Speaker 2 (00:16):

Speaker 3 (00:17):

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Why why would have to said favors.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Unders, I have to go when I have to go,
I have to.
Speaker 1 (00:30):

Speaker 4 (00:33):
To take the bags.
Speaker 5 (00:36):
Yeah, and you know the way outside?
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Okay, years old, you can't.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
I can't wait? Can I go?
Speaker 6 (00:45):
Can't?
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Don't you see?
Speaker 2 (00:48):
So kind to help him get that's terrible.
Speaker 7 (00:55):
That okay, we do.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
So is.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
No? No?
Speaker 1 (01:13):
What value in you? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Take it off.
Speaker 8 (01:31):
You are listening to the ROBERTA.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Glass True Crime Report putting the true back in true
crime from New York City.
Speaker 7 (01:44):
ROBERTA.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Glass is now on the record. Okay, how is everybody? Hello?
(02:18):
Mary Ann Nizzo, Nice to see you, Chloe dark Side
me Ma Dragon. I wanted to talk with you guys
today about a little nugget that's in the Jeilhouse calls
between Charlie Adolson and his mother, Donna Aedelson, and he
(02:43):
talks about how it's not incriminating that he would call
people back on different phones like landline phones, et cetera,
that he wasn't worried about surveillance, but that he was warned,
so he was warned not to talk on the phone.
(03:07):
And I assume the reason that he was warned not
to talk on the phone to Katie, to anyone about
anything important on the phone, and therefore Donna, by proxy
was warned was that they were told that they were
being surveilled. So this is so the bump happened in April,
(03:32):
and so this happened in June. By Charlie's memory, makes
you wonder if it could have happened a lot earlier.
Of course, Pat Sanford from that FBI has testified that
he thinks that Charlie was very aware and warned to
(03:53):
not talk on the phone, just by the conversations. That's
his opinion. At God, I go over it, and then
who I think this person that Charlie identifies is. Now
he says, it's Mike, And I think, who could this
Mike be that warned him not to talk on the
phone during the bump. And I'll tell you who I
(04:15):
think it is. But let me first share with you
the audio and we can listen to it together.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Oh, I said, when we saw the child and we
heard that, we heard you that she was away. Everybody,
look at what just happened. There's a way in hell.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Happened.
Speaker 9 (04:48):
Oh no, amount it was my birthday party, my mom's
crazy email, my sister showing up, me calling her landline. Yeah,
I was pulling into Adam's garage and I was gonna
be getting an elevator. I get shitty sells or something
(05:10):
to call you from a different number, like I wanted
her to pick up and she didn't see it was
my number from my cell I know, I get bad
service in that building, Like I'm still calling her cell
phone number, not hiding, and I say, hey, Katie, give
me a different number to call you from, and I'm
gonna call you from a different number. That to me,
A want privacy, Like when I spoke to Erica, I
(05:32):
wanted privacy, and Mike had just told me two days earlier,
don't talk about anything, don't talk about Katie, you know,
don't talk to Katie, you know, don't talk to anybody
about the case. So I know, Eric, who was gonna say,
And it's like, I wanted privacy, So I said, I
don't call you from from your land line to your
(05:53):
cell phone. Yeah, well I wanted privacy there, But that
was the only time. It's just because I didn't know Eric,
was I saying an abundance of caution might appearing be
enough to talk about it to you with her. So
I want to privacy like good Erica eating I said, here,
I'll call you on yourself. I'm calling you from a
different number because I wasn't going to get service in
(06:14):
that building, so I knew. So I just wanted her
to pick up if you see coming in a few
minutes than.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
It was.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
He did. He just say that he switched cell phones
because he couldn't get cell service in a building. He
can't take his cell phone with him to another location.
Full of nonsense, nonsense, nothing being hidden. There's an admission
in the negative for you. Perfect example. So this is
(06:47):
Erica Johnson's testimony testimony. So she was a employee of
the Adelson Institute for eleven years. I skipped by, uh
skip pass. I edit out some of her testimony. But
where you know where we listened to this particular call
that Charlie Adelson said he was talking to Erica where
he had been worn two days before by Mike not
(07:10):
to talk on the on the phone. So let's get
into it.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Just raise your right hand man, do you swear or
form the testimony?
