(01:04):
You know what I'm saying. Ilove it. Bars, Speaking of
bars, Barney, Barney is inthe house, guys. We have a
good segue to the Barney, alsoknown as Sugartne is in the house today
and to his left is the amazingj RB box give it up for j
RB bars. Hi, guys, what's happening? How are you fantastic?
(01:32):
Thank you so much for having uson this amazing segment always Hello, Yeah,
this is amazing. You guys gotup in here. Glad you guys
made it in time. You knowwe have we have some friends that kind
of just walk on in shat.So how's your day, guys? What
what's the what's your day like today? Tell me about it, man.
(01:56):
I'm gonna tell you right now.I wake up religiously at seven a m.
And I set my intentions on whatI want to accomplish for the day.
Then I take my daughter to school, and then I am an entrepreneur.
I make sure I make things happenfor the day and make sure that
no day goes wasted. Absolutely,we all know this room is full of
(02:19):
energy as far as the hustle mentality, but with balance, of course,
we have to keep that balance withfamily. Most of us have kids,
Barney eventually will have all. ButBarney, tell us a little bit about
what you do. Tell the peopleof the PHRV Radio land, Well,
(02:40):
what do I do? Geez?Don't you don't you do? Well?
I'm a musician being a musician aroundtown and I guess a little bit out
of town for like just over adecade now. Guitar player DJ. I'm
a guitar player and a DJ andNIME and I own a vintage del v
(03:02):
which is we have a vintage clothingstore downtown, proud sponsor of Mahallow Hollow.
Sorry, oh sweet, twenty sevenoh seven South Free Mon Street,
opened seven days a week. Ya, every day eleven thirty to eight ish,
every day eight ish. You knowwhat's beautiful about your store is it's
(03:25):
not just a storefront that you knowsells product of your hard earned or hard
work, because he does die anddie his own products. So tell us
a little bit about your process soeverybody knows what to expect, when to
get there. How much time doyou have all day? No, So
the premise of Vintage Delv is weis to rework and up cycle like older
(03:51):
vintage and like vintage inspire pieces suchas mainly T shirts. But you know,
we've been getting into like reworkednam We'vebeen getting into actually just reworked a
pair of Jordan's like this morning, and then kind of like anything that anybody
or everything that anybody can really thinkof. It's like, yeah, we
(04:15):
you know, my take on vintageis to conceptualize the culture a little bit.
I was fortunate to grow up,excuse me, in the era where
a lot of these pieces came from, and so like vintage delv is kind
of our way to kind of reimaginesome of that, maybe bring it back
to life, and also just kindof be a platform for creatives and just
(04:40):
you know, just get the mindgoing, to get the creativity and the
spirit's gone. Well, what's coolabout his shop is it started off in
a little Stworage unit right back intwenty nineteen, twenty twenty. Yeah,
this is definitely a COVID hobby turnedbusiness turned out and how amazing is that?
So we have a lot of entrepreneuror is that you know, really
stepped out of their box literally becauseyou came out of that box to go
(05:04):
into a shop, you know whatI mean? Yeah, Jay, tell
me about what your what your yearis looking like. I know you are
an entrepreneur and dad and just workinghard to get your artistry out there.
Do you have anything coming up besidesMahallow Hollow on the twenty eight? You
know, honestly, I am inthe universal headspace of just healing and strengthening
(05:30):
everything that I've become so far.A lot of it is taking a step
back and really seeing how much timedo we do have and how do we
dedicate ourselves to the time that wecan have for ourselves and for our families
and for our loved ones. Soit's a lot of investing into new avenues
and always thinking outside the box andnot feeling too comfortable with what we're working
(05:54):
with in the city, but whatwe can utilize and really grow and kind
of just keep progressing, because whatI've been seeing lately is the younger demographic
having a huge advantage, and Ilove it because we are inspiring to them.
