Speaker 4 (00:38):
Well, it was a bad day at the then on
Saturday through Neil defeat to Middlesbrough. Anyway, we'll talk about
that later. We will also talk about mill Community Trusts
Tim selves who passed away this week, where we reflect
on his contribution. First off, and let's hear from our

Well, I'm your host, Amon Barklay and with me I ever,
no one likes us talking to Debbie Julians, Ted Robinson
and Dave Hart. Many thanks to our sponsor GNM Motors.
Why not check the Hondas out and see what else
they have on site at Graves End. Well a true
man for all seasons, especially here at the den. His
(03:17):
soothing tones beautifully capture all the match day action. Let's
formally welcome the voice of Millwell. I follow the familiar
and comforting sound we've known for a good while. Now, Hello,
Carl Bates.
Speaker 8 (03:32):
That always your wonderful introduction for me. It makes me
embarrassed every time, but pleasure to be on book.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Well, that's lovely, but you're starting to sound like a
dalek for some unknown reason. We'll see how that goes. Anyway, Carl,
it is lovely to see you. They might even say hello.
I have to prompt him every time, but they do
do that. Carl, Debbie's louder than fit. Now. We're so
(04:01):
happy to have you back on the show. It's still
too soon to say what our promotion prospects are, but
after a fantastic win at Norwidge and then facing a
tough lost to Middlesborough, it really shows how quickly things
can change. Were you surprised as we were by the
turn of events last Saturday.
Speaker 8 (04:24):
Yeah, especially after the first quarter of an hour twenty minutes.
Middlesbrough couldn't get out of their half. Millwall just didn't
let them breathe. We created chances down the flanks. A
couple of balls in probably could have been better. We
had Casper's shot cleared off the line. We had some
Negley but formation slightly went almost in midfield. Mean, when
(04:48):
we've played Plymouth before, Morgan wits be almost getting chalk
on his boots on the right and then he'd came
onto his left foot. But the two win guns causing problems,
especially Sylvia are down the left before he was excellent
caused a lot of it was almost roles reversal. When
we were at Norwich it was our two fallbacks causing
(05:10):
their wing backs all sorts of problems, but unfortunately it
ended up the other way around and once they got
to grips of us going into the second half. Yes,
we had chances, but I think Middlesbury deserved well.
Speaker 9 (05:21):
I think three and.
Speaker 8 (05:21):
All maybe flattered them a bit, but I think they
definitely deserve to win SILVERA was.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
A class apart when he a thought, Really, Carl, he
really merely made a difference for them. As your friend
Brian said, we need to sort him out. I mean
I thought that was a real committed statement. But anyway,
that was then and this is now. So thanks for that.
Speaker 10 (05:50):
Hi, Carl. It's so hot here. It's great to hear
you back on the air waves. We had an exciting
Carabo Cup tie with Newpool County is to make it
through through faced Coventry and the day next week. Coventry
showed incredible resilience last weekend in the league as the
(06:10):
comeback kings. What are your thoughts ahead of that match.
Speaker 8 (06:15):
It's a really tough one, Dave, because it depends on
what sort of sides both teams put out. I mean,
we saw a lot of changes by I think everybody
across the board for the first round, so if they
decide to go toe for toe, I'd fancy Millwall's chances
in all honesty, I think at home. But if say
mill will only make two or three changes, Proventry don't
(06:38):
make any or some team makes six, so it's really
really hard to judge.
Speaker 11 (06:43):
I think.
Speaker 8 (06:43):
One of the things that stuck with me over the
years covering Millwall is if we're at home in a
cup game, the ground's only half full, say because people
are expecting changes, or it's not the biggest pull like
another championship side. We do tend to if we are
going to progress. An early goal or a strong side
would definitely not much of an atmosphere. The game's drifting,
(07:06):
then I'd fancy maybe Coventry to get through. But as
I say, I'm hopeful, and we've got a strong squad now,
not just a strong side, so that you know it's
not going to be too detrimental to our chances if
they do make a few changes.
Speaker 11 (07:21):
Yeah, nothing, It's all right there, carlstad Here this first
bit you can tell that it's wasn't written by me,
but you'll understand and I'll get to the end of
reading it. I aim and mentioned that Sean Day that
I've already begun my preparation for minial communities trust centers Dash.
(07:42):
I've been thinking about it lately and I've decided i'd
definitely do it this year. I'm hoping to find a
partner around my age to join me. Would you like
to be my team mate?
Speaker 8 (07:52):
How old is one?
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Ted?
Speaker 11 (07:57):
Age?
Speaker 8 (07:57):
But I was just listening to the first undecided, I'm
deeply offended and I should.
Speaker 11 (08:06):
And I know you're younger than mood that's.
Speaker 8 (08:09):
Yeah, and the feelings mutual going the other way with
younger and let's change that word for older.
Speaker 11 (08:18):
As over there for a minute or looking ahead? Do
you think the acquisitions we've made during the off season
could really boost their chances in the championship race? And
I'd like to get your fault so on this as
well as a supplementary question, Carl, do you think like
I do, that the transfer window should shut before the
(08:40):
opening game of the season.
Speaker 8 (08:43):
I agree, totally. Actually put a post up on Twitter
or x whatever mister Musk wants to call it, saying
exactly that it's fascical in all honesty that a transfer
window if they're going to have a tin me back
in the good old days. You just be I don't know,
getting on with your day and suddenly breaking news your
team signed X, Y and Z, and that would happen.
