say welcome to a Grace Spicer.

Speaker 7 (04:05):
Hello, Grace, Hello, all right, thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Well, we're delighted, absolutely delighted. And the other Grace going
to say hello to you as well.

Speaker 8 (04:15):
That's good Grace Hello, You're right, you were good.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah. I always think that's a good thing. Anyway, Grace delights,
have you join us on the show. I first met
you in the executive lounge and then a couple of
seasons ago I was in the company of Dean Wilson
and Brian King. Legend, absolute legend, Old King. He like that.

(04:42):
He listens to this. Yeah, and at last we have
got you on the show. Can you tell the listeners
about your titles as a my tie fighter?

Speaker 9 (04:54):
Yeah, so yeah, I'm always fight young professional. I've had
thirty six fights. If you don't know, it's like you
can kick me elbow like, no protection, just a mouthguard.

Speaker 7 (05:09):
I've got five titles. I've got English.

Speaker 9 (05:12):
I k A in Southern Area and that's how I started,
and then from there I progressed. I've then got the
w b C, which is like seeing as one of
the best. I've got British in that, and I've got International.
I thought the best, like the best girl at the
time for my international one.

Speaker 7 (05:27):
So that was a big win. And I recently won
the i k.

Speaker 9 (05:31):
S World title and I'm fighting for WMO title, the
world title in.

Speaker 7 (05:37):
First plus November.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
And where is that going to be?

Speaker 7 (05:41):
There could have been near Manchester.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Well we might get a bus up.

Speaker 8 (05:45):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Yeah, thanks for that. Wow, you've done Sam, I'll tell you.

Speaker 7 (05:52):
Yeah. Yeah, it's been a mad, mad journey really.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Yeah, stand and talk to you in a minute.

Speaker 10 (06:01):
Yeah, all right, what's your grace? It's staying god Win
here non as the Lioness, it makes me curious how
did you find your way to follow meal Wall? Was
it an option or your destiny? And that's the nickname. Yes,
it exists to meal Wall.

Speaker 7 (06:21):
Yeah, because the Lioness is definitely because of meal Wall.

Speaker 9 (06:25):
And I've also got a Lioness on my shoulder for
meal Wall and I'd love it when it gets called
out to the ring. I think it's a good name anyway,
but obviously just being a mere Wall fan, it just
gives me the extra buzz when I hear it. And
I'm a mere Wall literally because of my dad and
my big brother as well. Obviously coming from South London.
You've only got I feel like youhoul always support a

(06:47):
local team anyway, You've got a choice of a few
around here, but yeah, it's always it's been miror pretty
much like from from a dad and it's either that
or don't like football.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Really, well, we're glad you do. Actually, I think.

Speaker 9 (07:05):
I've been a season ticket holder since I was like,
I don't know, I think eight.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Well, yeah, well we run ask how the.

Speaker 8 (07:16):
Favor is Dave Hart here, Yeah, I'm talk and since
you follow the Lions, who would you say has been
your most outstanding player?

Speaker 7 (07:32):
And why.

Speaker 8 (07:34):
Do you know what?

Speaker 9 (07:35):
It's hard to pick one player. I feel like I've
got a favorite player in each position.

Speaker 8 (07:39):
Probably I know what you're saying.

Speaker 7 (07:42):
My one. If I'm going to give one.

Speaker 9 (07:44):
Outstanding play artist, it's got to be Robo for me,
Paul Robinson. I was a defender and I played a
bit of football as well, and I paid center back.
So I think you do you do gravitate to whoever
plays your position. But for me, Robo obviously captained for years,
came through the youth academy and you could just tell
how much he loved the club when he played, you know,

(08:06):
like he went in one hundred every tackle overhead, every header,
and you could just tell how much he loved the
club and just being at Mural. And obviously he's still
involved now, he's at the coaching staff and I've actually
met him a few times and he's the nicest guy.
He's paid golf with my dad and yeah, he's just
such a nice guy. And I've actually got the boot

(08:29):
from you know, twenty ten when we went up we
believe when we're big swindon the boot where he scored
that goal. We've got one of the boots anyway in
my house in like a big luck frame and a
picture signed by him. So yeah, it's got to be
Robbo for me.

Speaker 8 (08:45):
Oh A good choice. I mean I've met him a
few times, mysel. I hope you've got the boot that
actually touched the ball.

Speaker 7 (08:52):
Yeah, yeah, that's the run.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Well I think that's good.

Speaker 7 (08:59):
Yeah, I'm not selling it either. I don't want anyway.
No one's giving me offers.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Chris before around.

Speaker 11 (09:09):
Oh Grace, it's Steve here.

