Paranormal Punches is part of the PodbellyNetwork. Go to podbelly dot com for
more great podcasts. Hey, y'all, this is Frank the Bigfoot and you're
listening to the Paranormal Punchers. Hey, friends, welcome to another episode of
(00:35):
Paranormal Punchers. I'm Mark, I'mAlicia, I'm nsh I'm Dave, and
we are recording in Dave's kitchen. So if it sounds a little different,
that's why. Uh. And we'rehere because Dave. This is a whole
episode is all because of you, because you traveled to India and now you're
gonna tell us about the mycere curse. Yes, this would have been a
(00:55):
bad episode to skip right right,Yeah, you had to be here if
you would have caught off sick right. Yeah, you know. And before
we get rolling, I want tojust clue the audience in how today's recording
is going, because we're gonna talkabout a curse. I swear this episode
is cursed. So on the waydown to realize, I forgot an SD
(01:17):
card. No problem, I'll justplug in the computer. We'll use stream
yard the record. I forgot theadapter to connect by mixer to the laptop.
Dave doesn't have any of those cables. Then we found an SD card
in a digital camera started recording, and I realized it's stopped recording because the
disc was full. So there's definitelysome brilliant things we said. Trust me,
(01:40):
there was some brilliant and funny thingssaid good on the take one of
this episode. And then on topof that, Dave got a plumbing an
issue and there was water coming outin his office. So this episode is
truly truly cursed. Yes, okay, So yeah, where did this episode
come from? So, as Markyou said India? I got to take
(02:06):
a business trip over to Bangalore,India in August of this year and meeting
with my team and and UM hadpretty good time there. UM. While
I was there over the weekend,UM, the team and I traveled over
to the city of Mysore, whichis about three hours away UM drive from
Bangalore. So the UM, whilewe were on the drive talking with the
(02:30):
team you know, said, youknow, for those that weren't aware,
I am part of this group ParallelPunchers. We do the podcast, and
UM didn't they want autographs? Whatwhat you said that, I'm curious what
you had for lunch? When youwere there because you were You said you
guys went to lunch over in Mysore. Right, what do you have?
Um? All kinds of stuff,Like every meal was like a little buffet
(02:51):
of Yeah it was day. Itwasn't a buffet. It was more of
a spring all kinds of thing. This is like a bunch of bunch of
plates, bunch of dishes and whatnot. Yeah. Um so anyways, they
probably kick you out of India.Probably mentioned to them about parallel punchers and
if there was any regional topics thatwe could use for recording, and they
(03:15):
said, oh, interestingly enough,we're traveling to Mysore and Mysore has a
curse. So that's where the topicfor this episode came from. And uh
yeah, so we'll go into ithere. It's still recording, right,
Yes, I'm keeping a watchful eyeon it. Okay, so my eyes
(03:35):
are sore. Here's where you putthe as drink. Uh there, there's
a good chance we're gonna mispronounce alot of names. Correct. Yes,
so I'm gonna do my gift here, but apologies ahead of time for anything
that I mispronounced or any of usmispronounced. Yeah, so what's the background
to this? So Mysore is theseat of the king and the location of
his palace um and it's been thatway since the fourteenth century. Way of
(04:00):
the of the of the current king. Correct, the king, the family,
the uh that's where they live correctand um so you know they've they've
had this for some time now.But in the early seventeenth century, UM,
as kings do, they decided theywanted to take over some of the
space of a neighboring king and extendtheir empire. So the neighboring king,
(04:26):
Tiramala Raja ruled over a region underthe vigi an Agara Empire and uh so,
so Raja was like a like alike a region like a duke or
something like that. Sort of yeah. Different. You know. One of
the things most people don't realize isthat um India is a huge collection of
(04:46):
tribes, families, kingdoms. Sothere's a lot of kings and right so
everybody, you know, when Indiabecame India, that just everybody came together
on that um. So in thiscase, um early seventeenth century decided he
wanted to or the family decided theywant to take her with this king and
it so happened. At the timethe king had become ill and he had
(05:06):
retired from the seat of his empireto a small town named Talcad, and
his wife took over the administration ofthe of his empire after some time.
