In the early hours of Oct 4, 2025 in downtown Indianapolis, former NFL QB and Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez got into a confrontation with Perry Tole, a 69-year-old truck driver collecting used cooking oil.

The dispute reportedly started over blocked access/parking near an alley. During the struggle, Tole pepper-sprayed Sanchez and then stabbed him multiple times, saying it was self-defense after Sanchez allegedly tried to get into his truck and attacked him. Sanchez fled and was later hospitalized with serious injuries.

Sanchez was arrested and initially booked on misdemeanors; prosecutors have since upgraded to felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury (a charge that can carry 1–6 years if convicted). Authorities say parts of the incident were captured on video.

Tole has filed a civil lawsuit seeking damages against Sanchez and Fox over alleged permanent disfigurement and other injuries.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
What to know alibiers. Welcome to another episode of Pretty
Lies and Alibis. I'm Gigi. It's Wednesday, October eighth. Hope
you guys are having a good day so far. I
wanted to go over the probable cause affid David for
Mark Sanchez today and I should be getting the full
civil suit filing by the victim in this case, and

(00:21):
as soon as I do, we'll go over that. Thirty
nine year old Mark Sanchez played ten seasons in the
NFL after being drafted fifth overall by the New York
Jets back in two thousand and nine. In twenty nineteen,
he joined Fox Sports as a college football analyst, and
in twenty twenty one he moved over to the NFL
as an analyst. So what happened with this stabbing? On

(00:44):
October fourth, twenty twenty five, at twelve thirty five am
I AM PD officers were dispatched to three h one
West Washington Street on a report of a person shot.
When officers arrived at the Locke Miller's Polo and Eatey
located at three oh one Washington Street, they came in
contact with the mail later identified as Mark Sanchez, with

(01:08):
several stab wounds to his upper right torso area. A
second person was located in the alley west of the
location near fifty South Senate Street. The second person, later
identified as PT, had a laceration to his left cheek.
He is sixty nine years old. Medics were called and
Sanchez and the victim identified as PT, were transported to

(01:31):
the hospital. An Aggravated assault detective was requested to be
paged through control by an officer on scene, and Detective
Joshua Stayton was paged at twelve fifty four am. Detective
Stateton spoke to Officer Jay Anderson and was advised where
the injured parties were going and coordinated with other aggravated

(01:53):
assault detectives for responses. Accordingly, Detective Edwards responded to Eskna
Hospital to check on mister Sanchez, while Detective Clayton responded
to Methodists to check on PT. Detective C. Edwards responded
to Eskenazi Hospital and attempted to get a statement from

(02:13):
mister Sanchez. Detective Edwards asked mister Sanchez what happened. All
he could remember was grabbing for a window. Mister Sanchez
said he did not know who did this to him
or where it happened. Detective Stateton arrived on scene at
one ten am and was advised at the two hotels
on either side of the alley where the incident occurred.

(02:35):
As surveillance video of the event. The two hotels located
on either side of the alley where the incident occurred,
or the Weston Hotel and the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. Detective
Stateton went to the Weston Hotel first to review the video,
but the video quality was poor. As Detective Stateton was

(02:56):
walking to the Marriott to review their video footage, a
mail sitting in a vehicle parked in the alley just
north of the incident location stated he needed to leave.
Detective Stateon spoke with the mail, who was identified as
B B. He stated he was at the location picking
up his kid when he saw a larger male wearing

(03:16):
a black shirt and another mal that was a truck
driver interacting with each other. BB at first thought they
were friends and didn't pay much attention to their interaction
as his vehicle was facing northbound and he was only
observing through the side mirror. BB then thought it was
odd because he thought the two men were using their
cell phones to record each other. Bib then said the

(03:40):
two men went to the other side of the truck.
Out of his view, he noticed the truck driver tumbled
over to the opposite side curb and the mail in
the black shirt standing over him. BIB thought they might
have wrestled or something. Then the mail in the black
shirt ran northbound in the alley and the truck driver
stayed with the truck. BB did not see anything further

(04:03):
and said he did not know what was happening, but
assumed it was kind of serious because police started to
show up. Detective Stateon then released BB from the scene.
Detective Stateton relayed this information about the two parties involved
possibly recording each other based on BB's statement, and Detective
Sergeant Gray then applied for and was granted a search

(04:25):
warrant to collect mister Sanchez's phone and close from the hospital.
The warrant was granted and Detective Edwards collected the items,
signed a chain of custody voucher, and transported them back
to the Aggravated Assault office, where Detective Stateton later took
custody and placed the items in the property room. Detective

(04:46):
Stateton then reviewed the video from the Indianapolis Marriott downtown.
He saw a mail believing to be Mark Sanchez, jogging
northbound in the alley from the direction of Maryland Street.
Mister Sanchez run towards a large box truck that is
backed into the loading docks at the Weston Hotel and
goes behind the truck and then reappears, still heading northbound.