Speaker 7 (09:11):
Hello you right?

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Hi?

Speaker 11 (09:14):
What do you think of the squad that Alex neils
A messed for the season? Aheat like the potential key
players and we'll get promotion or not.

Speaker 7 (09:23):
The one one is.

Speaker 9 (09:23):
I think Alex Neil has done an amazing jobs since
he's come into me at all. I think he's made
the players believe as well, like, you know, we are
a top side and we should be up there. Every
every interview I see in every time I watch, you know,
like the insights where you see him talking in the
changing rooms. I think he's just got such a good
presence about him. Explains everything so well. And every time

(09:46):
you hear any of the players talking when the little
video goes up, they've all got good stuff to say
about him, and that's not always the case, you know.
And if the players are happy, you just know that
they're gonna play bell. He's made some cracking sign as well,
like this, this, this crucial and kept some crucial players.

Speaker 7 (10:05):
That like tang Ganger. I'm so happy we've kept him.
I really didn't think we was gonna.

Speaker 9 (10:11):
In front of it, and loads of teams were after him,
so I think keeping them two players is massive.

Speaker 7 (10:18):
Tan Ganger and Keeps at the back. I think they
worked together so well, and I.

Speaker 9 (10:21):
Generally think ten Gangle was probably one of the best
defenders in the whole league, so he obviously wanted to
keep playing for alex Neil, That's what I read. So
I think he obviously the players will respect him and
that's a massive thing. But yeah, we've made loads of
great signings.

Speaker 7 (10:36):
I think that our feed class we've kept.

Speaker 9 (10:39):
Obviously got Josh Coben back from me, I'm buzzy that
we've got that Zach sturgeback. Yeah, I think he was
Like I went to Burnley last game in the season
and I actually said to my brother, I'm gutted. He's like,
I don't think we're going to keep like he's not
gonna stay like he's so good. So when we completed
that one, I probably was buzz and I think he's

(11:00):
a great player.

Speaker 7 (11:03):
So yeah, we've got like Feo coming, haven't we.

Speaker 9 (11:05):
Like I'm gutd we've lost Savel, but we've got that
Matimo coming in and he's apparently meant to be class
in a little as a video of him, and he'll
be great to be there when Sable's not there now.
And the young players thought we've got as well. Really,
like when you look at the team like Banging and Williams,
I really rate him. I think he could be a
really good player that Negli as well. I know he

(11:29):
got injured, but I feel like he could Like I'm
excited to watch him as well.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
This year. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (11:37):
Same, I think if he stays injury free, he could
be amazing.

Speaker 9 (11:41):
I haven't seen much of that Grant that we've got,
but all I've done is really good things about him.
And then obviously then we've got that Lovelace Obviously. I
know he hasn't played much, but just got.

Speaker 7 (11:53):
Such a young team as well that have got like
a lot of promise.

Speaker 9 (11:55):
So if I'm honest, I am absolutely buzzing for this season,
and I think it's one the strongest.

Speaker 7 (12:00):
Teams we've had in ages definitely, don't get me wrong.

Speaker 9 (12:04):
And overall me like Mere Wall and I probably do
get a bit carried away, but I think we are
one of the best teams on paper in the league,
and I am getting excited already, and I think we're
going to be up there.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
I think so too. Yeah, Yeah, I think he makes
some really good points there, Grace. It's there's there's a
there's a buzz around it exists, and people are saying,
if you can remember back this far, it's probably nearly
as good as the days when George Graham and the

(12:39):
Doc took over the sides when we did head to
the top flight. Yeah, I feel that way, but we
also all that way.

Speaker 8 (12:49):
I do absolutely.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Yeah. How about you, Stan, do you feel that?

Speaker 12 (12:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (12:56):
I mean, yeah, I mean I do, But I also
think it's a combination of things.

Speaker 10 (13:02):
I mean it's a bit like I mean, all right,
he had already made team when he got there, but
when we had Mark Mark McGee, I mean he come in,
didn't he in? Pair of shaped and didn't and you know,
and he just went The next season just went like
a dream. And it's the same sort of thing, and
you just get these feelings and yeah, I mean, you know,

(13:25):
I I honestly didn't think at one point we would
get Alex Neil as the manager because he's been at
a previous club, put into this argument about who was
going to put by the place. He was insistent that
he was going to do it, and then the club,
I think it was Stoke giving him the right to
do it. And then for whatever reason, it all went
pair of shapes and the elbowed and and when he

