(03:17):
guest this evening is truly a legend in his own lifetime.
He spent eight wonderful seasons at the Den and still
holds the record for the most appearances in his playing position,
a record that has never been beaten in the club's
one hundred and forty years of existence. He was the
first Millwall player to be capped for England since Reg
Smith in nineteen thirty eight. He remains a passionate supporter
(03:38):
of the Lions and is often seen at the Den
cheerfully supporting Trust Events and the club. Please welcome me
in joining Brian.
Speaker 7 (03:46):
King Good All right, Brian good Eving, Jeffrey Steve.
Speaker 8 (03:56):
No, I'll just read you nice speak to you, Brian.
Speaker 7 (04:01):
How are you going stand anyway? I can hear you
right and wrong and everything here? What's going on?
Speaker 9 (04:07):
No?
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Everything? He's hunky dory, my hunky dory.
Speaker 7 (04:10):
Wonderful, wonderful Brian.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
We are so excited to have you on the show
as we gear up for a big day at the
Den for you this Saturday. Before we get started, we'd
love to hear about the special day this year when
you celebrated fifty years since your last league game for
Millwell on April the twenty sixth. It's a milestone worth sharing.
Speaker 7 (04:32):
Yeah, it was funny enough. It's dear Old Murray who
reminded me that it was Bristol Row was at home
at the old Den and fifty years later I happen
to have the pleasure of coming to the Dnisty the
game and was welcomed by the new CEO, Mark Fairbrother
and spend a very pleasant day in the hospitality section
(04:57):
and watching the game, and finally enjoyed the day it was.
It's just ridiculous one. I think it's fifty years ago
this year since I played my last game for Melwall,
and as I've said on many occasions, I'm very humble
(05:17):
and very grateful that people still remember Brian King.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Anyway, Brian, it's it's me here. You know, we now
know that former Lioness Preu Buckley, Mulewall captain Les Brightley
and you will be honored on the pitch ahead of
direction game to be inducted as forever Lions. Right. Can
you tell us what led to this type of recognition
(05:45):
becoming part of Millwall award system?
Speaker 10 (05:49):
Right?
Speaker 7 (05:49):
Well, it was about eighteen months ago. I sat talking
to Sean Day and amen and the thing that spugged
me with Millwall all these years, we never really had
a former players association. I've been several times up to
the commentary city former players and it's an exciting day
(06:10):
when you're when you're welcomed and called in and okay,
you have to work a little bit, speak of the
various lounges, but they really look after you and that's
something I've always thought that Millwall should do to their
former players. Unfortunately for my team and before my team,
a lot of the players have passed on. So I
said to Sean and we really have to make an effort.
(06:33):
We have to talk to Mark, and we have to
talk to the new regime at the football club and
try and get this off the ground once and for all.
And I was very pleased to get the feedback from
the Community Trust and also from Millwall to say that
that they've given the green light to go ahead, and
all of a sudden it became the Forever Lions and
(06:57):
which which meant that it was going to be devoted
to the former players, both men and women. And I
feel extremely honored, as I know Les does and I'm
sure Prue does, that we're going to be the first
people inducted into this new association as such. So looking
(07:19):
forward to the game on Saturday, I just hope we
can bring them a bit of luck and three points
this award. That'll do me nicely, and of course to
see some old friends and chat and talk about the
old days as well as the president Millwall set.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Up Jeff here Brian, Yes, I was aware that you'd
managed to persuade people that this was a good idea
to have a former players Association and it's good to
see that it has finally got off the ground and
for you and our promotion winning captain Les Bridley and
(07:58):
a former England international and millwall Ie s Trewe Buckley
are going to be the first ones. I'm looking forward
to seeing that. What time is that going to happen
on the pitch, Brian.
Speaker 7 (08:08):
Well, they say. Funnily enough. I was at the at
boards ground today to see a Millwall football school where
they're providing coaching, free food and I spent the day
there along with you Jeff. Yes, it was really enjoyable
to see the kids enjoy it and the way the
(08:29):
coaches work and there's there's a great rapport between the
boys and the coaches and I chance to say a
few words to them and reminded me go home and
tell their granddads and the dads that they met Brian King,
because I'm sure all these young lads had no idea
who I started to talk to him. But I was
(08:52):
well received and it was a very good day. The
weather was good and enjoyed it and Nick, who looks
after everybody, made us more than welcome. And the same
way Kai who took pictures and other stuff. I believe
it's going on social media. But going back to the
sanity presentation, I believe we're going down to be presented
(09:13):
on the pitch at two thirty when we receive our
awards or or ties or whatever's going to be presented
to us.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
Yeah, it was an enjoyable day down at Saint Paul's.
