Speaker 1 (00:17):
Welcome back to a new episode of Podcast on the Brink. Friday,
October tenth. The big weekend for Indiana football coming up.
Hoosiers going to take on number three Oregon out in
Eugene in a matchup that will be televised by CBS
three point thirty Saturday afternoon. All eyes not just in

(00:39):
Bloomington and Eugene, allies nationally and college football and that
matchup College Game Day. We'll be there for that matchup.
We're going to talk about that game later in today's episode.
We're also going to talk about Big Ten Media Day,
which took place in Rosemont, Illinois yesterday with Josh Posea
inside the hall. Who was there before we get to Josh.

(01:01):
Just a quick reminder if you enjoy the show, please

subscription counts there, so appreciate the support on YouTube. Thanks

(01:24):
for following us. There, and thanks in general just for
following the show listening every week. We really appreciate the support.
Josh joining us from the suburbs of Chicago for the
first time, I think from the Continental fifty. Your other
two appearances on podcasts on the Brink where from San Juan,
Puerto Rico. How's it being back in Chicago? And I

(01:45):
was big to media Day yesterday?

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Well, first of all, thanks for having me today.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
It's much colder here in Chicago than it was in
San Juan, no palm trees in sight, just leaves changing
and rainy weather in the forecast. But you can't come
playing Big ten Media Day not Chicago. It was in Rosemont.
I like to point that out towards the airport. But
it was a underwhelming time had by all compared to

(02:12):
Football Media Day. I wasn't there, but I've heard so
much about it. It was in First of all, it
was in Vegas, not in a convention center in the
Chicago suburbs. But not a lot going on with Indiana specifically.
We've gotten to see the team twice in practice. We
haven't seen an exhibition game yet. Actually we have, we
saw Puerto Rico, so we know a lot more about
the team than we did when I went last year,

(02:33):
so it was a lot more questions being asked. I
think Devrees went about twenty twenty five minutes. Players about
the same, so we didn't even get the full time.
People were really struggling to just get questions out because
it became the same old thing. We didn't really hear
much new from Darren DeVries. Tucker to Vrees, and Lamar
Wilkerson provided some a little bit deeper thoughts into what

(02:56):
they see out of certain guys, but all in all,
it was a decent time.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Yeah, it seems like Big ten Media Day has changed
quite a bit over the years. You know, I went
to several media days. I even went to when they
had it in DC one year. That's kind of how
it used to be, like a mandatory thing to attend.
But FYE basketball, they've had the institutional media Day now
several years, and we had an opportunity last week last

(03:24):
Tuesday to talk to pretty much every healthy available player.
We act ualanced to talk to Darren Debrees, so makes
it a little bit less necessary to make the trip. Obviously,
y're from Chicago, it made sense for you just to
head over there. And attend for the day and ask
some questions and get some video and write some stories
for us. But I'm curious some of these West Coast

(03:47):
schools that are now part of the Big ten year
two for them Washington, Oregon, USC, UCLA. I can't imagine
that many websites or newspapers are spending the money to
send their reporters to get forty five minutes of time
in front of these coaches and players in Chicago. I'm
not right about that assumption. Was it pretty lightly attended

(04:08):
from the West Coast media contingent?

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
There was times where I think I looked over and
Eric Musselman was just sitting on his phone for about
ten minutes he was sitting at the podium. People would
come up to him sporadically. At one point I look
over at Dana Altman and there's four EYEU media members
talking to him for about ten minutes about Darren de
Brees and their relationship from Creighton. So it's really funny
how he spent probably half of his time at the

(04:35):
podium talking about Indiana and Darren Fries instead of his team.
And I'm assuming that Danny Sprinkle, Mick cron and Eric
Musselman did the same thing. They didn't really have guys
to talk about it with. They didn't have to talk
about their guys because quite frankly, no Indiana reporters going
to ask about the UCLA Brewins starting five this year

(04:59):
as they enter exit play. So it was kind of
sad to see those coaches and players. The players also
had to leave town, and they did get to have
some fun things they The Big Ten does a good
job with players, giving them the room to hang out
with one another and all those activities that they have
to do. But they also spent thirty minutes sitting on

(05:21):
their phones waiting for people to ask questions. So it
was a weird, weird situation in a just a oversized
room for a small event.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
So I'm curious just from the standpoint of what you
learned from an IEU perspective, you know, given the context
that we've had a couple open practices, you've been to
Puerto Rico to watch the three exhibition games, we've had
media Day, we had a scrimmage in Assembly Hall a
week ago today. Was there anything you learned, knew or
took away from what Darren debrees or Lamar Wilkerson or