Speaker 8 (07:21):
You're about to give We'll get the truth.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
You may take your seat. Please speak wait.
Speaker 8 (07:26):
Clearly, good morning. Will you introduce yourself and spell your
name for the Core reporter.
Speaker 5 (07:34):
Please, Erica Johnson, E R I, KA j O E
J and I Sewing.
Speaker 8 (07:40):
And did you work at the Adelson Institute for a
number of years?
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Yes? For about how long? About eleven years?
Speaker 6 (07:47):
And were you employed there from twenty thirteen to twenty
sixteen during those years?
Speaker 5 (07:52):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (07:52):
And what was your job there at that time?
Speaker 5 (07:55):
Front desk?
Speaker 10 (07:56):
Ka?
Speaker 6 (07:56):
Were you also kind of worked as an assistant to
Charlie Adelson and the front desk?
Speaker 5 (08:00):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (08:02):
What were your tasks at the front desk?
Speaker 5 (08:05):
Make an appointments, collecting pain pays? All right?
Speaker 8 (08:10):
Were you the primary person who did that for Radleson Institute?
Speaker 5 (08:14):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (08:16):
Did Adelson Institute often deal in cash for their services?
Speaker 8 (08:20):
Sometimes would sometimes they offer cash discounts for their for
their dental work.
Speaker 5 (08:25):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (08:29):
Back during the time period of twenty thirteen to twenty sixteen,
did Clarisa Labreda, Harvey Adolson, Charlie Adelson, Don and Ingelson
and Amy the hygienist for those of the other employees
of Adelson Institute besides yourself.
Speaker 10 (08:44):
Yes with god hey back at the pier active or a
record for Kimmed.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
For what.
Speaker 9 (09:00):
Guess?
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Guess she works here? I would I wouldn't give anything. Yeah,
and then I don't know the the ex did she
worked out? Like, yes, she worked there, but I don't
know what you want?
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Yeah, give me a favorite. I'm not there right now,
mum huh. And I'm in surgery mum hum. But it's
not my office. It's my dad's office, so I can't
(09:42):
give anything out right, So I mean you're I.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Don't have access to it. I don't know where anything is, Okay,
So you don't have you don't have access to anything,
so I don't know anything. Yeah, So I would do this.
I would not. I would not speak to anybody. Mm hmmm.
(10:06):
I mean you could. I mean you can do whatever
you want, but I don't. It's my dad's office.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
Yeah, so I don't have access to anny of that stuff.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
So you can talk to my dad and I'm sure
they'll be able to get whatever they want from.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Them, Okay, understandably.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
So if I if I had it, I mean, you
could talk to whoever you want. I shouldn't say'llnock anybody.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
No, you know what I mean. No, I mean I'm not.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
I shouldn't say I don't talk anyway. Talk to whoever
on the planet you want to talk to. But it's
not my office, and it's not your office, right, So
you don't have records give them, and I don't have
records to give them. So so I'm sure they'll be
able to up them out in any way any way
(11:09):
they can.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Okay, So that's about that one.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Tell them that, Yeah, tell them that it's not I mean,
it's not my office. Office is sold back to my
dad actually a long time ago. So tell them that
you will. So it's actually you're talking to the wrong
doctor ails right, right, right, So what you need to
do is tell them that you will get in contact
to tell him.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Uh, I mean, it's not your office.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
You can't they stay within twenty days of the quarter
quarter statues provide above cars.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Uh they are they there in that hour? Do? They
can stand there?
Speaker 3 (11:44):
There?
Speaker 1 (11:44):
But the back I'm in the back. They're just waiting
for me to come back. Oh and they want records, Yeah,
give me give me a favor. I'm gonna call you
from a land line on yourself. Okay. Okay, we heard.
