Oh my gosh, it was afull day. Yeah, tell me
(00:31):
a little bit about it. Fullday. I mean, lots of things
going on from the beginning of themorning, you know, because of course
we do have children's I know,I look so young. Children go to
all these other just meetings and eventsand planning. I mean, it's just
so exciting, and the most excitingthing is mahalo hollo. Yes, everybody,
October twenty eighth, It is comingup very soon. We are so
(00:54):
excited, and we are especially excitedbecause you guys are in for a treat.
We are so excited for this showbecause one, we are wearing our
shades today. It's a bright dayoutside. It's been quite warm. But
you know, we had lunch todayat the Pepper Club. Yes, wonderful
Chef Roman. Yes, yes,he is phenomenal. The food there.
(01:17):
If you're in the Las Vegas Era, you need to stop by the Pepper
Club because they are they sprinkle more, They sprinkle love, sprinkle pepper right
over you. We're a little spicytoday. You know why we have our
shades on. It's not because weare shining bright leg diamonds today. But
also we have an amazing show foryou guys. You know, it's just
(01:40):
it's a privilege to be on thisshow. PHLV Radio. Thank you again
for having us a platform to reallyshowcase, you know, talent businesses and
services here in Las Vegas and ourfill On community most of all, that's
right, and I am so blessedto be here with my siss and my
co host mc lepe Ups because youknow, we're able to really connect with
our community and really outreach and justyou know, show the love that we
(02:05):
all deserve, you know, inour in our craft. You know,
we're both in the entertainment slash uh, you know, professional business as far
as our careers are, you know, concerned, we we want to make
sure that we are sharing the lovefor those that are pursuing those endeavors as
well. So yeah, so whatdo we have going on today? I
(02:28):
am really just happy because you knowwe're talking about we're not shining right,
like diamonds. But guess what,we have some diamonds in the studio this
afternoon. Ladies and gentlemen, pleasewelcome the one and only Amazing the Dynamic
Duo. Yes I am talking aboutinter Well, yeah, we're so excited
(02:54):
to have you guys here. Butbefore we have you guys talk, I
want to go into just a quickintro. You guys are two thirds of
the Amazing Trio are in the topR and B group that I grew up
listening to. Okay, I meanwe're in the same you know, age
range. But you know, wewere really lucky to have seen a lot
(03:15):
of the philm talent you know, come up together. Right. Yeah,
and you guys were one of thefirst to get on the radio. You
guys had a top one hundred Billboardwe did, right. It's an amazing
moment, an amazing experience. Ifwe could talk more about that for nine
weeks, right, So tell mehow what song? I know what it
(03:38):
is, but you guys tell methe story and how your career you know
is was and how it started upuntil now let's get into storytime. Storytime.
Yeah, well, the song wascalled the song is called I don't
want to Go On. That's thesong that we're most known for. And
really it all happened in like myapartment, in my room when we were
(04:00):
all just vibing, me, Cyrusand James were just messing around on the
keyboards and just vocalizing, and justfrom everyday practice, we kind of came
up with that song in our room. And Eric's always been a little bit
more talented than us when it comesto the singing singer songwriter thing, you
know, because Eric was the leadin doing that, and so he was
(04:23):
a big part in writing I Don'twant to go On. And it's amazing
that that song ended up becoming aBillboard hit. But the way that it
happened was, you know, therecord did get released, and I remember
when it first came out, itsold out and it was like top three
I think, I like a BayArea chart, right, And that was
just the first indicator like what theheck is this happening? And then next
(04:46):
thing, you know, like youknow, back in those days, there
was Sam Goodies and the record warehouseto touch on that. It was top
three, but what we from whatI remember, it could have been a
lot higher. They just ran outof product. Out of all the stores,
which is crazy when you think aboutit, because now no one runs
out to the stores to buy CDsanyway, right, Oh, I know
(05:09):
it's all tangible now, it's likejust pressing button, right, so that
happens. Yeah, and then buthe's more the modest yeah kind of yeah,
yeah, definitely more in the loudmouth. I mean, you know,
you know at you can own it, that's all right. Well,