But to set that tone, tokeep setting those expectations, we're going
to have to keep up in ourgame within ourselves and our brands and our
(06:17):
content and our visions. So it'salways been a beautiful feeling lately that I've
been really taking a step back andunderstanding certain things, and I'm loving it.
So I beat box, And withthat being said, I beat box
and collaborate. I beat box andcontent create, video editing, you name
(06:38):
it. I become a very visualspirit, and I love it because I'm
there for others as well as it'svery healing for myself. Keeping the creative
juice is flowing is very healing tome. And that's what that what makes
me happy. Those are that's whatkeeps a smile on my face and me
wake up every morning and keep pushingand grinding and trying new things, because
(07:00):
you never know if you don't push, you never know where it's going to
lead you. You know, andpeople around you look at you. We
look at each other, and we'remirroring each other, and we're bouncing off
energies. So we can't keep eachother inspired and moving and innovative, then
we're gonna you know. So thosethings have been happening. That's my world.
That's what the year has been bringingme. You know. I've even
(07:20):
got to work with this amazing brotherright here and with his business and really
feeling like a brand ambassador, youknow, and and it's a representation of
culture and class, but then againa very authentic experience, especially when you
walk into the store. You know, it's a it's a huge honorable feeling
making sure that people walk out thedoor going home and like yo, I
(07:44):
got this from this and we wereDJing and the dude was beatboxing and we
saw some kicks and we're gonna tellevery and it's cool because we're trend centers,
you know. You know, it'sgreat about you guys, and you
know we kind of run and werun in the same same circle. But
creative wise, it's not one thing. You guys are constantly evolving and also
(08:07):
collaborating and really encouraging one another toreally grow, you know what I mean,
friendship and business. You got toreally find those people in this niche
market, especially you know, ina small town like Vegas, you know
everybody, so you've got to partnerup with the right people and you know,
do it the right way. Right. So, speaking of businesses,
(08:28):
we also have a T shirt designer. Let's talk about it and designs I
got you growing. It's actually mydaughter. She actually she's nineteen. She
was born with physical and special needs, but she's found a way of expressing
and it's through art. She wasself taught. She actually designed this shirt.
(08:50):
She actually drew you create and sowe actually that was actually during COVID
too that we were like, okay, you know what, you know,
she wants I was. I wantedto teach her and be like, Okay,
I want you to be your ownboss, because it's like she's very
creative and she's like a master atthis, but when it comes to she's
kind of socially awkward too, soshe's like, no, you know,
(09:13):
so I said, I said,baby girls, so let's let's do this.
And so we kind of collaborated withanother company here, but they just
pretty much print the shirts. Butit's like an online for now. But
then we were able to go toa tahesion competition get some shirts made,
and you know, last time Tonyhad like the Haitis, we had Tahiti
and the Philippines, and so onlinewe have we have Donga, we have
(09:35):
Fiji, yeah, Hawaii yep,and so we're just excited. Haw I
like being in a room full ofIslanders is the music because I'm on the
other side, I'm Puerto Rican andDominican, but through association of my daughter
being Hawaiian and Filipino, Yeah,it's a wild mix. I feel like
(10:00):
I feel I feel like I've beeninitiated, and then I'm like, oh,
I'm in here? Where did Ihave kept coming back to that?
I just did that too. Shesaw and I went, oh, no,
I don't know, I said,I don't know. I see it
when I was little, but nowI'm a little bit like weary, but
you know, let's let's do it. Bullet. Did I just americanize it?
(10:26):
Love eating contests in here? Ithink we should like something for the
extra more like stack. If youblindfold me and I don't look at it,
then I'll be Okay, I'm makingsomething. You know, God,
all things are possible, I guess, but you know, but yeah,
she designed that, and so it'samazing we did that. And I've been
(10:48):
really blessed to just launch out.I'm an MC for our Polynesian Dance group.