(13:51):
when I heard his name was it was in his
name was in the act. I wonder way I was
going to get on with this football directly.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Learned his lessons and I think that's.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
To look at about that brilliant when he was there, and.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
He's doing good job with us as well. Yeah, I'm
glad someone didstated me the other day, turned up when
older Neil Harris wanted to go, we could have actually
got promoted. But there you go. That's the run of
the tribe. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (14:32):
For me, if if you're manager, you've got to be
given for like everything. You can't you can't be a
manager and not be able to make the decision, you
know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Mm hmm, I mean, I agree with you to a point, Grace,
But I think the manager's got so much on their
ends these days, and I'm really pleased he's got Joe
Gallan as the guy who's out there hunting, searching, looking
and finding, because I'm I'm afraid I've got to say

(15:01):
that the guy that was in there prior to Joe,
you know, we we weren't. We weren't getting the right
right players flagged up. But since Joe's turned up, I'm
really amazed with the players that he's been able to
tag and secure but it's it's about working together. If

(15:24):
if Joe and and Alex worked together, and they must
because one will know what they want and the other
one will say, right, I've got X, Y and Z.
But I didn't think that worked under Neil and Steve.
But I think I think they're They're looking good now.
Now look, time's flying by and it's been so exciting.

(15:47):
But before you go, we have Ted's predictionary. Well Ted's
not with us tonight, but his partner Davies, so we
need you to share your forecasts the three championship scores.
At the end of the season, we'll discovers well worked
out to be the best score predicting skilled person among

(16:10):
guests and hosts, and there will be a prize. So
I'm going to end you over to Dave, who's the
man that knows what it's all about. Over to Dave.

Speaker 8 (16:21):
Okay, great, yep, big big Boss, step into our first
guest over last season actually won this league. Yeah that's
so it's last year. So I'll give you the first
game to predict on and it's Norwedge against Millwall.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
One two one.

Speaker 8 (16:44):
Yeah, I'll say that, and then we've got our powers
up the road chart and against Watford.

Speaker 7 (16:53):
I'm going what for to nil good?

Speaker 8 (17:00):
Then one is a bit outside Southampton, Rickxon, Oh, I
am going to go to all draw good shout there. Okay,
So so thanks to throws.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Magic stuff, and thank you for being on the show.
Grace truly, Pa truly has been a pleasure hearing your
story and thoughts about Millwall. And we wish you and
yours dad and brother and all the others to take
care and let's chat again before the season ends, and
maybe I'll see you up in the exact lands. You

(17:38):
never know. Sometimes that'shat with old king out there. So
there you go, lovely, thank you.

Speaker 11 (17:52):
Bye Grace, and.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Stand and say goodbye. Heres were in a minute, but anyway,
we didn't we didn't hear Grace take care you well.
Grace is a bundle of fan bless her. Yeah. Yeah,
So what we're going to do now as we're going

(18:15):
to listen to Bethany Mantel, who's going to talk about well,
I think one of Stand's best mates. Actually.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Before Millwall's first home game on August the sixteenth, Mike George,
a guide on the Isle of Dogs, millill History Tours,
will introduce his book Discovering the history of Millll Football
Club at the Millwell Community Trust's Lion Center on Billina
Road starting from midday. Everyone who buys a signed copy
will be supporting a great cause as a donation will

(18:46):
be made to the Millll Community Trust with each purchase.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
I'm your host, Aman bark with me. I have no
one likes us talking team of staying at Godwin, Dave
Hart and Steve Warren. The Lions Center that berstanly refer
to is the welcoming hub for the middle Community Trust.
And then she said, located Berlina Road, just a short
fifty yard walk from the club shop, it's the perfect

(19:11):
place to relax, enjoy something delicious food at reasonable prices,
and don't miss out on the exciting launch of Mike
George's book happening there too at that first home game
of the season. Get there from midday on. It's going
to be well worth it, So I'm to believe there

(19:36):
ordered it. Yeah, I don't know if your book will
be there stand, but I think we can ask him
and maybe he'll be able to tell us how it's
going to You can get it because if you're there,
you'll get it signed as well, which is a bonus.
You might want to see what goes.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
I mean originally when you when I ordered it, you you,
not just me, but anybody that did them. This was
some months ago made the postage as well.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
That's right, and you haven't got it yet. No, it hasn't.
It hasn't come off. The hasn't come off. The racket.
I know the truth. So you'll see. You can bring
him and say I'll see you on the day and
do that and you'll pay you the postage back, no doubt. Anyway,
let's let's listen to Elis.

Speaker 13 (20:27):
Hello Elisa, and I'm glad to be back talking about Merwell.
I know many have watched my videos. Thanks for your
support along the way. It is now time to hear
what all the Merwell teams are up to.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Come on therewell Well, come on Millwall is and in
all its forms and well variations. And first along the
line for that is Paul Oadine, who brings us the
Millwell Romans and Pride update. Well that exciting time. Let's
listen to Paul.

