Speaker 1 (00:00):
What you know, Ala Byers, We had a big day
in the case of the State of Utah versus Corey Richins.
I don't think the hearing has been posted online yet,
but I wanted to bring you the latest. It was
a status hearing day as well as the initial appearance
for Corey. That initial appearance today was for those twenty
six new charges filed back in June and those related

(00:21):
to mortgage fraud and other financial crimes. Attorneys Kathy Nester,
Wendy Lewis, and Alex Ramos have been assigned as their
attorneys for this new case in addition to representing her
in the case for the aggravated murder of her husband,
Eric Richins. But there is a little hitch. The assignment
is currently temporary because the defense team has not finalized

(00:43):
the contract with the county manager for Summit County, and
I posted earlier this week that Summit County is on
the hook for one million dollars for this case. Judge
Murrazik promised no substantial hearings until after the conclusion of
the murder case. Now, for that aggravated murder case, there
was a lot of planning today for the upcoming trial,

(01:04):
which is schedule for February. There were some discussions around
upcoming hearings in early January, and those will revolve around
the motions in lemony as well as the defense challenging
expert witnesses being offered by the state. Also deadlines for
jury instructions and just other motion work. Don't expect to
hear too much about the case from public filings. The

(01:26):
defense is filing most things under seal and Judge Murrazak
is okay with that given how close the trial is.
So if that entire hearing is posted online, I'll do
a more detailed breakdown. I also have a new filing
from today as well as some previous filings from the
past few weeks that I'm going to go over this weekend.

(01:47):
Hope you guys have a good arrest of your evening
and we will see soon.
