Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hi, I'm Nicky McCoy and I'm an illustrator, fashion designer
and traditional artist.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
I'm Mervin McCoy, illustrator, storyteller and digital artist.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
For more than a decade, we've traveled in the convention
scene from coast to coast.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
We'd love to share what we've learned and are still
learning on our journey.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
You're listening to paper Podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
You hear that music, she stole it off the internet,
just kidding.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
It's spicy beats b E E T S and he
hates beats. Let's check you out that SoundCloud.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
And we're back on the paper Lapp porchcast.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
And this time we were waiting on some rice to cook.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Literally, yeah, I mean it was literal with the chicken,
and it's throw with this rise, so.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Lovely sixty nine degrees outside?

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Is it sixty nine degrees?

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:05):
Wow?

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Nice cute.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
It feels colder or cooler than that, but it.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Says it feels like seventy five, so what I mean.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
We are also not in the sun, which I'm assuming
contributes to some of that, so.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
I would agree. But okay, all right, I mean I'm
looking at that sun. It looks pretty faint. Okay, but
you know, I'll take your word for it. Miss the
weather Man, you weather wizard? You you know, do you
actually do you know who the weather Wizard is?

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Not like a DC character?

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Oh wow, okay, ye impressive.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
I know my stuff and obscure characters, you scare characters.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
I look at now these days and I'm like, I'm like,
kind of, I'm impressed. I'm both impressed with myself and
simultaneously embarrassed that I know who that is.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
So I find that interesting because we did that little
quiz some time ago. Maybe yeah, I'm like, okay.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
So you know, maybe I'll leave not it to the end. God, Yeah,
we're gonna add your quiz today.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
This this means you don't have to you don't have
to talk for two hours or podcasts aren't that long anymore.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
No, But you know, it's interesting because.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
It's cool out here, and normally at this time of year,
we'd be traveling around and you know, even for shows
we do, like a lot of we do a lot
of out to say shows every year, and we did
a lot of traveling at the beginning of the year.
I know, this is probably one of the most quiet
Novembers we've had in a while.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Yeah, we went from like semi fold docket to but
I mean, like weirdly enough, it's it's.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Filling up weirdly.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Whoa, Well, I mean I got an invitation to help
run out with something.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
But I mean no, it's and I.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Got an invitation to help a friend out too. Oh yeah,
that's spooky.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Oh okay, yes, excuse me, but that's not you know
exactly what I means.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
I know what you mean. Yeah, it's it's uh because.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
We still might often go for after Savannah, so we'll.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
See Savannah is in November, and by now we would
have done that show because we're time travelers right now.
So technically what we're talking about is the month of
like middle of October into November. And we did do
that printing show after New York Comic Con, but a
man that wasn't really that was more of a goof
to see what it was about, and we learned a

(03:42):
lot from that. But even then, it's like we we
normally would like in the past few years, we visited
people during November.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
We do like a we do like a tripleheader sometimes.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Yeah, last year we did was the Order I can't
remember anymore we did, I know, we did Arizona.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Last, went up to Portland first, then we went down
to like La yeah La.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Then we did Arizona, yeah, and then we went to
Arizona yeah yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:16):
Wild.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
It was a whole West Coast thing, you like.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Of all of them, we said cities and then we
said a state.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
We went to all of Arizona all.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
So Arizona's beautiful this time of year.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Actually, I would recommend it for it, like if you're
an artist, beautiful unit, especially in the mountains, great for
hiking and all that stuff.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Yeah, if you are a fan of the great outdoors,
you know, you wouldn't necessarily associate I feel like Arizona
with that.

Speaker 5 (04:47):
I know I didn't.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
And the amount of flora was beautiful, Like there's all
sorts of like desert plants and just like mountainous ranges
and it's it's really great. And and you get to
see all like the dry river beds and everything like that.
It's it's it's like it's really nice to like and

