Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Underground, The steel City Underground, the black
and gold standard for Pittsburgh Steelers coverage. Now here's your hoes.
Joe Kuzma and Brian E. Rose.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Hello everyone, and welcome to another edition of the steel
City Underground podcast. My name is Joe Kuzma and enjoining
me almost is always won mister Brian e Roach. Brian,
how's it going, my friend?
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Hey, we won the preseason opener. We're going to Super Bowl.
Everything has changed. It's just a dramatic difference. I can't
believe how hype it.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
Okay, I'm lying. Where's my sign? Here?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
You go, get it, get there in view. Hey, if
I'm not mistaken. The Steelers won their preseason game.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
Whoaoo, right, yes they did. Uh.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Baltimore Ravens won their preseason game. The Cleveland Browns won
their preseason game. But the Cincinnati Bengals did not so correct.
They they got smoked. Not only did they get smoked,
there was this big push by Zach Taylor, head coach
(01:15):
of the Bengals, to play their starters because of their
slow starts that they've been having at the beginning of
their season. In fact, you know, last year, half the
year to like wake up. Yeah, yeah, they've they played
some of their guys and that didn't turn out too
well for them. I you know, I didn't look at
the actual I can. I didn't look at the actual
(01:37):
like breakdown with the snap counts. Right, it's probably nothing
too majorly impressive. But actually I'll pull it up real quick.
Let me see how let me see how many snaps
Joe Burrow played here, all the way all the way
down here we go. Let me see Bengal. Oh yeah,
(02:01):
I mean this just goes on forever. Jamar Chase played,
Oh they played like a full quarter man.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Sixteen.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
I didn't even realize it was like sixteen Yeah, sixteen
snaps for Jamar Chase. Yeah, I mean Joe Burrow, like
all those guys were together on the field together. That's
actually that's pretty ridiculous. But it's still the preseason. Like
we said before, we have been deceived. But I just
wanted to throw some shade. I wanted to throw some
shade at the Bungles just because it's the Bungles, and
(02:30):
that was just kind of funny that you put your
players at risk. You know, that was the number one
thing I was thinking about with this game, the Steelers
sat what like sixteen eighteen starters, So you didn't have
you didn't have a lot of the new fancy toys.
The shiny toys weren't out. You didn't have DK Metcalf,
you didn't have Aaron Rodgers. You didn't have John news Smith,
(02:51):
you didn't have Jalen Rams, you didn't have Darius Slay.
You didn't have some of the previous shining toys either.
You didn't have Patrick Queen. You did not have the
established shiny toys like TJ. Watt, Cam Hayward. And I
think even for wanting to talk about this thirty one
to twenty five, who you know, it wasn't the worst
(03:12):
game to watch. Let's be let's be honest, and you
know what, not too bad for playing in the heat
and everything. But speaking of the heat, do we want
to acknowledge the Cam Hayward stuff by any chance? I'm
not not a one hundred.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
Per certain on that. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
I don't know if it's even like as we briefly
discussed prior to the show. I don't even know if
it's real. Right, Well, we'll find out. Look, I'll say this,
TJ just got a bucket of money, right, and for
what Cam produced last year and his ranking amongst other
defensive tackle type people, he's underpaid. He's a bargain as
(03:50):
it stands. Are they going to redo a deal they
just redid last year?
Speaker 4 (03:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
It seems unlikely, but I think he's making a point.
Maybe if it's even real, I don't know. You know,
Cam does it. Cam does a podcast, you know, and
I watch that. I watch his show because I enjoy
Cam and I enjoy the little the little segments that
they do. But he hasn't brought it up on there,
and why would he because you know, if it's real,
(04:17):
then he's not gonna right, he's dirty laundry on that show.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Yeah, there's a few things that don't happen. You're not
going to do that as a player typically unless you're
a buffoon, and Cam certainly not that. And players will
have their agents do that dirty work for them. They'll
buill leak the stuff or whatever. And we didn't think
this is a this is a non issue fake story
to begin with. So there's that too. But yeah, Cam
(04:46):
was another guy who did not play. I don't think
there's a whole lot to be said or done with
a Cam Hayward contract that you know, his cap number
these next two years just north of nineteen million dollars
nineteen point six. I know that's not the money in
his his pocket right now base salary at one point three.
