(00:55):
Artists of the Year. What Mike, Mike, how surprised were you when
that when your name came up.I was so surprised because that category was
filled with some talented, guilty people. It's like, wow, it was

(01:17):
scary and the good way like ayou know, like at a like at
a theme part. It's crazy. You've been out here, I know,
uh, coming to Praise Factor andparticipating with us for some years now.
I don't know how many years, but I know that you've been here for
a few years. Right. It'smy second year coming and I was blown

(01:41):
away the first time, and thistime I was. This year was phenomenal.
Have you have you seen the show? I've seen it wasn't it beautiful?
It was great. I had acouple of family came to my house
on paper party. It was sothrown man, you know, everybody was

(02:01):
probably and I got my kids.I got a six year old now,
y'all they loved it. They're like, wow, like, but I enjoyed
every everything. Yeah, the wholeshow was phenomena. Yeah. I bet
your family was excited to see youperform as well. It was. It
was really excited, like, son, you did good, Dad, you
did great. And I felt goodthat I felt the power, the present

(02:24):
and the people they were so great. I say, you know, I
depend on God, even them onthe stage. But I'm like, I
don't know if they eged me on. I really don't good. It was
leave for real, Oh my god, it was. This was the best
show ever and the look of itwas just beautiful, beautiful. So glad

(02:47):
you know that you participated in there. Apart of praise factor, talk about
your career, when did you start? I don't know if you sing,
I know you rap, but whendid you during your performance career. I
actually started. I always been uhyou know, I'm a p K.
You know what I'm saying. Churchkid too, you yeah, and uh,

(03:09):
I was boring when I was goingto church until I seen, you
know, somebody started playing drums atthe age of I'm gonna say seven,
So I was one of the boys. I always watched the drum. I
want to play. I learned howto play, you know, just a
gift. Uh. I just goton started playing for a while and I'm
beginning to uh you know play.I played in the band time too for

(03:29):
the drums, and I started playinga keyboard at the age probably like a
fourteen. But uh, but Ialways singing, like I sung in church
or solo in church and different thingslike that. I stopped singing. It
came back and uh and I fellin love with hip hop two as well.
Uh started rapping don't do things atschool at the lunch tab, I
was one of the ones being youknow that, and I like, like

(03:52):
me, I'm a fan of I'ma huge fan of music from quartet,
H R and B. You knowship hop, you know. But I
started singing with my brothers. Theysung a quantet group they way older than
me, you know, saying mydad, I teach them because they way
oldered me. They thinking they mydad my brother. Anyway, they sung
quartet group group, and I sungwith them a little bit too, you

(04:13):
know. And then and then Istopped singing with them, and I did
the song with one of my sistersas well. She sing We used to
go about like seventeen seven. Andthen I started, uh, visually,
I was doing a lot. Iwrite a lot. I all has been
writing songs, but I started takinga series of you know, probably about
sixty seven years ago, different thingslike that on my own, on my

(04:33):
just as a solo artist. Andthat's why I wrote a song called Guard's
Champion. I don't know if you'acan see the shirt good Guard's Champion,
you know. And that's what Ilive about, you know, like guards
Champa. We we've been through alot of things our life. But God,
it's the reason why he died forour sings. You know, it
rolls up with our power and I'msaying, okay with the victory. So

(04:56):
that's why I think we all weGod's champions. The champion is something amazing.
So but that's so that's why Ireally began to start focusing on my
career taking more serious and it startedmeaning people like in the gin of Milton
Wireless, doctor Derek Gates and stufflike that. I'm fast forward and different
things. And it became a wholenother like a ball gang. God just

(05:16):
start opening up the windows. Uh. Got introduced to the praise factors and
I, you know, I wantsome other world, even the war overseas,
different things like that. But peoplestarted listening to my music and they
started really feeling. I say,I'm gonna start this. Whatever God gave
me, tell the truth. IfI'm gonna read the Bible instead of the
Bible, try to put it inmy music. Uh, my wife everything.

(05:39):
A lot of things I've been throughin life. You know, I
ain't always being saved. So I'vebeen to church, but I used to.
I used to be. I knowhow it is even in the streets.
So I had to write about thattoo. So just staying and when
somebody say staying on lane, it'snothing to me, it's not nothing to
like, hold you down as tostay in my lane. Don't try to
be nobody else. Why am Igo up? Brought me to brought me

(06:03):
to bring it out, you knowwhat I mean? So, so how
did you figure out what your stylecould be? You know, I hear
so many artists say, oh Ilove that person. I wanted to be
like them and I wanted to belike them. But but you have to
figure out where God has brought youas an artist. So how did you
figure out that this is the stylethat God wants me to do? Put