(05:52):
Tucker Debris said on Thursday.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
I think there's a couple things that I wrote about
it yesterday, but I think what I mainly took away
is that Indiana is going to play two bigs with
Red Bailey and Sam Alexis. That was actually a lot
of talk about the two of them and how they
can compliment one another. We saw in Puerto Rico they
had to because of so much foul trouble. Don't get

(06:18):
me started about the officiating in Puerto Rico. They had
to go to that too big lineup and it worked,
not only because they're athletic guys, but they're two different
guys that can compliment Reed Bailey, he's someone that can
be a stretch five and forces force defenses to play
him out on the perimeter. And Sam Alexis, like Darren

(06:39):
Ries said yesterday, he said, he's a back to the
basket type of guy. He's not going to stretch it
out all that often. But they're going to play too big.
But it's different than last year because these are two
athletic bigs. His six eight and six' ten both can
move fairly. Well bailey more Than alexis given his ability
to shoot the. Ball but that's WHAT i took away

(07:01):
AND i really. Enjoyed another thing Is Tucker devrees is.
Healthy he's been cleared all throughout the, summer but this
is his first summer since twenty twenty two that he's
actually been able to participate in the, lifts the, workouts
and he said he's as good as you can be
through six weeks of preseason. Training but it's good to

(07:23):
see that he's healthy off of a pair of shoulder,
surgeries a bunch of things he's dinged. Up Lamar wilkerson
called them, old but it's really good to see That
indiana's best shooter most likely this, year outside Of Lamar,
wilkerson is healthy come exhibition.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
PLAY i think one of the biggest question MARKS i
have right now With indiana is just from a health,
perspective given what we witnessed last week at The cream
And crimson scrimmage that had to be cut short After
Josiah miles had a cramp and they basically ran out of.
Players obviously they could have thrown in some Walk ons
or other, guys but you get to a point in

(08:04):
a scrimmage where it's all, right you're in the fourth.
Quarter it was already shortened a little bit based on
just a number of players. Available when you see somebody
go down AND i, think out of abundance of, caution
you just end. It but details have been pretty scarce
in terms of who's actually like what the injuries are
for each, guy WHICH i. UNDERSTAND i, mean there's no
obligation FOR iu to tell us specific on, media but all,

(08:25):
right the media on. Injuries BUT i Know Jason drake
was dealing with the tow injury over the summer forced
him not to go To Puerto. Rico WHEN i saw
him at the scrimmage and the open, practice he was
actually doing a lot of the stretching and things in
the open practice and walking around pretty. Normally he seemed
like he's a little bit further along and coming. Back

(08:47):
Nick dorn sounds like his return to the to full
go is pretty. Eminent the two that the details seem
a little bit scarce on Our Alexa restitch And Josh.
Harris both of those guys were wearing boots last week In,
Bloomington So i'm curious When darren De reese was asked
about this yesterday was It did he offer anything in

(09:07):
addition to what we've what we've heard, previously or was
it kind of just we'll wait and. See it sounded
to me like from reading a little bit of the
comments that it could be a situation Where indiana is
maybe going to start the season with a couple of
these guys.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
Sideline, yeah not only are they going to start the,
season but he also said that some of these guys
will be closer To december than the start of the,
season So indiana could be without and he said two
or three that was that was the quote that he
said probably won't be available right at the beginning of the.
Season which does he consider the beginning of the season
next week or does he consider the beginning of the season.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
The, yeah so that was.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
Unclear But Nick, dorn like you, said he's very, close
but it's one of those things where he can't just
rush into gameplay right. Away his body will not take
kindly to. That so they are going to slowly but
surely bring them back in and get them physically ready for.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Basketball so it's.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Unclear if he will be ready to go for the
opener in a few. Weeks BUT i think that it
is a cause for, concern right now that two or
three guys might not come back Till.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
December, yeah especially with just a couple of key. Positions
obviously you talked About bailey And alexis playing. TOGETHER i
think that's probably a little more unlikely If Josh harris
is out and the, FRESHMAN i don't want to butcher his,
name but the young Freshman andre From. Bosnia he was a.