(09:03):
But if you're going to have a designated window, how
can you start the season? You put all your work
in beforehand, that like millw for example, going to Spain,
doing this, doing that. You spend all of that time
the managers, work with the players, he's got everything sorted out.
Suddenly a bid comes in and unfortunately it's too good
for the club to turn down and you lose certain
(09:24):
players or you're trying to get hold of a player
player that's in places for that position to thinking will
hang on a second, is this going on? Do I
need my agent to start looking for another club because
this person's going to come in and take my And
this is happening while this game's going on. You know,
there could be a game coming up at the weekend,
or there could be a game next week, and you've
got no idea what's happening. And suddenly, right at the
end of a transfer window, you lose one or two
(09:46):
key players and then the window shuts sorry boom, and
then the pressure and the worst thing about is the
pressures then all suddenly starts struggling because I don't know,
look esak where he does go in Liverpool in the end,
where does that leave Nuke. Well, they're scratching around for
a striker for them, so it's chaos and it shouldn't
be that way. Yeah, we've still got a week of
madness to go, so no, I totally agree on on
(10:09):
the part I think it's just silly.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
It really is.
Speaker 8 (10:15):
In regards being your teammate running around. Yeah, because I
am not the fittest forty nine year old in the world.
So if me and you go around together, Ted, we
can give each other CPR at various points during I
think ash inverted commers.
Speaker 11 (10:35):
Have to change that word. I think it won't be
a dash and strong sounds better than me.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
I really love to get a picture of you too,
with staying in your center outfits. I think you'd look lovely. Yeah,
it would be.
Speaker 8 (10:52):
Yeah, yeah, no, No, then yet, I'm sure we can
have a wonder I mean, dash round, There'll be no problem.
Was there any other questions in that I can't remember.
Speaker 11 (11:06):
The acquisitions we've made during the off season could really
boast their challenges in the championship and the people we've signed.
Speaker 8 (11:14):
Yeah, again, a lot depends on the window, if there's
anybody else coming in, anybody leave in, etc. But the
good thing is, as I mentioned earlier on with the
Coventry game, is it is the genuine strength and depth.
I think it's something that we haven't had. In addition
for places that the manager can look on the bench
and think I have got a game changer here. I'm
(11:34):
not just changing that position due to fatigue. I'm changing
that tactically because I feel this will make a difference
against Norwich. He wait until probably quarter of an hour
so to go. Millwall were on top again looking to
get that killer second. Sure enough lang stuff comes on.
He's the type of player that makes those runs in behind.
He did exactly that and that made a big difference.
(11:54):
So I think when we were successful with Zian and
Bradders up top, mill were very heavily reliant on those two.
There wasn't that extra option. I mean even now Milwill
can just tweak the formation, perhaps bring on the likes
of Akundle who can play in behind one, or bangor
or Williams can come inside and then maybe push somebody
else out wide. There's plenty of options. So, and also
(12:18):
you know at the backsack Sturge, I think that's a
great little sign will grow into the shirt a bit
like as Zi's did. When Femi came in it was
slightly or I don't know if he's going to be
able to make that step up. And then last season
he was fantastic towards the end, and I think Sturge
will do the same. So no, I think it's been
a good window so far.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
Shall we say so far?
Speaker 12 (12:41):
Hi?
Speaker 7 (12:41):
Carl is Debbie Julian's here. I really enjoyed you seeing
to your soothing tones and your chat with Brian Horn
last Saturday. It was lovely.
Speaker 11 (12:51):
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (12:52):
Both complimented each other wonderfully. Actually, the different opinions you
shared really gave me something to think about. Is Brian
now your regular sidekick? And what about Max and Tony Craig?
Will you be joining you in the future.
Speaker 8 (13:09):
Again, predominantly for home games it will be Brian. He
does a lot of work behind the scenes for people
that have come along. On the day he'll be interviewing,
and then after the game, I think he does a
bit with the man of the match, so he's around,
he'll come up and sit with me for away games.
I think it'll be a bit of everything. Depends where
(13:31):
we're playing, depends who's available. Max, as we know, is
a more than adequate sidekick for me. We get on
very well on and off the microphone, which I think
is a good thing. We've even had Mark Lichfield has
stepped in a few times pre season. He's picked up
the microphone, ran with it, not in the literal sense,
and has been was really really, really good. So again
we've got a strong squad. It's a bit like the team.
(13:52):
We've had a good window and we've brought in extras
and yeah, no, no, there will be as I said,
predominantly Brian at home, but on the road, could be
any one of the ones you've mentioned.
Speaker 7 (14:03):
Yeah, very good listening, It was great, It was very good.
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Well that's nice, isn't it. Carl. You're lucky Jeff Burnage
is not on tonight. It would be envious of you
in a different way this time. Anyway. Look, Carl, I
mean there's some great stuff going on. As the changes
upstairs affected you in any way in the sort of
(14:31):
new lounge arrangements, is that impacted you and how you
get your bother reel and stuff like that.
Speaker 8 (14:38):
I only get that on my way tracks. But no,
it looks really really nice behind the scenes. I must
admit it's very modernized. It's really really good. I was
very impressed having a wander around. I know they were
working very hardly opened up for the game against Middlesbrough
and yeah, the media room's changed slightly for anybody that's
been in there before. The interview room for the managers
(15:02):
has now been changed. That now comes into the corner
of the media room itself and the guys that work
in the media team, like Max Mark et cetera. They've
now moved down to the training ground, which makes more
sense in all honestly, because then during the week they
need to interview players, get some photos, et cetera, they
can instead of being based at the den and having
(15:24):
to travel down all the time, so they just hot
desk from upstairs on match days. So no, it's it's
a long time incoming.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
But yeah, it's really really good, good interesting to hear,
great stuff. Anyway, before we say Ari Verderci, we do
have Ted's prediction League and of course he's here tonight,
so you can feel quite elated to be in his
presence and share your forecast for three championship scores. At
(15:58):
the end of the season, we'll just over who has
the best scoring skills and a must guest hosts and
whoever else and Ted has got a special prize, so
I'll let Ted explain what the special prize is. It
might be a Santa's outfit, but I'm not quite sure.