But he's got some roster bonuses here right He's already
got his signing bonus, so the money's in his pocket
(05:07):
about ten million roughly. I heed the mats with Joe
Graphic back. I have no idea where it's that I'm
gonna have to locate it. We're not in we're in
preseason forms, so I don't have it yet. There you go,
But about thirteen and a half for a roster bonus
and another thirteen next year for a roster bonus. So
he's on the team, he's getting some he's getting some cash.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Shola.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
So, by the way, you know what we should acknowledge
real quick that you have a cricket problem. Maybe, and
it's not that thing that makes all the fancy crafts
like you know, like the other half does the cricket.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Kind of Let's tell you're talking about it crickets. We're
sure crickets.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
There are crickets somewhere in the there are two things
going on in the office. There's a little teeny dog,
well not that little teeny' she's thirty five pounds. There's
a she's an Australian cattle dog and a leopard dog mixed,
and she's over here on the floor chewing.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
So there's that.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
But then there are crickets and I don't know where
they are, but they are going to show up every
now and then. They've been chirping at me since this morning,
and so I'm gonna get some cricket spray or something
and wipe their little wipe their little cricket asses out.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
It sounds it sounds like a wily coyote thing. You're
just gonna go get the acme cricket spray to deal
with it. No, last night, those things can be noisy.
I found if I leave like a watering can outside
my patio door and got my TV like right there,
like last night, that thing was noisy. And then I
opened my door and it's like, you can't find me.
(06:36):
You won't know where I'm at. And then the cicadas
are out in full force now too. So but dealing
with that, But maybe we got some football to talk about.
This wasn't the most boring game by any stretch of
the imagination, right. There was actually some excitement and fireworks,
and the quarterbacks looked pretty sharp, bright and I'm gonna
silence you just for one second here on there, because man,
(06:59):
I'm talking get through and it's like all the way.
So anyways, Steelers had some pretty good quarterbacking performances in
this game. Now, it doesn't mean that there's any real competition,
but Mason Rudolph, he jumps off the page first here
and Rudolph ends his day nine to ten for eighty
(07:23):
four yards and a touchdown pass. So fairly impressive stuff
from him. But the relative unknown is probably somebody that's
considered the QB four of this group, Skyler Thompson, who
just completely lit up various members of the Jaguars. Now,
the Rudolph stuff was a little more impressive because, for
(07:46):
all intents and purposes, most of the Jaguars first team
defense played. They had their offense out there kind of
semi quasi for a series against mostly Steelers backups other.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Than other than the rookies.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Right, But Skyler Thompson twenty to twenty eight for two
hundred and thirty three yards and three touchdowns, which exceeded
that stellar performance by Shador Sanders in the Cleveland game.
So Nike, give this guy a deal too. I've been
throwing some shade out there and trolling people, but come on,
one hundred and thirty eight yards from Shador. I know
(08:21):
there was a pair of touchdowns. Those are some Kenny
Pickett numbers. We've been deceived before. So and the Skyler Thompson.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Thing, like, look, yeah, did it change anything? Did it
change anything?
Speaker 4 (08:33):
Is?
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Is he gonna jump Will Howard even a hurt Will
Howard to suddenly become QB three.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
I doubt it.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
They've invested a draft pick in Will Howard. I mean,
I know it's not a high draft pick, but they've
invested a draft pick. They're gonna see what they get.