Speaker 4 (21:02):
Hi, it's Paul owning at the Millwall Romans. I hope
everyone's had a great summer and looking forward to the
new season. A bit of an update from us. The
Romans had a historic moment over the summer where we
went to the Euro Games in Leon a couple of
weeks ago. We took a team of twenty as a
maximum squad that we could take out there. The team

(21:25):
performed really really well, Really pleased that how everyone got on.
We played some really really good football, considering it's sort
of quite early on in the preseason. We had quite
a difficult group to get through. Managed to win our
first game. Then we had the Stonewall first team, which
is they're a very very good team playing the Middlesex
County and unfortunately we did loose to them the next morning.

(21:49):
On the Thursday. On the Friday sorry, we faced Titans London.
Titans managed to beat them quite comfortably and then played
a parish team in the afternoon, again very very skillful team,
but managed to beat them to get through to the semifinals.
Unfortunately for us it wasn't going to be our year.

(22:09):
We faced the dreaded Mersey who we went out to
in the semi final of the GFSN Cup. The guy's
put on a really very valiant display, took them all
the way to penalties and fortunately our penalties were not
good enough. We had a third place playoff against the
Titans managed to beat them so we came home with
the bronze medal. It was the Euro Games. Teams from

(22:33):
across Europe were visiting in all different sports, Tennis, volleyball,
all different sports were there. It was great for the
LGBT community to get together and socialized, but really really
happy with how it went as a historic historic for
the club's history. We've never ever been away on tour
and it's massive thanks to the community Trust and our sponsors,

(22:55):
the Romans that have allowed us to do that. Both
teams are in action against our friends at AFC Marsmore Hill.
AFC Mustle Hill used to be in the league and
they've got two teams now, our first team and a
Vet's team. Romans are kicking off at one o'clock against
the first team and then Pride following closely afterwards at
half past three against the Vets team. First our first

(23:18):
preseason game of the year, with further games hopefully to
follow in the coming weeks. We've managed to get a
buy in the gfcn Cup in the preliminary rounds which
are held at the end of this month. We've managed
to skip that and go straight into the first round,
which we are hosting Bristol, which will be played around

(23:38):
the end of September stroke early October. We have played
Bristol before. We're quite confident this year and the Cup.
So that's a good, really really good draw for us.
And this week's predictions Norwich Millwall. I'm going to say
mill WI are going to nick that one nil for
Charlton Watford. I really don't want to see Charlton win,

(24:01):
so I'm going to say it's Watford.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
What for three nil?

Speaker 4 (24:05):
I'm going to say a Southampton Rexam Southampton. I think, well,
I think that's going to be a drawer. Actually it's
going to be I'm going to go one all draw.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Yeah. So the Romans been busy out in lyon third place.
Sound a bit like Spain there, really didn't. They won
the World Cup in South America and then come back
and come third in the European tournament. But I'm sure
they'll They'll perform well throughout this season and they've got

(24:35):
such a squad covering two teams, it's amazing. So the
Lionesses have made ten new signings, they had a they've
had a pre season of wins so far, and they
even emulated those other Lionesses in their last game by

(24:57):
coming back from behind and winning. Huh. Now, this season
starts at Ashford Town on the seventeenth of August, but
they have got a friendly over at Chatham Town where
they're one of their former managers, mister Bonus, is in charge,
so it will be an interesting one for them right.

(25:21):
Andy Petman, one of our new team members, brings us
news of the open training day at the Den from
the last Monday.

Speaker 14 (25:31):
On Monday, the club hosted its annual open training session
at the Den. With my two kids in tow, we
headed down to check it out. So here's a quick
update on what happened. We've been to a few of
these over the years under Neil Harris Gary Rauitt and
every time it's been a fantastic experience, not just for
the kids, but I think the adults have been enjoying
it too. This year it didn't disappoint. The kids had

(25:55):
an amazing time smiles from ear to ear. They managed
to snap photos with almost all of the entire squad
and credit to the players, they were absolutely top class.
Signing shirts posing for selfies, chatting with everyone. They were
just brilliant with the fans, even when the questions got
a little bit tricky. At one point, my six year
old son told Ivanovitch very seriously that he had to

(26:19):
score against Charlton in September, so no pressure there, my Hilo.
Then my eleven year old put alex Neil on the
spot asking where he fought would finish this season instead,
though the manager flipped it back and ask him instead,
and my son, well, he didn't miss a beat. I'll
be happy with the playoffs, which alex Neil then laughed off.