(10:45):
Player you know that we watched play a little bit
in the open, practice in the, scrimmage and you, KNOW
i wrote that he's a probably a year away from
making meaningful contribution on the. Court so you look at
a front court with With bailey And, alexis those are
really your two guys that Can alexis really is the

(11:05):
only rim. Protection but If Josh harris is, out he
was kind of looked at as being a guy that
could maybe give you some spot minutes at the four
of the. Five although he's a little bit. Undersized his
game is more built toward the interior and then the guard. Situation,
obviously they've got a little bit more depth there With
Connor enright Tating, Connorway Lamar, Wilkerson BUT i think they

(11:26):
need Either restitch Or Jason drake to be, available just
to give them a little bit more guard depth on this.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
Roster, yeah guard depth seems to be thin right, now
like you, said BUT i think what they want to
see is having that depth so they can play a
tougher brand of. Defense we kind of touched on defense
yesterday With Darren devrees and he said he doesn't want
to pull back guys and he wants to have. Depth

(11:55):
he said That Connor nray is a guy that he
probably has to pull back from having seven foot, files
but that's what makes him.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Great but keeping his.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Guys on the floor and having the depth so they
don't get in that foul trouble like we saw in
those three games In Puerto rico or the two. Games
Really i'll take away that first. Game you gotta have
guard depth because that's what Won indiana those games And
i'm assuming will win them games later on the.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
Season how concerning do you think is the lack of depth?
Though as you enter That marquette game that means something
obviously On november, ninth and then looking ahead to The
Big ten schedule starting in Early, december and then you've
got The Kansas state game obviously to close Out november
and you've got The louisland And kentucky. Games do you

(12:46):
think it's maybe a little bit overblown the lack of
depth because it's guys that are MAYBE i don't want
to say friend, rotation but a little lower in the depth,
chart or do you think it's something that could be
a factor when you get into some of these bigger,
games you have less bodies to go. AROUND i think
based on the way you talk about them wanting to,
play it seems like a little bit less depths could

(13:09):
be an issue as the games in the competition stiffen
up later in the month Of november and Into.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
December, yeah they want to play a fast brand of,
basketball and if you can't handle that fast, transition always
run shoot early in the shot. Clock like, physically you're
going to have to be deep in, roster AND i
don't think it's as big of an. Issue the only
ISSUE i see is that the starting five isn't a

(13:41):
national championship right, now a national championship starting, five and
so there's more parody on the roster so that it's
not much of a drop. Off so you need to
have guys off the bench who are going to keep
the same, intensity keep the same level of, play and
some of the guys are fringe that we talked, about
but bringing in that six seventh eighth. Man you don't

(14:02):
need to go, ten, eleven twelve deep that early in
the season those big, games but you got to have
some depth if you're going to want to play a
fast style basketball and beat a team Like, Marquette, Kentucky
louisville and so.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
On, YEAH i think it's very important That dorn And
miles are available to play BECAUSE i see them as
key contributors off the. Bench Trent, SISLELY i, think is
the guy that's going to get more minutes than maybe
we expected back in the, spring just based on what
we've seen out of him In Puerto rico and just
play this, spring and then obviously trying to think who

(14:35):
the other one. Is it'll be Likely Sam alexis coming
off the bench With Red bailey starting out to. Five
as you, said we could see them at times playing.
Together but ALSO i think just from a depth, perspective
it would make more sense to start one and then
kind of rotate minutes with those. Guys want to shift
gears obviously to football because there's a huge game On
saturday out In. Eugene is this you, know there were

(15:00):
some big games last year and you covered the football
program last. Year there was obviously The Ohio state. Game
there was the college football playoff game Against Notre. Dame
is this as big of a Game friday football that
you've seen in terms of regular season since you've been
covering the, Team and does it maybe exceed what the

(15:22):
what the hype was and what the kind of the
just the whole moment of The Ohio state game last.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Year.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Yeah last, year The Ohio state, game it was still Little.
Indiana it kind of felt like twenty twenty Where indiana
came in as like the fifth ranked team in the
country at the time or whatever they, were and they
didn't seem like a true. Contender indiana was more of
a contender last year than that twenty twenty, season but
it still felt, like all, right indian is probably not

(15:51):
going to get over this. Hurdle it's can they keep
it close in this game Against Ohio. State this, year
after the schilaking Of, ILLINOIS i think The illinois game
was more anticipated than this, one just because it was a.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Home game In.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
Indiana, illinois although some say not a rivalry might be a.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Rivalry there's some. Animosity i'll talk all.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Week indiana does what they, do but this week has
been scheduled or circled On Mikyle kamara's just on the.
Schedule he circled it immediately said this is our opportunity to,
win and he's excited about this. Opportunity indiana forty six
tries against the top five opponent on the, road which