Speaker 6 (12:06):
You say at the beginning of the call, you were
referencing Katie. When you said Katie, were you talking about
Katherine mcvanla Yes, And how did you know Catherine Mcbanwah, she.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
Was a patient at the office and his girlfriend.
Speaker 6 (12:19):
Okay, a patient at Adelson Institute and Charlie Aedelson's girlfriend.
Speaker 5 (12:23):
Yes.
Speaker 8 (12:24):
Had you ever seen Catherine mcmanimal work at Aylson Institute?
Speaker 5 (12:28):
No?
Speaker 8 (12:29):
Did Adelson Institute have a cleaning service that came?
Speaker 5 (12:33):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (12:35):
And was it a husband and wife team that cleaned
the office?
Speaker 5 (12:39):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (12:40):
And was Catherine mcvanwel part of that husband and wife team?
Speaker 3 (12:44):
No?
Speaker 8 (12:46):
Were you on yearly salary or paid by the hour
at Aedlsen Institute? And would you get paid every two weeks?
Speaker 5 (12:53):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (12:55):
At that So she gives some more testimony. That's just
damning for Charlie Aedelson, but you can see that clearly
there was nothing nefarious going on. He just couldn't get
good reception. He was calling back from a landline. But
(13:16):
Mike did tell him not to talk two weeks two
days before that. So who is this Mike? I'll tell
you who I think it is. I had to guess,
and of course I'm guessing I'm not in with the
Adolson family without knowing Charlie Aedelson personally, and I'm not
(13:38):
gonna be uh communicating with killers, not on this not
this person, not this channel. He got the wrong channel.
You think I'm going to be writing to killers, convicted
killers in prison? Got the wrong person. So without knowing
(13:59):
for sure, my guess is that he's talking about Michael Weinstein.
And who Michael Weinstein is. Let me show you he
has been a zealous advocate. He denies being a zealous advocate,
but he's really been a zealous advocate for the Adolson family.
(14:22):
His father, Peter Weinstein is was a Florida judge. Let
me just show you him first.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
Here we go.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
So there he is. He has his own Wikipedia page.
He was a member of the Florida Senate. So this
is Michael Weinstein's father, Wendy Aedelson's godfather. And he was
born and raised in New York City. He's a graduate
of New York University in Brooklyn Law, became a judge
(15:00):
and then became a did I just say state senator?
Speaker 7 (15:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (15:10):
State senator from nineteen eighty two for add fourteen years
onto that. So what is that ninety ninety six and
(15:32):
he served as a majority leader of the Florida State
Senator and his son share His son, Michael Weinstein, was
in He ran for who was a house camp the
(15:56):
Florida House. It was a represent for the Florida House
for District eighty one. So an HD eighty one candidate
with deep ties to family suspected of murdering Dan Markel.
So this is written by Peter Scorch, who's done so
(16:17):
much good reporting on the murder of Dan Markel. He writes,
a young father was killed and law enforcement knows how
and why. Michael Weinstein, a lifelong friend and sometimes lawyer
of Charlie Aedelson, suspected co conspirator in the murder of
Tallahassee law professor Dan Markel, announced last week that he
(16:40):
is running for HD eighty one, the seat vacated by
Reptina Polski moved to the State Senate. Weinstein is the
son of Peter Weinstein, a former chief judge and former
state senator who also happens to be the godfather to
Win Markel's ex wife. Weinstein has appeared on twenty twenty
(17:05):
and other TV programs defending the Adelson family, saying that
he was doing so not as their legal counsel, but
as a friend. He would later appear to be listed
as Charles Charles Lee Adelson's attorney in joint statements made
by his family denying their role in the twenty fourteen
(17:29):
murder of Marcel. So he was acting, at least publicly
as Charlie Adelson's attorney. Who would be trying to protect
you in that way? Your attorney? This is why, and
just his closeness with the Adelson family, and I think
he would have gotten word that maybe the FBI was
(17:51):
surveilling the family. He also represented Charlie Adelson in various
minor infractions, such as drive being ninety three miles an
hour in a forty five mile an hour zone. To
be fair, the Weinsteins aren't the only example of political
connectedness the Adelson family boasts. For example, Charlie Aedelson's lawyer
(18:16):
in an unrelated civil case is the sitting mayor of
Coral Springs, Scott Jonathan Brook. So Scott Jonathan Brook. Here
he is. Here's a picture of him, Mayor Scott. And
(18:39):
he also has an Instagram where you can see him
playing tennis and being the man about town. In Coral Springs.