This past year, I was ableto really expand and offer my MC
services to other venues and events, and so everywhere I go, she goes
with me. And so it's like, you know, I represent her and
we represent each other, and we'rejust you know, being able to collaborate
and come in and you know,I look forward to even more collaboration because
(11:11):
we all win. Yeah, Imean, we're all winning together. And
that's what I'm excited about. Whatdo they say, A rising tide raises
all ships come on and I believethat I love that absolutely, and this
canoe is going to keep. Andas for your daughter being awkward, and
that's a beautile man, Awkward iswhere it's at. I'm like, if
(11:35):
you won't have some type of likeboundaries with your energy and how you communicate,
how you're going to stay a creativesoul and a lot of amazing creative
souls are awkward. And I'm actuallya real big introvert, Like this is
a j r. Beat box.Was was established at a young age of
(11:56):
out of into out of high school, into college and building this brand of
this name. I had to becomesomething because I was I was psychologically you
know, I was a Slatin kidwith curly hair, you know, and
I was like, but what atalent And I'm like, man, but
through business, I've understood how toreally market it and and honde it and
(12:18):
keep it going and create that brandand be that brand and over time it
just stuck. So, uh,my persona was smile because my smile was
the thing that everybody told me thatwhich is shining. Like, dude,
you can change as many body formsall you want. As soon as you
smile, people remember you I'm right, and that's really cool. Yeah.
(12:39):
But with that being said, beingawkward is beautifully because I'm a huge introvert,
but as a j RB box,I'm like and then I'm like just
chilling in the back, like howare you doing? That's just like I'm
just like like press the button. It's so cool. I Also I also
(13:01):
think that, like to piggyback offof Gr's point, the whole awkward or
just the socially awkward thing is likeit's kind of refreshing, especially in twenty
twenty three, when there's like athere's seemingly like a filter on everything,
yeah, to where like it's almostlike like awkward kind of works as its
(13:22):
own filter, Like oh wow, like that's not that's real, right,
that's authentic. I think that's yougot to make sure that. Yeah,
you're protecting and you're discerning. That'sthe word of the league. I think
you know who you're speaking to,especially you know, when you're meeting people
at a rapid you know, timeframe, You're just like, all right,
I'm meeting so many people, Likewho are you going to let in
(13:43):
and who you're going to show?Firstly, er obviously you want to be
as genuine as possible and show yourtrue self. But yeah, you got
to have that. Yeah, weneed authenticity. How many of us to
step on too and step into anevent? And it's just like we have
this switch that constantly was on andoff and when it happens in and out
of conversations. But what's important too, is like you got to stay president.
(14:07):
I think like when you are inthat big forum, like when you're
a performer, like JR. We'reall performers here, right, so we
get on stage or we're producing,we want to be able to like kind
of pay attention to who's right infront of us, like not get distracted
into what's going you know, what'sgoing to happen next. It's very important
because I feel like people get distractedso easily, like oh, I'll talk
(14:30):
to you later. Well I'm righthere right now. Let's have a conversation,
you know, in front of you. So yeah, I think Tony.
Tony had me dying laughing, ButI do know this amazing let's talk.
The whole co host was all overthe place, and I don't know
(14:52):
how many switches she had. Shewas a human soundboard. She just switching
on and off She's like, oh, hi, welcome, all right,
who's next? Okay, cool vendors. I was like, whoa. But
those are the kind of things wherelike it makes us yeah, you know,
and when you have a great cohost like JR. Box, it's
(15:13):
easy to like just keep the showflowing and good energy, good vibes,
and you know mc les is gonnatake over. She's really happy. She's
like, I'm passing the baton.I said, don't stay far because we
will pull you back up doing that. But I'm really excited. It was
actually through the Maui fundraiser that's howwe met, and so we just she
(15:35):
found me. I was reaching outfor them and she found me, and
now we're just stuck. And it'sjust, you know, are the same
heart because when you do whatever event, you haven't we had the same heart
to make it successful, to reallyreach out to the community of Las Vegas.