(05:29):
really I became the writer because youknow, if you notice, a lot
of our music is heartbreak and Igot a lot of that, so and
that really comes through in the musicwhen you when you listen to it,
absolutely, so, you know, growing up obviously we listened to like the
svs, you know, instincts too, like later on in life. But
(05:50):
with you guys coming up, whowere your biggest influences? I know,
mean condition is up there, Condition, I mean the almost obvious boys to
men. You know, with usbeing a trio, we were harmonies were
a big deal, yes, andthey were they were very very you know,
that was definitely one group we lookedup to. New addition edition Babyface,
(06:11):
he's the goat. Oh yeah, you know, I when whenever I
tried to write music back then.I was, you know, I was
thinking about baby Face and mind andand and the way he expresses himself through
his music, and I would Iwould try to do the same. But
Stevie Wonders another influence in Michael Jacksonbelieve it or not. Yes, and
you know you can't forget about youknow, even in Houston, even though
(06:32):
she's a But it was just allthe music that we grew up with at
that era. I mean there wasa lot of great singers the fields,
that's right, Yeah, exactly exactly. So tell us who you guys have
had the privilege to share the stagewith or open up for, because I
know you guys have you know, you guys have some big names under Yeah,
I mean this is the fun part. We love talking about this because
(06:54):
you know there's so many like pinchedmyself moments? Is this happening kind of
thing? You know, But youknow, one of the biggest obviously it
was in Sync and so wow,you know, and Sync was one Destiny
Child, which was when that waswhen there was four of them at the
time, so that was cool,I mean, going right, I mean
(07:17):
we had genuine basically if you listento nineties R and B. We basically
pretty much performed with a lot ofthose a lot of ninety nineties R and
B artists that you listened to now, you know what I mean, you
listened to those nineties R and Bplaylists. When we go through them,
we're just mobbing in the car, like, hey man, you remember when
we performed with these guys, likewow, you know. So it's it's
(07:38):
it's a blessing and too. Likerecently we did a show with rough Ends,
and yeah, we love rough Endsand it was great to Yeah,
we connected real well. We exchangednumbers and he was we had a heart
to heart conversations and it's it's crazybecause we all come from that same era.
We're still doing the same thing andit's just awesome that we get to
(07:59):
reach connect with all these artists thatsome you know, some that we haven't
met yet, you know, sure, I mean, let's tell them a
fun story too. I Mean, there's other artists we've grown up with,
like Tony Braxton right and right andgrowing up or be living in l A
you have, you know, there'sa lot of opportunities to run into artists
and things like that. But youknow, Eric's also a DJ on the
side, you know. You know, in Vegas, I do, I
(08:24):
Do, I do. I DJat the Sahara Casino at the Cashmore Lounge,
So yeah, you can catch methere. It's true. But my
career did start in l A.And one of my biggest opportunities intunities out
there was when I DJed thanks aprivate Thanksgiving party for the Tony Braxton's family.
(08:45):
So basically I got to go everysingle I'm just saying, I'm just
saying, well, the cool thingwas not only was there to be a
DJ, but they wanted a karaokeparty because they're the Braxton sisters always,
so like I was like, whatthis is you're gonna get We're definitely going,
you know, I mean, youknow, I'll be one of those
(09:05):
that will be like quiet pushing inthe back, that will blow it up
and carry out, you know,Like little did they know their DJs actually
can sing, you know, butyeah, we were just DJs in their
eyes when like so I'm here sendingup the equipment and I'm like, hey,
James, let's let's do sound checkreal quicks because they're not They're not
gonna know that, they don't knowanything. So so check this. So
(09:26):
I put on Unbreak my Heart ofAll Things right because testing. So James
starts singing it. Tony Braxton comesout. I see her in the corner.
She comes out with her camera andshe starts recording my brother. That's
awesome, Like I can say thatthat's better than being backstage at any concert
or at meet and greet. Iwas in their home, like in their
(09:46):
most intimate moment. It wasn't gradedmoment. Yeah sure, Tony Braxton is
just yeah, she's go tests, you know, like she's the queen.
