's style here at
Harvey's Den Cafe and all the best to you Ellie
and your team, and I look forward to coming up
and enjoying some of the fair in not the far
(37:22):
distant future. Well, in fact, I've already done that. The
coffee is just super Thanks Ellie, Thanks Amon.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
I'm your host, mas Thornton, and with me I have
the noel less talking team of Ted Robinson, Dave Hart
and Phil Common. Harvey's Den Cafe is located upstairs of
the Lions Center the Milk Commy to Trust Home on
Berlina Road, fifty yards from the club shop. Great food
and reasonable prices. Now then let's hear it from Meli's part.
Speaker 12 (37:48):
Hello, Elisia and I am glad to be back talking
about Merwell. I know many have watched my videos. Thanks
for your support along the way. It is now time
to you what all the Maywell teams are up to.
Speaker 7 (38:05):
Come on Maywell.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
Thanks as always, Ellis. Paul Loading brings us the mill
Romans and Pride up date for the week.
Speaker 11 (38:12):
Hi, it's Paul Loading at the Millwall Romans with a
quick update. Nothing to report from the football side of
things apart from the big fixture fixtures, I should say
this weekend with the Romans playing against the Stonewall and
Pride playing against Childwyn, both to be played at the Den,
with Romans kicking off at two pm and Pride kicking
(38:34):
off at five pm, that's going to be a really,
really good afternoon. Tickets are free and the bar is open.
I'm told a few of us did get a chance
to attend the Millwall end of season Player Awards again,
which as always it's a it's a great privilege to
be there amongst all the first team players and yeah,
it was good. It was a really, really good evening
(38:54):
and we wish them well obviously in the last two
games of the season. Predictions wise this week, I've been
told that I'm in with a good chance of winning
this and i am. I am quite a competitive so
right Millwall Swansea, I'm going to say Millwall are gonna
nick that one nil, Loot and Coventry. I think Coventry
might take that. I'm going to say Coventry one nil
(39:18):
and Middlesbrough Norwidge I'm going to say Norwige one nil
as well on that one.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
Well, Paul, I would have been that competitive if I
realized Ted was paying for the winner to go to
New York for pie and mash. The Lioness has had
a weekend break, but congratulations, so I spoke shirt sponsored
Lions Kira Watlin for being voted their player of the Year.
Ted looks forward to receiving your shirt as you're also
on the leading gold as you're also the leading goal scorer.
(39:44):
Maybe he'll take care of Watt into New York as well.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
There's no cross.
Speaker 6 (39:50):
New York.
Speaker 11 (39:52):
Well.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
The excitement is building as we prepare to face Swansea
this Saturday at three pm at the Den. In October,
we had a freeing game at the Swansea dot Com State,
celebrating a fantastic victory, all thanks to an incredible goalkeeping
by Lucas Jensen and Dinorre's late goal against Swansea, his
second in successive seasons there. This Saturday, we'll be up
(40:12):
against a revitalized Swansea squad who recently achieved their fifth
consecutive championship win by defeating QPR on Monday by two
goals to one, enhancing Alan Shehan's prospects of taking the
Rains permanently. Under Shean's leadership, they've secured seven wins and
only two losses in his last eleven matches since Steppinin's
caretaker boss after Luke Williams was let go in February.
(40:34):
They also had five clean sheets in a row. If
it weren't for Caramoka Denblet's late goal for Rangers, which
was actually their first shot on target. What an impressive turnaround.
They're now finishing the season much closer to the playoffs
than the relegation zone, only six points shy of the
top six on the bookies front, with five to four
favorites for a win, a drawer is two to one
(40:57):
and a Swansea win is nine to four, better than
we've had for a while in our favor We hope
that the starting lineup will closely reflect that which defeated Norwich.
Just a quick reminder that when you're making the predictions,
you and I can't predict the same score. So what
do you think everyone? Are we hoping for a positive result?
What could it go another way?
Speaker 1 (41:18):
Ted?
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Ope to you right?
Speaker 4 (41:21):
Obviously the first one is mil Swansea. By the way,
I was at the dinner as well and I echo
got dose in every player as spoke to, which is
nice thing. We are a very good word to say
about Alex Neil and lets you know we have a
strong and fit enough squad to take Swansea on, which
isn't going to be an easy game by obviously you
(41:44):
can sell by their form, but I've gone for Millwalk
to beat Swansea two one. So first up, Phil, what
do you reckon?
Speaker 10 (41:51):
Mate?
Speaker 5 (41:53):
I normally get done as the last to pick, so
I've got a choice here, So I'll let two nil.
Speaker 4 (42:02):
Soon nil yes, not a bad shout. Actually that's.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
Show.
Speaker 6 (42:09):
Sorry, I'm going to go. I'm going to go one er.
Speaker 4 (42:16):
One milk their lives and that leaves you then, young Miles.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
Yeah, I feel Ted's paint here?