But over to you, Ted, I've got Terry Amen.
Speaker 11 (16:18):
It's always a pleasure for me to be in my presence,
so so it's one. Here we go. This is obviously
our weekly thing and always start with a beloved Lions,
A tricky one because they haven't done anything so far
this season, Sheffield United. I'd have been far happier if
they won or something last week, but of course it's
(16:39):
Sheffeld United home to our Millwall. How'd you see you go?
Speaker 4 (16:43):
Mate?
Speaker 8 (16:45):
Actually, I was just doing my research before I came
on there and we've got a good record there. In
the last ten games we've won. In the last ten
games thinks, over the last twenty years we have won four,
drawn for and lost two, so we've had this. When
it comes to happy hunting round, Sheffel Gernard is one
of them. We've had some great wins there, but I'm
going to sit on the proverbi. I'm going to go
(17:07):
for a one one. I don't think we'll be beaten
and so yeah, I'm going to go straight down the
middle of the one or drawer. Hopefully I'm wrong and
mister Cooper does his usual, but yeah, I'll go one.
Speaker 13 (17:17):
All.
Speaker 11 (17:18):
Yeah, I've gone with the art and with win. But
I think that's not a bad shame Cole, to be
quite honest. Second game is going to be an interesting one,
I think because I've gone for Sarthampton at home to
the side that's been flying the first couple of games,
but I'm not sure how much they've played so far,
and that's Stoke.
Speaker 8 (17:36):
It's a tough one in it was Southampton because there's
been a lot of talk around a couple of their
players scooting off. It's a good one. I'll play safe.
I'll stick with the home side to nil Saints.
Speaker 11 (17:49):
Yeah, I think I'm in your care I think, you know.
I think Stoke have been flattered a little bit in
the first two games and I think Southampton might just
wake up. And that's on with you and a final one.
West brom who started Rea home to Smith.
Speaker 8 (18:05):
Yeah, West Brom's scoring a few, conceiving a few. They
had to come around when he goals were involved in
their last game. But it was nice to see Jed
get on the score sheet. So I will go three
nail West Brom must go with that.
Speaker 11 (18:23):
Yeah, dear old Jed was only on the picture about
two seconds I think, and he scored.
Speaker 8 (18:26):
Did they a nice little shot in the onto the manager.
Speaker 11 (18:30):
Yes, yeah, that was good. Well thanks for that, Carl,
cheers mate, that's right.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
Well thanks for being on the show, Carl, and thank
you for I wasn't I wasn't there at the time
your debut on Maritime Radio, which was lauded in the
Southeast London press. So I thought that was fantastic. There
you go, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah they said the
(18:59):
man we the teapot, but there you go. We do
enjoy list is Sorry sorry.
Speaker 8 (19:08):
I was about to say one of my crap jokes,
will count down to the next game.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
Well of course, yeah please you said that, Carl, Yeah, yeah,
I bet you.
Speaker 8 (19:21):
Makes your jokes.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
He's going to jump into the red again. Anyway, we
do enjoy listening to your chat banner, and we hope
you will well. We hope to enjoy your thoughts around
the turn of the year once again, as we usually
do so in the meantime, wishing you and yours all
the best. Look after our miles when he's up there
in the press box with you, make sure he doesn't
(19:46):
fall down the steps, and hey, all the best, take care,
thanks for coming on, Carl.
Speaker 8 (19:53):
Hey problem, take care of everyone by bye.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Cheers, jeers lovely car baits what can you say? Nice man? Anyway,
we'll take a break there and he from Bethany and
mank Tullow.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Our Mill Community Trust Line Center has a four G

classrooms and a cafe. To access these state of the
art facilities in a safe and positive environment, get in
touch on oh too seven seven four zero zero five
zero three.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
I'm your host. Am in Barklaye with me. I have
a no one likes just talking. A team of Dave Hart,
Ted Robinson and Debbie Julians. The Lions Center is the
welcoming hub for the Mill Community Trust. Located on Berlina Road,
are just a short fifty yard walk from the club shop.
It's the perfect, perfect even place to relax and enjoy
some delicious food at reasonable prices and find out what's
(20:47):
going on in the mill Community Trust. Now let's hear
from Ellis Barr.
Speaker 14 (20:58):
Hello, Elisa, Hello, I'm to be back talking about Mellwell.
I know many have watched my videos. Thanks for your
support along the way. It is now time to hear
what all the Melwell teams are up to.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
Come on Nerewell, Yeah, come on Millwall and first up,
Paul Loading brings us the mill All Romans and Pride update.
Speaker 15 (21:22):
Hi, it's Paul Loading from the Millwall Romans. Not much
upstate from our side. I just wanted to offer our
condonasies to Tim Sells family from Millwall Community Trusts, who's
passed away this week. Really really nice guy Tim. He
approached us at the start of the summer and just
said that he was running some training camps throughout the
(21:43):
summer and would we be able to donate some money
to buy some boots for the for the youngsters that
were going there that couldn't afford boots, which we were
more than happy to do, and he arranged all that,
and he obviously had a massive passion for football and
the community there, so that's a massive lost to the
community trust as sympathies go with his family. Just to
(22:05):
quick one on the predictions for this week, sheffeld United
Millwell Millwall one. Now I'm going to say for that one,
so I found some Stoke. I think that's going to
be a two two draw and then West Brom Portsmouth.