Yeah so, and it's Scott J. Brook, attorney on on Instagram.
(19:03):
There back to this article to be okay to, for example,
Charlie Aedelson's lawyer in an unrelated civil case. Hold on
one second, I got to turn on the air conditioning.
I'm sorry about the noise, guys, but I'm dying here.
It is so hot in this room. I'm gonna die. Yeah,
(19:28):
I'm melting as I'm talking. Okay, given the strong Okay,
for example, Charlie Aedelson's lawyer in an unrelated civil cases
as sitting mayor of Coral Springs, Scott Jonathan Brooke, given
the strong case State Attorney Jack Campbell and his team
have presented. Surely these current and aspiring politicians are aware
(19:52):
of the strong evidence related to Charlie, Wendy and their parents,
but are willing to align themselves. Nonetheless, who else among
Florida's political and legal elite is connected to the Adelson
family praising of them or worse, protecting them. One curiosity
(20:13):
relates to the mystery Tallahassee judge that matriarch Donna Adelson
reference to Charlie Aedelson in a May twenty sixteen call
captured on a wiretap. She Wendy and the judge her
boss are talking. He had some stuff to tell her
(20:37):
yesterday because evidently he knows the judge in Tallahassee, and
he was giving her some information from that, and they
think that she means the murder case. He's been very
nice to her. There are multiple appointed South Florida judges
(20:57):
who appear to remain friendly with a family. Maybe they
don't know what happened, maybe they're not guilty by association,
but you know who definitely knows, Michael Weinstein. Weinstein communicated
with Jim Lewis, the then attorney for convicted hitman sik
(21:18):
Fredo Garcia, just after Garcia's arrest. Specifically, Weinstein assured Garcia's
lawyer that neither Charlie Adolson nor anyone in the Aedolson
family would be cooperating with law enforcement. From there Garcia,
Garcia's attorney is captured on surveillance audio providing this information
(21:44):
to accuse conspirator Catherine mcbanoa, who in turn has declined
to cooperate with investigators. So this was written June twenty twenty. Okay,
(22:09):
a young father was killed and law enforcement knows how
and why are elected leaders, including those aspiring to be elected,
should rally behind these officers to bring justice. Innocent until
proven guilty is a tenant of law, but does not
require the elimination of good judgment or the intentional miscarriage
(22:31):
of justice. Either. Only a person who feels multiple powerful
connections protects their family can impede the investigation of her
ex husband's murder till fragrant lies on the stand and
they say, with smug confidence, the state isn't going to
(22:52):
arrest me. So they're talking. He's talking about Wendy Edelson there,
that she feels multiple powerful connections protect their family and
that those connections will impede the investigation of her ex
husband murder, and that allows her to tell fragrant lies
(23:13):
on the stand and then say, with smug confidence, the
state isn't going to arrest me. The state isn't going
to arrest me. Silly, She kind of says it like that.
The election of Michael Weinstein would no doubt bolster this
type of confidence. It could further obstruct the future progress
(23:34):
of a bill Senator Jeff Brandy's filed last year to
create access to family courts, a second for families like
the Marquelles who got cut off from visitation with children
after a parent's murder, and perhaps, and perhaps even worse,
(23:57):
it could erode the type of confidence that voters in
HD eighty one deserve in the judgment of the person
representing them. The Marquelle case will likely bring additional arrests
in the coming months, maybe even before the August primary
(24:20):
or November election. Perhaps voters in this district should watch
carefully until then. Update. Weinstein has responded to Florida Politics
Analysis with the following statement. So this is a statement
from Michael Weinstein. It's so arrogant, it's so like Charlie
Aedelson himself. But this is Michael Aedelson. As you know,
(24:44):
I was never contacted regarding your article. If I had been,
I would have cooperated fully to the extent the attorney
client privilege would have allowed me. At all times material
I was and remained governed by that privilege. Having said that,
here is my statement. On May twenty ninth, twenty twenty,
(25:05):
an opinion piece was published in Florida Politics dot Com
which misconstrues my involvement in a criminal case, as it
does not accurately take into account my duties as a lawyer.