He was wife does all the timetoo, She's always getting into business,
right. Well, in this caseit was for the better. Yeah yeah,
(05:29):
I guess yeah. Um So hiswife, Ronnie Allah Malama sorry uh,
took over the administration of that. And then at some point the queen,
the queen yep. So, thequeen got word that the king was
on his deathbed and needed to travelas you know, top speed to come
(05:50):
see him before he died. Um. So she did that. She left,
and at the same time, oras soon as they heard that she
was out, that the seed ofthe umpire and take it over. The
invaded the king and the queens.Yes, okay. Now, at the
(06:10):
same time the queen herself had umshe wore these these intricate jewels, and
the jewels themselves were offered in serviceto the goddess Ragna and Nayaki and Ranga
Niaki sorry and um uh. Thewat of the oars decided they wanted the
jewels as well. You know,no sense taking over the palace. We
(06:31):
can't have the palace jewels. Um. So they followed the queen and when
they got to the town of Talcodthey they proceeded to you know, ambuish
the queen and try to get herto get hand over the jewels. She
chose the other option of I'm goingto jump in the river and kill myself,
right, but before I do that. Wow, I don't know why
(06:54):
you that caused you to laugh.Sorry, I'm sorry. They were really
really nice. So before she didthat, as she was jumping in,
she mothered a curse that has livedon to this day. And the words
of the curse seen a couple ofdifferent versions. This is the one that
seemed the best. Maytalica turned intoan expansive sand, May Malagani become a
(07:16):
whirlpool, and may the Mysore kingsnot have any children for eternity. So
that's quite the utterance as you're aboutto die. And she first threw the
jewels in the river. And thisis a pretty big river, so this
isn't something like, oh, theywould just dive in after anything. So
that was the background of the canI interject a version of that? Sure?
(07:39):
So I so in my research,I thought it was kind of hard.
I thought I saw many different versionsof this. So the version I
thought was Raja Wadiyar was attacking theking and queen, but the king died,
and then because the king died, the queen couldn't wear jewels, right,
(08:00):
it was like part of the tradition, like, yeah, once you're
a widow, you're not allowed towear jewelry. So she then because she
couldn't wear them, she donated themto the temple and all she and then
at that point that they would adornthe statue of the goddess in the temple
with her jewels. And I don'tknow if she just kept the pearl nose
(08:22):
ring that that there was a yeahthat kept coming up. Yeah. So
when the water Yar group went toher to get jewelry, they came back
and said all we could get wasthis this nose and his pearl adorned nose
ring. And Roger was like,I ain't have none of that that.
Uh so he's so he said,yo, let's get together the crew and
(08:45):
go get it. And he sentto get sent the army back to go
knock on her door and say I'mexcuse me, sorry, no, but
when they went there, she waslike, yo, I ain't got the
stuff, no mo, and andthey didn't believe her. So that's when
she was like, peace out,I'm going to head to the river and
go kill myself because they didn't understand. They were just soldiers following their commanding
(09:07):
their their orders to get the jewelry, and they didn't believe her. So
then she jumped in the river andshe never had them because she So then
there's two different parts of I sawone where she killed herself because she jumped
in the river she didn't have anyjewelry. But then the other version was
she was covered in jewlry and shekilled she jumped in with the jewelry.
(09:28):
Right, So there's just a wholelot of different versions of this, right,
and she jumped into a whirlpool inthe river. Right. Yeah.
Yes, I's gonna say, hey, Dave, this is your topic.
No, no, no, thisis good. This is good. There.
I'm actually impressed about that. Rightthe first time the past twenty five
episode and a man explained all ofit. Yeah, so yeah, I
(09:54):
mean given that, you know howold the story is, Yeah, there
has to be different versions through youknow, yeah, right, and I
think they all lead to the samegeneral conclusion. Yeah, the big points
you're still there throughout the whole thing, right. And then as she was
jumping in in the river, youknow, maybe that's why she maybe she
had to be wearing it because itweighed her down and killed her. Who
knows, But that's when she waslike, Yo, you're gonna get a
(10:16):
bunch of dirt in there, somewhirlpools in the water, that thing.
