I can catch up with you thatway. So pretty big chapter here.
There's so much happening. It's chapterthirty. This acting of several snape and
I really love that as Harry ishaving his moment of you know, hearing
Voldemort, they have the boy thatbefore he can do anything, there's a

(02:16):
loud bang and Luna's like, I'venever stunned anyone outside of the DA lessons.
I appreciate that she's the one todo this, and especially because it's
one of the few times that youknow, we kind of have I don't
want to say consequences, but likeHarry is not in a place to fight

(02:36):
this on his own because of hisconnection with Baltimore. So someone else kind
of like had to step up andyou know, take take charge. And
Luna was just like, I've neverdone this before, okay, And I
love just the very like calm andserene nature with which she disharms someone.
She's like, huh, okay, all right, yeah, I love it.

(03:00):
I'm right there with you. Iabsolutely love it. I think it's
really fun. And Luna is actuallykind of fun throughout this entire thing,
this whole chapter, because Luna, you know, she's just kind of go
with the flow. She doesn't youknow, she doesn't get too ruffled about
anything. And it is quite funny, especially since this is such a heavy

(03:22):
chapter with we know it's basically wehave the countdown clock going in the corner
from like twenty four and it's likeding ding ding ding ding ding, except
that it's Voldemort clock. You know, when is he going to arrive?
And um yeah, that's kind ofhow thought work, just have the countdown

(03:47):
clock in the background going. Umbut because I mean, Harry knows,
like he can he can feel inhis mind, he knows that it's not
going to take Voldemort too long tocheck these other places and that he's going
to be here at any moment. And on top of that, you know
they're in the raven Claw common roomand we've got the other Electo banging outside

(04:12):
the door because you know, he'safraid for what's going on with his sister
and my favorite man, I loveMcGonagall so much in this chapter and she
she they you could hear it outsidethe door and she's like, what's going
on? Why? You know, she's just got this like cold, like
steely voice of like why are youbanging on the door? What are you

(04:33):
doing? And it's just it's sogreat about you know, just everything about
her in this chapter is amazing.Yes, I this is if I didn't
already love McGonagall. This is thelike moment where and it even happens to
Harry he feels like he loves youknow, he's like he I think it

(04:53):
says something about his you know, his love for McGonagall or something gushes to
him right like he is just heis a fan. She is a just
a strong and powerful force in thischapter and you get why she's got such
restraint and it is who she is. It's just such an amazing chapter for
McGonagall and and I love it.And and there's such kind of this like

(05:15):
kind of back and forth that wedon't really get in the movie. It's
a little transactional here in parts. But you know, Electo is Electo is
trying to knock down the door tocheck on his sister and it you know,
she she kind of helps him in. And I love that with raven
Claw. I love so something Ilove about all the houses, I'm rambling

(05:36):
a little bit. I'm gonna I'mgonna run in. Something I love about
all the houses is that each ofthem clearly has a unique common room,
right, but also a unique wayof accessing the common room. Right.
So we heard that there's a riddle, and Luna answers the riddle, But
then McGonagall answers the riddle in adifferent way, and you learn that it

(05:59):
honestly just has to do with rationalizingan answer. It doesn't do the right
one. There is no right, there is no wrong, just an answer.
And I love the little thing shedoes like that. We never get
to the Hufflepuff common room, notto ruin it for anybody here, but
that's not something we ever get toexperience in these books. But we know
about Griffin Door, we kind ofknow about Sltheran, and now we have

(06:21):
insights into Raven Klawn. They're sounique that I love how she gives them.
The house itself has its own personality, Yes, and I love that
so much. Yeah, No,I right there with you. It's it's
one of my favorite things in thisIt really is just so much fun.
And it gives you know, mcgonaghaltime to kind of stall and then she

(06:46):
helps him in and you know,Alecto is talking about how Harry Potter might
try and get into the raven ClawTower tonight, and you know, Mcgonaghall's
like, why would Harry Potter tryto get in here? She doesn't get
it. You know, there's there'sanger and disbelief in her voice, but
at the same time she when shesays this is that moment where she's like,

(07:08):
Harry Potter's in my house, youknow, like there's this sense of
pride of why would in her voice. Yeah, yeah, he doesn't need
this one. He's in my house, you know, I mean, I
mean, yeah, no, that'swhat I meant. It is really great
and so um and Elector's talking aboutlike how he's going to you know if