(26:40):
All in all of the cracking morning, loads of laughs,
lots of memories and a real reminder of the strong
bond between the teams and the fans. If the season
ahead is anything like this day, we're in for a
good season.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Well that seems to me. The feeling all round the
place and the players have ambition, and ambition can bring
the best out of a team anyway. With the excitement
building as we prepare to face Norwedge this Saturday at
three pm Atcarrow Road in our first game in the

(27:15):
Championship this season, well for me, the film book is
frown out the window doesn't exist. Both teams have recruited well,
including a new manager for the Canaries. It's been nineteen
sixty eight since we last won there and Stan who
wasn't in that team in nineteen sixty eight that we

(27:36):
thought someone thought who it was?

Speaker 3 (27:41):
Oh, I forget now.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
I mean we won't go through the numbers, but some
of our some of our team thought someone else was
playing on that side. But that's not the case. So anyway,
on the bookies front, Norwidge or evens to win a
drawer is not four and the mill will win is
five to two, not the odds I expected. So what

(28:05):
do you all think? Are we hoping for a positive
result or could it go another way? Well, once again
I'll hand this over to the other man in Ted's
prediction League, Over to you, Dave.

Speaker 8 (28:19):
Okay, thanks, Amen, right, I'll ask you your prediction for
this game Noise against Millwall.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
Amen right. My prediction is one two one two, And.

Speaker 8 (28:33):
Steve, what's yours?

Speaker 11 (28:35):
I think it's going to We're going to nick it
one nil.

Speaker 8 (28:41):
As saying.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
I'll Shay three one the mill Wall three.

Speaker 8 (28:47):
That's a nice tasty score and I'll go with I'll
go with a one two. How do you think the
other two games are going to go? I'll ask stand
first Charn Watford.

Speaker 3 (29:06):
I reckon that'll probably be be a drawer. I mean
say two all two okay, Steve.

Speaker 11 (29:16):
I think that's going to be free Neil to Watford.

Speaker 8 (29:19):
Three, nail to Watford. Amen for me?

Speaker 15 (29:25):
Oh that.

Speaker 8 (29:28):
I suppose I chipping with Hm.

Speaker 2 (29:33):
I'll go one three one three.

Speaker 8 (29:38):
Okay, And that leaves uh huh Southampton Wreckham. So I'll
ask Steve, do you think.

Speaker 11 (29:50):
I think that's going to be two one to Southampton.

Speaker 8 (29:53):
Two one and stand okay?

Speaker 3 (29:58):
Well, I yeah, I mean I would say free one
with Jaffampton three.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
One five three five three. It's going to be a
big scoring game. Both sides are going to go for it,
and I can see that being a cracker as they.

Speaker 11 (30:19):
Say Kevin Keegan managing both signs.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
Probably yes, well.

Speaker 8 (30:25):
I'm going to go for a Southampton through one okay.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
And that concludes the voting of the panel. Davey, thank
you very much, and we thank you Dave for what
Colley in all of the results and the great job
that I've done in the past and the great job
that you'll do in the future. So thank you. Our
second guest is famed for his Facebook site Millall and Sicily,

(30:56):
and he's heavily weighted conversations with Ted Robinson about the
Prediction League. Well, let's welcome the man who wanted to
go to mansies around the world if he had won
the Prediction League last season. Yes, it's Nick Wide Nick.

Speaker 16 (31:14):
Hello, Hello to you, Hello everybody.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
Hello there. That's good. You've done well there. You've got
quicker responses than Grace Spicer did because she was on
on before you. But anyway, that's a that's a bonus
that she's very interesting young woman. Anyhow, Stratchavy join us.
As I said, it must have been disappointing not to

(31:45):
have topped the Prediction League last season. Has it left
you with a resolution for this season?

Speaker 16 (31:52):
So that's the lasty taste in my mouth. I'll tell
you that.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Oh yeah, no pine match, no.

Speaker 16 (31:57):
Pie match here.

Speaker 17 (31:59):
I'm determined, assuming that Ted's going to be running it again,
I'm determined to.

Speaker 16 (32:04):
Do better this season.

Speaker 2 (32:06):
Well determination is nearly as good as I suppose having
the apatoire to have my mansis pie. So exactly, I
think those two work together for me, And yeah, I
look forward to it to the team now, thanks Nick. Yeah, okay,
it's Steve. Hello Steve, Hi.

Speaker 11 (32:29):
You must be delighted with the TV coverage of Millbow
as an overseas fan, has it been more bearable with excess,
with the excess that it's given.

Speaker 16 (32:38):
To be honest with you, where Millwall are playing live?

Speaker 17 (32:41):
I don't watch the beginning because historically, historically Millwell don't
do well when I watch them live.

