(00:00):
Welcome to Planet Logic. Today's episode, Governor Abbott endorses Hillary Hickland. I'm
Lynn Woolley. Texas Governor Greg Abbottcame to Temple, Texas on Friday to
deliver a full throated endorsement for HillaryHicklan, who is challenging longtime incumbent Hughes
Shine in the Texas House District fiftyfive. Abbot and Shine may see eye
(00:21):
to eye on most things, butnot school choice. Abbott has promised to
endorse primary opponents of the twenty oneHouse members who voted against school choice Abbot's
top priority in a just failed specialsession. Here is the Governor's speech in
its entirety, followed by Hicklan's response. There was a police presence outside the
(00:42):
downtown Main Street restaurant where the eventwas held. The crowd was too large
for the room and some were askedto step outside due to occupancy regulations.
While outside, they may have seenand some even clashed with anti Trump demonstrators
over such things as abortion. Onewoman carried his son that read I can
smell Donald Trump. Inside. Thecrowd for Hillary Hickland was enthusiastic she will
(01:07):
be facing Shine, Davis Ford andperhaps others in what may become a crowded
primary. Well, thank you verymuch and thank everybody here. It is
great to be back in Temple,Texas. So I got to care a
(01:27):
lot about Temple, Texas. I'vecome here many times as governor. One
of the primary things that I focuson in Temple, Texas is one of
the things that was mentioned and theintroduction, and that is the economy.
The economy is so important to people. In driving through Temple today, it
was fun to see the vibrancy ofthe economy or all the construction projects,
(01:49):
of the way, the way thatthe community is growing. And many times
I've been here have been focused oneconomic development for the region. In fact,
leaders from Temple have joined with meon international economic trips. We do
that because we care about creating jobsin the Temple area. And I'm pound
(02:09):
to say Temple is part of thereason why Texas ranks number one in the
United States for the most new jobsadded over the past year. And so
it was mentioned that Texas now hasthe eighth largest economy in the world,
(02:30):
and listen, Temple is a partof that process. Temple is a part
of the process that helped Texas beranked number one in the United States for
the most new economic development projects.Thank you, Temple, Texas. The
born mine is this, and thatis I care about the people of Temple.
(02:51):
I care about the people of HouseDistrict fifty five. And that's why
I'm here today. Because the peopleof Temple, Texas, the people of
House District fifty five, they needa true conservative representative with a seat at
a table in Austin, Texas. They need Hillary Hicklin to be their next
(03:16):
state representative. Hillary is a passionatefighter for parents and a champion for children.
She also supports exactly what Texas isdoing to push back against the Body
administration's open border policies, and shejoins our efforts to make sure that we
(03:45):
do even more to cut your propertytaxes so you can keep your hard earned
money. So I've known Hillary fora while now. She actually was a
part of my State of the Stateaddress this past February when I was talking
about school choice and I was talkingabout how some parents are angry, angry
(04:12):
about woke agendas being forced on theirkids in school, and I specifically mentioned
the name Hillary Hicklin is one ofthose angry parents who wants to see a
change where we do not have kidsbeing indoctrinated in our schools. But this
(04:32):
it's about far more than just wokeagendas. Even in areas like this,
it's about like the parent that Iwas talking to yesterday who has a child
with special education needs that are notbeing met by their local public school.
Those are parents who don't have theresources that can move to a different school
district or pay for a private school. The state of Texas has an obligation
(04:55):
to fund the best education possible forthose special needs students. What Hillary Hickland
knows is a fundamental fact that whenit comes to education, when it goes
see anything involving a child, momand dad are in charge. Hillary Hicklan
(05:18):
will join me to make sure thatwe return mom and dad to being in
charge of a child's education in thecenter of Texas. But listen to the
task is tall. The task istough because we have teachers you use and
a million dollar lobbyists out there tryingto maintain the status quo. The last
(05:43):
thing that these lobbyists and unions wantto see is a disruption of the monopoly
of government mandated locations where your childshould attend school. They are against the
freedom that rightfully belongs to parents. They are again against somewhere like Hillary Hickland,
who believes in fighting for parents andchildren as opposed to the government mandated
(06:06):
schools. We need a champion likeHillary Hickland to make sure we deliver on
the promise of ensuring that parents willbe able to choose the best school for
their child. And it just makessense, especially for this district. In
(06:30):
this district, in District fifty five, the last primary election that took place
less than two years ago, therewas a ballot initiative on the ballot,
and in this district, eighty ninepercent of the Republican voters voted in favor
of school choice. Your current staterepresentative went not only against those eighty nine
(06:58):
percent of the Republicans who wanted schoolchoice, but he did so by joining
with all of the Democrats voting againsta Republican priority. I know that Hillary
Hicklin will represent the Republicans who willelect her to go to Austin, Texas
and have a seat at the tableto make sure that conservative parties are passed.