(16:33):
is incredible to.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Me no.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Wins this is the, opportunity And oregon is a really
good football, team but this is the opportunity For indiana
to finally get OVER i don't want to say the.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Humph you can say the, hump the.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
Hump i'll say the hump because they've gotten over that proverbial.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Pump multi.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
YEAH i was listening To tucker To Breeze's big btn
set yesterday With Rafael davis And Andy, katz and he
dropped over the. Hump So i'm sure he doesn't know
the backstory of, that but it's gonna BE i think
it's going to be a running joke for all of
us when we hear an over the. Humph from now
back to, football, though how how good Is oregon because

(17:18):
they went on the road and obviously Played Penn. State
they controlled that game for most of. It obviously it
was closer towards the. END i believe it went to.
Overtime but then we See Penn state go TO ucla and,
Lose so then everyone's wondering how Good Penn state is. Actually,
oregon we know they were in the playoff last. Year
we know they have a ton of, talent we know

(17:39):
they're well. Coached Dan lanning one of the, Best Kurt
signetti said, it one of the best young, coaches rising
stars in college. Football expected to be a playoff team
again this. Year but how good Is oregon and how
big of a challenge is this going to be For
indiana There from based on what you wrote this morning
in your, preview it sounds like you believe that they're

(17:59):
going to have to play their absolute best to go
in and win this.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Game they might have to play better than.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
BEST i Think oregon is a really good football. Team
they that win At Penn. State ignore THAT ucla, game
because winning on the road during a white, out going
across the country Against Penn, state who was at the
time a top five, team that is no doubt a fantastic,

(18:27):
win AND i don't care what anybody. SAYS i know
the line moved from for this week's game from like
twelve and a half TO i think it's down to
seven now because Of Penn state's. Loss they Minimize oregon's
victory over. Them But Dan lanning has built something special
there In, eugene And indiana is going to have to

(18:48):
play perfect Because dante more is arguably better Than Fernando
mendoza and it's his first year starting At. Oregon he
was AT, ucla didn't play much last, year but they're
one hundred percent in the red zone this.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Year that's gonna be hard to.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
Beat and they're a, tough physical, team and tough is
an understatement About Austin. Stadium twenty two to one Is
dan landing, there AND i think back to back undefeated.
Seasons So indiana is going to have to play perfect Against.
Oregon you wrote earlier in the week something about just

(19:24):
the big moments That indiana kind of experienced last year
and maybe how that can translate to better different outcomes this.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
YEAR i don't know what they were going to say
differently about that in terms, of you, know obviously they
want to learn from those moments and they believe that
they can go in this game and. Win but is
there any way that you can see That indiana's better
equipped to go into a situation like this and they
were last year Against Ohio state and There dame because
watching those, games Obviously i'm not covering the team on

(19:55):
a day to day. Basis last, SEASON i was even
less involved BECAUSE i was just watching from home and
had nobody covering the. Team but they really looked overwhelmed
in those moments last, year and they LOOKED i don't
want to say, unprepared because those are really good football.
Teams they played for the national, championship SO i think
that's kind of maybe an unfair way to characterize, it

(20:18):
but they didn't look ready for the. MOMENT i think
it is the best way to. Say is there anything
you can point to with this year's team to make
you think going in that they're going to be better
prepared for what's? Ahead because obviously they played really well Against.
Illinois they survived Against, iowa and don't get me, wrong
a very tough place to. Play a lot of ranked

(20:38):
teams go there and. Lose that was an impressive, win
but it wasn't a dominant, win AND i think they're
going to have to take the level play up a
significant notch from what they played At iowa to win An.
Oregon But i'm just curious if you can point to
anything or think of any reason why the outcome may be.
Different and who. Knows they could go there and play
really well and still come up. Short BUT i think
that would mean a lot more than going and losing

(21:00):
by two or three.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Touchdowns, yeah last year they played, scared and even Against,
Iowa Mike, shanahan the offensive, coordinator called plays scared and
we've seen that in all three big environments that he's
played loud.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Crowd but the.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
One Thing i'll go back, to And i've been going
back to with other people in the last two, weeks
is they found a way to win At, iowa just
like it In obviously a lot more fans At Penn
state during a white, out but teams go to die
In Kinnick, stadium And indiana found a way they they