They don't probably don't think they can slide him into
the practice squad, So you know, I don't know, but
it's great for him. Hey, maybe he made some book, right,
maybe he made some money. Maybe you know, maybe somebody
else is going to look at that performance down the
road and say, hey, we'd like to have Skyler come
(09:01):
in and be on our team. I don't think it
makes a place for him here in Pittsburgh, nor do
I think it should with the higher.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
Fee that they have right now. And as far as
Shedur Sanders, this is what I'm gonna say. I don't care.
I just don't care.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
I don't care a whole lot either. I thought it
was the same thing, even being facetious with Skyler Thompson.
It's great for him. He puts some things on tape,
you know, the very beginning of the game, it still
felt like a lot of checkdowns. He's still very clearly
a backup quarterback. There might not be enough room for
him in Pittsburgh because the Steelers are not going to
(09:38):
expose Mason Rudolph or Will Howard to Waivers and Aaron
Rodgers is certainly the guy, and they're going to keep
three quarterbacks, which half the league. I think Charlie Batch
must have mentioned it about eighty times if you watch
the Steelers fee of this. I'm not sure, Brian, you
might have saw the Jaguars one which I had to
cut off immediately, but that's what was on NFL network
if you got the local Katie ka fe Charlie Batch
(09:59):
had said, well about half of the league, they keep
three quarterbacks the other half only keep two and maybe
the Jaguars guys said that too. I'm not sure, but
I was going back and forth. I watched a little
bit of both feeds, but I prefer the Steelers one
for obvious reasons. I don't care about what's going on
on the Jaguars side of the ball for the most part.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
I will tell you that after what I learned that
the I think this is the number one thing I
learned from watching the broadcast both did the Jaguars feed
as well as the home feed at times and the
follow up you know, little blurbs like the Katie K
(10:37):
postgame show, and they're not we don't there's not a
lot of really.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Good broadcasters on these shows.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Yeah, I mean it got Ramone, Foster remote actually the
lady big I love Ramone, and the lady that was
with them was actually she was good. She has a
pleasing voice, at least I mean pleasing voice snails on
a check. The stuff that they were saying was just like, Wow,
this is just so not good.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
And it's fine. I don't expect them to be top
tier broadcasters. But basically what happened was I was forced
to listen to the Jags piece because I was, you know,
I was looking at it on NFL Network and I
eventually just muted it and just decided I was going
to make up my own commentary because I figured it
would be just as valid and probably sound better.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Yeah, nothing against any of them. I do feel like
sometimes they're disconnected or they're just not permitted to speak
about certain things, but very much disconnected. I'm just like,
that doesn't make any sense, Like, what are you talking
like Bob Pompiani, who's, you know, pretty decent on what
he does, but let's face it, yeah, probably has like
a million other hats thee wears. But you go over
to the side of the Jaguars broadcast team and this
(11:52):
is a pretty good point here, Cam little now on
the Steelers feed Mike. They're showing Mike Tom and he's
not too happy, saying this is it, this should be
We're walking into halftime, right and this would have been
three free points that no one thought was gonna be
a free three points from seventy yards out. The guy
(12:14):
hits a field goal, where they say, well, that would
be an NFL record if it were a regular season game,
and I'm like, well, wait, a second, there should be
like some kind of asterisk the guy is in. It
is in an NFL setting, it's like, maybe he doesn't
have all the pressure in the world on him of
a regular season game. Maybe it's you know, and it's
still pressure before halftime. It's still a hard or difficult kick.
(12:37):
I think there needs to be some asterisk or tick
or something Guinness or otherwise for that. That was impressive
as all hell, and he still had like four or
five yards to clear or like.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
That's the key.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Like to me, that's the biggest part of this is
this was not one of those ekes over the goalpost,
like barely. There was plenty of space he could have
made it for further. So well, you know that all
being said, it's great for that kid, great for that kicker.