I think West Brom won Nick that two one.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
Well, A lovely bunch of people are down the Romans
and pride putting forward that stuff and wonderful sentiments there. Paul.
The Lionesses had their season start ash For Town on Sunday.
We've got a few people going to talk about them.
Miles Staunton and reported for Maritime Radio and also Ky
(22:44):
Bennett who interviewed assistant manager Jack Wison, who was in
charge on his own actually last Sunday. Let's hear what
they had to say.
Speaker 16 (22:56):
This is Marles Staunton reporting for Maritime Radio. The mill
is opened there. London and Southeast Regional Women's League account
on Sunday as they grabbed their first point of the
new season. They secured a three through draw away to
Ashford Town in outstanding fashion. It was Ashford who took
the lead on twenty seven minutes, taneak Cole slightly the
ball into the back of the net from the near post,
(23:17):
but only two minutes later Town doubled their lead when
Charlotte Close lifted the ball over the head of Baravik
and Gold from Millwall well into added on time. Mill
managed to get one back when Mazie joyceased an outstanding
shot from around thirty yards out. Mill's fate seemed to
have been settled on the ninety second minute when Charlotte
Close grabbed her hat trick from the rebound after Sanique
(23:38):
Closes his initial effort was well saved and it was
three to one to Ashford. However, Millwall were definitely not
done there at last. Jennings grabbed one back on ninety
five minutes to get Mate to score to too and
then in the dying seconds the absolute unthinkable happened. New
signing eighteen year old Elsa at A Dupy equalized for Millwall
on ninety nine minutes, a superabending to the first game
(23:59):
of the London and Southeast Regional Women's League. The like
this is next face barking at home next Sunday for
a one thirty kickoff jack.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Point and opening day, three one down the ninety first minute,
actually three to three in the ninety ninth minute. You
must be absolute delighted with the squad's character and resilience
to come back and get a point against a really
tricky oppositions.
Speaker 12 (24:19):
Definitely, we've had plenty of times to breakfast fiction. Nowlbum
from the new fixtures are out, and you know we
knew that with them coming from the Sierum above. You
know how hard it was going to be the girl's running.
No illusions that that was going to be the case.
Speaker 11 (24:33):
So they've done.
Speaker 12 (24:36):
Extremely well to achieve that. In injury time, you know
we're going three one down. You know you're thinking, you know,
nine times out of ten, you don't. We don't get
those sort of results, but it shows strength and character
that girls are building. I say it's been built over
pre season with say the new faces that have come
in as well, So you know, we're delighted to get
(24:57):
that point, the first one on the board as well,
especially you know, considering you know, we're always going by
what we were doing last year. We're a point further
than what we were last year.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
Plenty of new signings over the summer. One of those
obviously came on to get the equalizer. Else RECUPI. You
must be delighted to see them their new signings bending
in now again.
Speaker 12 (25:16):
You know, we've had a few of them that have
come in, so you know they've had to buy their
time in pre season. You know, some have been a
one holiday so it's not been able to get all
of them in at the same time on the pitch,
and it's about taking your chance when.
Speaker 15 (25:29):
You're on the pitch.
Speaker 12 (25:30):
And also did that so delight for our on our
debut to score as well, and for the team as
well obviously with getting that goal.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
We host Barking this Sunday aside, they're brought in a
really good caliber of players over the summer. Be a
tricky test. What do you expect from from that game?
Speaker 12 (25:46):
Hopefully a lot more the same from from last week.
Great determination, one hundred percent effort stuff. It's going to
take us a long way this season. We know what
Barking are going to be about. You know, we know
it's been a bit on social media already that has
been said. So you know, the girls are fully aware
of what needs to be set out for the weekend
(26:08):
and we'll prep Wednesday into Sunday before we go into
a slightly further ahead from that as well with a
squad in terms of playing three games in seven days
as well. So but obviously, of course the next game
is is Barking and we'll prepare for that.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
In due of course.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
Well, that was a good comeback. That was a team
that drops out of the league above the Lionesses, so
not a bad score on the road. Big hot news
in the Lionesses camp. The goalkeeper has been sponsored by
a Millwall legend and Bravik will have Brian King as
(26:50):
a shirt sponsor for the forthcoming season. That's a nice
touch all around. Any thoughts on that, guys, it's.
Speaker 11 (26:59):
Gonna be sponsored by better keeper, could you No? I
think a result like that we're probably going to help
them more for the rest of the season than if
they walked away with a four Neil windsay, because it
shows the spirit that the girls have to come back
like that in injury time against the side that was
probably expected to beat them. Yeah, that's a fantastic start
(27:24):
for them.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
As I say, let's be hopeful despite a free Neil
defeat by Middlesbrough at the Den. Debbie, what was your
reaction to the well the new hospitality arrangements at the
then did they bring a good result?
Speaker 7 (27:40):
Absolutely yes they are. I'm very excited about this new
look at the Den. Three new lounges, Directors Lounge, new
players space and beyond. I work with the premium hospitality
and I had the pleasure of the very best of
(28:02):
venues in London and all around the country. We have
surpassed ourselves to be like no other club in London.
