Tara (00:01):
This is the EWN podcast network.
Hi. I'm Tara from Plus Fitness with Tara. I'm a curvy,
fun body positive coach andpersonal trainer. I love
business and fitness. Do youhave the tools you need to be a
rock star in fitness?
A healthy love of yourself andhelp for me in sifting through
health news will do that. I'vegot fitness topics and, yes,

(00:21):
rock stars aren't born. They'rebred and experienced and fired.
Let's do this together.
Hi there, and welcome to plus fitness with Tara, the
podcast. Today, I have a specialguest on, Denise Engs, who's
gonna talk about what she'sdoing with her business, what
she's doing with her health. Shehas a great event coming up
that, you know, I just thought Iwould do it again this time of

(00:42):
year because, hopefully, we canpromote it and get more people
interested, but also just sharethe joy that she has in hosting
events like this, which isreally important because
sometimes you can go to eventsor retreats and, you know, it's
very machine. It's not verypersonal. But I can tell you
right now, Denise will bring herflare to it and make it
personal, and it'll befantastic.
So I'll let her talk about it.But maybe, Denise, we can start

(01:04):
off by, sharing your email orsocial media where you want
people to find you first so weget that right off the bat and
stuff. Where do you want peopleto find you?

Denise Angst (01:13):
Awesome, Tara. Thank you so much for having me
again here. I was so excited toget invited again. I just love
chatting with you. It's just sogreat to share, and people can
find me.
I am running my social mediaunder at denise my journey. So
that's where people can find meor my email address,
deniseinx17@gmail.com, and I amalways available any way they

(01:39):
would like to try to get a holdof me. I always love to chat.

Tara (01:43):
Awesome. And that's deniseangst17@gmail

Denise Angst (01:49):
dotcom? That's right.

Tara (01:50):
Yep. Alright. Perfect. Got it. Good.
Alright. Okay. Yes. So why don'twhat what would you like to chat
about first? Why don't we chatabout the retreat first just so
we can just get that, you know,in everybody's mind while
they're listening to the rest ofthe podcast?
So what is happening with yourretreat this year?

Denise Angst (02:06):
I am I am so excited about it. I am the
closer it gets, I'm more excitedabout it. Last year was my very
first retreat that I ever ran,and I it was so overwhelming. It
was so beautiful. I honestlyhave to say when I walked out of
there at the end, I felt like itwas more than I ever expected it

(02:29):
was to be.
So it was just so beautiful andeveryone I felt took so much
with them out of there, whichwas just amazing. So going into
my second one, I was like, oh mygoodness, I have to, how do I
top this? And, you know, I wastelling myself, no, you don't
need to top anything. You justneed to be you. And, I mean, I

(02:51):
was just excited to do it again.
So I booked the dates right awayand I'm going forward. Anyways,
we are almost full, I just havea couple spots left to fill, but
this year I decided instead ofme baking bread, I decided to
bring a friend in that Iactually years ago when I moved
to Canada was painting with, shehad painting classes. So, I

(03:16):
reached out to her, she's anartist, she's, she does
beautiful, beautiful artistthings and paints and does glass
things. Anyways, I had thisimagination of journaling.
Journaling is something that alot of people always talk about
and a lot of people do it.
A lot of people are like me thatthink, Oh, I should try to learn

(03:39):
to journal more. I shouldjournal more, but it's something
that we constantly work ontrying to figure out what is the
right way to journal, how do Ijournal, what feels right for
me, right? So I thought if wecould paint a journal, that
would be beautiful. So Crystalwas all excited about that, and

(04:00):
we are doing, like, oh mygoodness. What do I what did I
call it?
Liv, she came up with thiswonderful, wonderful, wonderful,
wonderful way of calling it, andhere we go. I have to find it
now because, of course, I'm notprepared here. Live your life in
color. Right?

Tara (04:21):
Oh, I love

Denise Angst (04:21):
it. Live our life in color. And as she's gonna
paint this journal with us, weare gonna talk about how color
impacts your mood and emotions. So I just love the how we you
know, the whole idea of doing itand how we're doing it. And then
I have Ruth Montgomery join usagain and she was with us last

(04:43):
year for the whole weekend.
She does all kinds of goodthings, with the Maven project.
But, so we are doing somecreative journaling, workshop
with Ruth. So, so that justfeels it just flows into it and
it's just a whole day of ofbeing creative and and and just

(05:04):
going into ourselves and andtrying to figure things out.
Right? So, so I'm very, veryexcited.
And then of course, I had tohave Therese, the owner of the
retreat. She does our sound pathmeditation Friday night, and
then she does yoga with us on onSunday to kind of wrap it up.
And so, yeah. So I'm just likeit was I'm just excited about

(05:26):
it. I do think it has abeautiful flow to it this year,
so I can't wait.