(05:10):
Mister Sanchez then heads to West Washington Street and is
out of view for a little while. Mister Sanchez then
reappears heading southbound and approaches the delivery truck again and
goes behind it before reappearing and approaching the driver's door.
It should be noted at this time that PT is

(05:30):
an employee for a company that specializes in commercial cooking,
oil recycling and disposal. PT was backed into the loading
dock area at the Weston performing his assigned duties when
he was encountered by mister Sanchez. Mister Sanchez approached the
driver's door of the truck and opened the door and
began conversation with PT. Mister Sanchez and pts stand by

(05:54):
the driver's side door for a few minutes and then
PT walks over towards the security office doors of the Marriotte.
At this time, PT is out of view of the
camera and mister Sanchez is seen standing near the front
of the truck. Moments later, pet reappears and walks towards
the passenger side of the truck and mister Sanchez follows him.

(06:16):
Then PT is seen walking back around to the driver's
side and mister Sanchez is right behind him. The two
appear to have an interaction at the driver's side door,
and then PT walks back towards the front of the truck.
Mister Sanchez is following again and PT is seen walking
backwards away from mister Sanchez. PT and mister Sanchez are

(06:38):
now seen moving around in the front area in front
of the truck. Then PT darts towards the driver's side
door again. Mister Sanchez is seen running after PT, and
the video shows mister Sanchez grabbing and throwing PT towards
the wall of the weston. It appears that the two
men are now fighting between the large green dumpster and

(07:01):
the truck. The fight continues up against the dumpster, and
then as a vehicle is driving southbound in the alley,
the two men continue fighting and are now moving out
towards the middle of the alley. Mister Sanchez is seen
throwing PT to the ground on the west side of
the alley. Just as the car passes. PT stands up

(07:22):
from the ground and mister Sanchez is standing there for
a brief moment before turning and running northbound towards West
Washington Street. Detective Stateton took a statement from PT on
October fourth. On October fourth at the Aggravated Assault office
around eight pm, PT's statement closely matches the video Detective

(07:43):
Stateton watched from the Marriott. PT said mister Sanchez opened
the driver's side door and PT exited the truck. Mister
Sanchez and PT had a conversation where mister Sanchez told
PT that he could not be there at the loading
dock and that mister Sanchez had spoken to the manager
of the hotel. PT did not have his hearing aids

(08:05):
in because the truck is very loud when he is
exchanging the frying oil for the hotel, so he had
to lean in close to mister Sanchez to hear him.
When PT leaned in, he stated mister Sanchez smelled of
alcohol and his speech was slurred. PET was confused and
stated he needed to contact his manager to find out

(08:26):
what exactly was going on. PT described mister Sanchez, whom
he did not recognize, as well dressed and groomed, so
PT assumed he could be the manager of the hotel.
Mister Sanchez then climbed up into the cab of the
truck and leaned over the driver's seat and looked in
towards the middle area between the seats. PT told mister

(08:47):
Sanchez he was not allowed to be inside of the truck,
and mister Sanchez came down. Mister Sanchez kept repeating that
he had spoken to the manager and they did not
want PET to do that, meaning replace the friar oil.
Mister Sanchez then tried again to get into the truck
and PT stated again he could not let him in

(09:08):
the truck. PT said that he knew at this time
he had a problem. PT tried to get a cell
phone from the truck and mister Sanchez blocked him from
trying to call his manager. PT then walked around the
front of the truck and mister Sanchez followed him, but
stood near the front of the truck. PT is seen
walking westbound off camera to the opposite loading dock area

(09:31):
of the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. PT stated he knew that
entry point was the security office for the Marriotte, so
he was attempting to flag down one of the security
officers to help him with mister Sanchez. PT then walked
towards the passenger side of the truck, and mister Sanchez
walked with him. PT attempted to get into the passenger