(07:29):
But this election is about far morethan just school choice. It's about
making sure that the same concept thatapplies to school choices applied elsewhere. Here's
an easy example, and that isthe example is with school choice, the
goal is to empower parents, notgovernment, and the same thing applies as
the concerns cutting your property Texas well, Listen, because of the economy and
(07:55):
the growth that Temple help us toachieve, Texas was sitting on an all
time record budget surplus that we willalso have in this next session. And
we know that money surplus that doesn'tbelong to Austin Texas. It doesn't belong
to the legislature, or to theState of Texas, or to the governor
or anybody else. That money belongsto you, the taxpayers of the State
(08:16):
of Texas. And that's why weset an all time record by cutting your
property taxes by eighteen billion dollars, returning that money to you into your pocketbooks.
And we need Hillary Hicklin to joinwith me to do even more this
next session to cut your property taxeseven more. And if aywhere there there
(08:43):
was an issue is the issue ofBiden's open borders and the catastrophe that its
calls to the state of Texas. But one thing we've learned, and that
is is not just Texas. It'sa border state. Now. Every state
in the United State is a borderstate. Just ask the mayor of New
York City by this and the factof the matter is yes, Texas is
(09:11):
building our own border wall. We'vedeployed the National Guard on the border to
repel illegal immigrants from entering into Texas, and we are sending migrants on buses
to sanctuary cities across the United Statesof America. I know that with Hillary
(09:31):
Hicklin, I have a partner whowill ensure that Texas will continue to lead
the way to secure the border untilwe have a president who's going to return
normalcy and do exactly what was donefour years ago when we had the lowest
illegal border crossings in forty years.By having the remaining Mexico policy, the
Title forty two policy, the endof catching, release and building the border
(09:52):
wall, we can and we willhave secure border. But to help us
get there, I need Hillary Hicklandelected to represent House District fifty five in
Austin, Texas. This region thatwe gathering in here today is incredibly important
(10:16):
to the future of Texas. Toensure that this region lives up to his
promise you need to elect Hillary Hicklandas your next state representative. Join me
in wilcoming. Hillary Hickland, Hello, Oh my goodness, I'm so overwhelmed,
(10:41):
Governor. Thank you here. Endorsementmeans everything. You know what it
takes, you know me, andyou believe in me. I won't let
you down. Arah, Thank you. I also want to make sure that
I think seventeen in South you guysare amazing. Thank you for opening your
(11:03):
doors and accommodating us. SUS shortnotice, but this is great, and
this is an example of the smallbusinesses, the restaurants that we have that
make our community so special. Ilove this place, this district is amazing,
and I want to be your voice. Also. I think my family,
thank you so much for being here, and my friends, oh my
(11:26):
goodness, thank you for coming. And the other thing is there are people
here that I don't know yet.I want to me too, but thank
you for coming. And I knowthe reason that you're here is because you
see the same thing that I do. We have work to do. You
want change, I do too.I will get it done right now.
(11:54):
We do not have good representation forour day strict in Austin. Our voice
is being ignored. I know.I've been there, and there's a lot
of people in Austin that are paidto be there and have agendas that are
not your voice. Who is thererepresenting you? Pick me, I'll do
(12:18):
it. Yeah. The representative thatwe have now started his political career in
nineteen eighty five. He wants moretime. I say, time is up.
(12:39):
This is not the time to dopolitics as usual. That all political
game that's been happening forever is ineffectiveand we are suffering because of it.
We have to have someone in Austinthat represents our values, that will be
our voice for family, for taxpayers, for the everyday citizen. I know
(13:03):
what that's like because that was me. I went there and I advocated for
my issues. That's I'm a momand I'm an advocate, and I want
to advocate for your issues. Sothe things that are important, we've heard
about it. It's our border. We have got to secure our border.