And I feel like if you arein someone's home and you're providing that you
know, service and that experience, and then you get to show up as
your artist self, like awesome, that's such a great experience. Thanks for
(10:07):
sharing that story. So what elseis up for you guys? I know
you guys just performed at the GardenAmp and Cali. You guys were in
Daily City just recently for the wasthat Phil Daily City? So you guys
(10:28):
fly back and forth. Let's talkabout Cyrus. He is your third member.
I know he's still in the BayArea. How do you guys you
know, coordinate that? Are youguys usually two out of three three three
thirds, Like, I'm very right. I mean, so you know we're
still a group. You know,we're still the trio, but you know,
it is hard because he's in Sanfrancisc adult and we're in Vegas and
(10:52):
yeah, we're all adulting now,so you know, when he can be
there, he'll definitely be part ofthe show. So sometimes you'll get two
of us, sometimes you get three. But no matter what sure you go
to, it's going to be agood special guests with us. So that's
true. So how did you guysform your trio or how did you form
(11:13):
your group? Originally? Well, just again, it's just we were just
high school kids having fun. Youknow, we're trying to mimic the groups
that we saw on TV. Soagain, it just started out just hanging
out at my house or at ourhouse. And in fact, at first,
my brother was trying to get inthe group, and I was just
(11:35):
ignoring him. I didn't know hecould really see it of friends, like
why trying to hang out? Right, So that's how I saw it at
first. And then yeah, soyou know, so eventually obviously, you
know, my brother made it inthe group. We held tryouts because we
(11:58):
thought we were cool holding tryouts andstuff like that. At one point we
had five members, then we wentto four members, and then we kept
changing the fourth member and yeah, and then ultimately just ended up with with
us three because we had like thebest chemistry together and we figured, uh,
you know, this is a thisis a good bond, this is
a good group. Let's just keepit like this. So did you guys
(12:20):
already have training in like music theoryor you know, how did you guys
know how to? I mean,we all played piano as a young as
younger kids, you know, especiallyFilipino culture, Filipino fan It's like everyone
took piano lessons. So maybe that'swhere it started. Maybe there's some genetics
to you know, I think ourfamily can sing, but you know,
(12:45):
Filipinos were either we're either dancers, were singers or DJs or nurses. They
used to all our wonderful medical butit would have happened without them. So
I'm just saying, you know,I'm just saying we couldn't. We couldn't.
There's a stereotype for a reason,because we're good at it. Yes,
they are very good, very good. No shade yeah, sha sha
(13:09):
shade it is your all diamonds. We're just trying to, you know,
emulate the the divo diva vibes, you know, nineties. We love that,
you know what I'm saying. Sowe have Mahallow Hollow coming up October
twenty eighth at Downtown Container Park.We have Interlude as one of our main
acts. I'm so excited because oneall three of them are going to be
(13:31):
there, Cyrus, Eric and Jaysand you know what, what better way
to celebrate Filipino American or Philip philm Heritage Month with our Filipinos growing up
in the pop culture R and Ba cappella world. We have myself because
I'm Filipino. We have Lepa Lips. Michaela just walked into the building too.
(13:56):
Yeah, giant. She didn't getthe memo for Diva today. She
walked away. You are the diamondsright Well, we have the Mahala Hallo
(14:18):
fam in the building, johann Isyou know on the on the Master of
Ceremonies there. We are also bringingon to the stage the majority we are
working on Horizon coming into to theMahalo Hollow mix as well. So we
have many many talented folks coming tojoin us. So what can we how
(14:43):
can we find you guys, andwhat is your next like move as far
as performances, do you guys haveany PHIL representation in Vegas or Mahalo?