To have a dining area, conference event area open overlooking
the pitch is like no other. Imagine being a Millwall
supporter and getting married overlooking the pitch. Sustainable to take
(28:28):
us to the next level, to compete with other football
venues at a high level, build our success, the partnership
with Sadexo, who also have Fulham, Brighton, Newcastle, Everton FC
and Ascot racecourse, long vision of the club and creating
(28:52):
something exceptional the stadium experience that we can all be
proud of. To bring in revenue three hundred and sixty
five days a year, competing at a top level. It's
a wonderful space, a wonderful venue. Being so close to
(29:12):
the city central London, our Den is something to be
proud of it is a club like no other. The
selfie to be taken next to the trophy cabinet in
Stockety's bar. A multi million pound investment to take us
to the next level and to sustain us there. Our
(29:36):
color blue with the tone of the golden line reflected
through and beyond onto the pitch. A beautiful sight. Excited
for the season. A proud and wonderful, precious club. I'm
going to the Rexham game for a tour. I'll update
(29:57):
you more.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
Thanks for that. That was quite a tour around the
area of change, and we had that little bit from
Carl as well, so I'm glad something was good for
you other than the result on Saturday. Debbie, thanks for that.
Speaker 7 (30:14):
Well, I'm sure we have far better results all the
way through the season.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
Let's be hopeful, Ted, would you say it was the
way we performed that allowed Burro to overrun us.
Speaker 11 (30:31):
Let me just say, first of all, listening to de
Beers made me feel very angry. I don't know, I
was an leite to go and saying the week I
think I think to be honest, I mean, it was
a typical championship game. Everybody talking about the game afterwards
that it was awful. Yeah, we lost three nil, but
it flattered Middlesborough because in the first twenty minutes we
(30:51):
pressed quite high up and they couldn't get out thereof
And I think the turning point for me we've out
of doubt was when Ailien cleared Casper's shot off the line,
because we was desperate to get a goal and get
our goal in front. In the Championship, it's always difficult
for sides to come back from that. And then when
(31:14):
we went one kneel down, we had the one where
Josh It managed somehow managed to it both posts and
the ball comes out to a defender rather than an
attacker coming in, and after that you just felt it
wasn't going to be our day. Look, Middlesbrough are a
good side, but then every side in the championship's a
good side. We know that, we know that for a
(31:35):
fact that Milwall got a perform and perform at their
best on every occasion to get the results that we
think we can get with the ability that we've got.
But Middlesbrough just happened to turn out to be one
of them sort of games that happens to you every season.
And I wouldn't you know, second going of the season.
(31:58):
You can't get too down hearted about it at the
end of the day because you just got to remember
the performance before. We was all raving about and saying about,
you know, we were going to be into the playoffs
at least, and I think that game against Middlesborough I
just reiterated what all we all know is every game
in the championship is on a knife edge most of
(32:21):
the time, so you have to take the advantage when
you're on top. We didn't. You have to make the
most of your chances when they come along. We didn't.
They did, and I say it the end of the game,
which was disappointed, was to give the two last goals away,
(32:41):
which was you know poor at the end of the day.
Addix Neil knows that, the players know that, I'm sure,
and hopefully after that we will sort of bounce back
at Sheffield United. But it's one of them. We just
got old rounds up on the day. Borrow are probably
the better side on a day, but when you wanted
(33:04):
things to go your way, they didn't. And if they don't,
you know, we finish up losing a game of football
in a championship.
Speaker 4 (33:11):
Yeah, let's say it seems to me to be a
reasonable summary. It sort of ties into I think the
staff that we talked about the following day on the
group chat. I'd agree with you there wholeheartedly, just to
shame that it did end up three, Neil, because I
think they're possibly her players a bit, Dave, despite it
(33:33):
being a significant loss, Who if any of our players
stood out for.
Speaker 10 (33:37):
You, Taylor's more or less summed up the game in
its entirety. I can't disagree with in near that. As
you said, we had twenty minutes or so in the
first half where we were really pressing to get that
early going, and the clears off the line. I think
it's sort of not as back a little bit because
(34:00):
we thought we're definitely going to score here, and I
think it made us sort of sit back a little
bit whinning a half time. I was hoping that the
halftime talk would give us a bit more encouragement, and
it didn't. If it were the opposite, because I think
Minuesater came out and they had an extra yard in
(34:22):
their step. It was their pace. They took the lead
and never looked back. Really, we puffed and puffed. Ivanovich
didn't get any service. Cooper to me had a terrible game,
but I think the whole team as a whole didn't
(34:43):
have a good game. It's one of those days where
it just looked as though we were just there. It
was an end of season game where nothing depended on
it and just seeing it out till till the end.
But there was no don't know, effort. It really was
a disappointing result, especially going yet three nil. You know,
(35:04):
middles word a bit aside on the day and those
games with midsbur always are a little bit like that
record against them goes in their favor. I think I
think that one more than we have. So it's a
disappointing result, a disappointment with the team. But we'll move
on on Saturdays to Sheffield.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
Yeah. Nice to see old Sturge get a cameo roll.