(13:24):
Number one. Number one. Wehave drugs and crime coming across our border
and we have got to establish it. This is not an immigration issue.
This is border security, very different. We have to continue to give relief
(13:46):
to the taxpayers. There's lots ofways that we can do it, and
our governor has led the way inthat. I'm so grateful for his leadership.
How blessed are we to have agovernor that's out They're fighting for us.
He is listening to what we want. He is listening, and I
(14:07):
am so grateful. We also needto empower parents with their God given right
over the decisions of their children's future. That is basic. Yes, no
one knows better for their children thantheir parents, but right now we have
people coming in the way of thefuture of our children. That is wrong.
(14:33):
We're not going to have it,and I'm gonna stand for it.
So people might say that I'm aone issue candidate, trust me, I've
heard it. I'm very passionate aboutschool choice and opening up opportunities to our
kids because education is so fundamental tothe future of our kids. They call
(14:54):
the great equalizer. There's nothing likethe power of a good education. So
I want to tell you, myfriend, and I hope I don't cry,
because this is what really hits homefor me. Dori Collins is a
woman after my own heart. Ihave so much respect and admiration for her
because, like me, she sawa problem and she put everything she had
(15:16):
behind the solution. She is amaster educator. She was in the public
school system and she saw too manystudents falling behind and she's not okay with
it. So she started her ownschool. You guys. She bought seven
(15:41):
acres in Temple by the railroad tracks. She has students and she's teaching them
to well. It's called Cultivate Academy, which is the perfect the perfect name
for her school because they cultivate theland. She teaches them agriculture, they
grow micro green and then they sellit to local businesses and restaurants. So
(16:03):
in that she's teaching them financial literacy, she's teaching them like entrepreneurship. She's
teaching them logic and chess, andthey are making their own music, they're
cooking in the kitchen, they're learninghow to serve the community. It is
everything that we could want, andthose students are thriving. But I will
(16:26):
tell you, yeah, she's amazing. Please talk to her. Please come
talk to her. Talk to thesethe'res what we're fighting for. When we're
talking about essays, this is it. Talk to these kids. Talk to
Dory. It's amazing. So wheneverI was talking to her, I don't
know if you remember, but shesaid, even though she keeps her tuition
(16:52):
as low as possible, she stillhas to turn away single moms and parents
that say, we need something else. My kid is not in a good
place in the traditional system. Itis wrong for anything to stand in the
way of a child's future is wrong. When it comes to the parents choosing
(17:12):
for their children, that's wrong. So Dorry said, Hilary, we we
need something or we're not gonna makeit. This is everything I'm fighting for
when it comes to essays. Essayswill make all the difference. It will
allow her to grow her vision andher dream. It will allow her to
(17:32):
show others how to do that. And you guys, this is what's what's
going to revolutionize education for the oneswho are falling through the cracks. This
is what we need. So Dory, thank you so much for being here.
Who you all lover. But ifthe Texas Way opportunities open the door,
(17:57):
get out of the way, government, Like, let me live my
life, let me raise my family. Okay, that's what i want to
do. And I'm listening to you. You will have my ear because you
already have my heart. And whenI'm in Austin. I will be your
(18:18):
voice and I will be your representativein Austin. The vote for me,
yeah, I want to, Okay, thank you. I'm gonna just not
(18:40):
let me tell you. I needyou to pray for me. I need
you to vote for me. Ineeded to tell your friends and your neighbors
because this is a battle and it'sgonna take all of us. So come
with me. Okay, thank you. I'm my daughter, Nelly. Do
you want to She was gonna singa song? Do you want to sing
a song? No? She's yeah, she's you can't. It's okay,
(19:04):
I'll help you. No, thankyou. She was practicing too, saying
texas or texas and she knows thesecond verse, y'all, who even knows
her first verse? And do youthink in the second verse? I was
like, okay, I'm doing allright anyway. I cannot thank you enough
(19:25):
for being here. Please say hi, I'm here. I want to meet
you and I want to hear yourheart because I will be your voice in
Austin. Thank you so much, everybody, and of course that you've been
all right.