Maybe that that prompts the coach to take a chance
(13:10):
somewhere in the regular season and say, hey, let's see
if we.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Can get you the record.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
But that kick would have been good from seventy five.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Yeah, that's just don't do that on the kickoffs, because
now they're going to bring you out to the forty,
which I think is just as absolutely ridiculous. I get it,
they're trying to get everyone to use the new rule,
the new landing zone, and keep everything, you know, trying
to make things more exciting, of which there wasn't a
whole lot of excitement. In the special teams realm. You
(13:43):
did get Travis Hunter playing both ways in this game,
and he didn't do a whole lot too passes nine yards.
I think he was stuffed by was it Beanie Bishop
or Brandon Eckles.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Beanie Bishop, I think.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
You know those guys had they had pretty solid games defensively,
some of the Steelers players. I think we should give
a few highlights here because there were some I guess
pseudo starters or backups, because I think why a Black's
going to earn some playing time? I think so, man,
He's just he's knocking down everything at the line of
scrimmage in camp, he's getting his paws up. In this game,
(14:17):
he's creating pressure, he's stopping to run his motor. He
just goes. I was impressed. He's one of the guys
I wanted to look at, and he impressed me as
I thought he should. And then you've got Brandon Eckles
and Beanie Bishop who are very far down the corner charts.
He brought in Jalen Ramsey to upgrade as a slaughter
a nickel corner. I'm thinking more about the depth on
(14:39):
the outside now. I know Ramsey can play there if necessary.
But man Eccles and Bishop both making plays in this game.
I thought they were flying around and everywhere. Peyton, Wilson,
Cole Holcombe inside linebackers. I thought they did great, and
then one Thornhill, of course, laid laid someone out. So
these are all like very nice and impress some things
(15:00):
to see from an early defense, and they were. That's
aside from Derek Carmon just doing his job as he
should in his preseason debut as well.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Look, I thought I didn't see as much from anybody
as I really wanted to see, right because I felt
like I was limited by the broadcast and what it
was going to show and from what I could tell
through watching the game. I like that Derek Carmon held up.
(15:32):
I like Jack Sawyer. I like Jack Sawyer getting some
pressures and the motor of the Jack ser Shorter show.
I liked both Roman Wilson and Scottie Miller, you know,
showing up as potential be picking up that W two
spot or being a third wide receiver, and you have
(15:52):
to you know, look, I know James Pierre has been
having a good camp. You kind of have to give
it to him. He's he is, he is, like, I
know that I'm on the outs probably, but I'm gonna
do everything I can to prove.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
I shouldn't be.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
He's you know, they've they've been they've been playing nice
and yeah, Peyton Wilson and I was.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
It was good to see Cole Holcomb back out there. Yeah,
Cole Holcombe was flying around. I think Pierre, Pierre or
Trace they're both on thin ice and they might keep
one or the other pending. I mean, if you're keeping
special teams and you've got the experience, maybe Pierre and
Pierre may actually be the one who ends up healthier.
So you'll find them eventually. You'll find that cricket event
(16:30):
where Jimmy Cirkt is the dog.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
The dog try she's she's not let's say, not well behaved. Yeah,
so she she does tend to want to chew everything,
So in this particular room, I have to be a
little wary of what she's chewing.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Brian, Brian's got like he's got his hands full with
all of this as we try and cover a preseason game,
no less, and try to stay on track. One of
the on the side of that too, jumped from defense
to offense real quick. And I thought it was decently
and decently impressive showing by the big boys up front,
the Steelers offensive line.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
They looked good.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
You had everyone but Isaac say Malow out there pretty
much because say Mallow was he just arrived back in
camp last week, I believe, and was finally starting to play.
Actually it was the week before. It was just before
Friday Night Lights. I apologized for that, but the offensive
lineman up front, I thought it was a pretty big
(17:36):
a pretty big to do. Having four out of the
five of your potential starters in the game against what
was the Jacksonville defensive line. They're not slouches, the guys
that are the starters on the other side of the ball.