And from then on, she waslike, oh, we gotta we're
gonna run, and I was like, oh, we're running, We're gonna
(15:56):
we're gonna rise. And so we'vejust been we've been keeping on going and
it's just been a blessing. It'sbeen more and more opportunities, and I'm
just really blessed. I'm excited.I'm just happy all are in the same
room finally, because we went toVINAELV a couple of times. You weren't
there, Bro because you're busy rightnow. Yeah, so I'm happy you
(16:18):
guys are. We're in the sameroom together. I actually went to Downtown
Container Park the first time. Inthe first place I entered was MINTAGELV and
I was like, Oh my gosh, it's so cool in here because it
was a hot day and we're lookingfor everything and I was like, oh,
this is nice, and I waslike, literally cool. We have
we have probably top top two bestAC units in top two winter though that's
(16:41):
that's a different story. Yeah, that's Coogie Sweater. It's going to be
the thing that Georgetown a lot ofjackets, a lot of Jagget's. All
right, I love it. Well, we're talking about Mahalow Hollow LV because
the program is Mahallow Hollow. Andthen but October twenty eighth, we have
JRB Box and MCS on the mic. They're going to be hosting our show.
(17:04):
We are so excited because one theyare just all around good people,
good energy. It's going to besuch a great day. Shouldn't be too
cold, right, I'm hoping trenchesfirst. It was nice though. I
think how mother, how the mothernature has been treating us with the weather.
(17:26):
We may get fortunate and still havefrom prolonged heat. Yeah, anticipate
that. Yeah, knock on wood, Yeah, for sure. And Sugar
Tone is going to be, youknow, blessing us at the end.
Towards the end, he'll sneak inbecause he's also doing the summerline. Uh.
The marketplace similarly, we do thatmarket every every six months or so.
(17:52):
So unfortunately it falls on the sameday. So it's all good.
Four different places that day, butit's all good. We'll make it work
different places. Like you said, hop hop up. Yeah, we're gonna
hop hop hop hop everywhere. Weknow how high gas prices are going.
Yeah, I know. Electric scooterman buff Puerto Rican, just a buff
(18:18):
left leg at be like be boxingon the Yeah, that'll be cool.
Well, I'm really looking forward tothis next one just because you know,
it's it is a little cooler. Our last one was really hot. That
Maui Strong fundraiser was warm, butyou know what, they weren't hydrated.
(18:41):
I mean some people unfortunately, likesome people did kind of like you know,
you know, need some more hydration, and so they got they got
attention to so that was really good. But overall, I think that the
success of just coming together that wasreally a blessing. So let's just hope
that you know we're coming down todaywas actually really cool. I mean,
I mean, I got my sweateron, I'm like here, I was
(19:03):
like wow, and it's cool insidehere. So we're really grateful. Yesterday
at war, yeah, we're kindof I don't know why. I can
imagine you walking around container part witha giant water gun, oh man,
like a super so thousand double barrelwith like nine point five pH level walk
(19:25):
that line water. You never knowwhat's going to happen. Allow, you
never know what's going to drop. You gotta how do I watch? Any
sponsors? You are more than welcometo message. I have an exciting something
to bring up. Our brother here, Barney Chigato and is going to get
married end of the year. Weare so excited for this exciting news.
