so crazy the Lord for you,Thank God for you. Now, mister
Refa. I want to um,I want I want to share something,

(11:18):
want to sound like a little envy, want to sound jealousy, Okay,
but I'm just gonna be real thatOkay at five years At five years old,
I was still trying to um pronounceEnglish words. Okay, I am
talking now now you're telling me,I'm looking at about you? What singing

(11:39):
at five years old? Now?How this this Jerry started? Oh?
Yes, um, Church of Godin Christ. You know they they are
known for singers and if they'll pullit out of you, even at a
young age. You have famous singerscoming from church and Gadam Crisis, Kim

(12:01):
Burrell, the Clark's Sisters, Stisticaland Lessen the al Armstrong. So yes,
I couldn't sing much, but Isaid, yes, Jesus loves me.
Yeah. I might have been fouryears old. I think I was
younger in five Yeah, So whendid you realize that no, people might

(12:22):
have heard yes, but oh shefound you, she found you. But
when did you realize, like, nah, this, my boys a like
the regular post. There's something. There's a different annoint him. When did
you recognize the annoint him? Andthis wasn't just a talent, but it
was a gift. And when hedid to trying to recognize and step into

(12:43):
that, I think around age nineand ten and then my early teams.
You know what if it came thatway, came actually in a secular way,
and it was like a bully inthe neighborhood. And Denise Williams had
a single out silly and me andh and Many Rippleton and they always say,

(13:05):
yo, little girl, hit thesehigh notes. And I would hit
them high notes and um. Andthen I went to Christian school and then
they would have us singing in anoperatic tone, and again you would have
to hit unusual high notes. AndI don't see it all the time that
way now as an adult, Ido it when I when I led by

(13:28):
the Holy Spirit. But yes,it was a booty. She was like,
get that note. I would hitthat note so they they could leave
me them long. So you didyou? Did you ever bank her?
Did you ever meet her later onin life? But bank her? Oh?
Yes, everyone knows her. Shewas. She was, She knew

(13:50):
all the great singers. She wouldfollow like singers like Tina Marie Phoebe and
then but Many Rippleton and Denise Williamsfrom the Settles standpoint with my favorite.
Then from a Christian standpoint, Ilove the suit. The arm strong ain't
in line. Well, okay, now you said you realize that your age

(14:13):
when you realize that you had aguest that something was different about your boys
and what God is doing with you. Now, when did you step into
the the other part of this,Because there's a part we can know how
to sing, but then there's anotherpart, another level, where you use
that gift ron the Norton to minister. At what age when you really ministering

(14:37):
your the word of God, thepurpose of God to song, did you
realize that that, Okay, I'musing just a ministry now. It's not
just entertainment and it's not just feelgood, but it's a ministry that I
had. I think it was inmy mid early twenties when I moved from
Philadelphia down to Atlanta, and I'verealized then that God was setting me up

(15:01):
because, like I said, inChristian school, I was being trained,
but I just thought it was justsomething we did in Christian school. But
I didn't particularly like gospel music otherthan Vanessa Belle Armstrong Carmen in Linda Adams.
So it was about the early twentiesand when I went down there,
I said, you know what thisis more than that God is really calling

(15:24):
me nations with this voice. Yeah. Yeah, But that's when the whole
page came together that you had toget. You recognize that you have the
anoint him, and now you recognizeor know that God wants me to use
this two minutes certain piece of hardand soul. That's that's that's amazing.

(15:45):
Thank you for that. And ahead, lady Kate. Yes, that is
so powerful. Now how old wereyou when you took your first overseas trip?
Oh? Wow, I had tobe about twenty six or twenty seven
years old. I'll say twenty six, yeah, twenty six, No,
twenty seven years old because I hadfinished my first album was called Finish the

(16:10):
Race, and yeah, I wentto England, London, England. Wow.
So how did it feel, youknow, getting your passport, packing,
you know, and then going toanother country and you know, performing
singing ministry in another country. Well, I tell you, at first it

(16:33):
was quite scary. I didn't knowwhat I would meet, you know,
no sense aliens or dreams, youknow. I just it was like going
to another planet. But once Igot there, I was like, oh
no, this is a big city, almost like New York, you know,
London. It's so huge and massive. But it was wonderful. I

(16:56):
have to say. I didn't reallycare for love. In the first day,
it didn't feel it didn't feel likethe way I thought it was gonna
feel. A looked weather. SoI took a train to the next day
to Paris and out there for twodays because it was only two hours away.
But when I got back to London, I started singing and that's when