(09:54):
side of the truck, but was blocked by mister Sanchez.
PT walked back around to the driver's side and and
again attempted to get his cell phone from inside the
cab of the truck, but mister Sanchez shoved PT back.
PET realized things had escalated and he was now in
physical danger, so he reached into his pocket, grabbed his

(10:17):
pepper spray and sprayed mister Sanchez in the face. PT
said the pepper spray appeared to have no effect on
mister Sanchez for a moment, but mister Sanchez wiped his
face and again advanced towards PT. PT thought this guy's
trying to kill me, so he pulled his knife and
when mister Sanchez came at him, PT went at mister

(10:39):
Sanchez and struck him two or three times with the knife.
PT said he found himself flying back into the dumpster
and falling onto the palletts on the ground. While he
was on the ground, Pet was not aware of what
mister Sanchez was physically doing to him, whether he was
punching him or otherwise striking him. While PT was on

(11:01):
the ground, he could only see the feet of mister
Sanchez coming at him, making PT realize that he was
in a life or death situation. Somehow PT made it
to his feet and when mister Sanchez came at PT,
he stabbed mister Sanchez the last time. The next thing
PT knew was mister Sanchez looked at him with a

(11:21):
look of shock. He slowly turned around, and mister Sanchez
took off northbound in the alley. Officer Mark Myers, an
evidence technician, processed the scene, taking photos and collecting evidence,
which was taken to the property room. A search warrant
was applied for the box truck by Detective Sergeant Gray

(11:42):
and granted under cause or the collection of the knife
that was located on the driver's seat. Mark Sanchez was
placed under arrest for felony battery, unlawful entry into a
motor vehicle, and public intoxication. Even with those charges, the
incident is still under investigation and they're waiting on toxicology
reports and more charges could be forthcoming now. If convicted,

(12:07):
felony battery can be up to six years in prison.
The victim's attorney told TMZ that he's released from the hospital,
recovering and hopeful that he will regain function his ability
to speak. Right now, he's having a real difficult time
at communicating because of the large gash on his face
that affected his jaw, tongue, and mouth. He's just at

(12:28):
home or resting, but we expect further medical treatment and
ongoing treatment well into the future. He added that his
client can speak right now, but it's just so slurred
and labored for him, just because of all of the
trauma to his mouth and cheek. He also said that
mister Tole will not be able to attend his son's
wedding this weekend as a result of what he's been through.

(12:50):
He said he expects further medical treatment and an ongoing
treatment for him well into the future. He added that
psychological injuries are also a concern. He's just thankful to
be alive. One thing about mister pt He had just
received his citizenship in September of this year. A former
teammate of Sanchez said the incident was completely out of

(13:13):
character for him. Now. He did have an initial hearing
schedule for Tuesday, but the judge granted emotion to waive
that hearing. It's been a rescheduled for November fifth at
one pm, and the last I heard as of yesterday,
he is still in the hospital. Mark's brother, Nick, said,
this has been a deeply distressing time for everyone involved.

(13:35):
Mark and our family are incredibly grateful for the concern, love,
and support we've received over the past few days. Mark
remains under medical care the serious injuries he sustained and
is focused on his recovery as the legal process continues.
So I am waiting on the filing for the civil

(13:57):
suit that has already been entered in the victim, and
once I get that, we'll do a quick little episode,
just a crazy case. You look at Mark Sanchez, he
is thirty nine years old versus sixty nine years old,
and all of this happened apparently because he didn't like
where the guy had backed into to get the waste,

(14:17):
which is his job. And what a way to screw
up your life. Probably because he was drunker than Cooter
Brown and made a really stupid decision to attack an
older male. I do have a new filing in the
Mickey Stein's case that partially is about the grand jury,
so I will do that tomorrow. It's very interesting. I

(14:38):
just want to take some time today to read through
and make some notes. Don't forget to hit subscribe if
you haven't already. The biggest thing you can do is
like this video. Every time my videos get toke, it
just pushes my content out to people who don't know
I'm here. And that is the best thing you can
do to help this channel, and I appreciate you so much.
That is it for today. I hope you guys have

(15:00):
a good rest of your afternoon and we will see soon.