Tara (05:32):
Well, I would be too. I mean, that sounds fantastic. I
love how, you know, you wentfrom thinking, how do I top this
and move to how do I open it upto see who's out there and bring
them in to meet the people thatare interested in doing this.
And I love that it's like a apaint journal and then, like, a
journal to reflect in and thewhole I mean, you guys it it's

(05:52):
almost like you're writing abook about the retreat. Do you
know what I mean?
Like, you're creating somethingso creative about this
experience they're gonna gothrough. And how rewarding will
that be by the time you do yogaon Sunday when people show you
what they've done? Do you knowwhat I mean? Like, it's it's
very impactful. Like, just tomake a difference in one
person's life is fantastic, Buta group of people and then also

(06:13):
explore something new,fantastic.
That's great. I think that'sgonna be I

Denise Angst (06:17):
think that's gonna go over so well. Time.

Tara (06:19):
Yeah. Yeah.

Denise Angst (06:19):
So much time for ourselves. And, you know, as as
emotionally, timing it can be,the weekend, because we work
through so much, as much as wefeel so light walking out of
there. Like last year, it feltlike, you know, you go away on a
weekend and and you eat and youdo all these things and you come

(06:41):
home and you feel like £10heavier. Well, coming home from
the retreat, it felt like £10lighter because it felt like so
much went off, you know? So it Idon't know.
I'm just for anyone that signedup, I'm just so excited for
them, and I hope there will be afew more that will decide to
come and, and take it in.

Tara (07:03):
Yes. So, again, you could find Denise some more
information about her retreat byemailing her at
deniseank17@gmail.com or findingher on socials, Denise, my
journey. And, I just you know, Ithink what's really cool about
this is, like, I can't go thisyear because I have my surgery
this year. But, like, you know,if you're hosting it annually,
I'm I'm already like, okay. Whatwhat can I do to make sure I'm

(07:25):
there despite any snowstorms?
Because that was the problem. Our plane got canceled last
night. And I'm like, maybe I'llbook the whole week. So then
that way, like, I can get upthere earlier, visit some
family, and then just and thenjust drive to you. Do you know
what I mean?
In Ontario. Because, you
know, then I can then
I can counteract the effect of the snowstorm
canceling the flight. Do youknow what I mean? So be there a
little early so that

(07:45):
if I get canceled one day, maybe I'll make it
out the next day. And if I don't make it out the next day,
because it's 2 days storming outthe 3rd day. You know, like,
it's a Canadian weather. We haveto plan that way almost. It's
dangerous, like, because younever know.
And I I know you're safe, butthe flights, they're ruthless.
Like, they don't care.
Like, if you get canceled, like,

Denise Angst (08:01):
if you don't book you.

Tara (08:02):
I know.

Denise Angst (08:02):
Yeah. I was so sad you couldn't come. I was so sad.
It was like, oh my goodness. Iwas so excited to meet you in
person.
But you know what? That'sexactly what it is. Right? I've
got people reaching out andthey're like, well, can can you
not do one in warmer weather orwhatever? And you know what?
This time of year, I am a dairyfarmer along with my husband. We
do have our own dairy farm here.We are very busy with a lot of

(08:26):
other things too. But this timeof year just aligns for me to do
this and put all my energy intoit. And it actually, what I
realized last year when I didit, my husband was a really
great support too because it ishis slow season.
So so it just, you know, despitethe weather, despite the winter,

(08:47):
despite the hard things that, you know, roads can get whatever
and all this and that, we willwork through it. We're not
afraid of it. We're gonna figureit out. And you know what? If if
that's happening, I I mean, Iwas so sad to not have you guys
come, but, yeah, like you say,we can try to organize around it
and just go go earlier or dosomething around it too.

Tara (09:10):
Well, there's lots of certain people that travel for
snow. Yeah. Some people couldtravel for snow. Do you know
what I mean? Like, they want tosee snow.
They wanna be in snow. Oh, yeah. And winter is not necessarily,
you know, a put off foreveryone. You know? No.
I think we just tend to, like, get drawn into the cycle of,
like, well, it's been so longbecause of the weather when
we're in Canada. But, you know, like you said, we're not scared
of it. It's almost refreshingbecause it's on the hinge part

(09:32):
of when spring starts to come.Do you know what I mean? So it's
a it's a really I think it's areally as long as it works for
you, it's a perfect time.
Do you know what I mean?

Denise Angst (09:39):
And I think that's what I feel like. That's why
initially last year, that was aweekend that was available at
the Belgrade retreat, and andthat was the place where I
wanted to run my retreat.

Tara (09:52):
Yeah.