Don't go swimming. I didn't seethat variation of the like the surfer dude,
Hell man, you're gonna get likesand forever, gonna like never sit
anywhere. You're gonna get sand inyour you know, crabvices many. Uh
(10:41):
No, I just know that Umafter she killed herself, the king he
felt he felt bad, He feltrepentant, repentant of trying to take the
water guy. Yeah, and sohe had an idol of her alamalama is
how do you say that? Okayum made in gold and install it in
(11:03):
the palace and it's worshiped as adeity. Right, So, but that's
but they worsh So fast forward tonow, you know when they're doing what
was that ceremony that they do themade ceremony. I the names are so
tough for me. You know, they do this big ceremony, but before
that ceremony, there's a little teentiny like secret ceremony. Right, so
(11:26):
this is let's tell us about that. Okay, Well, so yeah,
it's jumping ahead a little bit. That's how to mitigate the curse when we
haven't talked about the curse yet.But right, okay, okay, okay,
I'm jumping ahead. I'm really supercurious about the curse. Now.
She had uttered these words. Canyou break each one down and if it's
happened and continue to happen today, like the first part, may Talca do
(11:48):
be filled with sand and become abarren land? Correct? And that has
happened. That has happened. SoTalcad is a small town with many temples.
Man, I mispronounced a heck outof that. Actually, tell I
could do that. That's a that'sa very agent. Okay, ye know
what I was saying. So theyou'll find that like we say Bangalore,
(12:13):
but it's Bengaluru. Okay, Okay. So I was wondering that because I
was like, I have it writtendown differently, and I was I wasn't
sure if it was said different. And I honestly, you know, for
the trips that I've made over there, I don't know that why exactly if
it's okay um, you know fromthe British side to the Hindu side or
(12:33):
not, but or Hindi side.Sorry, um, but in any case,
Uh, telecad Um has very veryrich soil and is known for growing
grapes. It's also known as Bangalore'sgourmet valley. So this was not you
know, desert beforehand. Yeah, this was a really nice place and still
(12:54):
continues to be today. The areasthat get affected. Um. But at
the king um uh Tiramalaraja Uh theone that was that died on he had
his deathbed there. Um he wentto sacrifice at the temple of the Dea
severa and while he was there,um, you know, he was trying
(13:18):
to cure himself of whatever this diseasewas but wasn't able to and passed away
there. So after that's where shewent and where she was caught with the
or not with the jewels and um, the river runs near the here,
so she jumped in at this point. Um. So after this that she
cursed it sand advanced very rapidly, and the old town is now buried across
(13:41):
the stretch of sand of about ofabout a mile. Yeah. Um,
some thirty temples are submerged under thesand. Wow. Um in and only
two uh goparams, which are themonumental entrances, remained visible from the area.
Now what what is a goprum? So if you've seen a Hindu temple
(14:03):
before, Um, it's the likelike one where they did some of the
training. Wait what in the movieMortal Kombat. Then you go to the
like a dumple Yeah, okay, like one of those. Yes, it's
the ceremonial monumental entrance temple, thebig giant pointy correct. And so the
(14:24):
tops of that are the high pointsand those were sticking out okay. Um
yeah, so I came across umthat. Yeah. Every twelve years they
go in and try to dig outeverything, but the sand just keeps coming
back, right um, And Ido have a possible scientific reason behind it.
(14:50):
Yeah, go for him. Soin the seventeenth century, a damn
was constructed damn north of Talcat,Yeah, on the Kvari River, which
caused the river to be diverted. Now, this exposed a sand deposit in
(15:11):
the river, which was then allthe monsoon winds kind of kept sweeping it
over this area. So so thereis a possible reason for it. But
maybe I don't know, maybe it'scursed. I don't know. So I
kind of piggyback that with the Malakathe river, um the Milangi, Okay,
(15:37):
the Maandi river have a whirlpool turnedinto a whirlpool. Yeah, that'd
be the next part of the curse. She uttered, Hold on the river
is not the Milangi. That wasthe small village across the river. Yeah,
you're right. The Milangi is thebend in the river. Yeah,
and I think there's a town there. Yeah. Cavari is the river.