We operate it as Millwall Community Trust, but it was
an enjoyable David Brian. The thing that I remember about
this today or yesterday it was, was when they asked
you the most famous player you'd ever played against was,
(09:44):
and you said Jeff Burnish, Tommy Steele, and you said
Pella not only once but twice. Well some of these kids,
there was nobody there older than about ten, but they
all was, didn't They.
Speaker 7 (10:00):
They did, indeed, And I believe it's through all these
games they play on the computers as well. I'm sure
it is. I was very lucky and privileged to play
against him in the Select eleven at craven Coitage in
sixty eight or sixty nine I think it was, And
then again when I went to see if I could
continue playing after I got injured at Coventry with Vancouver
(10:23):
White Caps My second game for them was against New
York Cosmos in New York. You know, it was just
a small, small stadium, the Yankee Stadium. I think it's
seventy three thousand there. And again not only Beckham Baar,
but Beckenbauer and Pelee and Chickle Arni and a few
(10:45):
other names. Funny enough, an old teammate of mine Steve Hunt,
who made a very big name for himself in America.
And as well, as I say, if you're going to
play against somebody, it always kills the conversation when when
people are saying, well, who's your best player or your
best player, and then I quite shyly say Pelly, and
(11:09):
that usually brings a conversation to a swift end, because
you ain't going to get better than that anywhere or
any time.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Well, it was a very enjoyable day, as you say.
Nick Farrell, who's been a lifelong Millwall fan, was our
host today and KLi Bennett, who works for the Community Trust,
took some nice pictures, so look forward to seeing those.
But Brian, congratulations on that being one of the inaugural
(11:37):
recipients of that award. I'd like to ask you about
what you've been doing in more recent years living in Norway.
What your activity has been while you've been living over there.
Speaker 7 (11:59):
Well, I was. I was manager and coach for about
sixteen years in Norway and Sweden. Funny enough, I had
seven promotions with the teams I was with over there.
We got to the Cup final.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Brian, you were most recently described as a successful pioneer
in bringing Scandinavian players to the English game by both
Jonathan Northcraft in the Sunday Times and also by Tony
Cascarino on talkSPORT Radio. Can you tell us how this
element of your career developed beyond your playing days.
Speaker 7 (12:35):
Well, he goes back to when I was first into Norway. Really,
we played a cup match against a team called Moss
and they had a center half called Aina Os and
I recommended him, originally to my Palette non Noham forest
Allan Hill. He came over and had to look at him,
(12:55):
and of course the rest, as they say, is virtually history,
because Aina went on to Bayern Munich and then he
went on to London forreshaw could have been the other
way around. I'm not sure. My memory and as good
as it was, but Pluffy was well pleased with that
they come over and played a friendly and I had
a very pleasant day with him and he was very
(13:17):
happy with them aina to be honest. So that was
the first player that I was involved in in moving
to England or helping to move to England. The next
one I saw playing as a kid in America in
a tournament in America in Minneapolis and also Denver in Colorado.
He was a captain of a team under eighteen team.
(13:39):
Never played international football for Norway at any junior level.
Thought he looked a decent player and I recommended him
to Alex Ferguson because this kid was a Man United
support and his name was Ninburgh to which Alex couldn't
sign him initially because he hadn't played any internationals at
any level. So he went from Vole Reagan to a
(14:04):
club called Lillastrom and finally, of course, the joke was
always that when he signed for Man United, and it
reminded me that we could have had him for nothing
or just a bit of compensation, and he finally cost
him five point eight million, so he weren't too happy
(14:24):
about all that. But that was that was really the
second player I was initially involved with, and it really
just evolved from there with certain players, you know Leonards
and Alfi halland Early's father he was he was another
(14:44):
one that we helped and he went to Leeds and
the men see and so on. And recently well, while
I was at Everton, I took a young kid there
along with his dad, Erlin halland he was just coming
up for sick. He would have cost Everton at the
time about this undred million pounds and he played two
(15:09):
matches in the week he was over with his dad
and he done well. But the concisest of opinion from
the academy was he's such a big boy at fifteen
sixteen and when he was six or three then a
bit skinny, but very powerful for that age group. And
they come to the conclusion that as he grew up
(15:30):
and the people around him at his age grew up,
he might not be as effective as what he could be. Well,
I think that's been I think that's been blown into
heaven and that the boys proved the eaton score goals
and he's quite an exciting player. And I think it
costs a bit more two million to day, they'll be honest,
but it's just been it's just been things like that you.
