#242 - Paratalkradio - Special Guest Josh Bender

In early 2017 Josh Bender, the owner and builder of custom infrared lights, hooked up with paranormal researcher and investigator Justin Brown and began to collaborate on some revolutionary designs for infrared lights that were made by paranormal investigators and for paranormal investigators. What began as a hobby blossomed into a business that has hit the paranormal community like a bolt of lightning. Behold, Deadlite was born and the designs that initially were made to be customized for Justin Brown’s camera equipment became a must-have product for anyone who set their eyes on the light. Later in 2017, Deadlite unveiled the Necro design and Josh and Justin never would have dreamed what would come to pass.
Deadlite would not stop there. With Justin’s ideas and Josh’s drive to outdo himself, other features have worked its way into the Necro design. Magnetic diffusers, variable light types, variable strobe effects and even remote controls have been added to the light. Deadlites have even been installed onto remote controlled vehicles with an arsenal of data collecting equipment on board. These additions to the lights have forced competitors to copy the designs and features so they could compete yet have fell miserably short of the quality and dependability of the Deadite standard. There is no one in this industry that can deliver a product that is handmade and quality controlled like Deadlite has. The lights are absolutely indestructible, bright and long lasting.

from? When did it start?So? How Deadlights started was? You
know, I've always tinkered with electronics, you know, take them apart.
Doing stuff like that was like modifyingthings, and and I started to kind
of experiment with different LEDs and thingslike that, and it just didn't seem

(13:26):
to work well. It seemed liketo work like, you know, like
the other ones that you could buy, And so I started missing around with
some higher power LEDs and I cameup with I started making a light that
you know, it was just aproject box that you bought. And I

(13:48):
was just you know, I wasjust building them for myself. And I
used to have a podcast years agoand one of my guests was Justin Brown
from Interface Death. And after Ihad him on UM on my show,
you know, we just kept intouch. You know, he's a he's
a Cincinnati Bengals fan, I'm aPittsburgh Steelers fans or you know. We

kind of yeah, just back andback and forth. Then yeah, everybody
so and and we just you know, we just kept in touch talking and
stuff like that. And uh,you know, he had this camera that
was a white had a really wideangle lens and he's like, you know,

all these I R lights, hesaid, there's nothing, um that
will illuminate the whole view of thiswide angle lens. And we kind of
threw ideas back and forth, andI was like, let me see if
I what I can come up with, you know, uh, you know
I like to build things, SoI decided, you know, we will
we kind of come up with theidea. But um, I decided how

I was gonna make this this light, and uh, we wanted to have
the light to have a curved facebecause with the flatter face, it kind
of throws it straight out and itdoesn't spread out the light as well,
so you end up with this hotspot. Even though that if the light

(15:13):
is powerful enough, it will illuminateeverything, but it still has that really
bright center. So I made thisthis curved face light, and I also
made uh. Derek in the inthe chat there, he wanted one as
well. So I was making twoof them, and I offered to do
some drum footage for Justin at HigginSupport School in Ohio. They had just

(15:39):
filmed a documentary there, and Uh, I offered to drive up there and
do some drum footage, and Iwas going to give him his light.
So I finished it and we metup and he looked at it and he
really liked it and it worked reallywell, and he he's like, you
should say these. I was like, well, I never really thought of

it, you know, I justmake them for you know, friends and
you know whatever. But he hekind of encouraged me to sell these.
So that's that's how that got started. And the name Deadlight. Justin actually
came up with that as well.Um So in the movie It, Pennywise,

his original form is called the Deadlight, and that's where it came from.
Was was the movie it? Idon't know. We just yep,
we just spelled it a little bitdifferent. And then we put the h
the light up the night on thebottom, and and that's how Deadlight was