(17:19):
things took off. Wow wow.You know they say you really haven't lived
until you leave the country to beable to see how other people lived.
And you know, were you embraced, you know, was a carpet,
red carpet rolled out? You knowwhat was that difference? And you have

(17:41):
been to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, UM, Nigeria. God,
you've been like so many of thesewonderful places. What is that place
that was very breathtaking for you asyou have traveled over the years. I
would have to say Nigeria. Iwould say Italy, but I've never sung

(18:07):
there. I just was there fora few days also, But breathtaking Nigeria,
West Africa? And what was thething that took your breath away?
I think it wasn't what we weretold, like black people lived on trees
and things like that. You know, it just told some crazy things and

(18:30):
right to see the homes, I'llbe honest with you. Homes and people
don't have mortgages on that look betterthan the home that I was living in
there in the States. I mean, they're built beautifully and people not in
debt, you know, and Ithink that's what blew me or what they
they They take their time and they'renot Prussian like we are here. But

(18:56):
and the levels of worship, thelevel of worship. If you are not
singing from the spirit, I don'tcare how well you can see, they
just pick it up. So theydon't play. It's like yeah, yeah,
yeah, now that's good and youdon't have the annoyancing, don't play

(19:17):
with God, gonna sit down.Yeah, I love that. I love
that. It was the intensity, the intensity of the of worship. And
yeah, prayer, yeah, say, the way they pray, the way
they talk is very intense anyway,so when they're in prayer, it's so

(19:41):
powerful, you know, And sothat's that's phenomenal. I love I love
that answer, because um, Ican't wait. I don't know one day
I'm gonna go praise the Lord Lord, but that go ahead, go on
that boat and go there, goahead, doing lady K. So what

(20:08):
was your now? Do you writeyour song or your songs written for you?
Um? I write my own songs, but usually there's always one on
each album that um it's written bysomeone, as for instance, on this
album how Great Thou Art, Idid a remake of that, and on

(20:30):
my other two albums I always didn'tget a lot of Adams remake. Let
us worship them. It's on mygood album. M hm wow. So
how does it? How does right? I'm sorry, I'm just taking over.
Go ahead, rever and red goahead, go ahead, go ahead.
I'm just sitting at them. I'mtrying to give me a McDonald's burg

(20:52):
or something at each and you're justbarging all the questions. But ahead,
go ahead. So I had oneof them yesterday. It would not go.
It would not leave me until Iad ahead of McDonald's burger and I
settled it yesterday. Yes this Sunday. You know, I had a burger

(21:18):
today, but it wasn't with donald's. But your show was a good one,
oh man. But I was gonnaask you, when you are writing
songs, do they just when youare um in practice? Do they just
come do they come in the shower? You know, how does God give
you your songs, your music, your lyrics. Um, I could hear

(21:44):
what they call it beat an instrumental, and it just comes to me.
I really didn't perfectly try to writea song. The hoo me just comes.
Or if I hear a great message, the word that comes sometimes from
that you know who ye come, and then I start writing, like the

(22:06):
verses and stuff. But that hook, Damn, it's like the song shoot
me, I don't chance the song. See now. I love the fact
that you said that, because it'slike God is like, Okay, I'm
gonna give you this part. Hereit comes, and this is what you're
gonna see. So I love that. I love that. Okay, Rever
Red, I'm gonna let you go. Amen. Well, before I ask

(22:29):
my question, I gotta go backto your transition from Philadelphia to to London
a real quick. Okay, letme get to my question. What part
of Philadelphia were you rap? Wereyou in the hood and all that?
Um? Okay, so let melet me say. Um. I was
born in the good North Philadelphia, but I was raised in South Jersey.

(22:53):
But it's just maybe thirty minutes outsideof Philly, so it's still find silly.
Yeah, but I'm back in thecity now. Yeah, because you
know, the reason was asking that'sa that's a tough transition to come from
the hood and try to go tothe boogie in London. You know what,

(23:14):
every but the top of the morningto you to tell you. You
know. So I was like, would that transition had to be kind of
difficult? Like would you say, well, well, well, well,
when I moved from Philly, Imoved down to Atlanta. So Atlanta was
that Bible Belt and it wasn't asrough as Philadelphia. But um, so
it was like this shilly South JerseyPhilly, Atlanta, Atlanta, London.