(15:52):
I've been a member of the Coaches Association or the
Trainers Association as they call that, since nineteen six when
he first started. I'm still a member. I'm a member
as a pensioner. And the coaching the course is something
that I enjoyed and managing. But all these things come
(16:14):
to an end. I've done a bit of agency work.
I've done scouting, as I say, for the last twenty
six twenty seven years, and that was really enjoyable. Traveled
the world at the Premier League club's expenses and enjoyed
it immenseally and it was a good living and saw
a lot of games. Saw the whole world, I mean
(16:36):
Olympic Games in Australia and going to look at players
who come to Villa One, Pablo and Girl in Buenos Aires,
you know, America, all over Europe, Africa, Asia. So I've
had a good life in football. I think it's about
sixty five years I've been in football now and I'll
(16:58):
be in football until until the old Cloaks get kicked,
I think. And Melwall's a nice way to see games
and I love coming down there, and as I say,
I'm always humble when people come up and say you
weren't a bad goalkeeper or things of that nature. And
I respect the Millwall fans. I respect the club and
(17:22):
the semi commentary, and also a non league club called
Chelsea City. I always look for their results because that's
where my life football started and I think my gradiest
part of my football career was, of course the nine
years I had with Melwolle. And it just seems remarkable
that I'm still the goalkeeper that's made the most league
appearance and I can't believe in one hundred and four years.
(17:45):
I mean, surely is somebody. I believe Fordy was very
close to beat me, but he failed at the last eardle.
So it's nice to have that honor, and I really
really humble that I have got that honor because millwaller
in my art, they will never ever be anywhere else.
Speaker 8 (18:09):
Hi, Brian, it's Steve here.
Speaker 7 (18:12):
Not to speak to you, Steve, love you to speak
to you.
Speaker 8 (18:16):
Firstly, thanks, I'm looking forward to picking up my personalized
copy of your book from the line center on sand
one of the score Prediction.
Speaker 7 (18:27):
I signed it today. Actually, I think Omen had sent
the text message to Nick who or Kai and I
thought I was going to write another book. But I
hope you enjoy what I said to you.
Speaker 8 (18:44):
Oh, thank you, I really will enjoy reading it.
Speaker 7 (18:48):
I am good.
Speaker 8 (18:49):
I know you aren't me follow mill to this day.
What do you think of our prospects for this season?
Speaker 7 (18:55):
Well, you know, to be fair, there seemed to be
great expertations from everybody connected with the club. We're seen, however,
a reasonably a reasonably powerful squad. Unfortunately, injuries are always
going to happen at football clubs. What we don't want
to happen is like he did at the end of
(19:16):
last season, where key players were missing key matches. I've
heard the word that a player who I like very much,
the young boy Billy Mitchell. Well, I don't know when
he's young now, but he might be out for a
little period. Like him, I like his enthusiasm, I like
his commitment. I always call him a posh version of
(19:40):
Terry Urlock. But but you know he's he's got he's
got a great feeling for the club, as his family have.
And I look at the signings that have been made.
I was impressed with the goalkeeper at Sheffield. Everybody seems
to think that he's is lot. His big save to
(20:01):
the left was the one, but for me, the one
lowdown was a very very good save. We've got a
good strong hand on it and those two saves obviously
got us the points up there, and apart from the
middle Middlesbrough game, which was an absolute disaster by the
sound of it, but we still could have got something
out of it, and I think the optimism within the
(20:23):
football club and the fans is quite high. I just
hope we can keep this momentum going. I'm looking forward
to the game against Wrexham because this is a high
profile side in our league, of course, with the film
stars who own it and the paraphernalia around the series
on Disney and which is which has been been great
(20:44):
for the Championship and all the leagues that they've been
in in the last four or five years. I know
the manager, he's a pull of a de mine and
Atkins they always a He's done all of a job
there and we hope Alex was going to do the
same kind of job with Millwall. So fingers crossed from
my end. I've got to tell you.
Speaker 8 (21:07):
And mine too, So.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Brian, before you go, we do have Ted's prediction League
there will be a prize for the best score predictor,
so please share your forecast for these three Championship fixtures.
So we've got Millwall Rexham. What's your score prediction for
Millwill Rexham.