This is a yeah, this isat this particular one is all white,

of IR. You can also turna huge turn half of them off.
And you have also have a youknow, a magnetic diffuser to smooth the
smooth the light out, smooth anyhot spots or anything like that out.
So you have intensity adjustment on theside, and this button turns on the

second row, so when you initiallyturn it on, you'll have one row,
and then you have this to turnthe second row on, so you
have quite a bit of control there. You have a magnetic compartment. This
is about five five inches wide.Now that all the necros are the same

so you can combine IR with fullspectrum or uv um or the white the

fifty batteries. This one holds.The battery compartment on the light holds two.
So if you want to set upa light with like a static camera,
you could plug in the provided externalholder and power it externally and it

us when we have like the handon cameras, we have the stand where

all that stuff. Anyway, soyou know, whether you're using a GoPro

or cam quarter or some type orwhatever, I mean, that light would
certainly be plenty of light for AndI do have test footage with that using
using a Zoom Q two INN,which is a basically a Zoom recorder with
a ten ADP or four K versioncamera. And those obviously have to be

modified, just like the SJA camsand the and the GoPros. But I
like those. Uh, they canbe they can be a little, i
don't know how to put it,well, a little fragile because that whenever
you power the camera externally. Abig problem with them is the USB port

breaking off of the circuit board,like if you bump it, it can.
But normally they're originally designed and soldfor musicians who want to um have
that high quality sound and the goodvideo quality they can set it down.
They can hook it up to thelaptop and live stream, or they can

record themselves, uh playing music.So they're not they're not really meant to
be taking you know, powered externallyand taken to a dark place and running
around everywhere. They weren't really supposedto be mobile. But but they work
well if you're as long as you'recareful with them. Um. But I
do have test footage of something likethat, and that would be um very

comparable to like the SJ cam orthe or the GoPro. Oh San Thomas,
I hope she has a backup ranawesome. Awesome. So dead Light

is like everywhere, right, Imean, because people are buying these things

I mean I think everybody's heard ofthe name one way or another if

their preference. It's like, uh, you have Forward, you have Dodge,

I like, I really like those, and I do like. See we
have Ford, we have Ford worktrucks, you know, at work,
and and they're just no good.I'm a Ford guy and I don't have
any issues with my Ford. Nothingbut Ford. And I've never had an

have. You have different preferences,and it's you know, you can't hold
it against anybody. You've you know, a friend of mine wants to buy
a different light, It's okay,yeah, it's I mean, it doesn't
it doesn't bother me. And youknow the way things are today too,
I mean money is getting tighter andtighter and tighter. I mean we're we're
going to be at seven that's true. Trucks, but they're they're saying that

it's gonna be seven bucks a gallonand seven bucks a gallon. Do you
know how many people are just gonnastay home instead, are even trying to
drive to work because they're not gonnahaving the money to do it five dollars
a gallon. I mean, Ican remember when this happened in two thousand
and eight. I mean I hadto decide if I wanted to buy things
for my house or go to school. How high was it back then?

I don't think it's ever been.It was almost five dollars almost, but
now now it is five. Sorry, I mean that's yeah. Most places
here are five or over five rightnow. Most places aren't five now,
yep. Yeah, it's I've definitelynoticed a difference, you know, and
I definitely understand it. It's it'snot because people don't. I don't know

probably don't, but you have,you know, there there's more important things
to buy right now than you know. Survival. I mean it goes.
Hunting is a hobby. You goat the best, at the most,

but small businesses aren't feeling this,so I'm sure that you're going to as

chocolate chip cookies to deadlights. Imean if you're a small business owner,
you're gonna feel this. And Ibelieve that businesses are going to start closing,

in big trouble. But I don'twant to stay on that. I want

something that can call, something thatcan withstand the vehicle going over top of

and it's they're not really bright,but when you're in you know, just
complete darkness, it's still lights itup enough so you can see where you're

to others. So there are somecustom things that I've that I've built
UM. I've built stuff using motionsensors with uh LEDs UM. I'm in

motion sensors on it and strings ofLEDs UM. They're like a close proximity
so sensor. So it's it's differentthan some of the other things that are
out there. This this has tobe UM I'd say, within six inches
of the sensor in order to activateit. So it has to be something

alone in a room and don't goin there and then you know, leave
it in the dark, it shouldnever turn on. But you need to
use you know, you need toput a camera on it so that you
can witness that kind of thing.You need to have recorders in there.

up a string of LEDs on thaton that board and you have an EVP

sent me the video, a YouTubevideo, and he wanted me to build

and building is a lot smaller.Something you can put on a tripod.

designed specifically for for a camera,and then you get if you put a