Denise Angst (09:53):
And and it was available and it felt so right
because it kind of, you know, itkind of ends winter and starts
spring. And it's just, and Imean it is a beautiful place.
Anyone that can get therewhether there's gonna be lots of
snow, whether it's already alittle bit spring, it could be
anything at this time of year.Right? But it's a beautiful
space with nature that you cango for a little walk by the

(10:15):
river.
There's a hot tub and Idefinitely always totally make
sure that, everyone attendingthe retreat knows that they can
say, No, I don't want to dothis. I just want to take time
for myself. Or I'm also tryingof course to have that time in
between so everyone can just sitback and just be dumb. And Yeah.

(10:38):
With having Ruth there the wholeweekend, like, she's such a
great guidance and and and tochat with.
So it it just was a beautifulexperience.

Tara (10:47):
Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. Awesome. Okay.
Alright. So why don't we, checkinto what's going on now? You've
got some, news about yourbusiness, and, you know, we can
and we don't have to dig intoanything that happened with
Bode, but, you know, it's almostlike planting a seed of
something new. You know? Boddie, you know, was a grounding for

(11:08):
all of us for who were part ofit.
And, you know, one of the thingsthat's great is I don't think
anybody on this podcastlistening will realize it, but
Jason and I have never met inperson. But we have a connection
through Boddie, throughdifferent groups. And that's how
I met most of my online friendswas through Boddie because it
was direct marketing. Yes. Butalso, you know, besides
pitching, people wanted to findout more about you and what you

(11:30):
were doing, you know, and andwhere health was in your life.
So so so, Denise, why don't youtell me about Shaquille and what
you're finding with that?

Denise Angst (11:39):
I, I love to. I love to. And and you are so very
right. Potty was for 8 years, itwas my place where there was a
team, there was people, therewas all kinds of different
people. I met so many online andthen I was able to meet them at
summit and at the success clubtrip.
And and it was just such a greatenergy, a great place to go to

(12:03):
to to just tank up. Even myhusband realized it as he came
along for the Success Club trip.I think that's when he realized
what I was talking about withthis whole team aspect. And at
first when Bonnie announced thatthey were going to go to to a
different business model, I waslike, Oh, well, that's not a big
deal for me. Well, a few weeksinto it, I realized that it was

(12:25):
actually a bigger deal than Ithought it would be because I
realized that I was losing thatteam aspect.
Not necessarily the team online, but that those summits, those
team get togethers in person. SoI watched others and and Shaklee
was one of the companies thatkinda came came up and I kinda
looked at it. I had a greatvisit with a friend, also a body

(12:49):
friend, and and we chatted aboutit and she she decided to go for
it. And so we we chatted aboutit and I decided, you know what?
I can't lose anything.
There is a team behind Shaklee, there is Summits, there is
Trips, there is all that stuffbehind there. Their, commission

(13:10):
system is a bit different, butit is a business so you can take
it the way you want to. What Ireally liked about it, it
doesn't, it doesn't tie you thatyou have to build a team as much
as Bonnie did, which wassomething that I never really,

(13:31):
succeeded at and not notsucceeded. I just didn't care
for it. I want to help people, Iwant to help people find energy
and when I help people findtheir joy in life because that
is what I found through doingbody program and through finding
the teams and finding the peoplein there.
So, Shaklee kind of gives methat same thing. I mean, first

(13:53):
of all, there's a lot of bodypeople that have switched over
to Shaklee. So we may meet againat the summit, which is cool,
but it's also just an option forme. So they do offer a whole
load of different products. SoI'm obviously at first I was
interested in the shakeenergized type thing because
that's what I've really beenusing through body.

(14:16):
I am still not a 100% sure if Ican go for the Shaklee stuff
totally, but I'm going to mix itup here and there. I love the
options of vitamins andsupplements that Shaklee offers.
I love the Meology where you canput in all your personal
information and it will give youan option of what you can use
for your goals and your type ofbody. The cleaning products, I

(14:41):
didn't even think they would beexciting for me and I am so
excited about them, like, thehand dish soap. I just got the
laundry soap and used it thefirst time, like, that hand dish
soap has just a little tiny bitused and I've had it since mid
December.
Like it's gonna last me half ayear and it was like $11. So,

(15:02):
yay. That is so cool. So,anyways, laundry soap, I'm
excited. I, what else?
Energize. I love theirmultitaskers. Good Cut and Go,
of course, has a deliciousflavor, that raspberry flavor.
Up and going up and glowing islike a collagen, so I've been

(15:22):
using it. Now, mind you, I needto say this straight out.
I mean, you don't live a healthylife on supplements. You gotta
eat the real food, you got toeat your proteins, you got to
eat your vegetables and fruitand all this kind of stuff.
Right? We can't just pilesupplements into ourselves and
think that's going to fix ourproblem. But, Saksley gives us a

(15:47):
real big variety.
Also has skin products, which Iactually thought I wasn't gonna
try. Then I ended up, getting acleanser and a serum, and I've
been using it the last 2 daysand it feels pretty good. So, I
will see. I've got, very verysensitive skin. So, I usually
when I try something else itjust breaks up right away.