(23:40):
Atlanta to London was not as bad. Um, Okay, I got you.
Okay, that's that's because I camefrom Jamaica and from Jamaica to Texas,
and I have that Jamaican accent andthe Texas accent, and you know
it's like, okay, what kindof accent do you have? You?
But you know what speaking but doyou know what? Rever go ahead,

(24:04):
I don't I don't mean to cutyou. Guess what when you go to
when you go to London, Ah, you see Jamaicans and Nigeria through that
name. So yeah, the bestor soul food I had was from Jamaicans.
I dont know so many Jamaicans inLondon and they can throw down,

(24:25):
I mean and then fire for theLord. So were you no African Americans
there? Everyone is from Africa orJamaica. Okay, um um, add
one more Jamakan to your list.Okay, because I was born in Jamaica.
Yeah, but anyway, Um,I wouldn't go back to your songs.
The inspiration for your songs? Yousaid the scriptures that like Micah for

(24:49):
one and two. Now did youdid you hear someone preach a firm and
using that scripture and the song came? Or were you just reading the Bible
of studying the Bible and just it'syou, Because that's how I do my
sermon. I just read. I'mlike reading a book or reading the Gospel,
and as i read, I'm like, whoa, let me go back

(25:10):
and read that again. Okay, let me prepare this lesson, you know,
And that's how I preached from me. So how did that did Michael
four one and two inspire you?And also saw him one twenty one,
one and two? How did thatinspire you with it from a preacher,
from hearing a sermon or was itjust some I was reading a word and
studying one night and God gave itto them. Yeah, the spirit of

(25:33):
revelation. You know, you couldread something over and over from one day,
just that one moment your as becomeyou get that aha moment, and
I call it this spirit of revelationand understanding. And mountain, the world
mountain came out. Really paid attentionto the word mountain. I've been saved

(25:57):
a long time already. It didn'tmean nothing to me. I was too
busy focusing, like on the bloodthat on the cross, the anointing,
faver birds like that, right. And then the pandemic hit and I said,
door, we're so focused on thedarkness of this plague. We gotta

(26:22):
keep our eyes. And then thatjust came out. You know, Lord,
I'm lifting you up above our mountainsand a ballace. And then something
said google it on the Bible andshowing up knock up chapter four. So
it was already in the world ofGod and that was just a confirmation.
Um, yeah, it was alreadythere. It was already there. The

(26:47):
word mountain is very powerful. Inthe Bible, but I've never really noticed
it. Okay, Okay, Ilove you know you go ahead, Reverend.
Yeah, sometimes you know, wewe we we look at But what
you just said right there, it'sthe same way when I'm prepared if after

(27:08):
preach Sunday or against church, Iread it and I read it and I
don't read it before. Sometimes Idon't preach it before and you read it
and it's like, oh okay,it's like the first time. I just
read it and the revelation would cometo you. And so the safe thing
works for preaching and singing. Theminister in the song also, now do

(27:30):
you minister the word? Also doyou preach or teach? Yeah, it's
strange. I probably have more messagessitting away than I do song and I
just get the revelation and I likethe title down. But I only preach
when people ask me to preach. But it's it's the same kind of system.
I think. Really, he's ason, Reverend, He's a son,

(27:56):
and they just put the music.Yeah, but but what okay,
okay, lady, kay, Igotta, I gotta, I gotta letter.
You don't know me yet, Jerry, Jerry knows what's coming. I
gotta let you know this now. It's the same system. Right but but
but, Sharifa, I just wantto tell you right now you're cheating.

(28:22):
Are you supposed to say? Why? Reverend? Yeah? Why because I
can look at it. I canlook at a scripture and I can see
it and I can preach it.See, I can't sing, so you
so you can sing? See youcan sing and preach free. That ain't

(28:45):
anything. I gotta go back andGod about Dad, about God? Why
can you get your boster sing? You? But you know? But system?
Yeah, So that's my that's mymy bad that I have with myself,
Shariffa. I can't. I can'tsing. The only the only no
fumbly hit, the only no fumbleto hitter. That you give me a
sledge hammer I can beat up.But other than that, I ain't nothing

(29:10):
coming out of me but some painif I try to sing. You know
what, though, But let metell you something, and I'm not trying
to flatter you. Man. Whenpeople who can sing after they hear your
message, they sing better. Whenthe word of God and there's an anointance
anybody around you, they're gonna pickup in the realm of the spirit.