I was never contacted about this article, and if I
had been, I would have cooperated. I am proud to
be a candidate for Florida House District eighty one. As
(25:29):
for my background, I am a Florida assistant I am
a former Florida Assistant State's Attorney. I sat on the
Florida Bar Criminal Procedures Rules Committee and have served on
a professionalism committee. I am av rated by Martindale Hubbell
(25:53):
lawyers who have earned this display. I this display high
ethical standards. Most importantly, I am Florida Bar Board certified
in Criminal Trial law. Board certification recognizes attorneys professionalism and ethics.
(26:13):
As an attorney, I in all times have a legal
duty to protect the client, and that's what I think
he was doing. But I do think he had gotten
word that they were being surveilled by the FBI. At
no point in time did I sign myself with a position.
As stated in the article, I advocated for a client.
(26:37):
Quite simply, I did my job. Therefore, I want to
offer some clarifying statements about my professional involvement in this matter.
I was a friend since childhood of the Aedelson family,
well before mister Markel's death. Well, it wasn't a death,
(27:00):
was a murder. Let's just call it what it is,
Michael Weinstein. Charlie Aedolson hired me to provide legal advice
for his personal and business matters. Charlie Aedelson then contacted
me during the initial investigative stages of the case reference
(27:20):
in your article. He had not been charged with a
crime and was seeking my counsel. The article unfairly portrays
me aligning myself with someone suspected of murder. In truth,
I timely came to the aid of a current client
and acted as a zealous advocate for that client because
(27:42):
of the aforementioned relationship since childhood. I recommended that Charlie
get another attorney to guide him, and continued my role
as a counsel counselor at law until another attorney was
retained and a transition could be made. Up until that time,
I offer general guidance and handle media inquiries because of
(28:05):
our professional relationship and my role as his personal attorney
at all times, whether speaking to the media, counseling the client,
or speaking with other lawyers, the attorney client privilege was
in effect in that regard. The article creates an illusion
(28:26):
that I am withholding what happened in this case. This
is categorically untrue. It is required for an attorney to
speak with witnesses and attorneys to gather information during my
role in the case. I am always and forever governed
by the attorney client privilege. How many times is going
(28:46):
to say attorney client privilege, I am also guided by Okay,
ethical obligations as a lawyer. Many times he's going to
say lawyer and attorney client privilege. I think he doubts
as too much. The article should have advised the reader,
I have a duty to the Okay, maybe to the
(29:08):
I think the article should have It's so repetitive that
I think I'm reading the same thing over again, but
it's a new sentence. The article should have advised the reader,
I have a duty to the client and am governed
by the attorney client privilege. Lastly, the article fails to
advise that Charlie Aedelson did what I asked and shortly
(29:29):
into the investigation hired David O. Marcus Esquire as his counsel.
I stayed on briefly during the turnover, and then relieve
myself of any further legal obb obligation and cut ties
with the family. I thought they were talking also about
(29:53):
I doubt that he's cut ties with the family, if
I'm not mistaken. They talk about a Michael in these
jailhouse calls, calling Charlie and saying he thought he was
doing so well on the stand and etc.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Etc.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
That's my memory. I may be wrong. As a licensed
member of the Florida Bar for over twenty one years,
I value my professionalism and integrity and upheld my oath
as an attorney. Oh so repetitive. This case shows my
ability to take on the toughest issues which will serve
the residents of District eighty one as state representative wealth
(30:32):
My ethics, integrity, and professionalism are important as a husband, father,
and attorney. I come from a family of public servants
who have served in Tallahassee and locally, and I believe
the voters will see that I have the best experience
to be an effective legislator to serve District eighty one,
(30:54):
Palm Beach County and Florida is also about that. So
that was from June, and then he was embroiled in
another controversy. You see what he looks like up there.