(07:29):
oh, they can't find Harry Potteror though they'll they'll blame this on,
you know, the kids, andand McDonald was like, oh, no,
you didn't know. You are notblaming this on these kids. And
she he spits in her face, and that's the moment where Harry like throws
off the cloak and he he cruciatuscurses elector Amaicus, and it's just fantastic

(07:56):
because he's like, oh, Isee what belitic trucks meant. You really
got a mean it because his bloodis boiling with how he feels about what
he just did to McGonagall, andshe's like, why did you do that?
Why are you here? And he'slike, but he spit in your

(08:16):
face. And she's like, Ireally appreciate your you know, your honor,
but what are you doing? Yeah? I do love that, and
and she kind of debates back andforth a little bit, and you can
feel in this how she's like howhe's kind of getting there's not enough time,
There's not enough time. There's thislike you get all worked up with

(08:39):
them, right, You're like thewhole time. And it's just so interesting
because you know he's he eventually spaysher and he's like, oh, that's
right. Um. And he's like, well, Dumbledore, I'm under Dumbledore's
orders, Like this is what weneed to do. I'm under Dumbledore's orders.
And he's like She's like, allright, what do you mean?
Like that was the thing that didit, Like this was a masterclass on

(09:03):
persuading someone to do what you want. Um. And and everything kicks into
action from there, um and andthey run into someone very interesting in the
hallway as all of this kicks off. Yeah, this was this was fascinating
um And I like you said,I love the fact that, you know,

(09:24):
the moment he says Dumbledore's order,She's like, oh, what do
you need and snaps into gear.Yes. And unfortunately, like you said,
uh, they run into Snape umand he's like, where of the
carros? And I love She's likewherever you told them to be? I

(09:45):
love that her response is like what, I don't know what you're talking about
exactly. She plays that really well. It's so good. And then uh,
they they got the end. Thisis where Stape's like, well,
I got the impression that they hadapprehended, you know, an intruder,

(10:05):
and she's like, oh, really, you know oh I forgot you know.
Oh that's right, you you deatheaters. You have your own special
like little messaging system. And he'skind of like, you know, flexing
his arm a little bit and youcould tell that yes, he has felt
the call of the death Eater mark. And this is awesome too because he

(10:28):
suggests, you know, the factthat it could have been Harry Potter,
and she's like, really Harry Potter. And before you know it, McGonagall
has whipped out their wand and theyare battling together and it is incredible,
Like I loved reading this battle andthere's no reason for us to talk through
it because like you should just goread it. But it's really really cool

(10:52):
the battle that they have, andit's incredible the battle they have, because
this is like, you know, this is the moment where you lies just
how incredible McGonagall really is with herI mean, her skills, and she's
battling and then Flitwick comes up andhe starts battling as well, and it's

(11:16):
it's just so cool. And basicallythey force Snape to fly literally like she
even says, oh, he's learnedsomething from his master. Yeah, um,
And the battle is it's different thanit is in the book. Right,
we don't need to go like hesaid, we don't need to go
by blow. Um, it's muchmore exciting. Well, it's much more

(11:41):
natural, right, it's it's it'snot as duly in staged as it was
in the movie where there's kind ofthis tension and back and forth. It
just kind of happens, right,Um. And because it starts in a
corridor and then ends up in aclassroom and you know, we don't even
go to the great all right,Like it's a very different actually how it

(12:03):
happens, and then the feel ofit happening, right because it's also not
in front of a big audience andall that like it is in the movie
and the whole stick. So Iwanted to ask you because I had a
thought when I was reading this chapter. This time, she very quickly whips
out her wand and kind of shealmost initiates this battle right when asked.