(05:10):
and even if you're not like a hiker per se,
you know, like on foot and everything like that, there's
literally an entire national park that you can just drive around,
which we did, and that.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
Was Laow National something.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Yeah, I don't remember the exact name, but it's like
literally like you just hop in your car and you
do this circuit and it's great.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
You get to see all sorts of like cool stuff.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
So yeah, it's the things that stand out from the
times you've been there.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
Is book Men's.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Sabino Kanyon, Swallow I think it's National Forest or National
Park or something whatever, Swarow is in the title.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
And then the Desert Museum. Yeah, the Desert Museum was.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Cool, but I think Sabino Kanon really was the one
that stuff it. Man, the Toworrow one is nicely you
could just drive through in it. Yeah, it was very
it'd be cool to get a ride with a bunch
of people that happened been there before.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
Yeah, Sabino Canyon, Yeah, it would be great to just
go with a bunch of people and take the trolley
up to the top of the mountain.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
And just hag down again, which is what we did.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
Yet.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Yeah, that was actually a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
And I think the other thing that.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
I like about that particular area in Arizona is it
feels really community based, you know, and I like that,
and actually it's funny.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
I don't know, depending on how things go or whatever.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
There's like a there's a convention or two out there that, yeah,
at the timing workout. I think there's like an anime
convention that has a very funny name. I think it's
literally called like was or something like that. I gotta,
I gotta look it up. And they have a very yeah,
they have a very funky mascot. And and there was

(06:54):
also Tucson Comic Con and their little mascot is a
heel a monster with cape, which is really adorable. But
I think it happened it like happens at the same
time as I feel like another show that we do.
So the timing like really works out for that wasted opportunity.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
It should have been a cocktoire. That's all I'm saying.
Your mascot should have been a cocktur If you don't
know where that is played some final fantasy, you'll.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Learn just stealing an entire mascot from and from an
already existing I P.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
And the other one should be a chocobo.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
Oh yeah, so we got a sorrow cactus and a
road runner.

Speaker 5 (07:29):
Got it?

Speaker 4 (07:30):
Got it exactly?

Speaker 1 (07:33):
I mean you're not wrong, but a yellow roadrunner would
the google.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Be That's a good question.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Just somebody from Tucson.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Are cute, don't Okay, what are you say?

Speaker 6 (07:46):
There?

Speaker 4 (07:47):
You go coopo?

Speaker 5 (07:49):
Did you hear that breeze?

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Guys?

Speaker 3 (07:50):
Yeah, I don't know how our listeners, all two of
them would not be like experiencing this.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Yeah, you're here with us.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Yeah, it's like you're on the porch in the moment cast. Yeah,
I know.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Yeah. It was interesting because somebody, you know, asked me
the other day what I was looking forward to, and
I was like, I was like, oh, well, I mean
in this timeline, I guess just uh, I feel like
the holidays in general just kind of blend together for me.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
These days, it's just like NonStop, how do we get Oh,
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
No, it's fine. I mean it's it's a December show.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
So I was just the swerve was just fascinating.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
No, it was just amusing because it's like it's like,
I feel like October, November, December, like the older I get.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
It's just kind of like this like blur of like
fall and color.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
I guess it's over.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
No, I mean it's kind of like.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
I feel like it's like much more distinctive, like when
you're a child, I mean, like at.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Least growing up in America, you know, because you have
like it's.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Like Halloween and then like Thanksgiving, and then like Christmas.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
And or Hanka and it's like.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Uh and then New Year's and like all of these
are like very distinctive things. But I think like when
you get older and you have to like actually like
plan for this garbage, it's yeah, it gets.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
A lot more stressful as a result. So it's like
literally like uh yeah. So it's like I have a rough.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Idea of world where we'll be in December, and even
then I don't have any idea of where we'll be
in December.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
So and you know part of that is is, yes,
you know, logistics, but also it's like you know, I'll
wait to like and you know, flights are a little
bit more reliable December. We do have to do a
Columbus show. Yeah, so that is probably the only thing
we're planning for. In the meantime, a lot of local

(09:57):
stuff probably use the time to maybe is it more locally.
You got some interesting things that we've not been able
to take stock of in the recent end of year
or fourth quarter four Q.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Oh my god, I heard somebody drop that at the
printing show and I was just like crying inside.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
They were like where you were.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
They were like blah blah blah four q's coming up,
you know, And I was just like, oh.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
My Q four Q four.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
Yeah. Yeah, that just goes to show how not corporal
I am.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
But it was funny because I made all these stories about,
like jokingly, how they were like mandatory company like breakfast
that people had to attend, like bagels would be provided,
or like mandatory company meeting.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
This wasn't sent to you, right, no, no, no, no, just
made the joke.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Yeah I was, Yeah, I was.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
I was like posting like some stories with with our
our sales associate in them, and it was like, oh,
thank you for coming to like the company fundraiser, and
then it was just like a photo of like the
gelato place that we went.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Yeah we raised funds for our bellies or sometimes.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Corporate culture like fascinates me so much, like I would
love to write like a like a I feel like
a sitcom would be really funny on it. I mean,
I know, I know it's already been done, but it's
probably just called the office.