So you had Zach Frasier, you had Mason McCormick, you
had the two tackles, You had Troy Fottnau and Proderi
(17:59):
Jones not Prodrick Owns had a pretty solid showing. And
then let me see, who's the other guy that I'm
missing here. Let's see Fatano, Broger Jones. Oh who was
that for Simalo? So Samlo was? I think for Anderson
or Anderson that's right. So I thought they looked good.
They gave Mason a lot of time, and Mason looked sharp.
(18:20):
Mason looks more decisive, Mason looks mature in the position
versus where he was some time ago. But a big
tip of the cap of that goes to the offensive line. Now,
what's got to happen next with some of our big
boys up front in the offensive lineman is they got
to pave the way a little bit for these running
backs because it wasn't It was. While the quarterbacking was
(18:43):
plentiful and impressive for a lot of it, the run
game was not so much. You had Nicholas ran six
times for thirty one yards. Then you had Caleb Johnson,
the rookie. He ended up only rushing the ball by
eight times for twenty yards. That's a two and a
half average. That's probably not going to get it done.
(19:08):
But he did have a pretty slick move on. I
was trying to get him all the way in the
frame here, but this is him given the business to
Travis Hunter, and there's Travis Hunter. What's your dog's name again?
Speaker 4 (19:23):
This is Violet, Violet. That's right, Violet.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Not a football name though you thought maybe, No, this
is what.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
She's a little girl. She's a little bug. No, no,
I don't want I don't want to mean Joe dog.
This is Violet. Violet is as I said, she's She's
just a little girl. She's two, and she's being she's
she like is demanding some attention.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
She's very sweet. Yeah, I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
I'm sure the crickets aren't doing her any favors either, So, Brian,
I was going to say any game that you could
leave from. You know, the Steelers were pretty much mistake free,
even for this being preseason where the.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
Jaguars at a.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Comedy of errors and also injury free for the most
part as well.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
The most impressive thing to me is that is the
fact that they were they were buttoned up right. As
Mike Tomlin said, they didn't beat their own butts. I
I will tell you that from what I saw. Uh,
the run game is still a concern to me, and
it's going to be a work in progress, I think
(20:36):
as they start to figure out how to blend those
things together.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
And the when when Mason went out right and you
started to get some of the other starters off the
offensive line. Uh, while the Jaguars still had their some
of their ones and their twos in.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
There were a couple of series that didn't look very good.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
Then what's What's everything sort of balanced out and you
had JV versus JV they were fine. There's a clear
drop off, is the point I'm getting at. Once you
if we need to, we need to knock on wood, uh,
not prevent those those kind of things from happening that
didn't happen in this game, meaning injury bugs stuff.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Yeah, And to be fair, what was it Max Sharping?
This came from the postgame show, I think with Mike Persuda,
and I'm trying to think who was with him, because
Charlie Batch was in the booth.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
I'm trying to think who did it with them?
Speaker 2 (21:37):
But they had pointed out, you know, Sharping was taking
these snaps, but he's he's not a center, he's not
a dedicated center.
Speaker 4 (21:43):
He's a guard, and it was clear he was having
trouble with him.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Yeah, I was a little struggle, Like I.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
Wasn't gonna call anybody out in specific, but Max Sharping
is the guy I saw gotten the getting abused more
than more than once.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Yeah, and andras Uh Pete, who just got signed as
a veteran formerly what first round pick ages ago thirteenth
overall in the twenty fifteen draft by the New Orleans Saints.
He got out there a little bit listened at six
seven three sixteen, possibly a swing tackle candidate, because what happens,
(22:16):
Calvin Austin's playing or not Calvin Austin, I'm sorry, not
Calvin Anderson, Spencer Anderson.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
I've got too many Calvin Austin cannot line is weird
in deep, deep deep trouble.
