A spiritual awakening is a process of becoming aware of one's true nature and experiencing a profound shift in perspective. This shift can bring about a sense of inner peace, understanding, and connection to something greater than oneself. The process of spiritual awakening can be triggered by a variety of factors, such as meditation, self-reflection, or a life-changing event. It often involves the release of old limiting beliefs and patterns of thought, and the embracing of new ways of seeing the world. A spiritual awakening can lead to a deeper understanding of oneself, others, and the universe, and can bring about a sense of purpose and fulfillment in life.

(00:11):
Everybody, and welcome to the OWLSpiritual Podcast. My name is Christian Brito,
and in this podcast, we're goingto be talking a little bit about
the concepts of life, spirituality, mental health, physical health, and just
really focusing on a personal transformation experience. For those of you that don't know

(00:36):
me, my name is Christian andI'm a Board certified behavior analyst. But
mostly I am the cliche of aspiritual being having a human experience, and
so what I'd like to bring toyou with this podcast is a little bit
of my human experience, the thingsthat I have gone through and introduce you

(00:59):
to what has caused a transformation inmy life. And so, as someone
who has had a physical transformation suchas losing over one hundred and eighty pounds,
or a mental health transformation, goingthrough things such as depression, divorce,
the feelings of emptiness and loneliness andreally transitioning those emotions or any other

(01:25):
area of my life, my spiritualawakening, my financial transformations, I really
want to just take the time andthese episodes to introduce you to who I
am and hopefully provide you a littleglimmer of hope in what is often a

(01:49):
difficult and heavy human experience. Andthis very first episode of the Owl Spiritual
Podcast is going to focus on aspiritual awakening, talking a little bit about
what that might look like. Now, a spiritual awakening is a very personal

(02:10):
experience. It is a highly individualexperience. There's no such thing as a
one size if it's all. There'sno definition, per se of what a
spiritual awakening might be. You mightbe able to google it, you might
be able to get information on whatit might look like, but it's different
for each person. And so whatwe're going to do today's talk about a

(02:35):
general guideline, a general definition ofwhat a spiritual awakening is. So with
that being said, let's dive rightin. Now, a spiritual awakening for
most is going to look like aprofound shift in perception. Okay, It's
when an individual comes to see theworld in a new, more meaningful way.

(03:02):
Now, as you hear that, you might think, oh, maybe
that's something that I've gone through. It might necessarily be something that is immediately
tied to spirituality for each person, might not be something that is immediately tied
to God or the universe or whateverperception of religion we might have, but
it might be just this awakening andthis redefinition of who we believe we are

(03:27):
and what we believe we're doing inour lives. This process can manifest itself
in a variety of ways, andlike I mentioned, there's no one size
fits all of what a spiritual awakeninglooks like, but there's some common characteristics
and experiences that many people do reportduring a spiritual awakening. One of the

(03:49):
most common experiences of a spiritual awakeningis a feeling of connectedness to something greater
than oneself. Some people might callit God. Some people might experience it
through religion. They might you know, it might be a connection to Jesus,
or it might be a connection tosomething else. Some people might feel
connected to the universe and all thatis around us and all that is within

(04:12):
us. So this can manifest withjust kind of that sense of oneness,
you know, oneness with the universe, a deep understanding or a deeper understanding
of one's place in the world. Many report feeling a sense of peace and
contentment during a spiritual awakening, asthey come to realize they're not separate from

(04:36):
the world around them, rather anintegral part of it. I think for
me that has been The best realizationthat I've had in life is understanding that
I'm not separate from everything around me. I am not separate from you,

(04:57):
I'm not separate from my neighbor.I'm not separate from parents. We're all
each having our individual experience. Yes, everyone is going through something, but
it's so beautiful when you could startto understand that we are connected, that
we're all also going through very similarthings and here at the same time experiencing

(05:23):
the same things. You are apart of me, I am a part
of you, and we are anintegral part of this vast universe. Another
common thing that people report and experienceduring spiritual awakening is just to heighten sense

(05:44):
of awareness and perception. You know, you can feel more in tune with
your surrounding. Some people, morein tune with nature or the beauty that
is around them, more sensitive tothe subtleties of the world, more empathetic,
more understanding of the feelings of others, more capable of putting themselves in
other people's shoes. And for somepeople, this can happen at an early

(06:10):
age. You feel these exact emotionsvery young, and maybe the world can
knock it out of you. Andthen you know, as you grow to
an adult, you have that kindof sudden snapping realization of hey, this
is who I am and who I'mmeant to be, and you reignite those
understandings of the subtleties of the worldaround you. Some people start to have