They got a cameo row and a yellow card really
pretty quickly as well. But it was a day for
cards and definitely a day for the referee applying the
rules of the game to the tee. It was great
(35:46):
to see that no hanging about with Froze and they
managed to get the players that were laying on the
floor off the pitch as well, so good stuff in
that arena. I like to see more of that. It
makes a big difference for me, I'm sure. Okay. So
the hype is building as we prepare to face Sheffield
(36:09):
United the Mighty Blades on Saturday at three pm at
Brammel Lane. Hasn't been the start that Blades new head
coach Reuben Sellers would have hoped for. The view is
that Sellers will strengthen his defense if he is to
get his side contending for promotion this season. Starman Amadodgic
(36:30):
left Brammellane to go to Faenord and the back four
is currently their weakest area on the pitch, and as
we know, there's more than great talk about that they
will be coming in for our Japet dang Ganga and
even the view that he won't play on Saturday or
(36:50):
New Point. From two games, one goal scored and five conceded,
can mister Cooperman rise from the ashes go again and
secure a win for us? The bookies have the Blazer
evens to win five to two for a draw and
Mill at three to one doesn't look good odds at all.
So what do you all think? Are we hoping for
(37:12):
a positive result or could it go the other way
over to you, Tid.
Speaker 11 (37:17):
Well, it goes in a positive result, but I'll give
you the first game. The game four is obviously sheffild
United versus Millwall. Now I have definitely gone with the Yarp,
but I just shefferd Knight is one in ones you
look forward to because we seem to do quite well
there and I'm going for two one winter the lines
with that. What about you, Derby, what do you think
(37:38):
Sheffy United versus Millwall?
Speaker 7 (37:41):
You took mine to one as well.
Speaker 10 (37:47):
I think I'm going to go with the same school.
Speaker 9 (37:51):
To Wall.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Yeah, well, I've changed my mind because I was going
to say that, Tid. I was going to say that,
but i had a premonition that came through on a
contracted line in the course of the day, and I'm
going to go with a one nil mill will win
(38:13):
and later on you'll find out why.
Speaker 11 (38:19):
All right, very mysterious. I like that. All right, let's
move on to the other two games and then we
go through this way. If you when I ask you,
if you give us the two results, because we've got
Southampton versus Stoke followed by West brom Portsmouth. Dave ad
you see them two two games going.
Speaker 10 (38:38):
I think that's going to be a two nil to Southampton.
Speaker 11 (38:43):
I think it's a West Brom Portsmouth.
Speaker 10 (38:45):
That's gonna be a two nil to West Brom.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
Yeah, thank you. I'm going to go three nil Southampton Stoke,
West Brom four, Portsmouth two.
Speaker 11 (39:01):
Let go. Let let's bebb we have a go go
on ded.
Speaker 7 (39:06):
Southampton two, Stoke one, South South.
Speaker 17 (39:10):
Brom to.
Speaker 9 (39:13):
Neil.
Speaker 11 (39:15):
You mean West Brom West Brom. Sorry that I like
that South from team. They're quite good.
Speaker 7 (39:30):
Alating the two.
Speaker 11 (39:34):
Oh yeah, maybe it's right he's got that one. But anyway,
I've gone Southampton to Stoke one, and I've also gone
West or South Brom or South West Brom uh to
porm Smouth Neil.
Speaker 4 (39:49):
Almost last, but not least, we have the predictions from
Nick wythe of mill in Sicily the Facebook site.
Speaker 18 (40:00):
Hi everyone, nick Wayeth here My predictions are Shefford United one,
meal Wall two, Southampton II, Stoke two and West Brom
three paul Smouth nil.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
Thank you. There you go, Nick.
Speaker 11 (40:19):
Let's see how then results paying out over the weekend.
Speaker 4 (40:23):
I must say a big thanks to Dave Hart who
collects the results and has been given added work by
his close friend and our communications director. Let me think
of his name. We don't see him much these days.
Oh yeah, Jules Lampey. That's it. Who's required the required,
(40:43):
better and further particulars in future? Anyway, what can I say? Hey? Look?
Our second guest section is dedicated to the late Tim
Cells of our mill Community Trust, who recently passed away.
Many of us at No One Likes Us Talking, We're
(41:05):
fortunate to have met him and learned about his inspiring
work as the trust's Football and Sports development manager, a
role he really cherished. Let's take a moment to already
live our memories of Tim as we listen to a
part of an interview we shared with him back in
(41:25):
twenty twenty two.
Speaker 9 (41:27):
I'm Gary Staff and with me I have the No
One Likes Us Talking team of Patricia Maslin, Dave Hart
and George Lampe. Our second guest tonight is the football
and Sports Development manager at the mill All Community Trust,
and he has continued to do amazing work through the
summer in the community. Welcome to the show, Tim Sales
avenly all.
Speaker 19 (41:49):
Timim we all very well? Yea, all good so Tim,
I've been told I'm not allowed to say before I
passed you off to the team, so I face something
else before.
Speaker 9 (42:01):
I panned you my colleagues to talk with you. What
did you think about the line is winning the euro In?
Speaker 1 (42:10):
It was fantastic, weren't it.
Speaker 5 (42:12):
I watched pretty much all the games, and not just
the England ones to see that final played at Wembley
in front of the forts at ninety thousand. Yeah, something else?
Was it really a real sort of watership moment? I thought,
I'm actually friends with Pauline Cope who used to be
the England goal in many moons ago, and I remember, yeah, yeah,
(42:34):
just hearing her talk about you know how far it's coming,
that was just sort of quite moving.
Speaker 1 (42:40):
Really, it was amazing, wasn't it.
Speaker 4 (42:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (42:45):
Fair plays, you know what I mean. It's a long
time coming, isn't it.
Speaker 10 (42:48):
Oh?
Speaker 20 (42:48):
Yeah, but we got there. We got there in the end.
Hello Tim on pat quiet, How are things progressing with
the Player Performance pathway?