Speaker 4 (22:28):
He is not. He is not. He is not Mount Washington.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
But no, Pete was sucking a little bit of win
there in that he is very clearly he wasn't at
Saint Vincent College in the ninety degree heat prepping for
this game. Uh like everyone else. Everyone else seemed a little,
a little unfazed by the Florida weather, which was nice
to see for a change. But the almost thirty two
(22:52):
year old he turned thirty two on November fourth, actually
my mom's birthday here later in the year, he could
be vying for a roster spot. They need just a
little bit. They needed depth. This is where we felt
they needed to do. They had the biggest glaring hole
was at tackle, So getting him a little bit of
an extra time there, does that mean he's going to
compete for a spot. No. I think the starters, you
(23:13):
saw what it's going to be, and they're going to
help Roderick a little bit there too. I thought, thought
the Darnell Washington look good. Yeah, the Darnell Washington and
TD pass was pretty nice. So that was that was nice.
But what else is next for the Pittsburgh Steelers as
(23:34):
we move ahead? Some folks need to pump the brakes.
Even though I was being a little facetious and even
put out a Skylar Thompson graphic, I'd be good for him.
I think we should celebrate that.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
But absolutely he did a nice job.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
He's not pushing for playing time. He's not pushing probably
even for a roster spot because Will Howard will have
to clear thirty one other teams of the waiver wire
who were probably looking to take a late round flyer
on him in a quarterback hungry and needy league. So
unless his injury is lingering and he's just gonna be
and which.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Case stuff put him on IR and so as opposed
to trying to get him on the practice squat.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Yeah, we talked about this last Yeah, last time. He
has to make the fifty three. So what could happen
here is he could make the fifty three he placed
on IR no one, No one gets Skylar. I think
Skyler was a futures or reserves contract. Is he a
tenured player in the National Football League? Let me look
this up a little bit with Miami, so he did?
I think he had two or three seasons with the Dolphins. Yeah,
(24:30):
one of which he was on the bench. So he
was in in twenty twenty two, twenty three, twenty four.
This would be his face. So he's still subject to waivers.
But should he make it through? And trust me, other
teams are probably cutting their quarterbacks too, so nobody's going
to put in actual I believe a real waiver claim
on somebody like Skyler Thompson, he would probably pass all
the way through and then they could bring him back.
(24:51):
Put the corresponding transaction for Howard to sit first four
weeks on injured reserve of his hands nigh heeled Skylar
Thompson becomes the QB three emergency quarterback. In that case,
he may have at least earned that that right, and
with an expanded practice squad, I think I think he
makes it through. But Will Howard wouldn't. Oh, absolutely no way,
There's no way Will Howard goes through that.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
And we may still you know, Tom Tomlin did say
in the pregame stuff that we there's they're not ruling
Will Howard out to play in maybe the final preseason game.
It's still a possibility. I think it's you know, they're
not going to risk any long term damage, but it's
a possibility. So you know, he may still have a
chance to show up and let.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
Us see what what what he's made of.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Yeah, I think so, and that and that game will
be a really messy too, and it is unfortunate.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
It is unfortunate.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Just imagine the fervor though, if it were Will Howard
in Skyler Thompson's spot and he gets a retouchdown passes
and has like a damn near perfect uh passer rating,
I mean, we probably would not hear the end of it, right.
Everybody would say, well, Howard's next guy. Will Howard's next guy.
But I think the thing that gets overlooked in particular
(26:00):
is not only Mason Rudolph's performance, Skylar Thompson's performance. We'll
see what Will Howard does, but if this is in
fact Aaron Rodgers' final season, you might have some guys
that are returning next year and actually competing for a
spot because everyone just believes. You know, the storyline right
now is Rogers will play one last year and then
the Steelers are going to draft somebody in their home
(26:23):
draft in Pittsburgh. And even so, this was probably Matt Williamson,
Dale Lawley or something on SNR. I had the same thought,
but I'm going to give him credit because he may
have heard this somewhere else. I don't want to make
it sound like I'm stealing someone else's thoughts, but they
are absolutely in line with my thinking, probably yours as well, Brian,
that not only Mason, not only let's say Skylar or
(26:45):
Will Howard or whatever. But if they draft someone, then
now you've got quarterbacking. That makes it where you don't
have to pressure or rush the new guy, whoever that
may be a twenty twenty six draft pick into action.