Speaker 16 (32:49):
I was bravery last season.

Speaker 17 (32:50):
I did see a few games live and I think
they quite sure they won more than they lost. Yeah,
for memory, they did, but historically and my brothers Aim
actually neither one of us will watch it live because
it just gives them bad luck as far as I'm concerned.
But no, the coverage is improved here in Sicily, There's no.

Speaker 16 (33:09):
Question about it.

Speaker 17 (33:09):
So I do get to see them, but apart from
when I'm in England and I'll be watching a game
there at Christmas, for example.

Speaker 16 (33:17):
But yeah, no, I'm.

Speaker 17 (33:18):
Happy that they are more more frequent on the TV
and whatever on the laptop. Yeah, I'm happy with that.

Speaker 11 (33:25):
And I suppose you can use the app as well,
because if you don't and to watch it live, you
can still see full coverage on the on the app.

Speaker 16 (33:31):
That's right.

Speaker 17 (33:32):
Yeah, what I sometimes do when it's not on obviously,
I'll watch I'll watch a ticker taper.

Speaker 16 (33:36):
I'll go on to one of the apps and get
the live scores.

Speaker 17 (33:39):
Literally, I tend to travel is when meal were playing
at the same time as everybody else, I tend to
flick up and down and see how everybody else is
doing and work out the league tables, misself and the
head and all that kind of thing, especially when the
last game of the season last year at Burnley, which
you know, yeah, sort of a happy, happy and sad,
sad and happy, and it just continues like that. So

(34:02):
I'm looking forward to the first game of the season
because at least we haven't got that problem. So we
lose or draw, well, I think they're going to win actually,
but it's just an opinion.

Speaker 10 (34:16):
Stay goodwin in Nick, why have you made of the
what have you made of the acquisitions Alex new has
made today? And do you think that this side has
the potential to match up match the team that Dockety
managed and gained promotion to the top flight.

Speaker 17 (34:35):
Well that's an interesting question because I was actually, you know,
I'm old enough to remember Docerty and being down the
Old Den and watching that that was a blinding team.
This team, I think my manory has been what six
that went, you know, Hutchinson, Wallace and all that lot.
And we've brought six in, haven't we. I'm really impressed
with the signings that we've made. I think this new

(34:57):
policy that MIWA are implementing to bring in younger players traditionally,
apart from Luongo, I mean, but everybody else is in
the young twenties, aren't they so? And Dowty especially, I
was really happy to get him because I've seen him
play and he's going to be tremendous Millwall player.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
He really is.

Speaker 17 (35:14):
I think that if Millwall's two strikers, if he can
hang on to Ivanovich, I think that if Coburn stays
injury free, I think those two will score enough goals
to get Millwall certainly in the top six. I'd have
to see them play a few games, maybe halfway through
the season, to compare them to Doherty's team, which is

(35:35):
probably the best Millwall team I've ever seen, you know, Sharingham,
Cascarino upfront, et cetera, et cetera. But I mean, I'm
very optimistic for the coming season. I think we do
have the squad if they can stay injury free, and
I certainly think that we'll finish in the top six,
and I'm optimistic that we can get promoted.

Speaker 16 (35:53):
I really am.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Hi.

Speaker 8 (35:55):
I need to stay heart here.

Speaker 16 (35:57):
Hello, Dave.

Speaker 8 (35:59):
Yeah you good?

Speaker 16 (36:01):
Yeah, I'm good. Thank you very good?

Speaker 8 (36:03):
Good? Right? Who do you think will be key players
in the season ahead? And what do you think of
the ever increasing news of substitutes from sixty minutes into
the game.

Speaker 17 (36:18):
Well, I think the important players for us are clearly
going to be the two strikers Ivanovich and Coburn. I'm
very keen to see Doughty and Disease down that left
dan flank because in pre season they looked very, very useful. Indeed,
the right hand side, if he's going to play Kramer
instead of Leonard, then I want to assume that Nelly's

(36:41):
going to Negli or whatever his name is, He's going
to be on that right hand side. I don't think
that's as strong as a left hand side, but I
hope I'm proved wrong with that. The subs Yeah, sixty minutes,
I mean I think that you know, depending on how
the game is going, I mean, I think the bench
this season is going to be a lot stronger than
what it was last season, because I think in every

(37:02):
position that we've got there, we've got some serious competition
for the places. And I think the only exception to
that would be Cooper's position at the left foot center
half position, but and the right back position. You know,
with Kramer Ryan Lenard is a bit injury prone. I
personally would put Leonard there, but then you know he
hasn't played much preseason. Some one assumes he's going to