(29:36):
Some vives and some viperations. Youunderstand what I mean. So don't think
you're being counted out. You're justthrowing a different um a tone. But
it's all it's all sound faith comingby hearing and hearing about the word of
God. Yea man, thank youfor that encouragement. Thank you for lady

(29:57):
carry don't say not if I'm runningaround it. How can leave me a
little right in the shower right?Thank you man. I love that explanation
right there. If you have tohave nobody tonight, you have helped me.
Thank you so much. Now,missif just going to let you know

(30:18):
before you leave tonight, we're goingto give you an opportunity to share your
website or social media um all theinformation that how to get your music.
We would love you to share thatwith our listening audience. We will give
that opportunity before you leave on tonight. Okay, so be prepared for that
little bit later. Okay, ladycan't go ahead. So I want to

(30:41):
know you know, there's always thatHow did you get saved the turning point
in your life? How did Iget to a turning point in my life?
How did you give yourself to theLord. How did you surrender?
You like to cry again? Itstarted that move from Philly to Atlanta.

(31:07):
It um. Sometimes God has tomove you musically with a different location,
maybe to separate you. Uh,there's a there's a greatness in separation.
I noticed now being older. WhenI was younger, I wanted to be
accepted, but moving away and justbeing under some powerful words. I did

(31:30):
not want to give myself to thedoing one hundred percent until I moved down
to Atlanta because I didn't know howto meaning, Okay, I'll go to
church. Um. Now you gottaget delivered from anything. You know,
you're messing around or you're just goingto clubs. You know. I was

(31:55):
never into drugs anything like that, but you have to it's a process.
And then the music I had tosay, Okay, I gotta give you
one hundred percent. I can't belike seventy five percent in in, twenty
five percent out, one foot in, one out. So it was a
process. But I was in theBible belt and everywhere you look it's the

(32:19):
Church, God, the Jesus, the Bible. It's not like that as
much as the least as it isdown south. So um, It was
the influence of my godmother, mygodmother who I went to stay with.
She was the one who introduced meto Jesus as a young girl. She
had a big influence. I wantto give a shout out to her,

(32:40):
Anna Sanders. Yeah, she walkedthe walk before you. Yes she did.
And she was the one who broughtme to the church to see that.
Yes, Jesus loves me at fiveyears old. Ammen for that.
That is a blessing, you know. Um. It's good to have great

(33:06):
influence, you know, in youngpeople's lives and for them to you know,
um, make a difference, youknow, experience a difference. So
I love that you know you shoutit out to her and that you know
that she was the one, youknow. Um, So praise God for

(33:27):
that. That's beautiful. That isbeautiful. Go ahead, everyone now,
UM we're gonna get to your umdown here at the bottom. You got
something that caught my attention and Iwould get it at a minute. UM,
I want to ask you about temptationnow. You know, UM,
a lot of artists that we haveon our show, UM, the most

(33:51):
of them, I won't say allof them, said the fact that you
have this gifts. You have thisvoice that's just holl When people don't have
that voice, that that's what makesyou and the orlanda Adam, the Whitney
Houston or Carmon makes you guys different. Was there ever temptation to like ghost

(34:14):
secular or like wow, you know, Whitney Houston started in the church,
but look at the money she madeand look where she went with her voice.
Was there ever that battle that wentthrough your hearts, your spirit or
your mind that man, I couldprobably go secular and make a lot more
money than being in the church.Yeah. I mean, you know,

(34:37):
I forgot to mention I used tobe a rapper as a teenager, so
that temptatial is really there. Yeah. So I used to battle boys on
the corner, so between singing andrapping and all that. But once,
once I found out that about contemporarygospel music, I said, I can

(34:57):
do this for the Lord. Ican give it. I can I can
think I can do all this forhim. And my first albums I always
put one rap song or each albumexcept for them for but if someone really
beat me up in the corner, they will find out if I have the

(35:22):
lad ladic, we will get it. We can get a powerlistic exclusive right
now. Okay, okay, Idon't know if you never put it out
there. I don't I don't knowif you ever said it. I wonder
if they had been printed. Butin your mind, what was your rap
name? Because I know he wasn'tthe Sharifa. That had to be something,

(35:42):
you know, like Queen Latifa. You know, no it was.
It was MC Sharifa, then Sharifauh and then Sharifa just you know,
when the gospel over than Europe. And that's why I make it a point

(36:02):
because wait, man, I'm gonnamake everybody laugh now, I'm probably dona
make anybody laugh for you. Sure, woman, Shariffa the Stallion or nothing
like that. What you these toughnames and all that, But you see