(06:34):
visions, vivid dreams, a heightenedsense of intuition. This was probably the
most difficult and yet beautiful part ofstarting to get in tune with my awakening
was just understanding that next level ofintuition, being able to read into things

(06:59):
that I wouldn't have been able todo before, understand my environment and my
surroundings and the people around me andthe situations and the spiritual and the interpersonal
much better than I ever did before. Just being able to see what's going
to happen next and understand the emotionsand the words and the energies of other

(07:19):
people around me with that heightened senseof intuition is kind of crazy at times.
But something else that might happen duringa spiritual awakening is it can involve
a profound shifts in one's beliefs orvalues. This is difficult because so much

(07:45):
of what we know, so muchof what we believe has been indoctrinated in
us and told to us and hammeredinto our brains from a very early age.
And when you are suddenly met withthe idea that this is not what
you believe anymore, it can createa cognitive dissonance. It's very easy to

(08:09):
see people get upset when their beliefsare challenged, and that mental conflict that
occurs when your beliefs are contradicted bynew information is not easy. And maybe
it's not necessarily even new information, but new emotions. Your brain starts to
feel wired differently because your personal identityis being challenged by a new thought or

(08:31):
a new emotional experience, a newemotional response to the threat of Hey,
this is not what school taught me, This is not what my parents taught
me, this is not what mychurch taught me. This is a completely
different emotion. This is a completelydifferent way to understand the world, to
understand God, understand the universe, understand myself. And that is very,

(08:54):
very tough. If you grow upin a specific part of the world,
if you grow up in a specificreligion, if you grow up in a
specific family, and they're taught andyou're taught this is how you need to
believe. You know, you gottavote a certain way, you've got to
go to church, You've gotta dothis with your money. You gotta do

(09:16):
and then suddenly you start to havea shift in your beliefs and values and
you start to see, hey,I no longer seem to fit with that
understanding of the world. You mayfind yourself questioning longstanding assumptions about your life

(09:37):
and reevaluating your priorities. That canbe tough, That can change relationships,
that can alter ties with people aroundyou, that can alter things that you
view in yourself. But it isbeautiful to see the changes that can happen

(10:00):
and you start to align yourself withyour actual beliefs. In some cases,
and I hear this all the time, some people can actually experience physical symptoms
going through their spiritual awakening. Andthis is pretty understandable. When you're going
through massive life changes. There canbe physical adaptations to this as well.

(10:24):
Changes in your appetite, changes inyour sleeping pattern, changes in your energy
levels. Some people may experience changesin their physical health as well. They
might have improved immunity or increased resistanceto illness. A spiritual awakening like I've
mentioned before, is a very personalexperience, and it's not going to be

(10:50):
a one size fits all definition ofwhat it may look like. But very
often people are going to report feelingsof peace and contentedness and a heightened awareness
during their spiritual awakening. This processcan invoke shifts in your beliefs, your

(11:13):
values, your physical health, andultimately, a spiritual awakening is a profound
and transformative experience that can change one'sperception of the world and our place in
it forever. Now, I wantto talk a little bit about specific steps

(11:35):
and stages in a spiritual awakening andwhat that might look like. Because spiritual
awakening is a profound shift in ourperception and understanding of the world, it
can very much have an impact thatcan change your life forever. So the
first step for many in a spiritualawakening is that we often feel dissatisfied,

(12:05):
unhappy, something is missing, somethingis off there. You might feel bored
with life or emptier, or likeI mentioned, feel like something is missing.
And that's where very often people willstart to question their beliefs or question
their values because you feel this senseof restlessness or longing for more. Something

(12:28):
more is out there, What isit I'm satisfied, I'm unhappy. That's
very often the first step of someonespiritual awakening. The second step then becomes
this process of seeking, looking forwhat is that more? What is that's
missing? Where? What is thisempty feeling? How can I fill it?

(12:50):
This is the point where an individualbegins to explore different ideas, search
different practices, find different communities, search answers to the questions that are arising
within them. In this process,a person may start reading books, they

(13:11):
might start attending shops, they mayseek out spiritual teachers or mentors. This
process is probably the fun part, right, it's learning, but it's also
a challenging part because any part ofour evolution, we become confronted, like
I mentioned, with unfamiliar ideas, that things that can be challenging to what

(13:37):
we hold dear. Very often, now when you are able to successfully challenge
those thoughts, that can be deeplyrewarding. Now the third step of a
spiritual awakening. Right, let's getto step three. All right, we've
already felt unhappy and we felt likesomething is missing. That's the first step.