Speaker 7 (21:28):
Well, uh, it's a big game for both teams, to
be honest. Rexham won in the week, we won in
the week, so my heart's going to say Millwall are
going to win and I'm looking for a one nil
(21:49):
or two one. I'll go for two to one.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
Okaywall, Blackburn, Norwich, Blackburn.
Speaker 7 (21:57):
Norwige Norwidge had a good result away Nora shouldn't be
struggling to put the results on the on the board.
I'll go for Blackburn one.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Nil okay, and it switched Derby.
Speaker 7 (22:17):
Fritch Derby. Well, I soon got to start winning games.
I'll go for it each two nil.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Lovely Well, thank you for being on the show, Brian,
It's truly been a pleasure here in your story and
your thoughts on meal Wall. My dad, Steve and I
will be clapping for you on Saturday. We're just to
the right of the away dugout, so you can keep
an eye out for us. Also, maybe, maybe, just maybe
we can catch up with you sometime in person, which
(22:45):
would be great. So wishing you all the best and
take care and let's chat again before the season ends.
Speaker 7 (22:51):
I look forward to that. And thanks very much for
inviting me on the on the program, and all the
best of yous do I look. I look out for
you on Saturday, and and you Bethany, and I dare
say staying and you are a boat down there staying

Speaker 7 (23:14):

never know to you know, remember that.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
That's true, mate, that's very true.
Speaker 7 (23:22):
There you go, and I know jeff'son the family Enclosure
indeed all right, building Lego and chasing dinosaurs around. So
you'll be all right, Jeffson. Good luck to all for of you,
four of you, and have a good night, and I
look forward to here in the program. Thanks very much again.
(23:42):
Oh thank you, Brian, Thanks thanks Brian. Bye b Saturday,
Yeah bye bye, thank you.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
We will take a break there and here from Harvey Brown, Hi,
Harvey Brown.
Speaker 11 (24:02):
Here.
Speaker 12 (24:02):

Now.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
Ellis Barr is about to undergo surgery to help improve
her mobility. Everyone here, no one likes us talking, and
our listeners are sending warm wishes for a quick smooth recovery.
Let's hear from Ellis.
Speaker 14 (25:15):
Hello, elis here and I'm glad to be back talking
about Mellwell. I know many have watched my videos. Thanks
for your support along the way. It is now time
to hear what all the Merwell teams are up to.
Come on Newell.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
Thank you as always Ellis Paul Loading brings us the
Millwell Romans and prior.
Speaker 15 (25:39):
To update Hi, it's Paul Loading from the Millwell Romans.
Were still in our pre season with training carrying on
every Wednesday's open training with getting quite big numbers there
twenty to twenty five.
Speaker 13 (25:49):
People per week.
Speaker 15 (25:51):
So it's yeah, it's really really kicked off well with
pre season this year. In terms of the predictions this week,
mill getting some cracky results result for them in the week.
Now we move on to Crystal Palace, that would be
a feisty game. I'm going to try and get down
there to that one myself. But for these predictions for
this weekend, I'm going to say mil will are gonna
(26:12):
nick that one nil. I think Black black Bent Knowrriedge,
I think Black Burr will take that to to one
and ipswich Derby I think Ipswich Derby, I think it's
going to be a one all draw.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
Miles Thornton reports for Maritime Radio on two mill All
Lioness's matches this week against Barking on Sunday and Sutton
on Wednesday evening.
Speaker 16 (26:34):
This is Miles Thornton reporting for Maritime Radio. The mill
Lionesses faced the demanding few days as they took on
Barking Women and Starting United Women in quick succession, earning
a point from two spirited performances, the first at home
and the second away. In the first of the two fixtures,
Millwell Will narrowly edged out two to one by Barking
on Sunday afternoon. As say Bob sports Ground with manager
(26:57):
Ted Jones unavailable, Jack Wison took charge and he oversaw
a gritty display that nearly produced to come back after
a cagy first half with limited chances. It was Barkin
who struck first as Shanty Charles found space in the
box and clinically put finished past Abby Barravick in the
sixty fourth minute, and just three minutes later Charles doubled
her tally with another composed effort, putting the visitors firmly
(27:20):
in control. Millwell refused to fold and mounted a late rally.
Mea Lockett pulled one back in the eighty six minute,
tapping off a period of sustained pressure from the hosts.
