Speaker 1 (00:00):
We've had breakaways, we've had thrills, we've had spills, we've
had some surprises, and we've had some, shall we say, a.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Few more predictable outcomes.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
My name is Dave and this is the Ride and
Thrive Podcast with your look back at the last couple
of stages of the Tory France and also look forward
to what this weekend falls in store.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
The Accordion, by the way, was back by popular demand
from one of my listeners. But I'm going to kind
of leave it there, I think.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Okay, So I'm going to start off with stage six,
which happened on Thursday the tenth, and it was a breakaway.
It took a while to get going, but it was
Ben Healey and Quinn Simmons who actually kept it going
and got the actual The troops rallied and off they went.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
And it was some esteemed company in the breakaway.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Matthew vander Poul and Simon Yates and Eddie Dunbar dun
dumb Bar were there as well. It seemed like the
Paloton and Pagatcha in particular were happy to let the
breakaway go and he would he would seemingly hand out
the yellow jersey to Matthew vander Poult on loan so
to speak, because he knew he was going to get

(01:17):
it back in the coming weeks, in the coming days.
So so yeah, so the breakaway went away, and then
with about forty kilometers forty two kilometers to go, it
was Ben Heey who struck out from that on for
home and he made it stick.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
The elastic broke.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
And they couldn't live with him, and you know that
in the end they couldn't really organize themselves to chase
him down. So actually Ben Healey went on to win,
which was a fantastic win for e F Education, And
of course Matthew vander Poult was in there as well,
but it was who came in second. It was Quinn

(01:58):
Simmons from the Trek who came second. Then Michael Storer
came in third. The peloton did rally towards the end,
so they did close the gap a little bit, but
it's still meant that Matthew vander Pohl kept the yellow
jersey and with the green going to Jonathan Milan and
Polka Dot was Tim Willins and the white stage with

(02:20):
Remco evanopoul So a fairly standard breakaway day and it's
great to see some of these smaller teams.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
I say smaller teams compared to the big teams.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
The breakaway is really their chance to get their name
out there, for the rider to get a little bit
of glory, and for their sponsors as well, to keep
the sponsors happy to keep that money rolling in. So
it's great to see a different name on the podium.
So it's so well done to Ben Heally and he's
from Ireland incidentally, and he's a fantastic ride by him.

(02:51):
So that led us on to Stage seven. Stage seven
was from Saint Marlow to Murder, Britannia, and it was
one hundred and ninety seven kilometers. Now the Britannia is
like a I'm not saying a mountain, it's a hill.
And this is towards the end of the stage and
they were actually going around it twice and they did

(03:12):
it once and they went around again and did it again.
And it's not a massive hill, but there's some of
the slopes are averaging seven percent and some of them
are actually more than that, so significantly more than that.
So it was going to be enough to tempert out
the GC riders and that was the case. Really it

(03:34):
was all pretty much as as normal if you like.
And then as we came into the last couple of kilometers,
it was the big three.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
It was Poggy, it was jonas finger guard.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
And it was remco Evna Pole that were fighting it
out on those slopes and it was great to see
them slugging it out, trading blows.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Want to go, then the other had go, and yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
It was this is the predictable outcome. It was Poggy
in the end. He kicked with about two hundred meters
to go, they were still going up hill and he
had too much power.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Joni's finger guard actually did go with him.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
He stayed on his wheel. He couldn't get round him.
But pog did end up taking the win on stage
seven and it took took back his yellow jersey, so
he didn't loan it out for long and Jonasping a
guard came in second, and a big shout out to
Oscar on Lee. He's a British guy, he's a Scottish actually,
and he came in third and he's seventh overall on GC.

(04:39):
He rides for a team Picnic Post, so a really
good ride from him and keeping an eye on him.
I think it's his second tour. But he's doing all right.
He's quietly coming.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Through, so well done to to oscar on Lee so
for coming in third. There was there was.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
A crash though, quite a bad crash, and unfortunately it
was the guys who had gone in the breakaway for
the previous day, so Ben Heally and Eddie Dunbar were
involved in that and Almado, which is a UAE one
of Pog's domestiques. He was injured as well, but they
got back up and rode on. So yes, I'd never

(05:21):
like to see a crash, but but yeah, the luckily
they were they were all okay. Unfortunately for Jack Haig
he did end up actually leaving the race for barring victorious.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
They're quite a bad day barring Victorious.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
So jack a came down in that crash and he
couldn't carry on unfortunately. Other things of note, there was
an early breakaway and it would get out. Thomas was involved,
which was great to see him getting out and I've
just seen his podcast, you know, and he thought, oh, I.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Thought i'd have a girl, you know, that's my Welsh acid.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
I thought I'd have a go and but that was
doomed to failure, that the peloton were never going to
let that break get away. There was only five of them,
so they couldn't really work that effectively, and they got out.
I think the most they were out was a minute
and a half and the paleoton wouldn't let them go
any longer than a minute and a half away. So yeah,

(06:19):
but saying that, he g did say that it was
nice to get out of the peloton for the days.
It's quite stressful in the peloton these days, he said,
and it's nice to get out and just be in
the break, and you know, that was that was a
bit refreshing for him. So that was a little a
little side note. So that was good to see him
out there and doing his stuff, rolling back in the years,

(06:40):
so to speak.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Okay, so that.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Leaves us I think I mentioned with Pog in yellow,
and it also pogged up the green Jersey because funnily enough,
this was classed as a as a sprint stage even
though it was an uphill finished so there was quite
a few points on offer for the for the first
one across the lines, so that meant that Pog I
think it was fifty points. Pog ended up with the
green jersey as well. Tim Wellens has kept the polka

(07:04):
dot jersey because there's nothing really no in there of
that and the white it stays with Remco Evana Paul.
So we're leading in to Saturday, just looking at me
notes here Saturday the twelfth, which is San.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Me En La Grande to Laval. So this is a
nailed on sprinter's stage. It's flat.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
All the way, it's one hundred and seventy one kilometers.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
It's kind of like a transition stage if you like.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
So I know that Gerrik Thomas has said that the
peloton is quite stressful at the moment, but this is
kind of will be as probably as least stressful as
as it gets, probably be an interesting finish, slightly uphill,
but still one for the sprinters. So I'm backing who
am I backing? Tim Wellens? I think or Biiam gam

(08:00):
I maybe Tim Wellens or Biniam Gammy or no not
Tim Wellins, Jonathan Malan. I've written down Jonathan Malan or
goodmye to take to take the win. It's a technical
finish so they do do a bit of a U turn,
so hopefully we won't see any crashes, which Well I
say tomorrow, it's later on today because I'm recording this

(08:21):
on the Saturday.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
So that's it for now, guys.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
I'm gonna do another catch up on Sunday night to
talk about the weekend stages and yep, let me know
what you think of the podcast.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Guys. I do want your feedback be very gentle.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Like I say, this is an experiment for me, the
kind of new new format of doing this, so I'm
just learning the rope so to speak.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Okay, guys, buy for now.