(13:58):
One. Step two started to seekfor what's mitten. Step three is
that integration all right, we've kindof found some of this nudge and we
start to integrate. This is wherean individual begins to integrate that knowledge,
that new understanding, that new insightinto their everyday life. This can involve

(14:22):
questioning long held beliefs like I mentioned, and making changes now in accordance to
the questions, making changes to one'sown life. It may involve letting go
of things that no longer serve theindividual, such as relationships, jobs,
possessions. If you've gone a longtime doing life a certain way, right,

(14:48):
I resolve conflict this way, andsuddenly I'm doing it a different way.
That can be challenging, but itcan also be rewarding because maybe I
can suddenly have this specific way thatI resolved conflict because it's how I was
taught when I was growing up.But it wasn't working for me, and
I felt unhappy and I felt likesomething wasn't working and I felt like empty.

(15:09):
And now switched up my own beliefbecause I think this is a better
way to go about it. Andit's like, letting go of something that
I've held on to so long canbe difficult, but if that's not serving
me anymore, why keep it sooften we become married to habits. We're

(15:33):
in a relationship with our behavior patterns, rather than focusing on what is the
best thing that we can be doingfor ourselves, our own evolution and the
people around us. Now the fourthstep, all right, we've questioned life,

(15:56):
we've searched, we've integrated. Nowthe fourth step is the process of
living in that new understanding. It'sthe point. It's the point in time
where an individual starts to live theirlife in accordance to what they've learned.
You might have found a shift inyour spirituality, and this is the point

(16:22):
in time where you start to meditate, and then you start to take in
some of the knowledge that you've learnedand apply it into your life. You
start to manifest your reality. Youstart to create these goals in your interpersonal
relationships, You start to apply someof the conversational skills that you've learned.
This fourth step is a time veryoften that's extremely rewarding, filled with great

(16:48):
joy and fulfillment, because you're startingto live in alignment with your true self,
in alignment with who you really aremeant to be. And number five,
finally, the journey of a spiritualawakening is ongoing. So number five,

(17:08):
the fifth step is that constant evolution. For those of you that believe
in an afterlife, this is ongoing, not just in this life, but
in everything after that, that constantspiritual evolution in which you continue to have

(17:30):
these insights and experience and grow, never stagnant, never staying still, always
moving forward into this beautiful creation thatwe are a part of. It's important
to note that the process of aspiritual awakening, like I mentioned, can
look different for everyone. Some peoplemight just have a sudden rocking change in

(17:56):
their life and everything changes in fromone minute to the next. They're a
different person. So this one sizefits all definition doesn't work that way.
Now, it's not like that. But even more so, I want you
to remember that this spiritual awakening isnot a destination. You're not going to

(18:17):
wake up three, six, nine, twelve months from now and say I've
arrived at where I need to be. You're already exactly where you need to
be, walking down this path ofspiritual growth and being a spiritual being that's
experiencing this human life. It's nota destination. It's a journey. It's

(18:41):
a process of self discovery, growthand transformation. It's also important to note
that one might have experiencing setbacks. It's not a linear progress. It's not
a process that's just going to everysingle day be better and better and better

(19:04):
and better, because that's not whatlife will throw at us. You may
revisit certain steps until you continue toevolve and grow, and that's okay.
You might take two steps forward, one step back, two steps forward,
three steps back, two steps forwardagain. But as long as you understand

(19:26):
that it's not about that destination,it's about the journey, you'll be just
fine. So, in conclusion,a spiritual awakening is a profound shift in
our perception and understanding that can changean individual's life forever. That process of
a spiritual awakening can involve a lotof emotions. It can involve feelings of

(19:51):
dissatisfaction, it can involve ups anddowns. But once we experience that and
allow ourselves to feel those emotions andwe age and that seeking that integration of
those things that we learned while wewere seeking and then finally living in that
new understanding, we'll begin to reallyexperience our human experience portion of our spiritual

(20:18):
journey. Now it's a personal journeythat can be very challenging, but ultimately
deeply rewarding. I want to saythank you so much for those of you
that are here, for listening tothis podcast and for sharing this experience with
me. This is just episode oneof many to come in which we talk

(20:41):
about our lives, our transformations, our spiritual experience. So if you aren't

me a comment and let me knowwhat it is that you guys want to
talk about. Thank you so muchfor being here. Have a blessed date.