Hello? Is your next one?Is the next one and we're definitely looking
forward to that, you know,as I was before we started. It's
kind of and you guys know,we just moved in town and so a
lot of our shows have always beenCalifornia based. I mean, of course
(15:05):
we've traveled nationally, but as arecent mainly California. So definitely looking to
do a lot more shows here inLas Vegas. You know, we just
want to spread that music love.Yeah, guys, and I think we
were talking about possibly, you know, forming a band for you guys working
together, and you know, Ilove it. Are you guys working on
some new things? Like what aresome new areas that you guys are like
(15:28):
new music? I mean, whatare you guys feeling now in this season
right now coming into because I know, I mean just sitting here and listening
to just the history and the understanding. I am so excited that you guys
are coming back to the forefront forall of us, for this younger generation
to know, Hey, there issome history here. There's some deep,
deep history and soul, soul whenit comes to the phil Am community,
(15:54):
when it comes to hip hop andwhen it comes to that ar Andy,
So tell us about new projects.I mean we're excited or they just have
to follow you. Well, nowwe'll talk a little bit about it.
I mean, as you know,we love the nineties R and B and
that's that's when you hear Interlude. We always bring that nineties R and B
vibe. But as James mentioned,we're trying to do that Island reggae vibe.
Want to tap into that and wedid. Basically, we just want
(16:15):
to tap in with other producers andwriters that want to give us a fresh
sound. So you know, we'reit's so we are. We are talking
with a few. But hey,if there's a few out there that want
to connect with us at your boysyou heard, oh, you can find
us at Interlude Official on Instagram andthat's I N N Yes l U d
(16:37):
E. That's my space, shoutout space space and you can find our
music on Spotify not lime Wire that'salso Limewire's another You are okay? Were
us right? Now? Let's goback to the Lime wire. How many
(16:59):
songs did you to push without itfreezing and you're like, oh, I'm
on the fifth song. Just yeah, it was it was always challenge.
It was always challenge, you know, that's we have to do it.
We have to do back then toget the music, you know CDs though,
like you'd have to burn it waitfor it to render. So I
was on the radio, will comeon, you press record, you have
to push both buttons down and thenyou have to push pause or like stuff
(17:22):
real quick before they started talking YeahHi, And it's like and you're like,
we know that, do you guys? Remember Hi? This is THEO.
I was like, no, Idon't want to hear the I just
press play. Remember that? Rememberthat I love you? Where we are?
No, And it's great to goback in time, right, Like
technology has come a long way andnow it's just like instant So if you
(17:45):
have new music and you have newproduct, you can launch it and people
will either grab it, right,And that's what great I mean compared to
back in the day, right,we were literally you know, having to
go places to promote ourselves. That'sright. But you know now the click
of a button, you can posta real. It's like, you get
ten thousand views, Well look atthis, you're international, You're international.
(18:10):
Yeah. Yeah. Remember the flyerdays, you would go and promote your
show and then you'd have a streetteam and you'd have you know, people
putting it on the I mean theystill have it now. I think it's
still gorilla marketing, but you haveinstant gratification of like, hey posts,
I have ten thousand followers. Y'allcan see it tonight, exactly right.
So yeah, I'm really excited foryou guys, and I'm just blessed to
(18:32):
be in the same room, inthe same space with Interlude today because Eric
and James are here to just reallygive us, you know, the the
goods of how they started and wherethey're still going. You know, just
because you are, you know, away for a little bit doesn't mean that
you're going you're gone rights right,And nowadays too, a lot of young
(18:56):
people are I mean, just FYIfor everyone who's coming October twenty eighth,
it is a nineties vibe. AndI read that Mahohala is a platform where
you can we can celebrate phil HeritageMonth, but also what is going on
with right now and just bringing that, but that vibe, that ninety nineties
vibe, there's nothing like it.I got a plug though, y'all still
have good hair, you got theno great I mean, I don't.
(19:22):
I don't see. Back in theday, we got the high fade,
the pompadour, the street. Youknow, the baby they got the baby
faces. You know what I mean? Are you little like Tommy My gosh,
Jackie too sweet? True? Nofilters either, filters on filter.