(19:51):
What's not news because we on themonth two months left. Actually I got
a pretty uh, pretty firm remindertoday that we are seventy days out seventy
seven zero, so you know he'scounting. Yeah yeah, and as a
(20:11):
groovesman, I get those reminders. My cousin day he was like, I
was told to tell you that Ihave to go get fitted for my suit
this weekend. Like, yeah,I can wait to get married one day,
but the stress level, it's notready ready. Yeah, it's I've
(20:33):
been married for twenty one years.Oh hey, I'm a tribe here and
also like twenty one years and yeahhe's still there, so my god,
yeah, you know what I mean. No, but it's just you know,
it's it's it's it's constant work,but it's a wonderful work, you
know. And like you said, when you love, it's not only when
you love something or you love whatyou do that makes you happy, but
(20:53):
if you love the person that you'reliving with and you love doing life with
them, then that's it takes somework. Sometimes you'll you will clash,
it will, yeah, you willbump heads. And Tony knows this too,
so we been but you know,I'm still here. And you know
that's why our husbands were like, okay, I'm going with Tony. Oh
they're like, okay, bye,We'll see you tomorrow in the morning.
(21:14):
We see in the morning and we'relike okay bye, Like okay. But
you know, I think it's Iknow, it's a blessing, it's a
new season, it's something to lookforward to. In the meantime, Keep
loving what you're doing. And Ibelieve that, you know, God will
bring the right one to you andyou know, and all things will come
together in the right time and right. Well, what's cool is adulting,
Right, we're adulting here. Butevery time I get together with creatives,
(21:37):
I feel like I'm childlike again. Is that true for you guys? I
feel like we're just you know, having a conversation over like sandbox, you
know, Sandbox Como. But no, And for me, it's important to
go back into your childlike imagination andalso, you know, a little bit
more playful because if you are alwaysadulting driving in traffic, upset at you
(21:59):
know this and that, it's justit's a different you know, it's a
different category. I enjoy you guys. Thank you. I'm a dreamer,
a big Gema pisces. So alot of my friends that are really into
horroscopes, they grilled me a lot, unconditionally and a little too much,
but I like it. They're like, they're such a p you're such a
dreamer, and I'm like, I'mlike yeah, but you know, being
(22:22):
with such a realist for a verylong time taught me a simple balance of
maneuvering in life. And you canbe creative but have the responsibilities but own
the opportunities that are given to youand kind of just like hop back and
forth. So I always teach peoplebalance, you know, it's so important.
That's why we stay on our fitnessand our self health goals. You
(22:45):
know, however, running up mountainsor him in a box like I'm a
running it's like I'm an NFL athlete. I was like, I literally started
doing weird things just just because Iwant to keep my heart rate up.
But anyway, self care and allof this stuff is crazy how all this
stuff just works and it's very cohesive. Yeah. And then to add to
(23:07):
that, you just got to bearound like minded people. Yeah, you've
got to be in that space becauseif you are the you know, and
I hate going back to this now, I don't hate, but I don't
try to stay in that. Butif you are the smartest person in the
room, It's like, how areyou going to learn? Where are you
growing from there? Right? Soyou got to kind of find where you
fit in, not getting where youfit in, but find where you fit
(23:30):
in and then see where you canbe used as well. Like I said,
it's important to be fat, flexible, available, and teachable. So
it's always important, absolutely, butthe good fat, Yeah, I need
to get on this good fat level. Like you enough mountains, And I
was just like I hear you,I hear you. I'm gonna I'm gonna
get no, I think, liketo your guys' point too, like what
(23:53):
we all have like in this everybodyin this room has different avenues of whatever
we do. Like I'm in Iso happen to be in the music and
fashion and you know JR. Withbeat boxing and with like hosting and him
singing and Tony with like synthesizing allof that. But we uh, like
(24:17):
I always look at it like I'mnot in the T shirt business. I'm
not in the music business. I'min the creative business. You know what
I'm saying. And when you're inthat world, like like maybe in one
instance, our our our way ofbonding is through a T shirt or maybe
in one another instance, our waybonding is through liking the same song,
(24:37):
you know what I'm saying. Soso I think, like you know,
being in a like minded community justhelps just grow everything, like all all
all facets of creativity. And Ithink I think that's like we got to
keep that going, like you gottagrow, you gotta flow. And I
(24:57):
feel like is gonna definitely bring thatout of the day. You know,
it's going to have a lot ofentertainment, a lot of acts and different
personalities, vendors, demo demographics ofall ages and just business like minded people.