Speaker 4 (11:21):
So you're funny.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
So I mean, what does this mean then, Like, so
we're almost at danity year. Yeah, we're not traveling as much,
So are we gonna do more art?

Speaker 1 (11:38):
I would hope.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
So, I mean, I think that both you and me
have a couple like bucket list projects that we've had
to kind of show for a while, and I'm hoping
that we can kind of like take them off the
shelf and metaphorically blow away the dust and you know,
get those up and running, because I think that's kind
of like what we're really passionate out.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
So okay, that's fair.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
It's interesting because I do wonder, like, you know, if
like do you think we'll keep like keeping keep this
period of time as open as we have this.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
Year, or or will like you know, will this just
be a one off?

Speaker 1 (12:22):
It's nice to kind of have a break.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
I mean, if I'm just being honest, like, I feel like,
especially after like New York, I'm glad that we kind
of took the time off.

Speaker 5 (12:31):
You know.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
I think.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
I think even with uh sort of the activities that
we are doing, they're not we're not committing ourselves in
the same way, like.

Speaker 5 (12:45):
You know.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
So it's like it's like I think, like other than
the show in Columbus, you know everything, I think, Uh,
we can we can hopefully have a little bit of
time to kind of relax and have a little bit
of R and R because I think that's just as
important for the creative process to you know, not be
constantly working and to have some time to like daydream

(13:06):
a little bit, to you know, read things that inspire
us to just spend time with people.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
So or even the things we don't like, like watching
Good Boy and walking out my first movie, I walk
out of it. I don't know how long, but maybe
since knowing.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
You, I've lost count of the number of movies I've
walked out of this year. But yeah, random good voy
Sworth that that was not it.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
So Good Boy is a movie. Look up the trailer.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
It's about a dog and it's framed as a horror movie. Yeah,
and the dog is going to protect the homestead or whatever.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
I'll just leave it at that.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
I'd actually meant to look up to see whether or
not your prediction was right, and you probably are on
the nose.

Speaker 4 (13:52):
But this is a good good Boy spoiler. I'm gonna
just give one right now.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
In watching this movie, like I was like, oh, interesting
concept that this, but then as it went on, it
just like wasted shots, Like nothing, nothing went anywhere. The
dog is a great actor, by the way, great maybe
it's dogs, but.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
I always assume it's dogs.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
Yeah, but really the group of dogs they use whatever, excellent.
It's just it didn't come together and we gave it
like what ten minutes, twenty minutes. And for me, yeah,
I will just sit through a movie no matter how bad.
But that movie just rubbed it the wrong way. I
think the scene where he starts feeding the dog from

(14:33):
his mouth, I was like, I'm out for me, it.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Was just like it was like things were too slow,
and I feel like it was just clumsy and it
was relying a lot on the you know, it's like
oh the dog, yeah, And I'm like, just because you
have an animal actor in it doesn't mean that you
should you know, make a mid movie.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
But you know what, that's a good point. If it
was a short, it would have been great. But my
whole theory about it, and this is where the sport
that comes in, is that so you're seeing this malevolent
force all throughout the movie, and the dogs like who,
you know, like who, and you're like, oh my gosh,
there's a devil or whatever. His owner has is sick.

(15:14):
I'm assuming maybe cancer or something, some kind of cancer.
My whole take is, every time, like you hear, you
see the malevolent force, the owner always shows up after
or whatever in some fashion, I think it's just the
owner's sickness, you know, because dogs can sense that, can
smell cancer and stuff sometimes, So I think that's what
the case was.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
So you're Nicholas reading the snaps is to tell me
how wrong I was.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
But yeah, even then, even if I am wrong, it's
just that it wasn't a good movie.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
And you know, we left and we went to go
see tron Areas.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
So I feel like, and then, I mean, I'm not
I'm not going to spoil the movie. But I feel
like you're both simultaneously right and wrong. I think it's
just depends on how much of a metaphor.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
I'm sure to do dies at the end.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
But yeah, so yeah, I don't.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
I don't. I don't want to spoil the movie or
anything like that. In yeah, but yeah, I know you're
You're not. I'm gonna say that you're not wrong in
your prediction. So if we ever, I guess discuss this
movie at like a later juncture. Uh yeah, but yeah,
I know tron Ares that's fine. I mean trend Resnor's
two hour music video. Yeah, you know, as someone described

(16:32):
to us, and I was like, you know, you're not wrong.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
That probably makes it a lot more tolerable. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I mean this is what it is. But yeah, I mean, otherwise,
are you looking forward to anything in this you the
time this other than you know, traveling to Columbus.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
Yeah, just seeing our friends, I think, whether it be
in Columbus or I know we'll probably be driving down
to South Florida as well, so kind of reconnecting with
our friends there.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
It should be fun.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
So it should be an interesting time, a special time
of year.