(06:29):
it in at work? I hadto really put it in some craft,
uh, because it being places thatI've been to. Uh, I've been
in a secular stages, you know, even doing my type of music,
like even you said, I ain'tknow you talking about t Star missing God
as a rappit, but it beingplaces that I've been, I didn't get
no standing ovations. I didn't.I didne got silent, and I said,
let me switch it up. BecauseI'm from age time, It's a

(06:49):
lot of talent out here, soyou got to really step it up regardless.
So so I began to just Okay, focus on me, work on
my craft, you know, realquick. Like Michael Jordler. They great
because they always work on their craft. They take the they take that gym
seriously. You got a lot ofNBA players that are good, but it
got some great ones. Those ones, so I begin to and I still

(07:10):
do. Right now, I justwork on my craft, but mostly every
day I'm gonna do it. Andthen God gave another style. Okay,
I can miss this with my praiseand worship. I don't got a shout
out to a lot of artists, but I could get aspired by them,
but they got that already. Sohow could I make Mike be very How
can I build my relationship with Godand let that my testimony manifest in my

(07:32):
life? How could I make thatbetter when doing that being myself? Because
one point I thought I was toobugs to bugs for the church, and
I thought I was too too nicefor the streets. So I just put
that together and just let God andguide me and put it at work,
and the things started getting better startedto take off every since. How is

(07:53):
your family adjusting to your it's youknow, I know you're not up up
at the top yet, but youare having some some fame here. How
is your family adjusting? And howdo you handle not mixing the two but
making sure that you give enough timeto your family Because you have boys,
right right? Boys? And mywife is she keeps me, keep me

(08:18):
maintaining y'all know how y'all will dosome time, try to go for it
and uh and my boys they keepme in courage, like well they play
the game and different things and thestuff that they do. It keeps my
mind fresh. And they be singingmy songs before come out. They know
it worked. Uh, but Irealized that's your first ministry, you know,
your wife and kids to us that'sright, you know. And they
understand what daddy got to go outof town and stuff. They understand what

(08:41):
this is. And my brother,it's crazy be thinking everythinking. I know,
people like the blood James me,you got a lesson. You see.
It's a beautiful as I broke becausetime and I look at my kids
and stuff as how to work, like, don't don't fascinate because time is
going to be flying. Yeah,So so I look at all that and

(09:05):
the whole just just just put inthat work and make sure I don't just
be a great artist or a minister, a great husband. You know,
it comes with you know. Ihad to. I had to. I
had to learn how to do thatquote that and be an artist, be
a great dad as well. Uh, because I not learn. I am.
I believe I'm a great dad. They will tell you that. Make
sure I'm at the basketball game andI'll make sure their studies correctly. That's

(09:28):
right, Dad. It could workhard. You gotta work hard to it.
When you will begin to work hard, people people have a problem sometimes
to say work hard. You learnthe work hard. You'll learn how to
work easier than it turns hard becauseyou already the hard things that you had
to do. But it's beautiful.I love it, and they love it.
Your family is your first ministry.Absolutely absolutely. I'm always calling and

(09:50):
like, okay, Dad, onyou going. I'm checking on them,
talking to him facetiming. But it'sbeautiful and I think God for my family.
We pray together till we do thingslike that. So you know,
they parted the ministry with me.You know, does your mom and dad,
the ministers, the pastors, dothey like the kind of music that
you present? Well, actually theylove it. My daddy he had a

(10:13):
problem with rap at first too aswell. But my dad he actually passed
in two thousand. My daddy wenthome to Glory and I did a lot
of really things. I was restrictedmy mom and my sister. My mom
passed in two thousand and eight andI had a sister passed three days later.
I have it's a testimony that thedevil trying to give me out of

(10:37):
almost had me believing that God,it's not real. To answer that question
of my mom, she was reallyproud. And my daddy, like my
mama seemed like she's on my biggestfan because I was doing music and stuff
behind the scenes and coming out withsome stuff at that time. It's been
along progress, but going to greenshoting that blessing where the right need to
be, you know what I mean, he's sleep shotting it. But she

(11:00):
was very proud, you know. When I rally, like she brop her
head. But she loved it.And my brothers got it's seventeen of us.
Wow, would you say seventeen right? I'm the youngest boy out of
seven, you know, and uhyou know, you know, and I
got one sister younger than me.We all don't say each other like the
braided boys. They older than me. I was in the house while they
were gone, and I teach youthem. I say, they're way,

(11:22):
way, way older than me.But they you know, some people say
how family don't support my family support. Uh they might not be here to
show, but I get a lotof prowds and stuff like that, you
know, you know, and Isay that, you know, it's a
blessing to they support my music. And I don't talk about stuff if I'm
at a family union. We wentto a family union. It was like
we had a rockets game for mycousin. It was a whole lot of