Yeah, the Cavari is the river. But the Malangi, I think is
(15:58):
like the river does a bend, and that little region right there is the
Melange, right, and the Milangibe cursed with whirlpools. So I took
it as the you had the dam, and you had the extra like sediment
in the seabed the riverbed and whatnot, and and there actually are whirlpools at
that spot. So the whirlpool thenkind of it doesn't like consolidate the water,
(16:22):
but it kind of pulls the waterback, exposing some of the riverbed
with the extra amount of wind thatcomes through there. So that's why I
was thinking. The dam helped createthe extra sand, the extra the riverbed,
and then the whirlpools kind of pullthe water back, exposing it so
that the wind can take it andbury the city. Okay, that's it.
(16:45):
Why are you like so proud forSince it's a podcast, we can
see what you're doing. I didlike a touchdown, you know. Yeah,
it's like one of the first theoriesthat didn't involve aliens or us.
Yeah. True, yeah, um, So that's that's that's really interesting,
right, it's yeah, so thatyou know that you know, this reminds
(17:07):
me of Devil's Playground, you know, cursed Land. That there may be
scientific explanations, but it's also kindof really just right here, you know
it so um and as you alludedto their nash the melange Um, you
know that it's a there is asmall village. It is also the area
um and it's across the river fromwhere the queen drowned herself. Uh.
(17:33):
It's also the deepest area of theriver, and there are it is known
for frequent whirlpools, and that thevillage itself is a roading away. The
whirlpools are actually right huh yeah,So not a lot on that part of
the um. Yeah, I couldn'tfind anything really to like expound on.
So it is not a place forswimming, correct or fishing or any water
(17:56):
sports unless you are into very dangerousright windsurfing. I guess you could probably
windsurf there, I guess because ifit's a whirlpool, you could take the
edge, and there's a lot ofwind, you know, depositing the sand.
That's a great place for wind forwindsurfing. I'll take your word on
that one. Yeah. Yeah,Well, Dave, what about the part
of the curse, may the kingof mice or be airless? Okay,
(18:18):
So this is the what I feelis the most interesting part. Um.
So, it's been nineteen generations sincewhen the curse was uttered till present day,
and in that time, um,no heirs have been produced by the
Wadiars directly, that's wild. Soit's alternating generations. King and queen produced
(18:41):
no heirs. They instead adopt achild of you know, the old view
or something, right, and thenthat person becomes the next king, and
then that person not being of thelineage can have a kid, and that
now is considered part of the wateryard. But but it still follows,
(19:03):
right, and then they can't havea kid, right wow. Yeah,
so it's an alternate generation. Yeah. Correct. Um, so this has
gone on and on and to thisday continues. Um. You know,
it's um, it's one of thosethings that I saw a quote biologists.
You know, it's entirely plausible forthis kind of a thing to happen,
but really it doesn't. It's notnormal. Well, well, but didn't
(19:27):
something happen in twenty seventeen, Yeah, T seven didn't. Didn't one of
them have a little baby? Yeah? I think the hopefully maybe the curse
is broken. Yeah, a princewas born to them on December six,
twenty seventeen and two Bengalore. Okay, this is the first baby to be
(19:53):
born in the family and people arehoping that this newborn will end this curse.
Okay it now, I was confused. I saw that. But the
current king is the adopted one,so for him to have had a kid,
yes, maybe they're jumping the gunon this one. Um. So
I was a little confused on that, and I had when I was in
(20:15):
Bangalore with the team. They saidto this day it's continuing. Um.
But the this article when I wasdoing research did pop up and it you
know, very clearly in the umIndia Times, you know, prominent newspaper.
It was they're trying to be hopeful. I think, yes, it
(20:37):
should be said that there was actuallyan air that was born back in the
mid seventeen hundreds. Um. Butum, he was both I think he's
blind, blind and deaf, yes, and did not rule for very long,
so they don't really consider that. You know, his brother took over.