Moments later, Sophie Chapman came agonizingly close to an equalizer,
crashing a powerful header against the crosspath. Despite the late push,
Barkin held firm, led by captain Dan Carlton to see
(27:40):
out the win. There was also a debut for Mill's
new signing Ronnie Richards, who signed on a dual registration
basis from London Be's. She brought fresh energy off the
bench during Mill's late surge. Just three days later, Millwall
were back in action and earned a well deserved point
in a thrilling one one draw with Sutton United. The
match was a temper affair, with chances at both ends
(28:02):
and strong goalkeeping displays when mill Will stop by Abbi
Barravik and Sutton's Meghan Taylor. Suttonly opened the scoring early
on when Milly Cutler struck the post in the fourth
minute following a rapid counterattack. Millell responded through Wigger Mere Lockett,
whose dazzling runs set up porscham miland Langley rights, but
her shot drifted narrowly ride. The breakthrough, though came in
(28:23):
stoppage time of the first half. Maisie Joyce forced to
say from Taylor and Porschamyland Langley Wright were reacted quickest
to the shot to slot home the rebound, giving Millwall
a deserved lead at the break. Sutton equalized shortly after
the restart when Gabby Williams was brought down in the
box and Beth Humphrey converted the resulting penalty with composure.
(28:43):
Both teams continued to press for a winner. Millwell substitute
Floria Winfield came close with a sharp effort that was
well saved, while Sutton's Becky Olimerdegi rattled the crossbar in
the eightieth minute after Abby Barravik produced the fine stop
moments earlier. In the final moment, academ A graduate Kayla
Townsend nearly clinched all three points of the Lionesses, but
(29:04):
Taylor stood tour once again to ensure the points for shed.
The Lionesses will now turn their focus to the upcoming
away fixture on Sunday, the thirty first of August, when
they traveled to face New Haven Women. Kickoff Is it
two pm? Miles Thornton Maritime Radio.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
As we mentioned earlier, we delivered two wins over the
Blades and the sky Blues. Dad, how would you describe
that victory at Brammel Lane last Saturday, after the very
disappointing defeat at home to Burrow.
Speaker 8 (29:35):
I thought the Sheffard United game was a great game
for many reasons. Firstly, it showed that we've got the
fight to tough it out when we get him front.
I know we rode our luck a little, but there
were some tremendous says by Bender and Candle's goal was
so well taken when you see it side on, you
watched him stay on side and then as soon as
the ball was headed he got behind the back line
(29:57):
and he was in. So you know, that shows some
real now, so that that was really good to see.
I think we'll probably need to start thinking about changes
for the defense because obviously, Jeff It's not going to
be there anymore. So but I thought actually they looked
all right on Saturday. We looked a bit shaky at times,
but I think as the game wore wrong we look better.
(30:19):
In the second half. We defensively we did really well.
I still think we struggled a bit in front of goal,
and I think we'll need to start killing teams off
or this is going to feel like a long season.
But overall, I think we deserve the win, and if
we play like that in the future, we'll win more
than we lose.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Stan another win on Tuesday night at the Den over
unbeaten Coventry. Was it expected or exceptional?
Speaker 4 (30:46):
I think it was a bit of both, to be
perfectly honest. I mean, I always go to when we
I always expect us to win when we're playing at
home anyway, regard this really opposition is merely because we're
at home. But I was really pleased with the performance
on Tuesday night. I can't think of any one player
(31:09):
where I thought was off the pace. I thought they
was all good. And the guy that really stuck out
for me was the guy that Grant who scored the
second goal. I mean, I've watched him two or three
times now, and he's not the finished article by any
stretch of the imagination, but he's got the makings to be,
(31:33):
you know, a good central defender and play at that
sort of level. But no, and what's pleasing was when
we were sitting there watching the game, everyone that was
around me, I mean it seems surreal to these days,
everyone around me was None of them were moaning about
what Mealwell should have done. But didn't. Everyone was seemed
(31:53):
to be happy with it, and you know, the effort
was there and all that sort of stuff. I thought
we won the game. I did think towards once they
got their their goal, I thought we might be hanging
on a bit here, But no, we you know, I
thought we won it. And if we carry on playing
like that and then top that with the performance we'd
(32:14):
had on the previous Saturday, I mean, it all looks good.
But no, I think we're doing okay at the moment.
And as I say, the thing that strikes me I
had heard anybody you know complain too much. That's what
I find bizarre. But long may that continue. But no,
I thought we played really well, you know, so you know,
(32:37):
let's keep going.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
And Jeff, when the balls were drawn for the third
round high in the Caravell Cup, what was your initial
and subsequent feeling about us facing Crystal Palace again at
sell Us Park less than a year apart.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
Well, whatever, there is a Cup draw, I'm always hoping
for a home match, and I sup as we got
a fifty to fifty chance. So when Crystal Palace's name
was read out as the home team, I immediately thought
I bet that's us, and of course it was amazing
to be going back there so soon after that memorable
(33:14):
match in the FA Cup, when of course there was
the incident with Roberts, our goalkeeper and Matteta, the Palace
center forward. It will obviously be a very very tempestuous game.