(16:10):
Anyways, this seems to go prettygood because I mean, I've got
red cheeks as it is. So I can'tget rid of them. But, they go
with me. They go with mypersonality. But, anyways, I,
yeah.
So, I just love the the varietyof products. I love that there's
a lot more options for me tooffer. And I also love the part

(16:33):
that I possibly could bring thisinto the community to some kind
of, you know, craft shows orChristmas shows or whatever
where people come together andthen actually get the personal,
the social part out of it. Notnecessarily to go and sell
1,000,000 of dollars of stuff, but to get that social because
we do need that personal socialconnection, to to live to live

(16:58):
well. Right?
So Yeah. That was something thatI thought when I signed up. I
thought, you know, this couldgive me this possibility. Now,
mind you, I'm not losinganything with it. So I signed
up.
I don't know where this istotally going yet. I am still
affiliated with Body. So, anyonethat still wants to do Body,

(17:18):
right now I'm just encouragingeveryone. If you are getting
Body, make sure you find anaffiliate that sells it and buy
it through their links. Don'tjust buy it on the website
because you're just supportingthe corporation and there's so
many of us out there that haveworked so hard and have helped
so many people and it has helpedourselves and we still believe

(17:41):
in it.
I still totally believe in theonline platform. As I just said
earlier, I'm not so sure I canditch Shakeology and Energize
totally. So I am still asupporter of the body platform,
the body, you know, ShakeologyEnergize and I still run my
group online. So I still havethat accountability piece that's

(18:01):
free. So anyways, I just keepencouraging people that if you
want Body, if you want to tryit, make sure you find an
affiliate.
Of course, you can find me oryou can find I don't know if
Tara signed up as an affiliate. You are? So you can find any of
us and and, and and sign upthrough us. So just do not just

(18:22):
got the stuff through the onlinewebsite. So that's what I do.
I do so I do the body, I do thisexactly. And then I also am,
using Growth Day, which is agreat personal development
platform. And I've really beenusing the daily fires, a lot. I
actually was going through astruggling phase, September,

(18:43):
October, November, December. Our, 2 boys have moved out and
our daughter went back touniversity in September.
So, we pretty much went from afull house with extras to a
totally empty house. I think itwasn't the empty house that was
hard for me. I actually enjoythe empty house and less laundry

(19:06):
and all this kind of stuff. ButI was struggling because we have
the farm and we are at the startof succession. I was struggling
because I became the businessmom.
I became the mom that wassending my kids texts about
business, about stuff that'shappening on the farm, about
things that they needed to giveme an answer and about this and

(19:27):
that. And I think that was mybiggest struggle and I had to
struggle through it and I had tostart to voice it and I had to
do real, real hard personaldevelopment to find my way to be
content, you know? And I thinkalso the kids realized, you know
what, if we can give mom a 10minute visit, just a visit, just

(19:50):
to see how she's doing, that'sall she needs. She doesn't need
a lot but, you know, every 10days or whatever give me a few
minutes of your time and tell meabout your life. So

Tara (20:00):
Yeah.

Denise Angst (20:00):
So that it's not business. It's not farm related.
So so that's, I mean, that'shard inform families as is,
right? Business and personal andfamily is so connected and very,
very hard to draw the line. Sothat was what I struggled with
and personal development.
So at first when body went down,I dove right into Growth Day and

(20:22):
that was I'm an affiliate withGrowth Day too. And and it just
was and it really did help me.Right? I I really, really I've
used it before and I juststarted to really listen to the
daily fires and then alsorealized how much more the app
really offers with mastermindsand and just courses and stuff.

(20:43):
So I've actually, oh mygoodness, I do so many things.
I offer a once a month Zoom callfor my group, for everybody
that's in my group on Facebooknow because the app closed down
with the group part. And so I'veactually last couple of times
I've used growth day content tokinda help, you know, to chat

(21:06):
about things on that Zoom callonce a month. So, so, yeah, it's
it's just a great platform. So,yeah. So that's another part of
my life right now.
Just a load of things.