So it's like so it's kind oflike creep. So you lay some
(21:00):
concrete foundation, okay, And asyou laid the foundation, it takes some
it takes some time for that concreteto fully cure and kind of get into
its own And while the curse waskind of doing the same thing. It
was curing and finally becoming solidified andnothing could get through. This little squeaker
came through and that's how he wasn'tlike, you know, he had the
issues, but he was able toskin. Squeak went in there. Yeah,
(21:23):
because it wasn't a fully cured curse. Now for three hundred some odd
years later, three hundred and ahalf years later, nothing's happening. Sure,
Nash, that's good analogy. Thecurse concrete. Now the curse,
(21:45):
uh, it was on this particulararea unless you have a note that is
it impacting animals? So I foundan article from twenty fifteen, um,
and they were like, could theroyal animals be effect did by this curse
as well? How do you thinkabout that? So there are some people
that, um, the article Ithink called them insiders. I don't they
(22:11):
feel as the palace elephants have nothad an offspring in the past twenty five
years, um, despite efforts ofbreeding, and even um the doctors say
they're medically fit to be able tohave children or babies. Umby whoa whoa
(22:32):
kind of reminds me of that scenein Mature coming out the Rhino. So
anyway, yeah, they think couldit possibly be affecting the palace animals as
well? Right? That sucks?Wow? So so when we get back
to like the jewelry, so theynow adorn, they still have the Goddess,
(22:56):
the statue that they're putting in ceremonies. So let's go back those that.
Now what happens in the ceremony, right, so that at this point
in time, the um king andqueen are pretty much, um, just
ceremonial there doesn't They have no functionof government or anything like that. And
they perform one ceremony a year, one main ceremony a year, and that
(23:17):
ceremony has a public piece to it, and I guess a private piece,
um. And they go about onthis golden chariot. It's a seven hundred
kilogram pure gold chariot that they puta top of elephant. We like the
kid and Jerry McGuire, right, you know, a human head wings,
(23:40):
um, And uh so the kingwill actually press through the public on the
top of the elephant. Well,I'll come back to that one. But
them ahead of that, they'll actuallyput the idol of the queen on the
chariot and parade her around privately. That's the that's the secret, that's the
(24:02):
private one, in order to tryto avert the curse or break the curse.
So now they've given her like allthe jewels, made, the chariot
of gold, made the statue ofgold, and then they kind of say
like, oh, always really screwedthe pooch on that one or the elephant
huh um. And now we're tryingto make amends right and obviously to this
(24:23):
day it hasn't worked. But yetthey continue to perform this right and to
try to avert the curse or makea penance or something like that. Yes,
gotcha, gotcha. Can you imaginea fifteen hundred pound chariot made of
gold. There's a lot of goldin this. It's a lot of gold
(24:45):
palace. It's it's very cool. You know. I was looking at pictures
of it and I was like,Wow, this place looks gorgeous. Yes,
at least the stuff that I wassaying. Yeah, huh. Do
we need to take a break becauseI'm about keep going, Dave. You
know, in the middle of thisrecording, you're like whispering, should we
take a break? I didn't knowwhen you wanted to cut the break.
(25:07):
I can tell like, yeah, this is the first time you had to
do all the heavy lifting. Youknow what we're supposed to do. No,
I'm missing I'm fascinated, man,I'm just glued to what you're saying.
Dave. I'm I'm glad you broughtthis to us. You got more
a couple more things, mostly aroundmy visit to my sore. It got
to go through the palace and seeingall of this. I got to see
the idol of the the Queen, see the golden chariot, see the harnesses
(25:32):
that they put the elephants in forthe procession and everything, walk through the
halls. Um. And they alsohave a huge room full of pictures of
all of them kings and their progenyand their adopted progeny and all of that.
UM. So it's really really cooland justum. If anyone's been to
the Biltmore in North Carolina, it'sone of the largest mansions in the US.
(25:56):
It looks like an efficiency apartment comparedto this palace. I can't describe
the majesty of standing there seeing thisplace. Did you go to the bathroom
there? The nice bathrooms? Ididn't. I didn't do that. I
would be the first thing I wouldwant to do, go to a palace
and go to the bathroom, soI could be like, some places have
really nice bathroom. Then we'd betalking about the curse. So you brought
(26:18):
upon yourself because you could go tothe bathroom in it and he'd be like,
Wow, this is this is thebathroom in this place, Americans.
First thing to try to plug upthe totally. Let's take a break.
We're gonna come back with some listenerfeedback and who knows what else we'll do.
We'll be right back, and we'reback, all right. And Lisia
(26:40):
knew you had a couple of thingsof other cursed rooms. Yes, so
I was like, I wonder howmany other families could possibly be cursed,
and I had quite a few thatI found. Um, so I'm gonna
start with this one. The Grimaldifamily of Genoa. They were apparently cursed
by a witch. The Grimaldi namewas cursed because one of the family members,
(27:03):
Lord Rainier the first, committed apretty heinous crime against a girl.