Speaker 5 (17:20):
Doing some trivia trivia the room.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
Okay, you should know what this is, but I guess
I'll remind you.

Speaker 5 (17:28):
Oh okay, yeah, yeah right. It all came floating back
to me. So I love DC, not in that crazy
love DC.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Way, okay, yeah, and that crazy love DC way.

Speaker 5 (17:41):
So I'm gonna name random.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
Cities around the DC universe, and you are going to
tell me the corresponding you're away. Some cities like do
double duty, some like some have been some of you've
probably never heard of. Some people have been mentioned, and
things you've read. It's as difficult or as hard as

(18:04):
you make it. I tried one earlier or two cities earlier,
which is I mean, we can redo it now or
get revisited at the end of this is up to you.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
If you'll do it after this, then you know, we
can give it as a bonus point.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
Sure, I guess if you're competing for something, all right,
So I mean some of you listen probably know, most
of you probably don't. Whatever, it's fine, We're gonna go easy, right,
We're gonna go super easy just.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
To start it off, so you kind of get the
point as you listen.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
So Metropolis, Superman, Okay, but if I said Metropolis again,
could you name another hero?

Speaker 5 (18:50):
It's fine. No, it's perfectly fine.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
And that's the thing, like we're gonna so that's cool. Okay,
super Girl, not really because I'm sure, yeah, you could
say that, I would give it to you. But technically
there's another city and maybe I'll bring that city up
in this.

Speaker 5 (19:08):
Uh, you know, you might get it.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
You never know, you know, obviously I wouldn't say Gotham City,
but if I did, you would have to name somebody
other than you know.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Yeah, yeah, really yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
That wouldn't be considered his city. He operates in it,
but that's not a city. I might even bring that
one up the.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
Okay, it's fine, it's fine, it's fine. They're just trying
to happen.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Okay, let's try Star City.

Speaker 5 (19:42):
I'll give you a clue. They had a TV show.
Oh oh my god.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
That stupid girl with this stuff.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
Well, i'll give you another clue. Wrong, wrong gender, but
that character might have been in it, but it wasn't
their ship. I will give you. I'll give you another. Yeah, Okay,

(20:20):
that's it. Yeah you got it though, Like that's pretty good.
All right, cool city.

Speaker 5 (20:34):
This is such a nerd like deep cut off.

Speaker 7 (20:38):
Try you're so angry. It's great, so much. At least
try just just throw something. Nobody.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
I'm not judging you. Nobody is judging you, or maybe
the listeners are, but I'm not judging you. This is
not even important information, Green Lantern. Yeah, but you're getting these,
that's the thing, because you've read the.

Speaker 5 (21:04):
Stump and I'm annoying maybe what you're getting them.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
Maybe it's also just because I'm on the spot.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
It's like, I don't know, that's that's what makes it
fun though, But you're literally getting them. You literally said
green a green lantern. It's okay, So I'll bring bring
back the one that we started with that that really
got you pissed because I said Central City, right, and
then you said you.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
Said flash Flash he said, and then he said which one?

Speaker 5 (21:32):
And I was like, this freaking nerd, like, oh my god,
you said the right one.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
You said barr and then I said Keystone City and
you were stumped and I was like, oh, that was
the other Flash, Jay Garrick. But the thing is you
got it right. That this is the funny that you're
getting angry, but you're getting You got all of them
right so far.

Speaker 5 (21:51):
I mean National City, Oh I don't know.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
Supergirl, Oh yeah, that one you probably wouldn't get because
is not as Also Superdrilla is operated from different areas.
For example, if I said Blue Valley, does that ring
any bells? Probably not, So that's where Wally West grew up.
That's the other Flash that used to be a kid flash.

(22:17):
But okay, this one is death has been mentioned in
a comic you've been reading recently.

Speaker 5 (22:24):
But I mean, okay, Gateway City, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Well, the best clue is that you've you've been reading
it and you know at least this year, maybe not
the last few weeks or even a month, because it's
in your backlog.

Speaker 5 (22:45):
It's absolutely yeah, but.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
No, Wonder Woman, Like, yeah, exactly what about Midway City?
This is a trick question, by anyway, because you already answered.
You already gave the answer, because this is this is
another city that one of the characters you already gave
an answer for.

Speaker 5 (23:09):
Operators, think of like five people I know, so you
have five choices? What answer? Well it was Wonder Woman,

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