You have capable bodies, so you know I was spot on.
That's the way I feel. Also, moving forward to as
(27:08):
far as preseason games, we'll have a I guess a
preview of sorts the only home preseason game coming up
this week Saturday.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Good good, Yes that you brought that up. Good that
you brought that up. Anybody wants my tickets, reach out
to me. You know, I don't do preseason games, so
I'm not driving to Pittsburgh for five hours. So if
you want to go to the to the preseason game,
find me either with my handle on Twitter, Facebook or wherever.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
Whatever.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
You can reach out to Joe and give him your
information through our helpline. Whatever it is you want to go,
let me know the tickets of yours who first come,
first served.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
That's the way it works every year.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
So I'm leaving you off while I speak here, so
everyone gets the proper Twitter handle if you're watching this
on YouTube, the old one, Yeah, the only one that
got hijacked in the now pornography of a a very
graphic type, very so that is not the Brian we
know and love, or maybe or that.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
Looks way better than me. I wish, I wish I
looked that good, but I don't.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
But Hey, you know, uh whatever.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
That guy's dragging a tail along the ground when he walks.
But we'll have a preview regardless. If you want Brian's tickets,
catch them at brian E at Brian E Roach SCU.
Very important that you do that and not whatever the
the old one was, cannons don't fun, which is just.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
Like I don't even have to broadcast that anymore.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Yeah, well, if you're curious, just make sure you're not
any work environment. If you look that one up.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
It's definitely n s ns W, n s f W
apreciation Tampa Bay Buccaneers seven o'clock.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Should see some of the Bucks starters in that one.
We'll talk about that. Plus the plethora of players that
didn't play in this one. We should a little bit
of each of them for a few series on each side,
and a little mixer smattering about with those players too.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
With the over under that Aaron plays a single snap
in preseason, I think he.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Plays in Pittsburgh. I think he plays a series, just
like the Lawrence just did. At least one series or two.
That's I'm saying one with the outside chance of two
outside chances if they look crap, Yeah, it's.
Speaker 4 (29:26):
Three and out.
Speaker 3 (29:27):
I think he does two if they if they go
down and score, for sure, it's one and done.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
If he gets uh, if he gets sacked and then
pressured on two of the three, three might be one
and done.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Two.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
Yeah, it might be one and done also, Yeah, for sure.
So Mike Tomlin shortest press conference I ever saw, Brian.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
That was so awesome. It was hilarious. And I mean
even Mason's was short.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
Right, Like even Mason's He's like what They're both looking
at these reporters going what the hell?
Speaker 4 (30:00):
Nothing? But to be fair, this was that kind of game.
What are you going to ask?
Speaker 3 (30:08):
As I told you before, did we really learn anything
after this preseason game? Did anything really change?
Speaker 2 (30:15):
Nothing really changed, But we learned that the Steelers have
some very solid depth at multiple positions, if not throughout
the roster.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
I'll say that maybe I'll say that much.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
And there will be a few competitions probably as you
mentioned wide receiver, we mentioned defensive wide receiver. We'll get
into some of those with our pregame show for the
upcoming game Saturday, August sixteenth, Pittsburgh Steelers Tampa Bay Buccaneers
later this week. So until then, Brian, Hey, man, thanks
(30:45):
for joining me. Not much else to say about you know,
the football in pads sort of somewhat football.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Well it was real football at least I mean yeah,
hey Wan Thornhill thought it was real football.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
On Thornhill one Thornhill's show and that he stealer material
for sure. So yeah, folks, don't forget the like, comment
and subscribe. Thank you for watching or listening wherever you
may be. Got the two Spotify feeds. I'll forget about