Any local derby with them is going to be big.
(33:34):
That one was big, but with everything that went on,
with what Crystal Palace was saying about that incident, it's
bound to be even more even more lively when we
go and play there. It should be fantastic because I
think we've got a better side now than we have then,
(33:57):
and they may have a week side than they have then.
They've already lost everinch Air is he We don't know yet,
but maybe they'll have lost Mark Gaey by then. I'm
really looking forward to it. I wanted a home tie,
but at least we haven't got to go very far
to watch our beloved lions just down the road.
Speaker 4 (34:19):
Can I just add something to that? What that needs?
The Palace scene, you see, I mean we all know
the fall out there was with the chairman and Parish
and whatever in his outrageous comments at the time, ably
assisted by talkSPORT Radio and Jim Might in particular right,
(34:39):
And the erond of it all was is that when
they had the charity shield with Palace against Liverpol Wembley
and some of the Palace fans booed when they had
the minute silence for Jodda right the very next day,
Jim Might have nothing to say about that, Absolutely nothing
to say about that at all. Yeah, but if that'd
(35:01):
been mule Wall here, we'd either gone on about it
all day and I'll just leave it at that, well.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Said, thanks for that everyone. So we are very excited
to face Wrexham at the Den this Saturday at three pm.
The Red Dragons are riding high after their impressive huge
win as they describe it, in the Caravell Cup, where
they beat Preston North End three to two, coming from
behind to secure their place in the third round. While
(35:29):
they're celebrating their Cup success, they're still seeking their first
championship win after three matches. In the Bookies front, our
odds are ten to eleven to win, a drawer is
five to four and a Wrexham victory is three to one.
We are the favorites, but remember we were also favored
against Middlesbrough and look what happened. So what do we
(35:51):
all think? Are we hoping for a positive result or
could it go another way? I'll give you my prediction first,
and Rob mclhenney, if you're listening, I'm sure sure you are,
Please close your ears. You may be my favorite comedian
slash creator of my favorite TV show of all time,
so don't listen to this next bit. I'm going for
(36:11):
a three nil win to Millwill, So mil Will three
Wrexham nil. So what everyone else's predictions?
Speaker 8 (36:18):
Dad, Well, I think it's going to be close, and
I think Millwell going to win one nil, and I'm
banking on Coburn to school.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
Stan Well, I think yeah, I mean well yeah, and
I think it will be close. But I think that
wrexhamon now find it a bit difficult at this level.
I mean they've not brought up too many trees since
they've got there, So I think I think we'll winning
two one, but I think it will be relatively easy.
(36:53):
I don't think it's going to be as difficult as
we thought it might have been. That messed my view and.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Jeff Well, I was confident when I was going into
the Middlesbrough game, but their young player Hayden Hackney had
a very very good game. Looks like a player with
a big future. So I'm hoping that this time, instead
of conceding two late goals, will possibly be scoring two
(37:21):
late goals. I think Millwall win. I think we're a
better team than Wrexham, so I think we will win.
And I either of those predictions are good one nil
two to one that my colleagues have just given.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
I'm going to go two nil for Millwall, okay. So
how do we see the other two predictions going for
the other games? So Stan Blackburn Norwich.
Speaker 4 (37:50):
I think that would be a one one.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Draw and ipswich d Derby.
Speaker 4 (37:57):
I think that will be a two yell win to Derby, okay.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
Jeff Blackburn Norwich, I think I also think that's going
to be a one all draw.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
And ipswich Derby.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
That's a difficult one. That is a difficult one. I've
got a funny feeling that might be a good game
for Derby. But again I'm going to go.
Speaker 4 (38:26):
For a one to one draw, okay.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
And Dad Blackburn Norwich.
Speaker 8 (38:32):
I think that's going to be two to one to.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
Blackburn and Ipswich Derby.
Speaker 8 (38:38):
I'm going for a two to two draw with that.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
Okay, so I'm going to go Blackburn Norwich. I'm going
to go a nil nil draw and Ipswich Derby. I'm
going to go two one to Ipswich. Last, but not least.
Let's hear from Nick with of millwal Sicily sit.