Tara (21:16):
Lots of lots of lots of juggling. I I can understand it.
I think I think what you have tounderstand is while Denise is
talking about all the stuff, sheis her smile is on. So she is
lighting up from, like, different aspects of what she
does. It may sound she's doing, like, a ton, but a lot of it
complements each other.
For example, the Shaklee isthere for people who want the
well rounded interaction socialinteractions of community, in

(21:39):
conference, in summit, intravels, in meeting in person at
fairs, wherever you're gonna be,you can probably go to your home
and even talk to you aboutShaklee. Right? Whereas, like,
Boddy was very much online. Andthen you still have the
affiliate for Boddy in casepeople wanna just keep using
that product so they can findyou for all things that Denise
My Journey on Instagram and heremail, denise angst17@gmail.com.

(22:02):
But what I wanna let you know iswhile she's talking about this,
she's you know, the pharmasuccession is a very big thing.
That's your main bread andbutter. But you found out a way
to cope with it by utilizingpersonal development with your
growth ambassadorship. So Ithink that's fantastic. Like, a
lot of it is like you're almostlike you're building your own
team in 1 person. Like, you havea lot of things going on the go,

(22:23):
but you know how to supportyourself after trying things out
to see what would work.
Some people would just caveunder the pressure of not being
able to separate business momand personal mom. But you're
like, I need help, and youchose, you know, Brenda Bouchard
to deal with. And that'sfantastic. So my little story is
when I was when when Bodie wentdown and I was trying to figure

(22:43):
out what was going on and whereI wanted to be and what I wanted
to do, that's when I I joinedSuper Patch, which is just a
side thing. But I had to laughbecause I also went to Growth
State because it was reallypromoted at that time.
You know, everybody almosteverybody coach was doing Growth
State because we're all tryingto find answers, and we've all
had years of personaldevelopment. So we're looking
for something immediate. Andwhen you get that daily fire in
your in your app, it's cool. I'mnot an affiliate, but I'm a

(23:07):
customer, and I love that I getthis daily fire. I listen to it.
So while I was on this trip, Iwas like, oh my god. I don't
know what I'm doing. Like, I wasfeeling kinda low. I went to the
Growth Day app, and I looked up,you know, troubling times. And
that popped, like like seminarsand classes and, like,
workshops.
So I did one that was, like, youknow, 3 separate parts an hour
each long, and it wastransformational. And it was

(23:29):
because it came right into myphone, and, like, I I didn't
have to do anything other thanlisten, take a few notes, and
ponder. Do you know what I mean? And I just it was the most
accessible method of personaldevelopment I've seen yet. So if
you want more information ongrowth day, please connect with
Denise, Denise my journey onInstagram,
deniseank17@gmail.com, and askher about it because, like, it's

(23:51):
really helpful.
And she could tell you aboutwhat she's doing for her own
wellness, why Shaq Lee, whystill with Bonnie, and give you
the best path for your bestself, you know, for better
health, for improved mentalhealth, for improved mental
health. True.

Denise Angst (24:06):
Yeah. Growth day and, like, I'm just I just wanna
put that in there, like, yousay, I use the the, you can
score yourself every day or youcan journal too and it gives you
growth prompts and all thisstuff. And when we talked about
journaling earlier to at myretreat. Right? Growth Day app
has actually given me some waysto to to do a little bit of

(24:28):
journaling and and kind of makeme think about things and think
about my life and think about, you know, how I'm gonna crush
through that next, challenge.
So I, that the scoring then, when you do your scoring, it
pops up a couple of videos foryou that help you in whatever
situation you're in. Like, say, your sleep score is really low,

(24:52):
it will give you some video thatwill that will talk to you
through different options of howyou can try to get better sleep
and all this kind of stuff. Soit is a really amazing app.

Tara (25:03):
Yeah. It's a connector for sure. Like, if you have an issue
or you're feeling good and youwant to support your good mood
further, you just connect ongrowth day. It's fantastic. So
yes.
So Yeah. I'm I'm so glad to hearthat you're doing all that,
Jess. I mean, a lot of people belike, oh, you have so much going
on. But at the same time, youknow, you're doing what's right
for you, so never feel guiltyor, like, that you're not in the

(25:24):
right spot because I have to saymy forties has been the most
self explorative years of myentire life. And I I knew it was
gonna be, but I didn't know howbad it was gonna be that I was
gonna hit every personaldevelopment.
And now, of course, because ofBlack Friday emails and, you
know, all kinds of stuff, youknow, heading from about
November on to January throughBoxing Day through till, like,

(25:46):
New Year's Day sales, everypersonal development person I
ever talked to entire world or,like, had a newsletter come in
flooded my emails. And I waslike, oh my god. Everyone's got
a book out. I don't have a timeto read all that. So but Growth
Day is an app on the phone, andit just, poof, pops it up.
And you're just you're brandinvolved, and you don't, you
know, I don't have to wait forthe book to arrive. You know? I
still love Rachel Hollistercoming along. I still love Mel

(26:08):
Robbins. I will read theirbooks.
But Yeah. I'm telling you, growth day is so accessible.
It's, you know, it's just rightthere at your fingertips,
really.

