Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's you know, Alibyer's Welcome to another episode of Pretty
Lies and Alibis. I'm Gigi. It's Monday, December eighth. We
are on day six of the Brian Walsh trial and
this is the morning session recap. I'll do the afternoon
session later this evening. Let's jump right in. On the
stand is doctor Richard Atkinson. He's with the Office of
(00:20):
the Chief Medical Examiner. They bring in photos of the
rugs that were found in trash bags. The rug had
blood stains and it also had a quarter inch long
blood clot. The witness saved that in a jar for
possible future DNA analysis, and then they freeze the jar.
They move on to the largest piece of carpet found
in the bag. When the carpet was being unrolled, there
(00:44):
was blood as well as other clots. There were also
areas with a white, clumpy powdery substance, and some of
that was discolored from the fluid on it. I would
venture a guest, that's the baking soda that he bought.
He also found hairs on the carpet, including a clump
of hair, and he put those hairs in an evidence envelope.
(01:05):
They show a photo with a ruler and there's a
Gucci jewelry charm with no chain attached on cross. He
essentially is trying to get him to talk about when
someone dies unexpectedly. He says, you try to determine a
manner of death when you do an autopsy, and the
medical Examiner's office is responsible by law to investigate various
(01:26):
forms of death, including a requirement you investigate sudden death,
meaning when the deceased was in apparent good health. He
goes through examples of how sudden death could occur, like choking,
auto eerotic behavior, death by fear or fright. The witness said,
an unexpected death is rare, but there's many causes. It
(01:49):
could be from cardiac issues, pulmonary issues, positional asphyxia, neurological events,
or sudden death due to toxicology. There may not be
signs beforehand. An unexpected deaths occur more in the male
population than with females. The next witness Teresa Markesy. She
(02:11):
worked with Anna at Tishman Spire in DC. She worked
on hiring Anna and also she deals with employed benefits
and just generally a human resources position. She met Anna
when they interviewed her in November of twenty twenty one,
Anna applied for a general regional manager position in Boston,
(02:31):
but was hired for DC. However, she did work in
Boston for a month before transferring. DC had a job
that had been open for quite a while, and Anna's
experience in the hospitality industry made her the perfect fit.
Her base salary was two hundred and twenty thousand a year,
with a potential for bonuses. She also got life insurance
(02:52):
worth two times her annual salary, and Brian and their
three children were the listed beneficiaries. She was hired as
co head of the property management group and spent most
of her time at a building called The Crossing. This
is a residential apartment building, but she also had other buildings.
She managed at the Maza Galleria that was a development site.
(03:15):
It was formerly a mall and they planned to redevelop
that into apartments as well as some retail stores, and
Anna was involved in that. In twenty twenty two, the
company closed for New Year's even New Year's Day staff
returned back on January third, twenty twenty three. She said
Anna had no problems with her employment and she required
(03:36):
no physical accommodations. The witness last saw Anna December fifteenth,
twenty twenty two, for a women's event in the office.
She said Anna was acting normal. She learned Anna was
missing on January fourth by a coworker who came to
let her know that Brian had called the Crossing team
looking for Anna. The witness said she would reach out
(03:57):
to Brian, and the first time she called, a man
named Jeff Chad was with her. He was the head
of the DC office. She talked to Brian several times
that day, and the first call was around ten or
eleven in the morning. Brian told her he hadn't seen
Anna since the first and he wanted to see if
anyone had heard from her. He said, we've only gone
twenty four hours without seeing each other once and he
(04:20):
said Anna was annoyed with him for looking for her
too soon. She said on the call, Brian was polite,
calm and nice. He told the witness that Anna said
there was a building emergency she had to go back for,
but the witness says there were no emergencies on January first.
After the call ended, a coworker offered to go with
her to Anna's house. She said she wanted to make
(04:42):
sure Anna hadn't taken a fall, and she asked Brian
if Anna had any mental health issues and he said no.
When they walked up, there was an espresso box on
the steps that was wet. That led her to believe
Anna had not been there because it rained Monday and Tuesday,
but not on the Wednesday. She was a the house.
She called Brian back and told him about the box.
(05:05):
She did see a doorbell camera and asked if he
had access to it. He said no, that Anna was
the tech one in the family. She looked in the
window and the house looked immaculate. Brian did give her
the garage code, but there was no car in the garage.