Speaker 12 (39:01):
Hi.
Speaker 13 (39:02):
Everyone, this is Nick Wire and these are my predictions.
Speaker 15 (39:05):
Real Wall three, redsome Neil, Blackburn two, Knowledge one.
Speaker 6 (39:11):
And Ipswich to Derby one.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
Thanks very much, thanks Nick. A big thanks to Dave Hart,
who collates our results. Our second guest is a friend
of the show. He has assembled a fantastic team that
provides excellent responses within the community that they serve. His
dynamic approach and leadership shows no bounds once compared to
(39:37):
a Juris cell bunny. Let's say a big hello to
the CEO of our mile Community Trust, Sean Daily.
Speaker 8 (39:44):
Hello, give me Sean bye, Sean, Hello, you right, we'll
good all good Sean.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
It's Bethany here.
Speaker 13 (39:56):
Hi definitely Hi.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
Yeah, it is greatly appreciated that you've join us during
these challenging times. We were really sadden to hear of
Tim Sells passing your friend and an inspirational team player
in our Mile Community Trust. Last week we shared some
clips of Tim and discussed what we knew about him.
How would you remember Tim?
Speaker 10 (40:20):
You know, I knew Tim personally before he joined the Trust.
Very passionate person about making young people and staff achieve
their goals. Worked very hard, you know, really really wanting
to make a difference within the community and within his programs.
(40:41):
Greatly missed by everyone. It's been a bit of a
shock for the last sort of like ten days for
everyone that's involved with the Trust. But you know, I
used to take calls from him eight o'clock in the
morning when he's on his way into work, and then
six o'clock at night when he's on his way home.
So there are sort of things that I'm going to
miss around him.
Speaker 13 (41:01):
But he just had this love.
Speaker 10 (41:03):
Of using football to make people's lives better, whether that
was young kids, whether it was adults. And he's going
to be greatly missed for the Trust.
Speaker 8 (41:17):
Hi, Sean, you doing you Not too bad? Not too bad.
We all saw the press releases surrounding the Lions Forever club.
We all thought it was about time. Can you tell
us how it came to be and how it will
operate in the future.
Speaker 10 (41:33):
Yeah, it's something I'm quite passionate about.
Speaker 4 (41:36):
You know.
Speaker 10 (41:36):
I see a lot of a lot of other clubs
where they recognize players that have represented the club and
acknowledged those players that you know, they're part of the family,
whether they move on to another club or whether they
retire or something. So I wanted to recognize some of
those players, and I wanted to have like a former
Players Association. It's taken a long time to get it
(41:59):
going because of course I need proof from the club.
I need to get right things in place. So the
idea of the idea is once a month, we will
induct three players into the Former Players Association, two male
and one female because it's important that you know, we've
got lionesses as well, and they will come onto the pitch,
(42:22):
receive the certificate, and then we'll go into the form
wild Players Association. And my idea is that we continue
every season recognizing players that have that have represented the club,
and fans get an opportunity to meet past players and
they get to come back.
Speaker 13 (42:41):
To the den and we thank them for the time
they were here.
Speaker 10 (42:47):
You know, because a lot of players will move on
and not actually get to see the fans when they leave.
So I want players to come back to the club
and see how we've developed as a club since they
they put the boots on the play. So I just
want to faint players and recognized players that have represented
the club.
Speaker 8 (43:04):
Well, thank you for putting it on, because I mean,
it's a long time coming and it's just just what
we need at this moment. I think, oh, thank.
Speaker 13 (43:12):
You so much.
Speaker 4 (43:14):
Shaun. Stand here, mate, I'm fain to see all right.
I'm good, good, good good. It's great to see Ted
Robinson find a Santa Dash or as they call it,
stroll partner this year in Carle Bates, who was on
last week's show. Of course I'll be there with Marles,
not just to cheer everyone on. We need to communicate
(43:37):
the message to potential participants. Do you have any early
faults on when this is likely to be and will
there be specific formats for different age groups and abilities?
Speaker 10 (43:51):
Yeah, so I heard the chat last week. I know
Carle wasn't happy about They sort of suggested his age,
which I thought he wasn't very happy about. We haven't
made the plans for it yet. It's hugueally around Christmas,
so it's hugely the newest game to Christmas Day. But
we haven't made the plans at the moment because last
year we were going to make the rundown to down
(44:15):
to Saint Paul's and back didn't happen because the weather
was bad, so we ended up using the line center.