(21:38):
made they Played iowa's game and beat. Them they were
subject To Kirk farren's football and a sister that went
To iowa is the worst thing to ever watch in your,
life and it was the worst thing to. Watch But
indiana found a way to. Win teams in the past
don't do. THAT i don't think last year's team does.
That Michigan state on the road last year wasn't much

(21:59):
of a road, game or it wasn't much of a
game Because Michigan state wasn't very.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
GOOD ucla obviously was a.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
Just a horrible.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Program at that.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
Time and THEN i believe the other one Was northwestern
was basically a home game and they didn't even play that.
Well going on the road and having the experience with
this specific team and winning in a tough environment Like
iowa gives me reason That indiana can play. WELL i
don't necessarily say that they win because that they played
good At iowa and they showed me, that BUT i

(22:30):
think they can play much. Better but that, said the
offensive playbook needs to be opened. UP i seriously would
love to see a first play shot play From Fernando,
mendoza whether it be To Elijah surad Or Omar Cooper.
Junior it has to be opened up early and allow
the creativity to flow and Trust Fernando.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
Mendoza do you think there's any chance that they've been
holding back at all for a moment like, this or
do you think there was obviously the last two weeks
there's really wasn't last, week but the two games prior
there was really no reason. To i'm just kind of
curious why you think maybe the play calling has BEEN
i don't know enough about, it but you're covering this

(23:13):
more on a day day. Basis do you think there's
any chance that there's gonna be some new wrinkles that
we see On saturday that we haven't seen.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
Before, YEAH i think That indiana will be more. Prepared
i've written about it a couple of times. Now the
crowd noise that they practice two and a half hours
with every single day leading up to these. GAMES i
think they've been doing it for the past two. Weeks,
uh just trying to get acclimated with the. NOISE i
think with that play calling is a lot Of indiana.

(23:40):
Stuff the receivers are, options so they have an option
to go on a fly route or they go on
an en, route and they have to make the. Decision
they want to. Simplify that's what they've been. Doing they've
been simplifying their. PLAYBOOK i, Mean iowa stacked nine in the,
box And indiana still ran right into the right into
the teeth of defense on fourth and one multiple times

(24:02):
in that. Game so there's no check audibles With Kurt,
signetti like you said On.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
Monday SO.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
I think that they might have been holding back punches
and trying to show thing or trying not to show
their hand too. Much but at some point you got
to go to a place Like iowa and beat the
crap out of them just to show your.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
Dominance So.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
I'd like to believe that they were holding something back
for this.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Game what's the key in terms of winning this, game
in terms of being able to score enough points is
a balanced. OFFENSE i Know oregon's bigger on the lines
than In. Indiana is do you feel like they're gonna
be able to run the ball? Effectively and Is mendoza
going to get the time to be able to pick
the defense apart with the passing, Game so they've got

(24:54):
plenty of. Receivers if the guys can get, open they
can obviously move the, ball but he's got to have
time to be able to make those. THROWS i think
that's ANOTHER i think something that has to be on
the mind Of indiana going into the, game being able
to get protection on him because he's not really taking
a ton of hits this year. EITHER i mean that
that hit THAT i think we took in The iowa
game where he was kind of running towards the sideline

(25:16):
was kind of a scary. Play you don't want your
quarterback in that situation very. Often but with a team Like,
oregon their, physicality the amount of just four and five
star guys that they have on this, roster you worry
about being able to protect the quarterback, enough and you
also worry about being able to run the ball against you,
know you, know a physical defense that it's quite, frankly
just bigger Than indiana and maybe more athletic and.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
Stronger, YEAH i think the numbers that came OUT i,
saw like the weight stuff that doesn't matter. REALLY i
Think Pac coogan said it On, tuesday said Low, man
wins have learned that since third, Grade indiana is up
there With oregon in. PHYSICALITY i think people are over

(25:58):
over exaggerating the difference between these two programs right, now
maybe three years ago out of said, yes even two years,
Ago i'd agreed with you and Said oregon's much, Bigger
they're much. BETTER i think That indiana has an opportunity
to Protect Fernando mendoza and then with a running back
Like Roman, hemby he doesn't need much space and when
he gets the yards after contact that he gets will