(12:24):
You know, she's basically he's whenSnap basically asks her, if you have
seen Harry, you have an obligationto say something, right, he's basically
threatening her, but she instantly sortof initiates this battle. I'm curious knowing
what we know about Snape and hisoculmancy, I am wondering if he entered

(12:45):
her mind and she knew and that'swhy she started the battle, because he
would then know what she does, right, because it seemed very sudden and
almost not quite provoked enough where you'rekind of missing something, And I'm wondering
if that's kind of what happened,or at least she knew that he could
do that and therefore it was timeto battle, right. But I'm wondering

(13:07):
if some of those those higher poweredskills that we've learned about are actually in
play and we're just not experiencing them. I absolutely had not thought about that,
but I would be not surprised inthe least to find out that,
you know, maybe that that kindof is what jk Rowling had in mind,

(13:28):
you know, is as she waswriting. I mean, it wouldn't
make complete sense that that would bethe case from what we know of Snape
and his ability. Absolutely, so, um, that was one of those
things because she's not Mcgonagall's not usuallythe aggressor, right, She's usually very
responsive, and she's a defender, right like as we saw her defending her

(13:50):
kids or the raven claws in thein the common room when they tried to
throw all the raven claus under thebus. She's a very um She's a
warrior, not someone who's just beaggressor starting a fight. So that to
me, I just wonder if therewas I if Rowling was sort of indicating
there's more going on there that weshould sort of infer. But yeah,

(14:11):
it gets it gets really intense, much more so than in the movie.
And that's when kind of Harry andLuna and everything, they're just like,
you know what, we're giving upon pretenses. I'm showing my face.
We're going at this. You know, Harry kept trying to get involved in
the battle, but kept pulling Lunaout of the way to protect her instead,

(14:31):
and everyone's shocked to see him there. And it's just like reading this
chapter was like utter chaos. Everyone'sgoing in a different direction. They're just
doing what they need to do.They're starting to defend the castle. You
know, Harry and Luna need togo back to the common room. There's
just so many things. But theinteresting thing here in the book that they
completely leave out of the movie iswhat do they do with this Lytherans right,

(14:54):
Yeah, because in the movie,I think they're kind of told like,
you're dismissed, we don't need wedon't need your you here, like
please leave, yes, But inthe book they specifically call it Slughorn,
right because he is head of theSouthern House now, and I like the
way she phrases it, like, you are welcome to leave if that's your
choice. However, if you stayhere and do anything but help, I

(15:16):
will duell to you like it was. It was the equivalent of I will
cut you, yes, if youget in my way. And I just
don't think he's used to quite thatlevel of curtness. And he's like,
oh oh, and I don't believe, and maybe I missed it, but

(15:37):
I don't believe we even get aresolution on that. He just acknowledges what
she says, and then it moveson through the rest of the chaos.
Yeah, because he's pretty shocked whathe's heard. That's what's going on.
He just doesn't know, right.Yeah. One quick thing I had to
mention is so interesting that Snape bothtimes leaving the castle in the last two
books has been called a coward becauseMcGonagall yells that him twice as he's leaving.

(16:02):
So that's really interesting. And yeah, I mean in many ways McGonagall
is saying that to the slytherinds here, just Slughorn, you're either cowards and
you run, or you stay hereand fight with us. But if you
try to do anything else, likeyou said, I'll cut you. I'll
cut you, brouh and so yeah, it's it is crazy. And then

(16:22):
you know, we have all theteachers getting together and they're and they're gonna
help defend the castle, like they'regoing to give Harry the time that he
needs. And I just love itbecause McGonagall. I love what she tells
Harry. She's like, you know, um, we teachers are actually pretty
good at maxuok ourselves. You know, we'll do everything we can, but

(16:42):
this fight is coming and you needtime, and so we're gonna do what
we can to give it to you. And you know, he asks the
fact that you know if she's seenthe raven clawed Diadem, and she's like,
nobody has seen that in living memory. I have no clue where that
is. And now this is thepoint where we just kind of keep running

(17:04):
into old friends that have come tohelp all the da has showed up.
The Dumbledore's Army is here, theOrder of the Phoenix, Lupin is here.
It's great. All of the Weasleysare here, and of course that
creates a massive fight between Jinny andher mother about whether or not she's going
to get to stay. Lupin showingoff a picture of his son to people,

(17:27):
which is so cute, and it'sit's kind of a great moment here
because there's so much stuff happening, and then we have something that I think
we've all been waiting for, whichis that Percy would finally come to his
senses and realize that he's been kindof a jerk and that it's time to

(17:48):
come home. And I love thathe confesses to them. It's like I
wanted to come back for a while, but I just didn't know how to
do it. And that you know, at or fourth he had gotten in
touch with and they told him hewas here, and it's it's a great
moment, like the Weasley family isfinally back together, they're finally whole again,
and it's a it's one of thebest moments in this chapter because it's

(18:12):
really happy, you know, likeit's it's a it's a. It's a
reuniting that that you kind of hopewould finally happen, and it has.
It's great. Yeah, I Ido love that. Um. I love
that. It's it's got this realfun family dynamic because you've got you know,
Jinny kind of bickering with them becauseshe's still being treated like a child.