I don't really want to put me in age groups
and categories because I think it's quite a big family thing,
so I like to see the families running with their
little kids and stuff like that. So we haven't made
plans yet of what we're going to do. It'll probably
(44:36):
go if the weather is good, it will go back
to the old format, back down to Saint Paul's watching
the Girls Academy that day playing and then come back up.
But in the next couple of months will be setting
a date. But yeah, we'll have our Santa and Elf
Dash definitely again this year.
Speaker 4 (44:53):
Okay, I'll look forward to that, surely.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
It's Jeff here, Jeff here. It's like, I was really
impressed and still am by our last conversation about the
Trust's achievements that was on a recent show. I was
really impressed with the day at Saint Paul's today with
(45:17):
Brian King earlier. What are your targets or objectives in
southoct Lewisham and Seven Oaks for the future.
Speaker 10 (45:30):
We're very much about making sure that we're in line
with the needs that are set out by the councils.
So Subfolk have just announced their new strategy for the
next six years. Lewisham did it about two three months
ago and it was mostly around you know, engaging young people,
(45:50):
getting people into employment, generating the area, making sure that
families at the forefront of everything that's been done and
giving all young people in Lewisham or something an opportunity
to achieve their aspirations, which fits in very nicely with
what we do. So our programs will be mostly done
(46:13):
around the needs of what's been set out the strategies.
So I know at the moment like Luisium are looking
at like their employment rates and how can they get
young people into employment, how can they get people reskilled
up for the changing employment world. So you know, our
employment hub services at where people are coming in finding
(46:35):
jobs moving on you know, young people. There's a lot
of flats being built around the area and a lot,
a lot, a lot of Greenland or sports facilities being
put in, so you know, how do we engage those
young people so they stay online in their life and
not going down different routes. So you know, we're going
to be working with a council about setting sporting activities
(46:57):
up on the states and local air areas that we
can engage young people. But my role is to make
sure that as a football club we're in line with
the strategy of both councils because I think if we
go off and do our own thing, we don't get
the backing of the council there because they'll say that
isn't what we're looking at you to do it. You know,
(47:20):
I do think as a club and as a trust,
we have a responsibility to help our residents in all
those those areas that the councilors have identified.
Speaker 13 (47:31):
So I've got a lot of things that we want
to work on.
Speaker 10 (47:34):
We want to use some pools more, you know, how
can that be a hub for the community. How can
we put on employment programs there. I still want to
do the stuff around you know, low income families doing
their free holiday camps, feeding them, But I'm going to
be I'm going to be looking at other ways that
we can engage older people, those sort of things there,
(47:56):
but it's all going to be in line with what
the council wants to do.
Speaker 3 (48:01):
Thanks for that, Sean. I'd like to have my thoughts
about the loss of himselves as well. There was a
very very fine man. You must be in bits over it,
thank you.
Speaker 10 (48:13):
Yeah, he's to be very He's one of my best friends,
you know. And you know we're a very small organization,
you know, fifteen to twenty of us, so you know
we work for each other, you know, and he was
very much a part of that and a lot of
people that he you know, would work under. Tim needs
support at the moment, and that's my role at the
(48:34):
moment to help those people get over it.
Speaker 13 (48:37):
And I have said to all of them, you know,
it will get better. It will get better.
Speaker 10 (48:41):
But the most important thing in us to trust now
is to leave a legacy for Tim. You know what
he would want and will continue doing that work to
support his legacy.
Speaker 1 (48:56):
That's really lovely, Sean, That's really lovely. So it is
Ted's prediction league. So if you could share your forecast
for the three championship fixtures, so merwill Wrexham?
Speaker 10 (49:16):
I think we're do all right there. I thought we
played okay against Coventry. I think we'll win one nil.
Speaker 1 (49:23):
And Blackburn Norwich.
Speaker 13 (49:27):
I think that's gonna be quite a tight game. I
think ends up one one.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
And Ipswich Derby I.
Speaker 13 (49:38):
Don't think it.
Speaker 10 (49:39):
Switchers set the legal lights is they've dropped down and
Derby they're doing not too bad.
Speaker 13 (49:46):
So I'm going to put that down as a one
nill win to Derby.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
Some wonderful predictions there. Thank you so much for joining
us on the show, Sean. It's always a pleasure listening
to you and you're sites. We're excited to have you
back with us again soon. And above all our hearts
go out to Tim's family, his colleagues and his friends
and to you during this challenging time. So thank you
(50:12):
for being here and goodbye for now.
Speaker 13 (50:15):