(26:21):
push the push the pile, forward so they'll set the run.
There but the passing game needs to set up that.
Run they need to Keep oregon. Honest but as for,
Defensively indiana gets D'Angelo pond's back and that is that
is gigantic because in The iowa, game they played a
bunch of soft zone coverage they're trying to uh. GET

(26:44):
i think it Was Rylan gandhy in his position just
more acclimated and didn't want to put him in too
much stress in man. Coverage so you saw a lot
of dinks and doinks And Mark ronowski getting those first
downs on third down from those zone coverages in the
middle of the.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
FIELD i.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
THINK i Think indiana needs to get pressure On Dante.
Moore he's taken one sack this. YEAR i think that's
the biggest. Thing Not indiana's offensive, line It's indiana's defensive
line number one and havoc. Rate they need to get
To Dante moore because if he has, time he's gonna
find his. Weapons and they are a big play team
In indiana has has given up some big plays this.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
Year so if you had to give me one or
two keys to watch when you sit down and watch
the game this, weekend what would they. Be AND i
know you've asked me before if you could put predictions
in your stories On inside The. HALL i told you
that's not sunce that we. Did but this is a
different this is a different. Medium i'm gonna ask you
for your prediction for the game as.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
Well, okay two keys.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
Won it's a kind of a tired trope In big ten,
football But indiana needs to win the. Trenches they need
to win up. Front they need to even at least
break even in the front to win this, game whether
it be offense or. Defense that's number. One AND i
think the next key to the game is it has
to be the play. Calling you got to open up your.

(28:01):
Playbook you can't be, robotic you can't be. Predictable and
If Mike shanahan can kind of emerge from the shadows
in and finally start calling plays like he does At
Memorial stadium At austin this, weekend then it could be
a better day For. Indiana that, Said I'M i can't

(28:26):
be An indiana homer. Here i'm gonna go Go oregon
thirty One indiana.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
Twenty is that?

Speaker 1 (28:36):
Enough if, that if it plays out with a score like,
that is that enough to Keep indiana in the top
what ten or eleven twelve nationally and still in obviously firm.
Contention but that that's gonna put a lot of pressure
on a win At Penn state if it comes to.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
That, right, YEAH i think that this is the game
that it's gonna be an a eleven point. Game That
oregon gets that late field goal to push it to
a two score, Game it's not going to Be indiana
scores to cut the deficit from nineteen to eleven with
a two point. Conversion If kurtzignetti did that in both

(29:14):
The Notre dame loss and The Ohio state, loss made
it look a little bit better on. Paper But indiana
needs to show the lights are on college Game DAY,
cbs everybody will be Watching indiana and see they're going
to be looking At.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
Indiana more than they Are. Oregon they know Who oregon.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
Is they should know Who indiana is already after The illinois,
game but they've already Discredited, illinois who has a big
of their own With.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
Ohio state this.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
Weekend but everybody's going to be looking critically At indiana
and they need to show out and keep IT i
hate to go back to the old tired trope of
keeping it close with a big, team but they do
need to keep it. Close and if they can keep
it close for long, enough you go in and win
the football.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
Game let's say they go out there and. Win what
does that do for their ranking and status? Nationally my.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
Guess we've talked about the HYPOTHETICALS uh in the past
couple of. Weeks we were like an SEC uh fan
base in my house back In.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
BLOOMINGTON.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
Uh we think that they'd be two or three in
the country because that is a hard place to win
against a really good football, team and it would prove
That indiana is a legit contender for the national. Championship
people are still doubting that a win would Put indiana
maybe as they as the favorite at that point to

(30:36):
win the national.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
Championship one way or, another it's gonna it's gonna turn.
OUT i Think i'm hoping for a competitive. GAME i
just want to watch a good football game On saturday,
afternoon and that's it's always. Been you know that that
three point thirty slot ON cbs for so many years
was THAT Sec marquee. Game nice to have the big

(30:58):
ten in that. Spot Now i'll be able to turn
it on for the national audience and amazing whatever. Happens
amazing That indiana's even in this position based on where
the program was. Historically Kurt, signety the coaching, staff the,
players the, Administration they've done a tremendous job getting the
program to this. Point for every remaining home game sold

(31:20):
Out Memorial, stadium which is another just sign that football
Has we've known since last, season but football has officially
arrived In. Bloomington everyone's excited looking forward to a fun
game On. Saturday, JOSH i know you're not going to
be out, there but you'll be providing coverage over on
On inside The. Hall thanks as always for joining us

(31:41):
on this week's episode Of podcasts on The.