Yeah, and you know, youguys all know I'm in real estate
(25:18):
and we invest in I sell realestate. But that's you know, fun,
but the creative part where I canmeet people on that next genuine level
of creativity and be able to kindof be a conduit to know how we
can present it to the world atits best. So, anyway, do
you guys have anything to add, like any special thing? Where can we
(25:42):
find you? Sugar Tone performing,I g I post updated chigatone Music and
also Vintage dev Like I said,We're at the container park on the second
floor. Come through and see me. I'm there like every day, so
come through and say hi, andhow can we find j A y r
(26:03):
Beatbox on all platforms? Once again, j A y r Beatbox? How
does he do? And who areyou? I'm currently working on from on
the on a lot of back endprojects I like, I like to take
again. I go back to takinga step back, uh, seeing what
I'm working with, seeing how Ican better myself, create creatively, and
(26:27):
then come back out into the limelightand illustrate my art form some way,
somehow through the community. You know, we have to save our energy at
all times. Shares all over theplace, though, I feel like,
you know, I'm deep in alot of projects in a lot of people's
lives, and it means a lotbecause subconsciously I know how much weight I'm
(26:48):
willing to take on, and it'sjust it's just ciphering out the people that
you're carrying too much on and makingsure that you're you're good and we're strong.
And it's been a beautiful thing.I partnered up with with Sugar Tone.
I partnered up with my good friendVerblation the beat box community. I'm
a huge influencer with the under theyouth beat box community in Las Vegas with
(27:11):
surprisingly is like ten kids out ofhigh school. They are going to be
the next generation of beat boxers. They're going to be paving the way for
Las Vegas. And I was I'mable to be a huge influence on that
and kind of put my footprint intothe city and then taking a step to
the left and being in the corporateindustry and building a substantial amount of repertoire
(27:37):
of creating those relationships because as weget older, we're just gonna keep progressing
and I want to be able tokeep rising as we get older. Age
wine, you know, there wego. So what what Jrre saying is
he's the godfather. I will takean innovative I am the most innovative uh
(28:00):
beat boxer in the city, andI will own it because I feel like
nobody has That's right, Hey,and you have you have a fan club
over here, you have support, you have you know, your foundation,
you do that on your people.Oh wait, what are we talking about?
It is that you know? Ifeel like I'm more of that because
(28:22):
because I've come into this era, like this area, this this space at
a at a more mature age,I'm probably the oldest one in this room
again. But you know what theI really I think about like a Vera
Wang and all these people, It'slike it's the right time, in the
right season to know who you are, claim claim it and walk in it
in confidence and security. And soI'm really excited to just be along side
(28:45):
a lot of great people and collaborationbecause this collaboration over competition, you know
what I mean, Because there's onlyone you and there's only one me,
and all we're going to be isgreat together. So when we can it
happen again. We have the amazingBarney All so Nona Sugar Tone, I
can catch him on I G.We have j R B Box. But
(29:06):
you know what, before we go, let's hear a little bit of uh
some sounds that come out of thatthat vessel there, and then maybe mc
level lips might be able to freestylehow or maybe you didn't bring your guitar.
I didn't hear my itar air guitar. Bro let's go. I just
want to hear the beat. Yeah, oh yeahllow mahallow, hollow mahala.
(29:44):
Helloo, don't be late, It'sgonna be great. Come on, come
on, everybody mm hmm, comeon, that's what's up. Yeah,
(30:11):
that is j R Beatbox on themic. Y'all can catch him at jrbt
Box on ig Shaga Tone. Anamazing episode, another amazing episode with you
guys. Thank you for tuning in. I'm just blessed to have this platform
to speak to amazing, talented, amazing human beings, So thank you for
(30:33):
being here. So again, MahaloHollo LV. Yeah, taking place October
