Llegó un momento en mi programa de recuperación en que la tercera línea de la Oración de la Serenidad —“la sabiduría para reconocer la diferencia”— quedó impresa indeleblemente en mi mente. Desde aquel momento, tenía que enfrentarme con esta conciencia de que todas mis acciones, todas mis palabras y todos mis pensamientos estaban dentro o fuera de los principios del programa. Ya no podía ampararme en las racionalizaciones ni en la locura de mi enfermedad. La única línea de acción que tenía abierta, si iba a llegar a una vida feliz para mí mismo (y para mis seres queridos) era la de obligarme a mí mismo a hacer un esfuerzo para comprometerme y ser disciplinado y responsable.