Denise Angst (26:14):
Oh, yeah. I'm reading Let Them, Mel Robbins
right now.

Tara (26:18):
Oh.

Denise Angst (26:19):
Everyone should read that book. Every single
person in this world should readthat book. And, you know, I
wanna say to you when you'retalking about this, like, all
this stuff, all these thingsthat I've learned, This has been
8 years of my journey. Itstarted at a total low point
where all I needed was loseweight. I knew I needed to lose

(26:40):
weight and that's all it was allabout.
And that's when I found the bodyand somehow this community has
been able to help me switch mymindset, has shown me to do
personal development, has taughtme that I am allowed to take
time for myself. With all thisjourney going on, I have, I know

(27:03):
there has been several times inmy life in the last 8 years
where I've made decisions for methat I know I would not have
been able to make prior, priorto me being on this journey,
prior to me working on myself. So I mean today I am such a
strong believer on working onyourself and and not looking

(27:24):
around you. You need to work onyourself, you need to start with
you to get to the better places. You cannot look around you and
watch everybody else and think, why can't they do it?
Oh, I'm never gonna be able todo that. You know what? I did
that for years. I said, I can'tget up in the morning. I can't
do it.

(27:45):
It it didn't get me anywhere, but it got me somewhere when I
started to say, hey, if they cando it, I can too. So, I mean,
going on this personaldevelopment journey and and like
I said, it was about losingweight. Over the years it's
become about being strongerpersonally, making decisions for

(28:06):
me that are very, very hard attimes, but I have to make them
in order to feel the happinessand the joy in life. Some things
you have to cut out. I also dobelieve very strongly, you know,
being a farmer, raising kids ina farm household, having
business and family at onekitchen table.

(28:29):
I strongly, strongly believe Icould not be where we are right
now in our farm succession andour communication with our
family, if I wouldn't haveworked on myself so hard that I
am strong enough to to to besomewhat of a leader of this.
Right? And I mean, I'm very, very excited. Like, we are

(28:50):
holding family meetings for thiswhole succession planning and
we're actually just coming up toan to our next one. We don't do
them every month right now.
We're very much at the start ofit, but we feel very strongly
that our kids, all of them, farming and non farming need to
be involved in this succession. So I'm excited, right? And my

(29:12):
husband said the other day, weneed to chair, everybody needs
to take a turn at sharing thesemeetings. And I'm like, awesome.
I love it, right?
Because I've kind of been theleader in getting agendas ready
and getting minutes out and, and, you know, but, but this is
good. This is creating a teamand, and so, yeah. So I, I think

(29:32):
even though, you know, myhusband doesn't do all the work
or whatever on himself and allthis kind of stuff and, but
still me doing it has changedthings in our family and I am, I
mean, I can say out loud, I amproud of myself for doing all
the work I've done. There isstill a lot of work to do. There

(29:55):
is still struggles that Istruggle through.
There is still days where itputs me down and I, you know, I
feel like giving up and and andI think that but that is life.
Right? So but we learn to gothrough that. So so resilience
is my word for 2025.

Tara (30:12):
Oh, very cool. I love that. I love that. My word is
aware. Just aware.
Aware. Aware of things in myfamily and myself. Yeah. Yeah.
Aware.

Denise Angst (30:24):
Because sometimes we also need to just sit back
and be quiet and just sit backand let it happen. Right? So And
I think that's what I kinda dowith all these businesses right
now too. Right? I'm I'm doing itall and it's fun and I enjoy it
and I'm just kinda letting ithappen.

Tara (30:40):
Yeah. Well, and also, I think I hear you too. You're
carving out your own time foreverything. You know, what you
wanna do is the most importantthing, and then everything else
comes to a priority as to whatfeels good for Denise right now.
Do you know what I mean?
Like Yeah. Because, like, youknow, I know you mentioned too.
You have a chapter in a bookcoming up, which is pretty cool.
So if you wanna hear a littlebit about that, that would be
great. And I see this is ablessing.

(31:02):
A lot of people a lot of peoplesay, oh my god. A book you're
you know, my eWomen Network bookcame out just a few months ago
and, a lot of work. And I said, well, I had that done, like, a
year ago. Know what I mean? Likeand it took that long for it to
be published, to be edited tothe whole thing.
And there were other authorsthat took time to get everybody
together and get everythingdone. I said, so it looks like I
was really busy. I'm like, but Ireally just wrote it and sent it

(31:22):
off, had it edited, and that wasit. Do you know what I mean? And
I said, so time consuming, no,but fantastic timing to come in
to play around Christmas.
You know? So it worked outreally well. They had great
sales. We became another Amazonnumber one bestseller, and it's
cool. But I just had to laughbecause I was just like, people
are like, oh, there's no grassunder growing under your feet.
And I'm like, I haven't heardthat term in a long time. But I

(31:43):
just kinda laughed and I waslike, yeah, but live life.
That's my motto. You know, youdon't have to do what I do to be
successful or to live your ownlife. I said, but I'm living the
life that I want, and thatinvolves me writing.
You know? And I'm just like soI'm just like, so welcome to the
world of becoming an author,Denise.