(31:17):
I hope so let me see what's everybody doing. Everybody's
still with me. He didn't fall asleep with all that repetitive,
repetitive whining. Okay, so canadate Michael Weinstein. So there he
(31:43):
was embroiled in another scandal. Halfway through his primary campaign
for HD eighty one, attorney Michael Weinstein joined a case
that has lawyers scrambling to defend themselves for deeds far
worse than the accusations their client's face. Seattle SEAHAWKX cornerback
Quinton Dunbar and New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker were
(32:08):
accused of armed robbery. Weinstein joined their defense two weeks
ago as co counsel with Rep. Michael Greco, But then,
in an archetypical archetypal twist of South Florida legal corruption,
(32:31):
the four witnesses recanted their sworn statements in exchange for
a fifty five thousand dollars payout they say was organized
by Greco, with video evidence and more to support this accusation.
No matter how you cut it, the choice to join
this case reflects some poor georgemen on Weinstein's part. Either
(32:54):
Weinstein knew he was joining a case where his co
council Greco or Greca had bribed witnesses to assure their silence,
or Weinstein should have known. After all, he chose to
align with Greco, who had been publicly named in multiple
bar complaints, ethics investigations and scandals raging from campaign finance violations, cronyism,
(33:21):
to help friends avoid prosecution and corruption. For his part,
Weinstein states, I was retained before there was any allegations
against any other lawyer. Moreover, the incidents that caused further
investigation occurred before my involvement and without my knowledge whatsoever.
So that's a little bit of the background on well,
(33:46):
it also goes on. I mean, Weinstein has lied to
the public about the origins of his grassroots fundraising, fabricated
lies about his political opponents, misrepresented facts, and campaign mailer,
and has yet to answer for any of it. They say,
you can tell a lot about a person by the
company they keep. Weinstein and Greco have more in common
(34:10):
than this one particular client. While Greco was reprimanded for
his deeds, Weinstein has yet to face any consequences or
express were worse about the constructive role he played in
securing freedom for his groomsman. Okay, so he was a groomsman.
Charlie Edelson was a groomsman at his wedding. Who authorities
(34:33):
say hired hitman in the gruesome murder for hire of
young father Dan markel So and then they include his
statement from before. It's kind of an epic dig at
the end. An additional response from Weinstein. Oh maybe this
(34:54):
is a new one. I've been a license attorney in
the state of Florida for twenty two years. The last
one those years I've earned the distinction of Florida Barboard certification,
Certified criminal trial Attorney. I'm held to Yeah, this is
the highest degree of ethics, ethics.
Speaker 10 (35:11):
That you know.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
You can get an idea that he's not too ethical
the fact that he has to say ethics every two minutes.
No is godfather Maxima Peter is his godfather.
Speaker 7 (35:34):
No.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
Uh, doesn't Hana have blue eyes too? Am I wrong
on that? Doesn't Dona have blue eyes as well?
Speaker 1 (35:50):
Well?
Speaker 3 (35:51):
No?
Speaker 4 (35:51):
One second to me, let me get to my Let
mean look at or are they brown? Can we make
her brown eyes blue?
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (36:03):
No, they are brown? Huh that is weird that his
eyes are blue and Charlie has blue eyes too, doesn't
he probably? Yeah, brown, everybody's going, you're wrong brown. I'm
(36:24):
obviously not paying attention. She's wearing light blue.
Speaker 7 (36:29):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
Well, Wendy wears contacts too, right, but aren't they are?