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (43:00):
Really well, we currently have two sessions, one on Tuesdays
which is for six to ten year olds, and one
on Friday for eleven to sixteen year olds, so we
sort of cover the whole sort of spectrum. We're started
it around sort of January time, I believe, and now
we've got roughly around one hundred and forty young players
(43:21):
attending each week and we've managed to send nine in
at the moment to the pre academy and the full
full academy, so quite successful as well.
Speaker 20 (43:33):
Yeah wow, yeah, we'll see one of them playing for
us one day.
Speaker 1 (43:37):
Yeah, well, this is it, you know. I've had some
great meetings.
Speaker 5 (43:41):
We've Barried Dune, the head of recruitment, and obviously Scott
the head of the academy, and they're all.
Speaker 1 (43:48):
All really behind it.
Speaker 5 (43:50):
And as I say, the reason it was set up
was to get more through the talented youngsters instead of
getting them snapped up by your man cities and they're
trying to get them into the millwalk had a bit.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
So the fact that.
Speaker 5 (44:01):
We've got a knowing in that short space of time,
although that doesn't sound that high, that that is quite
quite a good return, to be fair, that's very good.
Speaker 17 (44:12):
And just jump in your team. Is this would we
have these sort of kids, this amount of kids coming
into our or are these completely kids that you wouldn't
have got anywhere near normally?
Speaker 1 (44:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (44:25):
Yeah, yeah, basically The idea of the Pathway is to
nurch and group the most talented kids from the local
area into one place.
Speaker 1 (44:35):
That makes it a lot easier for to identify them.
Speaker 5 (44:38):
So yeah, you could say that some may have been spotted,
but some may have been lost to other clubs as
well quite easily.
Speaker 1 (44:45):
So yeah, as I said talking to Scott, and that.
Speaker 5 (44:50):
Just being able to group of all in this in
our fantastic facility at St Paul's Sports Grounds, it's just
ideal for everybody, including the recruitment teams.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
So the more successful we have with.
Speaker 5 (45:03):
That, the more likely that we're going to get more
players coming who want to be seen all the time.
We've actually got what we call a showcase event going
on tomorrow, so a load of the recruitment team are
coming down and we're putting on these small sided games
where they can view. I think we've got about fifty
sixty eleven year olds and we're going to do one
(45:26):
a week all through the summer, so that's going to
be elevens twelves, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, So we're hoping that, yeah,
a few youngsters are spotted at these events.
Speaker 1 (45:38):
We're doing it completely for free as well.
Speaker 20 (45:40):
So can I ask is that a closed shop? I
mean you won't get talent spots from other clubs they're watching.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
Yeah, well yeah, in regards to that, it is a
closed shop.
Speaker 5 (45:52):
Yeah, because you're going to have to come through the
turnstiles and if you're not, if you don't work.
Speaker 1 (45:56):
For Millwell and you haven't got a child.
Speaker 11 (45:58):
There, you won't be leaving all right.
Speaker 19 (46:01):
So before we let you go though, just a quick
prediction for Saturday against sheffields United up at bram All Day.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
As you guys touched on earlier, it's never easy, is
it up that way? But I reckon we're going to
sneaker one nill. Yeah, fingers crossed one nil.
Speaker 4 (46:21):
Well, that's my prediction for Saturday. I couldn't believe it
when I checked back on the last time that we
had Tim on the show that it came out that
the prediction for Millwall was at Sheffield United. That's almost wow. Well,
and that was amazing to hear that he was so
committed to the pathway for the kids and put so
(46:45):
much energy into it. It will be difficult for the
person that follows him in. I know you worked with Tim, Debbie.
Is there anything you might like to share.
Speaker 7 (46:58):
Yes, there is another lion heart. Gone are too early.
I had the pleasure of working with Tim Cells. It
was an honor and a pleasure. Ashy Marsh from the
Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Adopt School joined Tim and
Sean on meetings to start the Kick and Cook scheme.
(47:20):
I introduced them and worked closely with all concerned and
joined in on the kick and cook sessions at schools
in the community. Tim would take the children out in
the playing area or field if they had one, and
teach them the football skills with some players, as she
(47:40):
and I would teach the children cooking skills and healthy
eating in the classrooms and they would take away a
free meal, taking all their new skills and freedom away
with them back to their families. The glee on Tim's
face seeing that all the children were enjoying it and
it had been huge success, the food knowledge and football
(48:03):
skills being a winning combination. As she phoned me yesterday,
stunned and shocked as we all were, Tim Sells, we
sorely missed within the community. He made a huge impact
on others lives. His dedication was unbelievable. A true lion heart.
(48:25):
What a lovely man.
Speaker 4 (48:28):
TI did you ever meet Tim even way? Do you
have any thoughts to share with us?
Speaker 11 (48:34):
I'm fortunately I never met him. I did hear about
him and his work from various people. One of people
that people only expect spoke are very highly from what
I could see, margining. But what always gets me with
these sort of things, aim is someone leaving us a
good one, a good person, good at his job and
good in the community, leaving us at a young age.
(48:58):
It never I mean is different ways of grieving about
different deaths that occur, But the one that always gets
me is when there's someone who's got so much more
to give is taken at an early age, it always
feels that much worse, you know, And my thoughts go
(49:20):
out to his nearest and dearest family, and that because
I lost my best mate at a very young age
and I never ever been able to get over it
in a sense of him being younger than me, and
I think that's part of what I'm talking about, and
that's where it's coming from. But to lose someone like
(49:41):
that at an early age, it's it's criminal and it
shouldn't it shouldn't happen. But yeah, that's as much as answer.