Denise Angst (32:00):
Oh my god. I'm so excited. Excited?

Tara (32:02):
Yeah. So, like, if you wanna share a little bit of what
you can about it, that'd begreat.

Denise Angst (32:07):
So it was obviously at a body event when I
talked to a girl that waswriting this chapter in, book 1
that came out. And it's, like, Ithink there was 12 authors, and
she was, like, Denise, you gottajoin us. You've got stories. You
gotta join us. And I'm, like, you know what?
I have always thought aboutwriting a book. I mean, I've got

(32:29):
I do have stories from, out oflife. Right? Like, I mean, just
the immigration story comingfrom Switzerland to Canada is a
big one. I have lots of storiesto write, stories of, you know,
being a farm wife, strugglingthrough finding myself in this
place.
And because really creating thisfarm, putting this farm

(32:51):
together, coming here, doingthis is my husband's dream.
Right? But I wanted it too withhim. I agreed to do it. So but
there's lots of stories.
So I was like, well, this wouldbe cool. This would be cool. But
you know what? I do not havetime. I just don't have time.
Well, lo and behold, a fewmonths ago she sends me a
message. Hey, book 2 is probablygonna come. You're gonna be an

(33:15):
author. Right? And I'm like, Ohmy goodness.
And you know what? I didn'tthink much. I pretty much did
what I did when I joined Body. Ijust clicked, signed up, and
started paying for it. And sonow I'm like, holy God, I do not

(33:36):
know what I'm gonna write about.
I have no clue what I'm gettingmyself into. Absolutely no clue,
but I'm scared, but I'm soexcited. Right? So, anyways,
it's a great program, like sheit's a it's a coach that puts it
together and then there's apublishing company, and and so

(33:56):
it's like a whole, you know, youyou get together and you work
through it. So really, whateverit may be at the end, I am just
very excited to have this chanceto learn how a book actually is
being created and is beingpublished at the end.
Right? So, so first of all, I'mgoing to have to work on myself

(34:18):
to put this chapter together, tofigure out what I'm going to
write about. And then, so I feellike there's so much growth
coming my way through thisproject, but then also just the
experience. So, yeah. So, youwatch me at my socials, Denise,
my journey, and you will see howit will go over this next year.

(34:39):
So, we are going to startactually our first meeting is
this Wednesday. So, so, yeah, soright now, I'm just very excited
to go on this journey and veryexcited to the last, for the
last planning going on for myretreat.

Tara (34:55):
Yeah. I I, you know, I you know, so it's gonna be funny,
but I bet you anything. I'llhave you on again when the book
comes out. I'll have you onagain when the book comes out so
we get a little promotion behindit and stuff whenever it's
ready. But I have a feeling Imean, I'm kinda I'm kinda
sensing, and I know you've got alot on your plate, and you're

(35:17):
not thinking this now.
Oh. But, eventually, you mightin the within the next I would
say within the next 2 or 3years, there's could be a Denise
Ang's podcast coming out. It mayjust be once a month.

Denise Angst (35:26):
Oh my god. You know what

Tara (35:27):
I mean? You know, once every quarter, but I can I can
see you talking to people, andit would because it would help
promote Shaklee? It would helppromote your, you know, body. It
would help promote your books.Like, you know, because I see
books finesse because once youget hooked into it as an author,
sometimes you get hooked on it.
So, you know, over time, like, this is not, like, something you
have to, like, jam into rightaway. But I'm just you know, a

(35:48):
year ago, we talked aboutbecause you're asking me about a
podcast and what was involved. And, you know, yes, I do mine
twice a month, but if you doyours independently, you could
do it once a month and it onyour own time, record it
whenever, let it go live, and,you know, on a set date and
stuff. It's like promoting onsocial media. You can you can
post in the calendar.
So, you know, it it really couldbe something cool. So I just

(36:09):
wanna tell you, I think, youknow, we're gonna wrap up in
about 5 minutes. But I I thinkwhat I love about hearing about
all of this is, yes, you know,we all experience lows. We all
have those, you know, downtimes. We talk about them because other
people have them too.
We share things without pushingour own agenda on other people,
but we open up our hearts to saywith compassion, I feel you. I