Okay, so let's go back tothe nineties, Like what's your favorite like
(19:44):
memory or maybe moment any nineties.I know Jada Pinkett Smith is hot right
now that the hole Will Smith.I don't even know. I just caught
on yesterday. I know what happened. I saw a bunch of memes.
I'm like, what is what wasgoing on? But you know, tell
me a little bit about maybe agood concert you guys, like, like
an interlude, moment, inter maybea show that she watch nineties anything,
(20:07):
nineties anything? Maybe the style, what was the style that you guys remember
that that stuck with you guys?Cross colors? Maybe well you still rock
the vest I think that was anineties everybody wore us Jo vibes. Yeah,
the leather or leather vests. Everybodyplayed that song. But I don't
(20:33):
know too many crazy moments, AndI know there there was a when I
think of interlude moments. There wasa time when we're in Hawaii, we
did a show. It was indowntown for the Hello Yeah, so we
headlined that event. Man, theytreated us so good out there, Like
we're only five that traveled, butthey got us like three suits. It's
(20:56):
like, man, they really rolledout the red carpet for us. But
as they should. You know,I didn't expect it. I really didn't
expect it. So so we gotthere. We did all our promotion things
on the radio. But the dayof the show, you know, we
did our sound check, we walkedaround, then we performed. But after
we performed is when it really shockedus because we're like, wow, these
(21:18):
are real fans out here. Sowe couldn't even leave the stage. We
had to sneak out from the back. We ran since it was it was
in the city, so we ranto a Cellular one store or something like
that time, right, and thenso like we were kind of trapped in
there and there's like girls banging onthe guy like this is a true So
(21:41):
these girls they're just banging, right. So so our manager goes, Okay,
look I'm gonna go out there tryingto try to calm them down and
go out and meet them. Iwas like, cool, that'd be fun.
So he gets out there, hepulls out, you know, some
photos to pass out so we cansign them, and they just like they
were like pan on him right.Like he comes back in and just imagine
(22:02):
like someone being on the shovels likesprings exactly. So he had that look
and he was like, no,no, boys, you can't go out
there. So we literally had tosprint out the back and like go back
to our hotel and we didn't getto like meet those fans. But I
always remember that moment because Hawaii alwaysshowed us. Hawaii showed us. That's
(22:29):
that's why see that you got towear them. That's why I think you
guys have the shades on because yougot to protect your eyes, you know,
because the fans the protect you gottacome back. We got to keep
that for October twenty eight. Allright, everybody coming, wear your shade
please, no shade, yeah,no shade for protecting. We're probably gonna
wear them on stage. So yeah, as you should as you should know.
(22:55):
We we're just happy to hear thesestories. I know, you know
you are coming back into the sceneand the music scene. You guys are
going to be producing new music, and I'm excited to see where this journey
goes because it's a whole new chapterin your your career, your music career.
We all evolved, so you knowwhat you had back in the day
is not going to be the same. Obviously, interesting people on their toes
(23:23):
and we're always looking to collapse,so you know, sure always, So
it sounds like you're going to helpus make some connections. So collaboration,
you know, is full of talent. I mean, we all originally come
from California. We want to comehere respectfully and make sure that we you
know, kind of integrate our talentsand our purpose in the community. So
(23:44):
if you guys are vibing with Interlude, you guys want to you know,
produce some reggae, some Island vibes. Hit them up, Interlude hostial,
that's right. What is something thatyou look forward to form? Mohalo Hollo
on October twenty eighth, from twelveto eight. Yes, on October twenty
(24:07):
eighth, from twelve pm to eightpm. I am looking forward, just
definitely looking forward to celebrating phil AmHeritage Month, to see a lot of
us come and more of like abeautiful family gathering where we can listen to
some amazing artists. I mean, there's gonna be amazing vendors there as well
as well as some food trucks,so you're gonna have good food, good
entertainment, I mean, just goodvibes all together. Downtown Container Park provides
(24:32):
that whole atmosphere and it's just goingto be a great time. What a
wonderful platform, what a wonderful way. So thank you Tony for having mahalo
hello, because this is the thirdyear and the best is yet to come.