(18:33):
And then Percy comes home and it'sthis big reuniting thing and it's just
this like big family all over theplace, lots of stuff going and Missus
Weazley, you know, Jinny triesto sneak away during this and Missus Weasley
catches her and like it's just veryit's very much this big, happy family
moment and you're like, oh mygosh. Um. And I think it's

(18:56):
something we've all, like you said, been waiting for. But I also
think that we all know that it'snot going to stay this way for long.
Yeah. Right, you get thisimpression that it's not gonna it's still
not going to end well for everyone. Um, And so you know this
is kind of that that last moment. And the sad thing is is this
Ron is missing from this moment, which is kind of Ron and Hermione.

(19:18):
We can't find them gone off tosome bathroom. They ends with, right
is Harry's like, well, butwhere's Ron? There's all this happening,
and um, I do love thoughthat before we get to where where Ron
and Hermione went, is a Percyjust sort of like self owning what the
twins want him to say, goingthrough a list of like super hYP hyperbolic.

(19:41):
Um. He's using a lot ofhyperbole to describe his actions and what
he did. And you know, well, I think for the most part
it's well deserved. But at thesame time, I do think too he's
playing into Friend and George a littlebit right, like he knows that they
want to hear. And um,I think I mentioned Ron's missing. I
also think Charlie is not here.I think just Bill is here. Yeah,

(20:06):
I don't remember. I mean,I honestly don't recall reading Charlie being
here just yet either, So it'llbe interesting to see and remember as we
read the rest of the book ifhe does end up showing up with any
dragons, you know, m becauseI honestly can't remember even though as we're
the guys. But I think Iread this one. Yeah, yeah,

(20:30):
yeah, I'm pretty sure he's nothere in this moment, but we have,
you know, most of the Weasleyfamily. I just know if we
didn't say that, someone will someonewill point that out to us, because
y'all are awesome and all over it. Um. So yeah, but it's
this moment and there's a lot goingon, and everyone's moving around and and
uh, you know they they that'swhen you know, to your point.

(20:52):
They call back to where's Ron,where's Hermione, what's going on? And
Jenny's the one to kind of speakup and be like, well, Harry,
they left like right after you did, saying something about a bathroom,
and Harry's like a bathroom, abathroom. Um. And and that's kind
of I hope others have come tothe same realization that Harry has, um
because I'm really excited for this nextchapter. But we kind of transition from

(21:15):
there and Harry has another moment withhis scarum, which is pretty evil and
epic. Um. Well, Imean it's it's basically, you know,
me Guini and Voldemort standing at thegates of Hogwarts and and that's where we
leave the chapter. You know.Um, so the s is about to

(21:36):
hit the fan people, It's it'scoming and the Battle of Hogwarts is about
to begin. So that's that's wherewe leave the chapter. I mean,
we've set it all up now thefinal battle is about the commence. But
before we do get there, dreamif people want to catch up with you,
of course, where can they findyou? Yeah, you can find
me on Twitter at pcf check oron Instagram at Drea Kaufman and cf A

(22:00):
man and you could find me onTwitter, Instagram, letterbox, all those
places. Vero, Matt Rushing zerotwo. I'm here on the network doing
aggressive negotiations with John Mills as we'retalking about All Star Wars all the time.
It's so much fun, so Ihope you'll check that out. And

(22:22):
shows I can't even heat track thesix or two Club, which is our
general geet show, talking about allof the fantoms we'd love. Of course
there as well doing Snyder Cuts nowwith John Mills as we're talking about all
of the films and things that ZackSnyder is directed on our way to his
Justice League. You can also findme doing literary Treks and the orb.
Literary Trecks is about the books andthe comments of star Trek and the orbit

(22:45):