I think we can assume it waswhat it was really bad. Yeah wait
wait, she survived, but shethen went to learn the art of witchcraft
so that she could curse him. Now, the curse states, no Grimaldi
(27:25):
will find happiness in marriage. Imean, I would have possibly done something
right much more, but that's cool. But apparently being married us Apparently in
this family there's a ton of failedmarriages. They have tumultuous love life.
There's freak accidents, and death aswell. Um, so I just thought
(27:51):
that was kind of interesting. Itwas a witch that cursed them. But
now in two thousand and one,Prince Dipendra of the royal family of Nepal,
he don't know why he shot hisparents as well as eight other people
before he shot himself. That's allgood. Now he survived and was in
a coma, and of course he'sthe only one that's left in the family,
(28:14):
so they crowned him king, buthe had passed away like soon after
that, as the tenth generation ofthe royal family. His death marked the
manifestation of Garakhanath's curse. Now Iknow. Garakana was a yogi in the
(28:37):
eleventh century who apparently had supernatural powers. Now, legend claims that the first
king of a unified Nepal once camein contact with him. He offered this
king some food and the king refusedit, and apparently this showed disrespect to
him. The yogi told him thathis line would fall after ten generations.
(29:00):
So the fact that this kid wasthe tenth generation, and yeah, they're
done. Their family's done at least, and then the last one I have
the House of Habsburg. Apparently sufferersfrom two curses. Now Count von Altenburg,
he built a sanctuary for ravens wherefor ravens where the Habsburg I'm sorry,
(29:27):
hag Has castle was to stand. When the Hapsburg family made renovations to
the castle, it upset the ravensin such a way that they began attacking
the family. So the Hapsburg familythey retaliated by eradicating the birds. Legend
(29:47):
states that a raven is spotted rightbefore a tragedy befalls a member of the
Hapsburg family. Now in another legend, Countess Carolyn placed a second curse on
the Emily after the Countess's son wasslain on the authority of the ruler of
Frances. Yeah, Princess Joseph theAustro Hungarian Empire now France's wife. She
(30:12):
was slain, his son took hisown life, and his nephew, Franz
Ferdinand Man Yes, yeah, hewas assassinated, which led to the start
of World War One. Wow.Well yeah, thanks for those uh tidbits,
(30:33):
and Dave, thank you and allyour co workers who were in India.
Very very interesting topic, yep.On the socials, Welsh had posted
about have you ever had a paranormalexperience, and some people weighed in.
We heard from Alberto driving my tractortrailer through Yuma proving grounds. I'm so
(30:56):
sorry in Arizona at like three am. Was kind of tired, I guess,
but I was very aware of mysurroundings. I'm not speeding. Following
the post a sylumit of sixty fivecoming up quick quickly was a white wolf
on my right side. I wasfreaked out, like I was about to
hit it because it was very closeon the edge of the pavement. I
(31:18):
held onto the steering wheel and waitedfor the thumping of the hit. But
nope, nothing. Maybe he hada millisecond to move out of the way
of his truck. Don't know.It haunted me to this day. This
occurred in two thousand and six.The wolf was pure white, like snow,
and it looked at me. It'sjust creepy the truck and the truck
(31:41):
front end had no signs of ahit, no blood, no fur,
nothing. Wow. That'd be freaky, yea. I wonder if it's a
symbol of some sort. The whitewolf was that Game of Thrones? I
think so? Or wasn't that Bucky? Oh yeah? But it wasn't something
(32:02):
I saw in We heard from MissJess. My grandparents' house is near this
place called Brattonsville, which a lotof the Revolutionary War took place. It
was in South Carolina. The movieThe Patriot was actually filmed at this place.
(32:22):
You need to say. My grandparents'house is extremely hot, and cabinets
would fly open and stuff would comeflying out of my grandmother's closet. It'll
send like everything being ripped off theshells, and you go in there,
nothing's out of place. One timeI was asleep in a room and the
closet door flew open and an orbshot out of the closet. It sounded