Speaker 12 (42:21):
No, not Ted?
Speaker 2 (42:22):
Who is it Phil?
Speaker 4 (42:25):
I'll go three one, I'll go three one three one,
let's hope. So second up, stick with the same formats.
I feel Luton versus Coventry, I've gone to one of Luton.
Speaker 5 (42:38):
Yeah, I'm probably going to go with Luton as well.
I'll probably go I'll probably go to nilka Luton. It's
gonna be a tough game there for Country.
Speaker 4 (42:48):
Yeah, I must admit I could say to when I
wrote my scores out and going in the part more
than the yet, but I don't know. I think Conry
and Frank Lampard could be suffer under the press. Would
you reckon Dave.
Speaker 6 (43:04):
Againa one nil.
Speaker 4 (43:07):
Two Luton? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (43:10):
Lowton?
Speaker 2 (43:10):
Yeah, one nil for Dave and and you Miles, Oh Dave,
you took my prediction there, mate, okay, I'll go one.
Speaker 4 (43:20):
One, one one right, we'll swap it round here and
go with you first Miles for the last one, which
is Middlesborough versus Norwedge, and I've gone to for a
too nil knowledge victory.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
Yeah, I'm hoping that we'll Jack Will Share, will lead
Norris to we're in and help us out. I'll go
one Neil.
Speaker 4 (43:42):
Norwich one, Neil Knowrwedge, Phil.
Speaker 5 (43:48):
Borrow, Borrow, Ohma formidable, big crowd behind them, Norwrig coming
off out of this seat. I'm going to go Borrow
three nil.
Speaker 10 (44:01):
Dave.
Speaker 6 (44:03):
Yeah, I think it's going to be a hard game
for both spies. Dog Middle are as strong Hamers. As
Phil said, I take one one.
Speaker 5 (44:15):
Wonder.
Speaker 4 (44:15):
That's not a bad shait neither. But I do think
Nora Is You're going to put up the fight this
week a lot better than what they did against us,
because after a defeat like that most sites and I'm
hoping it continues to ten a bounce back. So yeah,
there we go, over you Moles.
Speaker 2 (44:33):
Thanks for that. We also have predictions from Nick Wire
of the Millwall Facebook of Sicily Side. Let's here what
Nick predicts.
Speaker 4 (44:39):
Hello everyone, this is.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
Neck Wire and my predictions are neil Wall to Swansea
Neil Luton one Commentary.
Speaker 4 (44:48):
One and Middlesbrough to Norridge Neil Thing.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
Thanks Nick. We also want to think Dave Hart, who
collates the results. It's always intensely amusing since we can
never predict the same results. We now present Phil Coleman's
Tales from the root Room.
Speaker 5 (45:04):
Hello, we're going Phil Coleman. Here was some towels from
the brute room. As we've just had the end of
season awards and my congratulations saw the winners. Jaffiic Tangganga
in particular has been brilliant and so consistent this season
to a worthy winner of three awards, including one I
personally hold the highest the players player of the Year.
There's nothing better than your teammates recognizing your efforts across
(45:26):
the season. But back in my playing days, I can't
remember attending any Player of the Year awards. I remember
the Player of the Year and the Young Player of
the Year being presented with their trophies on the pitch
at the last home game of the season. There was
only Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year.
But now there seems to be far more awards recognizing
things like the Save of the Year, Porter's Player of
(45:48):
the Year and I've even seen Tackle of the Year.
It's good that young players and others are involved in
the club are recognized.
Speaker 4 (45:55):
For their efforts.
Speaker 5 (45:57):
In fact, from going to a couple of PFA wards
in which were eventful and a great opportunity to see
other teammates and friends from across the leagues. Oh yeah,
and we had a few too many beers and wines.
I can only remember two former occasions that I attended
with Millwell. The first one was laid on by Lewis
and Council in nineteen seventy nine after he won the
Fauve Cup. The whole team, manager, coaches, physio, we all
(46:20):
attended a former meeting all suited and booted, which was
unusual to be recognized by the borough for our achievements.
The second one was in nineteen eighty seven and to
celebrate the club's one hundred year anniversary, again we're all
suited and booted. The whole of the squad and staff
from the eighty six eighty seven season went to a
hotel and park Lane for a posh mill speeches. To
(46:44):
be there was great, although I do remember driving back
via brick Lane to get myself a bagel in the
bagel bake about one in the morning, so I guess
the food wasn't that substantial. One event I would love
to see on the calendar would be a former players
dinner with ex players mingling and sitting on tables alongside fans.
I know other clubs do it. They are successful with
players being interviewed, players making speeches, inductions in the Hall
(47:08):
of Fame and more. Perhaps that will happen one day.
My congratulations and big well done to all the winners
for Mill for this season.
Speaker 3 (47:16):
I'll catch up soon.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
Bye Fanew thanks for that.
Speaker 5 (47:19):
Phil.
Speaker 2 (47:20):