(37:23):
start with Kramer. I think the subs, obviously, they make
a big difference when they come on, whether we're winning
and losing or drawing or what he wants to get
out of the game. But certainly the substitutes are going
to be a lot stronger, and I think it does
give him, you know, more options this season, and certainly
he had last season. So again, I think the squad
is really really strong. You could argue he needs a

(37:44):
couple of more players, maybe a midfielder. The only problem
that I've really got is the backups to Ivanovitch and Koba,
And I mean, who do you have and there's bits
injured and we don't know what he's going to be doing.
Is he good enough at the championship level. And we
got lang Staff who didn't do well last season, but
then he hit a hat trick in the friendly a
week or so ago, so be interesting to see. And

(38:06):
also the players I haven't really seen yet, the likes
of Louve Blace and Kelly, I mean, I'm looking forward
to seeing them because they apparently are very very promising,
Plus the ones coming up from the under twenty one.

Speaker 16 (38:17):
Squad of course, so I think it all goes well
for a very good season.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (38:22):
I've got to agree with you on a lot of those,
a lot of those positions and comments, And personally I've
got this thing about the second season that a player
as with us being better than the first improved. Wrong
on that, But most of the time you get a
better judge of our players going to settle in. So
let's yea, these these players that you mentioned they were

(38:43):
injured and had a bit of a bad best big
goal last year, will improve.

Speaker 17 (38:49):
Yeah, And I think they will because I think, you know,
someone does get injured or is out of form, we
now have the capability of bringing somebody in. You know,
if Kramer gets injured, and you've got Ryan Leonard and
it down he gets injured, for example, you could put
Brian in there, and so on and so on and
so on. So I mean, the only two issues were
the other two strikers. Have they got quality behind them

(39:10):
if one of them gets injured or sold for that man,
God forbid.

Speaker 2 (39:14):
Yeah, it was interesting you you said about Lang starving
his three goals the other night. Yeah. I had an
interesting conversation with Brian King about that and Jeff. Jeff
said that Mille were playing out of there sucks down
at Sutton and I said, Jeff, so what league are

(39:38):
Suttn in? Can you tell me anyway? Well, well, it's
not about what league there And they scored goals and
they scored plenty, And I said, yeah, but when you're
talking to a national league side, wouldn't our expectations be
that anyway? And Brian King was in the same same
frame of mind. He said, no, come on, let's get

(39:59):
real here. Sutny United that they could have blown it
again last year, so let's not get excited about games
like that. But generally speaking, and that last game that
we saw at the then last weekend, I thought that
that was a really class class act. And I noticed

(40:23):
Portuguese Premiership which is not probably the best premiership league
in Europe. But no, there you go.

Speaker 17 (40:32):
Yeah, the thing but the preseason friendly is it always
amazes me. I know they went to Spain for the
week and everything. Yeah, well, I mean to Traditionally be
Able's preseason friendlies are like Bromley wedding. Now it's sudden
because of the Steve Morrison connection. I mean, you know,
I don't think they are strong enough opposition preseason.

Speaker 16 (40:49):
I really don't. I'm not suggesting we can get Man
in either Liverpool down there, but I think we can
do better.

Speaker 2 (40:55):
Yeah, I think we'll see more of a broad rather
than we'll see more of people in the English leagues
coming down. It's an expensive hobby for friendlies when you
start to face a police bill. So there you go. Anyway,
that's been great, good conversation there and now great predictions.

(41:19):
Well thank you for coming on the show, Nick, been
fascinating listening to you. But here we go. The championship
games for this weekend. There's three of them. We'll come
together to see the results and find out who Among
amounts our amazing guest, and I'm expecting you to be

(41:39):
one of those host panel and regular supporters will be
the best score predictor of the season. So I'm going
to pass you over to Ted's buddy in all of this,
Dave Hart and Dave Away.

Speaker 18 (41:55):
You go.

Speaker 8 (41:57):
Thanks, Nick. Last season was a bit of a close
thing at the end, so let's just hope this season
is going to be a better one for you. So
I'll start with the first name is obviously our Lions
away to Norwich, and your prediction.

Speaker 16 (42:17):
Is Norwige one mile or two.

Speaker 4 (42:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (42:22):
I think that's because everyone can predict the same score
as this season, so it's changed slightly, so that's I
think that's quite a popular choice. The second game, obviously
is a local one again Charlton against Watford.

Speaker 17 (42:38):
I think Charlton are going to get found out there,
so I'm saying Charlton neil Watford two.

Speaker 8 (42:44):
Yeah, I'll turn that. And of course this one is
a bit of both Southampton against Wrexham. Yeah.