(36:30):
understand that you've beenthrough that. But also that we
recognize too things like, forexample, just me hearing about
your dealing with the familysuccession thing, that's a
tricky jungle, you know, becauseit's family dynamics plus
business. And Very much. Youknow, these children you've
raised for years, you know, andtry not to look at them as their
nappies, the whole thing.
Do you know what I mean? Like,it's just so what's great about

(36:52):
it is, like, you dug in apersonal development and figured
it out a way, and then yourhusband came up with, I think,
someone who's a team leader, youknow, besides not just you, you
know, and you're just like sothey're working with you. Like,
you know what I mean? Like, there's no there may be a little
resistance, sure, for somepeople, but they they're
interested enough to show up tothese meetings and give their
input. And they're alsointerested in showing up every

(37:13):
10 days for 10 minutes to tellabout their life without
business.
Like, there's a lot of caring, alot of heart in what I hear from
your family, and that is aresult of what you and your
husband have built coming fromanother country. Do you know
what I mean? You didn't justbuild a farm, you built a heart.
So fantastic. I see it.

Denise Angst (37:28):
And that is that is the thing. Right? That's what
we want. That's my goal. Right?
It's my goal is to to to help mykids succeed at what they love
doing, which we have 2 kids thatlove farming. 1 loves the dairy,
1 wants the dairy, 1 loves morethe cropping. So help them
succeed in trying to find a wayso they can do what they love

(37:49):
doing, not necessarily on a fulltime basis, but at least in some
way. And then, and then alsohave the the our daughter who is
not interested in farming butloves life in the country, you
know, feel included. And, and Ithink at the end having this
farm family go on into anothergeneration, also that the the

(38:15):
reason why we're doing isbecause we, if, if that's what
our kids want to keep it in thefamily we're gonna try to make
it happen.
Yeah. And because of and that'sthe heart, right? That's where
the heart comes in. I mean myhusband and I are not, stuck
here. Like we could put the forsale sign up.
It's not that we we came here,we bought this piece of land, we

(38:39):
farmed here. For us, yes, it ishome but for us home could also
be, 10 kilometers from here. Forus home could be in somewhere
totally different. But if thekids if as a family, this is
what we wanna achieve, that'swhat we're working to and that's
where the heart comes in. Right?
So so, yeah, very much heart andbusiness and numbers and it's

(39:01):
it's it's a lot, but it's it'sit's very rewarding to work
through it even though at timesit's like you just wanna throw
it all out.

Tara (39:11):
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Throw it the whole bathwater.Yeah.

Denise Angst (39:14):
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But exciting to do. Exciting to,
you know, it's been an excitingjourney.
Like, my husband has been afarmer forever and he's never
really he's worked out of home alittle bit but not much at all
in the in in all these years. So, he now our farm is not a
farm that brings income for 2families. Our son would like to

(39:37):
come home. My husband now has toface the thought of that he may
have to get an out of home farmjob or what is he gonna do in
order to make this financiallywork that our son could come
home and work at home? Right?
Because eventually, if he wantsto come home, we need to give

(39:57):
him a chance to work this far.Yeah. So so, you know, there's
all these things. So it's it's ait's a very it's a hard journey
and and maybe I'm not gonna talkabout it right now, but if we
get together again, maybe I knowmore about it. But my

Tara (40:11):
husband has

Denise Angst (40:12):
come up with some pretty cool ideas, and I'm
really proud of him. And I thinkit's partly because he's
watching me go after this too.Right? So Yeah.

Tara (40:22):
So Well, I mean I mean I mean I mean, Denise I mean, for
someone to come from anothercountry not know English and go
to all the events anyway Yeah. The because you just need to
learn the language and meet thepeople and you had to be you had
to be social. That is a drivingforce, and you can see it in
what you're doing right now andwhy personal development for you
is so important. I mean, youguys could almost create a
nonprofit in welcoming, youknow,

(40:43):
new immigrants from different countries in that
wanna do farming and show themthe ropes,
you know, like, different countries in that wanna do
farming and show them the ropes. You know? Like, but that's a
whole other project. You knowwhat I mean? But I'm just like
like, I'm just saying that couldbe a podcast topic.
That could be a book topic. Thatcould be anything. Yeah. All the
avenues you're doing arefantastic because they are
filling you up and not drainingyour cup. Do you know what I
mean?
You're you're taking care ofyou. So it's

Denise Angst (41:03):
fantastic. Why it's so cool that you invited me
again because you know what?Just talking to you, seeing you,
talking to you, it's just it isI do feel that energy and that
joy when I talk about thesethings, and that shows me that
I'm in the right place, and Ineed to just keep going where
I'm going. So

Tara (41:24):
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Denise Angst (41:25):
Thank you.

Tara (41:26):