Speaker 4 (49:49):
Thanks Ted Dave, you were on that show. We just
listened to what impressed you about Tim Sells.
Speaker 10 (49:57):
Yeah, with Tim, it is some his enthusiasm. When I
spoke to him on the show, you could tell that
his ideas and his way of it was going to
coordinate his efforts to make sure that you've got a
result that was going to be successful for the youth
(50:19):
of the area, in the area around the ground and
encourage the ANC has come to us rather than go
somewhere else. And I managed to meet him a couple
of times when I went to the community center. I
had a word as short as you usually do, but
just in passing, he made made an effort to come
(50:39):
and speak to you, and you could pick up on
his his his his commitment to what he was going
to do. He was just a lovely man and as
said said, he's gone far, far too early, a man
who added so much to offer and he will really
(51:00):
be sadly missed. So yeah, my company to his family.
Speaker 4 (51:06):
So what a man and an inspiration. Tim was since
sick and is go to his wife, Lisa, their children,
all the staff at the Mill Community Trust is extended
family and friends. Rest in peace. Tim Cells, it was
our pleasure to have known you. We'll take a break
(51:33):
there and hear from Harvey Brown.
Speaker 1 (51:44):
Hi, Harvey Brown here.
Speaker 13 (51:45):
I am proud of the Lion's Food Hub, which is
jointly owned by Kelly and Ellen Webster and they have
been supporting families within our community for over two years
on meal match days. If you would like to donate
to them, they have a match day donation hub Buddy
sixteen bar at Cole Blue Lane and off the ground
where they accept any food or money and toiletry donations
(52:06):
if you can help. Any donations will be received with thanks.

Robinson and Debbie Julians. If you're attending the dinner on
a match day, go to the fan Zone at Coleblow
Lane to donate food and funds, or during the week
visit the Mill Community Trust Lions Center to make donations.
We have a special section tonight featuring a preview of
(52:39):
Mill versus Coentry in the Carabean Cup with Mozz Baker
from a Coventry hospital Radio Moz, we are welcome. I'm
going to hand you over to Ted Robinson, who's got
a question for you.
Speaker 11 (52:55):
There is a Millwalk Coventry question. We here a goalkeeper
who happened to be our greatest goalkeeper. What was his name?
Speaker 18 (53:07):
Now?
Speaker 21 (53:07):
The goalkeeper i'm thinking about who played for Coventry City
and Milwall and I haven't looked this up, but the
man I'm thinking about is Brian King. Hopefully all right,
otherwise I'm going to look a bit of a thought.
But I didn't see a lot of Brian King play,
but I do believe that he played in the first
ever match that I went to see at Highfield Road,
(53:27):
which was nineteen seventy five Coventry City nil Liverpool Neil
and I thought he looks a good keeper. From what
I'm told, he was a good keeper for us. It
was around the time that he was in gold and
then Jim Blythe took over, who was a Scottish Internationalhno,
and he became a fan's favorite. So don't record a
(53:50):
lot about Brian King, but certainly know he was well
respected by a lot of Coventry City fans.
Speaker 11 (53:55):
And my prediction four the game is Millwall two Coventary one.
Speaker 10 (54:01):
Hi Mors Dave Hale here quarentering this out on the
playoffs last season. How do you think they would do
this season? Are better or worse? And my predictions for
the game in the week is a mill will win
three two.
Speaker 21 (54:17):
Can we do better than last season? I think if
we can get off to a good start, which has
been our achilles heel in recent seasons, then I think
we can. We can't keep relying on a brilliant second
half of the season. We need to start better. Okay,
two games then we've got a drawer against Whole victory
brilliant victory against Darby on Saturday, so certainly hopefully that
(54:40):
will continue QPR on Saturday and then Oxford United away
the following Saturday for the international break. If we can
get six points from that will be a very good
start indeed, and if we can continue that momentum, then
I expect us to be in the playoff shakeup this
season and possibly even pushing towards the automat places. But
(55:01):
a lot of that is down to relying on getting
steering clear of too many serious injuries and also hopefully
in the next week ten days or so, adding a
few extraditions to the side. As for my prediction for
the match against Millwall at the Den on Tuesday. I'm
going for a nil and draw and a win on
(55:23):
penalties for Coventry City.
Speaker 7 (55:27):
Maybe Julian's do you think Coventry take the Carabell Cup seriously?
Speaker 21 (55:34):
Coventry City take the Carabar Cup seriously?
Speaker 1 (55:37):
Well?
Speaker 21 (55:37):
I think my answer that one is probably about as
seriously as most clubs do, maybe a little bit more seriously.
They of course, we got to the semi final of
the FA Cup a couple of seasons ago against the odds,
so I think the fans and the owner, Doug King,
(55:57):
has got a taste for cup success, so I think
he'd like to go as far as possible and I
think I know when Mike Robbins was in charge, he
encouraged him to try and get to Wembley, so a
couple is something that I think the club would like.
I suspect that Franklin Pard will mix a team around
as he did against Lowton Town in the last round,
but I think it'll be a reasonably strong side again
(56:18):
and I think he will be looking to get the
victory on Tuesday night. I certainly hope, So.
Speaker 7 (56:23):
My prediction for the game is Millville two Coventry one.
Speaker 4 (56:30):
That's wonderful, absolutely spiffing. Thank you will was thanks for that.
We look forward to in joining you yet again on
Coventry Hospital Radio in a not too distant future. Have
a good Saturday. Well, we're all looking forward to the
next game, but in the meantime, here are a few
matters of interest for mill fans and those interested in football.
