Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's you know, Alibyers. Welcome to another episode of Pretty
Lies and Alibis. I'm Jigi. Good to have you here.
It's Monday, October thirteenth. Big day for those of you
that have followed the Dan Markell case. At three Eastern,
we have Donna Adelson sentencing and I'll be running that
live on the YouTube channel, so come watch with the Alibiers.
I have a few brief updates today in the Corey

(00:23):
Richins case, some new filings there as well as Mark Sanchez,
so let's jump in. Just a reminder. In November of
last year, the judge ordered the prosecution to separate some
of those financial charges that Corey is charged with from
the murder case. Those severed charges were two second degree
felony mortgage fraud charges and two third degree felony forgery charges.

(00:46):
Back in June of this year, prosecutors just threw those
in with the twenty six new financial charges. I did
an episode on that. If you haven't heard it, I'll
link that in the description. So there have been amended
charges filed against Corey two counts of insurance fraud, which
is a second degree felony, as well as forgery which
is a third degree felony are now tied in with

(01:08):
the murder case. However, she is no longer facing drug
distribution charges. Also, Corey's attorneys have filed a motion to
get the Eric Richins Living Trust's financial activities. Back in
twenty twenty three, the Eric Richinds Living Trust sued Corey
for more than thirteen million dollars. They're also asking for
all revenues generated from the sales of that children's book

(01:30):
on grief that she wrote after Eric's death, and they
asked for an injunction barring future cells of that book.
Just a reminder, Corey did not know that Eric had
established the trust and gave control of that to his sister,
Katie Richins Benson. Corey's attorneys are now asking the court
to compel his sister, Katie, who represents that estate, to
comply with the subpoena that's been previously served. The motion

(01:54):
says her retained council objected and refused to comply with
the multiple requests contained within the subpoena. Attorneys for the
trust say Corey is not entitled to that information. Corey's
attorneys want bank statements and financial statements from the trust
and also details of who has been paid through the trust.
They're asking for copies of checks drawn out of your

(02:16):
personal or business checking accounts made payable to any individuals
connected in any way to the investigation and or prosecution
of Corey Darden Richens. The filing says both public testimony
at the preliminary hearing of this matter and Miss Richins
Benson's written objections to the subpoena confirmed that at least

(02:36):
two of the state's witnesses in this case have also
been paid employees of the trust. However, Miss Richards Benson
is refusing to produce any documents showing exactly how much
these two individuals have been paid, and whether there are
other witnesses in this case who have been paid by
the Trust or by Miss Richins Benson personally. Katie's attorneys

(02:57):
did confirm that payments were made to two p people,
but say they were former and current experts and that
their correspondence with Miss Benson was shielded by privilege. But
Corey's attorneys say their records are material to the defense
of this case and it goes to the credibility and
bias of state witnesses. Just an update, there has still
been no ruling on Corey's new request for bond after

(03:21):
the state's witness changed his story and said he sold
the housekeeper, Carmen Lauber oxy conton instead of Fentannel. And
just last week we read a filing where the defense
asked that council be appointed for witnesses in the case,
including the drug dealer who has now changed his story.
The judge has granted that motion and council has been
appointed to all five witnesses as the defense requested. Corey's

(03:44):
attorneys talked to two News investigates Wendy hallerin They said
that there is a false narrative being reported about Corey
and that they have an ethical duty as her attorneys
to correct them. Wendy Lewis, one of Corey's attorneys, said,
the bigger problem we found is the narrative that's going
out in the media that isn't accurate, is factually wrong.

(04:05):
Our position is that its Corey's council. We have an
obligation to make sure that what is out and what
the public is seeing, what the community is seeing is
factually accurate. The prosecution isn't necessarily saying things that are
factually inaccurate. But they aren't correcting what's out what the
narrative is either. It is just not being corrected. We'd

(04:27):
hoped it would be. But at this point, as we
get closer and closer and we know that we're going
to be seeing a jury of her peers who have
been watching this narrative and hearing this narrative, much of
which is factually inaccurate, and that needs to be corrected
because all we want is for Corey to have the
opportunity to get a fair trial by the community and

(04:47):
by a jury of her peers. We have real concerns
that's not going to happen because of the narrative that's
been floating around now for going on three years. As
of now, her trial is still set for February of
next year. If there are any rulings, I will let
you guys know. Moving on to Mark Sanchez. He was
released from the hospital yesterday in Indianapolis after being stabbed

(05:10):
in the upper right torso by sixty nine year old
truck driver Perry Toll last week. After he was released,
he was seen walking into the Marion County Community Justice
Campus to turn himself in, and he was formerly booked.
He is charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, a
Class A misdemeanor, anauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, a

(05:31):
Class B misdemeanor, public intoxication that endangers the life of
another as a Class BEAT misdemeanor, and battery resulting in
serious bodily injury and that is a Level five felony.
Sanchez is listed as the primary aggressor in the fight
where he was stabbed. He is allowed to lead the
state as the case works his way through the courts.

(05:52):
He did speak after he left the jail and told
reporters he was focused on his recovery and he thinked
hospital staff as well as first respond He got emotional
as he said the trauma surgeon saved his life. His victim,
mister Toll, has filed a civil suit against Mark Sanchez
and Fox. The lawsuit says he sustained severe permanent disfigurement,

(06:13):
loss of function, other physical injuries, emotional distress, and other damages.
The filing says that Fox Sports knew or should have
known about defendant Sanchez's unfitness as an employee, propensity for
drinking and or harmful conduct. His ex model Bobby t
who was also, the mother of Sanchez's eight year old son,

(06:34):
posted a statement on Instagram yesterday about the situation. It says,
I'm aware of the serious criminal charges currently facing my
son's father, Mark Sanchez. My foremost priority has always been
and remains our eight year old son, Daniel. I chose
to remain silent publicly to protect Daniel. Now that everything
is out in the open, my focus hasn't changed. I've

(06:56):
always been concerned for Daniel's safety and for what he
is exposed too. Sadly, none of this is surprising to me.
Like everyone else, I learned of the horrific event through
a news alert on my phone while sitting next to Daniel.
I still know only what is publicly available. My thoughts
and empathy are with the victim and everyone affected by

(07:16):
this devastating event. It has created a wide ripple effect,
touching many lives. I understand that we live in a
very public world, but my hope is that as my
son grows, he can be seen and understood. Apart from
this story, at the end of the day, I'm simply
a mama to a sweet young boy, doing my best
to protect his peace. Thank you for the compassion so

(07:37):
many have shown towards Daniel and Me. Just a little
quick update in the Celeste revs. Hernandez case. David transferred
ownership of his home in Cyprus, Texas to his mother
on September twenty third, which would have been about two
weeks after Celeste's body was found in his tesla. Also,
TMZ reported that cops were called Celeste home eleven times

(07:58):
in twenty twenty four, and three times on March nineteenth,
twenty twenty four, that is the same day she was
seen on surveillance walking down the road past the liquor store.
The calls were listed as a minor crime investigation and
one was four suspicious circumstances. Just a tragic story. It
seems like this girl was failed on about every level. Again.

(08:20):
You can join us around two forty five on the
YouTube channel to watch Donna Adelson sentencing, hoping to do
a recap episode later tonight on that. That is it
for now. Hope you guys have a good rest of
your afternoon and we will see soon.