Speaker 17 (42:52):
I'm not a big fan of Wrexham. I actually hope
they get relegated, but I'm sure they won't, but I
think Southampton would beat them, so I'm going to say
Southampton two rex On one.

Speaker 8 (43:02):
Lovely. Thank you Nick.

Speaker 2 (43:05):
And that ends the predictions from Nick Whieth. Thank you Nick.
As I said, thank you for coming on the show.
It's been fascinating listening to your thoughts and Lee look
forward to you joining us again, certainly in this season
and sending in your weekly audio predictions for the show,

(43:25):
which we are very grateful for. And last but not least,
all the best to you and yours and I say
bye now.

Speaker 16 (43:34):
Thanks very much and bye bye, Thanks Nick, bye, bye bye.

Speaker 2 (43:42):
Well lovely to hear from Nick Wire. Very good. We're
going to take a break down here from Phil Coleman.
Some of you may or may not know this, but
if you've noticed the advert for the book that's being
brought out by Mike George, the writer of the foreword

(44:02):
is in fact a Phil Coleman and this is what
he has to say.

Speaker 16 (44:08):
Hi, Phil Coleman.

Speaker 8 (44:09):
Here.

Speaker 16 (44:10):
Middle Football Club since ten eighty five was at.

Speaker 18 (44:13):
A remarkable history, sometimes not so good, from its starting
point on the Isle of Dogs, before moving south of
the Thames to the old dend in Cole Blow Lane,
then to its current location in Southeast sixteen.

Speaker 16 (44:24):
The club has seen.

Speaker 18 (44:25):
Many moves from its original ground location, but the club's
history and tradition survived to this day and are regularly celebrated.
The stands at the New Den reflect that history with
the Cole Blow Lane end with barrikitchen the Stand and
the Dockers Stand. Special days like the annual Dockers Days
celebrate the history of the club with former players, former
teams and former Dockers attending designated fixes docs back in

(44:46):
eighteen eighty five and up to recent times with the
lifeblood of the club. My great grandparents and grandparents were
born and raised on the Isle of Dogs where the
club originated, and they moved to Wallingch where I was born,
so myself and Ami as much in common with the club.
As a fan from the early seventies, I've owned history
with a club. I was fortunate enough to grow through
the ranks from a schoolboy to the youth team, to

(45:09):
the reserves and the first team. In that time I
won the FA Youth Cup, made my debut beating the
old enemy west Ham, playing alongside club legends like Barry
Kitchener before being in the team that won promotion to
Division One. Also playing alongside my brother and other great
teammates and under coaches and managers along the way.

Speaker 16 (45:26):
As a player.

Speaker 18 (45:27):
In nineteen eighty six, I had the honor to attend
the club' one hundredth birthday celebration Mill and more recently
I walked to the Walk, or its proper name, the
mill Will Heritage and History Tour on the Island Dogs.
I did it alongside Mike George and Rob Woodford and
a brilliant group of supporters, many of I know, many
I knew for years. The tour covered the site's grounds,

(45:49):
history of the club from its inception eighteen eighty five
up to when it moved to South of the River.
I learned a heck of a lot about the club's
history and how it was formed, who formed it, the
original players and foun the ground locations, their successes, and
how the club was run, as well as visiting the
area where my family originated. Mike and Rob do an
amazing job on the tour, and now they've got their

(46:10):
book out Walk in the Walk. Their book is out
from sixteenth of August and as a must for all
you Lines fans. You can pick up a copy from
the community reception before the game against Miners Bron the
sixteenths or recommend it it'll be a great read. Wishing
the club and fans more success and creating more history.

Speaker 2 (46:29):
Bye for now, Thanks philm I'm your host Samy barklay
with me as and no one likes as talking team
of a stand Godwin, Dave Hart and Steve Warren. So,
if you're attending the den on launch day at the
Milk Community Trust building and that's where the Community Center is,

(46:49):
books can be bought from midday only with cash or
an immediate bank transfer. Now as standpoints it out, if
you have perhaps ordered a book, you might be able
to find out by speaking with Mike if you could
actually receive that book at the mill Community Trust reception

(47:14):
area on that day. Have a cup of tea while
you're there, are a sandwich quite nice actually. Anyway, we're
looking forward to the next game, but in the meantime
there are a few matters of interest for Millill fans
and those that are generally interested in football any many
different ways. Stand are you there?

Speaker 1 (47:37):
Oh?

Speaker 16 (47:37):
Yeah, yeah, I mean I'm right.

Speaker 11 (47:39):
Sorry, How were you waiting for me?

Speaker 2 (47:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (47:41):
So no, I was in your so carried away right, Okay,

bit there will be a Friday podcast show freeturing me