(11:43):
people that to as with her.But everybody support my music, of family
and close friends. So I'm gratefulfor that. I'm grateful. That's good.
That's the one that don't. Idon't have a problem with that,
but if somebody did, I'm tryingto tell ll ers, don't worry about
it. You gotta be steeping oneor two the one that don't. That's
right, don't focus on the negative. Focus on what you got. You

(12:05):
know, I want to see ifif you don't focus on it right right?
Right? So are you working onnew music? You got a new
project coming out? Tell us aboutwhat's happening in your music career. And
I was so blessing. It wasso great to be the praise the fact
that I love that experience. Uh, the song that I performed out of
the intro was in Your Presence asong you know the video different things for

(12:28):
that. And then the song thatI seen Colled wish is the Blessings coming
out in the next year early nextyear, and uh shout out to doctor
Derek Gas and my team esther calledthat barely olivert just they sing Marcus Jackson
the Butleguards show. They say, also singing on my projects. They when

(12:48):
I write songs, the praise andworship songs, they're the ones that are
singing that song. So shout outto them my team from the music and
stuff. Anyway, So we're comingon tour next year as well too.
It's one that you y'all heard wascalled a blesser. Uh. That song
is coming out next year as welltoo. So we talk about the tour
where you're going. Have you decidedwhat that looks like? This is?

(13:11):
I know we have one uh inBoston. Uh and uh it's the one
that it's in San Antonio, buta little for the San Antonio I don't
excuse me, God know the nameof it. Uh. We some stuff
like that. Uh l A,we're having something in l A. And
Gard's blessing going some Conroe, Conroll, Texas, another one in Houston,
Texas. Uh, and I'm excitedabout it, you know, been coming

(13:35):
up right now hope for the CityCar Show. It's coming November eleven.
It's a car show. Last timewe did it. It's my third year
doing in the row. Uh.It would be phenomenal. People from uh,
from all types of background. Yeah, to Hispanic Yeah yeah, yeah,

(13:56):
yeah, we got some Save it'ssomething unslaved, but it's from Christian
expected it's ah Tom So we doa big with the slabs and stuff,
going to see for motorcycles out there, some biopracles and it music to be
loud or they have food. Itwas. It's gonna be great November the
eleven. I'm looking forward to that. To us, well, nice,

(14:16):
nice, nice. I know thatatmosphere is so awesome, Like you said,
so many different people gonna be inthe house, and so you get
to to show, you know, give show your ministry, uh to those
people, like you said, saveand unsaved. So yeah, how many
songs are you gonna get to dothere? I'm doing a whole city.
I'm doing probably like well, I'mdoing twenty five minutes you know nice,

(14:41):
it's gonna be great. It's anoutside event, you know, so it's
it's gonna be crazy. Yeah, and your family gets to come and support
this, right, they came. They came last year with me, so
they had they had a great time. So my whole team, like a
lot of them came to us.Well, we had a venue, you
know, selling you know, merchandiseand different things like that. So I
get to meet a lot of people. Uh, it's great. I love

(15:05):
it. They be so supportive andshout out to Victory. I reached Houston.
That's what they have it at theshout out to a Conroll church and
Conroll a tip of faiths. We'redoing a concert over that soon in Houston,
Texas. Uh, which is mybrother pastor and that Bishop Mayiel Berry
doing a concert. Church's questioned God, how would you describe the Houston,

(15:26):
Texas gospel music scene? What whatis it like there? I know you
get a little taste when you cometo Atlanta, but what's it like in
Houston? Houston better be ready tocome. The talent of Houston. It
is. It's crazy, y'all know. Shout out to Lana Adams and there's
some old people that came from hesaid, great. Even on the secular

(15:46):
world, it's a lot of greatartists from Houston, Texas. Somebody says
it's something in the water Easton, but that helps build me. And I
love the fact that I'm from Houstonto Repersent, you know, you know
a little crazy. It's really fromHouston too as well. I think he
stayed on now. But we've gota lot of great telling as worn.
And uh, you gotta be ready. That's why sometimes when I thought I

(16:06):
was really good, they're gonna prepareyou, you know, right, you
know what I'm saying, Gonna getyou right right, So I don't have
no problem no more. But Ihad the problem with you know, I
said, now I got to goback and right. And I learned from
that. I think, go outfor the struggle because it, yeah,
it may be, it may bebetter. Man. Absolutely, you've got

(16:27):
to learn. Hey, if you'regonna be anything, you have to learn
how to take the critiques. Youknow, I have to learn how to
take the critiques. That is phenomenal. So new music on the way you're
touring. Maybe you'll come to Atlantanext year, who knows about that.