On the way to Anna's, she called their global head
of security, Hugh Dunlevy. They had a conversation and then
(05:26):
they conferenced Brian in on a call with the three
of them. She told Brian Hugh was ex Secret Service
and would be a good resource. She said Brian was
crying and said he needed a moment, and then he
returned to the call. They asked Brian about Anna's car
and he told what kind she drove. He didn't know
the license plate number or if she had an easy pass.
(05:47):
They asked if he was on the deed or mortgage
in case they needed to call the police to be
let in. He wasn't sure if he was on the deed,
and he thought Anna was on the mortgage. She had
a conversation with mister dunleavy at Starbucks and then went
back to her house with a coworker. Close to one pm,
Brian called her and said he had called the police
and they were filing a report. He said he had
(06:09):
also called a couple of other people, and again his
demeanor was calm. Brian told her his mother wanted to
hire a private investigator. She had a fourth call with him.
She was asked to text mister Dunleavy's phone number to Brian,
and then they talked about hospitals and the private investigator
on cross did Anna take six days when she went
(06:30):
to visit her mom in Serbia? The witness doesn't know,
and she said she wasn't aware that Anna went to Dublin.
The defense asks about two cases of Legionnaire's disease at
an apartment building in DC that Anna managed. The witness
said the health department put up notices and Anna would
interact with this if it was an issue, but she
doesn't know Anna's role with this specifically. The defense talks
(06:53):
about a tenant's meeting with residents and asked if they
complained about Anna. The witness isn't aware of any complaints
about Anna, but she said there were quite a few
complaints by the tenants. The defense asked if the FBI
arrested two residents living at the crossings. The witness is
aware of that, and it was when Anna was assigned
to manage the crossings. She doesn't know if Anna was
(07:15):
there when it happened, but Anna did work on that.
The next witness Davis Gould. He previously testified last week.
He's a forensic scientist, and he corrects prior testimony he
gave the wrong crime lab. He took the items of
evidence they found in the trash too, and he tells
the one that he actually took them to. They also
(07:36):
bring in the black jacket that was found in the
trash and show the jury. Next up, Hugh Dunlevy, the
head of security. He worked with annam and he said
their workstations were about ten feet apart. He coordinated with
the DC police about checking inside Anna's home. The next
few witnesses brought in surveillance showing Brian making purchases after
(07:56):
Anna went missing. And first up was Patricia Patterson. She
works at the Walgreens in Cohasset. They bring in surveillance
of Brian making a purchase on January first at three
point thirty nine pm. They bring in the receipt showing
he purchased anti itch band aids and triple antibiotic ointment.
The next witness Joseph Caesars. He is a store manager
(08:18):
of Venin Liquors in Swampscott. Brian was a regular customer
there and they bring in surveillance of Brian pulling a
garbage bag out of his car and he disappears out
of the frame and they show another view of surveillance
where you can see Brian throwing the bag into the dumpster.
The store was not open on New Year's Day. The
next witness Cade Reid with Low's in Danvers. He also
(08:42):
brings in surveillance from the store in Weymouth. For the
Danvers store, he was in there January first at five
point forty two pm and they start the video in
the parking lot. It shows him in the store on
one aisle putting several things into his cart and also
checking out. He was at self checkout, so there's really
good video of this and I have that uploaded on
(09:03):
the YouTube channel. Now I'm going to upload all of
these surveillance videos. By the end of the day, Ryan
has a cart slap full of tools and cleaning supplies,
including the hacksaw, the hatchet, the mop, buckets, cleaner, and rags.
The total was four hundred and sixty three dollars. The
(09:24):
next video is from the Lows in Weymouth on January fourth.
He has one of his kids with him and he
is seen buying a trash can and other items, and
he sees himself in the self checkout monitor and fixes
his hair. The next witness Jamie Flint. They bring in
surveillance from CVS and Danver on January first, at six
(09:46):
twenty eight pm, he uses self checkout and bought five
bottles of hydrogen peroxide. So that's where we left off
for lunch. I'll update the afternoon session later on today,
but that's it for this episode. Hope you guys have
a good rest of your afternoon and we will see
you Seed