(36:23):
Shariffa that that is that is goodto know. That is good to my
own funny now it's promical to menow, but that that is something to
know. That is you know,so you went to that journey. That's
that's good. Well, but theanswer good point. I think all I
think all gospels are to sometimes thinkthat or you can go so, but

(36:45):
God has not really called me.Some of my music has already crossed though
interceptulor you know, uh okay,so yeah, but sometimes when you and
church with church, people are likeif they don't appreciate you, the world
see the devil. They know howto pick people out of church, out
of the gospel, and ye andand and if they come over this you

(37:10):
know how to treat you, butthey don't take you the cart. Yes,
and sometimes the cost to so sonsthe devil is too high. Thank
you, Thank you for saying that. Thank you so much. Thank you.
I pray all listen. Got toget your blood. Yeah, yeah,
that that is that is powerful rightnow. Not speaking of um being

(37:34):
an influence. I love the lastpart of your m your bio when you
said you work for the youth, you know, because that's if you ask
my wife, that's my heart rightthere. You know. I run the
Mighty Kings basketball organization and with youngmen and picking them up and take them,
so I ask my wife. Sometimesthe whole summer there is ten kids

(37:57):
at our house, you know, every weekend, you know, to keep
them out of trouble. They keepthem out of where they are, you
know, and they see a godlyman with a with a godly wife for
manly affecting the love their wife orwife love and the other. And I
just love to be a living examplefor you because they don't see that nowadays.
They listening to these rap songs andyou're supposed to cuss, lave shoes,

(38:22):
kid, call women odi and allthat. And you know sometimes so
let me so, I want toask you this question. What is the
most challenging part when it comes throughworking with youth, young man a young
lady. What is the most challengingpart of that to you? When they
think they know what they know whenthey don't, Yes, man, and

(38:45):
they don't and not having foresight theconsequences to the action. What is it
gonna be like seeing five down theline? And I hate to say the
last thing, God forgive me.It's sometimes the parents little inscipline, wellscips.
Sometimes it's equivalent to he's not lovingit. It's it's it's you're thinking

(39:08):
they they think they're helping the child, but in the endian not, You've
over spoiled or over softing. Andthen so when someone in the world tells
them no, they can't take it, they will not be because no one
told them no. Right wow,Okay, okay, real talk. That's

(39:31):
that's nice nuggets on tonight. That'sthat's that's really right there. Now tell
us about this right here the eightI was interested in this. It's you.
Um. You produce a TV gospelprogram for the youth on Obe TV
called Gospel World and Good News Vibe. Tell us about that show either primarily

(39:54):
UM directed at youth or how gota youth program and what are the ages?
Yes, that was a while agoand sold that probably reached people between
the ages of fifteen to about thirtyfive or forty. UM. That was

(40:15):
UM. I shot a segment andin Scandinavia, over in Denmark, the
country Denmark and in London. UMand UM. It was really good,
you know, to just say, look, I'm not going to sing on
my own show, even though I'ma gospel singer. I'm gonna showcase people

(40:37):
who have talent but just don't havean age, they don't have an outlet.
They just want to express themselves.Right. You give them that opportunity
and people will show up. Yeah, they will. They show up.
And it wasn't the privilege to justcomments say look, man, you're not
famous, none of us are. What We're gonna use our gift and we

(41:01):
on TV. Amen. Amen,Now do you want to do? You?
Do you want to do? Youwant to get back into that?
Or your schedule too busy? Youhave too much going on like the TV
program. Yeah, it would dependon the city. I don't know about

(41:21):
Philadelphia. Um, but I thinkif God wills it's it's still a good
thing to do, you know.Rest, I'm glad that you mentioned again.
You you're saying your house and children. It's like gold. It's like
God hasn't trusted you with sold Itmay not be music, but those children

(41:42):
have god giving talents and he putin that wound. And that's all we
trying to do is get an outletwhere they can express themselves. It could
be basketball, it could be football, it could be wrapping. But the
I think we have now got likewhen I was coming up instance out there.

(42:06):
Yeah that's true. That that isthat is so true. Okay,
all right, maybe UM wait aminute and mc sharisa, here's what I
need you to do. I needyou to draw. I need you to

You know where, y'all. I'mI'm gonna tell y'all something I used
to keep when I would go onthem battle Now, y'all that made me

(44:58):
repent all in the public door. They would think I was freestyle and I
would have them rep memoride, memo, ride and people would walk away.
She's the grave and the grave, not knowing that I woke that rap the
night before. Oh my door,my wrapping. I don't even know the