The bus is yet to come. And we have interlude blessing our stageh
my goodness. You know, weare lucky to be able to have Filipino
(24:52):
Americans really represent us here. Yes, not only in Las Vegas. I've
had the opportunity to you know, see them in Calli and other places,
but to be in the same roomand to share stories and to really see
us evolve as people, and youknow a lot of us are artists naturally,
but to step out of your comfortzone and really take on the artistry
(25:15):
and just you know, be uncomfortable, especially in our in our culture,
it's like, oh, you know, you have to go into the medical
frailty or you have to do somethingconventional and very safe. So when you
step out into your artistry and youexpress that and you're able to show the
community like, hey, no,you can do both. Yeah, I
mean that's real talk. And thankyou for acknowledging that. I mean,
(25:37):
we appreciate it. I feel like, you know, there was a little
bit of that even in our familiesgrowing up, right. I mean it
only comes from love, right,But you know, thank god it worked
out where we could do both. And you know, we have these memories
and these connections with everyone that doeslisten to our music, right, you
know, and that's kind of whywe still do it. You know.
I was sharing that story earlier,Like when we go to these shows,
(25:59):
a lot of people like to pourout to us and say, did you
know what your song did for me? Or I was going through this during
So those are the thing the memoriesI carry with me, to be quite
honest with you, and that's amazingbecause sometimes you forget and think that you
have the impact on people. It'spretty awesome when someone tells you that's how
you impacted me. Yes, absolutely, couldn't have said it any better,
(26:22):
that's right. I know, there'slike just Mike drop right there. You
have to add to it, youknow, as the big bro, like
you see your relationship with one anotherand how you guys have evolved as artists,
Like how do you feel that youactually let him in going, You're
welcome, You're there's no there's nointerlude without James and vice versus. It
(26:49):
was the perfect match, you know, since birth. I'll say it like
that, there you go, andthat's why we still here and that's why
we're still doing that's right. Butyou know, brothers and singing together,
I think it's pretty cool because Ithink musically, you know, it's it's
cool how we work together, likein a studio and even in a group
like I don't know if you guyscan get along with your siblings that long
(27:11):
all the time, right share, you know, going on the road with
each other. So I think we'repretty blessed to like have that journey together
and still be you know together.Yeah, and winning together, still doing
well. I'm sure you guys, like you know, give each other a
hard time here and there, butyeah, yeah, like that goes without
(27:34):
saying. But what I'm saying throughoutall that, we still you know,
but you know, music does keepus together, as you know, I
love that, and you know, you keep the culture going, you guys
keep the respect and that fortitude ofcreating together and just you know, being
an example to our community. Howmany years now in the business plus right,
(27:57):
ninety nine and yeah, yeah, ninety nine. So I go back
to you. She was, shewas. She was a beautiful thought.
She was a beautiful thought. Shewas she was a thought that she came
out thought. See and now lookat that because when I say thought,
(28:21):
yeah, I mean positive, beautifulmemory. Now you know, everybody cool
and it's not like like different things. I know. I was like,
people, it's going to become ameme becoming like, oh she was at
thought. I was like, waita minute, I know, later minute,
that didn't a positive man, Pleasedon't hurt me. Please don't hurt
me. I promise you. It'sbut you know, and back in the
(28:47):
day, it was a lot harderto you know, put your music out
because you have to find a DJ, have to locate somebody who's going to
play your record in the club oron the radio, and if they gave
you a shot, you're like,oh my god, we made it.
But now it's like you can justsend a file and thereffer that's right there,
click up a button. Really, you can download on Spotify, Apple,
(29:07):
So tell us where we can findyour music. Ice there you go,
like you said, Spotify is theplease follow us, you know,
Apple to an Apple. We're basicallyon all streaming services. But I just
use I'm just one little bit therewhen people sometimes if you search interlude,
sometimes all the songs don't show up, so search interlude music within, which
is the title of the album. For some reason, that kind of works.