They are blue? Really, She's not just wearing blue contacts
over brown eyes. Do we know what's on her? I
know there's that point in her interrogation where they talk
about her eyes and that he goes contacts Charlie either
(37:00):
Charlie Nope, Charlie either odd odd odd, So hard to
know what her natural color is. Yeah, she's very proud
of her blue context. Oh she wears blue on blue
so she can be mesmerizing. Thanks Piper. Okay, so I'm
(37:24):
gonna take a just a quick one for today. I'm
just gonna take a break. But now bother I'm just
gonna And it went really long. I went like three
in that three hours, almost three and a half hours
last night, and I'm still getting over whatever this is.
So I'm just gonna keep it brief and finish up
(37:48):
the way I usually finish up these episodes with an
impact letter. And this is from Katherine mcmanawa's trial. Let
(38:09):
me see if I can make it a little bit
bigger for you guys, Dear Honorable Judge Wheeler. My relationship
with Danny evolved from a friendship with his sister, Shelley,
during the time that Shelley and I were law students
at osgood Hall Law School in Toronto, Canada in the
mid nineteen nineties. Shelley went on to marry a childhood
(38:31):
friend of mine, Ian Friedman, and through that union I
became acquainted with other members of the Markelle family, Bill
and Ruth and Danny. Although my primary connection to Danny
was via his sister, over the years I developed an
independent relationship with him. We would often discuss current affairs, politics,
(38:58):
law judy in Israel. I value deeply these intellectual journeys
and my thinking was enriched by them. Once I moved
to Israel in two thousand, my interactions with Danny became
less frequent. Nonetheless, we always found time to meet up
(39:20):
during his periodic visits when he often came to teach
or lecture at one of the law schools here. I
also had the good fortune of hosting Danny on several
occasions in our home in Jerusalem for Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath.
(39:40):
Danny loved. Excuse me. Danny loved the tranquility and spirituality
of this day of rest, and we would discuss divers
issues and singing traditional Jewish songs around the dinner table.
During one of his last visits to Israel before his murder,
(40:02):
he taught me and my family a beautiful melody to
one of those songs. We sing that song to this
day and we think of Danny each time. During one
of his visits, he told us of the pain he
was living through in the wake of his divorce from Wendy.
He also shared his anxiety about the future and how
(40:25):
the divorce would impact his boys, who he loved more
deeply than anything. During another subsequent visit, he told us
of a new love, of the love he had found
with someone else, and the hope he had for a
brighter future. I learned of Danny's murder late one afternoon
(40:47):
while working at my law office, when Danny's brother in law,
my friend Ian, called with the news. I still recall
the sickness that penetrates in my being and how I
spent the remainder of that day in a day's state
of shock in a Jerusalem park. It was inconceivable that
(41:12):
Danny was gone and that he was taken in such
a horrific manner. As the months and years passed, Danny's
absence was felt not only by me and my family,
who had gotten to know Danny during his visits to Jerusalem,
but it was clear that his absence as a brother
(41:32):
to Shelley, a son to Phil and Ruth, and the
only brother in law to Ian was deeply painful. Perhaps
even more cruel was that Phil and Ruth, Shelley, and Ian,
and their children were prevented from having any interaction with
their grandchildren, nephews and cousins Danny's sons. This ongoing pain
(42:02):
was often communicated during conversations I had with the Markelle family,
which also focused on an ambiding belief that justice would
one day be done. In this case, nothing can bring
Danny back to us. Danny was a unique individual. He
(42:23):
was a person who loved, who lived life, loved and
felt deeply, and radiated passion. He had a light and
a presence that shone brightly in the world. He had
a penetrating intellect and cared deeply about making the world
a better place, about justice in America and about the
(42:46):
well being of the Jewish people. He was taken at
his prime. It is impossible to know the ultimate contribution
he may have made to his community, country, into the world,
had his light been permitted to continue spreading. In the
(43:07):
Jewish tradition, our ancient sages taught that whoever saves a
single life is considered to have saved the world, and
that whoever destroys a single life is considered to have
destroyed the world. Danny's world was destroyed and our world
(43:29):
was dimmed when his light was extinguished. For the countless
people all over the world who knew and loved Danny,
always in hope for now is that justice will be served. Yours, sincerely,
Daniel Greed. That is what I have for today. Guys,
